Princess Ana Zoo and Prince Jyn Flores along along with Prince Elijah Espinosa. And then we have our queen and king. Queen Myella Garcia and King Dylan Werta. Unfortunately, one of our princess couldn't make it, Amelia. Um, so these are the children that were selected from a group of Temple City F first graders who participated in our play day we have annually this November. They were chosen based on how well they worked with others, followed directions, and demonstrated confidence. Each child also had an opportunity to answer questions using a microphone. As part of the royal duties, the court comes to visit and has special appearances throughout the
year like they have today. They participated in opening the carnival we had last weekend and they lead the Chamilleia Festival parade. I would like now to introduce our members of our committee who are present. We have Gina Aricio, Royal Court Governness, Don Tarin, festival director. I'm gonna wait a minute. can't compete. >> Okay, so now we're on to the portion of our agenda where there's public comments opportunities. I did receive a request from Jerry Jam Basin and you can either speak now or the specific item you want to address, you can >> probably better if you do it now if you don't mind. couple couple meetings ago, we talked about the bond issue and that's very near and dear to my heart uh because I worked on it in 2012 and like to see it happen again. But just a point of clarification, they talked about the amount that would be I
guess assessed per thousand of assessed value is assessed value 25% of the actual value of the home by the assessor. >> Okay. Because usually it's 25%. No, >> it depends on when you bought >> when your house was assessed. So maybe because you've been there for a long time. >> Yeah. >> Someone who bought their house last year. >> Okay. Or does Prop 13 have anything to do with it? >> Okay. And maybe that's the reason. Okay. Thank you. >> Thank you, Jerry. Okay. We're moving on to item 10, the unit comments. Start with 823. Okay. Thank you. Community updates. I don't have anything to item number 10 comments. As I mentioned, California School Employee Association 823 Ray Velasquez and moving down to Temple City Education Association TCPA. I don't see Oh, I can see
>> nothing to say though other than that. Okay, thank you. >> And then lastly, a California School Employee Association 105 this year. >> Okay, thank you very much. Okay, we're moving on then to district updates. Going first to business services, but Connie Woo is not here tonight, so we won't be hearing her. With that, we're going to move on to educational services. Stacy ears and Stacy will for us. >> Good evening board members. So this past week we held our professional development day on February 17th and all of our certificated staff was engaged in various workshops like um learning how to use AI in the classroom as well as learning about the new social studies um resources that we've provided for elementary. many of them engaged in PLC's and then Susanna even provided some workshops
on how to use Canva and then our classified staff um engaged in various topics that was based on to their best practices to support their particular jobs but in particular we had things like deescalation of um serious behaviors. We also had some workshops on professionalism and communication. So, I just wanted to take a minute to say thank you to all of the teacher leaders and the principles um and district administrators that helped to organize that day. Um it was definitely a great event. And then also just wanted to say thank you to all of the students, staff, and families that participated in the Chameleia Festival Parade. Um it was a really beautiful day in general. The weather was just gorgeous and wanted to say congratulations to all of the students that were on the Chameleia
court. um and it was just a really strong representation of our TCUSD um program. So, it was great to be there. And then finally, just wanted to point out one more thing on the consent agenda this evening. Um we are asking for approval of purchasing 1,271 Chromebooks. Uh this will support our onetoone device refresh that we have um going on in our schools. And we want to make sure that the students have opportunities to access to the best working technology. And so, um, this is through the consent agenda, but wanted to make sure that you realize that this is through a piggyback bid process. And one of the things that you might notice is maybe some increased costs. And this is because of um some challenges in getting devices because of lack of microchips as
well as tariffs. Um, and so this is starting to drive prices up for our technology program. So, just wanted to point that out. But as we continue to monitor and prioritize new devices, um we hope that eventually these prices will go down in the future. Um but still wanted to show our commitment to one onetoone devices in the classroom. >> Great. Thank you, Stacey. Then moving on to human resource services. Richard, >> good evening. Um, this the 2627 employee of the year voting and selection process was completed last week. Um, I want to thank all of our TCUSD staff who recognized and nominated their colleagues for the contributions they make that go beyond their job description as well as making a meaningful and lasting impact across the entire district community and for our students. I'd
also like to recognize all of our staffs who were nominated. Um, thank you for the amazing work you do for TCUSD to support our students and our communities. Um, So, I'd like to congratulate our classified honores. So, Benjamin Woo, Railen Wilkerson, Shaunie Downing, Angela Consolita, Diana Alvarez, Wendy Monso, and Gail Misano. And I'd also like to recognize our certificated honores, um, Elizabeth Speaks, Roxanna Pñena, Helen Laughlin, Syra Hernandez, Jesse Ying, Jimmy Yu, and Balmore Pana. So within all that, I'd like a special recognition to our district-wide honores for the exemplary service they provide to our students and staffs. So our certificated district employee of the year is Belmore Peneda from the high school. And our classified district employee of the year is from the district office is Railen Wilkerson. Um I am so excited for
for all of them who were nominated um and whose name was recognized tonight, but also for everyone else who was nominated. Um it was nice to see how we nominate each other and so it was a it was really like enlight not enlightening it was very um uplifting to see how many people were recognized. So that's it for me. >> Okay. Thank you Richard. With that moving then to board member comments. Start first with member. >> All right. Well it's been a busy time. Um, I attended the coronation for the Chameleia Festival, which is always so much fun because, as you saw, the children are just adorable. I also did some binge uh sports watching. I saw a couple of the girls water polo uh games, girls basketball, and boys soccer. Um, and I just
want to congratulate all of them. They all uh went into CIF at various degrees and uh they really represented Temple City High School well. Uh I attended Founders Day. Um I also at I was invited to go to Emperor. the uh one of the teachers um Reanessa Lopez did a panel on the history of Temple City and she invited me to uh sit on that panel and from what I understand the children are going to take the information that they learned and they're going to do some kind of openhouse project. So I'm looking forward to seeing what they do. I attended Temple City National Little League their opening day. Um, let's see. Yesterday I went to Temple City High School to see the ELD program do their lunar uh new year. And uh today I
went to Emperor and saw their first grade patriotic assembly which some of the royal court was in that and they were really cute. And Matt's grandson was Abraham Lincoln. Yeah, he was really good. Uh last night I went to the state of the city and um it was um the city was very complimentary of the school. So and of our partnership. So that was really good to see. And then of course I spent the whole weekend at the Chamilleia parade or Chamilleia festival and the parade. It was a great weekend. Um I did want to thank uh Daryl Depalion for um getting us cars for our employees of the year, the district employees of the year. Um, that was very helpful. And, um, since you mentioned who the winners are, you can tell them to
put February 27th, uh, 2027 on their calendar because they will be invited to be in next year's parade. Uh, I want to congratulate the Oak Avenue Science Olympiad team. They won the Analopee Valley Regional Championship. Congratulations, Jordan. That's just amazing. And I'm really proud of all those kids. Um, and then our TCHS flags were in a competition where they placed uh first. Um, and then another one where they placed second and third and our song placed first in a competition and our winner percussion placed first in a competition. So, Temple City out is out there doing some great things. Uh, I wanted to remind everybody Friday is the last day to purchase a legacy brick for Temple City High School. Um, the last round I purchased some per for me personally and then this round
I purchased one for the class of 75. Um, so you don't want to be left out. Um, make sure you get your purchase your brick. Um, I bought my tickets to the musical. I'm very excited, Elias. And I I after especially after seeing the road show, it really gets me excited. Um, so I'm looking forward to that. And then I also wanted to mention Friday is Emperor is celebrating their 75th birthday. The school is 75 years old. Uh and they're having an event um from 5 to 7 at Emperor. That's it for me. Thank you. >> Thank you. We're going to move on now to members Espinosa Melissa. >> All right. Thank you. Um good evening everybody. Um I wanted to start by start off by wishing our community a happy year of the fire.
wishing everyone peace and prosperity this lunar new year. Um I also want to congratulate the chamele they did a wonderful job representing the city and parents should be really proud. It's fun to have them here. Um like fellow board member Georgino talked about you just how well our students are performing at every school level. Um you know we had a person I think she's from the high school Victoria winning Ideal California team. We had Pep coming in first place in a recent competition. Um winter percussion first place. Um and congratulations to all of the sports teams who made it to CIF. I know there was boys soccer, girls and boys basketball, um girls water polo. I mean just congratulations. Everybody's performing at a high level. Um, I also wanted to say how excited I am
to celebrate Arts Education Month. That is this month and we're going to be voting on that today. Um, and what better way to celebrate than going to the musical. Um, and so please get your tickets to go see Little Mermaid. Uh, I know I will be there cheering on performers and um, just just a great time to uh, celebrate some really honored tradition. I also want to congratulate all the employees of the year. Um that's a great honor and to you know nominate your fellow employees, your co-workers, your colleagues. Um we don't get enough time to really you know sit back and talk about you know positive things about each other and so you know this is a great time to celebrate that and just the camaraderie to have these nominations from your peers. So
congratulations. Um And then lastly on a oh sorry attendance attendance um since our last meeting I did attend the founders day event which was very nice congratulations to our PTA for putting on a great event. Um and then I attended the Chamilleia parade and the state of the city address yesterday. And then on a personal note since I'm here on the day of my daughter's Alexa's birthday I want to wish her a very happy birthday. Love you very much. Very proud of you. and hope you have a good one. >> Thank you, Melissa. >> Okay, with that, we're moving now on to member Bill and somebody else. >> All right. Okay. Hi. Hi, everyone. Uh, I want to echo the comments of my fellow board members. Congratulations to all of our Temple City Unified certificated
and classified staff honores. Some of those names, we've seen them before and they're, you know, every one of them are uh part of the foundation of what makes Temple City uh who we are as a community and and and and we uh are looking forward to celebrate with all of you. Um and yes, uh our our our sports program, every single one of them, uh getting a chance to experience uh CIF playoffs, I think it's wonderful. I think they all had a wonderful season and want to congratulate all of them as well. Um and of course yes PTA and founders day again another you know foundation piece to who we are and I want to congratulate to all the honories and being recognized and and and that is so important that that we take the
time to do that to recognize everyone who's contributed so much to building who we are here um in the district. Um and uh you know the Chameleia Festival uh organizers and the way they've always supported the community, our student groups. Um you know uh Mr. Dr. Kuna here for being our honorary grand marshal. Um personally I was really happy he was able to ride down in one of our solar car vehicles. Um I I I that was a highlight for me. Um, and uh, glad to see more of our students getting involved, being part of all the booths and activities and learning how to support themselves, which is which is which is a wonderful thing. And um, you know, I got a chance to look at the art show that was at the media center
um, at length because um, uh, I watch over the science Olympiad kids when they do their study sessions and you know, it's it's like a gallery moment. I'm just taking my time. I've got all night. Incredible work. Incredible, incredible work. Um, so you know, at one point I that's kind of what I did when I was a student here. I was an art student and so I have a deep appreciation for the work that we see and there's an emotion to the things to the the visual arts that I see whether it's a ceramic piece they make or is an illustration just the talent beyond the technical part. It's how they convey, how they express themselves. That's that's that's what really kind of captured me. Um, and okay. And yeah, and I want to uh
wish everyone a happy Lunar New Year. Um, you're the fire horse, which uh really means uh a lot of uh intense passion, emotion, transformation. That's, you know, uh with every single one of these animals, there's usually a one of the four elements that go with it. um water, uh fire, um air and wood or land. So, and this year happens to be fire. So, you know, we're looking forward to maybe great things here at Temple City. Um and speaking of fire, now I come to my STEM report. Um and um so I do want to congratulate Oak Avenue. Uh they've punched their ticket to state competition in a month, so we look forward to that. Um and I think they did an outstanding job up there. Um, our high school team has been uh competing
uh since our last meeting. They were at Stanford. Uh, they finished fourth uh overall. Um, and you know, that number doesn't really reflect who and what they are. Outside the fact that, you know, I'm pretty confident to say in public that they are the best team in LA County. Um, that uh but beyond that, I think they've come so far uh being that they are a studentled program. Um and uh just last Saturday they competed at uh UCSD and they came in uh second place. Uh again they're they're punching with the heavyweights now. So it's really nice to see. This Saturday we are going to be at Rioondo College hoping to punch our ticket to uh state competition which will be sometime in early April. And that's it for me this evening. Thank you very
much. >> Great. Thank you Vincent. We're moving on now to member Sne. Thank you very much. Okay. Um I also attended the Patriot Assembly at Ember this morning. Can't beat a cute little second. They were absolutely adorable. They they did a beautiful job of saying poems and singing songs. It's just absolutely a wonderful start to the morning. After that, I went over to Cloverly and had their spirit their monthly spirit assembly and it was started with a group put together by J from the kung fu acting star academy. She actually has worked in movies. She has her own academy and she taught in three classes she taught this group of students how to do kung fu moves and they put on a whole amazing show but they they were celebrating Lunar New Year. They were
celebrating Black History Month. They were celebrating the students of the month for character. It was just a wonderful morning for the students for all of our Cloverly Cups. They really did it. And the dance group came out. There was just a little bit of everything for whatever you wanted to see. You saw it at this morning. You saw it also. Um last night I did attend the state of the city event. Um I'm glad that we have such a a good working relationship with the city. It works for the benefit not only of our students and their families, but also the community at large. I think it's really important that the city and the and the district are the two largest employers in the city and the fact that we work so well together really
benefits everybody in city. Congratulations to the Oak Avenue Science Olympia team at the high school again. very quickly Victoria who is a new ideal California team. Also to congratulations to all of our students who competed the flags perussion teams and all of our sports teams who advanced so high this year. Congratulations also to all of our employees of the year as a very huge honor especially since it comes from your fellow Whether you're a teacher or whether you're classified employee, it means a lot to get the recognition from your employees. Thank you again, Jerry, for us the month for students of the month. Um, I also attended the founders day that PJ did just a really great job and all the schools really gave a very short bio why they were honoring their people and
it was just great to see how much how import our district. Um, yes, I and I spent a lot of time at the festival this weekend, not because we want we just really like festivals, but we're both on the committee and it was nice to see our students coming in to the bank and they were they were working very hard. We had lots of foods from with from some of your students and also game. They really they were there all weekend. And um I want to acknowledge our um well the festival committee just they really put a lot of work into making this a great thing every February. But I want to acknowledge I'm the float chairman. So I want to acknowledge two floats. One um from our students, one from Long was built by
their ASV and they went sweep stakes with Tiger And we also had other students who are cub scouts and they got best use of chameleas for community of chameleas. Then Cloverly also had a mini float and they got a nice trophy for their really a darling float built on a wagon holding the work. So, thank you to everybody who came out over the weekend and I'm glad we've had so many groups from our schools walking in the parade. It's just a really big part of seeing how important our schools are in our community. There were big groups all the elementary schools just walking down the crowd. >> Thanks, Mary. And then uh two things just real quickly I want to add to my board member Pierce statements and whatnot. Um first um one of the
things that Cynthia Sternquist mentioned in the um in her board last night was that we're going to be having a joint um board meeting and city council meeting coming up in March. And that is the plan. It was something we set a date for I guess a year ago and And so now we need to get together and develop an agenda and open that up. So I think that's a really good the relationship the school board has with the city wasn't always that great when we got together and we fixed it and this meeting I'm talking about coming up in March will be part of that. So want to make that clear to everybody. And then lastly, I just wanted to say thank you on behalf of the board to all of the individuals and
organizations who donated $20,000 uh to the district. Um most of that came from the Temple City Schools Foundation, which is about 19,000 and the remainder was from various individuals and so that's all very much appreciated as well. Okay, with that I'm going to move on to student board member comments. member, student board member Xavier Munes. What do you have for us? >> Okay. Good evening everyone. Um, I would like to start off by congratulating our girls basketball, boys soccer, boys basketball, and girls water polo teams for all making it to their CIF playoffs. I think this really shows just how dedicated and driven our Temple City High School students are. Um, last weekend we also had our 82nd Chameleia Festival. Um, this was another great Chameleia Festival. I wanted to Special shout out to our
own Oak Avenue band and auxiliaries for winning first place in auxiliary drill and band. And then one of my favorite parts of the Chameleia Festival was getting to see a sorry was getting to was getting to see a sneak peek of our TCHS musical. Um, everyone did such a really good job, especially um Ursula. That was my favorite part. And then tickets are available right now for March 13th through the 16th. And then um at the beginning of February, we had um our high school hosted our annual eighth grade showcase where our eighth graders from Oak come to our high school. And I think this was one of probably like one of our best um eighth grade showcases we have ever done. Everything was utopia themed and our high school students really went with this
really seen all over campus um in their rally um in their link crew groups and just so much more. And I thought it was just such a great um theme. And our Temp High School indoor drum line had a competition on February 15th at Rancho Manga and they placed first and they are um at a competition again this weekend, March 1st at Monrovia High School. So I hope to wish them the best of luck. And tomorrow is also eighth grade parent night at Temple City High School and our Temple City High School counselors and administration will be going over all the important info to help your child succeed into entering their high school career. So I hope to wish them good luck too. That's all for me. >> Thank you. With that, we're going to
move on to Superend. Uh so many of the things that you all said I would like to echo but uh I won't repeat them all. Um I would like to wish all of our families a happy Lunar New Year. Also I would like to uh congratulate our employees of the year. Uh there are a lot of very deserving individuals um as well as the ones that we recognized. Um, and I think that's a good place for us to be uh to have so many people that would be worthy of recognizing uh with that honor. I also uh attended the state of the city address last night and I just want to give a shout out to uh Mia MCA who you guys should know. She is a sixth grade student at Cloverly and she did
the uh national anthem a capella and it was beautiful. Um, so I fully anticipate seeing her in the future. Um, I also uh want to share a little story that I heard uh today. Uh, I went to uh our first track meet uh that we are hosting and I was talking to um Kevin Slatterie who used to uh help coach track and he was sharing with me that uh the last time we hosted a track meet was about 10 years ago. And the reason we hosted that track meet about 10 years ago was because um everybody was upset that we were never hosting a track meet and they came to our track meet and you can see that in 10 years they never asked us to host another one. And um like it it really
does my heart good to see the number of students we had out on the track today. like it it was it was awesome. Um there was so much going on. Thanks Matt Lopez for making sure I was out there and for taking on the task of of u you know coaching track and Chris Cunningham and um you know Jerry Jerry Lawrence was out there helping out today. Kevin was out there. Um and we had uh who was Bill Martin was out there. Yes. Um, and so, uh, I must have seen probably 15 kids, uh, doing pole vault. And, you know, it's one of those things where many of them, this is the first time they're doing pole vault. Um, but if we didn't have the facilities and the equipment, they would never have that opportunity
to try. And we talk all the time about providing opportunities for our students. And I think we miss sometimes, you know, the athletic side of it, too. Um, and so we had a lot of students who are just trying things for the first time and and who knows where it takes, you know, any one of them, but they were all smiles. They were all happy and and I'm just really really glad to see that our our facilities are being put to good use. That's it. Thank you, Art. that we're moving on to written communications and I have not received >> Okay. Um so uh second quarter 2025 to 26 fiscal year we have results of site visits revenues and uniform complaint intermediate and so um this is a what we received in the way of
a letter from directing us to compliment us for what we did. So specific words that are important are enclosed in the second quarterly report the fiscal year 202526. The purpose of the visit as specified in EC 1240 was to determine if there is an facility condition that poses an emergency or urgent threat to the health or safety of people or staff. And if such an emergency or urgent threat is found revisit up to 30 days to verify repairs. Okay. I'm going to intermediate announce fac on November 5th, 2025 received a good facility. All right. Now, we're moving on to discussion information item of which we have none. So, then we're moving now to discussionaction agenda. Starting first with the area of administration item number 16 calls for a motion to approve, nominate, and approve the
California Association delegate assembly election for two board delegates in the area and there were there are four different people who submitted. One is a current person holding the title. So we need to go through and select the two that we would like to vote on. We have to actually vote on both candidates at the same time. So we can't take vote on one person to take a vote. same person. We have to do everything together at the same time both. So with that, I guess I will open up the floor and ask if anybody would like to nominate >> I was reading over their biosyber district. I was just really impressed with her background and also recognition of what is important to us all districts. I guess I'll ask for a second on that right
now. Is there a second to support? >> I'll second. >> Well, then you'll have two motions and two seconds. >> Uh, no. I'm just going to take the motion on looking for both before >> Okay. So, I apologize. >> Well, I'll just say I read them and they all seem good. So, yeah. Um I'll nominate um Nativea Fared of Glendale since we already again and I can be talked out of it but >> okay now we have two candidates and now I'm gonna ask for second on those two candidates three and Emily have Oh, I thought >> All right, let's start over. >> Start over. >> I need a motion and a second. >> Nominate those two people. >> Yes. >> Okay. I move that we nominate Emily Dr. Emily Weisber and I'll second motion
from members and second from aheadial vote from member Muno. >> Yes. >> Okay. And all in favor please say I. I >> I heard 5 motion carries. Okay, moving on to item 17, which calls for a motion to adopt resolution 2526 March 2026 as arts education month. We have a motion. I'll second questions. Uh I will say that uh member Espinosa put it very well in her comments and we have two individuals in our crowd here uh who are very influential in uh promoting the arts in Temple City. And so I just wanted to say thank you to both of them for everything you do for our students. I think very well deserved that we recognize uh arts month in the month of March. I'm going to go ahead and call the vote. >> Yes.
>> Please say I member. >> Yes. >> Member. >> Yes. >> Member Georgina. >> Yes. >> Member Bill. >> Yes. We are moving on to item number 18 which calls for a motion to receive board policy for first meeting. Those are items are BP 1445 terminate enforcement a new policy BP 5125 student records BP 5125.1 directory information and BP 5145.13 which is actually policy that will be considered for deletion. So there any comments anybody wants to make before we Second question officer. Yes. So >> So it is two different pieces. Um yes, they are supposed to have a judicial warrant, but if they insist to move past an individual, what they're saying is do not impede. Um, like none of our staff should be throwing themselves in front of law enforcement to prevent them from
going on. But realistically, there is a procedure for it. There is they should be calling uh the administrator. They should be calling the district office. We should be contacting attorneys, everything else. But what they don't want employees to do is put themselves in harm's way. >> I know I know when this first came up earlier in the school year that you had talked about the procedures that district that the the office staff had been given they needed procedures. >> Yes. Yes. And it's still the same still the same procedures. It's just uh we don't want people to think that they should confront law enforcement. If law enforcement chooses to, you know, hopefully everybody will abide by the policies that are in place. either have a judicial warrant or they will come back with one. Um
but you just never know with some individuals how they will act. Um and so that is the reason for that. >> Thank you. Thank you for >> we've also got this is the first meeting so coming back at our next meeting but there's something. >> Okay. So, I have a motion and a second to approve. >> Motion to member Espinosa. >> Second. >> Oh, sorry. Yes. >> Everybody else, please say I >> I carries. Moving on to item number 19, which calls for motion to receive board policy for second reading and approve. These items are BP0450 comprehensive safety plan 5116.1 district open enrollment and BP 5117 interist attendance. So motion for member bill second. Are there any comments or questions about this? Go ahead and call me. >> Yes. >> Please say I support. Moving
on to the category of educational services, which calls for a motion to approve the proposed elective at Oak Avenue Intermediate Intro to Music Theater. Yes, Principal Leam is here and would just like to share an overview of this potential new course that we are hoping that you will consider for approval for the 26 27th school year. Um, as you all know, we received Prop 28 funds and it has been a continue to a desire of the district to continue to grow our arts program. And so um this is one of the newest ideas that we have uh that he would like to present to you. >> Yes. Thank you. And I propose that this is when March FA month is being recognized. So it's right in all perfectly. So um yes, we know especially with
the information of Prop 28 money um elementary schools are really taking off with this and there's this program at the high school and there's nothing nothing more that I want to make Elias look good. So nowap's gap in the in the middle school program. So we wanted to to bridge that gap. Um and I think all at this table will recognize that you know I'm I'm not the VA expert and I think Lacy scale is here to put this together. Um, and I know there's a lot of you who were at the performance, the dance performance we had right before winter break and we had our dance club that came about and after only about four or five meetings, you saw their performance and it was just truly exceptional and that's what spearheaded this idea
to make it a permanent class. There you go. So, uh, here's quick course overview. Um, it's a performance-based class in musical theater. Uh students will be introduced to the singing, acting and dance basics. Um they will use this time the class time for rehearsals and really focus on the skill building and authenticity in a supportive and safe environment. Um so we will weave this into our DAPA course offerings and we have this as another avenue that students can choose as an elective. Um, and we work this into our master schedule. And again, one of the most important things is to bridge the gap between our elementary programs and our high school programs. Uh, we want to be able to have that seamless integration. Um, and this class will provide for that that readiness to high
school for the theater, musical theater. Yes, we know Elias does an amazing job and we've already got our tickets for the St. Gabriel Mission Playhouse. We want to be able to support that and our students in even a better place. Um, you know, why theater? I mean, we all know in Temple City, uh, the arts are so important and, you know, our students excel. Um, but you know, we all know this. This builds collaboration and teamwork. Strength is communication. You really see see the students blossom. And I know for me personally um knowing some of those students who were performing that night in that club like I saw some students in just a completely different light. I've seen some students that were you know so quiet around campus, so quiet in class and then they're
up on stage just singing their hearts out and dancing and their movements and it's it truly shows that when you're given an opportunity, you know, STEM or science may not be your thing. Um athletics your thing, but you have this gift and this goal in you to shine in another light and we really want to provide that opportunity. And like I said, there's a couple of students specific out of my obviously never mentioned names up here, but it's like I can't like just I was just blown away at seeing them like seeing them shine in a way that I've not seen them in straight academic setting or in another avenue on campus. Um, as everything we need to align it to our school goals and with us, you know, our royal three, compassion, take responsibility
is always paramount in our PBIS program and what we're recognized for. Um, how does this fit in? I mean, it fits in seamlessly. Again, compassion. It promotes respectful and inclusive collaboration. Um, integrity. You can see the students taking ownership of their roles and their practice time and responsibility, the commitment they show to do their rehearsals, to learn their parts and to have that each piece of it come together in teamwork. So again, it's it goes right in with our deep core school values. It's another avenue to integrate that into our school. And what do we want to do besides just having it as a in-class elective? We want to be able to provide more performances. Um so you know, we haven't done in the last years is have our, you know, we always kind of,
you know, have this, you know, it's funny when I first started this cloverly dance club contest or show, but then our students are there and then there's, you know, the coral show and our students have, you know, two numbers in it. like, you know, this could help us provide more of an opportunity for our students to perform and have our own performances that our students can take ownership in um celebrate their their achievements and strengthen their community and their pride and partnerships. Um and then really I wanted to get through that because I mean I know we all you know how deeply rooted uh Temple City Theater and Arts is. Um it really was best let's let's hear from the students. So we have just a short put together where you can see what this
means to our students and how excited they are to bring on campus. And I have no doubt if it was approved the the numbers and the enrollment would be overwhelming. My name is >> I like musical theater because I feel like it's bringing me closer to so many people that I'm not friends with and the class itself is like really welcoming and it makes me feel like at home. This class is important to me because it tells a special story and it helps me feel really myself others. I love this class because I made new friends and I feel like I can myself. every week to look forward to just terrified to go on stage to do anything. musicar people there. has changed my life because many more confident informing you know at the same
time I love I'm so grateful to be one of your students and I get this opportunity deliver professional development on my staff, we all know I did not make that presentation. nor do I have the technical skill to put that video together. So again, thank you Miss Gandlin for for doing that. And again, it's a little less personal story from that group that was just there. So one of those students who again was one of those you see in the beginning of the year, seventh grader kind of in her shell and she had that barrel if you heard that the big smile and all this. And that class helped her come out of her shell so much. She actually ran for an ASB office and gave a speech in front of 850 students at our
last assembly. And she had told me that she's like that's nothing I would have done before. I cannot imagine being up there with that kind of attention. But it was this class and this club and those beginning performances that brought that out of her and gave her the confidence to do that. So as you heard, they all look forward to it every Friday. But how about offering this every day for them to make this a part of their schedule. >> Will this class be open to both seventh and eighth graders? >> Yes. >> I appreciate the fact this is not the first class you brought forward to the board for approval. So, I really appreciate the fact that that you and your staff are looking you see you see a need for our students and
you create something to help them realize their potential. So, I appreciate your work. I know you you have a big hand in putting this class together, but I appreciate all the work that's gone into this tonight. >> Absolutely. Thank you. >> Are there any other comments or questions? Go ahead and call a motion second. >> Yes. >> Thank you. We got registration start in a few weeks. We'll get >> Let's get those course requests in. >> Thank you. to see you on the stage. So we're now moving on to item 21, acceptance of proposals and award of contract resulting from RFP number 2526-002 network equipment 267. >> Yes. Um, Jesus Velasquez, our director of technology, is just going to give you a quick summary about this new contract. >> Good evening, Board of Education, Dr.
Kuna, and Executive Cabinet. Um, this item is our annual Chromebook refreshment uh for student devices. We do this every year and the idea is that we have devices that are reliable, secure, and ready for instruction for our students. This time we're bringing this earlier than usual because as Dr. Ayers mentioned before there is a global shortage of computer processors and memory and our manufacturers actually warned us that all the prices are going to be going up between 10% to 30% on March 1st. >> Um so we did all all the requirements that we need to do for these kind of purchases. We met with the manufacturers with different vendors to be able to get the best pricing and actually we found a vendor that is actually locking down all those devices for us. So, if
we get this approved tonight, the idea is that we're going to be avoiding those price hikes and of course always thinking on being responsible with our district funds. >> And then, Moises, can you speak a little bit about the network equip equipment funding contract that you're putting forward as well? >> Yes. Um, so, um, right now we are under our federal fund rate cycle and it's starting. So, we're going to be having um three small projects for right now and they include some equipment for the stadium that we need there. Um we also are going to be switching our firewall um because it's been almost a decade that since we switch our the one we have and this is a big project and we're very excited about it. And the last one is we're going
to be buying um some switches for some classrooms that have switches inside that are very noisy. So we're going to be testing some fanless switches which are going to be reducing the amount of noise for inside the classrooms teachers and students. So that's the project. Um you know I just want to add to that uh not that I'm any expert on that but uh there has been a global shortage on memory primarily and that's driving prices up like crazy and uh you can blame a number of different factors and advanced technologies that you know some of us may know certain acronyms. Um but in general though um you know what uh Mr. Velasquez is proposing is actually very sound in my opinion because um uh that Chromebooks are low resource uh devices that still allow
a lot of our students to access uh information through the web which is critical. Um and of course we have more advanced students at the high school that require more but I want to say this really helps at the lower levels a lot as well. Um, so thank you for that um proposal. Um, and yeah, it was 10 years ago, huh? The firewalls. >> Yeah, >> I think I remember that. Okay. Um, yeah, thank you for that. Yeah, I just want to say that that's a a really really good choice. >> Just one quick comment. Thank you for looking at this from the financial aspect and being good stewards of our um, money or limited funds. Um, the world is crazy. So, I appreciate you looking out for that. >> Motion. >> Yes. support. >>
Moving on to item 22 in the area category of human resource services. Item 22 calls for approval of TCOD instructional calendar for the 2027 202. This is probably the hardest thing I've done since I moved HR little boxes. So, there was a lot of effort placed into this. Both myself and Art and Stacy and Elias. Um Denise was involved a little bit on the back end. Janette before that. So, it is really looking at our calendar and then going by the instructional calendar side going with um the collective bargaining agreement with TCA as the start date and then making everything smooth flow smoothly. So, we're done sometime in May. Um what you have in front of you is are all of our holidays, minimum days, um really our time off for our students. And so
it has to hit 180 instructional days and 184 days for our teachers. Comments, questions for ahead and a second to approve, please ahead of the vote starting first. >> Yes. >> Say I consent agenda. I have a motion and a second. I'll move I'll second. Are there any comments or questions about anything? >> Yes. >> I support. >> Yes. Sorry. Moving now to the board request comments section comments they like to make this time motion. You were going to do >> Oh, yes. You're right. So, unfortunately, some sad news >> Sears former teacher teacher retired but unfortunately she passed away second member. >> Yes. Please say I support. >> I 647 48
