led by principal Linda Heredia. Linda. Unified School District members, members, parents, and community members. My name is Linda Heredia and I am the very proud principal at Lar Rosa Elementary. As I enter my fifth year in leadership at this school, I continue to be inspired by the strong partnership between our staff, families, and community. Together, we remain focused on elevating student engagement and providing meaningful systems so that every student at LaRosa succeeds. Tonight, I am very honored to introduce to you a group of some of our third grade uh lunch leaders. These students represent the voice of our campus. They will be sharing some of the ways we build leadership, support social and emotional growth, and create engaging learning opportunities for all students. Hello. If you forgot, my name is Logan and I am a
third grade one of the third grade lunch graders. I was chosen to be a part of a special where we talk where we meet once a month during lunch on the stage. During our meetings, we talk about what is going well at the school and what we think could be better. We share ideas to help our school be a better place for everyone. For example, we talk about playground rules, kindness, and ways to solve problems. It makes me feel proud that our principal listens to our ideas. Being a luncher helps us learn how to be responsible and use our voice to make a difference. At Lea, we learn about our feelings and how to make good choices. Our school counselor provides us with monthly grade lessons in the cafeteria and teaches us how to recognize
our emotions and express them in healthy ways. Sometimes she comes in for extra lessons to help our class with things like problem solving and working together. We also have special groups like friendship groups and self-efficacy groups. These groups meet once a week for six weeks and help students build confidence, make friends, and believe in themselves. These lessons help us feel safe, supported, and ready to learn. They also help us make friends. Hello, my name is Evan. After school, many students get to go to ride at school. It is fun and engaging and we also get time to finish our homework. This year, I also had the chance to join code coding ninjas or coding club with code ninjas instructors. I was part of this club. I learned new coding skills and how to solve problems
using technology. These programs help us learn new things, have fun, and grow our skill outside of the regular school day. >> Hello, my name is Sophie Wong. This year, the Rosa started a junior course for second and third graders. In We learn how to sing, practice songs, and work together as a group. Our teacher, Mr. Goldber, helps us improve our singing skills, and build confidence. I enjoy being part of a chorus because it is fun, and I get to express myself through music. Because of this, I had the opportunity to audition for The Little Mermaid Musical and even got cast as a turtle. Hello, my name is Milani Garcia. At Lar Roa, our school helps all students learn and grow. Some students even get extra help through an intervention program. In this program, students work
with retired teachers to help them improve their reading skills. When students get better and reach their goals, they exit the program and return to their regular classes and return to the regular classes with more confidence. This shows that our school cares about helping every student succeed. Thank you to our incredible student leaders for sharing their experiences. At Lar Roa, we believe in empowering the student voice, supporting the whole child and creating opportunities for every student to tr to thrive. These students are a reflection of the strong systems we have already put in place and that the dedication of our staff and community. We are proud of the work happening at Lar Rosa and we remain committed committed to ensuring that every student succeeds. Thank you so very much. >> Thank you guys. They did amazing,
didn't they? >> Oh, they're awesome. >> Time for a photo op. If Are there any questions or comments? >> I was just wondering the lunchtime leaders. >> It's yes, third grade lunch leaders. >> How are they chosen? Do they volunteer or they elected? >> So um they were selected based on several different types of groups and then um they had the option of being part of it if they would like to be part of it. Uh the majority did opt in to be part of it, but once I asked them, hey, can you come and present to to all my bosses? They're like, NO, THANK YOU. BUT I HAD THESE uh brave individuals. Um obviously the goal is to continue to uh increase in um uh in the way that we approach this new system
and I was just talking to my counselor just because we're already thinking about next year and we were talking about next year we're going to make it more of a an electoral process making sure that um they have input u still looking at all the subgroups. I have some some uh certificates to hand out and and Linda actually can you help me make sure the right student gets this. The first one is for Evan Shay. Next one is for Logan. >> Stay right there. >> Stay here. Stay here, Evan. >> We're gonna take a group picture. Come on, Logan. >> We're gonna take one big group picture when we're all done. Yes. >> Sophia Wong. >> The last one is for Milani Garcia. >> Anybody else? one. jean shirt. Thank you. Okay, that we'll get
back to the meeting. Um, we're going to move on to item 13, public comment. >> Thank you. >> We have any request for >> Hi. >> Do we have any request for public comment? No. Okay. Then we're going to move down to item 14, community update. Uh there's just one thing tonight um that tomorrow at the high school is going to be a city of hope blood drive there and you're able to give and place to be is in the media center between 8 and two and hope we can help them out there. >> Can I add some couple more things? >> Certainly. >> Okay. Couple more things for the community update. Um, the Wizards are playing uh Temple City staff on Sunday and I'm sure tickets are still available so hopefully everyone will come
out for that. And also the Chameleia Festival is holding the theme contest right now through May 11th and applications are available online and I've noticed a lot of the schools have had them in Parent Square. The winners get cash prizes and the person whose theme is chosen gets to ride in the parade next year. So submit your entries. >> Thank you. >> Okay, now we're moving on to item 15, bargaining unit comments. And item Elias, would you like to say something? And uh CSA 105, are you representing them? >> A23. Do you have Sorry. Do you have anything you want to say or no? >> Oh, thank you. Glad to hear you're happy. Um, with that, we're going to move on to district updates, starting first with business services and Connie. Woo. Connie, what do
you have for us? >> Good evening, everybody. Yesterday, Anthony and I, we attend the LEGO green school event and during the event, we learned that there is opportunity for green schoolyard grant provided by KI fire. And this grant basically support replacing heat trapped export and the pavement with trees and green space. Create a rain garden and a bottom garden, develop outdoor classroom and nature playground, plant native tree to increase the urban um canal. Anthony and I will both get connected with the person who in charge program and then this year uh the program is totally $25 million for for the public school will be available in the fall of this year. So NC and I will keeping until our eyes open tomorrow so that we can submit our applications. So that's good opportunity for us.
CWD our district independent audit has started this school year's audit and the new 25 Audit guideline officially adopted last month and a new audit guideline basically stronger requirement for auditors independence and their independent truthy of the sampling for the audit. They continue emphasize the auditor for the program compliance as well as attendance and also there's a new requirement for the notification. So deadline for the um pri year report were due to the county on December 15. So starting this year if any auditor reporter miss the deadline the audit firm required to report county office education CD and state controls office. So that's new and I want to take this opportunity thank for her hard work and timely assistant with translation with bound survey and postcard. She commit to communicate to make sure that our translation
is accurate reflect of both message and intended delivery. After a while I figure out how difficult because I think our consultant their graphic design they don't understand Chinese. So every time we submit revision and then our consultant ask us to review we realize that the translation different from our last version. So this today I just received the version and realized that the wording for the Chinese character changed again. So it is very difficult and because they don't understand it. So, Amber have to put the English language tell them what is former translation Chinese character, what is the after. So, we'll continue work work on it. But she has been very patient and last Friday I actually actually she was sick. So, I call her and she actually um get out of bed come to my
office and and try to do another reversion. So, I really appreciate today is professional day and I I think we want to thank Marie for her daily support and assistant in making our life easier. Marie hold one of the most important administrative role in the district. She has a remarkable ability to quickly locate a board agenda even 40 20 30 years ago. I I sometime I couldn't even find yesterday's email. So she also reminds me that certain school event their schedule changes including sometime our me schedule she make sure she remind me but sometime busy I still forget so sorry about that so I normally we uh we have not take time especially me take enough time to thank you sometime we are so focused on what we are doing but I just want to
write even if I did not say enough thank you but I do I do from bottom of my heart. And there I wish you have a wonderful the rest couple of hours administration profession day. >> Okay, with that we are on to educational services. Dr. Stacy. Stacy, what do you have for us? >> Hi, good evening. Um, I also wanted to echo uh Conniey's sentiments about administrative professionals day. Thank you to all the administrative professionals out there across our district. We really extend our sincere appreciation for all that you do to be able to support us with without us. I'm sure that we would be an absolute mess. And so, you are all a vital role to be able to um help our schools and our community. Um, also wanted to remind everyone that we
are going to have a parent education night on April 27th at Temple City High School. Um Kristen Castro, our counselor at the high school, is um funded through our aware grant for part of her contract. And through that uh aware grant, she is able to provide family um workshops. And this particular workshop that she will be presenting with herself as well as some team members is uh to help us focus on an understanding of academic as well as social needs of our students. So, I encourage parents to come out and listen to the message because I think it's going to be very powerful about how we continue to support our students in these areas to be able to provide support and help them connect to their personal goals. Um, so once again, this will be
April 27th at 6:30 in the media center at the high school. And then also, we are underway with all of our summer school plans. all of our staff uh has been notified and invited to participate as well as our students. Our students have received invitations to participate in summer school if they um qualify to be able to attend. And so I would just like to extend a special thank you to Cindy and Daryl for their outstanding organization and collaboration with all of our departments to be able to get summer school off and running. and also wanted to extend that to Lou and to Raine in special education as they continue to um get our ESY program off the ground for um summer school. And also Mickey for the work that she does to be able
to partner with us as a school district for the our summer school offerings um paired with our afterchool summer school offerings where um the right at school program will continue their um program during the summertime. And so parents have been invited to participate um in that program if it's something that they need during the the summer um hours. So thank you to so many team members for making so many busy things happen during this time of the year. >> Thank you Stacy. And then moving right along to human services, human resource services, Richard Lman. Richard, >> good evening everybody. I am also um going to piggyback on on Connie and uh Stacy about administrative professional day. The district does not run without them. So, we we work hard every day and they work harder, I
think, or they make our jobs easier. So, um greatly appreciate all they do and a special thanks to Marie. Um she is not our secretary, but she takes care of us in everything we do. Um there are days when I come in and like Maria is the first one I see and it makes the day go easier. So, Marie, thank you for all that. I do not have flowers, but mental flowers to you. Um, I also want to piggyback on what Stacy said about summer school. The thank yous. Um, they continue to go um to those people who are working very hard. Cindy, Daryl, Rayen, Lou. I also want to add Jurus and Lucy to that list. Um, they worked on or we worked on classified staffing and so the classified staff who will support
summer school will be notified in the next couple days as well. And so, like Stacy said, we are 90% complete on our staffing. I think we need an earth side teacher. Um, other than that, we are good to go. And then finally, over the ca past couple of board meetings, we've seen people's names show up as retirement. So, I want to take a moment to thank everyone who's retiring for their commitment to TC and the service that they've given to our district. Um, if I'm doing the math correctly on the teacher side, there's eight retirees and it represents 200 years plus of service. Um, so that's exactly how I when I did the math, I was like that that that is right. Um it is a long time. So my thanks to all of our
retirees and a a beautiful future for them. So it thank you. >> Great. Thank you, Richard. With that, we're going to move on to board member comments starting tonight with me. Mary, >> thank you. First want to also thank for administrative professionals. You take care of us. You answer all of our questions that you don't want to ask in certain ways. You just answer those questions to get us where we need to be when we need to be there. Thank you. Um I want to thank the Rosa for presenting tonight. You have so many wonderful things going on at the Rosa and the students tonight just did a fabulous job. We should be really I know you're very proud of what they did tonight. Um it's only been two weeks since our last meeting, but
it's been a really really busy Um, I enjoyed your steam night. It was just so much fun. There was I think everybody from your every family from your school was there. But there were so many activities. They there were plenty of things to do. And after that, I I left Rosa and went up to the high school for the air show. And it was just a fun evening and just another chance to be totally impressed by our students and our staff. Um, I enjoyed the open house and the tacos at the BDSLC. Um there are just lots of exciting things happening there. Um I'm looking forward actually tomorrow. I'm the museum director for the historical society and we have the ATP students coming up in the morning to visit the museum in a couple of
groups and um then their adulthood students are coming in the evening. It's nice to have them visiting the museum and I'm also looking forward to tomorrow night London's open house. Um I did many open houses there while I was teaching and but it's a fun night for everybody. Um last week look at my at my calendar I just leave on the dining room table for my husband to see where I might be going. Um it was just jam-packed. Last Wednesday night, two of the high school students um Jason and Tyler received $40,000 scholarship from the Amazon and part of that award included an internship this summer. So that's very exciting. Then that night um we enjoyed the elementary band spring concert and the next night we enjoyed the elementary orchestra concert and over those two
nights over 500 students were performing. That is just astounding. Um Last night we saw a couple hundred more students performing um in the back showcase and it's just a wonderful another wonderful show and those teachers who are working with our students are doing just a great job keeping the arts alive giving our chance our kids a chance to experience that. Um the high school students have been busy. Uh coro score high in all their areas won best first place overall showmanship award which isn't surprising. USA won their 19th state title and will be sending four students to compete at the nationals in Georgia. Signs Olympia, placed fourth in the Southern California state tournament. FBLA team had five members qualify for nationals this just list after list of and the Winter Guard won first place in
their competition. Just one thing after another that shows how outstanding our students are. And lastly, um, through all those events, I want to thank our teachers and staff who work really hard to help our students shine. Um, before we have our next meeting, it's going we're going to be having teacher appreciation week and then classified employee appreciation week. Um, I was fortunate to be both a classified and a certificated employee in the district. And I want to thank everybody who works to make our district the best it can be for our students. I was honored to be both fill those positions in this district and I was very blessed to be able to do that. So happy teacher appreciation week. >> Great. Thank you Mary. Moving on now to member Georgin. >> Thank you. Um,
happy administration professionals day, especially to Marie who takes such good care of us and always does it with a smile and she's always so pleasant no matter how difficult we are and uh we all really appreciate you a lot, Marie. So, thank you very much. Also, happy Arbor Day and don't forget to hug a tree today. They provide us with the oxygen that allows us to live. Um, I've attended a lot of activities these past couple weeks. We had our, uh, quarterly meeting with the city. Um, and we, uh, have various topics we talk about, but, one of the constant discussion items is the ebike situation. And I know a lot of people have concerns about that. And so we are continuing to work with the city and they are working with their public safety
department and law enforcement to try to come up with solutions. Um however, uh this isn't a pro a problem specific to us. It's happening all over the place. And so, um, it's just something that we need to keep working on and keep trying to address, um, so that we can avoid having any children get seriously injured. I attended the DDSLC open house, which was very nice. I attended LaRosa Steam Night and I have to say that was absolutely magnificent. Um, you guys, you're the the queens or kings of uh, Steam Knights. you do an excellent job. It was really nice. Um I also attended after that went to the drum line sendoff at the high school and if anyone hasn't seen drum line before you really need to see it because it is so entertaining.
It's so much fun to watch. Matter of fact, I think they're having another performance in May sometime and I highly recommend um watching Drumline. I was fortunate to be able to go to the high school on the day that Amazon came and gave out the two $40,000 scholarships. So, congratulations to Jason and Tyler. I also attended a Temple City High School night baseball game and those are really fun. Um, you know, this is a new thing for us having night baseball games and um I really enjoy it. I This is my second one so far this year. So, I highly recommend those. Uh, I attended the elementary orchestra concert, the Vapa Showcase last night. And on Saturday, the historical society had a little ribbon cutting for our new front yard. And we had members of
the Temple City High School orchestra performing. And I just wanted to comment that not only are those students very talented, but they're very kind and professional and just a joy to work with. And I really appreciate that they took time out on their Saturday afternoon to come out and perform for our event. I want to congratulate Winter Guard who took first place in a recent competition. Coro who got five trophies in a recent competition. Science Olympiad who uh placed fourth in the Southern California State Tournament tying their um best uh placement. Uh FBLA who was in the California State Leadership Conference and has five national qualifiers and Skills USA um as um member Sneed said their 19th state championship and they're going to represent California in the National Championship Health and Knowledge Bowl this summer.
So, congratulations to all of them. And that's all I have. Thank you. >> Great. Thanks, Donna. Moving right along now to Mosa Espinosa. Melissa, >> good evening everybody. Um, I wanted to start just by thanking everybody here on the board for um acknowledging um Denim Day, which is really acknowledging, you know, sexual selfawareness. So, thank you so much for doing that. Um, I also want to recognize administrative professionals day and thank Marie so much. Um you're very sweet and supportive and um we don't ever go without what we need because of you. So thank you so much. Um I did attend the I didn't I'm not going to probably go through what I all the things that I attended in the last couple weeks, but I will highlight two things because I think our my
fellow board members covered some of the events. But um I did attend the um Temple City Council PTA meeting and I'll just share a little bit of what they're doing. Um they are um planning for the Wizards event this Sunday. Um they are also um they've they've developed like a a group of individuals who will be studying uh the bond study to determine if PTA can support it um and at what level they will support it. If they do proceed with that, they've been they've already assembled that group. and they're looking at that. They just have their own process that they have to go through in order to be able to do that. Um, but we got a lot of good questions. Um, I know, um, Dr. Kuna was there. He gave a very good
presentation. Um, and they are also, um, kind of wrapping up with final events and, um, there's lots of them, um, at this time of year. Um, but I do also want to talk about that. Elementary BAPA show last night that was inspiring. It was it was so heartfelt. Um I was so happy to see those young students so happy to be up there and performing and with so much poise and so much energy and confidence. Wow. I mean it shows. It shows even our Lar Rosa students here um who one of them spoke about her participation in elementary BPA program and she did so with you know just confidence and and happiness um to have this opportunity. Um I think you know I want to thank Gilbert and Lacy for their work. U we are
lucky to have them. They have so much energy and so much dedication to those students. um it just it just makes me so proud of them and their program and it's just um gosh it's it's so wonderful to see. So, thank you so much for that um event, that performance. It was awesome and I'm looking forward to many more um as we move along here. And I think that's all we'll share today. Thank you. >> Great. Thanks, Melissa. Next, we'll hear from member Bill Vincent. What do you have for us? All right. Uh, good evening everyone. Uh, you guys all covered everything pretty much. I mean, it's the truth. Um, you know, I guess I'm going to speak about just all these wonderful things that are happening in and around district across all different things,
whether it be in BAPA, in athletics, or in the sciences and STEM. Um, and I guess this leads to, you know, the tie in of Why administrators are so important and I know that firsthand because of the groups I work with. Without Maria Cabrera, without a Jennifer Lope uh sorry Flores. >> Yeah. All right. Boy, that's going to last now. Okay. Um but um all these individuals, the Heidi Smiths, um everyone that makes this whole place work. Uh I appreciate we appreciate all of you because without all your help and support uh to do all those little things that need to happen or else our kids do not get to compete. They do not get to do all these things. Um that is really what's important. Um, so I, you know, we all really appreciate
that and I know, you know, I think we all do and of course uh we're in, you know, such a fortunate time uh that a district that is functioning uh this well and everybody's working together collaboratively for the support of our kids results in things like having an Edison scholar, couple of Amazon scholars. That doesn't happen just because these kids applied. It's because of all the things that have come before that allowed them to develop themselves to be who they are today. And you know, I was talking to um D at at STEM night that go, how long have we been doing this? 15 years? I can't remember, you know, and and and and it shows and and that history and that joy. And thank you for keeping that going. Really appreciate all of that.
Um, you know, it helps to inspire us to think of what's new and what's next, you know, as we lead and and and and help these different groups of kids to develop new thoughts, ideas. Um, it's amazing stuff. And you know, I'll say Marie, and I said this in the card, I'll be honest about it. When I sub when I came to this district office to submit my application for that open seat, It's been so long. I don't recognize anyone until I walked up to the third floor and I saw you. So, and and that told me this is the right thing that I'm trying to do. >> And and of course, I appreciate all of you for allowing me to be a part of this and to continue to help and make things great
here in the district for kids. So, and that's it for me today. Thank you. Yeah. >> Great. Thank you, Vincent. And then I'll close out. Um I'm not going to repeat a lot of the things that people have participated in. I did attend a lot of those. I didn't attend all of them, but I really enjoyed it. The the the electricity in the air, you just everybody's excited, enjoying their times and laughing together and starting to see the year wind down maybe a little bit and kind of regretting that. But um it's just been a really great opportunity to get out there and see what's going on and I really appreciate that. Um, I did also want to shout out especially to Marie. I will repeat that because she she earns every nickel she gets
sometimes twice for me, you know. Literally, I give her nickels. I forgot about that. Uh, and then, uh, I just I I once again have to note another couple of contributions for the Tote Tech program. uh $5,20068 and change and just you just keep on ringing that bill and getting that money. So, thank you. With that, I'm going to move on to number item 18, uh student board member comments and Xavier Munoz. Xavier, what do you have for us? >> Good evening, everyone. Uh first off, I would like to start off by wishing a happy administrative professionals day. Special shout out to Miss Montero. Thank you for always being so welcome, welcoming to me and always encouraging me and always just giving me like the best advice. Um uh next up I would like to
talk about Lar Rosa's presentation. I really loved um specifically the reading intervention slide you have. Uh I think that giving that extra reading support is always just so important and so helpful. So it really like fills me with like joy to see like you doing all that extra giving sorry providing all that extra support. Um our next board meeting will um be after AP exams. So if you are taking any AP exams, I wish you the best of luck. And um special shout out to Drumline for competing in Ohio who placed in the top 10. And I also want to wish a good luck to our Temple City High School tennis uh men's tennis team. They have their senior night today, so wishing them the best of luck. And special shout out to high school
ASP and PEP for putting together another another uh successful Mr. TC event. Uh they had a full house and congratulations to our Mr. TC Dylan Lamb. And then as our year sort of starts to come to a close, we have all these wonderful performances um which include our Oak Avenue Royal with their end of year performance. These feet were made for dancing on Saturday, May 2nd at 4 pm. We also have our Temple City High School coro dance team performing their coro coro world tour on April 30th and May 1st at 700 p.m. And you can buy your tickets from M any uh Temple City High School coro member. And our brighter side singers are also having their show uh extravaganza this Friday in room 601. That's it for me. >> Thanks. Thank you, Xavier.
With that, we're going to move on to superintendent comments. Dr. Art. >> Thank you. Um, so first off, I I would like to echo all of your comments and and Mr. Bell's uh in the sense that uh we have a really really good group of administrative professionals in this building. Um, all very supportive. Um, and I appreciate all of the work and Marie um thank you for the example you set. Um it is like you all said I know that she works to support me and the board, but it's not just me and the board. She supports everybody in this building. Um and I've never not heard her be willing to support somebody. Um and no matter what it takes, she always will get it done. And so, thank you for everything you do. Um
the Oh, Linda, the the kids you brought in. Um just phenomenal. Like I I really do appreciate we talked about this at the beginning of the year or maybe it was at the end of last year, I can't remember, but really how do we get our students to to be more vocal about what's happening on their school sites and for you to do what you've done with them. I I truly appreciate it. You know, when I was at the uh when I was when I was able to take part in the talking tours, I really remember the one at Lar Rosa just because they're so young, but man, they were so vocal and eloquent and just everything they said, it was just spot on and I I you know, that doesn't happen by accident. So,
thank you for the work you do with that. um the VAPA showcase yesterday. Um yeah, it was really good. Um the the part that I struggle with is um you know, not only do we we try to provide opportunities for kids to showcase their talent, but we try to provide opportunities for parents to be proud. Um and we were just so overcrowded in that gym yesterday, which I really appreciate everybody showing up, but we're, you know, Stacy and I were talking about it uh this morning like, okay, what do we do to make sure that parents are able to, you know, enjoy the performance? Um, and how do we work that out? Because, you know, we it was one it was a five o'clock start and it was packed. Um, so I know we've heard
before that, you know, five might be too early, but I don't think it was because it was very full uh in there. And I just, you know, I I see grandparents and I see, you know, siblings and I just want them to be able to enjoy the show and not have to worry about, you know, where they're standing or if they're blocking this or if kids are trying to get in and out. So, we'll we'll work on that, but I do appreciate our parents showing up and supporting their students. Um, I want to uh give a shout out to our staff. I know we are recognizing our our teachers and our classified staff uh in this next month. You are what make us great. I I enjoy working here because of the people I get
to work with. Um, yesterday I was at a a training uh at Oak and just to even like, you know, Matt was talking about like just still people having a good time and enjoying being around one another. Uh, we are in a very busy time of the year. Um, and I know that nobody is counting because nobody wants to leave, but there is about 25 days left in the school year. Um, if you didn't know already. Um, >> you're not counting. Um but uh you know and and as much as we joke about that, I really do find it important for us to be on this end of the the school year because our staff does need that time to get away and just kind of relax and and rejuvenate and and come back so
that we can start again next year even stronger than we did this year. So, um, that being said, uh, I, you know, thank you to all of our our staff. We, we could not do this without you. And, uh, finally, I will be going to a couple of things this weekend. Uh, we have the, uh, students, uh, who are going to be, uh, presenting their their PSAs for suicide prevention uh, through the aware grant. And so last year, I don't know if you remember, but we had a couple of students who were actually recognized. I don't know if we have uh any finalists this year, but I'll find out on Saturday. Um, but thank you to LEGO for um hosting the event. And so we have uh students from Oak and from the high school
who will be going to uh Universal Studios to uh participate in this. And I don't I can't remember do they get tickets to I No, they do. They get tickets to the park, too. So uh they get to enjoy the park uh on Saturday and then obviously on Sunday uh Like Donna mentioned, the um the Wizards uh will be here and you know, looking forward to that. I know we had to cancel it last year and so this was uh a makeup and I know PTA worked really hard to to put on these really nice events for our students. I was talking to Susanna today who was able to go around uh to all of the uh assemblies. She said it was just the kids were so excited uh by it. And so I'm I'm
looking forward to a good showing on on Sunday. Um and I I just hope my team doesn't disappoint me. >> And that's it for me. >> Great. Thank you very much, Art. Uh, with that, we're going to move on to item 20, written communications. And I did receive a letter from LEO, and I'll give you the abbreviated version. It says, "Dear Mr. Smith, the Los Angeles County Superintendent of Schools has completed our review. The Temple City Unified School District's uh fiscal year 2025 26 second interim report. We concur with the district's positive certification." Biggest important thing. And then they also say, "We are concerned about the projected trend deficit spending and its impact on the district's ability to maintain minimum acquired REU in the future. REU means revenue for economic uncertainties. Therefore, we recommend the
district monitor the causes for deficit spending in order to keep it manageable and to minimize further erosion of the fund balance. That's that we're moving on to discussion action, excuse me, discussion information category. But we have nothing to talk about in that category. So now we're moving on to the discussion action uh category and starting first with number 21 administration adoption of a resolution 2526-22 ordering governing board member election to be held on November 3rd. And I have down here Art, you want to say something about this? >> Yeah. So, this is a a required uh resolution uh whenever we have elections. Um and so we do have two seats that are or two district seats that are available or will be uh up for uh uh election in the November 3rd 26. Thank you.
So, I'm going to go ahead and take the vote. Actually, I need a motion in a second. >> Second. Second from member Torino. Uh preferential vote. Student board member Munoz. >> Yes. >> And then I'm going to do a roll call for the remainder remaining board members. Member Espinosa. >> Yes. >> Member Georgino. >> Yes. >> Member Sneed. >> Yes. >> Member Bill. >> Yes. >> And I'm a yes as well. So the motion carries 5. Moving down to item 22. calls for adoption of resolution 2526-23 proclaiming week of the May 4th through the 8th 2026 as teacher appreciation week and so I'm going to need a motion and a second that and then I'm going to ask a >> second that was too quick first and second was okay and does anybody want to
make comment do you have anything you want to say about >> yeah you know like we all said in our our previous comments just our appreciation for staff. Um, but I also wanted to say that I I want to thank uh PTA because they also will be taking care of the recognition for staff uh during those weeks. And so um you know I I know that there is much more uh we would want to do uh to show our appreciation for staff. Um but you know uh thank you for for what you do and I We appreciate everything that is provided by uh our our sites and our uh PTA. >> Thank you. With that, I'm going to go ahead and call for the vote. Preferial vote. Student member Xavier. >> Yes. Excuse me. >>
Yes. >> Member Georgina. >> Yes. >> Member C. >> Yes. >> Member Bill. >> Yes. I'm a yes. And member Espinosa. >> Yes. The motion carries 5. Moving down to item 23, which calls for adoption of resolution 2526-24 proclaiming week the week of May 17 through 23rd, 2026 is classified school employees week. And once again, I'm going to ask >> member is going to go ahead and make the motion and member Espinos seconded. I'm sorry got the first motion and um RT you want to say about this? >> No, I I just uh tied everything in 22 23 together. Okay, that's okay. Very good. So with that, I'm going to go ahead and call for the vote. Student board member Munoz. >> Yes. >> And then members, >> member Bill, >> Yes. Member Espinosa, >>
yes. >> And member, >> yes. Motion carries. Thank you. Moving down now to uh item 24, adoption of resolution 2526-25, recognizing AsianAmerican, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, May 2026. May I have a motion and a second on that? So move. >> I'll second. >> Motion from member Bill, second from member Espinosa. Any comments or questions or anything about this? Okay, go ahead and call for the vote. Student board member Munoz. >> Yes. >> Member Bill. >> Yes. I'm a yes. Member Espinosa. >> Yes. >> Member Georgina. >> Yes. >> And members need >> the motion carries 5. Moving down to item 25. Calls for a motion to receive board policy for first reading. board policy 6146.1 high school graduation requirements and I have down here note Stacy did you want to say something
about this? >> I would like to say something about this. So just wanted to make note of the change um that's significant I think to our graduation requirements. for a long time. We have had a health um class at uh Temple City High School uh as part of the graduation requirements for a number of years. Um this is not something that is required by the state for us to have a health class and because of some changes in staffing. Um we are looking to move the health requirements um into different subject area at the high school and to remove the health education class as a graduation requirement. Um so that will also decrease the total number of credits needed for graduation from 230 to now 225. Thank you. Okay, with that I'm going to go
ahead and call for a motion in a second. >> So move >> motion for member Bill and I'll take the second and I'll start. >> Oh, quick quick question. Okay, so the um number of credits um gets reduced but then in 2030 and 31 we have to add the financial course and it goes back up. So the financial literacy course is actually um a new graduation requirement. However, ECON is not a graduation requirement. So what we anticipate may happen is is that over the course of time students may start to decrease in taking econ and taking financial literacy instead. However, I know many of our students love to take AP um economics as well. So they're in the process of making an AP financial literacy class potentially. So it may not necessarily change total credits.
It will just again change a future graduation requirement for the students in 2030 31 will have to have financial literacy um as their graduation requirement. >> Thank you. You know I remember five six years ago we open started a new course in math. In fact, I think my kid taught it had to do with finance and economics and uh is that still going on and is this part of that related somehow? >> So, uh we've been having those conversations as well. I think that some of the courses that are currently on the uh master schedule at the high school may cause some confusion around uh the way that they are labeled in regards to what is required. And so this particular financial literacy class is different than the current one that is happening on the
course schedule with very clear requirements. So um my guess is that course will still remain um but it's a different type of math requirement versus this one it would be fitting more in social studies econ class. Is there anything you want to add Dr. >> Uh we were hoping that it would have but it does not. We'll have to abide by the regulations. Yes. >> Okay. Thank you very much. So, uh, we have a motion. We have a second. And this is not a roll call vote. So, all in favor Oh, wait, wait. I'm sorry. Student board member Munoz, you get your own vote. >> Yes. >> Okay. Now, for the rest of the board, all in favor, please say yes. I >> motion carries. 5 Z. Thank you. >> That we're on to the
business services category, starting with item 26. which calls for a motion to adopt resolution 2526-26 approving an assignment of delinquent tax finance authority for fiscal years ending June 30th 2027 2028 and 2029 and authorizing execution and delivery of related documents and actions so ask for a motion a second and we're going to ask Connie to tell us a little more about it >> motion for member Georgino >> I'll second Second member bill that Tony >> board this is actually renew resolution for threeyear term and the last time the board approved the resolution actually expire I know last school year basically by board adopted the resolution allow the district to participate in this special organized JPA um authorized and approved by the government code um this JPA actually sell the community delinquent property tax to a
third party by doing that all the penalty and interest earned on the del property tax instead of cod as um part of poverty tax which is $1 by dollar reduce the LCFF state aid it become un revenue. So this actually is the positive and the most of school district in a county they are member of this JPA so our district participate this JPA since 20 um 2002 and then in the last four years we actually receive re received over $53,000 as a result of the annual and the penalties from tax. >> Great. Any questions for I don't see any. So I'm going to go ahead and call for the vote student board member. >> Yes. the board members. I'm the 21st. I'm going to be at vote. Yes. Member Espinosa. >> Yes. >> Member Georgina.
>> Yes. >> And Bill. >> Yes. >> And the motion carries 5. Moving on to item 27, which calls for a motion or approval to approve authorization of the county superintendent of schools to make 2025 2026 hearing budgetary appropriation transfers. So I may have motion and a second member Georgino Con you want to tell us about this? >> Yeah, this actually is a annual routine authorization basically as a part of the end closing by board authorized this resolution. We designate the county of education to do the budget transfer so that in the year end process we will have enough money for each account to cover our obligation. So we also um specifically share with county how the transfer the sequential transfer it will come from object code first and register object code first and uh
later on go to the unassign fund banks they assign their um their uncommitted fund. >> Any further comments or questions from anybody go ahead and call for the vote student board member. >> Yes. >> And for everybody else please say I >> I motion carries 5. Thank you. Moving on to item 28, which calls for approval of a notice of a completion completion for purchase and installation of a scoreboard marquee at Temple City High School awarded to ABV scoreboard services and um just a comment. Is that scoreboard down there by the football stad? Okay. So, I need a a motion and a second. So member motion from member second comments or questions about that >> I can answer any question you need. >> Um so tonight with the approval of the notice of completion for
the scoreboard and the marquees with ABV um it is a legal document that you'll be seeing me in couple for the next couple weeks, but um a legal document that uh gives us a um end of a project. When we file that with the county, it lessens the timeline that a subcontractor can place a lean on the district. Um so this formalizes the end of the project once filed with the with the county. Um, in this one, in this case, we are asking for the scoreboard and marquee project to be filed with the county. >> Thank you, Anthony. >> Beautiful. >> I was just gonna I was gonna say I love the way it looks. >> Anthony, these are the two smaller ones. >> Yes. And it's a big package. It's the uh video wall
that we placed up um for football season or or in track season. Um and then the mares once we finished off the uh metal screening um allowed us to finish the project and adding those mares that you guys uh recently seen posted going northbound or southbound >> this morning alliance. Are they all tied in? Everything's tied in. >> Not yet. >> Okay. Just curious. Just curious. Great. >> Okay. Okay, I'm going to go ahead and call for the vote. Student board member. >> Yes. >> And for the rest of the board, all in favor, please say I. >> I. >> Motion carries 5. Thank you. Moving down to item 29, which is human resource services, which calls for approval of declaration of need for fully qualified educators. I have a motion and a second on
this, please. >> Motion from member Espinosa. >> Second from member Georgino. comments or questions, I guess. Any comments or questions? Okay, >> I'm going to go ahead and >> you always say something. >> If you have no comments, I'm good. I don't need >> So, as we enter the hiring season, um this is an annual requirement by the California Commission on Teaching Credentials. It's basically saying we need to hire qualified teachers, highly qualified teachers, credential teachers, but in case we don't, this is the prerequisite so that we could hire limited assignment teachers, emergency permits, or intern credential teachers um to fulfill our staffing needs. Um so it gives us that authority to do that. Thank you. Okay, with that, I'm going to go ahead and call for the vote. Student board member Munoz. >> Yes.
>> And for everybody else, please say I. >> I. I motion carries 5. That we're now on to the consent agenda which calls for routine items to be approved by one motion and one vote unless a member of the board or audience requests that any item be reviewed and voted upon separately. Is there anybody who wants to pull it for a separate vote? No. Okay. Then I'd like to get a motion to approve all the items in the consent agenda. So move Motion from member Bill, a second from >> I'll second and go ahead and take call for the vote. Preference vote student board member Munoz. >> Yes. >> Okay. And everybody else please say I. >> I. Motion carries 5. That we're down to board requests comments. Item 38. Does anybody have anything they
want to say here? >> I do. I lead. Um I want to kind of separate this part. Um, you know, I I want to say something to our high school science olympiad team and uh these 30 incredible kids that have been preparing and studying, spending un ungodly hours um you know because they they believed in this, they love this and um you know they they came to fight and they did so so well. I'm so so proud of all of them. I know how they are and I know how they feel and they are always striving for the best and in my in our eyes they are the best. So um and and I think they're just inspired to continue on. Um and also you know their season doesn't end um during competition because um
next Saturday on May 2nd we will be hosting the Division A tournament which is for the elementary kids and this will be our fourth year doing that. And I don't say this often but this The whole entire tournament runs on the side on on the high school team because they write all these tests. They plan the whole thing. They supervise all of it. That's 55 teams, about a thousand elementary school kids from fourth to sixth grade. Um and uh you know, this year we're really excited to uh try and host our awards ceremony um at the stadium. Uh and I'm I'm I'm turning to the gods. Um uh and we're excited to show off all these wonderful things that we have here, especially the new facility. Um I think it's it's an exciting uh moment.
It's a it's a great way for our team to close out the season and it is by far one of the most favorite things that they look forward to because they get to pay it forward and give it back to the younger generation. So, um that's all I have to say for that. Thank you. >> It's on May 2nd from 8 until noon. 55 teams, 1500. We're not counting. It's a lot of people. >> Yeah. >> Great. Thank you, Vincent. >> Yeah. >> Any other comments, questions from anybody? Go ahead and call for the adjournment. You have a motion in a second. >> There's no items. Okay. >> Yeah, that's the journey of the meeting. >> So, I have a motion in a second. That's what I was wondering what that was for. Okay. >>
Okay. So, >> motion member Espinosa. Second from the go ahead for the vote. Student board member Munoz. >> Yes. >> The rest of you. All in favor, please say I. >> I carries 54 13. Was that what you're looking at?
