001cosmetology is specifically designed to prepare its graduates to obtain an nj state cosmetology hair styling license which is required to practice cosmetology in the state of new jersey students must obtain a high school diploma complete at least 1 000 hours of prescribed cosmetology training and passed the written and practical portions of the state board exam in order to be licensed this course prepares students for a professional career in cosmetology or one of its related areas and focuses on hair skin and nail care for men and women and barbering career paths that a student might take after high school include stylist nail technician color expert salon manager salon owner teacher or member of the state board of inspectors it could also lead to other interests outside of the field such as a career in sales or
002in scientific research the program is science-based and also includes history communication skills and life skills the general science area includes sanitation general anatomy and physiology skin hair and nails and barbering projects include exploring safety issues and practices professional image sanitation hair and scalp care hair shaping and barbering wet hair styling thermal styling chemical applications manicuring pedicuring nail tech services skin care facials and makeup application superfluous hair removal and salon business management students must complete four technical papers one research paper and one senior project students study them a ladies standard textbook and this year they are fortunate to be using a mindtap program specifically developed to go along with our curriculum to help with our special circumstances this year our students love to be involved with giving and receiving spa facials and practicing hair color applications
