001agriscience and horticulture technology covers a large spectrum of agricultural and botanical interests class activities focus on various methods of greenhouse growing and plant care but also extend to landscape planning installation and maintenance additional topics often discussed researched and practiced are floral design hydroponics aquaponics and aquaculture natural resource management and small scale agriculture there are many career pathways extending from our horticulture program students often intern on local farms and work for local greenhouse and nursery companies landscaping and golf courses some students have gone on to start their own businesses and many have continued on to study science in new jersey colleges universities and beyond students can earn credits with cumberland county community college and sewell college in agri-science and horticulture students primary area of study is applied plant botany soil science and natural ecosystems and resources
002they also study landscape design and architecture and greenhouse and nursery growing soon studies will expand into the innovative new fields of organic sustainable and regenerative agriculture students work on many class projects as a group and focus primarily on practical greenhouse and landscape management but they also work on individual projects called supervised agricultural experiences these saes range in subjects from home flower sales to irrigation installation new garden layouts beekeeping and animal husbandry hydroponics and many more students often look forward to the classes annual greenhouse plant and flower sales with a special interest in succulents and other house plants succulents are currently very popular for interior decorating and are a special draw to our current students also the class trip to the philadelphia flower show each spring is an event that all students look forward to and
003learn from on computers students utilize the pro landscape software which is a program for modern landscape architecture and design they also become more familiar with excel and office to aid in business organization and life skills the greenhouse and greenhouse systems is a focal point of our program and students become adept at plant care and diagnosis within the greenhouse environment students also learn to properly use and care for a wide array of gardening hand tools and landscaping power tools the agroscience and horticulture cte is a very hands-on program where students learn to work hard and see results in a continuously changing but serene and green environment
