please so our mission the mission of the rosale Union School District is to educate all students so they may become career and college ready toward this end the school Community is committed to providing a child centered learning environment with high expectations for student achievement and parent involvement through common goals next slide please so bark so let's talk a little bit about bark and what it means so bark is is our school's standards and expectations every day on campus B is for be safe A is for accountable R for respectful and K for kind if students meet these goals our school will be a healthy environment every day for everyone next SL please okay so we have some clubs activities new electives Sports in the classroom and my favorites today for today's presentation so in the

first couple months of school we have been having a lot of fun with activities and events our first being our rallies we had a blast welcoming back students with the back to school rally the Red Ribbon rally was a great way to kick off Red Ribbon Week while bringing awareness to the dangers of drugs we also had our first dance the year dances are a great way for students to get together and have some fun with their friends we had over 250 students our Halloween dance a few weeks ago so following our red ribbon rally the next week came even more fun so Red Ribbon Week is always a favorite because of the dress up dayses we dress like minions show love to our favorite teams hold on our boots dress in onone and had

Pride for our country next SL please the end of quarter 1 Bulldog day came around parents tged along with their kids for the day to experience Middle School life it was fun to show our parents what we do every day on our campus they got to go to all our classes where we work together to play games solve problems and Escape Escape break out of Escape rooms the Color Run is another event from the first quarter that students have been thrilled about for weeks Apex came out to help PTC fundraise for our campus students who raised money got to participate in a color run at the end of the week next slide please so let's talk a little bit about some of the clubs on our campus first we have tabletop Club tabletop Club is

a group of kids who enjoy board games such as Dungeons and Dragons they meet every day in Mr Parker's room next we have drama this is an opportunity for students to channel their acting skills and another club is CTE which is also known as career career exploration students who are not in the elective get a chance to learn the modules and get hands-on experience in different careers so it is an elective but if you really want to do it and you don't get it as an elective you still have a chance to learn some modules and the last club we have is by far my favorite campus life is one of the most popular clubs at the school it is a current County organization that involves lots of games bringing students together in a positive

Community next slide please so this year we have we have lots of new ected choices including sign language Spanish 2 expanded Project Lead the Way science exploration study skills and some new modules in career exploration let's talk a little bit about each one so starting with sign language this is a brand new program in our school where students learn different hand phrases and basic forms of communication so anything from letters verbs nouns just basic forms of sign langage and last year Spanish was introduced to our school Miss Kion and Mr R are doing such an amazing job um Spanish 2 is an accelerated class for students only who have completed the Spanish one course so you have to do like the basic course which I did last year it was really good and if you

want to keep doing Spanish you can take the accelerated class students get to learn more about cognates in the Hispanic and Latino commun communities expanded project leadway um it's really been transformed over the last couple of years there are three different courses for seventh grade design and modeling is just the beginning students get one semester to build hexed courses and design online however this year Mrs Hashim the Project Lead the Way teacher has made an equal two classes for each course eighth grade classes are year long and include Medical detectives where students study bacteria and conduct medical research and automation robotics where students learn how to construct robots as well as learning how to code them Mrs Hashim has been going above above and beyond to keep the programs running for our school I am

in the Automation and robotics class and it has been an amazing experience Collective that has been added this year is science exploration Miss Miranda an eighth grade science teacher works with our SDC students with Hands-On scientific exploration study SK study skills is an elective that is helpful for students who need more time to focus on their regular studies so they do get to learn some new things but if they need more help on their like homework things like that this is an elective that can be really helpful for some kids they also learned skills needed to help their academic future and brighten their education and our last elective is one of the most popular at our school last year was when career exploration was brought to RMS it's a great opportunity to learn more about

what you might consider doing for your future there are all types of modules that students get to learn about and maybe discover their own personal interests with the fresh new year for the course it was time to add more modules like and drone energy and power computer graphics and Welding are four new modules that have been added to this elective and students are really enjoying it next slide please so now that we've got on electives and our clubs all the way let's talk a little bit about our sports teams the volleyball teams did amazing this year and they won a current County championship against Norris and season was incredible we also have basketball tryouts this week these teams are the best of the best when it comes to school competition drum line is gearing up

for their competition season that starts in December and they are sounding great in Color Guard practicing hard on their routines as well as cheer who had their first compet who has their first competition in December school spirit is high and they are some of the hardest workers on campus next slide please learning in the classroom is huge students have been participating in a variety of Hands-On learning activities in the classroom we get the opportunity to learn by collaborating with others participating in simulations and doing activities that help us understand what we are learning on a deeper level so as you can see on the slides um students in science class are engaging in a lab there career exploration we have SDC we have American Sign Language at the top and then we have history and

I believe that's from the table SL please well we had to say The Best For Last of course it's my favorite things about this school I've been doing a lot of fun things in class but building our Rover and automation robotics was something I looked forward to every day never another favorite of mine is English belor in Mr Garner's class is the best because I love the class and our teacher is really funny and outside the classroom I say the red rhym rally because I felt like it made me more confident speaking in front of the entire school so I I really like doing that and then just hanging out with my friends because he doesn't like hanging out with their friends next slide please well that's all she wrote for today everyone but this

is just the beginning for our school a huge thank you to Mrs Thompson and Mr Turner who have been so amazing and took the time to bring the slideshow to life and another thank you to Mrs lman and District board members for having us here today are there any questions I before Gary gets started I'm always so amazed your so facts about the school and I love new El because every El there te your entire life study skills management career exploration is wonderful so um anyway good for you and I'm glad you're taking time out of your busy schedu with your friends because that's all really important and I always have to say when when I heard about twins being born because of Carson's Grandpa and I work together High School District it was so

exciting it just just awesome I know's thank you thank you so much what electives have you taken I might have missed that you might have said it but so like this year or last year since you were there okay so last year I started with um music appreciation and then I had project leaway so the design and modeling class and then I also had Spanish in the second semester and career exploration for the second semester so that was seventh grade and I really like those electives and then this year both of mine electus are year long so I'm doing automation robotics with Mrs hashen from away and then I have ta a teachers assistant okay and tell me Walker's favorite elect got this I'm going to say project Le the and my last one is

why is Campus Life your favorite of the CL it's just my favorite because like getting to be with my friends from like church and stuff and playing games and like having little lessons so that's like a Bible club and yeah and does it take having one of the teachers to volunteer their time to come and be in the room yeah sort of because a teacher just has to like you said kind of have to volunteer the room but we have have like designated people like um the cap Parts every Monday well it warms my heart that that's your can't believe nobody asked about this was were people kissing a pig and if so what was going on there so this was at the red ribon rally so we had like a fun laser so each

teacher got a jar and if their jar reached $40 or more they had to kiss the pig at the rally so there was like a lot I know the entire H the entire history Department had to kiss the pig so Mrs Thompson and um Mr Turner and Mr Davis also had to kiss the pig so it was it was pretty fun do you know where got the pig where it came from uh so missor a science teacher I think she knew someone that like owned the farm or like lifestock and then they brought one of their pigs that's pretty funny thank you very much um any other questions for Carson okay um well Carson um I'm going to give you a second to introduce anybody here um that's here for you can be family friends

Guardians staff whoever you'd like to introduce well make stand up oh go for it okay so starting with my parents Sarah and Ryan my brother my twin brother Walker he's also a student counsel then I have my friend Jake he's also counil and his mom and then we have Mr Mr Davis Mrs Thompson I almost called you zo Abigail Abigail and and then we have Mrs Rogers Mrs Hall and Mr Bono from American Elementary which is my Elementary School awesome well thank you very much and oh we have Leah too um we're going to go ahead and hear from your principal right now and then maybe between you and your family decide because at that point we go on into the more kind of technical business part of it and sometimes people want to leave

because they want to get home to get to their homework or or lunch or dinner whatever so um we'll go ahead and listen to Mr Kevin Turner and then we'll we'll see if you'd like to get get out at that moment all right so 3.3 School site presentation um Kevin Turner Rosell Middle School principal welcome have to follow that okay I I I almost just turned in one slide that said what Carson presentation well good evening um thank you for having me here like to talk a little bit about what's been going on at Rosell Middle School the past few months um a lot of what you're going to hear from me are things that Carson has talked about um and I'm just going to go into a little bit more detail with some of

them um as you've already heard we had great start to the school year both Mr Davis and I are excited to show you some of the things going on at RMS speaking of Mr Davis which he's gonna hate that I'm doing this right now but part of our presentation is talking about what's new at uh Rosel middle school so while we prioritized talking about um our new teachers in the classroom um I just wanted to stop and thank him for not only just helping with this presentation but overall he's been a really important part of our positive culture on campus and just a hug overall for um our students and staff so we're excited to kind of talk with you a little bit about what's been going on so um first of all let's take

a look at our mission but I did have little clicks that you you can click those little PS too our mission statement here I know that Carson had read it earlier but I'm not going to read it again but I just wanted toing a child center learning environment uh we decided to put a lot of focus on that this year um so um we really want to challenge our campus to find ways to to impact the environment for kids which we know is important everywhere but especially for Middle School um students and so we'll we'll talk a little bit more about that later um so as I mentioned before there was a lot of new things that happened this year um and so due to our growing enrollment at Rosel Middle School we've added some

new classes that you've heard from Carson already um we did also add a social studies class and a science class just to meet those enrollment needs um and then we needed to add some electives as well um since student students get two electives it was a little bit of a of a great challenge to have for us um meeting the needs of those at the end of the year last year we took a survey kind of to see what was in high demand um from our students and so we kind kind of adjusted and made additions based um some on some of those results from the survey so um our Spanish class as Carson talked about um we added a second one for students who had taken the first one and we're actually working with

the high school district on kind of how that's going to look for prerequisits um moving forward uh our sign language class which is a super popular class taught by Mr Garner is something that that has been new um in Project Lead the Way while we've had a lot of these elements already that Carson talked about uh we did add that automation robotics class that works specifically with the robers um which you'll see on display in a video just a little bit later on uh we're continuing with our Medical detectives class which works on some basic CSI type stuff when it comes to diseases and outbreaks and they're always it's a fun class to just walk into because they're always working on something whether that's like which antibiotics work best with this particular disease and is

it's pretty cool and then as Carson talked about uh design and lot it's not like a bow or anything in our design and modeling the class that works with Tinker cat in order to build some basic like architecture designs yeah projectly the way super popular with the students Miss has was doing great things with our students and really embody that Hands-On challenge that we have this year um study skills again is an important change that we knew we needed to kind of make some time for students who just need that little extra time for organ organizational skills time management um to kind of tips and tricks and so that's been a great addition this year um and then career exploration um you know added some new modules again we'll get to visit those a little

shortly um and then we did move on into year-long electives so last year that's why president had um semester last year and then this year he two uh we just needed to make the electives year long so that's been a change as well and a good one um and then um and so we have increased some of our uh career exploration modules due to the you know extended year and students being able to take two electives so thank you Miss tuer for working with us and making all of that happen for our students um I did Skip science exploration purposefully because um that's an exciting class where our SBC students um are integrated with our jet students in classes design kind of just to work with the magic that's that is science and so miss

Miranda our our science exploration feature really has kind of made that come alive so I thought with our first little feature this is a little video that's kind of gone around internally um and I thought it would be a good thing to share as well so just a little snippet of what goes on uh in the class that's [Music] one more time and then on the right here are just some other um Hands-On learning that we um have uh Incorporated in our in our some the new elective so this some sign language and um great song is going to be my head um none of our Hands-On Focus can happen without teachers and this year we have a lot of new teachers so with some retirements and added classes uh we welcome 10 uh new

teachers to our team um and you can see them there on the left side one thing I did ask them was just real quick other than their picture which they're very happy about going around taking their pictures uh which is just kind of give me something positive or your favorite thing about working here so um as you can see see there there's a lot of lot of positive there miss baric says whether I'm talking with a member of the of admin office staff or fellow teacher I've always met with kindness support or advice or help when needed I've never felt so welcomed in any previous job um as Brooks said how welcoming the staff and admin is any problem that I've had this year there's always someone willing to help and encourage me through it

this brelis our science teacher as a new teacher at RMS I'm overwhelmed by the amount of support I receive from my school leadership my science department especially from students parents um everyone's been so responsive and generous with their time energy and resources gun says my favorite part about working in RMS so far is the amazing and supportive staff here at school at the school side of the district level being a new teacher can sometimes be a struggle but everyone here is so supportive that I don't feel like I'm a new teacher Mr Parker I'm really grateful to have welcoming and supportive colleagues and my students are bright uh and kind I also love seeing how creative my students can be Miss Port said my favorite part about working at RMS is the relationships I'm able

to build with my students and team Mr rank it's the overall unity in learning expectations and staff celebrations greetings in the hallways from students and staff even when a day go sideways which it never happens at Middle School ever there's always a moment to laugh I'm grateful to be a bulldog watching our students park Mr shabon which this is a very if you know Mr this is such a Mr Shone thing to list them out and in this way but Mr Turner is terrible I mean witty jokes um there's context to that if you want to know later U Mr Davis's dance moves which Mr Moore when you do the questions at the end if you wanted to ask him about showing the dance moves I'm sure he um and Kenny's creative greetings friendly custodial

staff cheerful smiles from the office staff and then of course warm and welcoming staff students and parents that make make excited about showing up for my job every day and then Mr Sullivan I love the collaboration and teamwork uh everyone is open to here at RMS I've been welcomed with open arms and everywhere I turn someone is willing to help or point me in the right direction to get help and Mr San's actually not new to the district he's just new to our school site and then miss Torres uh support everyone on this campus is available willing to help with any question I have um this is huge so um I mean one thing I can say about our teachers is that they they love kids um and they love helping each other love kids

as well um so you the amount of the word support that you see on there um is colleagues um and so um we just really that's just part of the culture at Rosell Middle School we want to make sure that we help each other do the be the best that we can be to help um help help our kids um um and then they they also love working hard to build lessons um to engage our students so speaking of Engagement that's the last thing um that I wanted to talk about I wanted to shout out our staff first of all for taking this Hands-On engagement thing to heart um a while ago I um on a random day kind of took my camera out to a few few classes that I popped into um and

just asked students to talk about what they were learning in the classroom and showcasing that hands on engagement uh so I thought I'd share um what I saw that day and what the students were doing hey guys tell me about your Rover so Weil it like straight from scratch we did all the wiring and now we're testing it around nice is about what you're doing what what what is this lab it's separating yeah you make your own and you put into like hydrogen carbon oxygen sodium all your things and you put like dots on them to make a a so the different colors are what yeah they different types of elements sodium we put this any sodium Mr Turner what's up what are you guys working on uh we are building a Rover and what

how are you doing that show me teach me we take we take the 15 that goes right in the middle we take a 13 beam that this is a 13 beam and we overlap we overlap by three put a put a two it that we need a screwdriver so what is your end goal what is it supposed to look like a long supposed to look like a like a r like Mars Mars Rover what are those things right there RC beam are what are you guys doing about the Great Compromise the what compromise what is that a compromis between New Jersey and West Virginia and what what is this that you're doing right here we're doing yeah yeah a diam this is New Jersey this is Virginia and this is theise yeah so this is

kind of like what their plan was and their plan and then this is what they came to on each one all right cool show me what you doing show me in the cup your success what if you hold it in the sun and then blow on it and then shake it it melt what are you guys working on we trying to get the bead out of the ice What's that show what what is the what is the it shows energy and the faster we shake the ice the faster um it will melt cuz kinetic energy see what you guys got so what are you working on W huh welding what is it like show me like what what it is that you're doing here oh it's just like they're like connecting these two pieces the

pieces together yeah it's like V okay oh in in in the Hat you can see things you can try it if you want I know you can't see either oh yeah oh that's cool right so what are you doing right now what are you doing right now we're pushing this into here to see what will happen to the blue and it get smaller they get smaller why do you think that is it get bigger why do you think the air pressure okay it's causing it to change cool what is c you guys know what c is so what is that mean you have to you have to do your clim then you have to give the evidence to support your clim and then you have to give the re cool so what is your claim

what was your claim for this our claim was if the pressure if the pressure in the syringe changes the volume of the object will change and what's your evidence that says do you think that that's right so far yes what what's the evidence that shows that um the evidence when we put the Ballo in here the balloon got smaller awesome all right now show me your bonds and now you've got time which one's which hold on wait I we have O2 CO2 CH4 which is this one and how do you know that that's CH4 what what is what's being represented there the carbon and the hydrogen which one's carbon which one's hydrogen the carbon is is okay and then right now he's working on the um and I'm working on N3 what is that like

a lot of gumdrops going to be on that one excited to eat them yes tell me about your so as you know our district uh focuses this year our growth and engagement so um at the beginning of the year we asked our our for Middle School specifically you know what are ways that we can ACH achieve growth through engagement um we decided that if we focus on as much of that Hands-On approach as we could we would see growth and we're already seen um the benefits of that Focus so in the right side here just other classes it's not spefic to the elective classes um so science classes history classes um you know in general that's just been a a big Focus for us this year and that includes my presentation any [Applause] questions you

how many of those 10 teachers were new this year new uh um like Rand new like this is their first year teaching I would say maybe half of them the top my heads like that and is there is there one visit that you've made to a class to an elective to anything at school this year that really affirm you in what you're doing in your job I I don't know that I can say one specifically but I mean that that was just one day that I just walked around minus the r one at the beginning Miss hash did sent me that video um because I hadn't I wasn't able to get around that particular class but um I mean anytime kids are engaged it doesn't even have to be in this way but they're they're

talking with each other the discussing um you know like math for example that's a hard one um it seems to to do like a lot of his hands- on there are ways to do it but um you know we have our our students that are they got whiteboards around the classroom and they're working together collaborating and kind of working on that kind of critical thinking aspect as well so that's a you know the I think that in general pretty much on a daily basis I get an affirmation of our grow well I just want to thank you and thank your staff I know a ton of those kids a lot of them go to my youth grp and a lot of them here go there and knowing that throughout that week you guys this team

have them in our investing I'm apprecia thank you very much principal Turner are there any other questions from the board members or com okay well thank you very much we appreciate your presentation person we will go ahead and move on to 34 Chief administrator of operations report right watches these from home that I don't talk the microphone enough so I got a text message prior so here I am um I don't have a lot for you um today actually um I just have a couple of different updates oh there it is okay I turn it off all right so um just a couple of updates um one thing you'll notice later in the agenda is um an approval for um for another resolution for the the EV bus um grants that we're currently working on

so we're actually working on two different grants um that we're trying to stack to um basically try not to use any funds at all to replace old um buses with new buses um and so there's a couple of things that have to happen for that to happen so we need um EV Chargers um and so we have to work with PG they have some grants that we're working through as well um and so I'm trying to do as little out of pocket as it can possibly do by stacking these grants so one of those is the zes that's the zero emissions school bus and infrastructure project Grant um and so we're actually through the first stages of that we've been approved for that um we don't have amounts yet so we're not sure exactly how

much money they're going going to be reimbursing us for but we do have nine buses in in our district that currently qualify so we made that qualification list already and so we're working through that and we'll see what that looks like hopefully in the next handle weeks um and then also we're using um the sanen Valley Air Pollution Control District um they have a clean uh clean vehicle fuel infrastructure program that we're also trying to stack with um anything we're allowed to so some of them you're not allowed to stack different things but we're working with um a through CBS cells um and really just kind of you know working through the process with them to try to you know get as many grants as we possibly can for this um with with that being

said um a through z bus cells actually brought out a demo for us um was that last Friday um and then or sorry two yeah a week ago Friday um and then um he basically brought trer in a an bus um and let us let us have our way with it for a while and we drove it around um Patty actually came with us um on that trip and so he took us you know once around the bus to show us all the things that are different about this bus um than a diesel um and then we got actually left it there over the weekend for us to test drive with all of our drivers when they came back in from their routes so anybody that was interested that wanted to stay after their morning

route um got an opportunity to drive it around the block as well and I think we had probably 10 drivers or so um they said that it's they're really really nice to drive you know that auto regeneration regenerates the uh the batteries as it breaks um and so there's like you don't have to like slam on the brakes which reduces wear and tear on the brake systems um and they just really you know showed us what we're getting ourselves into as far as the batteries and the battery life is getting much much better um we actually the mileage on on each charge is is increasing at one point it was like 110 miles per full charge and now we're you know we're north of 200 miles with none of our our routes um go above

the mileage that we would need to to be able to utilize it in our district obviously some of the further trips we would have to you know plan ahead and coordinate with other districts to charge Midway through if we were to ever use an EV bus to do an auton trip but it's you know opening doors and avenues for us that way um and then um also um wanted to kind of highlight something that we did this year for voting um a lot of positive feedback from parents and the community in regards to this but um we put up some temporary fencing for election day um and really this was about you know having a visual barrier between our site our school and um and where you're supposed to be for voting um so there

weren't any um you misdirections we understand and recognize that those fences aren't as secure as we'd want them to be their temporary fences we know that if someone really wanted to they could push it over and walk on the campus if they wanted um but it was really about sending a message to the people that were coming on the campus that we're paying attention um we're going to watch we're going to be diligent we're going to make sure in the area you're supposed to be in on our sites um and so we had we had lots of positive feedback from community members talking to principles that were out there in the mornings and just saying hey thank you for doing this um and really just you know trying to keep our campuses as safe as

secure as we can um you know while we try to find alternate locations for voting to happen that don't impact school sites um but we did that on five of our sites um there's a couple of pictures there for you guys to kind of see what we did and how we did it what were the lines like because I know out in front of our all day and the day before just it was it was busy for the most part everywhere I checked in yeah it was it was busy I didn't I didn't go at a time where there was a big line out the door like you know 50 or 60 people waiting or anything like that County yeah I don't think we got to that place where you know it was they were

able to get in and get on their way pretty quickly um especially with the people that were just dropping off their ballots that was you know that speeds things up quite a bit um but um the cool thing about the this is we were actually looking to buy these fences and keep them on hand um and one of the companies that we work with um he he reached out and he was like you know instead of buying them let me donate them to you um and he actually came out on the day up there the day before and helped us set it up which I didn't expect I thought he was going to say hey here's my trailer here's you know 80 or 90 of these Spence these Spence sections have go ahead you know

um but he actually came out helped us set it up up and um so Chris at CS um did did a solid solid thing for us and saved us about $7,000 as as a district which was really really appreciated especially on a day like this putting my County hat on I thank you guys very much it helps us tremendously I know it's so pain but we do appreciate it and we recognize position on yeah and and the gentleman that I spoke to at the elections Department he was I mean I I reached out to him about seven or eight months ago to Say Hey I just I need to know what your plans are what they look like because I know they're very very specific about where the signage goes how they how they walk

onto the campuses and so he was able to share all those plans with me so that we could design our how we would put the fences up to not impact or or change any of the processes that they already have in place so that when their election people show up that day there weren't any changes to anything they they they could follow their plans and their guide books and make sure that there weren't any you know any any negative um consequences to the fing that we put up so yeah all right that that's it for you guys well I want to say that um the EV bus is and I was a little skeptical about yet but it's so quiet it is so ni and um I heard what the bus drivers say it has

actually a tighter turning radi than some of the older bus and um it's just clean and it's just amazing it's beautiful I did Express a concern about um if we go that direction would it put any of our people's jobs and jeopardies in the maintenance part and it will not thankfully because there are other things that it's it still requires maintenance but it's much cleaner for us which I really appreciate that and then um I hope that our board can send a thank you out to CS spening that's wonderful just let appreciated that because it means so much to parents nowadays um I know there had been concerns in the past about our campuses being open and I think it really shows that we are proactive and so thank you and on the um EV

buses what's the time frame do you have any idea what year we will be all electric so after let's see after 203 I'll have to I'll have to look at the exact cut off but I know that that yeah so so basically they won't even sell a diesel bus to us and what's the situation with our Solar charging the buses so one of the things at our maintenance and transportation they did a study to determine how much electricity we were using at the time um and it didn't warrant at that time to have solar panels at our maintenance and transportation now with this being on a separate thing we'll have to we'll have to set new Baseline for for the PG project to be able to do the solar out there so we'll have to

go through I believe it's six months to a year of just see how much energy we're actually using on a consistent basis and then we would be able to go the the route of having solar or matching a solar solution to the added expenses of that but we're talking to you now this is a sales guy by the way he's telling me that we're we're looking at you know with with um energy costs what they are today we're looking at three to three and a half um miles of the gallon or or price per gallon um versus what we're pay dies right now which can be anywhere from 450 to5 a gallon um in diesel so we're actually there's some savings there um but this is also what he's telling me I have to actual

you know he's a Sal I had I had an idea that wouldn't be easy but send a bus to each campus you know if that's possible charge the buses at each campuses set up a charging station behind the fence somewhere and just yeah sense or not yeah right now we're working with PGE to actually get a grant to cover all the charging stations for us so so right now we're in in the Ducket for five charging stations with two ports so we'll be able to charge 10 buses how many do we use every day um right now we're using 15 16 buses on a given day so about you know at that point we would have over half of our Fleet on a daily basis E I don't know that the I drive an electric

car and I don't that's what I'm talking about spreading them out spreading them out I don't know that what you've got on it's you can do those Chargers I don't know how the bus Chargers work but if I go to a charger right it's an hour to charge it fully to 100% And it costs me per it is um when we started with it it's really cheap and so what we'll do is we'll have to kind of get a good gauge on what that actually looks like what our usage is and then we design the solar to match what we're using and so we could have some some potential offsets there it's you know it's really weighing out all the options that we have available to us and doing the thing that M that that

U benefits the district the greatest in the long run but it's a 10e cycle yeah before okay good deal thank you problem like there aren't any other questions thank you nor and then I will move on to 3.5 Chief administrator of school leadership report by J um so mosson the principal at Del Rio Elementary um participated in submitting um some recordings of students saying the Pledge of mergence to something that the county office ran and it's called The Pledge of cross Kern so we have received notification that um there was an overwhelming response as you can imagine in Kern County um we have a lot of patriotic quotes So kuzz has graciously agreed to air them on most Mondays and Fridays at 7:05 a.m. um there are three classes that are listed there they're all

at Del Rio Elementary um that's when they will be airing those and kcz will also be posting those to their website if you wanted to check it out there um at 7:05 a.m. we also have um another round of school leadership team meetings with Kimberly green next week so we're welcoming um we welcome three schools at a time for three days in a row um and continue our work on building that multi-tiered system of support building positive behaviors for students and expectations for them as well and then um regarding EVC and elop just a couple of updates the last time I mentioned that we were um we were rolling out registration for flag football that is practice has been underway and the first tournament will be this Saturday and thank you again to rosale middle

school because they have been the hosts for all of these events thus far probably for the foreseeable future as well so thank you for being well and told um uh junior theater as I also mentioned last time uh they actually had their performance right after we last met it was The Wizard of Oz at Independence and it was remarkable um the kids did an amazing job um um we heard from from some students that you know kids have a lot of different personality types and you don't ever really know what is going to be very impactful or engaging or or um what will strike a passion with a student but um there were a couple of kiddos that really really loved it and their parents gave that feedback to our staff that I I think

we found what our child wants to do now so that is always always validating and and and good good um feeling for um our employees and you know for the work that that goes into that um and a thank you to miss Anderson our director of EDC and elop who organized that for us so they're at Patriot Elementary now which is as you know our largest site um they've shifted a little bit they they might not be able to have the same type of production but we know that it will be successful nonetheless um we can we can email you the scheduled date and time of that performance if any of you would like to attend we can do that for future um performances I'll make sure that we do that I really would like

that because theater was my passion when I was in junior high in high school and I thought it was what I was going to do with my life um and it's what kept me motivated through school it really did change my life and it and I did it every weekend I got up early build sets and everything and it's not that could act not it's my found my leadership skills and Stage man being an assistant Direct and skills that as well but I think theat Arts are very important and they're very much a part of my heart and passion so I'm really glad to see that happen I'm sorry I missed this when we were out of town on college tours with our El's daughter well as as do we we we do see Great

Value in Arts and Music um and so it is wonderful that there is funding that has been directed to school districts to um continue to grow those programs so this was just a wonderful and made sense addition to what we're offering here in rosale and then um my final piece for you this evening is that our EDC program is at 1100 students that is the largest um that we have been and you know back definitely in line with our pre pandemic figures that we were seeing a lot of demand for providing quality Safe child care um for an extension of the school day I was going to ask you how you had 1100 students in junior theater I could figure how to do that I all right any other questions for okay thank you very

much for that report and let's see we will move on to 3 Chief administrator of student support report I I turned it off when I was done with my presentation my microphone um just wanted to update you on our president's date here University um September um we had 10 parents attend and complete the classes which I was pretty excited to get all their certificates um because I don't get like their sign up information so it was a surprise when I got those in the mail um which I think is pretty good for our first month um I should be hearing something soon for month of October so we're hoping to increase that um as the year goes on they offer new classes every month um they're four we classes um so we'll see if we

have any repeat customers or any new customers so I'll update you guys as the year goes on and then um as Janet talked about we have school leadership teams next week where we're focused on positive behavior supports um the last two or three weeks um we have been completing a tiered Fidelity inventory with our school sites um it is a kind of a rubric assessment um where they rate their school and their progress that they're making on positive behavior supports um part of that job is I get to go around and talk to students and teachers about how that's going on their site and that is always fun because kids teachers are very nervous when I ask them questions but kids are not they want to tell you all the different things that are happening

at their school even if you don't ask them um but the good thing is is that our school sites are making progress and it's a good time to spend a few hours with them where they can reflect on what they've been doing and get to see how much progress they've made in about a year less than a year actually now so um it's pretty exciting to see that we've come a long way just in the last year the parent University you said it starts over do they receive the same curriculum or the differ of curriculum so there are eight different classes that they can take um that are all the same so they can rotate through each class during the year if they would like to oh like so one is in October one is

no they're all offered every month so you can take um they offer eight classes each month and all eight of those classes are offered every single month but they're the same eight classes thank sorry any further questions I've got a question how are we um presenting that parent University to our parents so how are we getting the word out to them so they actually do it for us Fresno State does the advertising so they send out emails and they also send text messages I wasn't sure like how often that would be but because I'm also a parent in the district I get the text messages quite often which is good because I don't necessarily check my personal email as regularly as I check my work email and so it's nice to get that text message

and they send a link where you can just go in and sign up fantastic I I'll also add that um Felicia who works um in the district office as one of our secretaries has also um worked with Katie Timmons our um e English language coordinator um she has contacted all of our families to speak a second language to see what additional supports and have have also offered these these classes because there is an English language class um so we have made contact with all of our English language parents um by phone great thank you it might be kind of fun um maybe toward the end of the your um parent or even if you just extend it out so select one parent that might be willing to present to the board of How It's Made

A Difference in their relationship with their child or whatever thank you all right no further questions then we will go ahead and move on to 3.7 Chief administrator of curriculum and instruction report this Francis Tu um good evening I have a quick report just so you guys know we will hit the mid uh middle of second quarter uh on Friday so progress reports will go home Friday um It's Kind it's it's flying um I I just have a quick update I just wanted to highlight some of the professional development that we have um going on or that will be going on we just finished a Universal Design for Learning with our fourth grade teachers and our Middle School um teachers we get two days we will follow up with another two days so in December

we we will have one additional day and then um the county will come out and do some um modeling in the classrooms and teachers will observe and we'll kind of kind of dive in and see what they saw um a lot of our teachers um received the training really well felt like they were already implementing a lot of the strategies um and so we will continue to expand on offering that training to additional grade levels as the years move on um right now Katie Timmons is is doing a English language learner um professional development with um our teachers so today we had second and third grade teachers um in the training um she we're pulling out all teachers who have students who are at a level one or two so are very limited in their

um language acquisition and so she's going over some specific requirements and strategies that can be used in the classroom to support our students who are um acquiring the language um in I think the date was moved on me but in January we are going to um do some training with our fifth and sixth grade teachers um California has a new math framework um in the next year and a half we'll be looking at curriculum to adopt so we're going to work on professional development so that we are best prepared to adopt the the best curriculum that meets the needs of our our students and um meets the needs of the the new framework so we'll start doing that training and then there's just a little um picture of our spelling be participants um the curriculum

Department did an amazing job um putting together a great event and it was our um I I had missed the training I was at at a conference but it was um amazing from what I hear wonderful thank you and any questions Michael has another question um has nothing to do with what youve talked about okay if I sound Gruff it is not directed at you or anyone else here there's our test scores the release when do the kids test how long's it been been waiting for test scores it seems like for months and state state tested so we we have some projected test scores um I did do some uh I I did do a release on them earlier we will have our um we just got the Embargo release for the dashboard not all

of them have been released so um next month I can have a report on our on our test sces for you when were those tests taken in in uh April and May of last school year we did a report on projected scores in September project yeah go up go up the ladder this is unacceptable absolutely unacceptable even how how are we supposed to improve our test scores if we don't get test scores these kids are going to be out of school they tested in seventh grade they're going to be out of eighth grade into high school before we find out their seventh grade test scor I'm I'm it's unacceptable so whoever needs to hear that John mindoro and on up on up the ladder to the state I know it's not John and it's not

you it's nobody in this room has any control over it all I know but I am frustrated I can't imagine how you people must feel about it when you you you need these so we can do our curriculum and and well I will I I will tell you we we did do with the data that we have um we did professional development with all of our third through um sixth grade teachers so we had a day um actually in early October where we kind of looked at our test scores um teachers dug in and decided which interims they were going to give based on um the they had in front of them so and we looked at data from their um last year's classroom so that they can project and kind of um determine any

instructional needs they might want to change and then we looked at these are the students that we have in our seats right now what are their needs how are we going to address them we just don't have the released scores which are I think are coming out shortly that's exactly what I'm talking about this team does such a phenomenal job on getting what we need done done right now um and you need those numbers to make those changes make those meetings and the training um differences teaching you need them and it it frustrates me that you have to do your job with oh these are sort of the test scores and you know we're trying to get them to you and and you guys are amazing and you I want you to have every that

you can have to help our students and you do an amazing job but the state would get it together and and get us these we can do better they're supposed to get them out earlier and earlier every single year and today the dashboard was released for district View and the academic scores were not in there so it was chronic absenteeism English Learners suspension data but thank you for everything you do all right any other um comments or questions for okay we'll move on to 3.8 superintendent lemon report for me so just a couple of quick updates um enrollment like to give you a proje or a picture of enrollment uh every month so um um 6,229 TK through eth grade students um 58 preschools uh students for a total of 6,287 we are up 44

students from October and this tends to be the time of year where we do see you know some growth and um you know people moving in um it's still about 17 students down from where we were this time last year but um you know slowly creeping up so enrollment is good um in other news we had another um District advisory committee meeting last month and we continue to you know work with the district advisory and um now that not looking like um major MMA is going to pass of course the results have not been certified yet um it's not looking you know promising they still have about 50,000 um ballots that haven't been counted yet um but um we're going to be working with that Community to start um analyzing some enrollment data so that

we can bring some um to you because we are going to have to address had a couple of really great Veterans Day Celebrations Al andell did a wonderful celebration as well as Freedom Middle School that goes along with their name so it was was great to see um the honoring of our you know on that day and our students participating in that and then just couple of upcoming events um we have a minimum day on the 22nd um moving in Thanksgiving break just reminder that the California school board's Association conference is December 5th through the 7th and then a reminder that we did uh the December board meeting to Monday December 16th um because that has to follow the certification um of the election for our reorganization and I am very pleased to conrat Mr

spickler on another four years it's a pleasure to work with you all thank you superintendent 11 any questions I just wanted to add that uh the Veterans Day celebration at P Middle School was really great particularly for me because my husband's a veteran and he attended this year and I have to say because my husband likes to talk a lot well he has met his match with Mr Sanchez which is great because they're both ex GRE and it was great so my husband tells me now he wants to go every year good be there thank you it was great we're happy to have and the cookies were excellent oh yes they were I wasn't going to do this now but your calendar um and what you just said about the reorganization so typically that would

mean that I would move over there for the dec correct yes okay and what what I'm wondering we what I think what I'd like to see us do and this is my but when we have the superintendent's report and all of your reports I think it I would like to just see us to make staff reports and then you would choose who you want at what time because sometimes it's different and then it cuts the time in between as well and so just one and then they all know in advance who's going when and where it's going to go okay unless you all want your name read out loud every time I don't think you egomaniacs no we're definitely not that right so and we can see if that works better that would solve the

chief administrator of student support report problem but all together and you can title however you want all right all right any other question comments for super okay we'll move move on to 3.9 resignations and retirements we have a handful there resignations so I just want to say thank you to everybody who has served in the rosale Union School District and then I will move on to action items and looks like I need a motion to approve the consent motion second um all those in favor with no names orions that motion carries and I just want to say thank you um it sounds like we have a handful here of new employees so welcome to Union School District and then two general business 4.2.1 second reading and approval following board policy so I'd like to interrupt

here and um kind of wrote a little something out with regard to the policies so um from the early 2000s which is when I started our policies were in a three-wing binder that when you became a school board member they hand Jamie handed me this three ring binder and it was that way the police department too um if I recall correctly many of those policies were created by those previous boards and that those were the policies that we you know worked on and you know years before us obviously times have changed and get a lot more input but that's what I believe a school board is supposed to do set policy and that for our for our specific District um and since that time csba has has created policies I don't know how long they've

been on I believe they were providing things when I first came on oh yes um but they create policies and I may have this wrong so please enlighten with if I do and they offer them to the various districts which are a part of their system and um I'm I'm of the belief that a district may or may not choose to adopt their policy those are just options for us to choose them or we could write our own policy take that information whatever information we might want to come up with and make our own policies because this is the policy setting body for our district so and I all this comes from from my beliefs and convictions telling me that biological boys should be playing in our organized Sports against other biological boys not against

girls and that is what I see a lot of policy moving ATT in that maybe and and so that bothers me um we have four policies that are in this in this group that uh we have more than that in this group that talk about the sex and sexual awareness and choice and what but um [Music] 51457 and and last month in our meeting obviously I brought this up talked about it and Sue mentioned that these things are coming from the title 9 situation and the Biden's modification to title and it it states that you know that new description of gender gender identity gender expression and that's part of these policies so I don't know if you know but Title 9 is currently being challenged in the Supreme Court and they haven't come up they

haven't rendered a decision so I suggest we don't vote on either of those policies until the court delivers an opinion I believe we can just not make a motion on any of those and we can just wait I guess my question is why are we pushing for this the cas is still pending and to my knowledge we've never had a complaint in 24 years we've never we're not a district that has generated complaints and people mad obviously you have time to time and people something not happy about you know the way their child was treated or what have you but we're not getting big problems in these areas that have been made aware to us and so I'm saying there's no harm in way so I would ask you guys if if you would agree

to those one po these these policies that that talk about that can we just not bring those up can we just table those and if we have to we you know someday we might have and then we'd have to vote on where your conscience lies convict okay if you want that I'm just this is point the procedure because you have that listed on the agenda if it if it doesn't get a motion but I see how this second one is like out you would have to vote individually on each one of those things you're in danger of of the NIS discrimination sex based thing so we might not want to move forward on any of these right now just at the risk of non and then reward it mon yeah I I agree with that

that that some of these are very basic and very easy to make a decision on and some of them are very complex and um I think they should be individualized one by one by one I don't I don't like the fact that they the nutrition program is lumped in with sex discrimination and sex based harassment I I think that needs to be separated out um the nutrition program is is pretty cut and dry and um suspension and expulsion and due process and sex discrimination and harassment or very different things and I think those should be each separate we call we've had this many board policy revisions at but we've never had this kind of topic is now such a sensitive many of those were updated because of the changes in Title Nine which are now

being challenged um and could possibly change with new leadership um that is to be coming but not all of those so we could separate those out yes and with with him saying that I don't I'm not complaining that they're all like that because that's how we've always done yeah but we haven't always had what I'm going to call an assault on the way we would run things as a district and now we have to start looking more deep excuse me more deeply at things the only thing that I would tell you is most most of the time we do get the samples from csda sometimes they also come from schools with and again all these are suggestions we set policy we have to abide by law the law comes out we we have to abide

by but you don't have to have a policy for every law that there's no policy that the Bakersville Police Department that says somebody can't murder somebody that's a law so we don't have to go so into minutia you guys are challenged with carrying out the laws at your level was going to add um first of all I'm glad we have this live breath of knowledge up here because there were things I didn't even think about so I'm glad you guys are bringing them up um and I have a question and then a comment do do we have any idea on when we might hear anything from the Supreme Court would it be however the procedure Needs To Go would we want to somehow PSE out the ones that were okay approving tonight and I wouldn't

do it because how it's jized okay you are you could be violating the and if we don't make any motions no action state right and we can bring it back next month different oh but then next time we can we can have those simple okay they could I would suggest they leave off those those ones that deal with children yeah the ones that are being ch um and then make each one stand on its own of the other I would like to see it that way I would too and I I further add the ones that we that you specifically mentioned do we need to get together and looked at the policy together policy you'd have to have a Workshop open to the public and we've had those year you know those workshops over the

years where we've met on a Saturday it's just hard for everybody and it's been draining you could do an ad committee no more than two I guess I'm just saying if we come to the point where we have to get a policy together we could get together in some format and i' say maybe for that we just wait until Supreme Court rle and then so what I'm hearing is for next month uh you'd like us to separate the board policies um and indicate any of the Chang because of Title 9 you want me to bring those back going to leave those off and wait until the Supreme Court has made a decision and then just bring back those that were changed because we needed to make updates for other reasons thank you correct okay so

we do not um take any motions or anything I'm GNA move on to the local assignment op well sorry and if I'm reading it if I read it correctly I think it's the it's the 13123 it's the 51457 maybe it's only those yeah I'd have to go back and and look but majority of those were updated because of title n but I but I have a stack of okay than you'd be able to check your notes so I believe we have to call for a motion but um do I have a motion for the second reading and approval of the following board policy BP 0410 nondiscrimination in District programs and activities seems there's no motion I will move on to 4.2.2 second reading and approval of the following board revisions do I have a motion

all right no motion there then I will move on to looks like 4.2.3 approval to place the teacher on a local assignment option EC 44865 beginning August 14th 2024 per w wagan thank you from Freedom Middle School opportunity do I have a motion second all right all those in favor I I abens that motion carries is that because we needed more help in there no this is uh an oops we forgot to put it on the August agenda so we do it every year for her so with the transition of Wendy retiring all right 4.2.4 approval of the agreement between the CERN County Superintendent of Schools division of special education and current County Consortium self participating districts do I have a motion second second all those in favor exensions that motion carries 4.2.5 approval of

resolution 2425 d10 authorizing participation in the zero emission school bus and infrastructure zby incentive project project make a motion thank you second okay all those in favor I thank you for putting that together and and into the future with our buses we're trying I looked it up too it's 2035 so that's the year where motion carries um looks like 4.2.6 the report on Williams uniform complaints um just an informational item move on to 5.0 which is each board member may make a brief announcement report on I'll start um thank you everyone for all the support I got for my reelection I appreciate it um I really felt um that I was appreciated and and right back at you I I appreciate everything all of you um I'd like to publicly publicly thank B darling for

putting her name out there and um wanting to be involved with the school board we need more people to do that we need more people to volunteer for um all kinds of jobs like that but um in our position specifically School boards and um got together Citywide countywide and put people forward and I was very appreciative of that group um trying to get more people involved with school boards so I just wanted to publicly thank all them and uh again the I just I don't know if the uh Halloween things were before our last board meeting but the trunker treats were just absolutely amazing I went to a few of them and to see the smiles and to see the kids interacting with their teachers and their principles and one of the things that I

was really impressed with was I'd see four or five teachers that got together and had like the same costumes in was it was it North that had everybody in a blowup costume and so and the race so what a phenomenal um time everybody had and Patriot must had 2,000 people at the school it was it was fantastic so thank everybody that worked hard and put that together and got all those campuses that's fantastic thank you so I too was reelected but since nobody ran against me I didn't get my name on the ball we're glad you're here too four more years as they say um and one thing I wanted to say is I visited American last month it just so happened to be the day of uh the uh lock down and uh I

went in and it was awesome to see the staff Smiles dialed in working hard and they pointed out one area that needed some work on communication and then I went back maybe two three weeks later for a walk through and it was fixed I talked to one of the teachers and she said oh yeah it is dialed in so it's good to see the way you managers jump on the top of the problems members okay one more um I hate to end the night on a downer note but um first I want to thank you for being proactive starting a few years ago with getting um mental health help down into our school levels we had a 15-year-old boy kill another 15-year-old boy this weekend um a school teacher friend of mine knew the boy

that was killed um I I hate to see that we need that in our school system but boy do we need that in our school system so thank you team for being ahead of the game and starting that and and pushing that um with our students and all the different things that we do with manners and how they treat each other and and all that is so important and and uh hear that news that young young kids 15 years old are in that in that state um that's that of our school and uh so thank you for everything we do to keep these kids heads on Street anything else from anybody all right I think we are coming to closed session so it looks like I need a motion to enter into closed session okay

and all those in favor I I okay with no ner extension that motion carries and put 541
