005and we'll begin with DJ Kemp right here I have come tonight to speak to you about transgenderism although it might not look like I'm a transgender person I am I've been all my life and started kindergarten when I went to a Catholic School went to kindergarten wanted to go into girls bathroom the great nun found me said no you can't go in there and she had me put my hands against the law and swatted me with a pointer stick the next day I come back I said I'm going in that bathroom that second time she hit me twice and she decided that I was not going to be defeated and she called my parents it was a 63 okay my dad my mother went crazy okay to say the least so what did I learn
006Ed you better not voice what you are because it ain't safe but I also learned that I was what I was and I was not going to stop being who I was so as I grew up it continued finally in high school I reapproached it with my parents it did not go over good and at 18 my dad put me on one of his job sites I was going up running bricks up a gangplank and his swarming dumped me on the fourth floor and I went through the center of the scaffolding grabbed the bar and survived I thought you know my dad's a tough guy I'm in Detroit it was a test so I go back down I get another load of bricks run them up a couple more days straight all of a sudden
007the third or fourth day later the former did the same thing I came back up the gangplanks this guy is going off the roof when I got there he drinks his DJ DJ calm down your dad wanted to make sure you were tough I said you mean your dad put my dad put you up to killing me are you injuring me he said well I'm not talking about it again so from that point on I knew I confronted my father and yes that was the case I stopped working for my father but the transgenderism never went away I tried all sorts of different things to avoid it to stop it I went to therapy back then they had electronic therapy the therapist told me here you can put your arms here feel this you get
008a little buzz of electricity but we'll strap you in and we'll give you this treatment that was dumb but anyways I got in the chair and he showed pictures of men dressed in women's clothing Zapped me with electricity at a heck of a lot higher charge than he demonstrated before I got in the chair it didn't cure me furthermore I then joined the United States Marine Corps and thought that will solve the problem well that didn't solve the problem either married my first wife caught her with the Navy chaplain and I became a drill instructor and I was meritoriously promoted to staff sergeant oh I've already used up three minutes sorry in any case what I wanted to tell you is from the other day is that there are many good people that are transgender
009people we're gonna have to stop you but thank you so thank you so much all right just one second there are many people are good transgender people and they can do a lot for you okay thank you next we have Russell Beckley ladies and gentlemen good afternoon um I just want to say sir I 100 agree with you right and this is America we just said the Pledge of Allegiance liberty and justice for all that's what America is about um I'm sorry you went through that as a trial truly I am a few things I want to talk about one is I was going through previous board meetings and I remember seeing one Dr McRae where you were going to be traveling to I believe Washington DC uh and I just we hadn't heard anything
010else about that so I'm hoping maybe when the board reports you kind of tell us you know how that went and what it did for the district um also I want to voice uh to Dr McRae Mr pavela and Miss London and I'm pretty disappointed with how you guys voted at the last board meeting I was really excited seeing that maybe you guys were actually do something for the parents and it was a half measure when we first met Dr McRae you said uh you were glad that I was here because my kids have my last name and the sentiment of that conversation was about parental rights um and now I'm just extremely confused because I feel like now only in certain circumstances will you you know understand that they do have my last name
011and then I do have a voice so I didn't like it very much so for the next uh minute and 40 seconds I'm going to tell you guys about why I pulled my kid out of super summer camp at San Andreas school um and I mean I love seeing these videos and it is absolutely great and I'm sure some kids had an awesome time uh my daughter came home and she started telling me how a few of the teachers and I sent this to you guys in an email but nobody responded a couple of the teachers were wearing safe adult pins and the top was the pride flag and then the bottom was the transgender flag right which I have a problem with for a lot of reasons right so for one not all the
012teachers were wearing them so what only those two teachers were safe for homosexual and trans kids to go talk to not the other teachers that weren't wearing the pen what about my heterosexual daughter those adults aren't safe for her to go talk to they didn't have an American flag like I just talked about liberty and justice for all safe adult it was specifically for gay and transgender kids which once again I feel is wholly inappropriate in a school which should be a professional environment right and if you guys are going to do one thing everybody should do it um so I pulled my daughter out and I sent you guys an email you didn't respond so I figured you guys didn't care and honestly at this point even if you did respond I probably would
013have felt that it was lip service as I've got before uh when I brought up some of the issues um which we still haven't talked about um Mrs Hazel so that's all I have thank you thank you next we have uh via Zoom Ellie via Zoom hello hello it's Eli yes we can hear you hello hello go ahead you're on you got three minutes hello everyone my name is Eli and I am a student at Center for me elementary school I am here to talk about Miss Ridley Mr Miss Ridley helped me when I was when my dad was gone with the deployment group it is never easy when he leaves it is she is very kind and helpful I also like a game room as another alternator for recess she is she really cares
014about all the students she brought all of the supplies for deployment group and they you and for for us students will lose access to special groups she holds thank you for your time that's all thank you very much thank you um so um that brings us to James James let's hope uh you can hear us we you're on to speak hello say hello hello yes we can hear you you have three sorry thank you all right hello everyone my name is James I was a former student that was possibly positively impacted by Ms Ridley as a new student there is a lot to take in she was the whole reason I got into student lighthouse in the first place I was able to hold the position of Vice President in Santa Ana Frey and I
015was abled to see Miss Ridley help and guide students host events and school at the school and work with beside her San Andreas will be losing if Miss Ridley's leaves as a school on a military base she provides support that isn't given elsewhere military kids need all the support they can get along with this the workload placed on one counselor would be too much for one person to handle please reconsider as she is valuable to the students at San on Frisco appreciate it and thank you for your time thank you very much and that concludes our speakers foreign okay that will bring us to the report from base liaison so I would like to introduce Dr Jeff Paul hello everyone it's good to see all of you I'm looking at your website and I see
016a countdown six days six hours and some minutes and some seconds and before I came to the meeting tonight I have a picture behind my desk of my three children at Mary Faye Pendleton now they're two in college and one in high school so it's been some time but I do remember this time is very exciting and the excitement was that they were going off to spend a year with some some really special people and so to the superintendent I'd say you know congratulations on getting prepared for all that and I'd like to wish you luck this year um and with that I have one uh update um Brigadier General Woodworth that's our Commanding General both at the base and for the region uh he's extended an invitation to the superintendent to attend an Educators
017luncheon and that's going to be sort of towards the end of August and I think you um accepted that invitation so looking forward to spending time with you with you there and also for the CG to express some of the same thanks I think for all that you do and all your staff do for the community at Camp Pendleton so list any questions for me that's my update for this evening thank you that will move us to reports from the board anybody like to start or we'll just go in order we'll I'll start okay then we'll go in order too perfect thank you okay I was able to attend um both days before The Invention Convention super summer camp and it was amazing the stuff that we saw the kids do they had bottle rockets
018that they made and the the week before we saw them putting this stuff into play putting it together they had um kids that did recipes for eating bugs recipes and they were ingenious with some of the stuff that they did um they also had the Lego robots and we watched they well we watched them and they tried to explain how to code it but it went over my head anyway and we um we got to see everything that they had put together in action and it was it was awesome it's a great program for the the kids during the summer time I mean it was and the teachers are awesome that are double doubling up on their teaching all summer and then into the regular school year so that was just that was my main
019thing I too had the chance to go to super summer camp at Fallbrook stem and The Invention Convention at Potter Junior High um I just was so amazed once again you know our staff really excels at making learning fun it's really not it doesn't come off as learning it just comes off as fun and you can see how much kids are getting to explore and learn um the Rockets were my favorite I thought you know if I had done that my rocket would have gone about that fine and uh and you know it's just to me it's one of the the most important things we do in our community there are so many kids who wouldn't have a place to go or things to do during the summer and we provide such a fun and
020enriching experience I'm just really grateful to everybody who has a role in making that happen um yeah it was pretty busy a couple of weeks since our last meeting I had an opportunity to attend uh the PTA meeting at Potter Junior High um I'm really glad um you know I was invited and got a chance to see new parents a lot of the incoming seventh grade parents uh joined the meeting there had the opportunity to learn about the many things that our pts are doing sometimes I don't think we realize how much work ptus are doing behind the scenes so um very much encourage parents to get involved at all your schools um uh one of the things that we they were working on was the upcoming registration um I'm glad to say that I
021recruited my wife to participate she was very happy to participate so sometimes you just need to ask folks right just give them that invitation and and we see that parents are you know if they're available they're willing to help out um I also attended The Invention Convention we visited fabric stem we visited um William Mitch Frazier but I wasn't able to visit libel but um got a chance to see how just like uh trustee Lindy uh mentioned how stem is is is very much a part of the program and seen all the awesome things that we're producing from um you know I saw like a marble maze type of really cool thing they did with straws um zip lines I mean it was really cool to see what they were doing and how much science
022goes into it uh so it was a great opportunity he also had a chance to attend The Invention Convention at Potter Junior High where my daughter was uh launched a rocket there um I was trying to record her as she launched it and it went up so high that I completely lost it but I mean it doesn't really really awesome to see that I was hoping to to jump in line there and launch one as well it looks like a lot of fun um and lastly I want to put a plug in for baseball and softball right now um and I know there's other other sports uh open right now but I know softball and baseball are uh registrations open um uh I think registration will be open till September um so I want to
023encourage parents uh you know there's Bonzo fabric Little League which plays right out here uh there's a public youth baseball which plays out by Engel then in public girls softball uh it is The Fall season they do not play at home they play neighboring cities but it's a good season to prepare for the spring season as well so just wanted to put that plug in for parents to go to get your kids involved yeah well everything's been covered pretty much with the uh I also get to to attend The Invention Convention at Pottery Junior High and saw the kids the boys the main thing with the boys was those robotics hitting each other and just bumping into each other that was like they were having a the greatest day um the Rockets were another big
024sell I think for the kids I also got to see um there was very interesting on the the first stop where the kids were doing um they had researched particular people that they were interested in and then had done a whole poster write-up and um the other thing was at one of the other classes there was a young little a little boy who was doing some artwork that as I walked by pulled me over he was very creative very artistic and with that the conversation went on and I and he brought out his math so the new math that he presented and showed all these boxes of the new method he has been learning at this point for three weeks um and so that was very interesting because I had not seen that new math
025before so um that's where I got what I got to see that day and that will bring us to the report for the superintendent so I'll turn over to Mrs Hazel thank you good evening everyone uh tonight is definitely a night full of welcomes I want to welcome again Dr Jeff Paul our Camp Pendleton basically is on I'm really glad to have you back here in person I know you've been following us virtually but we're really thankful to have you here in person so thank you for being here I want to welcome Armando farias and Leonard Rodriguez to the diocese in their new official positions here so welcome I'd like to also welcome our new District staff who joined our Fue SD family so we had our new staff orientation today for all of our
026new certificated teachers and I have to say that we really hire the best and the brightest and I really am so excited to have them working with our students in the classroom so it was a wonderful morning being able to greet all of the new staff and the new the new teachers that were here so July has been really busy you heard a lot about our Super Summer Camp our migrant education program our esy program I also want to give a shout out and just acknowledge the HR department and they have just been working very diligently over the weekend they've been doing job fairs at the schools so I've really appreciated the fact that we're not just putting an ad in the newspaper we're not just posting it online we're actually setting up shops at
027our schools trying to reach our community so we come to you we are customer service based and so I was really excited to hear about that they've been processing new hires like crazy so that we are ready to go on on the 14th in addition to as fast as our HR team is hiring the payroll team is is processing all of that work and so they've been putting in lots of extra hours getting our staff paid for the after school Ela low program and our District Maintenance and Facilities including our site custodians our schools are looking amazing and so while our children have been many of them off on vacation our staff has been so busy and hard working and I just wanted to take a moment to thank everybody for what they've been doing
028our teachers were in trainings all week we had an opportunity to see our teaching staff here they were here for Orton Gillingham reading training related to the science of reading putting that those new strategies into place and training our teachers uh they were here for our upper grade teachers for morphology the study of words our math team was here we had a new teacher training for the Leader in Me and we had our new staff orientation and our character strong conference so if you're trying to find parking here at the district office you could never find it this week because we were packed every day and I just really feel like that's a testament to our staff who is has whenever they have an opportunity to learn something new they take it so that they
029can bring it to our students so just really excited about that a quick shout out to our to principal Dr Gonzalez assistant principal Jessica Ramirez and Robert from Potter Junior High School we heard got a lot of feedback about your um back to school registration fair from our families and they really appreciated to see the staff out in full force meeting the new Administration welcoming our students sometimes transitioning to junior high is a little bit scary for some of our students and maybe more for our parents and so our staff just did an amazing job of ensuring that all of our new families felt that deep sense of welcome and belonging at our school and I just wanted to thank you for going the extra mile to make that special like uh like you had
030shared Mr Favela we had the PTSA there elac migrant Ed CNS transportation we had our dads group The Watchdogs the Boys and Girls Club and the Fallbrook Community Health Center we're all there to talk about their programs and their services so it was really just a great event that I wanted to highlight I know we heard a lot about our super summer camp and so I was there with the team in awe of all of the work that was happening I just want to share that I'm so proud to lead a district and um to be on a board that supports our Super Summer Camp there's a lot of districts around the county that we're not able to offer summer programs for students and so it's really something that's impressive every child who wanted to
031be at Super Summer Camp had that opportunity we had a place for children to go and it was a rigorous academic program in addition to just being really fun so I just wanted to appreciate that our board dedicates our funds to our families based on what our families based on what our families need we've got some meet and greets coming up on August 11th that we're really excited about at every School site our parents are invited to come to the school ahead of time before that first day so so that parents and children can meet their teacher before the first day of school to to make that personal connection so that they can see where their classroom is so they think so all the nerves are gone and all the excitement and the energy is
032there so be on the lookout for those meet and greet events and we're ready for August 14th and an amazing year so that's it for my update yeah thanks all right that brings us to action out of state travel n-a-f-i-s fall conference it is recommended the governing board approve all expenses be paid for Mrs Monica Hazel and Mrs Cindy Martin to attend the nafis fall 2023 conference in Washington DC September 17th through the 19th 2023. do I have a motion to approve I still move thank you second my second thank you any discussion thank you for representing us out there sounds like it's going to be a very important conference yeah I'll call for the vote Mrs Mr ball aye Ms McBride sorry we were just challenging us yeah Miss London uh thank you Mr
033Favela all right and miss me I should say number three Miss McBride as well thank you okay that brings us to social worker and school counselor presentation so I will turn that over to Mrs Hazel and Mr Rodriguez thank you very much I'm excited to introduce Mr Rodriguez and his team for our social worker and school counselor presentation this is our goal our lcap goal 2 related to climate and gold three related to parent engagement and we're excited to share with you all that our students benefit from here in Fallbrook I'll have to be a public hearing speakers um that item number four number four we do have comment one in person and one via Zoom and in person we have Sarah McGinnis okay good evening and thank you for allowing me to speak I
034am Sarah and I would like to talk on behalf of the counseling services at San Andreas um this will be one of my children's fourth year there as my other child is on barking in his new journey into High School I really want to start out by saying that the teachers and counselors have been absolutely amazing to my children I have formed great relationships at the school and can honestly say that I feel more than comfortable reaching out to any one of them at any given time for any reason having lived in many places I am satisfied with the education and the support that my children receive we are a military family with my husband I'm about to retire next year in that time he has done seven deployments my children have at times only
035had me with no local family support knowing my capabilities and the fact that I am not a professional however a huge advocate for mental health I had needed to lean on the support staff I absolutely could not have done it without them the past few years my child has known when she's extra worried about friendships life changes and school challenges that she is at a safe spot to go to at school she has developed some tools to help cope with all of the changes that life can throw our way and she willingly points the way to go to the counselor's office to other children that she sees struggling especially of those who have had friends move away because the cycle of students coming going is rapid considering the community I'm sure you can imagine the
036heartbreaks additionally my child was able to take part in the lighthouse leadership team that was led by the teachers and counselors there she developed so much more confidence and Leadership skills she was able to make more friends and to find her voice so much so that she spoke multiple times in front of parents in the entire School the core values that it instilled in her was impressionable and helped develop the positive image she has for herself now she holds her head high and advocates for other children the positive impact it had on her was priceless and immeasurable I am grateful for the team at Sano I am grateful for the opportunities my kids were given I am grateful because I know that it takes a village and Sano is a part of that with the
037continuation of these Services I am confident that the counselors and social workers are a valuable investment for the mental and emotional well-being of other children like my own the services that are provided are much needed and are able to benefit our community as a whole thank you thank you very much and on Zoom we have Alana Gray hi can you hear me yes we can hi uh Lana gray thank you for offering a zoom option and I am here to speak on behalf of the counseling services at San onofre um in general social and emotional learning in classrooms is imperative no matter whether it's a military school or district-wide given the last few years with covid um other stressors family stressors our children have big emotions their brains are still developing the counseling team offers
038a safe space for students to go that is confidential maybe at home it's not so great for them and they know that they can go to school and find somebody other than their teacher to support them um and what's in the best interest of the student it's also a great resource for our teachers and for the parents to help take some of the stress off of them so that they continue to show them academic support um in other ways it also improves our academic achievement individually and as well as class performance and our social workers our counselors Miss Ridley Miss Finkel are professionally trained in their problem solving and providing safe Solutions in guiding families with resources and networking especially to new teachers um and just on the military side as one of our parents
039just stated the amount of stressors that our military children go through on a daily basis is huge just like today my daughter's uh my daughter wanted to come home from camp at Boys and Girls Club because she missed her dad who went on TDY to Virginia today which brings me to my personal points my daughter has anxiety and ADHD and the counseling team is imperative and not only in treating that at school in their 504s but also in helping with diagnostic tools as well they gave Miss Georgie additional resources I've had Miss Ridley my daughter contacted her several times Ms Finkel has helped my son Mason and she's also been able to help his teacher Miss mcgurk point out that some of his tick behaviors in class were also prevalent and so because I saw
040Miss Finkel recognizing that I've been able to get a diagnosis for my son with Tourette syndrome and he this coming year will come into fourth grade with that diagnosis then we'll need additional services at school as well as we embark on his 504 Journey they also are building trust confidence they strengthen the relationships in school and at home their team addresses bullying as the other parents have mentioned the lighthouse team at San onofre has been huge for my children um I am so grateful so so so grateful to the team um and I would encourage not just for Sano but I would encourage the board to please reconsider um cutting any kind of support services and counseling and Social Work across the district um in the time that I've had in all public schooling uh
041the counseling team at every school that we've been to and my kids have been to stuff but thank you so much we appreciate your comments thank you that's it for that um agenda item thank you all right good evening members of the board president McRae superintendent Hazel my colleagues on cabinet Dr Paul welcome back it's nice to see you it's been a minute uh members of the audience uh good evening uh thank you for the opportunity um for us to present tonight um I'm bringing part of our student Support Services team uh to help me in my presentation um with me I have Mrs zaraida Hernandez our lead counselor Fallbrook STEM Academy we have Jessica minor our district social worker and a special presenter uh one of our parents from San onofre Mrs Jennifer Blankenship
042which is a deeply personal story to share with you uh about her family and the support that she's received from our social worker out there Mrs Reed who's joining us tonight as well thank you for being here Mrs Reed oh I've got the clicker thank you thank you all right so over the last year and a half our U.S Surgeon General uh released two very important advisories specifically addressing youth Mental Health and the importance of connectedness and creating conditions of isolation and belonging um back in December of 21 he said mental health challenges in children adolescents and young adults are real and widespread even before the pandemic and alarming number of young people struggled with feelings of helplessness depression and thoughts of suicide and rates have increased over the past decade and just in this
043last May in relation to school connected as he said given the profound consequences of loneliness and isolation coming out of pandemic we have an opportunity and obligation to make the same investments in addressing social connection that we have made in addressing tobacco use obesity and the addiction crisis of which we all address and he came up with these recommendations and he came up with recommendations for all of us as a community from family members and caregivers uh Healthcare organizations Healthcare professionals media organizations entertainment companies and journalists social media video gaming and other technology companies uh Community organizations employers federal state local and tribal governments and also Educators School staff and and school districts and so we came up with these um these eight points and I have check marks by there because I believe that
044in Fallbrook we are addressing all of those things and over the last probably three to five years and those of us that have been in um in the in the role of student services we've been working a long time at this and we have increasingly built our support staff and our support services for our kids and our families so one starting with creating a positive safe and affirming School environment and you'll hear that from us tonight you'll hear that and you've also heard that from our parents learning how to recognize signs of change in mental and physical health um including trauma Behavior changes right and so over this last summer we just started but we trained over 70 of our staff our teachers classified staff um in recognizing signs of trauma and how to not
045only recognize those but how to be that first line for our students to direct them some support providing a Continuum of support which we'll share about tonight supporting mental health and all School personnel promoting enrolling uh and retaining children in Medicaid chip or Marketplace and this is where our social workers Have Been instrumental um protect and prioritize students with higher needs we see that and you'll see when we talk about our tiered supports expanding our school-based mental health Workforce and that's what we've done and that's you've committed to as a board um and finally expanding our social and emotional learning programs and other based approaches and with that social those social skills character development we are working to support the whole child okay and in the bubbles you see our student population right about 5027
046but I know our clerks are busily entering in students so it's probably a little higher than that but those are some of our those are some of our um our significant subgroups you see where over 26 percent of our students are military connected not only are students on Camp Pendleton but we have students in all of our schools in town that are military connected about 32 percent of our students are English learners a little over 74 are those of those students are low socioeconomic and those students we know that um that are either low socioeconomic or children or poverty have their own additional um issues that that we are that we need to address we have a little over two percent homeless and Foster Youth and I will tell you that that is a very
047low number and that's probably an inaccurate number because we are working to identify those families um last year or before the 21-22 school year we were probably low 30s in a number of our homeless students but this this last year with the work of our attendance clerks with our teaching staff and with our social workers we've been identified um I think it's 102 students and provide services and support for those students related to Transportation basic needs and so forth and finally one of our growing numbers as well is in special ed 18.8 percent okay but we know supporting the whole child um we want to address um the academics and we know that students who report high self-management are 75 less likely to face failing rates when we could support them with that um with
048those social skills Behavior right students report low social awareness are two and a half times more likely to have one or more Behavior incidents and typically with behavior behavior is a language it's telling us that they need support they need help and if they if they are if they are challenged with behaviors in the classroom and the playground more than likely they are not able to benefit from the instruction that's going on in the classroom or the relationships that they uh could potentially be developing with their peers and classmates and finally attendance we know uh students students that are highly engaged are 57 percent less likely to be chronically absent right we talk about chronically absent those kids who have missed more than 10 percent of their school year and 10 is about a month
049okay and and and we have some numbers on that as well the rest of our presentation we're going to share the roles and responsibilities of our counselors and social workers um we have about um um I know one of our board members have asked what's the ratio between our counselors and our social workers it's about 500 students to one of our counselors and 500 students to one of our social workers um the American School Counselors Association and the school Social Work Association America actually recommends in schools to be um half of that about 250 students but I will tell you that we are in a great shape right now we are we are the Envy of many districts in the county for the support that we have um and we want to note that populations
050with higher need as we've demonstrated with our population benefit from those lower ratios so we'll talk about roles and responsibilities there we're going to talk about multi-tiered supports how we're supporting all of our students those students that need a little bit more support and those students that need more time more intensity in those interventions we're going to talk about how our social workers and counselors are going to support currently our district goals and and finally our priorities uh for this year and for the student uh Support Services Group okay and now I'd like to bring up Mrs Hernandez who's going to share about our counseling program good evening my name is Serena Hernandez and I am the school counselor at fabric STEM Academy and today I will be going over what do school counselors do
051for our students and for our families and how we collaborate with all of our staff including administrators teachers and support staff so the first thing that I want to share with you is that all of our counselors work under um the framework of providing a comprehensive School counseling program that is data driven and focuses on three domains that is the academic development College and Career awareness social and emotional development all of our services are aligned with the American school counselor Association and those um the the framework helps us to focus on the student mindsets and behaviors to support them across these three domains foreign my name is Jessica Miner and I'm the district social worker I'm so excited to be here with you tonight and report a little bit about what our team does and
052who we are and the goals that we have for our program when I first started a couple years ago it was just me I was the Lone social worker in the district trying to put out fires everywhere last year we added a team of three more social workers so there was four of us and I'm happy to report that this year because of the investment that you've allowed our department to make we are fully staffed with nine social workers meaning that each of our schools now has a social worker that exists solely at their school which is going to be instrumental for our kids so a little bit about what school social workers do well first and foremost we consult and collaborate with school Personnel students parents and Community Resources School Social Work acts as
053the link so you see up there there's a little diagram we link between the community the school the home environment and the child ensuring that if there's breakdown in any of the those areas that we help find resources that we coordinate programs and interventions to ensure that student needs are met so our primary role is to identify and assess needs and we do that through a wide array of approaches but we also advocate for students and their families again to make sure that they have what they need to be successful not only academically but as you know a well-rounded adult individual when they well they're not adults when they leave our district but you know that they're on their way to being those well-rounded adults so this is Abraham Maslow and he is an American
054psychologist and he created this theoretical framework of Maslow's hierarchy of needs which essentially states that um unless physiological needs are met so that would be like food water clean air that an individual cannot progress to the next the next step in this pyramid and what we have found is that many of our students are struggling in these bottom two pyramids they lack the resources that they need they lack food they lack housing they lack safety so when our team of social workers can come in and help connect them to those resources we then are essentially making the way for them to move into belongingness love self-esteem and ultimately ending in self-actualization which is just a really fancy way of saying thriving and what we have found is that that's where learning occurs that our kids
055cannot learn if they're wondering where their next meal is from or where they are going to sleep that night or what they might be exposed to when they go home and so if we can help meet those needs in the school environment and provide that safety that security and then have our counselors come in and build those positive self feelings on top of that then we've done our job in creating that Foundation where kids are going to be able to learn to retain information and achieve the academic success that we know they all can so one of the ways our team operates is in an mtss framework which stands for multi-tiered system of support so this is a comprehensive framework that again aims to support the whole child and in mtss it's determined that not
056every student benefits from the same level of support there are some Universal supports that all students would benefit from and we're going to go through each of these tiers and share examples of how we operate in each tier but mtss essentially says that as student need increases so should the Matched intervention so should the resources so not all of our kids are going to be operating in that higher tier those higher needs but each of our students benefits from a certain level of intervention support and resources okay now we will look at how the counseling program and the social workers collaborate and provide our families and our students supports across the multi-tier systems of support so like previously mentioned not all students will need um all the tier level supports we'll start with what is
057provided to all of our students what's the universal support that um the district has adopted as far as the areas of need for all students so um the first area we have is academic development a lot of the work that our counselors do at the middle school level um support this area as far as academic progress monitoring at the elementary level we're invited to parent-teacher conferences as needed a lot of our counselors also provide those minute meetings where they're meeting with all the students they're connecting with them providing that support to students to feel that they belong that they have someone to communicate with whether they're having challenges academically socially or with their peers during those minute meetings they're doing great checks goal setting um our counselors at the middle school level also support with
058building class schedules and getting them ready to be ready for high school and think about that College and Career awareness um they're discussing fourth to six year academic plans thinking about what courses to take honors advanced classes um classes that are based on their strengths um they teach GPA review so those are just some of the academic development supports that we provide as counselors um as we go through the different tiers counselors spend a lot of time at that tier one level where we are working with all students to promote that school connectedness belonging and positive climate activities for the career development we support our students with exploration of careers and their interests last year one of our major sorry was that me I think I click though there you go one of our major
059accomplishments last year was that there was we hosted counselors hosted a career date at every single School in our district um through this amazing event we invited families parents Community Partners and staff to provide that early awareness and connection to students to start thinking about their future career goals our school counselors also use strively a program that explores students trains and matches with potential career options some of our schools did college visits to San Diego State University and Cal State San Marcos where students were able to go into a classroom a lab and see what it how it feels to be on campus and to know that one day they can be there and connect with that career exploration especially if they are first generation first in their family to go to university we want
060to make sure early on we are providing these Career Development and for our elementary sites we've had career presenters as early as TK all the way through sixth grade so all of our students TK through eight receive this opportunity um tier one is going to be a lot of information because this is where most of our time is spent and we want to provide our students with all these supports um the next part we'll go into is the social emotional development as the district we are um we adopted the character strong classroom lessons um each month our counselors with our teachers teach a specific character trait there are nine character traits from TK through fifth grade um some of the lessons or the character traits are perseverance responsibility so we're having students explore goal setting
061time management or responsibility so they are building upon these skills um at the school our counselors go into our elementary counselors going to each classroom every other week so when we are not in the classrooms with our students the teacher are teaching that lesson for that week so we have rotations where our students are getting um these character traits and learning about them are six through eight character strong curriculum focuses on the outcomes of well-being belonging and engagement some other activities that we listed on here are lunch activities promote student connectedness leadership habits a lot of our parents have talked about light Health our counselors are key and not where we work with our students and hear the voice to develop school events activities and to just build upon what they would like to see
062more of that student voice and help the students feel connected we've facilitate student committees some schools have student Lighthouse peace Patrol kindness crew and then also that we counselors participate in school committees all right so just to highlight some of the work that we accomplished last year with our lessons like I said we have rotations as counselors all students see us in the classrooms we had over 3 000 these seven lessons for character strong and then our counselors facilitated 319 student committees and then we will go ahead and go to some of the other initiatives that our school counselors support um under our district um uh program so our counselors are participating in activities to support positive School climate school connectedness and academic achievement um with the Leader in Me program restorative practices morning circles
063great kindness Challenge and that important piece of parent education 40 parent-education opportunities for last year okay so here are just some examples to um illustrate what we have done has the school-wide tier one level um kindness activities during lunch lunch activities where students maybe have earned and are working towards different goals we celebrate them and then there's a picture of our counselor um the where we highlight going into every other week in lessons um and then here are some other examples of College and Career activities um we've connected with the California Highway Patrol Fallbrook High School visited summer Elementary um schools so the high school seniors came to their elementary school and they walked down the hallway and our students had the opportunity to ask high school students questions about their future goals their experience
064and advice for elementary for middle school and high school so that was a really great event and then there's the visit to San Diego State and other Community Partners like military attending I think all of our career days we definitely reached out to our military and other partners so there's a lot of information in tier one it's going to get a little narrower and more pointed as we go into tiers two and three so tier two we're at this point we're actively using data to identify student needs to identify students that are maybe having more extreme behaviors or struggles so that we can connect them with the programs and resources they need so some of the data sources we use are attendance we know that when students are in school that tells us something and
065when they're out of school that tells us something as well we conduct um a student well-being survey three times a year we do receive parent consent for participation in this survey as we also do for if we call it chicks it's the California healthy kids survey we get a lot of fantastic data from this and we'll be sharing some of that with you we know behavioral referrals show data as do grades and citizenship on campus so in tier two this is also where our small group counseling occurs so this would be students that maybe we are struggling academically with their study skills or maybe social emotional or character development and those are some of the groups that our school counselors are going to be delivering we do require parent consent for participation in any of
066our groups and then our social workers are the ones that are really going to be delivering those mental health groups so those are going to be our kids who have parents that are getting ready to leave on deployment um as Mr Rodriguez mentioned we have our two schools on base which obviously are highly military population but we also have military kids at every single um School in our in our district all of our in-town schools as well and we have found that when things are happening in the military or people are getting ready to deploy we see an increase in student needs student Behavior requests to be meeting with the counselor because they're struggling and creating this group can create a safe space for them to get together to process what they're experiencing um additional
067examples of groups are resilience grief and loss students who are struggling with parental divorce or separation and then feelings of anxiousness depression things like that this last year we had um 854 skill group sessions so that would be our learning strategies our study skills and our social emotional and character development groups and we had 186 Mental Health Group sessions at our schools we also support students in creating and supporting academic plans and so while some of that happens at the tier one level it also happens a little bit more um intensely at the tier two levels for our students that are struggling with their grades struggling with their study habits we support through academic plans check-ins and checks checkouts to make sure that they're staying on task and then also our team both our counselors
068and our social workers participate in student family and teacher meetings so sometimes this looks like conferences our student survey team so when a kid is struggling but we're not exactly sure what's going on or the right support we'll hold an SST and then we support with 504 plans and our School attendance review teams as well we attended and participated in 538 family meetings over the last Academic Year so then we move into tier three and this is where if mtss is operating properly this should be the highest level of investment in our for our team but with the smallest percentage of students so this is going to be our students who are struggling with chronic absenteeism and one way that we support is through attending home visits doing case management so trying to figure out
069with the family what's the barrier to attendance is it transportation is it school aversion is it mental health is it that um you know a parent just is getting back into the workforce and is using their student as um child care which we've seen several times as well like so we work with the family to figure out how to get kids back into classrooms we work with parents and Guardians and caregivers to understand the importance of kids being in class and then we also have tiered re-engagement strategies and so this is ways that we are actively engaging with the student at each level and with each staff member to ensure that they know that their presence is missed when they're not on campus that when they're not in their seat that their teacher notices that
070the attendance clerk notices that the counselor notices that all of these people care deeply about them and we want them here so over the last school year between 21 and 22 and 22 and 23 we experienced an 11 decrease in chronic absenteeism and while I think this number is definitely something to celebrate there's still a lot of work to be done in this area and Mrs Hazel has given us the task as the district to decrease our numbers of chronic absenteeism by an additional 10 so we have this goal that we're going to be working on this year collaborating with not only our social workers and counselors but our attendance clerks Our Community Partners and making sure that kids are in class we also work with outside Community providers such as mental health services Community
071agencies and partners I've listed a ton there some are local to fall Brooks some are on base and solely serve our military population but it's very important to our team and ultimately benefits our students when we're connected with the community because when we have a family that comes to us and says we're struggling with food insecurity we have a team of social workers and counselors who know I know just who to call let's get you connected to the Fallbrook food pantry we just took all our social workers to the Fallbrook food pantry they learned how families qualify and how they access and without services and relationships like this then our family needs are going unmet foreign in addition to some of these Mental Health Services we offer on campus that we talked about we provided
072287 outside mental health referrals and that's so that students have that ongoing level of care because as much as we can meet certain needs in the school environment there are plenty of situations in which we need to tap into Community Resources and say this need is too great for us to meet in the school they're requiring wraparound services and that can only be provided in the community that they live in some additional tier 3 Services include short-term counseling and again parental consent is required we have two different levels and this is our social emotional check-ins that our counselors provide as well as our mental health counseling that our team of social workers provide so over this last school year our counselors provided 3790 check-ins with students and our social workers provided 1083 mental health sessions
073we also support with behavior support and intervention we work closely with our Behavior techs and our Behavior specialist to make sure that referrals are getting placed for students who need them we support Behavior plans and help provide tips and tricks to teachers for meeting student need we also provide Crisis Intervention we are members both counselors and social workers are a member of the crisis response team we provide suicide assessments for our students psychosocial assessments and this last year Mr Rodriguez shared that we trained over 70 of our staff and youth Mental Health First Aid which provides a great ground level framework for anyone to be able to recognize the signs and symptoms of a student struggling with their Mental Health we conducted 132 suicide assessments over the last school year and we also provide case
074management Mr Rodriguez shared a bit about our homeless students they would fall under the purview of the mckinney-vento ACT which provides um let's see what's the best way to say it it provides protections and resources for students who are struggling with homelessness and then our students who are in foster care whether they're a waiting placement or whether they've been placed in permanent placement we want to work with that family to ensure that they have what they need to be successful not only in school but outside of school as Mr Rodriguez shared we have 102 students currently identified but I will Echo his sentiment that number is a lot higher in Fallbrook there are parameters that state that any student who lives in a doubled up situation meaning more than one family to a single family
075residence if they live in a situation such as that they qualify for protection under the mckinney-vento act and knowing our community here and how our families tend to live in generational housing we have families that can benefit that we're not currently identifying and so we're working very hard to identify these families to be able to provide them the services and resources that they need for this next part of our presentation we are going to share some of the student responses or their voices from our well-being surveys one of the questions that ask our students is um thinking about everything in your life right now what feels the hardest for you and these were the student responses three loved ones passed away in the last two years I tried so hard to hold back tears my
076dad um deploying again keeping my anxiety under control the hardest about in my life is that my parents not having a lot of money and just trying my hardest to support them with all my money another thing that is hard for me is having good grades to help my parents in life and here's another question that our students responded to what can teachers or other adults at school do to better help you have restorative circles so we won't feel as bad for things that happened in our lives I believe that teaches another those who really try to understand us kids keep me safe try to pay attention to other students and check on them because not everybody has the same emotions work to make sure there's no bullying with our student voices and responses we
077are able to understand their needs and through the work that counselors do and social workers and that collaboration and consultation with all of our school staff we can provide those supports that they are needing with the ever-changing social and emotional needs that they're facing thank you at this time I did want to include parent voice and that was this is Jennifer Blankenship as I said she's a parent from San onofre I'm going to ask her to come up please share good evening thank you for having me um I just wanted to kind of share my personal experience um at San onofre that's where my child goes to currently going into eighth grade we moved here in 2018 though and um probably about sixth grade 2021 2022 my son started struggling with mental health um we
078started noticing some things just little things like not wanting to eat in the lunchroom or you know um kind of isolating maybe going in the bathroom here and there um it wasn't anything too crazy but it was enough for the counselors to notice and to start bringing them in and trying to provide a space where you know okay you're not comfortable eating the lunchroom let's provide you a space that you're comfortable um eating in so um still kind of struggle a little throughout the year but it wasn't anything too crazy and we felt like the counselors you know things were going good meeting with the counselors more regularly uh regularly um but towards the end of the school year uh sixth grade year in 20 21 20 um it progressively hours to uh kind of
079came to a head where uh the counselor called me and said I need you to come to come to the you know come to the school and we sat down and had a meeting and figured out that my son was really struggling to the point where he he couldn't even verbally Express his thoughts she was able to get him to write down what he was feeling and it included it just I won't go through the exact details um but it was to a point where I don't know if I want to live anymore um and to go back you know that school year the teachers to give credit to the teachers the teachers were the first ones to notice some of these things which is how I knew it but you know like I said
080moving through the school year got to the end it got to that point where honestly I was panicked I never thought you know I saw that there's maybe some struggles but figured you know what this is just kind of maybe typical teenage stuff um you know we're getting into like 12 year old um so I had to take them you know have the suicide assessment at the school done and it was determined yes he needs to go to the hospital to be evaluated and he was hospitalization came next um but this was an area I had no clue about I you know um I didn't even know where to begin I felt lost um and it was towards the end of school year so after that we started um searching and searching and searching to
081try to find a therapist or somebody for my son to see after this continue you know from stepping down from uh being hospitalized to what's you know I didn't even know what level of carriage would come next at that point and um Tricare assigned as a case manager which was wonderful because I felt like okay I have somebody to help me find these resources um that actually proved to be pretty tough not only for my you know I did a lot of legwork trying to find a therapist for my child um and so did the case manager but we were getting to the same point you know having struggle we finally found somebody a therapist for Telehealth and the summer went great you know I'll be honest the summer was a really nice you know
082things seemed to be looking up probably a lot of kids you know out of school a lot of stresses kind of go down at summer you're relaxing um and it got better so I I started seeing kind of a light there okay this is good we're all right um you know and at the end of that you know going back I meant to touch on there was a safety plan put in place when my you know after that hospitalization so moving forward to the next school year um which would be seventh grade 2022 2023. um safety plan was still in place stayed in contact with the school counselors at that time it moved up to miss Ridley was in charge of the middle schoolers and almost immediately um we began having some struggles and serious
083struggles again I I can't even and I'm going to try not to get emotional but I can't tell you how many times we had to have um I had to drive up to the school uh my son needed to go get evaluated again he's suicidal and I didn't know what to do it got to a point you know where even the school counselor said hey look we have uh we have a social worker that I think it would be a really good idea to get you in contact with her name is Miss Reed and I at first I'm like a social worker I didn't know all these things that social workers did for the school um got in contact with Miss Reed and Miss Reed really stepped in and um you know I said I
084had my son had to uh I'm sorry let me uh but school was becoming a huge trigger and Miss Reed did step in and you know because some of the needs that my son had were those top tier levels that they were speaking about that he was at the top um having suicidal thoughts at school school was a big trigger um and I didn't know where to turn even with the help of a case manager through Tricare you think that we you know in the military we have resources but we don't sometimes know how to access it and the first people to notice it was school staff teachers counselors social worker you know Miss Reed um when I was trying to figure out what do I do now because my kid's not safe at school
085and not because school wasn't a safe place but because school became the Prime Focus for my son of where he wanted to die you know I'll just be blunt um so I couldn't keep him in school so I had to find I needed to know what higher level of care to you know he need and I didn't even know where to start and this read stepped in and helped me find resources of where to begin because I was just lost um and so she suggested this IOP program um so I started looking into that I got um I was kind of excited because okay we finally have something that you know my son could get into he can start getting the right level of care took him there a value he was evaluated turns out
086he needed even higher level than that he needed partial hospitalization program so um but that got us on the path you know that got us on the right path we needed to have a higher level of care and that's partial hospitalization but that means that's an all-day thing five days a week at least at least eight hours a day for these kids to be in a partial hospitalization program and then I was scared about what about academics um I didn't know where to turn when it came to academics and keeping my son on track academically but the first priority was um mental health and and that's another area that Miss Reed jumped in and said this is this is what we can do you know um while you know while my son was attending this
087program she checked in regularly what can we do let's arrange this you know meeting she arranged meetings with staff um with administrators at the school with the teachers to find out how we could best support my son while he's going through this and to make sure that the homework part's not going to be an issue and we can continue doing some form of like independent study while he attends these and um make sure I'm keeping on track here um so we said we set up the independent study and started the program and and although it was tough to start it out that was the right place to go and we we arrived there because because of the counseling because of uh Miss read that's how we arrived with those resources um otherwise I would have
088still been lost um while while my son was in the program uh that that support didn't stop Miss Reed would always check in how's he doing has a homework did homework receipt was homework there on Friday as the no homework isn't there maybe on for one Friday so she'd be the one to almost act as a liaison between the teachers and myself so that that was one less thing on my plate because I needed that I you know to have somebody in there making sure that the academic stuff is being taken care of took a tremendous weight off of my shoulders as a parent when I'm you know just trying to focus on getting my kid better um let's see so when it came time to my my son was in the PHP IOP program
089from October to January so it was a lengthy thing this is it took a lot of support a lot of support from the school from the teachers for wonderful checking and so I got to give them credit um but mystery really went up to bat for us on this and so when it came to planning his return what's return to school going to look like I was terrified I didn't know how that was gonna go so she arranged meetings let's let's arrange meetings and let's figure out how we can get mccadem back into school and not rush it so we planned um we planned his return a slow return you know to school enough you know in building up on that and we made sure um well miss Reed made sure that we got the
090meetings done for like 504 plan let's get that in place and let's make sure the safety plans on track and that the safety plan is being followed that all staff knows it including the teachers including the front office including the the nurse because the nurse needed to know too if my son needed to you know I need to go to the nurse's office or I need to go see Miss Reed that the the doors were always open everybody knew what was going on so that you know my son wasn't wandering or you know so that he was safe at school and I know that took a lot of effort for everybody but it was effort that you know what it kept my kid alive while at school and it's an appreciation like I can't even
091describe um let's see here um but on top of the return to school she also coordinated with uh the IOP case manager as well to get input from them on what how we can best support my son coming back into school what are some of the coping skills that work that we can use here and also this where he came up with a huge long list of things okay well here's things we can offer let's see what works because my kid is like you'll throw Coke he doesn't even like to hear the word coping skills anymore that's awesome doesn't want to ever hear that again but you know there was things that were offered anything that could you know help him if that meant going outside if that meant just popping into Miss Reed's office
092and just her sitting there while you know in silence until he was ready to talk um the door was always open and as well as the counselors too um when Miss Reed was on the other campus so I can't express enough how much it meant to have that support at the school because I'll tell you if that support wasn't there I don't know what would have happened and although although we're still working through the struggles the struggle's still still there mental health is a challenge and um when you have a kid that's struggling with these complex issues um they don't just go away and you know but I've been equipped with the tools because of the counselors because of misery to know the direction I need to go when I need to do it and
093I wouldn't have had that if it wasn't for the school and outside of the school did I have resources maybe but I didn't know where they were at I I was lost so without the school without the counselors without Miss Reed um I'm not sure what that would have looked like I know that I would have you know I would have been a mess I was a mess but less of a mess with having that kind of support in the schools so I just wanted to make sure to share my story because it's still ongoing but like I said um I kind of have a base of where to go now a foundation and I know a direction that I need to go when I need to go and even still to this point over
094the summer you know I I got a call from Miss Reed and it was how are you doing how's your how's your how's you know your son doing it's been a constant check-in and it's not you know it's it's it is the whole it's about it's about not only his academic you know success but his mental health success and um and also the family too check you know checking in on us and it was it was consistent uh throughout this entire last year year and a half it's been consistent and uh I really appreciate I'm grateful for for having misread um and for having the counselors and the school staff they're you know so that's what I have to share tonight all right thank you Mrs Blankenship for that um very personal story and and
095thank you for being Who You Are um not only what you do but who you are um our district-wide goals um really support our goal number two and goal number three that um that you are very well aware of we are as a school counselor and Social Work team create conditions support learning environment right promote that student well-being belonging and achievements and we know that um with our the increases that we've seen in engagement supportive relationships these are just to name a few the work that we do goes towards supporting our academic goal as well um um and so we're very proud of that um and it's about student belonging in this picture you see um students uh Potter doing a club rush we have our Veterans Day recognition down there in the bottom left
096Potter Junior High School student leader of the month kindness week lots of things to engage our kids um to create again that sense of belonging where they feel welcome they feel supported they feel valued their voice is heard they're given choice in their learning and and the activities they participate in at school we have um we have three uh broad priorities here going into this school year we are very excited to be offering our caregiver Academy with our counselors and social workers that's our monthly parent Guardian education opportunity that will be offered virtually in both English and Spanish we're very excited about that character strong we're going to build on our tier one character education program um which uh Ms Hernandez talked well about and we're implementing a tier two program as well for those
097kids that need some extra support our counselors with your approval attended the character strong Workshop a conference in Seattle this last month and had nothing but positive things to say something to say is probably one of the best things that they've attended and finally um going along with Mrs Hazel's 10 10 10 uh 10 10 decrease in chronic absenteeism using artery engagement strategies providing more professional learning to our educational partners and again focusing on supportive relationships and increased sense of belonging we know that in our department we are going to hit that Mark because we already hit it last year we had 11 so we are we we know what we need to do I told uh Mrs Hazel it shared that when she was meeting personally with all the principals they'd she had recognized
098after all of her meetings she says yeah that's a strained principles understand that that um that student support and the social emotional learning and so forth has been a strength well I said this year it's going to be a super strength of ours um and I wanted to I wanted to um I wanted to end with um again with our U.S Surgeon General he talked about connection as I said um because like when our parents said it does take a village to raise a child it does absolutely but it takes a community to create a sense of belonging okay and he said if we fail to do so on connection if we fail to do so we will pay an ever increasing price in the form of our individual and Collective health and well-being and
099we will continue to Splinter and divide until we can no longer stand as a community or a country instead of coming together to take on the great challenges before us we will further Retreat to our corners angry sick and alone thank you again for your time this presentation um if you have any questions we'd be more than willing to answer those at this point thank you can I just say one thing to all of you who participated in this and to our parents um this was probably one of the most important presentations I've been at in like two and a half years on the board and thank you for sharing I would like to Echo that thank you Mrs Blankenship for your testimony very impactful I think it's um something you said I think this
100was right on in terms of you know knowing that we have the resources but don't but that we don't know how to access them these are resources that are critical um and and it's it's very real um I'm I'm familiar with some of the challenges I I you know my I know what some of my uh daughter Sprints are going through and it's uh there's we're I've seen that situation where his resources are here but you know how can we get what you know I know our schools I just want to make sure my parents know their resources are here and um and uh you know it's a matter of knowing how to access them and really appreciate the fact that our district can provide such critical support uh it is about the whole student
101um and um again really appreciate everyone who uh for providing these uh services to our students and our families a lot of times about technical stuff um so is the survey is this the health what is the name of this survey that was given to the kids the survey itself is a it's a panorama survey we give that three times a year mm-hmm we've been this is our I think we're going into our third year now what time of the year is this given so we do that at the beginning of the year uh at the at the beginning of each trimester essentially is when we're offering that same we are on the same uh schedule as our um as our academic assessments okay so we're measuring separate survey for the children as uh the
102students and one for the parents or we're all students okay so thank you for let me clarify so we uh so our um our students TK through second grade uh that is a teacher perception survey our our children at that age are probably a little too young to identify um in themselves uh their social skill development so our teachers take that as a teacher perception survey third through eighth grade our students are taking that survey and then we do have a parent survey that we uh that we um that we administer at the end of the year um last year we did around March time and we did that and we did that in um um together with our um with our lcap survey in our parents survey essentially uh getting our parent feedback I
103think it's really important um you know we've had and I appreciate our parents that were that spoke tonight about their appreciation for the program but we want to hear from parents who have some feedback um maybe that that uh some critical feedback where they maybe want to see some things differently so we are very much open to that as well so this is separate from the I believe it's called the healthy the healthy kids survey yeah the healthy kids survey is a requirement that we that we um we administer that to our fifth graders um and to our seventh graders every year and and and all of these surveys just so you're aware these are all um with parent consent okay thank you you're welcome and as a former Middle School teacher I I know
104what unsung heroes you all are and that's why I built a really great relationship with my counselors at the school because you all work tirelessly behind the scenes and you give hours that you don't have to give it's not part of your contract so I know for a while that you do it and I'm very appreciative of what you all do because you you get a lot of the things that take it off the teacher's plates and I'm sure they're appreciative as well you see things that we don't necessarily see and we try to be that symbiotic relationship so thank you for all that you you do and I'm glad that you found that the counselors here and the the psychologists and the support teams are very helpful here as are or these people great

107mentioned I have some general questions I read through all the attached stuff first of all thank you for allowing me to speak here tonight but uh I read through the attached documents on those line items under the consent agenda and I just had a number of questions and I've been here a few times now and this isn't really a question and answer form so if you have a point of contact that I can contact with questions about the agenda items I can jot that down and maybe email that the preference is that the preferred okay then okay Miss Hazel okay the only thing I wanted to act uh I will make a comment on obviously on the agenda items at 10 11 and 12. 108all that stuff these after school programs that they did I mean when I was growing up you know we had the YMCA the YWCA the Boys and Girls Club were just starting we would just you know go to arcades or ride bikes and we had none of this stuff and you got quite a variety of lists here that was pretty uh exciting to see but I think there's something I know the year is starting and everything's been allocated um but I think one of the clubs that somebody should maybe jot down and consider making contact is the Good News Club I've worked with an adult that's been part of Good News Club for over a decade now and I can tell you the students it's just like these other things karate dance drama Reading Theater
109they go to it one time and they don't just enjoy it but they've come back year after year so I think The Good News Club is a very worthy Club to put out there for the students in the district that's all I've got thank you and that's it for coming um so the consent agenda it is recommended the governing board approved the consent agenda as presented do I have a motion to approve I'll make that motion thank you John second thank you and for development samal aye Ms lindean aye Mr Favela aye Ms McBride aye and I vote I as well and that brings us to adjournment at 7 40.
