001So quiet. >> Okay. At this time, I'll call the regular meeting of the board of trustees of Needles Unified School District to order. Please stand and join me in the flag. I pledge algiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands. One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> Thank you. Please be seated. We have Christina Cameron Oro here. >> Marilyn here. >> Josh Powell >> here. Sheridan Silvermith, Lana Walters >> here. >> Thank you. Item A3, revision, adoption, ordering of the agenda. The board may approve the agenda as is or add and or pull items from the consent agenda for discussion andor action. Is there a motion? I so move that we um adjust the agenda to approval the two meeting

002minutes and have them voted on each separately. >> Okay. Okay. Is there a second? >> I second. >> So there's a motion by Lana, second by Josh to pull the minutes and vote on them separately. All in favor, please raise your right hand. Okay, motion carries 4. We are at public comment time. That meeting is a meeting for the school board to conduct the school district's business in public and is not to be considered a public community meeting. This is an opportunity for others to make citizens, excuse me, to make suggestions and identify concerns about matters on the agenda or other school related matters. Have we had any public comments cards? No. >> Okay. Well, seeing none, we will move into our close session number one and we will missing at 6 p.m. Thank you.

003Um, open session here at this one. We're at item E reporting out of close session. We have board expulsion hearing student number 252602. uh was uh unanimously approved to accept the expulsion amending the term to include the first semester of the 2026 school year and then nothing else to report out of close session. 27, >> right? I think that's what I said. >> 2627. >> Yeah. >> And so Okay. Member of course. I'll start to my far left. Well, I didn't have anything except whoever whose idea this was. They're wonderful. They have little uh I had wounds before when I was running on the playground. Now I don't. I put those out there because my kids have been working so hard on their cursive and they wanted a chance to show that. So that's what

004they decided they >> very nice and thank you with that too. >> Josh, >> nothing to report. >> I I don't have anything to report either. I want that BSDA for board of directors meeting for the last board meeting. So I was not here. Hey Dr. Cameron. >> Yeah, I just uh attended the volunteer award ceremony for Mr. Josh Powell for volunteer. Very happy to be there for that and what really well earned. Thank you. Okay, we will go to our principal director for Maria Armito Elementary School. >> A thank you. Thank you Shannon. Thank you. Awesome. Always nice. It feels comfortable and to be here and it's just a great atmosphere. So, uh, Vista is staying, um, consistent. We're in the 290s with enrollment and at 95% attendance. Uh, the fifth graders had their

005final project heading into the end of the third quarter, and that was on the solar system. So, they got to choose what sort of presentation they did. They did slides, uh, 3D models, and they did have to get up and present. So, that was, um, enjoyable. I went in and watched a few. Um, Art in the Park. Uh, again, we partnered with our Needles Art folks, um, Peggy Sue, and so we got to go down and decorate for Art in the Park, and then they had a little art project that they did, um, down at Elers. So, that was really fun. We also had our kindergarteners go over to the library and the sheriff's and they got to hang out in the sheriff's car just for a second. Um, and then we had our tattoo

006the teacher that we graciously borrowed the idea from Shannon and we made about $460. So, that was really cool. And I think our winner had like over 50 tattoos. Um, I got 10. I think this is including a little face kitty cat here. So, that was good. Um, we also had our um, STEM camps that we're continuing to do and they are going on a field trip next week to Keepers of the Wild. Um, the other thing that we've been um, working on is our literacy night that's coming up May 6th and that's in conjunction with our Kinder Roundup. I'm excited to say we've already had six TKs enroll online. So, thank you, Jeff. Uh that's been uh very easy. They enroll and then we've been printing them out. So, I believe we're up to

00712 TKs and about 30 Kinders for next year. >> Before we go to the next one, I just want I want to make a comment. So, I've been doing this for three years now, and this is like my favorite part of the board meeting is is going through this stuff. I just >> Yeah, it's like my favorite part. Just so you guys know, I love the colors and the pictures and your enthusiasm >> and I just appreciate it cuz that's how you know you guys are passionate about what you do because you look like I I can tell because when I do my board report, I never have this. Okay. So, I love it. This is my favorite part. So, >> good point. >> I appreciate it. >> Well, thank you. >> Okay. Next we

008have Amy Avula, our principal science as well as assistance. >> All right. So April edition we had um first we last year we told our juniors um we would provide some really nice incentives to them if when the cast test came back if they did their best and could reach at or above standard level on the CASP. And so we fulfilled that. We were able to provide some very nice opportunity gifts for them such as some TVs. Um a we did TVs. We did headsets, earbuds. We also did a um karaoke machine. We did >> laptops >> and laptops. And if you could see where it says uh let me put my glasses on so I can see. You did it. These are our winners. >> So, what happened was if they scored at or

009above in ELA, they got a ticket. At or above in math, they got a ticket. At or above in science, they got a ticket. So, they had they were given the amount of tickets for how well they scored and they could put it in any opportunity gift they wanted. So, some put all their tickets in laptops, some spread them out. We had one student that won two. >> So, we But we also brought in the juniors this year and talked to them before we had them take CASP and showed them the opportunities that they'll have for next year to win and to take their time. And the feedback has been really good from our juniors that are testing. And the teacher said, "If we don't get if they don't score where they wanted, they get

010the highest score in effort because they've been taking their time on all the tests and not rushing through them. Their scratch paper in math is showing that they're trying to work out the problems. They're not just going through and clicking. So, it's hopefully working. So, thank you, Cecil, for allowing our money to uh >> using it for good. For good." Um then every year I do an egg hunt at the high school right the Friday before we go on Easter break and to help in provide incentives for kids to come to school on that Friday because it is one of our days that we might have we've had low in attendance. So, what I do is I hide probably anywhere from 75 to 100 eggs, but there's about five golden eggs. And if they find

011the golden eggs, they bring it into the office for a chance to win a prize. And you can see the winners in this here, in this picture here. Um, so we release them about 10 minutes before nutrition and we send them on their way. And if you ever want to come watch a bunch of high schoolers enjoy being kids, that's the event to come to. There was a group of construction workers across the street working on a roof of a house and Chris goes, "Amy, look outside." They just sat down on the roof and were watching the kids running around looking for these eggs because it is just it's just nice to see high school kids not care what people think and they're out hunting eggs, you know. So, I started it and then I

012didn't get a lot of feedback about five years ago and then a kid said, "Miss Ovular, we're doing your annual egg hunt, right?" And I'm all I didn't know it was an annual thing, but yes, we'll do it. So now it's been an ongoing >> event and it's fun for the kids. We also have the Sanino County Superintendent of Schools uh student advisory panel. There are three pictures there. These kids were worked for two days um for two weeks. They came out two different times and the kids had to pick a community problem that they saw in the community and they had to provide a solution for it. So, and then they presented to different community members and uh San Bernardino County officials come out and then they present their solutions. So, we had probably

013about 12 to 14 students that did it this year and there were some great great presentations. So, just kudos to Ted Alejandre for always providing this opportunity for our kids and giving them a chance to have student voice. Then we also um sent Mr. Carlson as they call it is called festival not the festival it's just called festival and it is the state championship for choir and for band and Mr. Carlson this year. The choir took first place and received an excellent rating. >> And Mikey Ooa, he accompanied the choir and played a solo on his flute and he received he was named the overall high school accompanist uh for his participation in one of the songs playing a solo with his flute. Wonderful. So, Needles was well represented. The band also uh went this

014last week and I'll report on that next board meeting. So, Mr. Carlson's doing a great job there. Other than that, everything is going well. We're finishing up our CAST testing this week and then it's on to AP testing for the juniors. And if the juniors continue to come back after AP testing, we'll be good because they're probably about tested out. So, >> okay. Thank you, Mr. Eman. Needles schools been used for less recent. >> All right. Um Needles Middle School kind of hanging in there right around that 200 number. Um we've kind of been up and down. Right now we're just a little bit below. Um we recognize students of the month with the um the Eagles. Um for last month we had Alec Jenkins and Jaylen Jenkins. Um so they were our student of

015the month award winners. Um, similar to Miss Avula, we noticed that Fridays before uh Easter spring break was kind of a down day for attendance. So ASB and Miss Castillo hosted a ro shambo contest. Um, so the rock paper scissors, huge hit. Kids were all kinds of fun over that. They got necklaces. So you could say, "Okay, I want to play you for three necklaces." And then they row shambo and if you won, you got three necklaces. And then whoever ends up with the most necklaces at the end gets a prize for each grade level. Um and and then we also use that as a little bit of a fundraiser and I think Miss Catill said we raised a little bit just a little bit shy of $200 on that um with students rebying necklaces

016because they ran out get some more. Um so so that that was very good. Uh, similar to her egg Easter egg hunt, we hid little paper Easter bunnies all over our campus. And if the students found those, they could take them to Miss Castile's room and get a a little prize or some sort of thing depending on which bunny they found. Um, so same thing just to try to get kids in school that Friday before break because we do notice that that's a down day. Um, we also hosted um our first time hosting we called it fun Friday that same day. So, the last period of the day when they're normally in their elective class, uh we got to go outside and we had music playing and there was games, big big uh big tic-tac-toe,

017big connect four, um all kinds of different stuff going on that that the kids got to just enjoy and have fun if they had earned it. Um we used our our eligibility stuff to to figure out who could participate, who couldn't, and those who weren't allowed, they were definitely sad that they couldn't participate. So hopefully they try a little bit harder so that they can participate the next time. Um we had eight of our students travel to Kingman for the STEM competition again. Um this year we had some really good uh really good turnouts. Our sixth and seventh grade took first place in the engineering where they actually have to create a design and build something. And this year it was I think it had to be some sort of a catapult or something to

018throw a ping pong ball. So, sixth and seventh grade both took first place in that. Um, our eighth grade team took uh second place in that. Uh, the seventh grade won first place in the math competition and Luis Rosales took second place overall in the math competition. Um, and he's an eighth grader for ours. and that and overall as a team we took third place and we have a 3D printed trophy sitting in with our sports trophies for those kids that were participated in that. Um so a lot of fun was had. Miss Marcato was the one that took those students up. Um they had a really good time she said. Um and then CVS currently we have eight students enrolled down there. Um and things are going okay. You know, we're starting to make

019a turn with quite a few students and getting some things done and they're finally getting caught up on things and hopefully we'll be able to get them back into seat uh at the regular school soon. >> Edwards, our assistant superintendent. >> So, just a couple things. Um Daniel and L and I attended Caswell the California um Association School Business Officials went down to San Diego and spent a couple days down there. Um doing some workshops, meeting with submitters, talking through some things with, you know, that we that we'd like to do here. It was really a great event. Um we brought back a lot of good stuff. They they keep trying to spend money. I keep telling them no, but it was it was really good. It was a good time for us to get

020away um as a team building and and had a good event there. I've just finished up P2. I'll be picking up the Dr. Cameron here the next day or two. Um Alabama. Um >> yeah, we're uh right now I'm in the throws of our budget building. I'm I just finished up the last workshop. I'll go back down again uh here in a couple weeks and set everything up with the budget bill and then we start rolling into our annuals as we get ready to close out the school year for the fiscal side of the house. Um on the on the nutrition side of the house, one thing I was going to mention was we're pushing forward this with our commercial grant for our commercial dishwashers. We're going to put one um down in Miami Beach

021and then one at the Needles um area. We had that grant given to us a couple years ago. So, we're going to close that out and get us a couple of commercial dishwashers in there. Those guys are working hard to get that out. We are We talked to the vendor that's putting in our play structure at the Head Start program. They won't do it during the summer cuz it's a poured in kind of foam and it just won't set. So, we'll they're not going to come out and do that. L's working with them. Try to get them out towards the end of August. uh we just have to encumber the money before the end of the fiscal year and then spend the money before September 30th. So, we're on top of that, pushing that forward

022to get them a new play structure out there. Other than that, I I don't want to steal any of their thunder. Although, Bella has got her team out there working diligently to get the field ready for the softball and baseball state tournament. It's coming. It's a big deal for us. So, um she's like, Ken Parker's on her hip, get things done, but we're excited about that. So, we got a team working really hard to make sure that we're prepped and ready for the state tournament to come up. >> Well, we did give a shout out on uh social media is having >> the best ball field in the tri-state area. >> So, you could have done one of these with like pictures of dishwash you could have made that a lot more fun. Well, I

023think you're no expect more fun. >> Okay, next. Daniel, director of school business. >> And we understand you left their hands out at the office. >> Yeah, that's mentioned. Thank you. >> We'll swing back here later. >> We'll be there. those papers >> like like Cecil mentioned, we're just kind of it's getting towards that point where we're kind of start kind of ending the fiscal year, starting getting ready to roll over fields, looking at what we're going to have to encumber, what we're going to have to roll. Um we did just finish up our uh salary schedules with the 2% increase on the certificated and classified. That was a it it seems, you know, simple to just say it, but it's a lot of working pieces that goes into updating and and paying and and

024going back and completing the retros. So, we have Nancy and Vanessa has been tag team and kind of working on that and working, you know, putting a little extra hour to get that done. They're doing a great job. Um, as far as and then we got that and then our nutrition side of things. Um, every four years we got a rebase for our CD. That's our community eligibility provision. Ultimately, what that is, it's a federal program that takes away the hassle of doing meal applications from the district side and the parent side. And it also eliminates that stigma of knowing who gets free meals, who has to pay. And on top of that, it gives all free breakfast and free lunch to students regardless of income. So, having that program is definitely a plus. This

025is uh from now till June is our rebasing month. So, we'll be reapplying for that and hoping to get that again for the next four years. And then also, we're applying back for our SSO, which is our summer seamless option to provide meals to kids throughout the summer. So, we getting that going now, too. >> All right. Thank you, Harris operations. >> They flew out the window for you, >> but I have lots lots of paperwork in my office. >> It's pictures, >> lots of maps. Um so speaking of maps, working on the high school fencing. So we actually um went ahead and put in for the notice to bid. Um the first one is going to be tomorrow. We have to advertise for 16 days. So it's going to be Wednesday. Tomorrow is the

026first one. The second one will be next Wednesday and then with the timetable that we have to follow because we are a Kafka district. Um you're looking at a bid opening for May 13th. I had my numbers switched earlier there. Appreciate >> a little dyslexic. So May 13th is what our bid opening is. So hopefully that gives us enough time to get some bits in and then for the next board meeting be able to come up with something on the on the fencing. Um then I also have the playground out here for Chimuvi. We're looking into changing out the surface because I know with those wood chips and we do have some broken border pieces and things like that that we want to replace and at least get them, you know, a safe play area.

027So we were looking at the rubber mulch and I know there is a That's one of the action items on here um to get those replaced. Um also next week we have bus driver appreciation day on the 28th. So I know I sent out an email. Um I know usually decides to do a little something for our drivers and I actually got them all together this year to take a group photo because for some reason the past three years I always try to scatter around. >> So um I know I gave that to I think Miss Wilson because she was making a post before. So that was a nice thing actually getting the bus drivers together and saying hey I appreciate you know what you guys are doing especially with some of the trips um

028that stem for the middle school that was one of those sad last minute trips but they were really excited to take those kids to those trips with Mr. across those trips to the choir and the band. They've really enjoyed taking those kids because they can see how much they enjoy, you know, going to those um events, especially coming back with all those recognitions. That's really fantastic. And then one more good news, we have part of our stage delivered yesterday and then the rest of the stage is supposed to come tomorrow. So, we should be all set for graduation and then as you mentioned, getting ready for the tournaments. I know we have some meetings coming up getting prepped for that. So, Thank you. Shannon Keller, our principal at one. Hi, welcome. Welcome to Chimui. I

029think my two favorite board meetings are the ones that are held at my school site. So, I appreciate when you guys come out to the school site and check it out. So, welcome. Um, we both school sites have actually been spending a lot of time exploring our local communities and so definitely huge shout out to Manuela and all of our transportation department because they get us to all the places all the time. Um, we found this little place in Habsu Heights called Hav Farm and it's a little hands-on petting zoo farm. The kids got to go and hold chickens and duck and bunnies and pet donkeys and just do all kinds of hands-on experience there. Um, so Monument Peak took two trips. Um, we broke down the grade levels and Chim Wavy went all as

030one whole school. Um, it was the kids had a lot of fun. Um, we also um have month of April brings our swim lessons for third through fifth grade. So every Wednesday, our third through fifth graders at both sites meet together in HAVSU at the aquatic center for swim lessons and water safety class. So that'll go through the month of April. U May will bring us into our little guys. Um in May, our TKs do second grade will do the same. Um but again, a lot goes into making that happen. Picking up Monument Peak, grabbing Shimoe at the ferry, and getting us all to the aquatic center. So again, that's thank you very much for making that happen. We love it. Um, we also explored, this by far is one of my favorite field trips,

031In-N-Out, which is where we, um, first through fifth graders went to In-N-Out. We went behind the scenes. We saw how they made the uh, French fries and then we got to have a meal at the end as well as learn the history of how In-N-Out came to be and still to this day is a family um, run operation. It was really, really neat experience. Um, kids had a blast. Uh, Chimabi also had their annual field day. So, shout out to the tribe for allowing us to use the field and the community center. We had a great time. We ended that with bingo for books and all the kiddos took home um, multiple books actually. Um, and um, one of my favorite activities is the shoe kick. I don't know why I love that so much.

032It's just so unique. How far can you kick your shoe off? But kids bring special pairs of shoes that they know will fly off the farthest. >> Very serious. Very serious. >> Yeah. Um at Monument Peak, the student council has been getting busy with some Easter activities. The Friday before spring break, we too had a egg hunt a little bit differently. Um all of the kids had three eggs with their names on it. Five eggs, excuse me. five eggs with their names on it so that they couldn't just run out and grab all the eggs at once. They had to hunt specifically for the one with their name on it. We did have three golden eggs that were up for grabs for everyone and that got them a free eagle treat on Friday. We've been

033doing um dollar Friday eagle treats. Snow cones by far the most popular. Um popcorn didn't go over so well. It's fine. It's messy. Um but snow cones, they keep wanting to bring back snow cones. Um, so at our site we I mean you guys are making $200, $400. We're glad we made like $45 with our with our snow cones, but it's $45 more than we have. >> Yeah. >> Um, and we also had our spring break camps the first two days, Monday and Tuesday of spring break. Um, it was Easter spring themed. They colored Easter eggs. They made Easter baskets. They played in the water. The weather was amazing. Um so and again both students from both sides hanging out at money and having a great time. >> Great school psychologist and director student our

034district enrollment right now is running around about 855 students. Um, we are declining each month at this time of year with a little bit of students leaving the district, but also some graduates, some graduates from ETC, some graduates from long-term independent study, and so we do expect those to go down a little bit from graduation. Um, our average district-wide attendance out of the five days from last week was 92.01%. We currently have 114 students on an IEP that are in the district, 57 in our county programs and seven on 504 plans in the district. On March 24th, um I invited Adriana Kiraabaldi from the Arizona Department of Rehab to do a presentation with our students on an IEP. Um she shared with them that they help with college applications, they help build career skills, um

035resume writing, job placement. they will provide funding for work clothes, transportation, things like that. So, we had several kids that were very interested and filled out applications um for what the Arizona Department of Rehab provides. Um last Wednesday we did a special ed review, which Josh, this needs to be your favorite. This is special ed reviews. They're always coming up. >> Pictures pictures like happy happy like, "Hey, look at everybody's so happy. I love it. >> The California Department of Education gave us a list of 20 randomly selected students and we had to um do a review of what percentage of their IDP services that are listed on their IEP are they actually receiving? And so out of those 20 students, we had 13 that were receiving 95% or higher. We had one that was

036receiving within the 90 to 95% range and we had four that are receiving less than 90%. and looking at those four and and as to the why attendance counts against us. And so if a student is not at school, they're not there to get their services, they fall in that category of 90% or lower. So we did have four students in that um category. And then we have two students that weren't accounted for in the review because they had left our district during the implementation window that they gave us. And then to share some good news, um Jeff and I have been working on a huge project called supplemental attendance. It is new this year. And what it is is it allows districts to recoup funds for students that attend activities outside of school hours.

037So, think after school tutoring, think of the choir and the band going to their concerts, think Lego club, think um whatever happens outside practices outside of school hours has to be done by a credential teacher and it has to line up with the standards which we will find ways to align it with the standards. And so, for every four hours that a student attends and we log, we can recoup a dank. And so there's a maximum of 10 days that we can recoup or the number of absences that they had throughout the year. So for example, if they're only absent four days throughout the whole year, we can only recoup four days for that particular child. And so we're in the process of gathering student lists, gathering um uh signin sheets, and then logging all

038of that in Aries. And then we'll work together to figure out how we can get the funds for it. And so, um, that's what we're working on. >> Thank you. >> Hey, Jeff Ry, our director of IT. >> Sorry, I don't have a brochure either. Mine's caught in the printer queue and I called IT support and they're not answering my call. So, >> I thought you would give us a QR code we could scan and look through it of what you're talking about. But anyway, you're right. Actually, this month I've been out of office a few times. So, I want to shout to Ron because when I'm out, he's the one that's got to pick up the slack and we've got testing going on and he's running his butt off this time of the year,

039especially with testing cuz he's trying to make sure everything's updated on those Chromebooks so we don't and so far not too bad. We had a little glitch on the first day or something like that. But um the other project, so I want to give him a shout out for sure cuz he really does try to get around a lot. He's, you know, he's I'm more in the office where I'm trying to keep other things going, but he's the physical part. So I want to make sure everybody acknowledges him because he hides in his room. He's not hiding in his room, but he's in there a lot, but he's repairing everything that comes through. So, and he saves us a lot of money because he'll part out a Chromebook when it's got a broken screen and

040he goes all the parts. So, he kind of saved us a lot of money, too. Okay. The other project is is my category 2 - uh during spring break. I implemented all the new equipment for at the district office to get it through and that's where we only pay um 80% of it or I meant 20% of the cost but it's a savings because the grant was $280ome,000 but I can renew all our equipment in five years. So that's how I keep us going where we don't have to fail. But I started that and um phones we've been replacing phones. So that's a big project this next month to finish that up. That's about it. >> Thank you. >> We'll move to item four, Native American education committee. >> We have our next meeting set

041for Thursday. I will be I won't be there so but it's on Thursday. Okay, thank you. So, we don't have our student, right? So, item G, second public hearing, name change proposal of baseball field at this time, which is 6:35. I will open the second public hearing on the proposal of renaming the Heels High School baseball field currently named Jack Peterson Field to Parker Field. >> I have two two comments. You ready? >> Yes. I'll read them. This is I believe they're also in your packets. Uh first from Tammy Taylor Collins to May concerned I opposed to the changing of Jack Husterson's field name exclamation point. Mr. Hutcherson was a long time city of Eagles reser the privilege of having a field name after him. I find it disturbing a coach and athletic director has

042come along and decided to have to change his family name. I know during my youth the things I remember as my father coached the behind the scenes things that Mr. Hutcherson did for boys. He could not afford cleat or equipment to play. I also know he was the biggest fan and let my father know when he didn't agree with what he was doing, not from the stands, but down in the dugout. He would be at practices, help warm-ups, batting practice, and anything else the coaches needed. He would take care of the field. He did these things for years before he got the field name. Yes, he has been gone for a long time, but he is far from forgotten. That's commission. Isn't that the point of naming something after someone so they are not forgotten?

043Thank you. >> The second public comment, public hearing comment is from Sydney and Bob Smith. We wish to address the renaming of Jack Herson Field to Parkerfield. We respect Jack's family's willingness to relinquish the honor that was bestowed to Jack's memory to have the field that was named after him to honor a longtime family friend and neighbor Parker. We believe that this act would undermine the symbolic intent of the gesture by the people who believe it to be worthy. Bob and I both knew Jack Bob worked with him on the railroad, enjoyed hunting with him and trained Labradors with him. I worked with Jack performing secretarial duties when he was the union representative for the railroad. My dad worked and argued with him about the railroad and ball games. Jack's presence at the ball fields

044was a constant reminder of who he was and what he meant to so many kids, sports programs, parents, and the community. He volunteered throughout the community as an official umpire, referee, or coach, and was always a silent donor to any young athlete, family, a program that needed financial support. Jack loved being part of the community and was a very vocal gentleman. Kids and people of all ages gravitated to him. He could either scare you with his grup voice or simply just the kindest human that he was. We were both born and raised here in Needles. As you drive through the small town community, one can't help but notice the many buildings, ballparks, school facilities, streets, a garden, high school quad memorial plaque, snack bars, benches, the dedicators of walk, and beaches that have dedicated the

045students, educators, volunteers, and people that have impacted so many lives that have truly made a difference in one way or another. These honors enable you to recall so many fond memories of the dedicated individual. Excuse me and provide a true sense of a hometown feel. We believe this action taken by the board of trustees tonight would cast a shadow over the real significance of any such honor made to memorialize any individual. We would ask to be take this to be taken into consideration leaving the recognized name of Jack Husterson Field as is but include a Bud Parker Stadium sign to be mounted on the fence. This would indeed honor two gentlemen who contributed so much for the love of the game. We wish to thank you for your time and consideration. >> Okay. Thank you.

046Are there any other comments or input >> from the audience? Seeing no other, I'll close the hearing at 6:38. Okay. Item H, announcements. The next regular meeting of the board of trustees is scheduled for Tuesday, May 19th, 2026 at 5:00 p.m. The meeting will be held in the Needles Unified School District Board Road. Okay, we're public comment again. Is there any Okay, seeing none, we'll move to our consent agenda. We have the consent agenda without minutes of March 17. Let me read the donation report. We want to thank um Mr. and Mrs. Bio. >> Yeah, they are the parents of the student class. >> Okay. They donated $500 to Neil's High School class of 2027. We thank them for that >> okay >> and do we have a motion? I so move to approve the

047consent agenda less than two meeting minutes. Okay. Previously pulled out. >> All right. Thank you. Is there a second? >> Second. Second by Marilyn. All in favor, please raise your right hand. Okay. Motion carries. 50. Have the minutes of March 17th, 2027. Is there a motion to approve? I move to motion by. Is there a second? >> A second. >> Second by Josh. All in favor, please raise your right hand. Close. Abstain. Okay. Motion carries. 4 Z one. And then minutes of April 10th, 2026. Is there a motion? Okay. Motion by Sheridan. Is there a second? >> I'll second. >> Second by Josh. All in favor, please raise your right hand. Um, is there an abstension from Maryland? >> Okay. One motion passes. Motion carries. All right. We'll move to our Okay. Action items. Board

048approval. Williams quarterly report for January, February, March 2026. Dr. Hammond recommends approval. Uh yes, we only have the one item that is the >> and we're looking into offering a uh a point 2 position. Um I'm not there yet exactly, but we're always there to offer it to staff um deciding whether we can afford to uh pay for them to go to training or get the certification or have them pay for it themselves. >> Good idea. Okay. Thank you. >> Yeah. Is there a motion to approve? >> Motion by Sheridan. Is there a second? >> Second by Marilyn. Any discussion or questions? >> Yes. >> I just have a quick question. I don't know if you've answered this before >> by it only just being a finding correct that we don't have that. Is there

049any monetary penalties that >> No, it's just a fighting. >> It's not a fight. It's just a fighting. So, it's not a sanction >> and there's no monetary penalties. CSBA just had a they're talking about sanctions and for these mis assignments and they're they wanted to put a like minimum you had to have to get a sanction was going to be at least they wanted 25% I think it's around 10%. So one isn't necessarily worse than we want to get fixed, right? >> But it's it's out. It happens. It happens school district especially smalls. So thank you. >> Right. All in favor, please raise your right hand. Okay. Thank you. Motion carries. 5 Z. Item number two, board approval of the name change from the Jack Hutcherson Field to Parker field. Dr. Cameron defers this

050item to the board. See there? >> So, yeah. >> Yeah. Uh there there is a board policy um which says that there shall be a committee that up to the board to have that um or the board can take action tonight. So, um I'll make sure the board is aware of that. What? What? I'm sorry. What was that? >> Board policy 7310 says that um the board shall have a committee before naming things. >> Citizens advisory committee. Um but that be up to the board if they want to um take action tonight. They certainly can to name the field. Um or if they want to kick it to the citizens advisory committee, they can. >> Okay. Is there a motion to approve? >> So approve. >> Okay. Motion. >> So move. Excuse me. >> Motion

051by Marilyn. Is there a second? >> Second by Josh. Any questions or um discussion? I I would like to to discuss this. Um this is something where I know we only had two public comments. I know in in private I had someone approach me and said they didn't agree with it without giving any sort of explanation. um another person that had um shared things along the lines of rather than renaming the field, make it a name safe for the stadium like the world. Personally, like I feel like it's something we should follow our policy for consider. >> Um I have something to say. Um, I know Jack or Jim and Steve Hutcherson and they're the ones that encouraged this, which I think says something. And the Parkers, there's 50 years between Ken and and Bud

052and they've been and Lynn, they've all been part of the field for many, many years. And Jack Hutcherson was their next door neighbor, and they did a lot of things together. I I think the boys think it's a good idea. I think it's a good idea, too. Just my own personal. >> Yeah. I mean, I Jim Hutcherson reached out to me on Messenger and he actually started the ball rolling on renaming the field. Jim Hutcherson, like in honor of his dad and his dad's friend, you know, um that's what got the ball rolling. So, I think some of the information wasn't out to the public when, you know, comments were made. They didn't know the full facts of like, well, the son Jim and and his and both sons actually are the ones who got

053the ball rolling on this whole name change thing. It wasn't just like, oh, Mr. Parker came to us and said it was it was actually the Hudsons who wanted to do it. >> I do think it's larger though than the family. I mean the field has served just you know many many families and students and community members for decades and they have many memories under it being Jack Hutcherson Field. To me, I feel like these are things that we could still honor somebody who obviously, you know, like there's no doubt in my mind that that the Parker family or Bud specifically, you know, has dedicated many, many years to his life and hours giving up many things that could we do and still honor what we have in existence today. Like we talked about tradition,

054you know, I how long has it been named Jack Hudson Field? I don't know the year that it was named that, but >> I'll say four years. I don't know. >> Oh, less than >> Yeah. Like I to me I feel like there could be a compromise for still recognizing roles and also allowing for you know greater community input. >> Yeah, I understand that it it doesn't sound nice to rename something like I I'm someone came and said, "Well, we want to rename this school because you know something It just doesn't sound nice. I know we have board policy stating that citizens advisory committee to name something, not rename, but I still think the intent was there like to get more of a input and I think both could be recognized too. I like that

055kind of compromise to include the >> Parker, you know, something >> along that line. Jack and leave it Jack Hutchinson Field, but it's in Parker Stadium >> and people might not know Mr. Hutcherson or you know where that but that's where we would have that plaque or something on the fan stating like this is who he was or a picture you know or something like that. So I feel like yeah we could kind of recognize those not completely renaming but to recognize those that's just something to consider even though we're looking back 50 years or more but 50 years forward what other families are going to step in and dedicate their time and you know to these fields >> um I mean if it can be doable years later they add on another third person

056>> name but I mean if there's a way we can honor everybody in future that would be good too >> we don't really have criteria that >> well that is something I guess policy the citizens advisory committee would probably develop but um it does specifically say to name it doesn't say rename you know so So, if we were to um not approve this, but would it be sent back to look at accommodating to >> I I would probably probably ask the high school to get a committee together and and go that route if there was anything approved tonight and uh you know, maybe give it another month and see what see what they come up see if they got a couple days before school gets out and see where it goes. >> There's no timeline

057on it on their policy, >> right? It's not urgent, right? I mean, it urgent their hosted state there. I think that was part of the >> when it was presented, there was a sense of urgency because they wanted to >> Yes. >> unveil it at the state. >> Yes, that was Oh, I see. which is May >> May 14th 14 15 >> which would be before our next >> receive three >> yeah three >> right right yeah >> and our board doesn't meet again till after >> that >> I just feel like it's a big decision to do you know It feels to me it feels rushed. Maybe not, but that's just my take on >> and I didn't realize that was in play that you know that was planned but to be >> any

058any other discussion >> 14th early on. >> Yeah. >> Our next meeting. Okay. >> Okay. Well, let's take a vote now that we discussed it. Okay. All in favor? >> What are we voting for? >> Um to approve the name change. >> Okay. >> That was the motion and second. Okay. >> To change it two of them together or what? I I'm >> um the motion was to approve um but if you want to resend your motion. >> No to approve field. Yeah. >> So the motion and second were to approve. Okay. All in favor please raise your right hand. Opposed. Are there any? Did you vote? >> Allos. >> Okay. Okay. Okay. Motion is two to three and then follow up with some type of >> talk to the high school and see if

059they can get a committee together. Is that does that work >> for >> I think so. >> And uh they put a timeline on it >> to school ends on the 5th of June >> out in this. Yeah, >> it's going to be tough to get people together. >> Yeah, >> we've already had the uh public hearing. We've already had the notifications in the newspaper, but we'll do our best to >> get something together, I guess. Sounds good. Thank you. >> Okay. Board approval for school year calendar 2028 2029. Dr. Turner recommends approval. Would you like to introduce the >> Oh yeah. 2029 calendar. So uh uh stayed the same as the last few. There's one twist. So the same meeting starts school starts on the second Wednesday in August. School ends on the first

060Friday in June. But with some input from one of our uh association groups, um we moved we are working the Monday, Tuesday of Thanksgiving week and taking off April 27th, Friday and April 30th and Monday balances out the semester which I think is a >> Yes. I'm just going to say hallelujah. Thank you very much. >> Yeah. Hey. All right. >> April and May are tough with no break. >> Yeah. So, uh, that was the input and that's what we delivered. So, that's what I'm I'm recommending for approval. That was what we've it's getting a coalition together. It's not, you know, everybody wants to have their own calendar of course and like every individual wants their own calendar of course. So, it's getting a coalition together and I'm really happy. See how it goes. >>

061A little concerned about the Tuesday Thanksgiving, but we'll see what happens. >> Yeah. >> Okay. Thank you. Is there a motion to approve? >> Motion by Sheridan. Is there a second? Second by L. Any questions or discussion? Okay. All in favor, please raise your right hand. Motion carries. 50. Item number four, board approval of the Sunshine proposal between Needles Teacher Association and Needles Unified School District. Dr. town recommends approval. >> Yeah, that's the uh sunshine so we can have our negotiations for the 2627 to get out in front of things. So uh yeah, we're looking forward to it. >> All right. Is there a motion to approve? So >> motion by Marilyn. Is there a second? >> Second by Josh. Any questions or discussion? Okay. All in favor, please raise your right hand. >> Motion

062carries. 50. Item number five, board approval of the sunshine proposal between Needles Unified School District and the NCA association. Dr. Cameron. >> Yeah, this is our sunshine proposal for them to them. They give one to us, we give one to them. So, >> it's all works out. >> Okay. Is there a motion to approve? >> Motion by Lena. Is there a second? A second by shared. Um, any discussion or questions? If not, all in favor, please raise your right hand. The motion carries. 5 Z. And item six, approval is thought to approve the quote for the playground improvement at levy with my hobby accent school. Um, that's how we say it, but okay. Um, Dr. Cameron recommen approves the plan. Would you like to introduce? >> Yeah, this is the rubber mulch plant boards that

063Kelly brought to us last last year. We got that going. So, it took us a while to get there, but we got there and uh you know, we appreciate your input and and sharing with us what we need to do >> and we appreciate you doing this. >> Have our kids be safe. So, that's that's all about food safety. >> Thank you. >> All right. Is there a motion to approve? >> I'll second. >> Okay. Motion by Josh, second by Shannon. Any questions or discussion? All in favor, please raise your right hand. Okay. Motion carries. 5 Z. Item number eight, board approval of the temporary loan resolution number 252615 and the cash flow report. Let's see. Dr. Cameron recommends approval. So it's it's more like we get it every month because that's how we pay our employees every month. Okay. Is there a motion to approve? >> Motion by Glenn. 065carries. 50. The next one allows us to transfer those funds. >> Okay. >> All right. Is there a motion to approve? So, motion by Sheridan. Is there a second? >> A second. >> Second by Josh. Item number 10, board approval for the quote for the beautifification projects for Vista School Needles High School. Uh Dr. Cameron recommends approval of the quotes pending the review of the administrators. Would you

066like to say something about this? >> Well, I will. Um, yeah. So, so we have quote, we had two quotes and this one was uh much much more friendly to the district. I'll leave it at that. And, um, it allows us to do some exterior beautifification to to these three schools and it also leaves the money for uh, Chimavia and NPS as well. So, um, but we want to get the ball roll on this. This this funding comes from the amount that was given to us by the county. Uh part of that $400,000 that was given us by the county. >> What are the what are the specifically the beautifification projects? >> Uh b pole banners.
