001hello I'm here to tell you about the school-based youth services program at the CATE May County Technical High School we have a full team of people here we have Vicki our art therapist CC Our Youth Development Specialists Marie another Youth Development specialist who does the substance use education and Kim Moore our program secretary we' like to sum it up that school Bas is here to help you reach your goals we do that through Recreation education assistance counseling and basically we do everything under the sun to help your student graduate healthy and drug- free the recreation pre piece our trips are designed to get kids out and about in nature while getting some exercise we do things like skiing snowboarding hiking rock climbing Billiards trips to New York City kaying paddle boarding un name it we
002do all sorts of things as soon as this pandemic is over we'll be out and about again and hitting the world education we cover all kinds of topics we'll go into the health classes we just worked with freshman to do skill building in terms of negotiation skills how to avoid High School drama we um just did presentations for DUI prevention in the driver's ed classes so we do all sorts of great topics throughout the year The Game of Life we hold Every Spring um we have about over 60 agencies that that come and kids can find out about getting a social security car card renting a car versus buying a car how to get a bank account all sorts of life skills we really try to make our educational pieces interactive assistance if you need
003assistance with food if there's a house fire if you need something that's going to help you with employment um a homecoming prom dress any sort of random needs please feel free fre to pick up the phone and if we can assist you we can we may be able to connect you with somebody who can so don't hesitate to ask for whatever it is that you might be needing the counseling piece of it we do individual counseling family counseling peer mediations it's all completely free completely confidential we can do treatment plans and connect youth with Psychiatry if it's at that level and that is necessary much of what we do though is basically you know just supportive counseling for kids having a rough day or if there's grief or loss in the family or um you
004know it doesn't have to be deep kids can come in for a small things big things stress about 2020 or any number of things that are happening this year our doors are always open hope is the last piece in terms of reaching your goals and really that's the key is to help youth to have hope hope for post-graduation plans employment plans you know how can we how can we assist them with their with their goals in the grownup world after graduation this is a picture from one of our trips to the Delaware Outlets so um not all of our our our Recreation is exercise based sometimes we just go out for the fun of it and for the fun of building a um building our community and getting connected to one another this is Broadway
005New York City we've gone every year um we we started a Tech in 2006 and so we've gone to see all kinds of great shows through the years volunteer Club is going to get started again via Zoom so please let us know if you're interested or if you have any great ideas for things that we can do this year typically we've gone Caroline we've done River cleanups cleanups in the community uh food drives filling the local food pantries the open art studio is going to kick off again via Zoom we're going to be giving out um supplies that kids can take home with them when the pandemic's over we'll be back in person for art open Art Studio the community Lea is on board we love to have parents involved so if you'd like to
