It's from the San Losis County Office of Education and it is their summary and input regarding our second prompt um our last and final part of our budgetary process which will present a new budget. uh they confirmed that we um had accurate measures thanks to our uh fiscal consultant Jenny who does such a beautiful and awesome job as a partner um and uh did verify that we have positive certification in this year the following in year out. So in just a moment we will have Amy Connor join us up at the podium. She is our classified employee of the year. She's worked in uh elementary school district for eight years. She began in August. Um so that was amazing at that school year. And I think one of the most beautiful things about the numerous nominations Amy received is um her the word dedication and the difference she makes not only for our students from our littlest because she supports our afterchool program
004um and our kindergarten enrichment to our oldest students. I currently is supporting um sixth grade science as a par educator. Um really there isn't anything that Amy can't do. She's talented and she's kind. I'm happy to report she's gone back to school to get our teaching credential. Um she is taking advantage of our recruitment retention grant. Um and she's a true advocate for this school and the community um that she served um part of Gold. and I would I'm so proud of you and honored to be a colleague of yours. So, if Amy could come up to the podium, >> the fun part of um employee of the year, Sensei's down here, but um she was announced to the school, which was wonderful um and exciting. Then she did her tour on social media, one
005of our biggest trending Instagram posts. They have the board today. Amy's um dad and mom and children surprised her on our morning flag pole. The entire school was elated um and cheering for her. Um and then it keeps on going because uh we are going to celebrate her um end of September, October at the county office employee of the year celebration as well. But Amy, you have a few words. We'd love to hear it. >> Well, Jen, thank you for everything so kind that you just said. Um, it's a blessing to me to be part of this school and it's one of the best moves that I've ever made. Um, I love this community. I love everyone I work with. Um, I feel really I'm really blessed to be here. Um, and I'm happy that,
006um, I'm just very grateful for the honor. Um, I'm grateful to share this honor with Mr. We. Um, today was a hard day, but uh, yeah. I don't know. Thank you so much. Um, thank you everyone. >> Thank you. >> Bye. >> Surprise when it's announced. >> Yes, it's a post. >> I'm not sure A's children and her parents were as well hit as we would like. The best part is numerous PAR educator her her direct colleagues um as they found out about her they were like I've been nominating for her for years and I'm like it's about time numerous people. So what teaching credential are you getting? >> Um I'm going through global and I'm doing my multiple subject and masters. >> Cool. Yeah. >> That's awesome. In addition to um Amy, we did
007announce a few weeks ago, I think it's about actually four and a half weeks ago, our teacher of the year was Brian Weey. Um and we had the honor to give him his trophy early. Um he enjoyed a wonderful video um of just I don't even know how many kiddos, numerous kiddos. Um if you haven't watched it yet, it is on our Instagram and on our YouTube channel. Um, and it's it's glorious to listen to the impact he had on our kids and this community and how much they felt loved and inspired by him. Um, and then uh he was super proud of it. Um, and uh he has shared uh photos of himself with the trophy um which is great. Um, and he was able to get all of his buttons and share those
008with his family which is awesome. Um so we are really proud that Brian Wei will be honored and continually honored. Um in fact um uh he loved so much the eggrop um activity which is this cool activity because he does so much with innovation and engineering you know um your daughter did it um it is awesome um and that is actually scheduled for Monday. Uh and then we will have a beautiful banner that will announce the egg drop as the Brian way annual egg drop for innovation. Um, and that will be awesome, I think. And he, I believe, will be really proud of that as well as his family. Um, so we will continue to honor Brian Weey and um are really proud that uh he was our teacher of the year as well and
009I know he was too. He told me the first day I met Brian four years ago um I said, "What are your big goals? Tell me what your big goals are." And he said to me, "One day I want to be teacher of the year." And so I when I went and um told him the news the hospital he I said you know when we met he goes I told you I wanted to be teacher of the year I definitely achieved that goal. Uh one of my favorite comments from a middle school student was wait what Mr. We hasn't been teacher of the year I would have thought he got that every year. uh which was the win uh Lloyd which was lovely and if the kids voted uh no offense to any of our
010amazing teachers but if the kids voted I do think he could win every year so in honor of way too associated student body yes come on up sweet girl so we have the privilege of hearing from one of our sixth grade leaders today. Uh we have Hadley Lovejoy. Um if you saw the play, you may recognize her as Chip. She is a wonderful actress. She is a brilliant student. You have a fine heart. We were very lucky. Her family moved to Kaiukas and her and her sister joined our family. Uh this is your second year, right? Second year. Yeah, second year here. Um, do you want to tell the board about what's happening in Kais school? >> Um, yeah. Uh, good evening board members. My name is Hadley and I'm a sixth grade ASB representative
011and I'm here to share some of the amazing things the Kaukas Elementary leadership has been up to. I have to start about I have to start by telling you about the dance because honestly it was the best dance ever. This year's dance was held off at the Ka off campus at the Kaugis Landing or the old vets hall and it felt so special. We got dressed up, danced with our friends, we watched the sunset. We had an incredible DJ, our very own board member, Dan Pewitt. The night started with with burgers grilled on the barbecue corral, tropical refreshers, and later in the evening, we had a huge root beer float party. All of our favorite teachers were there chaperoning and celebrating with us and it really strengthened friendships and school spirit at the end of
012the year. One thing people may not realize is how much work ASB does behind the scenes. Leadership students handle the accountings but for the dance by organizing receipts, completing cash count forms and facing bills correctly and learning about financial responsibility. Um, we also helped plan all the event details, even figuring out things like how much tubs of ice cream we needed for 70 root beer floats. During the appreciate during teacher appreciation week, ASB students volunteered their time helping teachers organize classrooms, clean, assist with a fifth grade science lab, and read to read to second graders. ASB is was also in charge of running concessions for our production of Beauty and the Beast, and student sales earned over $600, which puts us in a great place financially to start the next school year. Right now, students
013are campaigning for ASB elections for the 2026 through 2027 school year. It's really fun walking through the halls and seeing creative posters, stickers, pins, bracelets, and fun fun campaign messages everywhere. Speeches will be given next Monday after our flagpole assembly, and elections will be held right after. We also have one final pep rally on June 5th where we'll celebrate our amazing track and soccer teams, play hilarious summer games, introduce the new ASB officers, and hear a sweet sendoff from our graduating eighth graders, and watch an anti- vaping student PSA created by student by leadership students. It definitely feels like the year is wrapping up and honestly we're already wondering how we can possibly top it next year because this has truly been the best year ever. Thank you for having me and good night. >>
0146.3 I don't I always feel like I'm gonna put you guys to sleep after as but um okay so the last board meeting was April 8th the week before I can hold it you don't have to I'm a little taller so we had our gayla about a week after the last board meeting >> and we it was amazing I I saw some of you there um it we had such a good turnout and we raised gross $80,000 And after expenses, we netted just about 60, >> which is double than what we made last year. So huge success. Wow. >> And I much to the chagrin of the girls running it, I kept them on a very similar budget as the year before. So I've gotten multiple requests to increase that. Um so we did get
015some really positive feedback. We we got some constructive feedback about our check-in process, which was a little bit squirly. Um it we were blaming the software system. There's just only so much that a free software can do. So we're working with Jeff Brown is been giving me really good tips on he's been researching other potential software that can meet the needs of our growing event. And then we got some constructive feedback about our food and the ticket price. So we're working on those things for next year, but we're really really excited to have raised that kind of money for our school. So, um, and the committee that worked really, really hard on it, um, I think they were really pleased with the outcome. So, um, and then after that, right into teacher appreciation week and,
016um, PTA did some really cool things for teacher appreciation week. They had, last year, Kelsey and I had this vision. We saw all these little kids bringing flowers and we thought, wouldn't it be cool if we had a flower cart? >> That was really cool. >> Um, so that kids could just come pick flowers for their teachers. takes a little pressure off the moms and it allows the kids to do it like pick them out and give them to their teachers. So, that was really cool. That came to life this year. Um, they did a post-it wall where the kids got to write sweet notes to their teachers and it was pretty incredible to see all the sweet things they wrote. I wasn't sure if they would participate. I knew the young ones would, but
017I saw older kids out there writing. So, that was really neat to see. There was tons of food, tons of drinks. Um, my personal favorite was the breakfast burrito day where there was instructions that said remove foil then microwave. It just made me chuckle that we had to be that specific, but I'm sure there was a reason for it. Um, and then coming up next, we have our fund run. That's on Friday, May 22nd. We're underway. We um our goal is to raise about $17,000 and we're about a third of the way there with 10 nine or 10 days to go. So, um, we always have a really good time with that event. We, uh, have a, for those who haven't seen it, they run laps for about 20 minutes or so, and people can
018pledge per lap or a flat rate. Um, my husband always makes the mistake of doing a per lap, forgetting how much that our son's on the track team, and that's a lot. So, he's a big donor to this event. And um there's an obstacle course in the middle too for the for the young it's for everyone, but the younger ones like to do it because they don't run as many laps. So, and we add something to it each year. So, this year I think we're doing a bubble tunnel, something that doesn't get them all wet and sticky. We bought like nonsticky bubbles because we were trying to send them back to class, you know, not totally torn up like last year with the foam pit. So, um anyway, I think that's all I had to
019report. Is there anything in front of me? from the PTA's done. Oh, we did help out with um when you guys were doing CASP testing. >> Oh my gosh. >> We did a bagel bar, which I heard was a huge hit with the middle school. They really enjoyed that. So, we served bagels in the morning. Um >> and then we had a the school did a believe in yourself bingo and then PTA provided the prizes for the bingo winners. I think they they got a boogie board, a big old wave rider boogie board. So, that was lots of fun for us too. Um, yeah, that's what PTA's been up to. Uh, I agree with Padley, though. I really feel like this has been the best year ever. It was really an honor being the president.
020I felt like there was just tons of people wanting to work, wanting to help, wanting to do things, tons of big ideas. I've already got a list from people of things next year. So, I, you know, I feel like there was a lot of enthusiasm this year and positivity. So, uh, thanks for having me all year. I really enjoyed coming and doing good news. She'll be back next year as well. Oh, I just announced that quite yet. Sorry. Ford got reelected for one more term. So, we'll be back. >> It's so great. >> Yeah. And I'll bring maybe in the summer or the first meeting of the school year. I'll bring like a report of how much we raised, how much we spent, where it went, so you guys can kind of see like I
021did last year. I thought that was a really good way to show like all the work that we've actually done. So >> I thought the girl I thought the food and the paris were fun. >> Oh, you did? >> I thought the food was great. I mean, my husband even said, "It's nice not having a barbecue because then the smoke's going in your face." You know, >> it was nice having something different. And I thought the price was reasonable. >> The food was good. I think the feedback was for 150, I don't want to eat street tacos, which I think you're going to get mixed reviews. Some people really love tacos, like myself, and others are like, I would have liked something a little more elevated. For me, when they ask me about the budget,
022my my take is I want to raise as much money as possible for the school. So, give me good food that's cheap so that so that the money that we raise goes back to the school and not in my stomach. So, >> buy their tickets ahead of time and not only $100. >> That was another feedback that we got is only 53 parents took advantage of that early discount. Um, and so we had a lot of complaints from parents about the price ticket price of the ticket and we said we offered it at 100. So, we're working on how do we advertise that better next year. Um, we thought we did a good job this year, but maybe not good enough. >> Well, I think you did. I mean, you can't please everybody. >> I
023thought the check-in was great, too. So, I >> had no problem. >> There was a little mixup with half the one half thought you got drink tickets and the other half didn't. So, the people in one line got free drink. And so, we had to go rectify that because people are like their drink tickets. Well, it's only if you registered and >> you got an extra one if you registered and that was where is the that's where the >> disc I think I used your I used yours. Yeah, I used all of yours. >> So, I think the disconnect was we had put something in the advertisement that not everyone knew about. And I mean we're all volunteers. So, I've just told them, "Girls, take the feedback, but like, you know, we're not professionals." >>
024Yeah. >> So, we all positive. >> I mean, shrimp, you had like >> everything like if you I think it elevated it with the appetizers. I >> I should add that what I was really proud about was that it wasn't all the parents that was doing it. We had we had members of the community make appetizers. We had members of the community show up to help set up. We had members of the community help with cleanup. We've sold more tickets to members of the community than members of the school. So, I was really proud that the >> the community loves our school so much that they're willing to donate their time and their effort and their money. So, that was something that was really touching to me. So, the longest I've ever talked to board
025meeting. >> You're amazing, Megan. And a lot of the positivity came directly from your leadership and we're very lucky to have you. >> Thank you. I learned a lot this year. I just say seeing what PTA has done over the last two years that's amazing fundraising ele 7.1 board members report this I'll start so I went to the gala one time um happened. >> DJ Oh yes, DJ the eighth grade dance. >> That was awesome. Doming, that's all. >> But um it was great. Kids had a good time. It >> was so great to see them dress up and so excited. Just changing the venue a little bit was wonderful. >> They said it was closed before something separating. >> Oh yeah. >> I don't know. It was open for us last Friday night. >>
026I've done every Sunday. So, >> you can still play. >> Oh my god. Did you go all three nights? >> I went all three and I it was like Mr. B the boss like I am and the talented kids like kids singing. I was like, "Oh, right." And good. Like there was no feedback in the microphones. Like the the whole production was like this is >> It wasn't painful going three nights. It was It was great. >> Yeah. It was I was like it's great, but I paid a lot more for a lot less. So >> I went to the G went to the G also and I thought everything was fabulous. Um I did to beauty and beast the first night and it was it was amazing. I mean the sound system has so
027improved so >> you know you don't feel like breathing in the back it's going on there but yeah it was absolutely amazing and I really like that every play somehow they include the little kids you know to go up there and do something it looks like they're just having the time of their lives you know and then I also help write um and I wrote two sess grants for our teachers that's later on the agenda but I've been trying to get this writing so I just called Jen like give me two parent. And so I wrote him I was trying to get another $500 and it's I've never had one turn down. I've written like nine over the years. >> I can't imagine. >> 7.2 two superintendence report. >> Okay, so we're really excited right
028now. We have one foot in this year, one foot in next year. We're projecting anywhere from 202 to 210 students next year. Uh we're currently sitting at 204. I was a little worried because we're graduating uh a larger class of 26 and our seventh grade class has historically been small. It's only 14, but with one more >> we are getting one more in that class. with all of the interest and a growing um return to Kayuka school. Uh right now, we still have our two years in a row of zero transfers out of our middle school students. Uh huge uh kind of turnaround with that. We have 19 days of school left. >> Yeah. And it's funny because I I I hate to age myself, but this is my 26th year in public education and
029I I love the last 20 days of school so much. There's so much positivity. You could see it and hear it from Hadley who presented earlier. Um and there's just lamenting that happens and maturity where kids realize like we got a pretty good thing going here. Um and it's been really great. So, it's exciting. I sent eighth grade parents a very long uh to do kind of what's happening in the eighth grade in the last 19 days of school and we're really putting on like extra special things. The vast majority of the eighth graders have been here since kindergarten. Um so, we're having a good life picnic. They're going to Hurst Castle because with the cycle of field trips, that group hasn't gone for Hurst Castle. So, they're doing that. They're getting ready for Euseite,
030which is always a great time. We had this special spring dance at the the vets hall or Kus Landing. Um, and none of these things wouldn't be would be possible without our staff who want to go the extra mile, but then also our community that continues to sponsor such amazing things. Our PTA, our Rotary, Hyukas Educational Foundation. Um, all of those together have created this amazing thing. culminating experience for me is always the speech contest that Jessica Peterson puts on through Rotary. It happened yesterday was phenomenal. We had nine speakers just amazing uh young people with confidence and something they were passionate about. So, it was great to see that. Um last but not least, we do have our June mock interviews. So, as you guys know, it's our fourth year now where we require
031um eighth graders to get ready, have an introduction letter, a resume, an interview with community members. And so, that will be happening June 1st and 2nd. So, I'll be sending something out um by Friday that says who wants to sign up for the time slots to be part of the panels uh to interview our students. They're quite impressive. Megan has sat on that panel. Uh Chris, you've sat on that panel. It's a pretty amazing um morning because it renews your faith in uh the future, which is great. A couple little pictures here. There's our eighth graders at peace day. Um it was their last peace day here. Uh they wanted a group picture. They were getting very sentimental, which was lovely. Um in addition to that, I should publicly tell you guys I'm going to
032be out of work three of those wonderful 19 days. I'm going back east to my daughter's graduating college. um she started there right when I got hired. So it's kind of a whirlwind that it's already been four years. Um so I will be missing the um Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday after Memorial Day. So we are flying back east for that celebration which is going to be awesome. Um coming from a public school just across the hill um it's really great to see what um opportunities you can launch your kids into from public schools. Um there is Mr. Scoffield at his last peace day. He's been a huge proponent for peace day and helping with the quilts. Um so we recognized him especially um for his last Pday. That's peace day. That's the whole entire school
033behind him cheering for Mr. Scoffield. Um so he got his own peace leader award. Um he almost missed it but down he was like I was sitting up for like take a break and just get honored for a second which was awesome. And then uh if you could click to the second handout. I just wanted the board to see this is the theme that Megan so beautifully talked about. Um PTA CF and then our own CESD in the board. Uh it was a 90s theme for teacher appreciation. So everything had like a fun theme to it. Um which was great and I do think people felt very appreciated. I included 10-minute massages from a mass uh hydration station. Um, as Megan talked about, yummy food. CEF did a beautiful job with the burritos. Um, and
034the Lego My Ego bar was also very delicious. Only thing was the kids had a really hard time seeing it because it was in a hallway. Um, that they were like, I want some of that. So, we kept saying like, hey, we're so appreciative of our teachers. That's why they're getting the special treat. But, it's good for them to to hear no occasionally, for sure. Uh but yeah, that's kind of where we're at with our superintendent report. >> 7.3 student data. >> Great. Uh Rory, you can cue up the data. That would be awesome. Um last meeting we had the parent data uh for the LCAP survey. This is middle school students, sixth, seventh, and eighth grade. Um, and you know, anytime you have middle school students, it's it you have to like take it
035with a grain of salt because it's such an interesting age if you recall being kind of uh, you know, like going through not being a little kid anymore but not really being a teenager. Um, so perspective is always quite interesting. But with all of that said, 95% of our students said there is a caring adult on campus they could go to. Conversely, this was also a trend we saw last year. 70% of students said there's a caring adult they could go to if they're sad. So like if they were vulnerable or feeling sad, they're they um you know there's less that would say gosh, do I really want to cry on someone's shoulder for that? I I'm not saying that they all 95% need to, but it's just something that we want to make sure
036kids feel safe. and the vast majority do um with going to an adult if they're set up. Um 95% I'm not sure if 95% of them are ready for high school yet, especially our sweet little sixth graders, but 95% feel they are getting prepared for high school. I was like there's two questions that you know you're not supposed to manipulate data, right? It's like it is what it is. But there were two, that being one, and then one I'll talk about after this where I'm like, "Aren't you sure you're prepared yet?" It's okay to say no. They're like, "Oh, yeah. We're ready." Um, the other one uh that I I paused with, and I talked to staff about this, too. 72% of our students said they felt safe at school. So, I will let you
037know, I'm a really transparent person. It was like 50% when they first uh gave the data and I was like, "Oh my goodness." Like I was surprised. And so then I said, "Gosh, where do you feel unsafe?" And they're like, "I don't know." I said, "Well, if you don't feel safe here, like is it, you know, going to the restrooms? Is it PE?" You know, PE sometimes, like balls, baths, all the things. They're like, "No." I'm like, "Do you think I get hurt on campus?" And they're like, "No." And then I'm like, "Why are you saying you're not saved then?" And then Mary's favorite one, which I don't know if it's the vocabulary or what, I say, you know, feel like they're going to get jumped like they like jumped talking about. And so then
038I said, "You're safe then." Anyway, so we talked long and hard about that just trying to get their perspective. And um it it possibly is this idea of being >> answer. >> Yeah, I know. So you can put an aster by this one. I'm like, you know, a lot of middle schools see these things every single day like and they're like, what what middle schools did you go to? And I'm like like 30 miles away. Not that far, but still. So I think perspective, a lot of them have grown up here and only know here. I will tell you this, our middle school transfer students, all of them feel safe here. Every single one of them, sixth, and eighth grade, they were like, "We're safe here." Um, but uh I think maybe it is um
039being made fun of is what kind of leans them away. So, not physical harm per se, but being made fun of, I think, is what actually is there. There is an atmosphere of of Jessing that happens there that's pretty intense and we all I mean I highly discourage it and whenever I hear it it's it's nipped but um there that really is kind of this we're just messing around. I'm like that's not okay. So it is kind of intense. It's a little more intense than when we grew up like what the kids joke about. So I do think that that adds to this. A couple other things. 80% of our middle schools feel happy to go to school here. I think that's really high for middle school, honestly. And 89% felt proud of their school.
040Some of the things I love best about this are the things they said they wanted noted. If it is noted on the sticky note graphic on the below, um, it means that more than three or more students said this very thing or a very close variation of that. Um, you'll notice I love drama, not like like drama like talking about people like actual drama class. I love that everyone knows who I am here >> and we we hear eighth graders all the time right now like Mary and I uh when they're meeting I miss this because we're like see you later. Bye Chris. Hey have fun at basketball you know and like they're starting to realize like that's not necessarily normal at every school. Um they did say numerous students did say they wanted to
041have more food options and not the same cycle of food. Um, more classes should be uh like science class, fun and hands-on. Numerous students talked about that which is also a compliment to Mr. Wei small classes don't mean that we get help. So there were numerous variations of that. So the question that prompts that is um if small classes are are helpful to me succeed like is it helped you succeed to be in small classes and numerous responses of that whereas that they feel like they don't necessarily get more help if the teachers still teaching they're still doing their thing. So, I think that's super important and really interesting for us to plan around because I if we're not utilizing small classes, we don't need to have them. I'm like, we can do things another
042way. >> Um, teachers need to help students more. It was a kind of a compliment to that, but they were a little different. One of them was specifically related to small student or small classes, and one was just they felt they need more help. Um numerous students said they would be sad to leave Hayek school. Um again drama is the best elective. So when we talk about elective classes and um extracurriculars, drama stood out, which is a compliment to Miss Devos as well as uh theatrical arts and people loving the sports here. They loved the POE soccer team. You added that this year and super appreciated that and um we're excited about that. It also helps that we won basketball, girls and boys championships in middle school this year. So, they are really digging sports
043right now. But overall, I think there's a lot to glean from this one of those. And I just want you guys to I I I pressure people about doing the LCAP. Megan knows this. Um for a reason, which is I literally then take this feedback and look at what in the master schedule and courses and our daily practice do we want to change? One of those things from the students data is looking at um the last period of day being a home roomstudy hall where they have the same teachers two teachers small class and their whole point is connecting with them finding do you have the things you need let's get started in this do you have any questions with that and like a grounding so they are getting individualized help each and every day
044except for Wednesdays on our short day um as a shift from some of these these things that we're seeing here which I think will be great. It's also a shift because kids come right now from elective and you know electives are fun and crazy and all that and it's like they're leaving here in a state that I don't think is most successful for them to be like ready to go on to their next thing. Um so that's one of the changes we're looking at based on student data. That's kind of our upp student data. Do you have any questions or comments around it? by the graphic. Thanks. >> All right. >> Just comment. I mean, they say they're not getting help when they ask, >> right? That's okay. That's actually was a response for because
045we went over this as a staff. >> Yeah. >> Um and that's true. Absolutely true. So, there's a part of advocacy that needs to happen in middle school. Yep. >> Good comment. >> 8.1. Oh, we have one more. >> It's a big one. >> It's on the other 7.4 student screen time and technology. >> So, um I I think a lot of you saw uh in March um no in April there were a lot of art a lot of news articles regarding screen time. The biggest one is LA USD did a board vote on that. So, I tried to get ahead of that. Um got information from parents. uh surveyed our teachers around screen time and because I was trying to think about like what questions may prompt this if people are seeing uh articles
046regarding a massive amount of screen time and what that looks like. So what you have in front of you today is um kind of a summary of the information I gleaned from our educators. Um and you'll see that TK currently doesn't use um screens at all. This doesn't include the teachers teaching in front of the class. I might show like a quick little sing song video but like on their own personal screens. Kindergartens I I got a lot of questions about this number which is five minutes weekly. Partially that's because they do rotations and not every week but occasionally on rotation they'll use an iPad device for like a matching game or a numbers game or whatever it may be. Um so that's like an average throughout the year. um it's very small if if
047you notice um first through third grade is an average of 30 minutes a day. It's um usually not in 30 minute increments. Like for example, I was in first grade today and kids were rotating getting individualized reading attention or spelling and writing attention in one station for about eight approximately 8 to 10 minutes. We're doing an educational based game. So this is not scrolling on the internet. It's always an educational game um or learning device. Fourth and fifth grade, you're looking at 30 to 40 minutes. Most of those times um would be things like if they're writing in a journal and so they are also doing that and they're also doing um uh typing without tears. So learning keyboarding skills, those type of things, but they are screen time based time. And then sixth through
0488th grade, I think they'll be happily surprised. um is 40 minutes daily in those four classes. That's the total um where you're looking at anywhere from five minutes in math where they're doing um which they they like to remind me that my my program nextgen math which isn't an I program because if that was the case I'd be like a nice wealthy person. Um but it is a nextgen math program which gives them experience on how math is actually assessed on both um state testing and the SAT. So they are exposed to that same type of look of that. So they do that maybe at five minutes a day. Um and that's really their only math um screen. In English language arts, it's minimal. it's um journal writing and then possibly if they're doing a
049type of project essay or they do do slide building um for presentations which is great. Um and science is very minimal uh if any. Um and then last but not least, history. There is a program in which he does review assignments in history. So it's again you're looking at like an 8 to 10 minute maximum type thing. So um I was very pleased. This wasn't like give me your low numbers. This is like just just tell me what it is. I'm not saying it's good, bad, or anything. Like where are we? Let's get a pulse of this. Um we are we were well ahead. So uh well ahead of the non-personal devices. Um so we Yonder, which is the company that um Yanders are uh technology devices, so they're not out during break time. Um
050we don't let students use uh Chromebooks during break time. There were a few exceptions to that, but those have been um mitigated. And then overall, we believe that in order for someone to be successful later in life, they do have to have some tech skills. So, I know that there have been opinions of like no tech in schools, do everything tech in schools. Um and of course, like most things, the balanced approach I think is the suitable way for someone to learn and grow. Uh and I felt really comfortable with this. With that said, we are going to have a town hall meeting. It was originally scheduled for May 28th. It's actually going to be June 3rd. I sent out a update to our parents partially because that's the day I'm flying back uh from
051the East Coast. And with travel, I thought it might be a little sticky if my plane is delayed. I don't make it back. And Miss Jensen, >> Jensen had to lift that. So, we're gonna team it together and it's gonna be on June 3rd. So ready. That's what I said. But >> yeah, >> we'll have a great We already have uh 17 parents who have said they're coming, uh we'll have some snacks and we'll talk about screening time. We'll talk about other issues that are heavy on their heart around school and their education so that when we go into summer and we're planning like the schedule and those type of activities, what are things that we could meet the needs of our families? But I feel really good about this and I'm really proud of
052our teachers to have that balance approach. Now with that said, I do have a recommendation and um I'm really excited about it. I have talked to Mr. Anderson. I'm not saying he supports it. I'm not saying he doesn't support it, but I have spoken with him and he says it's feasible. Um and it's a perfect word as you guys know for him. But um Miss Jensen and our leadership team Mary um and Martin and we meet weekly and we all feel really comfortable about this which is currently in middle school we're onetoone school like most schools that happen during co um and I think we don't need to be anymore. I actually think we should take some like ramp it back, which would be um we have our carts that have all of our Chromebooks
053in them and they're stored in the classroom, which means if Carrie's teaching English and she needs the kids to use it, they use the Chromebook, they finish it, they put it back up. They don't travel with the Chromebook. It doesn't go with them. They can always borrow a Chromebook if they're doing a project and check it out like you would check out a library book. But right now, the difference of that is in the mornings, first thing they pick up their Chromebook and it's with them all day. And it's really tempting, just like these little cell phones are to look at that, to do something with it. It's on their desk. It creeps on to things and it becomes a behavior management thing. >> Um, and I think they they belong where they should be,
054which is charging. And then when we need them, we use them. We put them back when they're done. I also believe it will help with the lifespan of our Chromebooks because although we love our middle school students, they are not the best with maintaining these Chromebooks. Um yeah, they get their backpacks get thrown with Chromebooks are in them. They are really getting um used quite aggressively. Um and I do think it will cut down on any type of um inappropriate pieces of public. So we we are really leaning I would say 95% sure that that's the direction we're going to go for middle school and pulling that back a little bit and also in fourth and fifth. Fourth is that's the practice already. In fifth they tend to keep their Chromebooks in their desks a
055lot which I think we just have to make a little adjustment with that because it's just tempting really tempting for them to be right there. All right. Now 8.1 approval of consent agenda. >> Staff recommends approval of the consent agenda. >> Second. >> Any votes? >> Trusty Castillia. >> Hi. >> Trusty. >> Hi. >> Trusty Shard. >> Trusty Frank. >> Hi. >> Motion passes. 4 Z. >> All right. Action session. I want to approve and accept donations. So Carrie mentioned, but we we do officially have to accept, which we're excited about, two $500 grants from Cesla. Board member friend helped um Miss Todd and Miss Devos with um wish lists. Uh one of them is with Miss Devos, a Cricut machine that helps with um labeling and fun things with sign making and just really
056fine-tuning, crafting, and >> all kinds of things. >> Crafting. Yeah. All these like personalized cards. going a whole bunch of stuff which will be great. And this Todd is a steam or science and technology engineering magnetic um objects that they help build and do engineering type activities with and they were able to get both of those grants with um Miss Friend helping. They gave the topic and she did all the lift which was amazing. Additionally, Nolina Smurl, our fourth grade teacher, received a $100 um California Retired Teachers Association grant. It's a mini grant. um for next year's classroom supplies, which is great. And um staff does recommend approval of these three or two donors, but three awards. Make a motion to approve. I'll >> second. >> Any further discussion? >> Trusty Kick. >> Hi, >>
057Trusty Schuler. >> Hi, >> Trusty Frank. Hi, >> and Trusty Cast. Hi. Motion passes for zipper >> 9.2. Superintendent evaluation. >> Staff recommends approval. No, I'm just kidding. over. >> I was thinking. >> Yeah, I'm second. >> Okay. Any further discussion? >> I would still like to see in the future a um better I don't think we have a problem with the tool. I think we have a problem with board participation in the evaluation. And I've said this numerous times before and I was deeply disappointed that I was the only one that wrote a letter or did anything submitted about the evaluation when I thought we all agreed that we would. So, I would still like at some point to have another group come in and and do that with us or for us or
058direct us rather than Jen does a phenomenal job. That's not why I'm recommending it. But for us, that's our only job. That's our main job is to hire the superintendent and evaluate her. And just because she's doing a stellar job doesn't mean that we can likely kind of fall down on her evaluation. So, I think she's great, but I would like to have a better tool and have somebody come out because this is like the third the fourth one that I don't feel happy about as far as the participation. >> I'll get my I think that tool is good. I think we should even have a separate meeting where we go through each of those steps. I think um Jen does a great job of showing what she does in all those areas and it's
059a discussion for having a discussion. >> But this comes up every time and I don't disagree with that and this comes up every time. However, when we decide on a tool and go, "Oh yeah, we're going to do this." Then nobody does. If we're going to do that, if we're going to do that, then let's make that the tool. But that hasn't happened. Then we keep saying we're going to all give the board president some recommendations or write a you know it's nothing. >> But my understanding the last one was that Jen was going to write hers with supporting documentation >> which she did and if we had anything to add or take away or then we could do that but otherwise >> maybe that was my misunderstanding. I I understand that we would >>
060fortunately or unfortunately like Jen you do too well of a job of like putting like explaining what you do and like we don't give us room my like you know give us room to put our input as you cover too thoroughly. So if you stop thoroughly then I would have some input for you you want something more work from us which is fine but >> I just thought that maybe I'm wrong I could be wrong. I went back and I combined it in the board meeting. So maybe was if I'm wrong, I apologize, but it was my understanding that we would so I remember even Gretchen to change the date. So so Mary and Dan would have time to compile. That's what I remember. If we're going to change the date to compile, that means
061>> we go back and look because my thing >> we can't go back and look session. >> Oh, because I know Kristen, your whole thing was, well, I still want to write my letter. was like, "Okay, well, fine. You can still write a letter if you want to, but if everyone else just agrees like with what Jen stated and her um evidence of the statements, then it's fine. That's that was my thing. I don't know. Did you have a different understanding?" >> I I I uh Well, we can discuss again before this. I just I just think that um it's it's of most value for an employee to have direct conversations not like we start off with that checklist. We got a four. So three. It's it's more important to have a we know all
062these areas that are important to have an ongoing conversation conversation all of these areas and if we feel like something was not right but yes we could discuss that though. I I just always feel like you want more of a written document. >> I just don't feel like we follow any kind of structure. I mean, she gives us something. Oh, yeah. Fine. You know, that doesn't really show any kind of work or effort or thought process from us if that's our only job is to say, woo, Jen, we read the report. You're great. I want board members to have some input and thought process rather than just, well, here's a discussion. I mean, if we read I didn't look up our policy, but that's one of our main goals is to evaluate her and her
063us just agreeing on a letter to me is not the flavor of an evaluation. >> That's just the end result. I think the most important part is that we have to have a separate meeting just have a conversation regarding all of those areas. >> But we keep saying that and it doesn't happen. >> Well, we should do it now. >> Well, okay. But this is the last I've said this everybody on our own. I don't think if you have somebody come in here that leads evaluations and kind of shows it helps us as an evocus. I would just like to see a group out there and get Gretchen and I go to a great presentation about that. So if we could I don't know I just think it would be I would like to have
064somebody outside because it seems like this is a struggle and maybe I want more maybe you guys want less but if we had somebody come in I think that could help kind of tag. Maybe the compromise would be um in fall because it will be the same board um we can do what trustee CIO is saying which is more of the presentation but conversation around these areas um dialogue uh an open session and if we're still left thinking that we need one of them we will look at that that uh this board looking at the the work coming I if we start with that suggestion and then we can possibly lead into and say, "Oh gosh, you know what? If this still does feel that way and the majority of the board feels that way,
065then then you guys would make the decision forward." I mean, that's I think a pretty solid compromise. I think part of my frustration lies in let's say Jen wasn't very okay. Let's say she was not a good superintendent and we had we have no track record of documenting hey we want you to look at this because we just go with what oh yeah great A+ so if we have nothing to back that up again I'm not saying but if she was terrible we don't know how to do that we haven't been doing it we don't know how to get together and say hey these are things that you can improve on and this is the past practice this is how we do an evaluation so all of a suen if now we would crack down
066on her. It's like, well, wait a second. You're not following your your practice. >> Well, I I think that's part of the things about getting us together to do it. Doing the little chart thing doesn't really help anybody. So, so if we came came in here and this is these are the things that we expect for our superintendent and we sit here the five of us had that conversation rather than >> that would work but we haven't done that in the last we haven't planned to do that but >> but this conversation comes up every single >> conversation about the conversation comes >> always I disagree >> I would have to disagree with you wholeheartedly if she was not doing what she's supposed to. You would hear about it throughout this community because I was
067a parent when the superintendent wasn't doing that. And I know like it was voiced to the board at the time and everything and I mean you you heard about it through the community and there would be >> Okay. But that board didn't do anything about it. So it didn't matter. >> Correct. That's why >> but that's what I'm saying. So that I what the community says and what we do are the different >> well that >> but then there's people from that board that are no longer on here >> right I'm just I'm just talking about the process >> I think more is there process than the end result no I'm well the end result to me I don't feel like when we read these evaluations I don't get the sense that board members are
068because they disagree that there's I just don't get the feeling that there's much thought put into that. Maybe if even you know I don't know >> I to disagree because at most schools what I when you walk on campus you don't see the superintendent every day like you don't I mean the amount of times that I've text or had conversations like I I think there's there's a huge disconnect in other districts between the superintendent and it almost gets blurry sometimes with like superintendent principal when you're you know had to fill in that that slot until Miss Jensen took over like and now it's like okay there's Miss Jensen there too like um and I think there is such an open door policy and seeing it in action like me having kids here I I get
069not only like my board reviews but I get parent square I get updates and and updates from Jen updates from the teachers and she's reiterating ating what the teacher just told me or like bringing to light different things. And so >> so what you just said you could write down and just turn in as part of your evaluation. >> Okay. But my thing is like if she did all that on there like I I don't see the point me in doing the same thing she just did. >> Oh, it'd be great. You could just say, "Hey, I appreciate what you're doing. I like that." Or just some kind of >> any kind of input. Well, further with Dan said too, >> an evaluation for a key employee like that, it's an ongoing process. So, you
070are having conversations continually. We're communicating. It's not just a once a year thing and and I know you we need to do that that once a year thing, but it's also it's an ongoing process. I I just think again having a meeting and having a conversation and going I think that chart we start out with it has all the key areas of concern and it's a it's a talking you know talking points to go over all those areas and I have had parents in the community come and be like this happened at school visit and I'm like okay well you need to bring that to the superintendent but I also called her and talked to her hey do you know this is going oh yeah I was really aware of this happening at the school
071like what we're doing and so >> that's our role, right? >> Yeah. But for me, just to be like, hey, your open lines of communication are really important and sit down and type it out. I don't know if that's necessary. I guess I could I when it when it's under the, you know, communication, she's saying, you know, communicate with parents, do this. I just I don't >> that's fine. We can agree to disagree. I just think that following our board policy to do an evaluation should be not a passive event. It should be active and I just feel like it's too passive. >> I don't see any active. >> So, let's have an active beat. >> Okay. Well, let's do it. We keep saying we're going to >> we're going to do >> October would
072be perfect. Yeah. Just with the start of school in September, >> huh? Just in October. >> And don't do yours ahead of time so we can do one out of you. just absolutely >> yes absolutely right that we can fill things in that I'm sorry >> I mean I should provide evidence but >> okay >> incomplete sentences with typos >> yes there's not so lots of emotions well there's already made the motion. >> Yeah. >> Any further further consent? >> Uh, Trusty Brun, Trusty Gust, >> Trusty P. I >> and Trusty Schuler. >> Motion passes for Z 9.3 resolution number 2601 ordering governing board member Elisha. >> Great. So 2601 is a required resolution as we're looking at having three open seats in areas one, two, and three, which is area one where currently Trusty
073Friends, area two Castillo, and area three Ross. It's hard to believe that it's already been four years. Um but uh this resolution specifically outlines the procedures related to the count uh county office of education and their role in making sure that we are going through the electoral process and noting that those uh seats will be advertised and open to apply for uh in partnership with the county clerk's office. So staff recommends approval of 9.3 which is resolution number 2601 which is the ordering governing board member election. We'll make a motion to approve resolution. >> Second >> any further discussion? >> Trusty Castillo. >> Hi. >> Trusty. Hi. >> Trusty Schuler. >> Hi. >> Trusty. >> Hi. >> Motion passes 40. >> 9.4 resolution number 26-02. I guess elementary school district candidate statements, >> correct? And
074so this one is just aligned to election code 13307E which actually uh requires the the people running for office to pay for the printing costs and mailing of their candidates statements. It also articulates that it is limited to 200 words um and that the register of voters must give these rules which is what we're doing to every candidate when they pick up the nomination papers. So that will actually be done by the clerk's office at the pickup neighbors, but that we're adopting uh resolution in accordance to um the election code. >> Well, can we change that? I don't understand this because this is about county stuff. >> Agreed. >> Second. >> Any further discussion? >> Trusty Pew. >> Hi. >> Trusty Schuler. >> Hi. >> Trusty friend. >> Hi. >> Trusty Cast. Motion passes 4
075zero >> 9.5 resolution number 26-03 a resolution of the governing board of the Kaikas elementary school district requesting that the district governing board member election could be held November 3rd 2026 be consolidated with other elections called for the same day in the same territory. >> So we do not want to pay for our own own election process. I will tell you that just over the hill unfortunately there was a recall at one time and it is a very expensive process to put on your own election. So staff does recommend approval of the resolution and that would mean that we are following the same timelines and procedures that every other uh district and then other propositions or state offices that are being elected which is November 3rd, 2026. But it wasn't also. >> Oh, can we
076just on discussion? It was important and interesting. So, we always learn new things. You'll notice on the resolution, it does say the very end section two pursuant to educational code 5016. In the event of a tie, the candidate will be selected. And this has been our board policy by lot. That is actually what is in our current board policy, which means the tie will go to the current sitting board for decision, not a runoff. That is in our board policy. I didn't know that. I will say I I know a lot about our board policy, but I was like, I don't know, Mary. Let's figure this out. And so that's what we figured out. >> Don't be fairly. >> No. Well, yeah. >> No, I guess the other four would vote on the seat. >>
077I mean, if you think it's No, I mean, you can always vote on yourself. >> Oh, yeah. >> Yeah, but and it wouldn't be one. >> This one, you're still in November, you're still a city board member. Yeah. So, you're saying so it would be the December meeting prior to being sworn in or out. The board would do it by >> since we're not at large. Everybody first. We'll see. >> Interesting. >> Yeah. >> But anyway, I did want to point that out because I was like, >> I've never seen that. >> But I've never seen a tie either. >> Yeah. >> Make this really fun and entertaining. >> Any further further discussion? >> Trusty Schuler. >> Hi. >> Trusty friend. >> Hi. Trusty Castillia trusty motion passes 409.66 resolution number 26-04 approving the participation
078in and use a California multiple voting schedule Cas contracts and delegating authority to enter into such contract. >> Uh so this is always um done when you are looking at it has an end date. So unfortunately our end date on our last time we did the CMAS which is the California multiple award schedule. It means that California has vetted certain vendors for public entities to have a fair and reasonable price um for those public entities. Uh this is a process that KUS has been part of for many years. It's also how we were able to build uh the additional classroom, our play structure down below. Um uh and currently we're asking to uh open this ability to do a CMAS contract which we'll see why in the next agenda item. So staff recommends approval of
079a participating in the use of the California multiple award schedule or CAMAX contracts >> second. Any further discussion? Trusty friend. Hi. >> Trusty. >> Hi. >> Trusty FY. Hi. >> Trusty Scher. >> Hi. >> Motion passes. 4 Z. >> 9.7 approval to enter a piggyback agreement of landscape structures incorporated through a California multiple awards contract for the purchase of a place. >> So, you know, when you say, Jen, go find out. I'm gonna find out. Um, I have really great news though. So, um, in addition, uh, to this great item, and I'll describe the item in a moment, we'll show you some great drawings and pictures. I did meet with a TK and kindergarten teachers, um, and went with their recommendation. I was really happy it outlined with mine. Um, there's a couple of, um,
080renovation changes and some really cool things to look at. Um but with this said um we have committed uh two wonderful organizations in our community which uh we will officially receive at our next board meeting a minimum of $50,000 in donations. Um both want to in their words continue to contribute and be part of the best little beach school. Um it makes me super proud and um really emotional that we have these amazing community members that continue to give back. Um the playground is necessary. We have four year olds on our campus the entire year. Um and our play structure currently we have a pad that helps protect them. But the play structure itself is made for 5 to 10 year olds. the teachers do an amazing job and the parah educators uh Miss Held
081and Sherard in looking at safety and procedures and strength and all of that. Um so this is in no way a criticism of their um really a need to keep our kids safe but the structure itself needs to be revised because transitional kindergarten is here to stay. We already have 16 students registered for next year. I mean which is awesome. It'll at that at which they've all they've all registered um will be our largest year yet for transitional kindergarten. We have 18 registered for kindergarten already and we usually get two to four more students between those two grade levels throughout the summer. We also have students on already on a wait list for interdiscipated transfers for those grade levels. So, so with all that said, um, and knowing, um, the strong commitment from these other
082two donors that have already met numerous times with us, I'm really comfortable with this. We have 30 a little over $30,000 in our universal universal prepaid grant, which was it sunsets in June, plus the 50,000 is 85,000 of the dollars needed, so that nothing even touches the general fund. Although we do have after school funds that could um contribute to the additional 20 grand. The pro the product uh cost total cost in the $104,000. It does do a resurfacing of that area which is actually really needed. Um, when they poured the spongy surface, they did a really cool design, which is actually really nice to look at, but terrible for our maintenance and operations department because with our lovely humidity, sun, fog, weather, it continues to expand and then shrink. And so, it creates these
083little caverns that people get their feet caught in. We fill it every summer. We spend about $1,000 every summer or more on supplies, not even counting the time. Uh and then if you go to look at it now, you'll see them. There's just big little caves that happen or little canyons just from the expansion. So this actually recommends the engineered uh wood chips underneath. Um yes, we'll have to teach the TK not going to throw them, but then they will they're fine. It's not something I worry about. But let's look at the pictures. This is all the other stuff. Okay, so this is our guy. Um this is an amazing play structure. You'll notice there on this first one, there is a slide here. There's also two slides on the back here. There's a balancing
084climbing area. Um, this is also included. Um, the original design, you'll see later in these, had a um a big uh hot air balloon on the top, but due to the winds that we have here, um this is a shade structure that's more suitable for our uh long term. There are little clouds. You can keep going. Um there's another great picture. There's also the ladder here. You'll notice um I think if you keep going down. Here we go. Oh, this is important. Um everyone loves that our kids play on grass still in the Kinder and TK area. It only You'll notice this little expansion area. Very small amount between here about 13 inches of grass. That'll be just because we need a larger space, but it's just on the curve about 13 in um with
085that. Okay, here's some other Oh, yeah. This I love this part. This is a um so in the original one, like I said, there's a balloon here, but this is an imaginary play area where you can like sell balloon tickets for them to do where you have like one side or the other like a little store for the kids. Um which is awesome. That's all the angles. That's the original model I told you about. So, we'll have a big cloud there, but that's actually the original model. You'll see the normal clouds here, the play area. All the happy faces. Oh, yeah. Look at that. That's so fun right here. This is where you'll find me on Wednesday afternoons. Um, yeah. >> Have a balloon or no? >> No, just a big cloud there. Yeah. Uh,
086there's another uh reason why. One, the winds. to um it is a DSA project for I it's through the shade structure which means DSA approval which made almost price. So we were good to stop >> and the wear and tear on that with the wins that we have now. So yeah um they they believe they can have it up and running in August. >> Wow. We'll see. I mean, we have to get this approved, then we get on the schedule, but they're not concerned. There's a lot more other unknowns down below. Um, but that would be the option um to move forward. So, staff does recommend approval. Um, we're thrilled. I can't wait to announce our partners uh when we officially receive the funds uh at our next board meeting. Make >> a motion to
087approve. Any further discussion? >> So that was my question. The donors will be anonymous. >> Yeah. >> And these pictures on your binder actually clearly show a little bit better than that. So >> Oh yeah. >> Yes. >> Trusty Castile. >> Hi. >> Trusty clip. >> Hi. >> Trusty Schu. >> Hi. >> Trusty. And motion passes 40 >> 9.8 resolution 26-05 school board resolution for naming district representatives and authorizing participation in the SAV administer programs. >> Yes. So in looking at this um we are uh currently um we are not listed Lisa and I as making any decisions for our state board regarding the state allocation board which looks at receiving like proposition two funds. So at the last board meeting, we went into contract King and Associates to explore our option for uh full
088funding or match funding for replacement portable eventually uh if the state if we we became eligible through the state for that allocation. And so um we actually have to be listed on that uh the previous superintendent it's still listed because it's not something that has been updated automatically. You have to file for it. I I didn't realize that or we haven't needed to. So they have provided this resolution um and looking at that preparing for that uh proposition to allocation funds as we go through that process. Sorry. >> Any further discussion? >> Trusty Puit. >> Hi. >> Trusty Schuler. >> Hi. >> Trusty Brent. I >> trusty Pu. >> Hi. >> Motion passes. Score zero. >> 9.9. Approval proposal for independent audit services. >> So we had a lot more interest this time which is
089great. Last time you were like begging people to to do our audits. um Christy White, which is a well-used firm in this this in the state actually and specifically in this county um uh proposed uh the most affordable and uh even though with audits it can also be the most specific related to what your needs are. Um we believe going from Christy right for just this next year and then we get to after they go through the audit cycle process in January up for another year or not. Um, I do want you to know this is double the budget we had for audit last year. But with that said, our previous audit firm more than doubled their ongoing cost. So when they let us know that they their controller has changed and that we they
090were actually eligible to uh be our auditors again because the controller shift, >> they were actually um higher than this estimate. So they had we had previously gotten a really good deal and uh that was great. We let that roll for three years and got a great deal but uh now this uh was the least expensive but we believe to be um a great experience for us and learning it will mostly be online so we'll be submitting through portals and less of the people here um like counting tickets. So it'll be a different experience. So in January after we go through that uh we will come back to the board and say hey like I think this worked for us or um what maybe we need to do or go out for a different auditing
091firm for next the following year. This so this is just for one year but with the ability for next we so choose. >> Make a motion to approve. I'll second. >> Any further discussion? Trusty friend has trusty Castile. Hi. >> Trusty Picker. >> Hi. >> Trusty Schulz. >> Hi. >> Motion passes 4 Z 9.10 AD 1200. >> So the AD1200 is a assembly bill 1200. It was enacted um in 1991 to look at the oversight and fiscal um solveny of school districts in which the county office of education is required to look at the impact of negotiated terms uh with bargaining units such as our teachers unit. Um and make sure that a district was actually bargaining money that you had and you know didn't just settle because oh gosh yeah sure give them 20%
092and then not have the funds. Um so uh what we do is we negotiate we look at the process then we submit to the county office and they verify that it is a fiscally solvent negotiated amount. Um so with that attached is the unsigned but we did receive a signed on Monday um letter that uh said the county office of education has looked at our negotiated terms and agrees that we can afford those terms and the application of those terms in the multi-year projection. Um the terms themselves that you are looking at is that it would be for our teachers unit and the unrepresented classified staff two and a half% increase in salary next year 2% the following year and then for staff members that are we are retaining a one-time $500 prora or protect
093um basis retention bonus which is quite uh common nowadays. Um just because you stay on Yep. Additionally, um that with the rising cost of health insurance, some plans for families going up $200 a month, um at basically single parties doubling, uh anyone who's and I know it's kind of interesting because private insurance is still significantly more than public insurance um that we pay for, but it is a significant increase, a contribution increase for family party uh 1,500 annually, a,000 annually for two party 500 for um singles. It still won't cover the increase, but it will help a little bit in that spot. So staff does recommend approval. This is of the AB1200 and then we'll talk about the negotiated agreement on the next. >> Dr. Ger did have awesome things to say. >> How it
094was written. >> Oh, such detail. >> Oh, wow. Great. Great. I'll make a motion to approve AB 1200. I'll second it. >> Any further discussion? >> Trusty Castillo. >> Hi. >> Trusty P. >> Hi. >> Trusty Schuler. >> Hi. >> Trusty Frank. The motion passes for Zulu. >> 9.1 approval of tenative agreement between PA school district and teachers association. Uh, Principal Jensen, myself, uh, Sarah Brown, and Sarah Johnson met as a negotiated group and, uh, we met on three different occasions, numerous emails, um, tenative agreements, proposals back and forth. Um, we actually had, um, a quite lovely time in negotiations. Um, and I think that our collective bargaining agreement has improved through the input of our teachers. Um, and I was super happy to partner with them and really impressed by them. Um, and they
095did a great job advocating. With that said, um, we settled on a 2-year deal for compensation of total four and a half, two and a half, one meter to the next. Um, a one-year negotiated health benefit because with this rise that we just felt, they were uncomfortable settling multiple years. So, we're not sure what the impact would And I think that's a really smart decision. Um, and then some really good language. We updated language in leaves, uh, long-term leaves, baby bonding, or what's called parental leaves now. Um, and then we also got some really great language around professional duties and adjunct duties, which is when all the all the other things teachers do in addition to their time in the classroom, whether it be open house, talent show, attendance at graduation, running clubs, doing all
096these other things, part of the um LCAP, all these things. Um, taking tickets at basketball games, whatever it may be that makes our school run. I think uh we landed on some really good language that helped clear up what those expectations are and um when we will when what what's considered a professional duty what's really just like an act an additional duty that you probably should pay for but overall I couldn't be more pleased with the conversations the advocacy of the CTA um the partnership with Miss Jensen and staff recommends approval of the tenative agreement between PAUS Education uh teachers association sorry PAUS teachers association and P development is still strict. >> Any further discussions? >> Trusty Felix. >> Trusty Sch. >> Trusty F. >> Hi. >> Trusty Castillo. >> Hi. >> Motion passes 40.
097>> Signature is out of the district. I'm recognized today though a long day. The bigger it gets the that means like oh I signed my name 25 times today. The nice me's the last page but that's still not >> don't have a stamp. No, >> Mary got a hold of >> All right. 9.12 approve. Oh, wait. >> Did you write? >> Oh, consultant agreement for instruction coaching student engagement connection behavior support. >> So, I'm um highly recommending we bring in an educational consultant. I think they will. I know actually, let me start that over. I know they are an amazing amazing educator and coach. Um this uh individual has created a beautiful program that helps students look at goal setting, their actions, their behaviors, leadership qualities and teamwork um and working together and building a
098community of leaders for students. Um I believe that they will be wonderfully um successful in our fifth grade and want to recommend that we approve um an educational consultant agreement for engagement, connection and behavior management to start as early as this week um for extra focus and care in fifth grade. And then from there, I will report back to the board in August on the success of that and even looking at possibly the extension of that into other grade levels. But um I really do think it would be um a benefit to our fifth grade. Um and um I I continually go in that class. So does Miss Jensen, so does our behaviorists. And we think this is that next great step to bring out these awesome leadership qualities that so many of those students
099have. Um and we want them to feel successful and um going to be great and I do think this is the next step to promote a really great ending uh for a new year for that class. >> Make a motion to approve. We'll >> second. >> Any discussion? Trusty Schuler. >> Hi, >> Trusty Friend. Hi. >> Trusty Castillo. Hi, >> Trusty. Motion passes by four. >> So, with that passing, I'll send a letter out to our fifth grade parents tonight um about this next great opportunity. Um and I think they'll they will also be thankful for that. And I thank you guys. >> Yeah, we do have three here. We do. >> It's great. >> 10.1 committee dates. >> All right. Oh, yeah. Very well. Sh. >> All right. We have a few things coming
100up. There are no board members scheduled for the June or July CCAC meetings. Um, we do realize that the June 3rd CCAC meeting that parents are involved in, they'd like to go. I know there's talk around the pool situation. that is the same night as our town hall meeting here. They will not overlap. Our town hall meeting will be over before CCAC starts. Um but if any of you want to attend, you're more than welcome, but nobody's scheduled for that June or July. I am vice president of the CCAC and so if there's ever a meeting where you all can't attend and you would like me to speak, I'm happy to do so. I realize that sometimes our agendas are packed and it's a real chore for one of you to sit through an entire
101meeting and then have to speak for five minutes. So, I just wanted >> and I think you'd be a wonderful representative as well. >> Thank you. >> Uh our June board meetings, different days. They're Tuesdays. Remember, they have to be two weeks apart because we do have the open hearing for the LCAP and the budget. The first meeting and the second meeting we pass them. That being said, we have them on June 9th and June 23rd. We do need a quorum to pass the budget. >> So June 9th, I may or may not be here depending on how my surgery requires >> I think there's we just need but we do need a quorum to pass the budget and do all those fun things. So please let us know as soon as possible if we
102will not have one. Uh eighth grade graduation will be June 10th at 6 pm. I do have diplomas for you to sign here. And kindergarten graduations also June 10th and that's at 10:20 a.m. One add-on that I did not put on here, but we just found uh clarification this week. Um our returning eighth graders from that are now seniors in high school will be doing their grad walk on the 4th of June at 11:00 a.m. It is amazing. It makes me cry every time. If you want to come and see some really cool kids come back to our school, that is definitely an event. >> 11:00 a.m. >> and they go back from their high schools to all of their elementary schools. It's not just ours, it's around, but um we already put out an
103email to those returning parents to invite them to come and try to make them feel as special as they can. So, >> and Mary, this is Mary's Bradock who's next year. Her baby will be doing his already. I'll be a soft and it really will be a mess. >> It'll be wonderful. >> I cry. Yeah. Every year. So, it'll be terrible. Yeah. >> Uh that's really all we have here. And then of course July, we have no meeting and then you'll be back in August. So, >> the only thing happening this summer to be aware of really is those uh election and filing for those board seats for those seats that are open. It will move quite quickly. >> Yeah. will uh email the board the date and we'll be sending out a public announcement
104on those dates and areas very shortly after. We had to do the resolutions first. >> I've got a lot of things for you guys to sign really fast. Sorry, my brain wasn't
