011the board a completed speaker card prior to the start of the Open Session portion of the meeting we do have uh one speaker be letia Samos come on up good evening board members community members staff my name is Leia Maldonado Stamos and I just have a couple of comments to make about the resolution that you all are are addressing today um when I first moved here to Fallbrook almost 30 years ago the realtor took us to Rolling Hills and champagne Crest and all of these little enclaves around F Brook and they were all very beautiful and I I we like them um we stayed overnight in Tula and came back the next day and I told the realtor I want to see all of Fallbrook now because I had not SE I I didn't know
012anything about F Brook so um so he did he took us everywhere he took us into town he took us up to duus he took us all over and that's when I saw what F Brook was really like and the fact that um it was a community that I felt that I could grow and that my husband and I could call home um we decided on the spot that this is where we were going to live We Built our home and uh this is where we retired and this is where we want to end our days and I think that it's important what you all are doing because the people who made me feel welcome in F Brook were the Latino families they were the ones that opened their doors they were the ones that
013showed me around they were the ones that brought me to the first uh school board meeting and um and that was before I knew anything about the history of Fallbrook and I think that the the fact that we have so many Latinos here and that you all are recognizing them the way that they've never been recognized um we have Latino astronauts and scientists and artists and and all of those people have made wonderful accomplishments for our society but we have people right here in F Brook that have made the difference in the lives of children in the lives of adults and um and the fact that you're recognizing them is you know I commend you all for doing that um on behalf of their children the parents um the workers all of those folks that
014have kept F Brook going as a community um are being recognized by by you all tonight so I just want to commend you about that and I also want to say that the girls three of the girls were that were dancing tonight they were wearing skirts that about 20 years ago 15 moms here in F Brook put them together for students at live o I don't know if you remember that and I put together kits with rows and rows and rows of ribbon I put them in a bag and said sew them on to the bottom of these fabrics and uh they have them at Mayas they have them at Potter and again that's um that's a contribution that they felt they were making to this Latino community and they're not here today I took
015some pictures of I'm going to send it to them because they need to know that the hours that they spent sewing those ribbons onto those skirts are still being enjoyed today so I thank you very much and that's it for hearing session okay thank you okay we have a report from the base Leon oh it's good to see everyone I don't have a report tonight okay thank you sir all right so do we have any report from the board members Mrs line would you like to say um only that I was uh pleased to be part of our daylong program um that all board members were participating in on governance training it started at 9: in the morning and ended at 3 it was a very informative and productive program and it's part of I
016think what we do is continuing education to know how to be um even better school board M so thank you to the staff for putting it together for us appreciate it um no thank you all thanks to the parents the teachers for the great presentation that we had today so uh it's really beautiful to see the cultural wealth of our community shared uh and recognized in our district so thanks to everyone that helped put this together really U really moved by that I also want to thank fa stem uh for these beautiful flowers um we're actually in the process of uh preparing for the and so we're we were just in the week over the weekend talking about um producing flowers just like this so beautiful to see this this culture just flowering year after
017year as it does so that is glad to see all that happening there was a few things that happened since the last meeting there was a groundbreaking that took place for the new park that's going to go in on farrick Street uh it's on the crest right before the community center so folks might not be aware there's a 6.8 acre park multi-use park that's finally that we finally broke ground on um on my free time I'm on the CSA 81 committee which is our committee that represents uh Parks and Recreation for Sano County and we've had our eyes focus on a new park for the past 14 years and so this is a tremendous event for our community for this to be happening so the uh is expected to be built over the next year
018and a half so by 2025 we will have a new multiuse park in fber within the downtown district um I had a chance to participate in the third um Masters and governance session I think we focused on finance um and uh negotiations and whatnot so that's been a lot of fun two more left to go um looking forward to that um and I would just want to share a personal uh highlight on my daughter my seventh grader itel uh she's been um practicing she's part of a theater group for the uh Moonlight theater in Vista she's going to be part of performing in the uh Dr suso the musical I think that's what it's called musical I'm we're very proud of her um and as U the folks have had a chance to see you
019play at the Moonlight theater I mean it's it's the real deal they really it's a excellent production group there so just wanted to send a shout out to my daughter seventh grader at bter Junior thank you Mr Pella and uh as for me I will um also agree and come right behind Mr Pella to thank all all that were involved all the students that were involved in making our beautiful little paper flowers and um also for the presentation that we just had that was very very well done and very enjoyable it was enjoyable watching it more than dancing it but here I think it's been a while since I've moved that much but uh then on to um I also want to thank um the cabinet um members um mainly Mrs Hazel and U Mr
020Cain for the presentation for our workshop for governance and um the public was welcome and we did have on the first night we had part of the public uh some of the public come in and sit with us and get to ask questions and get to really be very involved as we did it in the conference Stone so it was very close um uh done in a in a very close uh uh space um I also W to um say um with Mr favella and and superintendent Miss hael we um I attended the third session um which was covering like he said finances for the the masters of governance and that was the most interesting yet of our sessions um so and that's about it for me thank you very much thank you thank you
021I just I love the videos that we have before um at the beginning of the presentations because it gives you all a window into what I see every day in our schools and our children um our teachers the work that we do every day uh is really pretty amazing and I love being able to highlight the beauty of our of our district and the various cultures that we have in our district so I wanted to just uh take a moment and um highlight I'm very excited to honor and uh celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month uh this month I want you to know that we take immense pride in the diverse backgrounds and experiences of our students and our families that they bring to this community um with a significant percentage and we have approximately 65% of
022our students and families that identify um as Hispanic we're reminded of the powerful impact that this culture has on our Collective identity as a district so this month we're going to take the opportunity to express the appreciation and recognition of the contributions of our students and our families and the staff that make our school district great um but I also want to highlight that this is just this is beyond one month right we need to celebrate and honor uh the cultures of all of our children throughout the year our children need to see themselves in the books that they read in the topics that we study and um and this is part of that and this is part of that work so the perspectives the traditions and the talents enrich Us in ways that we
023can't fully capture and I just want to share that I'm grateful for the continued Partnership of our of our community because uh together together we provide that educational experience for for everyone so I wanted to also share with you that we wanted to make sure that our libraries were rich with um with books that that represented our Hispanic culture and so we we donated $500 to every school so that they could they're working with their Library Tech and the students and the staff members to add some books to the libraries so hopefully when you go to the schools next you'll see those beautiful displays not only in the classrooms but also in the in the libraries as well uh I also want to give just a quick update related to our trustee vacancy process um
024as you know our uh president Stacy McCrae stepped down last month and um we had our two trustees trustee McBride and favella were elected at our special board meeting on September 26th to serve um on the application revie view subcommittee with myself and so uh this subcommittee is simply a screening to ensure that candidates live in area 4 that they're 18 years of age and that they haven't committed a crime that would prevent them from serving um and being on our school campuses so what's important for the public and for everybody to know is that all candidates who meet the minimum qualifications will be invited to a public interview on October 16th and we want everyone to know there's still more time to apply so if you haven't applied yet and you live in District
0254 we welcome you to fill out the application that's posted on our website there's still more time the deadline is this Friday October 6th at 4M and you can do that via email or in person so you can submit applications via email or in person uh and more information to come so at our next meeting on the 16th it'll be an in-person interview and I know that that's uh that's something that is uh doesn't happen a lot to have it in person so I we want to invite the public to come and join to participate either virtually or uh or in person the other thing that I'd like to share is that we have uh you know part of our profession as Educators is to constantly be Learners right we are a learning organization and
026we ensure that it's not just the kids that learn every day we have all of our staff learning we have our cafeteria staff going to conferences we have our psychologists doing learning we have I wanted to share that we had 11 fifth grade teachers at BizTown this Saturday continuing their learning so that our fifth grade students could be part of that wonderful financial literacy program um we also have playworks and playground supervisors our PE assistants and our TK assistants that are all engaged in training so I want to you know as we look at our agenda today every month I mean every board meeting we have a list of what are the trainings that our staff go to and so I just wanted to highlight some of them for you but it's one of our
027core values that we support all of our employees to progress in their um in their profession so uh that's it for my report tonight and uh and I look forward to the rest of our meeting okay so R numer three Administration board trustee Ricardo flla will be presenting resolution 06- 2324 recognizing Hispanic Heritage Month so I will read the resolution it's on our agenda so recognizing Hispanic heritage heritage whereas Faber has roots in Latin American history and the Latin American presence has been a part of fabr since 1769 the fa area was first settled by Native American Leno and three Mexican families including the alvos the Picos and the ampos whereas the fber Union Elementary School District is comprised of a diverse community of Learners among which 64% of our students identify as Hispanic or
