001in pre-engineering students learn to think like engineers by using the engineering design process then they focus on communicating ideas using methods like technical sketching and computer-aided design programs the final step is taking ideas and making them come to life using an assortment of prototyping tools like 3d printing laser cutting and other computer controls billing routing machines in class students can earn credits for atlantic cape community college and the rochester institute of technology and can get certified in autodesk cad the faa drone license and aviation weather credits after high school students can work towards a four-year bachelor of science degree or study to get certified at an accredited engineering technical training school once one of those pathways is chosen a student will specialize in mechanical chemical electrical or civil engineering career-related math and science are taught
002as well as technical writing all theories introduced will have an application project that will reinforce the concepts as well as give students hands-on experience career-specific equipment used in class includes 3d printers laser cutters and a wind tunnel just to name a few projects are the core of how we learn in cape may tech pre-engineering some of the larger scale design projects include but aren't limited to puzzle cube labyrinth robotics pumpkin chunkin electrical circuit prototyping drone systems rocketry coastal waterway testing shoreline monitoring wildlife management habitats and more all class levels are involved in pumpkin chunkin this involves designing some sort of manpower engine that will throw three to four pound pumpkins up to 300 feet using up to 500 pounds of counterweight teams that create a safe and working machine can compete at rowan university's annual
003asme sponsored pumpkin chunkin competition pre-engineering is also known for robotics starting with the freshman exploratory class students build small robots to see how robot systems go together to create something that accomplishes a specific task when students enter the pre-engineering program they get more advanced into robotics especially in level 2 junior year students will design build program and compete in the state and national skills usa mobile robotics competition ultimately when a student graduates high school from our pre-end program they'll have a better idea of what type of engineer they would like to be with a lot of basic training and how to think like a problem-solving engineer
