001Um, please join me in standing. >> I pledge algiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> Thank you. Please here Marilyn Matthews Josh Palson >> here Walters here. Thank you for Thank you. Okay, we're at revision adoption ordering of the agenda. The board may approve the agenda as is or add and or full items consent agenda for discussion and or action. Is there a motion? I so move that we approve the agenda as is. >> Okay. A motion to approve as is. Is there a second? >> I'll second. >> Okay. Motion by Lana. Second by Sheridan. All in favor, please raise your right hand. Okay. Thank you. Motion carries. 30. Is there any
002public comment? >> No. Okay. Seeing none, we will move it to our close session number one. >> Officer. Mr. >> uh I just want to say that he uh his office is right in the middle school. We sort of strategically did that was in the middle of everything and he probably puts on more steps just about everybody. do an amazing job for >> us out there. And >> I will add also um communication. It's been huge with Hunter. He does communicate with all the sites letting us know when he's going to be on and off the site, what's going on. He keeps us informed of students that he's had contact with and Like Dr. Cameron said, he has a presence at all the campuses. I don't think there's any time if he's not at his
003office, he's somewhere in the district doing something. So, we appreciate that. Thank you. >> Can I add to so he's been helping with delivering the notices going out to people's houses and he sits on the panel and he's just willing to help in any way that he can. Very good to have >> and I don't want to be left out. He also does our boys coun council and those boys are at that door ready and waiting for him. They love it. >> Good job. Thank you. >> Thank you. >> Really cool. >> Okay. And so we'll start with F1 report. Um I attended the um third and fourth with Dr. Cameron um we went to Cal State San Bernardino and UCR um to meet with their programs for Native Americans and their services that they
004offer. Um Chimuy is um we program with them, a youth summer program where um our tribal members can go and stay um at their campus for the week and get to kind of play college for a week. Um and so we're hoping to build something with Cal State San Bernardino as well. So it was a really good good visit we had. Um and actually she reached out to me the other day. I think she'll be here this week. So um from San Bernardino County Education. So I'll be with her this week as well. Okay. I don't think I have too much either. I just have attendance of CSBA meeting about it. >> I do. I had a wonderful experience with the special ed promot. One kid said, "Oh, I had you when I was 3
005years old." And I forgot I had. He said 15 years ago and I said, "You're right. I did." But anyway, it was really fun. A lot of wonderful kids and wonderful people. Just joy. Just sheer joy. You do a wonderful job. Really, really pleased. >> Great. Glad to be there. >> Dr. Cameron, superintendent report. >> Uh, yeah. attended the legacy breakfast where we had a lot of our staff uh award winners legacy cash in their classrooms and then uh also attended the basketball games uh this last weekend and our boys and girls are both heavy at the state so we get a couple more challenges >> awesome okay I'll move to our principal and director report I have my cheat sheet Harris our director of All right. Um, as you know, last month we approved
006the uh work for the athletic field. So, our baseball fields and both softball fields have been updated. The infield dirt was done, filled in, graded so it's safe to play and especially with the upcoming season and we have the invitational at the end of this month and then we are hosting this year the championship. So, we are ready to go on that one. Um, also last month we were talking about that Head Start had some funding available. So, we were working on getting a play structure uh proposal which we actually finalized today. So, we're having a playground update that includes um a new structure with a couple of slides and shade sales. Um, it also has it built on a pour in place, which means it's that squishy flooring. >> Um, which is safe, especially
007for littles. Um, we added a tricycle path, which is a cute little feature that has some stop signs and a little gas station and a two activity center. Um, we added some turf and a little stem activity center, a music play center, and a turtle top sandbox, meaning it's a sandbox that has a top that can come down and up. And then this way we can keep off the critters and keep it all sanitary. So the staff there we met last week and I and they were very excited to see that come to fruition on that one. So hopefully towards the end of this year we can welcome a new play structure over there. Um and then also transportation is having a busy week. We're going to state tomorrow. Um we're going to be there.
008So that's exciting. And then um we have AVID at the high school. I know they're going Thursday, Friday to a college tour. I'm sure Amy's going to talk a little bit about them. Um, and then also transportation here at the district, we p part of CASTO, which is the California Association of School Transportation Officials. Um, a couple months ago, we were able to send one of our mechanics to a workshop. And I'm excited to say and thank you that we're able to send our bus drivers to a bus driver specific workshop next weekend. So, they're excited to get some updates because there's constantly new regulations and laws coming out and, you know, they're responsible for our students and the safety and everything that goes with it. So, staying compliant is is very important. So, they're
009excited to be able to attend. >> Thank you. >> Okay. And Daniel, >> he's not Daniel is um hitting one last practice with the girls before they head off the state tomorrow morning at 8:00. Um Daniel's been a very busy man. Uh for fiscal side, we had um we we have our auditors coming back out in two weeks. Um we just completed an audit for our Cal or Cal Sturers. Um and we are now jumping into second room and we went to our first budget building workshop for next year. So um he's he's been a busy busy guy. Um do you want me to talk about the nutrition side as well? If not since >> Sure. >> Okay. So I know you got your checklist. So with nutrition, he did finish the last part of
010that. We should get that report um soon. They made a lot of different changes. Those um things of an offer versus serve. So students come through if we just serve it to them has to meet certain criteria, right? But if we offer actually kind of reduces what we have to put on the plate and those types of things. We went to an offer versus serve. We've changed how we've done the um the breakfast in the classroom to meet the certain guidelines um that that they came out. The they came out here with us and really give us some guidance. One of the things that Ella didn't mention um or May can now claim our food that we serve in our cafeterias. We finally passed help. We got our grade got letter grade a and her
011team did a lot of work down there getting that prepped and getting that ready. So we'll we should have them in the system by the end of the week and then we can go back and claim all the way back to November. So that's been a big push for for both Ella and Daniel. Um and then Daniel is working with Ella on our kitchen infrastructure or sorry the um the commercial dishwashing grant. So we had a grant that we have to go back and have people come back out identify where we're going to put these dishwashers and then get commercial grade dishwashers in a couple of our cast. >> So he's been he's been busy too, but uh right now he's off to take the the lady up to Thank you. Okay. >> I don't
012know where I'm at today. When we get up there and do our next briefing, okay, so we there for attendance, you know, through the year it kind of goes up and down. Well, um, last week we hit our lowest enrollment, but the good news is we're back up a little bit this week. We were at 880 last week. We're at 8.82 this week. Um, in past years, Valentine's Day has been like one of the highest attendance days. And, um, this year it happened to fall on a Saturday, so we didn't get that day, but our Thursday attendance before a 4 day week was pretty good. It was at 93%, which is great for a holiday weekend. And then um our uh attendance rate overall is between 90 and 94% in the last month. Um last
013week we held our monthly SAR meeting. We had 100% parent attendance at the meetings. We met with 15 families. Um our next SAR meeting is scheduled for March 5th. I want to give a shout out to Kathy Kavakus and a thank you to Miss Keller because we have borrowed her to help um set up the meetings, create the packets, um serve on the SAR panel in Lori Orura's absence. Um and then next week I've arranged for First Institute to come and do a presentation at the high school for students on an IEP. First Institute is like a job placement type program and really the the business they connect kids to a business that they're interested in, but First Institute pays their paycheck. So there's like a great benefit to businesses hiring our kids because they
014don't even have to do the payroll for them. And so this will let our kids know what's out there and how they can go about getting a job. And then finally, we had our Night to Shine event on Friday night. It was magical. It was just I mean kids um got there. They they got their flowers. They got in a limo. A lot of them had never been in the limo. Some families joined us. The families hadn't been in the limo. And they roll up on a red carpet. Everybody's cheering for them. The kids are dancing down the red carpet. Their names are announced. They go inside. They um get to eat a meal together. They dance. Some of our kids were break dances. Some of them went in the karaoke room and they were
015beatboxing and it was just at the end of the night everybody got a crown and a goodie bag and it was just a a magical night. So >> happy I mean it was a heartfilling night for sure. So thank you to Wendy Stall, Miss Matthews, um the county principal Dave Mowgli, the bus driver Kim, Robin Edertton. They all helped make that night super special. >> Super cool. You did a nice job. Great to hear. >> Uh yes, we uh finished up with Cal Pads fall two which entails the teachers certifications and classes they teach and matches up with HR what Cindy has to put in. It's kind of a triangle. She has to we got to make sure they all kind of match us and certified high qualified teachers are in right directions. Um, other
016than that, I'm working on um, uh, category 2 e- rate, >> uh, which is, uh, the 20% that we only pay for all our networking at equipment still coming in, >> finding stuff that I have to change out. But, uh, that is we only pay 20%, it replaces all our equipment every 5 years. So, we always have new equipment and not worry about breaking down our network. Uh, also, it's on the agenda tonight. uh had to work on -ate for getting keep chim wavy going internet. So we're working on that for a fivey year. That's something I worked on last month. Tried to make sure we get our bids in and stuff. So that's going to be on the agenda tonight and that's what I've been working on since last week. >> Thank you Edward.
017>> Um second that's that's where I'm locked in at in our budget. That's where I'm locked in at. The departments are doing amazing. Thank you, Jeff. Jeff did mention us some of the work he's been doing with Verizon. We were way overpaying Verizon from back in co days and he worked those every day saving us thousands of dollars per month from what we're getting our phones updated. So there's everybody I mean there's a lot of good work going on here but but from the fiscal side of the house we are locked in on second. lock in on our our audits coming up and then the budget development that's coming. So that's kind of what we're >> Thank you. >> All right. At this uh we're still seeing steady at 95% and for the first time
018in a long time we are under 300 in enrollments. Uh we did celebrate our hundth days with a kindergarten hundth day parade and it was also kindness week. So we did a lot of kindness act. We had the older grade levels uh work with the younger grade levels with some kindness activities. We had kindness checklists. So just to keep that kindness connection flowing for second quarter as well. We are super excited that we have Jerry Smiles that continues to come all the way out here to our school. They sent one dentist and she saw over a hundred patients. So, uh, she did a great job and I just want to recognize that we have a special little kindergarten student and he has grown so much just emotionally, socially and he's reading, he's reading books. So,
019we are so proud of Mr. uh Skyler Contrarus and along with the people we're proud of, we did have our Legacy Foundation breakfast and we had a lot of educators there and we were so proud to have quite a few I think the most ever from needles and so we had Mrs. Webb, Dr. um Dr. Wilson and Stacy Martinez. They all earned grants for their uh classrooms and then it was really cool too because we didn't have the big winner. >> I know I was SAYING ANYWAY I KNOW DR. Cameron was our guest speaker and so just made us all proud. He did a great job >> thanking our teachers very appreciating. So, yeah. >> Oh, thank you, >> Mr. Marie. Got it all there. >> Uh, at the middle school, we're uh when I
020printed this, we were at a little over 93% uh close to 94, uh, attendance. So, that's that's really good for us. I know we did get hit hard the last couple of weeks with the flu A or whatever it is that's going around that that caught our eighth grade really hard. Um, but most of them we're doing short short-term independent studies. So, I think we're going to recoup all of those days um once everything rolls through. Um, I had announced at the last board meeting that our basketball teams, the girls teams both took first place in their tournament. So, I included some pictures this month. We didn't have those last month um with their trophy. Um so, that was good. We celebrated them for a little while. Um we had our dance um in January,
021our January 30th we had our winter formal um where we nominated royalty and and elected royalty. So you can see those pictures. Even had some Miami Peak brought their royalty, too. Um so it was cool. There was a lot of students there. It was packed um for that two hours. Um good night was had by all. Um and then the day before that we celebrated our gold and silver cards uh with our pizza party. Um, we had 54 students at the middle school that earned all A's or all A's and B's. So, we gave them pizza, uh, cookies and a drink, and then they got to seven, they get to miss their seventh hour and hang out outside doing some different games and things like that put on by Miss Castile. Um, so she did
022a really nice job with that. Um, and then on the I have CDS attendance on there at just below 80%. Um, we are moving a couple of kids again. I've got one coming back to the middle school. Um, and I think we've got one student who's going online uh from down there. So, um, be some things happening at at CBS also. >> Oh, and we had one of the, uh, we had one of the, uh, winners for the grant, too, for 500 at the school. >> Oh, okay. >> Ela Mado won 500 for her STEM club. >> Awesome. Thank you. Hey, Mr. Well, Marie said EVERYTHING THAT YOU KNOW LET me go first. Um, our current enrollment at Needles High School is 240 students. Our attendance percentage is 93%. I do want to congratulate Legacy
023Foundation did honor so many of our Needles Unified School District teachers and I was fortunate I had three of them. One of them being the big awardee. Uh James Sloan uh was awarded $2,500 from Legacy Foundation. Stephanie Eastman was given a $500 grant and Christy Cornelison was also given a $500 grant uh for science. So, I was very happy to be able to celebrate them and and just a huge shout out to Legacy because I really do think they do a great job of promoting educators and giving back to education with the money that they raise and making sure that they include needles in everything that they do. Uh we have the Legacy Connection uh bus coming at the end of the month. They want a list of names of kids that can benefit from
024getting coats and clothing and things like that. and they never they never leave us out. So, I I'm I'm grateful that they always include us. Also, uh Matt Froel received a $1500 grant from the Tri-State Women's Group um to purchase additional weight room equipment. So, he uh is in one of the bottom right picture. And then we also have uh Miss Kimberly Bro. It was counselor's week February 2nd through the 6th. So I wanted to give a shout out to Kim for all the work that she does with our students and meeting with them and getting them on track for graduation and for the next phase of their life lives. And then also uh Kim oversees our interact and one thing that our interact club does every year is they make sure that a Valentine
025gram is delivered to every student on campus. So her club puts it all together. They cut out the hearts. They put all the little Hershey kisses in the bags and decorate them. And every kid on campus gets a Valentine on Valentine's Day. And that's done by Interact. Then if you move over to the young lady in the center holding the eye, uh Mrs. Eastman's class is dissecting the sheep eyeball in science. And then right next to the picture uh with the young lady with the eyeball is our one of our students, Safia Blake. And I just want to say a shout out to her. She has made the most incredible posters for our seniors. If you go in the gym, you would at senior night, she did a special poster for every senior. And that
026takes a lot of time. And she's so talented. So I she deserves to be given a shout out. So And then Right above Matt Bromel's picture is a picture of Shiva Baka. Uh Jacqueline and Shiva uh run the Paliba Community College campus here in needles and they've been working really hard with our students to get them all enrolled in some college courses so that they can take them parallel with the courses that they're taking at the high school. and Shebam comes up and meets with our students one on- one and walks them through the registration process, how to get them online, make sure that they know how to check the portal. And I just it means a lot to us because then they're making a connection with Palver employees, so when they go down, they
027already know who she is and they can seek them out for additional questions. Then what's new is our clothes closet. Uh Mrs. Gina Calderon, Chris Tacy, Lori Orasa, and Michelle Zunter worked over our last break and Christmas break came in a few days and they organized the high school middle school clo clothes closet. We've got racks up. We've got uh it all cleaned up. They brought in a student from county, Charlie Cado, who helped select make selections of the clothes because what was happening is a lot of the clothes were being dropped off and we were just were not a thrift store. >> So, some of them were like clothes for all kinds of ages. So, Charlie helped uh the ladies sort through and say, "This is what works for kids. Keep this. Don't give
028this." And then we donated what we didn't keep back to St. Vincent. So, it's working really well and Mrs. Calderon is running it like a like a store. They get to go in, they get to shop. We've ordered some special bags. We're putting the clothes in special bags so that when they walk out, they're not just walking out with the clothes or a grocery bag. We're trying to make it a really nice place for them to go and walk away with some nice clothing. So, >> if you ever want to go >> Yeah. Absolutely. It's >> it it's really it's turned out to be really nice. >> So, other than that, everything and we're off to state tomorrow. Our teams will have a a uh send off at 8:00 a.m. If you're in the neighborhood,
029you want to see the bus, it's going to go down Washington through the Vista Circle and head out and get on the freeway and head to Reno. So, we have all the kids coming out to the curbs to cheer on our two teams. And like I told them, bring us back to state titles. So >> thank you. >> Y >> um at our enrollment holding at 32 students, our attendance rate is 97.4%. Our peak is 84 students and our attendance rate is 94.6. Going well there. We started February with the 100th day of schools. 100th school is always a parent engagement event at both sites. So we started with breakfast at Monument Peak and then we break down into 10 separate stations all over the campus. Um this year with our ninth graders we um
030included them. They had their own station so they came up with the activity for the students to do. They did 100 a 100 pixel art station. So they made all the samples and they drew all the instructions to the kiddos when they came in with their families. Um from there I headed to Jimi for uh lunch with the parents and then we had similar engagement activities throughout Chimoi with our with our families to celebrate the 100th day of school. Um they had a great time there. They love to make the crowns and the 100 eyeglasses. It was just it was a lot of fun. Um from there we have been um celebrating the winter Olympics with our ELO program. So we've had two winter Olympic days. One was a Saturday school and we did part
031two this past Friday and our teacher I don't know who's having more fun. Our teachers or the students but two teachers came ducked out in their snowboarding gear. They brought their snowboards. So the kids got to practice getting on their snowboard. Um see what that was like. This past Friday they had a broom hockey tournament. They did mock bob sledding. Um they just they had a fantastic time. >> How did you do that? >> I watched those bobs. Maybe we should. >> Um then we also um went fishing. The community partners always very generous and kind to include us in all of their outlining school activities. They came um first to our school site and taught the kids how to cast, how to tie knots, how to identify fish, all in preparation for the big
032kid fishing day. And so we went down there with all of our students and caught way too many fish. >> Um it was just incredible throwing lines out, catching fish. They were so excited. So that was I don't know if our bus driver was as excited as we were that we had to bring home, but they had a great Okay. So, next item, Native American Education Committee. >> We have our next meeting on Thursday, >> 10:00 a.m. Arizona time, 9:00 a.m. California time. We're going to have a couple people come down. Ma's going to try to make it. She's in Sacramento on Wednesday. She's going to try to fly to Vegas Thursday morning. I'll pick her up, bring her down. and Panda from CSU SD. He's coming down with one of his members staff members
033um to visit. And then there was one other thing her name slipped my mind. >> Oh, you have. >> So, we got a lot of people come down, a lot of stuff going on. We haven't had a meeting in a while. So, um we're meeting at the uh for Education Center on Thursday. >> And we had an amazing visit at this university. They were we were pampered. We ate so much. >> We ate so much. I told Sher and I said, "I used to stay in this fancy hotel." They had they had cooked to order omeletts at the hotel. I'm like, "That's not where I But it was really great. >> Like we ate like two hours. Oh, they got us. They went we took to a restaurant on Tuesday night that is that only
034serve breakfast and lunch, but because of Panda and they know him and he worshiped them, they actually opened the restaurant so that we could go and I believe the the father that owned the original family that opened up. He is Native American or she is or or she's Native or he's a family. And so it was so it was awesome. We had the whole restaurant to oursel. >> Yeah. >> It was really good. So, we're going to continue to try to build on that and continue to go back. So, >> it was a great experience. >> Okay. And then our our student record here is probably >> All right. So, announcements. The next regular meeting of the board of trustees is scheduled for Tuesday, March 17, 2026 at 5:00 p.m. will be held here in
035the high school district board room. The H public comment okay now we'll move to I presentations I ready data for. Okay. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. point every time. No, I got it. Are you okay? Hello. >> All right. So, uh, last year we did an I already uh presentation as well and so I did keep some of the same slides just as a review of um kind of after a year even I was like what the heck? So, uh here we go. Uh just it's our benchmark is uh three times a year. We do one uh in the beginning of the year and then we do one midyear which we just uh we just took about a month ago and then we do one at the end of the year and then in between that's where
036our teachers plan they analyze data they do student goals and then we work from there to see where students are. So, real quick, it is a diagnostic test. So, it does break it down to skill, the skill level for each individual students, which is amazing. And it just helps the teachers really individualize every single student's education. And it is also uh an adaptive test. So, it does if the student answers questions correctly, it will continue with more challenging questions. Or if the student is struggling, it will move down. So, you you get a more accurate view of where the students are. and just in Vista in general. Um after the second uh diagnostic exam, this is where we're sitting. That first is the light shaded one is the first diagnostic. And so our benchmark has
037improved just we want the green to get bigger. We want the red to get smaller. So our benchmark students have improved about 50%. And I left last year's on there because last year that was our first year uh using I Ready. We weren't as adept as using it this year. So I feel confident in that 15% this year. And then our intensive we do want that uh red to decline. So it did decline about 10%. And that was in reading. And then in math um our green is looking small. So we really want to increase that green. And it did increase about 10% this year, five from last year. And then it um that red thank goodness decreased to about 20%. Which is a a good indicator that we are working towards that. Just as
038uh each grade level again we want that green from diagnostic one to two to increase and it looks like it is heading towards that trend especially in reading. We do see kind of an interesting uh I guess information in the data. If you look at kindergarten and first grade, we don't have a lot of red there. And then all of a sudden in second grade, we're noticing more red. So, we spoke as PLC teams. And I'm I'm excited about we're sending uh some first grade teachers and some second grade teachers to an intensive it's called letters training. It's really the science of teaching reading. So, we're sending those teachers to this training to help uh see what are we doing between first and second grade to find that red trend. Then as you move on
039um second, third, fourth and fifth, the red is declining um some and the green is increasing. And then in math um we do we we have been focused a lot of reading and just looking at this data we did talk about we need to start pulling small groups in math which I already makes it very simple to do that and I kind of have some slides showing that all right and so as teachers uh get the data they diagnose it in their PLC's here's just a couple of teacher worksheets that they did um in their PLC's they look at their individual data but then they also talk as a grade level. So they did groups students into um small groups as according to like specific skills that I has shown us and then they also
040take a look at how many students are at benchmark um and then their typical growth and their stretch growth. All right. And then from that grouping, uh, here's just a slide from the I Ready program. So, you can actually hone in to your whole class. And then I've, um, made a little box around just one student in particular. No, normally the students names would be there. So, as I look at this student, uh, he is doing well. He's got um by third grade they don't do phmic awareness but he does have his phonics and his um uh site words in the green level and then if you look his vocabulary and then to his comprehension of literature andformational text is where we're at. And if you look at there's a red square that's an alert
041and then you also look he has a yellow flag. So that kind of tells us that he did not take his time on this test. Probably specifically his comprehension because that would have been a longer portion of the test. So that's an easy fix for teachers to meet individually with that student. Hey, take a look. Here's your goal. This is what we want to do. You need to take your time because it shows us right here that you have it. So just kind of an easy way to hone in. And then the next slide shows even further. So here's what we would show that student. Here is your diagnostic report. So you can see there he's got that graph where he's reaching towards that typical goal. He's actually almost there and we still have about
042a a quarter and a half of school. So we're we're thinking he's going to reach that typical yearly growth. He does need to get up to that stretch goal to help him get back on grade level on all um aspects of his I Ready diagnostic. And this is just an example of a reading. And then as you look there, you can also even go further and target where he needs to work. Those little down arrows, you can click on those and it will be it will go even more specific. So I think with literature, he's going to have to work on probably um compare and contrast themes, um reading elements in order for him to raise his um strategic level to a green level. So, it goes pretty deeper, you can even click on those
043individual tasks and it will give a teacher activities they can do. >> And as and as teachers work in their own small groups and sometimes they'll see um oh, I have a big group here. I'm going to have to retach this as a whole group. Students are also getting assigned their individual diagnostic lessons that they they do daily. And typical week they're only going to spend about an hour a week on their diagnostic lessons, but they are uh each student has their own diagnosed lesson that they're taking. And if you look here, about 84% of our students are passing their I Ready at I think 70 to 100%. And in math, I think um it's actually that 94% are passing at that 70 to 100% is really where we want them to be. And as
044they pass um their I Ready, then it kind of just lets us know uh where they're at. And we we continue to look at the reports even past the diagnostic test. And just shout out, uh third grade had 41% of their students already meet their typical growth and 4% meet that stretch goal that if they're behind three years, they meet that stretch goal. They would be back at grade level. Uh Mr. McMahon, he had over 90% of his classmate growth and 80% in reading. And Miss Jus, she had I want to say 58% of her classes at Benshore. So, just some shout outs. There's a lot of information in our already I Ready program. So, we definitely think it's effective and it's a tool that just really diagnoses where students are. >> Question. Thank you.
045>> I did. All right. Um, I'm going to thank Marie for giving all the details on how diagnostics work and all the different reports and how everyone can dig down. And I'm not gonna first. There we go. All right. So, this is starting with Monument Peak. So, Monument Peak and our Ready Diagnostics, sort of our first one where we started our school year and where we're at right now. So, like Marie said, we want to grow the green and shrink the red. And that's exactly what's happening. We increased our um green, our benchmark to 25%. Um this is across kinder through 8th grade. And then we shrunk our red our red. And um I also discovered I actually find it really interesting with the kindergarteners because I found the same thing with our kindergarteners. Um
046kindergarten, first grade, and fourth grade have no students in the red at this point. Um so that that that spans across the community is quite interesting. I'm curious if I'd like to dig down a little bit and see if it has anything to do with those kindergarteners were our TKs and if that is perhaps something that is happening. So, >> um for our typical growth, we are at we've reached 73% of our typical growth. The goal at this time of the year is to be at 50%. We're about halfway through the year, so we're a little bit farther than that to meet our typical growth in reading. For math at Monument Peak, we have 31% at this time in um either at grade level or just above grade level. And we've shrunk our red to
047just at 15%. And again, kindergarten, second grade, and sixth grade, which middle schoolers, wow, no reds. Uh, nobody in red for those three grade levels. And for math, we are at almost exactly the same at 72% having met their typical growth in math from kindergarten to 8th grade. So, we're on a good track there to meet our growth for the year. Moving to Timi. In reading, we have 38% of our students at or above grade level for reading. And we've shrunk our red to just 16%. And again, kindergarten, first and second grade, no students in the red. And we are at 77% of our annual typical growth in reading. Math for I Ready. We're at 32% at or above grade level and we have shrunk our red to just at 9% and we were at
04826% before shrunk it to 9% and again kindergarten, second and third grade all with no students in the red. >> Just a very shallow pole there. >> And we are at 48% meeting our typical growth for math. So sort of just right on target there for this time of year. >> Any questions? >> Easy to read. All right. So, I went um very similar. I just wanted to try to give it to you guys as easy as I could to be able to see. Um so, this was our first reading diagnostic for sixth grade. And again, we're looking at the green and the red. Not looking so good here. Um, and then for our second one, you can see there's some growth there in the green and the red is definitely going down. You can
049see the numbers there. Um, this is the slide my wife said you should have just did these where I put them both on the same page. You can kind of see that growth. >> Um, so again, if we just focus on the green and the red, that's kind of what we're we're seeing very good trends at the middle school for sixth grade and reading. Um, and then the sixth grade math. Again, the green is not very good. This was the first test. Lots of in the red. Um, get to the second test, you see that we're moving in the right direction. Um, the numbers up there, percentages. So, and then again, the slide that kind of shows it all together in one. Um, definitely can see that we're shrinking that red and going green into
050sixth grade. some good things going on in sixth grade with those teachers. Um on to seventh grade uh seventh grade reading. Um these students were very low last year as well. Um so this is kind of what we expected going in uh knowing that uh things were not not good with this group of students. Um but then we're starting to move in the right direction. Um still a long ways to go. Um but as you can see we are definitely making some good movements. Um we just need to work more on that that red. Um even converting some of those just into the yellow would be would be good for us. The yellow is just one year behind. So that's seventh grade reading. Seventh grade math very low. Uh we don't have anybody who's above
051grade level. And then just a couple that are on grade level. Um that's at the start of the year. Um and remember that our math class was a class that we had a substitute for about nine weeks. Um so uh I want to congratulate Miss Dana Mills. She's doing some amazing stuff with those kids that she moved in. I think just in November, early November I think she took over. So really good growth out of that group in my opinion. for uh you know a teacher who took over mid year. That's really really hard to do. I've done a lot of that in my admin career moving teachers in mid year and it's it's never easy. So congratulations to her. She's doing wonderful stuff. Um and there's those two charts together. Uh looks really really
052good when you see them side by side like that. The red didn't shrink much but boy that green really took off. Really took off. Um, and then eighth grade, um, doesn't look too bad. In the green section here, we've got six eighth grade students who actually attend math at the high school. This is reading. Um, and they were a pretty good strong group in reading last year. Um, and then here's the second test. We're really moving in the right direction with those kids. Um, and again that classroom is a classroom that had a substitute teacher for about nine weeks with when when Miss Phelps was out on maternity leave about six or seven weeks, I guess. So, good for them for for continuing to grow. Good for that sub. We did a nice job filling
053in and keeping them moving in the right direction. Um, and there's those two graphs side by side. Definitely some good things going on there. Um, and then our eighth grade math first one. Um, like I said, we have six students who are actually taking high school math. That's probably what you're seeing in the green there. They did take our diagnostic test at the middle school. Um, lots of red. Um, but as we move, we see some growth in the right direction. Um, and then we see those two graphs together. Again, the red really dropped down there. We moved a lot of kids into the yellow uh and and a few kids up into the green as well. Um so things at the middle school are moving in the right direction. We definitely have some work
054to do. Uh the teachers have looked at this data and they've analyzed it and and they are doing some small group stuff and looking to move more kids and keep things going in the right direction so that that we finish strong. And that's it. Any questions? >> Thank you. All right. Y cap the gift that KEEP >> YOU'LL KNOW WHO are this morning. It's just the document that keeps on giving. It's not as fabulous as these presentations. Um, but it is a midyear review of LCAT. So, we are going to look today just at outcomes, what we're doing with our four goals. Remember, this is just a snapshot of where we're at in January. We'll come back for a board adoption at the end of the school year and and we will look to see
055what we've met, what we haven't met, where we spent more than what we thought or less than what we thought. So, moving into goal one, uh remember goal one is increasing the ELA and math, which I think we're doing some of that with uh I Ready. Uh we want we focused on lower class sizes, which is ongoing. We have supplemental materials which have been fully implemented. would be one of those supplement supplementary materials. Uh tutoring and instructional support that is ongoing. Uh we do offer tutoring at all sites. Uh Monument Peak, Vista, High School, middle school. So we do have that in place. Professional development of course ongoing. I will say the district has been generous with sending uh teachers and staff members out to get professional development and share what they're bringing back with
056the rest of the staff. Technology upgrades, we've worked with uh it, we've got that fully implemented. And then extended learning and credit recovery, that's always ongoing. Then we've uh bounced over to the spending side. >> We we attach money to each one of our actions and then whether it is contributing and not contributing. So when we talk about contributing that is our contributing to the supplemental concentration funding that we get and that's what we're really pass. So in goal one we had budgeted $1.9 million to spend on goal one to date. We spent about 67% of that which is which is really good because you'll see later that we're not spend as much as available but it doesn't matter at the end of the day they just look at total spend in your supplement concration.
057But I'm really proud of where we're at with goal one, which is really the kind of the main goal, right? That's where we're hitting on the academics and we spent quite a bit, especially on our our lower class sizes, um, to keep that going. I fully expect us to hit and exceed our spending goals for goal one. >> So, the gray is what we budgeted, the blue is what we have currently spent. And we head into goal two, which then your goal two is supporting safe facilities, relationships, attendance, and enrichment. And so with goal two, uh, facilities and repairs and upgrades, I put fully implemented, but I also it really should be ongoing, too, because anytime that we have something that needs to be done when we were on the Williams list, that always seemed
058to always be ongoing. Um, anytime we called maintenance, they come out and fix anything that needed to be done to keep us off the list. So it is ongoing but it's fully implemented as well. Uh we have student school relationships seal the social emotional uh learning. We've sent uh teachers to staff or excuse me professional development. Um we've worked with Jamie with SULPA to get some additional support from SULPA to come out and train teachers. So that is always ongoing as well. attendance, supports, incentives, workshops ongoing, but you can see with our 90 strive for 95, we really have increased our attendance throughout the district. Uh transportation for K5, TK5 is ongoing. Uh parent involvement is ongoing. So this remember this is the midyear review. So everything really is ongoing in the sense that we
059haven't sent out our parent surveys. I've been working with Dr. Cameron. We're getting a parent survey ready to be sent out. Uh we did a school climate survey with high school students. I will be sending them out to middle school and to Vista and getting feedback from those sites. And then I've already held one uh students uh feedback session at the high school and I'll be traveling to the other sites pulling kids randomly to pull them in and ask them what's working well at your school site, what would you like to see improved? what ideas or activities you have for us that we can do to improve or change and get feedback from the students. >> In goal two, we've spent about 53%. It's interesting with goal two. Um transportation is already expended, right? So
060transportation is contributing. We're just over 300,000 in that, but you know, as the year progresses, we'll spend a lot more than that. um we we will typically get well over 700,000 in our transportation cost and that is contributing um but facilities is not a contributing factor. So but we like to track how much money we spent. So facilities is not contributing to the to the spend down of our mill concentration but transportation is and I fully expect this to hit our goals um with our spending in transportation and then with our enrichment activities. We've done a lot with our enrichment activities, spend it on clubs, um everything that we do with our enrichment stuff with the sites that we spent quite a bit of money on that too. And this this is really a good
061year where we're going to fully understand where we're kind of spending with that kind of stuff and be able to to adjust as we move in next year. But I don't I don't see a problem. >> Goal three. Go three is expand courses, visits, uh college visits, trade school visits, and building partnerships within the community. So, college and trade school visits. Uh we did, as I mentioned earlier in the school year, we sent a group to SEMA, which was the automotive trade show. We also have AVID that Ella alluded to earlier, is going out on an overnight visit. They're going down into Southern California. They're spending the night. are going to visit three three colleges, attend a basketball game at one of the colleges, and they're going to get to we have a former student
062who is now attending Cal State Long Beach who's going to give them their own little private tour of Cal State Long Beach. She's going to meet the needles group out there. They're going to go to a basketball at Long Beach. Then they're going to travel back up and hit Cal State Fullerton and I believe McKenna College at the Claremont Colleges. So they're they're thrown in as many as they can within the two days they have. Um I've encouraged them to do one more hopefully by the end of the year that they can go uh visit a couple more colleges and get some more exposure and same for CTE. Then we have also expanded we're working on expanding CTE course offerings uh college level courses with Palibberty College. Dr. Cameron and I had the pleasure of
063meeting with the Palib um dialogue with us about how we could get dual enrollment up and going for Needles High School. So we are having some really good conversations about that and hopefully we'll be able to implement this the next school year. >> Yeah, they just sent us they just sent us a template too. Absolutely. >> And then building local business partnerships for career exploration. We sent out a group of kids through AVID and they are shadowing people in the community at their jobs and reporting back and doing presentations in AVID. So I know we had uh one of our AVID students come shadow a teacher at the elementary um >> kindergarten. >> Yep. So we put them and place them in different uh careers in the community. >> We spend about 41% on this
064and you'll see that number increase at this time of year when we're sending our kids out to visit colleges and do those kind of things. This is typically when we'll see that and we're doing great things. I don't see a problem with hitting our goals for goal three either. >> All right. And our last goal is our alternative schools attendance, but it's also Monument Peak included, and it's called the equity multiplier goal. And it's for the schools in the district that have a high transient rate. And so with that goal, we're focused on chronic absenteeism. And we want to get that down. And you can see from 2223, we were at about 50% for Monument Peak. And you can see it's going down the chronic absenteeism. And I do have to say it is our
065strive for 95. We've really put a focus on attendance and getting kids in school and this SAR holding parents accountable to coming to the meetings and going out and doing home visits and just holding not just the parents the kid accountable and I think it's it's working. And so with the goal for goal four it's add an atrisisk student facilitator that's partially implemented. I am working um with Dr. Cameron and Cecil on coming up with what that job would entail, what it would look like, what um what our expectations of that would be. and Emily from the county, Emily Shaw, has really good insight for us on what we need to do and how we can create a a position that would, I guess, encompass the kids in alternative eda and help them with all
066the different things that the high school kids get as well. um add transportation to CDES and etc and provide additional administrator at Monument Peak which has been fully implemented. The interesting thing you recall about the equity multiplier. This was one of those add-ons to the LCAP a couple of years ago had no impact on our LCF has no impact on our supplemental concentration funding that we have to track in our LCAP. But they wanted they wanted a way to track this. So they added it to the LCAP. Right. What's interesting also is that this is very school site specific money. So minor peak was on there. It's all based on transit rates, right? you're in and out your transit rates and they had a high transit rate for a long time and they were on
067there. Next year I believe you're coming off so we don't lose that of that money the equity multipla find the job but but with that said she was pulling that school was pulling in about $70,000 to spend right CVS is pulling in 50 because 50 is the baseline so the the we're etc and CS so where you know that they're like hey we got 10 kids here yeah here's here. Hey, I got 100 kids here. Here's 70. Right. So, we're learning how to to to maneuver and and get that. The only good the only good thing is we can carry this money over without impact. We just have to figure out how we're going to move forward to keep spending and we have done a really good job of spending um and doing things. But
068that that I just wanted to, you know, reinforce that this has no impact on LCAP LCF or our self concentration funding that we're spending, but it does have impact on we have to track it as a goal. We have no problem spinning. >> I know. I know you don't spending it right. >> All right. And then an overall snap uh snapshot of our next steps. So in February, the student climate surveys went out. They'll go out to the other school sites. That'll hit our goals two and four. In the spring, we have cast testing. teachers are already looking at well they will be tomorrow at my site starting to look at their calendars of when they want to do the testing dates um because at the high school I can speak for us we only
069test 11th graders but we're going to test all students at the high school with our benchmark assessment during that time because we want all our students to become familiar with the interim assessments and we want it to be a testing window so that everyone is held accountable for testing We want all the kids there. We're going to provide incentives and so we're going to take it just not from being 11th grade. We're going to hold all the kids accountable for assessments during that time. So, and then >> and fiscally um we we were given our supplemental concentration was 3.5 million. That's what we budgeted to spend. We don't want any carry over in the next year because that does make you spend more than what you get in my concration. We're sitting to spend over
070two million. right at 60% of our expenditure and that's due January 7th is when I pull the number. So um we're doing good with our with our spending plan based on the rules that actions follow >> and how can families help if you have feedback if parents community members ask how can they help make sure that they're answering the surveys once they go out and all call will go out to all families. make sure that they provide us that necessary feedback. That's how we know if something's working for them or not, or if they have other ideas they want to bring to us that we can bring to DAC and bring to Dr. Cameron and say, "Here's what the community is telling us." Support the consistent attendance. Every day matters. We need kids in seat
071and we need to make sure that everyone's explaining just because you call in and say your child is homesick doesn't mean that it doesn't count in their attendance, >> you know. So, uh just having those ongoing conversations with parents, encourage the reading and math practice at home. And then for grades 7 through 12, just keep asking about CTE. find out what's available, what AP courses are available, how do you get your kid into AVID, what is AVID, and we will continue to hold some workshops. We're working currently right now with Palaverde to have a FASA workshop so parents can come in and complete the FASA because that is going to be on the dashboard. How many students complete the FASA? Uh we also have gone to um paperless at the high school and middle school
072and Vista >> kind of Vista um paperless progress reports. We're not sending them home anymore. We want parents to log on to Aries and get familiar with the ARIES program and know how to read and look at what assignments are missing and what their grades are, what the percentage of attendance is, when they were truent, if they were tardy. So, we've been really trying to push that out with parents as well. Get on earies, be familiar with it. So, but and come see me if they have any feedback or comments or questions because we're open. >> Most of the parents have have the capability and the equipment to do that. I'm wondering. >> Well, they can access Aries from their phone. >> Yes, they it's an app. They can access it from their phone. And
073if any parent needs a hard copy, we're more than happy to print out a hard copy for them. Just call us and we'll print it and we'll mail it home. But what we were finding is you would mail it to one home and then you're getting it back because they already moved to another area or they're, you know, we were they weren't updating addresses and things as currently as they should. So we said, you know what? Let's put it on Aries. That way it gets kids familiar parents familiar with Aries, which what Jeff wants us to move to >> paperless. So, >> we're trying, but we always will print out any site would print out a hard copy for any time. >> All right. >> Thank you. I tried to save you from having to
074read every page of 52 pages of the review. >> All right. information in proposals for negotiation. >> Yes. Uh we have our both of our district sunshine proposal and proposal hopefully we'll meet soon. >> Okay. All right. And then our consent agenda A motion to approve by second. Before we vote, I will read the donation report. We want to thank Chava. I don't know who to read that. And Eric Boser, remember they donated last month also $1,000 to our Needles High School hiking club. James Love is the advisor. It was a second donation because remember last time they all donated. So we thank them for their generosity and thought comments. >> All in favor please raise your right hand. Thank you. Motion carries 4 Z. Action item one approval of the school accountability report cards
075for each school site. Dr. Cameron recommends approval. Would you like to say anything? >> Yeah. These are the uh school accountability report cards for the 2425 school year with all the information from last year that will be posted and approved by March 20. >> Okay. Is there a motion to approve? >> Motion by chair second by Lana. Any questions or discussion? If not, we're all in favor please raise your right hand. Okay. Your motion carries 4 Z. Action item number two, the school safety plan for all sites. Dr. Cameron recommends approval. >> Yep. This a comprehensive school safety plan which is going to give each of you to to review. So we don't publicize it just because it is a safety plan. So >> thank you. Is there a motion to >> the updates? Immigration
076updates are in there. >> Right. Is there a motion to approve? >> I move. >> Motion by Lana. Is there a second? Second by Marilyn. Any questions or discussion? If not, all in favor, please raise your right hand. Thank you. Motion carries. Scor. Item number three, Williams moniitored school quarterly report for FY 2025 to 2026. Dr. Cameron recommends approval. >> Yes, this is a Williams report. We had some mis assignments but some of those were actually corrected. Um against last year the mis assignments were for last year. >> Is there a motion to approve? >> Motion by Maryland. Is there a second? >> I'll second. >> Second. Any questions or discussion? >> No. Monitor Williams. That's when they come and check and see. >> Yes. >> And this is from last year or >> some
077of this from last year. This sign's up. >> Okay. So, have they been here this year? >> Not yet. >> All in favor, please raise your right hand. Thank you. Motion carries 4 Z. Item number four, board approval for redemption hours of instructional assistant at CDES from 6 hours to 5 hours. Yeah, this was a position that we reduced the hours to to create a three-hour position. So, we had one employee uh from toy come up to the middle school and then another employee wanted a different position and this helped satisfy that position. >> Is there a motion to approve? >> Motion by Lena. Is there a second? Second by Sheridan. Okay, any questions or discussion? If not, all in favor, please raise your right hand. Thank you. Motion carries. 4 Z. Item number five,
078wave second reading, review and approve first reading, our update on board policies. And administrator, Rick. >> Yes. >> Okay. Um, Dr. Cameron recommends approval. Yes, we have um 450, 1445, 5125, 5145 are immigration uh policies that that must be approved with state law. Um 1340 is access to district records and it adds one sentence basically that uh uh tribal financial information as condition or requirement for receive financial assistance from our families is not a verbal record. And uh 43176 is a policy from uh 1992 about management. So it has not been reviewed since 1992 until last couple weeks ago. >> Thank you. >> Okay. Is there a motion to approve? >> Motion by Sheridan. Is there a second? >> Second by Lena. Any questions or discussion? If not, all in favor, please raise your right
079hand. Thank you. Motion carries. 4 Z item number six for approval for the memo of understanding for the CFA job descriptions update and vacant job descriptions abolished. Dr. Cameron recommends approval. Yeah, back in the spring we went through uh the the job descriptions with CSEA, a labor relations uh person um Shady Johnson and our attorney as well and just really smoothed out all the language for it and got it all approved through both groups and uh their 610 process finally came back. So, uh we're able to get this to the board and yeah. So, >> is there a motion to approve? Motion by Sheridan and second by Marilyn. Any questions or discussion? If not, all in favor, please raise your right hand. Thank you. Motion carries. 4 Z. Item number seven, board approval for the
080CSBA delegate assembly information and ballot. Before I was on before I became on the board of directors, I was member of delegate assembly, but I do work with these people. This is the body of CSVA that passes all the legislation, policy platform, and elects the leadership. >> So I think we have right >> there's seven. >> Okay. Yeah, >> there's seven. Yeah, I got six. >> So I move to approve. I'll just say the exception all except um Miss Buchanan. >> That would be six. Yeah. >> Okay. There's been a motion to approve all with the exception of Mr. Cannon and there that's six, right? So, okay. Second by Sheridan. Any discussion or questions? If not, all in favor, please raise your right hand. Thank you. Motion carries 4 Z. Item number eight, board approval
081for the instructional continuity plan for school year 2025 2026. Dr. Cameron recommends approval. >> Yes. So, uh, instructional continuity plans, if you have a situation where we have to close schools for an extended period of time, it's a plan that we can get basically laptops, make sure laptops are out to students so they can um, we have an ability to provide, you know, at home learning, distance learning, whatever it would be called happens, but kind of like there's a co situation or something where schools had to be closed. So, how do we requirement ever really had to >> right >> yeah he has five years and he got it done in less than five days >> is there a motion to motion by second >> second by all in favor if you have no question
082for the office. Thank you. Motion carries 4 Z. At this time, we're going to have a second close session. So, thank you for coming. Thank you for everything we do. >> Maybe just an update if we were able to get an update on the generator at the >> Yes, generator. >> Okay. Update on generator. Anything else at this time? Okay. Is there a motion to adjourn? >> I still move to adjourn. >> Motion by Lis. Is there a second? >> Second by Marilyn. All in favor, please raise your right hand. Thank you. We are journed at 7:33 p.m. Okay.
