All in favor, please say I. >> I. >> Any opposed, please say nay. Hearing none, it passes. Next items for presentation, we've got school update and school accountability report card. Principal Schmid. >> All right. Well, good evening. Um, first off, I want to say thank you to Miss John for filling in for me last month. Um, I couldn't make it and she uh I know she did a
005great job and I'm sure it was nice to have a different face. Um but yeah, so to kind of start off um kind of give you some updates on things that we've talked about and also some things to come. Um we talked about thinking maps a lot. Um so our next training for our staff is kind of keep you in the loop is this technically this is training number three. Um is actually tomorrow after school. So it's going to be online zoom uh but our teachers are going to be trained for a couple hours about the next stages of implementation. Uh we've also worked with our staff to kind of plan out the roll out with their classes. Um and then we're going to have parent messaging going out starting this week about the thinking
006maps just so that way um as we're working with the students in class, the teachers are working with their students. Also our school community is aware of what's going on. So it's just a way to keep them informed. Um I know it's about a month away, but we have our Chinese New Year celebration um coming up on February 12th. Um and so Miss Jong has been working with PTO on this. Um so we have a special all school assembly. We're planning to have it outside on the blacktop. Uh this is as I recall since I've been here, it's the first time where we've had an assembly with all our students. So we'll have about 600 students out there. We're going to have some special performances. Um there's also a parent um potluck after that with
007the students in the classes. So that's a way to kind of bring in the parents into that celebration. And kind of leading up to that, we do have a Chinese New Year spirit, school spirit week that week. So our middle school leadership class has been planning that um and so they'll be communicating that out. So we have all these different um components to that and so we're we're planning for our Chinese New Year there. Just giving you an update on our after school. Um our second session of the year um is actually going to end on March 6th. Um, our next round of signups will begin on February 11th. And just to kind of update you because we talked about this before with Strategic Kids, um, they are now adding a Spanish class and a
008Mandarin class in addition to our Lego clay art and chess classes. So, just a way to offer additional afterchool um, opportunities for our students. I know Spanish was in demand by parents. Um, there was also some demand for Mandarin. Um, and so that information is actually going to be going out tomorrow to our families. Um, we're going to be getting some flyers from Strategic Kids as well. Um, so that's kind of giving you an update where our after school program is at. Moving on, um, I know you got an update on our gate program last month, but just letting you know next week on Thursday, we do have a parent workshop to discuss our gate program and our roll out with our families. So, this is obviously um open to our current would be fourth
009and fifth grade students this year, but it's also we encourage all a lot of families who are interested to learn about our gate program and what we're doing with that. Um we've already had a monthly newsletter go out with our gate about our gate program. It's on our website, but this is kind of the next stage in that um gate roll out. We've also been prepping for our authorizer visit next week. Um, we were we just talked about again in our cabinet meeting, but we should be ready to go. We're excited about that. We have students leading tours. We have a a presentation that I'm going to be kind of giving our OCD updates on on our numbers as a school and different interviews set up with our teachers and staff. So, we're good. Um,
010also this week we have a coffee with the principal. Um, and so the focus for this coffee with the principal on Thursday is looking at our I Ready scores for our middle of the year benchmark. So our students took their benchmark in December. Um, so now I'm going to kind of be looking at the our student performance data with that as well as comparing that to last year just so our families can see where we're at and how our students are performing. And then also that same day um there is a curriculum next curriculum committee after coffee with the principal um related to our comprehensive sexual health um curriculum and um those those steps there. Any questions so far for because that's kind of where we're at as a school. Um our next slide is
011going to be talking about the school accountability report card. So good. All right. So, the school accountabilility report card, it's actually on the agenda. It's something that you're going to approve tonight. Um, it's kind of stated there though that since November 1988, schools who received state funding are required to prepare prepare what's called a SARKC. Really, what this is is it provides information about the school in one comprehensive area. So, we have things like our test scores, our attendance rates, our demographics, uh, our teacher salary. I mean, there's a lot of information on there. What the SARC does is it takes all that information, kind of puts it on one page. Um, and it's easy to find for families if they want to find out information about our school. So, our SARC is linked on
012our website for previous years. Um, once you guys approve it, it will, this new SARC will be on there. Um, this SARKC is for last school year. So, you're approving the 2024 2025 SARC. Um so again it talks about demographic data our school safety and climate for learning academic data has class size information on there teacher staff information it has our curriculum listed it has our facilities review um the facil these reviews provided by IUSD and this some fiscal information u predominantly our kind of our range of our teacher salaries and how much we spend per pupil per student in our school. So that's the SARKC that's going to be on the agenda. It's there for you. We have a draft prepared. Um but once upon your approval, then we post it and we go
013from there. Just kind of want to open up if there's any questions about the start. There should be no surprising information on there as most of that information has been presented to you guys before, presented to our families before, but it's really kind of putting it in one one simple area for families to find. Okay. And looking ahead, there's a lot going on. Um, Thursday is a very busy day like I mentioned. So, we have our coffee with the principal curriculum committee. Miss Jong also has her mandarin program advisory committee. Um, also myself, Dr. Henry, and some teachers on that afternoon are going to be going to Orange County Department of Education for a math materials fair to review some curriculum. We have that parent workshop. We have our Chinese New Year spirit week in
014celebration and then that will lead into our President's Day and Lunar New Year break and then we have our what's called kindness week coming back from that. So that's just kind of a snapshot of what's to come for the next month. All right, questions? All right, thank you Thank you very much. Okay, next we'll move to financial update. Mr. Miller, >> good evening everyone. How's everyone doing tonight? >> Great, thank you. How are you? >> I'm going to go ahead and share. Can everyone see this? Okay. >> Yes. in your >> Okay, sounds good. Well, I'm going to jump right in. Tonight, we've got the December financials. Um, so again, these are actuals from July 1 of this year to December 31st. So, this is just a quick snapshot, nice little bar graphs, but I'm
015just going to jump right into financials here. Um, this is as of again December 31st compared against our most recent budget. So, one thing note here is that the state revenue is currently under um by 445K due to a prior year revenue adjustment to ILPT. Um this is really what's kind of currently dragging down and why we're, you know, just around 4% under what we're expecting in terms of revenues. This money is a correction um for what was over acred last year. And to kind of put that into perspective, essentially at the end of every fiscal year, again, runs from July 1 to June 30th, um, IIAa actually gets paid after June 30th for funds they should have received in 20 in the prior fiscal year. So, for example, in July or August of this
016year, you'll get paid dollars that are really dollars for last year. Um, essentially, there was an over approval. So kind of the last team um that was here kind of acrewed too much. So we're just writing the books and and kind of um right sizing the books uh by the amount that was over accured. So on our books uh it looks like there's just this negative 445K. this is really accounting semantics um in terms of actual money you know that's in our bank account that it makes no uh it makes no difference really to what's currently in our bank account so I want want to make that clear so that's the state revenue other than that really good news um LCFF was slightly over I expect this trend to continue as uh February um you
017know February when P1 kicks in our our kind of a lotments will kick up uh local revenue was over significantly. This is something that will need to be adjusted at second in a row, but again, great news for IA. It kind of follows um trends of last year. Um on the expense side of things, you you guys had expenses of 3.8 million. Services came in over um came in just under, excuse me, um primarily in educational consultants. Books and supplies were slightly over, but again, to me, this was of no concern. um your current amount in u curriculum was significantly less than what we have budgeted finally. I I plan to take this down in second interim um with Dr. Men's approval and then personal expenses are around 170k over um we'll go ahead and
018adjust those projections in second interim. Um, so our net income was a deficit of 338K. Um, which really, you know, I think is a solid place to be for for this time here. So, any any questions on the actuals to budget here? >> Okay. >> Yeah. Yeah. >> So, this is net income is 338K. for almost 62% under current budget. >> Yep. >> So are you saying based on yeartoate current budget or for the year? >> Good question. So it's just year-to- date. So you know what I'm looking at here is kind of this is this is the unfun way to look at what I kind of just described which is just kind of the actuals here. I'm going to quickly describe what we're looking at here. So in this column is your actuals. So
019this is from July 1, start of the fiscal year to December 30. And then this is the budgeted amount which means this is what we budgeted from July 1 to December 30. And then you know part of my presentation is kind of going over the variances and seeing if there's anything that you know I feel I should call the board's attention. For instance in local revenue here which is like your guys's fundraising, the amount of money you get for field trips etc. you guys are over significantly what was budgeted. Uh we used the 14,000 that over budgeted um Dr. Henry and I at the start of the year and that's something that we'll definitely take up um at our second interim budget revision. So, you know, those kind of things are kind of what I
020what I discussed. So currently you guys do have a bigger deficit than we budgeted, but that's really only because in state revenue you'll see we have this negative 59,000 which is doesn't reflect actual financials for this year. we had that negative 445,000 um in all their state revenue which is a prior year revenue adjustment based on uh the way the books were kept last year before CSMC. Honestly, it's a bit convoluted. Um it's it's something that you know um if you have more questions about I'm more than happy to answer. But it's really this that's driving this to be in a place that's worse than we expected to be honest without the $445,000 again accounting semantic that doesn't affect our actual cash balance. I want to make that clear as well. Doesn't affect our actual
021cash balance. Um we're we're doing very very well for the as to our budget like I I think we'll finish you know it's it's looking very positive. >> Does that make sense? >> Yeah. Uh so is it July to last closed? Sorry. Can you explain what that is again? >> Sure. So the fiscal year runs from July 1 to June 30 and July to last close is whatever month that I'm presenting. So this month over here you'll see presenting through December. Yeah. >> So this is these are the actuals in this column. So this is what we actually spent in the books from July 1 to December 30. >> Okay. And then what I'm doing in this presentation is I'm really just saying, hey, because we budget monthly, we our our budget runs not only
022till the end of the year, but we we budget monthly and we say, hey, are we on track as to where we're supposed to be for the month? And this number would imply that we're, you know, maybe minorly off track, but in reality, it's really this number that's bringing down um that's bringing down our net income in in terms of actuals. And that's just an accounting semantic that doesn't have an effect on that doesn't really reflect current year financials. It was something that we had to do on our end to clean up the books from last year. Does that make sense? So yeah, for this 338 803 saying that's the actual through the end of December 30th and we were budgeting 209,233 but that didn't take into account this pull back this recovery from the
023the state. Is that right? based on last year's performance. Is that right? >> Almost exactly. This again this is I would con you know me and Dr. Henry met today with the IIA team. This is I would say I would consider it abnormal. Um essentially what happened is it's not necessarily pullback. We're IA is losing no money. Let me make that clear. Um again we're kind of still investigating this. But essentially uh there was there was kind of an over approval to last year's books that we are now reconciling in this year's P&L. So while it will appear 445K less than it should be um it's it's not it's not like the state's taking anything back from us. We're just kind of uh correcting the books from last year to to make them match what
024how much money we really have in reality. Um, >> does it >> So, how does this affect the audit? >> What was that? >> How does this I'm just curious how this affects our >> He asked how did it it how did it um impact the audit? So, it did not impact the audit. We talked a little bit about that today as well. Do you want to clarify that, Nick? >> Yeah, sure. So, It's a good question. It's the first thing I asked. So, she is well bred. Um, >> yeah, >> to my knowledge that this solution should be sufficient for last year. Um, and I think if we get any news regarding if this does affect the audit, I will let the board know as soon as we know. But, but as of right
025now, this is something that, you know, CSMC kind of uncovered and and is dealing with um as best we can. And you know, the situation is still unfolding and and I'll make sure to let the board know as soon as we know. >> So, are we saying this is an error from our our prior back office? >> Currently, it so based on our investigation so far, it does seem like it, but we're we're continuing to look into it. um you know and I've definitely elevated it to kind of our our head of accounting to see to really double check. Um currently we're still looking into it. Um but we do feel strongly enough that we do need to write the books in such a way this year that you know I am telling them now.
026So so we're we're looking into it. >> Okay. And one more question on on this line of thinking. So so I I appreciate the the the responses. The the last one I have is back to this question about the 62% under our current budget. It seems like are are we saying the actual of the 338k versus the million for the total budget or what what is this in reference to? >> Good question. So, it's it's really just the difference between your you know the percent change in your actuals to your to your monthly budget. So it doesn't it doesn't really have any reflection on the million. In my mind, we're still on track for this. Again, our books, see, you know, this number here will not be as high as we have it here because
027we're going to have to take, you know, on our books, it's going to look like there's this negative $445,000 revenue hit. But I mean in terms of our of our actual cash balance which again is you know paying off our revenues and I know is something of importance to the board. I I wanted to put here that our current cash to date in our bank account is 1.5 million. Um so currently IA is doing is doing very well. Um you know with Dr. support on the expenses and and really keeping our eye on those and and thanks to the cash flows that you know so our account manager at CSMC is you know continuing to put them together bi-weekly um we've really kept a good eye on cash and and cash is currently quite strong
028right now and again this 445k is not something the state is going to you know they're not taking anything away from us this is just we're correcting Um uh we're correcting a you're we're making an adjustment to last year's books that were that were by growth compass. >> Okay. So we have 38 338,83 is the actual and that's a loss. That's a that's a deficit. Uh our budgeted amount was 29233. That was a deficit. Correct. >> Yes. >> So aren't we overbudget? Isn't Isn't that what we're saying? >> It it is, but what I part of what I'm saying is that it's not as much a concern to me because this number right here in state revenue should be $445,000 more. This number should be because we're taking away those funds. We're kind of we
029have we're having to reflect an adjustment from prior year in this year's books, which is uncommon and abnormal. >> Yeah. Um, but all the same is something that we're, you know, we're kind of working with the best knowledge we have here. That's something we're doing. So, in reality, this should be almost this, I mean, we we should be $445,000 better >> than this. So, by all account, >> we're not we're not based on this correction. So, I we can't have it both ways. It seems like we we should be recognizing the 445, but we have to we have to we we've removed it, right? >> So this so in these actuals we're including the 445,000 >> the three bill yeah the three mill the the 3.4 4 million >> of total revenue you're saying includes
030the 445 correct >> the negative 445 >> yes so based but again that is that is something that relates to the prior year so that should be really you know reflected on last year's net income but we're reflecting it this year because this is something that you know an approval is something we really get through December and it hasn't come yet. Now, it may be the case that the state still owes us money. That could be true, but again, it's something we're we're actively looking into. But for now, we're putting it on our books to kind of correct this mistake that happened last year. >> I guess my question is, is this statement that net income is 61.9% under current budget accurate? into it. I'm Yes, it currently based on our current financials. Yes, because
031we have to show this prior year adjustment. Again, prior year adjustments aren't all that uncommon. The uncommonness of it is the size of the adjustment. Um, it's not uncommon to have an approval of say $30,000. you know, there's a few you dropped a few 88 from P2 and there's an adjustment. The size of it is uh, you know, changes the books. I mean, you know, $445,000 and at this time we only have around $4 million of of expenses and revenues. It changes the books. Um, so part of what I'm saying to you is that this our current net income is not a concern and frankly the cash balance that we currently have is a big win for IIA. Um, that's something I really want to focus on too as far as the net income is
032important. Um again this this cash balance is strong and I know something the board cared a lot about in terms of taking out a loan and you know based on kind of current projections kind of like the presentation I gave the other day things have continued to trend very positively and again based on current estimates we will not have to take a loan. So this statement is is accurate fiscally. Um but in in you know there's a difference between what's going on in the land of accounting semantics and what actually is going on in your bank account. And usually the discrepancy is not this large. Uh but it it happens to be this time. So part of what I'm saying to you Brett is that you know in in in terms of what is in
033our actual bank account things are very good. the spending has been under budget um for for the most part and uh revenue has been strong um but in the accounting semantics land uh we are currently under our current budget but again it's it's not an alarm because it is accounting semantics. >> So let me ask you a little different way 338,83 you say is 62% under the current budget. What is the number you're referring to that it's that it's 62% under? Where is that? >> Uh that's >> where's that >> that's compared to the budget. So the budget this is again the budget from July to December. >> Yeah. So what's the number we're comparing it against? >> I'm sorry which one? >> What's the number we're comparing 338,000? 62% under current budget. 62% under
034what number? What's the exact number? >> So Brett, for this one, we're comparing it to our um budgeted number of 209,000 for our our budget. >> Okay. So So that's what I'm looking at. So I see a loss of 338,000 versus the budgeted loss of 209,000. Is that right? >> That is correct. >> Okay. That's not under budget to me. That's over budget. >> Oh, so loss. >> Am I Am I missing >> am I missing something? I If I'm wrong, please tell me. I'm trying to understand. So I >> I want to understand. >> Following. So >> Brad, I I think maybe this so this is this would be a loss of 338,000. So the loss clear when I say under budget, the loss is greater than what we expected. Does that make sense?
035Yeah. So, it sounds like we're over budget. >> Oh, I I think either either I think I suppose either either one works, but I think the important thing is that expenses are currently over revenues. I I see where you're coming from that I I see the confusion. Um >> because it's positioned 62 thou 62% under our current budget means that we're doing really really well. But to me, we're over budget based on the adjustment. >> It's because it's a negative number. It's >> what I'm saying. It's a negative. Yes. >> It's It's going the wrong direction. >> Yes. >> Sure. Yes. Fred. Yes. It It is It is the uh Yes. It's It's the double negative of it all. I I see I see where you're coming from now. Yes. you it is it is
036it is uh it is fair to say that that this is currently over our current budget. This >> under is the negative number is lower. That's the I think that's >> Thank you. Sorry. I I need to get >> No, no, no. You you were right. You were right. I think it took me a second to to place the the question. So, appreciate your patience on that. >> Thank you. Sorry. >> That's okay. That's okay. That I I didn't quite understand what you were No, no, no, wait. You're on. >> Well, I'm already on. Yeah, I didn't quite understand till the end there, but I have a different question. So, earlier you said that this correction is state revenue, right? It's uh let's see the number here about $60,000. That correction is based off an
037error from last year. And that error as you explain it is that we took too much credit is for funding from the state, revenue from the state. Is that what you said? That was the actual issue that's trying to be corrected now. Did I say that correctly? >> It it is very close. It is a it is a comp it is a complicated issue that is that is abnormal and I will do my best to explain it and it might >> if if it is not to your satisfaction please ask me again I'll try to explain in a different way. Um so our fiscal year ends June 30th the government pays us let's let's say it's for last year. So for fiscal year 2425, it's up to June 30, 2025. That's kind of our operating
038year. The government pays us for students in this year in July and August. So but the books end June 30 and a lot of our reporting is due at that time. So what we do is we acrewue, we say we're expecting this amount of money to hit our bank account for this year. So we're expecting an acrruel payment um for for this for fiscal year 2425 you know for June and behind uh in July and August. Um, North Compass took care of that portion and based on our calculations, their number was over what IIA expected to get by 445K. >> Now, you did while you didn't receive these funds, um, it doesn't actually make a difference to your bank account. So, this wasn't a credit that you guys had. This wasn't a loan you took
039out. This wasn't like you had the funds and you used them. This was purely, hey, we expected to get this amount of money in kind of, you know, July and August after the year ended and and you guys, to our knowledge, you guys have not gotten it and we don't expect you to have gotten it. So then we had to make the adjustment in this year by subtracting by taking away that those funds. But again, no difference in your guys's actual bank account. It is a charter school finance kind of like semantic. It is it is something that um you know I wish could have come maybe a year or two from now. So maybe there was, you know, some more trust between the board and CSMC, but either way, um, it is not something
040of of immediate concern to IIA. Again, it's not something that's paid out. Does that does that make sense? >> Yeah. It's it's not that it's a matter of trust. It's just that we've been very tight with our finances here and we want to be clear that there's no uh misunderstanding between, you know, I in the public, right? So, we just want to make sure that it's upfront, you know what I mean? Because we have had difficulty in the past. So, I just wanted to make sure that I understood what was going on. So, it is a correction, but it's simply semantics on your or on the accounting part. Correct. We're not >> exactly >> because they took too much credit in let's see what was that 2024 25 year at the end of June 30
041right that's what happened >> 100% yep exactly >> but financially there's no change in the amount of funding that we have in our or in our bank account, right? Okay. >> Yes, >> 100%. One of the things that I when I was trying to understand this this morning as well was that because we are in good shape and we do have a strong cash flow that if that money would have come in we would be sitting with 2 million in the in our cash flow because >> even so they projected that we were going to get that money in July or August as far as they know we have not received that money, but we've still made it through without that money. So, we're just adjusting the budget. >> And to to just add, it
042was North Compass that projected this, which is another reason that, you know, we're trying to understand from their end, and we're currently in communication with Delanto and their team about kind of where these numbers came from. um to make sure you know if if I is owed more money then you know that would be great and that again Dr. Henry would would get her wish of the the extra 2 million um in cash balance, but we're we're really we're working again to try and understand it. It is abnormal um even even for changing back offices. So we're we're in communication with a lot of still trying to understand it. But I think yeah that that was exactly what it is. >> Then perhaps next month we'll see or Hopefully they'll find or will get that
043400 400k, right? That you'll recover or you'll at least have a better understanding of why they used or why North Compass picked or credit that amount of funding. Right. >> Exactly. >> This this issue could come up again next month for clarification. So this issue will be per pervasive for the whole year. So this is something that will be on our books for the whole year. I mean unless this money is owed to us. Um >> but so something to keep in mind kind of until the end of the year that kind of the books are you know for all intents and purposes 445k better than they look through to the end of the year. >> Um because that's kind of how it is in In terms of our real live accounting books, you know,
044um in terms of this year's performance, uh the books are 445k better than they appear because we're because we're making that prior year adjustment. >> Um you have >> Okay. Any more any more questions on this? I know this is uh this is a you know abnormal issue. So just want to make sure that that the board feels good about this and you know I'll be sure to have an update on on you know hopefully a little bit more about what comprises this number next month um if communication between us and in North is good. So >> we would appreciate that >> of course. Um, okay. Any other questions on the actual sub budget? >> Nope. >> Okay, sounds great. Um, okay. So, going forward really, I just, you know, quick uh ratios based on
045your guys' cash. Again, cash is very solid so far. Um, much better than we've kind of even expected at the start of the year. So, we're beating projections, which is great. Um you'll see right here a current cash is 1.3 billion at the end of December. Again as a reminder today so actually in cash today we have 1.5 million. So again trending very much so in the right direction. Um other than that nothing really special happened this month on on the balance balance sheet side of things. Um a bit about what's coming up. We got the P1 attendance report. Um, we've got some cars reporting that's already been done. We have CMDC reporting at the end of the month. The SARKC which is due which Grant I know touched on. Um, and other than that,
046we look forward to the second budget revision which hopefully we should have for you all next month. So, that's really it from me. Any other questions? >> I have a request. It's Brett. Uh >> on the uh slide five, we've got some ratios, cash ratio, current ratio, and the defensive interval. >> So I I I appreciate you doing this. I I know you've done in the past. I'm wondering though if we could maybe have a log of uh some prior board meetings you know some prior dates so we can get some idea about the direction that we're we're going I you know where you know what was our percentage cash ratio percentage let's say last month right or the month before or something like that so we can just see some sort of trends you
047know I don't know if you can put a trend line or something like that so we can get some idea for each of these ratios uh because this really just provides a snapshot and it doesn't give us any idea about how we're trending. >> Sure, that's a good idea. Let me see if I can get because I like the idea of kind of a cash chart to show kind of how we're we're trending in terms of cash. So, let me see let me see if I can come up with something for for next month on that front. Um, >> I think I think I can put something together and then we can take a look because I have an idea in mind and then if you don't like it, just let me know and we
048can make adjustments as needed. Um, but I think I think I've got something of what you're looking for. >> Yeah. I mean, just the health indicators like you have here. >> Uh, but just so some some historical >> Yeah. And maybe you have future forecast. >> But anyways, I don't want to get too crazy. It's just an idea so we have some idea of >> where we've come from because we've come from some dark >> financial places, >> you know. Actually, just don't go too far back. >> Do us a favor. I don't need to relive that. >> No, no, I won't I won't push that anyway. I'll just I'll make sure the graph goes like this and then we'll you know I'll draw something like that and >> call it a day. Uh but
049no, I will I'll put that together. It's a good idea. Uh let me see what I can do. I'll bring you to the next board meeting and then uh you can let me know >> any changes >> just you know just the current school year, right? Maybe just something like that, right? The current school year. >> I don't think we need to go back farther than that. Thank you. >> No problem. >> Uh, anything else? >> Anything else from your end, Mr. Miller? >> I think that's it for me. I think Dr. Henry um wanted me to I know it's been a lot of me tonight. I'm sure you all are very much sick of me at this point, but I I think uh I'll stick on just in case Dr. Henry has any um
050questions or that may be directed towards me for the ELCAP. >> Um but yeah, nothing nothing in terms of financials. >> Thank you. Okay, moving on to the LCAP midyear report. Dr. Henry All right. Good evening uh board. So we are at this board meeting presenting an update on our LCAP. So this is a midyear review uh based on our LCAP um that you approved in June of where we are. So this is required. I do want to share though that there is nothing that needs to be approved. It is it is required that we present and let you know a little bit where we are with both um the data. So in the LCAP there every goal has a lot of data points. Some of it we have at this point of the year,
051some of it not yet. For example, we don't have test scores from 2526 because they're not available. So we're we're presenting everything available to us, the data we have, as well as any available expenditure information that we have uh for each of the goals and action items. and um and that will take care of this requirement for tonight. So I will continue on and let you know and this is pretty repetitive but that um some of the metrics those are the data points that we have some are uh we already have the outcome and some are in progress and you'll see as I go through the different action items we'll let you know if it's in progress or completed. Uh we don't have any action items that have not been started at all. They are
052in progress. Um we may have one that we may put off, but still the conversation we haven't finalized that decision yet until the end of the year and I'll let you know when we get to that one. And then the same with expenditures. I will tell you, you will see that the we're required to let you know the expenditures that we have so far tied to each of these LCAP actions, but a lot of things like staffing will not be tied to the LCAP action until later on in the year. So even if it may be a big number that we have um that we have uh projected for that LCAP action item um the staffing that we're paying will be then coded to the LCAP at a later time and that's normal. So goal
053one is our academic goal and you can read it here. ensure all scholars are meaningfully engaged and achieve in a rigorous standard aligned dual immersion program in both English and Mandarin and students are engaged in academic intervention if necessary. So you can go through and um just to show what the columns are all the way to the left describes the metric. The 2425 baseline is what the data was last year. In the LCAP, we do project out three years where we want to be. So that's the next column, the desired outcome. Again, some of it we may not reach this year, but our hope is that we can reach that the next year. And then the 2526 is the current data if available is presented there. So there is a lot of information here. I
054will put up the slide go through what I think are highlights and if you have any questions please feel free to ask me at the end or as we go either one's fine. So um here are the metrics for goal one since it is academic we talk about course access uh I ready data CASP data for English math and science so we do not have our CASP data for 2526 but Dr. Kernan didn't have the data for or for 2425 when she did the the LCAP even. So that data was 2324. So you can see I did put in the 2425 CASP data which we have talked about at a prior board meeting. Um our ready growth we're looking pretty good at. uh 70% at this point of the year of all of our students
055on grade level with math and 76% are on grade level in ELA which is which is a a good number for halfway through the year because that will just climb. Going on to our second page of LCAP metrics, we have teacher retention rate. Uh our desired outcome you can see is 95%. We're currently for this school year at 92.9. Uh so there we're trending in the right way since last year it was 80%. Um our all of our students have um the appropriate curriculum and our staff are assigned correctly. Uh we did see in our a nice increase in our um in our middle of the year Mandarin data that I shared with the board earlier today. But you can see the end of the year was 43 for reading and 35 for language and
056vocabulary in 2425. And now at midyear, we're already um kind of closing in on that with midyear being 34% on grade level with reading and 23 with vocabulary and language. Um our anticipated reclassification rate was 16% at the end of the year last year. We're anticipating when we do our spring reclassification, we counted those students on track. We'll be at 16.8. That's still in progress. And then the last two were students uh district or distance from standards, excuse me, for the dashboard. I did a very complete presentation on the dashboard last year. So, I'm not sure if you would like me to go through this. I think I'm going to move forward, but you can see um where we are with the number of points our students scored as well as the colors for different
057student groups. And then one more for goal one metrics. Goal one, the academic is always our longest goal. So, there's a lot here. Um, we look at our English learners making progress, which did improve to 50.7% in our 2025 California school dashboard, which is based on last year's data, but it is a 25 2025 um dashboard is the name of it. And then we get to some exciting data that is new. of the board has not been presented this data yet which is the LCAP survey. So for goal one since it's academics we pulled out the questions that were utilized last year as a metric for the student survey staff survey and parent survey. So you see those divided up. So, and you can see the percentage of students that agree um or strongly agree
058in each and then you can see how we did also for the midyear. Now, I did present this data at the LCAP advisory committee and for that meeting we included our um kind of middle of the road students in this but I am trying to follow the same metrics that were used last year. So we're at every presentation comparing apples to apples. So at this one, it's only the top two highest, not the top three. So it it looks a little bit lower because we had a lot of that kind of middle of the road neutral data that just isn't counted at all. But you can see um some of ours that have gone up. Um the students say my school provides academic help for example is up to 78.7%. Um we are looking at
059it was pretty low last year too. It's only a 6% in decrease of pro provides effective mandarin instruction. So we are taking this data and digging a lot deeper. Um but we just went through our first kind of iteration of looking at it and then um it's all about what are we going to do about it? How do we address it? Um but it encourages high academic achievement. A lot of these student data points have increased if you can if you look at the numbers. Then we look at staff survey data in the academic realm as well. And our staff overall rated almost every question pretty high. So you can see that in last year's data as well as in this year's data. Um there's a data point that isn't on here, but I shared
060at the LCAP of 100% of our staff said we have a positive working environment. So that was a that was a good one. But again, I'll do more of this um data as we get closer. And then we have our parent survey as well. Pretty comparable, a little lower in some areas than last year. So, we're looking at that. A lot of our parents put the middle the middle neutral column. So, when I add the three, it doesn't look lower. But when we take out that kind of neutral column of I'm not sure or somewhat um it it it dives a little bit lower than it was last year in some of the areas. So those are our metrics for goal one and then we go into an update on the actions. So on the
061left you will see the action. You will see what the budgeted expenditure was. It's on the approved LCAP. What have we spent as of right now? And again, a lot of the staffing and things will be reflected at a later date. And then we have a note of what we have done in each area. So, we have an update on staff development and support. Um, you'll see that we spent a little bit more, but I did notice going back 2 years. So last year on the approved LCAP, it was approved with $2,960, but when I looked back two years, it was $12,960. So I think that could have been an error, but so you can see we have we spent $7,000, but we have underspent in so many areas. And we are getting additional funding
062that will a funding stream for title two, which is for professional learning. And there's also a professional learning grant called student services and professional development that once that >> let's make the viral Christmas dessert >> grant comes through we can um we can slide some of that funding over there uh for highly qualified teachers and staff. Again, it's looking like we over spent what we budgeted for the year. However, many many many of our positions get funded by other funding streams and they're currently sitting in the whole staffing. So, ELOP staff, uh, title title one or ELOP coordinator, um, a lot a lot of our special ed department will also be moved out of that coaching and support. Uh, we have implemented um, Mr. Schmidter has met with all teachers for at least their first
063round of coaching sessions and observations and Miss Jung meets with our Mandarin teachers on a regular basis. So we do have those things in place. Um I Ready for intervention and acceleration. All of our assessments and programs are in place that were projected and in fact we've added one more which we have shared with the board which is the multitudes reading risk screener to young kids for the library. We have um given a budget of approximately $300 a month where our volunteer librarian and other families are looking at the need. However, Mr. Schmidter and I recently met uh with our parent volunte or our volunteer and um we said because we think the budget is trending in a nice direction that it they could put together a list of books um that we believe the
064school needs and that we will look and see how much of that that we can um purchase for this year because we're in a good place to do that. We we had we had tight brains on the budget, but um we're feeling like if there's some books that we need for our classes that we can we can take care of that. For writing instruction, we came in well under the budgeted $40,000 for thinking maps. I think that was an estimate and um we were able to get the actual training for and most of the materials for about $18,000. And then we did some extra um some extra materials which actually should also take us through next year for the thinking maps training. The EL program um we will be um allocating some staff but we
065have that completely in place and our uh EL coordinator as well as Miss Young have done a great job uh really trying to improve the MLDD and EL. They've taken parent feedback at the um at the Mandarin Advisory Committee to try to continue to make it better and I I'm really enjoying watching them uh work with the staff to to improve the intervention for our kids. We we have a lot more that we would like to do, but I think we have a very solid start there. for special education programs. You can see that um that we haven't spent much that was mostly materials because a lot of our special education funds are uh either consulting fees or staff and those again will be moved over later. But we have fully implemented our special education
066program with having also added a full-time speech language pathologist. We added a 0.5 educational specialist to it's a teacher who has a credential and half of her day is spent supporting our students with disabilities um helping uh Mr. Fernandez with that. And then also we have three IAS that provide one-to-one services for our qualified students. For GATE we've worked really hard to get this off the ground and I'm pretty proud of us. the $10,000 will be used for the assessment which we haven't uh purchased yet. Um so that's what that money was anticipating. I do think it'll be much less than that but we will be blanket testing all third grade students and any additional students who their families request that they are tested um over the third grade grade level. And um but we've
067done a really good job of bringing in Miss uh Jeang and I were counting today and we we identified five different enrichment activities in just the last two months for students that they're participating in a national speech contest which more to come on that. Um the a few of our gate students are provide are doing speeches about Chinese New Year during the event. So, there's quite a few. There's a musical that we have that they were invited to as well as special enrichment classes during MLDD and ELD time. For curriculum and materials, you can see we are um a bit under the projected, but not too far under. Um I know that there was some consulting fees and things in the past that we did not use this year. So, that could be a good
068explanation of why. For middle school, we're right about on target. We're still a little under, which is good, but but close enough because all of our curriculum is in place as well as our electives, mandatory courses, and accelerated pathways that were all part of the LCAP for steam instruction. Um, we will be sliding project lead the way funds over into this action. is not currently represented there, but that is the curriculum and we have been able to supplement anything our steam teacher needs. Uh when I see her in class there, she's using um all kinds of hands-on materials for the students. So, she has what she needs even though uh we don't have any money that's directly tagged to this LCAP. As we go through our ledger, um, we'll move some of the things that
069we've bought for her that are currently under materials and supplies specifically for steam instruction. Mandarin instruction as well. You can see that maju Chinese and easy steps will also be included in this action item. And then our summer and afterchool programs that first 17,000 is for summer and we have yet and then ELOP the afterchool program will be included in this action item but that's funded by ELOP which is a separate funding stream than this LCFF for LCAP. So that takes us through goal one which thankfully is the longest one. We have two more goals but they are a little shorter. Um do you have any questions for me so far? There's a lot of updates and we're doing a lot of things. I I will say the most important thing is actually going through
070this process of completing this document has really helped us to reflect on our what's in place, what's yet to come, where are we and so it even though it is something that is required, it has been a very useful exercise. So goal two is about positive school climate and student engagement. And uh looking at our metrics first, our attendance rate, they ended the year last year at 96.7. We are currently at 96.3. So we're we're getting there. We're still trying to improve with our short-term independent study. We've done a great job of that last year. For chronic absenteeism, um we uh saw decreases. This is one of the few this and the next one suspension are the few data points that you want to see go down and not up. And so you can see
071that for chronic absenteeism um all of our metrics decreased uh which is pretty good. So, we went from a in 2425 uh but on the 24 dashboard an 8.5 um to a 5.7 chronic absenteeism rate which is pretty good. We're still at green um and we still continue to improve there but you can see that metric and then suspension rate. I did talk about in my dashboard presentation that due to um some some data uh ways that we were tagging our students, we showed a a larger increase than maybe we had at 1.4% of our students being suspended at least once. 1.4 is still very low because you can see that the desired outcome that was identified in the three-year LCAP was 2% or less. And so overall we are still meeting that but we
072are we're anticipating some improvements. Uh Mr. Schmid's nodding in that area for next year. Also goal two is expulsion rate is zero. You can see some more metrics from our parent survey, our student survey and then the next page will be our staff survey. And again there's some lower areas we're looking at. Um but o overall we have seen some decreases some and also some increases. So they're they kind of go both ways with um with how our families feel about being safe. The data for students feeling like they belong 82.7% is still a pretty great percentage. And then when you look at that neutral column it actually is much higher. And you can see the staff as well. Overall very positive. >> The question. >> Yes. >> So I'm looking at the LCAP staff
073survey school climate and student engagement percentage. And >> I'm sorry, can you repeat that? Student >> student engagement percentage. I guess it's is it slide 16? Maybe. So you're looking at at where I where I am right there. Yeah. On the staff survey. >> Yeah. So it says for a well-maintained facility and then it's it's the lowest of the percentages in that in that group there 80.5%. Yet you know I see this when it comes to facility we we mentioned it's exemplary >> right? So, okay, I I understand where you are now. So, again, this is perception data of our staff and our students and our parents. And I think it's really important that we dig a little bit deeper into why these perceptions were low because it it was low um at 80.5%, last
074year was 89%. So, we did see a bit of a decrease. when we look at the data below it, there is a tool that actually is used for the SARKC um as well. That's um what Mr. Schmid was letting you know. It it's a it's a tool that's used across school districts everywhere. It's called the FIT report. Um and so for the FIT report and it's a checklist and IUSD comes to our facility and they do it. So it's done you know by outside people and they come and they go through this whole fit report checklist. We scored exemplary the perception of our students or are that our facility may not be in good repair when they came and looked at all the elements of of of school fitness report. That'll also be submitted to
075OCD at our visit. the score when they tally up what we score in each area is exemplary. So it's just kind of I think that's why multiple data sources are so important for the elk app. Uh it is important that we look at our perception data because perception data is real to the person that holds that perception. Um as well as having an outside vendor coming in and looking at measured things for the fit report. I guess what I'm wondering is how we connect those dots, right, of the feedback that we receive from the staff or the parents about the facility because you know we I think we've been pretty happy with the facility and IUSD's responsiveness and these need repair. to me you go above >> my guess is this is cleanliness and my
076guess especially when it comes to students is cleanliness of the bathroom that we can that usually however one thing that I we have not looked at because there's been a lot of dating data crunching to do these surveys that just came in at the end of December to get all of these numbers one thing I have not looked at yet but is on my list is all the open comments so at the end of each section section. This is just all the data points. And because I wanted to do a two-year comparison, I also went back to the the data sets from last year and created a report for those and for this year. So, we can do that. But I need next to process all of the comments, which means subtracting them out for
077each question uh and then kind of analyzing those. I I bet you that and that's why I wanted to do more of a deep dive on the surveys at the next board meeting uh where I'll have some time to go into those comments because they may answer that question of kind of why the discrepancy. Okay, are we good? So those are the metrics for goal two and then the actions. And I'm going to tell you there's there's a few here that we may not we may not get to this year. So MTSS and PBIS PBIS we have tier one fully implemented and we've already started to pilot some tier 2 strategies for our students who need a little extra support. MTSS stands for multi-tered systems of support. It is not a term that has been
078used by IIA. It is used statewide however. So what my strategy has kind of been talking to the leadership team is instead of telling the staff, okay guys, we're going to now do MTSS and just throw one more acronym at everybody is we're going to make sure that the components of MTSS are in place. That's our MLDD using the language we already do. So our SST process, make sure that that's really clean and tight. looking at our MLDD and EL process. All of those are intervention and all of those are supports using IIA language and then maybe next year we'll be ready to say look at all this stuff we have and here is how it fits into a multi-tered system of support. So we're kind of putting the puzzle pieces together first. Um and
079um I believe that some of the intervention aids though will be were were in those budgeted expenditures. So we are looking at that right now. For assemblies we have I think we've improved our assemblies. Um we even our middle school has started like middle school kind of fun assemblies for pause. They did the first one right before winter break. I came it was it was um very fun. they they spent a lot of time on that with culture building, but also just our grade level um expectation assemblies and awards um have been very consistent. We budgeted $6,000 if we needed it. We have not needed to spend that money. I think one type of assembly though that I am interested in talking to the team about is outside speakers or like an anti-bullying assembly or
080there's a there's a lot of assemblies like that. I don't don't know that we've done them in the past here, but that funding could be used in that way if we find something that's the right fit for IIA. Um the same was for community building. Um interestingly enough on the LCAP, there was no amount there, but um we we haven't really needed that because we have such a strong partnership with our PTO and uh we work together on a lot of these events. So, uh, but we have implemented parent orientation, back to school night, midyear autumn festival, Halloween parade. We're in in the throws of planning for Lunar New Year, which is in just a few weeks in February. And, um, actually, I'm already meeting with PTO about the spring fling that's also coming up.
081So, we are doing all those things. The one thing that um I will tell you I am not sure if uh it the timing is right and I'll get some feedback from the curriculum committee advisory committee of parents that I have coming to the meetings if we're ready to implement an SEAL curriculum this school year. So it was budgeted of $20,000 in this action item. However, because as a dual immersion school, our teachers already have 50% of the time to teach everything. We're really looking at what is being taught in the Mandarin side of the house. That's going handinhand with our science review of like how is how is science working in a dual immersion model. As we figure that out, that's where we'll probably put the SEAL curriculum as well. We want to make
082sure everything fits authentically and we're not just kind of throwing everything at our kids. Uh for campus security, we have done a lot of increases. We increased by two more um campus aids. We CPR trained all of our staff. Um uh we have our regular emergency drills, raptor security system, badging system, and everything is up and running. We also had budgeted to replenish our emergency and first aid supplies and um again we're lucky because IUSD said that they would cover that for us. So I was surprised. Um so we did not have to use that budgeted amount and I've been in our um I don't know what to call it, our storage um unit I guess. And uh Mr. Escalante brought me out there to kind of show me what types of first aid supplies
083that we have and they're still coming in. So, we're good there. for mental health curriculum. Um I believe that we right now are using uh effectual or other outside contractors to bring counseling services and mental health curriculum to not only students with disabilities, but we also have some students in need of counseling services that don't have disabilities. So those would be although a lot of it's paid with our student um with disability special funds we will um allocate those that for our our other students will be reflected in this action. Um for facilities this is really a lot of it is our monthly facilities cost or our rent uh because a lot of our maintenance is included. We do however pay for all of our cleaning supplies and also I think it would be smart
084that custodial costs are also reflected in the action item for cyber security. We do have light speeded which is fully operational at this point where our teachers can monitor other devices and the more they're learning to use it word is spreading. They like it, especially for the older elementary kids where they can shut down. I could shut down um Mr. Delgado's computer from here if I saw that he was and I can't even see what's on his screen, but I could. So, um they like it. And not only that, they can also internally block certain sites. So, I will say it's our first year of implementation and as word's spreading um it's getting more and more popular. So that um we also paid for and then we also hired this year which will be reflected
085in the elcap a technology support specialists right there. Okay. For attendance support we did add um although we had it before I I um we've kind of redefined the role of our attendance clerk. Um we had our first real start meeting um just the other day and um and we are um Mr. Schmid is meeting with uh our assistant principal, our director of student services and our EL coordinator weekly to talk about attendance and target areas where support might be needed of individual students, technology and equipment. We were lucky that we were able to offset um we had a full technology refresh and um because of the generous donation that we received from the Larry and Helen Hog Foundation, that donation did cover the cost of 110 new Chromebooks that were originally budgeted. So because
086of that, you'll see that we've spent less, but we are still serving the students and we're able to um provide that. And again, um there's some other computer software purchases that we're making and we are planning for a digital marquee. And then lastly, we have classroom behavior supports in this goal. We have a fully operational PBIS team and they um they had a great training last week for the whole staff. It was it was really well done. And then we also did some classroom management training and materials were provided during the week of welcome. That's goal two. And the last one is the shortest. Are we good? Okay. So, the last one is parent support and engagement. And this one's all about working with our community. Uh, and our goal says we will create an
087engaged parent, student, staff, and overall community population that's invested in and actively connected to the school community and academic program. So if you look at the metrics, uh we looked at the number of students that will participate in our survey and um we had 121 families participate in our survey where uh last year it was 95. I the percent is guesstimated right now because I will tell you we are working on tagging family groups together in Aries. So right now like when we look at here we know how many kids we have but how many families do we have it it is a guesstimate but we are working on getting that data in Aries families are tagged to one another um for the LCAP parent survey you can see that we've seen just even in
088provides adequate communication with parents grew by over 7% to 73.6% 6%. Um, so the communication data looks good. And if I put that middle range in there, which I do in some of the in some of the reports that you'll see, it's really high. It they're all over 90% if I add that middle of the range. And then um, parents accessing parent square, we're able to monitor that. Last year overall, at the end of the year, it was 74%. So far at midyear we're already at 90% of our families are accessing the messages through parent square which is wonderful going on with metrics um number of families um going to coffee with the principal. So we are passing around side sheets each well again some of these are kind of guesstimates. We're going to go
089through each of the signin sheets and look for duplicates and numbers of families as we go into the end of the year. So that's why it's in progress. But we are seeing pretty good depends on the subject. We might have a small one but then we'll have a really big one. But there they we are seeing a lot of attendance. Um and then you we have our survey questions again. Number of community engagement activities. I think we're going to surpass our desired outcome of eight because we've already have five and I we have a lot more community activities to go and >> question. >> Yes. >> Uh thank you for staying. Um do you sense that we get a lot more participation at the copy of the principal when parents are upset? Yes. Um I
090mean just transparently or if there's a question that's on everyone's mind. I I I I wouldn't say maybe I think when there is a hot topic that people are wondering about then we get higher participation. And I do want to let you know that even though we have a um an agenda planned, we do uh we do address any hot topics that um that arise during the coffee with the principal. You want to talk? >> Yeah. The only thing I would add to that too is that when when people are upset, you get more people here in person. when things are calmer, you have fewer people in person, but you have them on Zoom. >> Yeah, >> that's true. >> So, here we have the desired outcome for 2026 2027 for the number of families
091contributing providing parent input and decision making at copy of principal. We have 50% for a copy of the principal. What are we saying there? >> So, we talked about that today because so these desired outcomes, just so you know, were written three years ago. Yeah. So, with the when the LCAP has a three-year ser uh three-year cycle, so I'm inheriting all of those desired outcomes from 2 EDS ago. So, I think 50 when we were much smaller, 50% was a good number. And that's why I think we we talked about it because I'm like, if we meet that desired outcome and we're at 600, we're are we saying we're going to have 300 families at every coffee with the principal like that? I I don't know how realistic that is. However, we also said maybe
092we look at all the sign-in sheets and and see if over time we have that many families coming to our advisory committees and our copy to principal and our you know and our parent workshop. And you know again the desired outcomes uh we we talked a lot about this at our cabinet meeting today is it's it's what we're going for but as our situation changes for example we've grown tremendously that um we can't adjust them we keep them on the LCAP but we can speak to them uh there's a section that says so if we don't meet that 50% we would explain that that that desired outcome was written when we were much smaller and that you know we're adjusting it to you know we we feel pretty good that we've met this percentage. So
093you get you you get a chance to explain not only the spending but the metrics as well. >> Yeah. I think maybe we need to look at the what we're really measuring here. Because if we're saying that more people come when they're upset, then a 50% target means we have a lot of upset parents here and we're not doing things well. Right. >> That that is very true. >> I don't know. I'm just throwing that out there. >> No, that is that is um a very good point. which is something to consider right as we're thinking about for the next >> for the next threeear cycle that we >> Absolutely. And I I look forward to that and kind of hitting things. But I like Mr. Smitter's point too of we do have a lot
094of sometimes we'll have a like the LCAP advisory committee meeting like we have a small amount in person but we get a lot of people that see these online and and we post videos and I will tell you I also just through kind of anecdotal stories I know people do go back and watch those videos because they'll email me later with a question after the fact and so we we appreciate that >> but We we aren't taking attendance. >> We what we are doing for online is um uh Miss Cyi and I've talked and she does the sign-in sheet and then we we note the number of attendees online on every signin sheet. So that way we can at least track it that way and know and it it's hard though because you can't really
095get the names cuz some people only a phone number shows up or iPhone, you know, or something like that. But at least we're tracking the number. Okay, so um now I'm moving on to so that I think that takes us to the end of the last goal, last metrics and now just going on to the expenditures uh for the action items. So we have parent engagement and workshops and as I stated those are happening regularly and in fact we added three advisory committees this year and those are going very well as well for bilingual community outreach and support. Uh we are able to uh bring in outside vendors but we did add some Russianspeaking staff. Um, and so we currently on staff have a a a very diverse um staff that can help translate if
096needed. Um, and also again, we have access to a company that we can partner with if we ever need to bring translation services, let's say, for an IEP, which is a lot more technical. Uh, but we haven't needed that as much because we have staff that can translate in Spanish, in Mandarin, as well as in Russian. Uh, for our and our LCAP survey was translated into all three of those languages as well. For community partnerships and engagement, we had our parent information meeting for prospective parents. Um, also written in that, each of our grade levels has participated in a fall field trip. And, um, one passion of mine that we're working on, and we've talked to the staff a few times, we're getting closer to implementation of bringing on the civic learning pathway awards with
097OCDE for grades 3, 5, and 8. So, civic learning will be something that will be added. our middle schools participating in National History Day and we're trying to get some of them to participate in the National Civics B as well. Uh for family access to dual immersion online support, uh I did check with Miss Jung and in her Mandarin update, she has lists of online resources for our family and and she also shares them not only in her update but in her Mandarin advisory committee. And then we also um our families have access to their level learning and I Ready scores so they can monitor student progress. For bilingual community outreach and support, we do have our community outreach coordinator back. So that's wonderful and and helps to provide resources, information, and translation services to
098our families. And then finally, our welcome resources and recruitment. Um, we have developed some promotional videos this year. We have updated the website. Um, we ran an ad in parenting OC. And in my board update, it's sitting back by my computer. I will give an update on our numbers in week I think we're going into week three of u open enrollment. Excuse me. And I think we're at 188 as of today. Excuse me. Any questions? >> Just a suggestion. Uh here the budgeted expenditure. Uh we we seem to have the decimal and then we have cents. We have zeros for cents, right? And then so sometimes we reflect cents and sometimes we don't. actuals. So, what I may suggest is we drop the cents. >> Oh, okay. Okay. For the zero or for all of
099it? >> For all of them. I mean, >> okay, I understand what you're saying. >> Round up or round down. >> Okay. >> It's just inconsistent and it throws you off with zero. >> Happy to do it. >> Thank you. >> Okay. All right. Any other questions, suggestions? All right. Thank you very much. >> Other than great job because I watched this earlier last week. >> Thank you. It was a great pro. It was a great exercise to go through this. Um and just so you know, we never have had an actual report >> um just the presentation at IIA. And I did also along with this made a full report that that you don't have to approve or anything, but that it's just there now for historical knowledge and for us to post on
100our website for compliance. So, it's it's been a it's been a labor of love. >> Great job. >> Thank you very much. Okay, moving on to items for discussion and possible action. We've got uh two items. Item a approved the 202425 school accountability report card referred to as the SAR in November 1988 state law was put into place as a result of the passage of Proposition 98 requiring all public schools receiving state funding to prepare and distribute a SARC each year. Purpose of the report card is to provide parents in the community with important information about each school. LCAP goal action all goals and actions funding source not applicable. Budget financial impact not applicable. It's recommended the board of directors approve action item A. Any further comments? >> Um not unless there's questions. We made
101that part of Mr. Schmid's presentation because he completed the school accountability report card. It is based It is we're doing a report card based on last year. So it's always a year out. and some of the some of the information in the actual SAR um like the personnel numbers are actually even from two years ago. So, it's just one of those requirements that we have to do >> questions. I I motion that we accept. >> All right. Thank you for Thank you, Molly. All in favor, please say I. >> I. Any oppos? Please say nay. Hearing none, it passes. Moving on to B revised to 2026 27 student calendar. During a previous revision of the lunar new year break on 2026 2027 student calendar President's Day, a US federal holiday was inadvertently left off. We
102use this opportunity to survey IIA parents about what they value most about our Lunar New Year break and to gather input on the preferred option for revising the 202627 student calendar. We had 122 responses to the survey and 76% selected option one lunar new year break Monday through Friday February 8th to the 12th with President's Day February 15th off goal action not applicable funding source not applicable budget financial impact not applicable recommended the board of directors approve action item B any further comments >> um I did put the survey of results in um the blurb itself um however I will add It was um it was very interesting to see what our families do value with the Lunar New Year holiday because as we talked as a leadership team each year it's going to change
103um and moves could be in January, could be in February and so knowing um the values of our community and we did have very large response to the survey I think will help us to better plan thoughtful more thoughtfully plan calendars in the future. And um it was overwhelmingly I I had said if it wasn't quite overwhelming, we we find figure out what our next steps were. Um but the decision was very clear. >> That's the one I picked. >> Option. >> That's the one I picked >> and so did a lot of families. Yeah. >> Yeah. >> Okay. So I following this there will be an update sent to the community. Is that right? Yes. So, we will uh we talked this morning. I will send an update uh about the survey results as
104well. I do want to share those findings as well as the new calendar. And then we'll be changing the posting if the board approves and um and all of our other kind of communication tools. >> Okay. All right. Uh is there a motion? >> Motion. >> Thank you, Molly. I'm happy to second. All in favor, please say I. I. Any opposed? Please say nay. Hearing none. It passes. Okay. Executive director's report. >> Okay. Thank you so much. Um I have a I have a bit to share, but I do want to start um by acknowledging that this is um January is school board appreciation month. So I don't know if you saw the post um that Sci did with your photos. It was it was lovely. I wasn't sure if any of you want, you
105know, follow our social media. So, I will make a snippet of it and put it in my next update to you. Um, but we do want to express our appreciation and and just how lucky we are to have a passionate board that I think really values our community and puts students first. So, I know I am very appreciative. So, thank you for that. Um, I'll just share some current events that we have had. um very positive as well as some that are coming up. And then um I did want to share some donations that we've received. So we had our first LCAP advisory committee meeting on January 13th. Uh and um our next one will be on March 2nd. It is a series. So our first meeting was to really do a deep dive into
106the data. Um and our families were able to see for the survey the full report with each percentage in each category. and we went really deep into cast data and dashboard data as well. On March 2nd, we're really going to be looking at our actions and all of those actions that you saw. I think this is where people get to think outside the box. What else can we do to address some of our gaps in data? So, as much as it's a lot of work, I do love the ELCAP and I love how it becomes a strategic plan when it's when you really get real input. So, we have that coming up. The second meeting again is March 2nd. Uh, we had a curriculum advisory committee December 18th. I do want to thank our board
107member Molly for attending. Um, that was an overview of the different curricula that we are reviewing this year. And um, we have another meeting this Thursday, January 22nd. It is after the coffee with the principal. And as we shared at the first meeting, this second meeting the topic really will be about the comprehensive sexual health because we have to purchase and adopt that for this school year. Uh which we have not adopted or or purchased the curriculum for this school year. We can also treat it as a third pilot. So if if it'll be up to the committee if they're like, well, you know, we tried that one, we want to try this one, but maybe not fully adopt. So that will all be decided by the advisory committee. It we'll start it on the
108January 22nd. I'm going to see how things go. That conversation could continue into February or um we could start on talking about one of our other adoptions in February for open enrollment. Um, I'm so excited. We're in the third week uh for our potential families after having a successful parent information meeting. Uh, which is a lot of fun talking to prospective parents. They're so excited about wanting to come here and their kids. So, um, but we already have 188 families that have expressed in interest in attending next year. Um, the open enrollment closes February 27th and March 11th will be our lottery. Uh some of these things were already shared in Mr. Schmid's update. Uh I do want to commend we have our full science fair this Friday for middle school. They're working really hard
109and I've seen a few of the projects and um I don't you know I I'm excited just to see the whole fair in general. I know it is a lot of work. >> I would I would add that I'm one of the judges today. >> Okay. Mr. >> Judge I think >> Mr. Delgado is one of the judges. >> Yeah. I'm not sure what category I'm in, but I am one of the judges. >> And then um again, we are excited that OCVE is coming next week for our charter visit. We have a fiscal uh visit on the 28th or more of an online meeting. And then um thank you again to board uh member Miss Chang that you will be attending that meeting with us. Um I'm going to read something very quickly. Um,
110but before I do that, uh, I do want to thank, this is on behalf of our PTO, but I do like to acknowledge our donations and our PTO put out and they had a wall of, uh, a campaign wall before Christmas for additional donations. And we had quite a few families whose pictures are on the wall by the front door. And so, um, I do want to thank for their donations. even though they were to PTO, PTO does so much to help sponsor everything that we're trying to do as a school. So, we had Isaac Choy, third grade, Nathan Choy, first grade, the family of Eva Shei, second grade, Evan Wu, third grade. Uh, we had Alex and Olivia Oi Young, Abigail Lee Tang and Alexander Lee Tang, both kindergarten. So, thank you families for
111those extra donations to our PTO. And finally, um I am going to respond uh to we had a community member that asked one of our board members uh about a question about our audit that we had from um that we presented in I believe that was December. So it was noticed that one uh our lend donate loan was not mentioned in the audit. So we reached out to our audit company and I do want to give an update here although we will be bringing this back uh for approval um next month. And just so the board knows I did receive the updated copy about a half an hour before the board meeting started. So I haven't read it yet um but I do have it ready to go. So when we asked the question um
112Christy our our CPA our partner from Christy White stated that they were able to look into this meaning leaving the fact that lend the lend donate loan was not mentioned and it looks like it was an oversight during the report drafting process. We did obtain the loan document and perform audit procedures. Then the email goes on to say that this does not update or change our audit opinion, but I will ensure that the corrections are made as soon as possible and have the revised report resubmitted to all reporting agencies. And then again, they have already submitted the updated audit which we will review and uh bring back to the board in the February board meeting. And that concludes my update. Thank you very much. All right, moving on to the board of directors reports. >>
113Well, first I want to thank principal um it just uh your report and your keeping the teachers informed and parents informed and uh your hard work communicating with the parents. I know it's not easy and um but you are uh such so patient with them. So I appreciate that and also all the activities that happening at IIA and so I also want to thank um just all the staff all the people that are involved um and uh listening to the LCAP it's like a blueprint of this school year. It's just thank you for your thorough report. Um I'm just excited. You know, I mentioned this last time with the thinking map. Um I look forward to the second training and I know um the teacher will truly appreciate using this and I can see the
114kids um you talk about using critical thinking. um they thought it just just a map actually the the map will challenge them to to use that creativity part uh uh going in depth in knowledge um and I'm excited when you mentioned about that you know we've taking care of the cyber security um because that is something adults that we are always worried about it um and seeing the school implementing that uh guiding our student carefully uh and also the civic learning I think that is so important for our student um and I also want to especially thank the uh PTO there's so many things that we talk about team and I um they're part of it they are uh alongside helping the school to achieve those uh important items and lessons that for our students
115Um, and I also want to thank the custodian team. Um, I know I never really say thank to them. Um, but I do see them work late and keeping the school um the top um situation. So, thank you so much for all the people working together. >> My turn. >> Okay, I have a list. Okay. So, first of all, right off the top, I want to thank uh uh Tiffany Zang, you know, because I've watched some of her meetings um online and boy, I wish I had half the energy she does. And she really connects with the parents and man, it seems like she had it seems to me like somebody gave her the questions first before the parents answered them because she's right on top of it all the time. So, I really appreciate
116all the work that she does for for the school. Um, and we're looking forward to the Prop 39 response here pretty soon, like next week. Hopefully, we're going to hear stuff from them, right? That's going to be big for us because we were waiting for that information. Um, I talked to Dr. Henry earlier just to alert the staff here that we got a request from Taste of Asia, right? To uh uh sponsor them in the OC Street Fair, right? Is that is that what is the street fair? It's what is that? >> It's it's the um it's the Orange County International Fair, also sometimes called just the Orange Street Fair. It's over Labor Day weekend in the Orange Circle, >> right? and >> very big event. >> So, the ta, if you guys don't remember,
117the taste of Asia has been at a couple of our events here where we've had vendors for food. They they uh they show up here um regularly. And um they also have a booth at the uh Mariners Church uh Saturday farmers market thing where my kids get free food because we have them here. Right. I remember this. Just FYI, but but uh they're offering to give us 15% of their sales up to $2,000 if we participate. So, but we're not sure exactly what that participation means at this point, right? So, they're going to get in contact or I'm going to direct them to you to see where that goes. Okay. But we have a little bit of time for that. Okay. Well, uh, another thing I I know I missed the board meeting last month
118because I was in Asia traveling in Asia. I actually met up with a parent, an ex-parent of IIA, somebody that I knew in uh Beijing and their daughter who is in fourth grade now happened to mention how bored she is in the school that she's at in Beijing because everything they're teaching her now she already learned in third grade here. So that would to me I thought was a huge compliment right you because it means that our curriculum standard here is three you know so there is that uh also I did have a question about the school uniforms >> so officially um that we call that we we we have to call it our school dress code >> dress code our dress code policy we do have a dress code policy and we informally how
119do we enforce that? >> So that's actually been a point of emphasis coming back for a break and so if students are out of dress code students get a warning second time parents are contacted. >> So there it's I want just want to make sure that it's not being ignored. It is being enforced. >> It is being enforced. And actually again um we had a refresh on several like behaviors uh PBIS refresh of expectations including our school dress code and um we are seeing um that it's improving again because you you have what what gets what is monitored gets gets done and so we bring attention to it in a way that's fair and respect. so that we can keep that high standard. the correct and I think that sets that standard for them and
120of course like you said in that curric or that part of their training um helps right >> absolutely >> and I bet it's kind of cyclic where you have a lot of people participating and then they kind of drift off and then you know you have to push back on that right so I just want to be sure we're doing that because I think it really reflect it's one of the I'm going to call it amenities of the school for the parents. You know, I think they see that as a positive thing and if we don't keep it up, we're going to lose it, right? >> Absolutely. Those are benefits that come from that. >> What else I got? Okay, one more. A couple of things. So, I I really like to hear about the
121translation services that we have Spanish, uh, Russian, and Mandarin translation services here at the at the school for the parents. So if the parent wants to come in and speak to you or or Grant, they they can ask for a trans somebody to help with the translation. So there shouldn't, you know, it just makes it easier for them to come in and speak to you directly. >> Absolutely. >> Okay. And then and there's an off outsource group too, right? Did you mention that there was an outsour? >> Those would be more planned ahead. Um but yes, if we needed one and again usually it would be like an IEP that has so much technical knowledge that um there are professionals that will come in and do that for you. Um we in my experience I
122don't think we've needed that yet, but we do have several like consulting firms that we work with if we did need that. >> We did need that. And last, I I wanted to talk about the uh well, it's not really the May dance celebration. I last I heard it they're actually calling it the five-year celebration, right? Is that coming up here? They're not calling it the May dance. >> I thought it was called the spring fling. Okay. But I but we are going to acknowledge and >> um our five years of existence at IIA. We have some special celebrations >> um because this is our one chance to really kind of memorialize okay five years and then we'll do that again in another five years at our 10 years. So, so from what I know,
123it will be held at the Mariners's Church this year, the facility there. Yes. And it was donated for our use, including I don't know if you've ever seen that facility, but there it's it's a large building with a stage and uh >> one of our >> lights and things like that. Yeah. >> Yeah. one of our um parents works there I believe and so we were able to get the facility >> um for free and so it's that's very exciting. It will um >> cut down on some of our outgoing costs. I've met with them. I I attend the PTO meeting. So, they had one Friday morning and we talked all about the spring flu >> and and I believe I believe that they've asked me to to be the >> We did talk about
124that as you seeing it again. Yes, >> again. I don't want to seem like a ballhog, but if anybody cares to be the MC this year, they're more than don't feel like I'd be hurt if they didn't pick me. If somebody wants to volunteer to take that role, I'm more than happy with that. So, please, please don't feel that. It has to be me. >> Thank you. All right. Uh so we were visited by Miller last week and that was really nice. Uh he shared his Thursday and Friday, right? And then he got several groups through here. >> He did. He's doing well and he's proud of the school and he seems really happy. So glad to spend time with him and get some time. >> Yeah, we did. I I a few times. Um,
125so we I mean the three of us got a chance to meet together in the morning and then um as he came back he was talking to different people. I know he spent a little bit of time with Miss Jung and then he um again brought some people and I I got to meet them and talk to them a little bit and so it was it was a it was two over two days and there were quite a few meetings in groups. So it it was really nice because I had never met him in person although he was on my hiring committee. It he was on Zoom and then for my first two board meetings he was also on Zoom and then so this was my first time meeting him in person. He was lovely.
126>> Yeah, I fed him I fed him twice. Two dinners by the way my house. Two dinners in >> so yeah it was wonderful spending time with him. Uh I really you know just wanted to commend the staff here. You know the school has this just wonderful feel and I also wanted to commend the and recognize that not every student is the same and sometimes we have students that are having challenges. It may be in school. may be in their homes. But in many cases, the staff here have stepped up to really support and create a an environment where kids feel safe and um and we can support the families the best that we can within the scope of the duties of the school. And sometimes we the school goes above and beyond, takes takes
127additional care. So I just wanted to recognize everyone who participates in that process. I think it's neat to be in a place actually where you have younger grades, the elementary school grades, but you also have middle school kids and students and the younger kids can look up to the older kids. And I know sometimes younger kids want to have their own space and to want to be around all the youngans, but it's I really reflect I really enjoy seeing that and I and it it just provides a model standard for how the young ones can grow up to and see role models all around them. So, uh really just a special thank you to to you all. I I feel like as we've matured as a school, our our we've begun to encounter different challenges
128and I from what I've seen this year is probably the most challenging from uh from the perspective of the student population, I think that's maybe a result of our our growth too. But I feel like we have the right staff in the right place and uh staff here is excellent. Okay, thank you all very much. Uh, moving on to adjournment. It's recommended the board adjourn the regular meeting of the Irvine International Academy board of directors on January 20th, 2026. Is there a motion? >> I'll motion. >> Thank you, Felipe. Is there a second? >> Thank you, Molly. All in favor, please say I. >> I. Any oppos? Please say nay. Hearing none. It passes. Meeting adjourned at 3 minutes till 8:58. >> 58. >> Yeah.
