We have the enrollment report as of May 9th of 25, the health report as of April of 25, the fire alarm report for April of 25. the crisis drill report for April and the superintendent monthly report. Mr. Capello, thank you, Mrs. Fitzwwater. Uh, thank you to all of our attendees this evening and to our folks who are watching at home on the live stream. Uh, welcome to what at least is a tie for my favorite board meeting of the year with our student meeting uh earlier in November. Um, we have a lot to celebrate this evening and I will be uncharacteristically quick with my remarks to make more time for some of the
great recognition that we have. Uh, speaking of recognition, very quickly though, I did want to recognize our New Albany students of the month. Uh, the pirates of the month are as follow. In preschool, Christopher Amentrono, kindergarten, justino in first grade, Benjamin McClear in second grade, Lily Curry. And our specialist star student was Natalie Chatley. Congratulations to those students from New Albany School. Uh, I mentioned last month, and I'm excited to reiterate to all of our families, uh, the district is taking a step forward in unified communications. If you've visited cinnamonson.com lately, you may have noticed it got a nice refresh and we're looking to create a more accessible and scalable website uh to make all of our information accessible to families. And the second part of that is unified communications from the classroom level to
the school level uh to the board level that everything will have a similar look and feel and make it easier for families to decide what communications they want to receive when and using what medium they want, whether it's email, text, uh or even calls, which some folks still enjoy these days. So, we're looking forward to launching the second phase of that with the start of the school year, but parents should look for some more information to come home informing them on how to get signed up for the district's parent square account. Uh, we find ourselves in the middle of performance season. You know, we love the arts here in Cinnamonson. A couple dates coming up, including tomorrow night, the CHS spring coral concert. Then on the 15th, the CMS band concert. Uh, we wish all
of our student performers from Rush uh to break a leg on the 19th and the 21st as they perform the second annual Rush School musical, Willy Wonka. We'll look forward to that. And then on 520, the CHS band concert followed by the district strings concert on the 22nd and the district band concert on the 20th. So, lots of performance opportunities. And if you can't make it out to all of those events, thank you to Mr. Creel, uh, who has made those events available via the live stream on cnn.tv. So, uh, if you can't watch them live and in person, you can definitely catch them, our very talented musicians. Uh, some other calendar items I'll put on the radar for our board members. Uh this coming Friday night, we wish the very best to our juniors
and seniors on their uh junior senior prom across the river in Philadelphia. On the 22nd, New Albony is hosting their field day. That is certainly a treasured event for all of our young people. On the 29th, uh the high school will be hosting a STEM fair, and that is also the evening of the New Albony art show. And I've been told that is also the ice cream social, which is equally as important as the art show. And finally, uh it has become now a treasure tradition. uh our min administration every year hosts a thank you appreciation breakfast for the members of our transportation department and our maintenance department and also this year we'll be recognizing and thanking all of the crossing guards in town as well who are not Cinnamonson district employees but who are
very important in ensuring that our kiddos get to school and get home from school safely so we appreciate them uh a very brief preschool update I've been giving them now for uh just over a year at the May board meeting last year we c uh we celebrated the launch of our general education preschool program. And last year we opened that program with two classrooms and doubled that number to four this year. And as we move into next year, we're looking to triple that number and expand to 12 classrooms on our way to the goal of providing full free access to all families in Cinnamonson who have three and four-year-olds uh eligible for school. And we appreciate our local partners in preK. Uh we've talked about some of our challenges here with Square Footage, but uh
thank you to the efforts of our prek team. Uh we are looking to expand and make partnerships with Temple Sinai, Cinnamon Sticks, Newman Learning Center, and the Learning Experience um over in Riverton. Also, congratulations is in order to the architect of many of those preschool decisions, Mrs. Sher Spear, who is in attendance tonight. Uh is on the agenda later this evening for appointment to be the first ever director of early childhood education in the district. We congratulate Mrs. Spear on that accomplishment. We're excited to officially launch uh the relaunch a fifth school in the district, Memorial PreK, uh for the collective that will be preschool for the 202526 school year. So, if you visit our newly revamped website, you'll now see five schools uh to click on. Uh just very briefly mentioning uh some of
our square footage challenge. We'll hear from Mrs. Fitzwater a little later on this evening uh who will provide the board and the public on a brief update on some of the early seating conversations uh we're having regarding construction and uh some improvements in the district visavv um potential for referendum. Uh finally, it is recognition season among all other things that are happening this time of year. Uh May 1st was our principal appreciation day nationwide. So all of our principles are up here in the front row, but thank you to Mrs. Jones, Mrs. Mey, Mrs. D. Simone, Mr. Gorman, and even Dr. Gborn uh who are fantastic principles and all of the assistant principles uh who serve alongside them as well. Thank you for all that you do for our students. May 7th we celebrated school
nurses day. Last week we celebrated teacher appreciation week which we'll hear a little bit more about during the presentation section this evening. And uh finally this week is special education week. So thank you to all of our child study team members, students, parents, partners uh and teachers in the world of special education. And finally, we are looking forward to some more staff recognition later on this evening. Um, and in just a little bit, we'll turn it over uh to the presentation program. But thank you to all of the families who came out to support all of the honores this evening. This is truly a cherished tradition here in Cinnamon, and we look forward to uh what is to come later in the board meeting. So with that, Mrs. Fitzwwater, that is the brief superintendent report.
Thank you, Mr. Capello. Uh, Mr. Bramal, can I have a motion to approve section five, routine matters items A through E? So moved. Second. Second. Thank you, Mr. Maker. Comments or questions from the board? Hearing none, we'll take a vote. Mr. Balcanero, I I I I I I I I motion approved. Uh moving on to our student representative reports. Everyone has to turn their heads that way tonight. We've moved them down the other end. Uh but just as comfortable. First, we'll hear from our high school representative, Gwen Shakanssky. Thank you, Noah. And now we're going to move on to um section seven, our presentations. Uh first thing we have is the board of education student recognition. [Music] See if I could do this with multiple computers here. um this board has taken um opportunities to recognize students throughout the course of the school year uh rather than in previous years waiting until June to recognize the totality of our students. And one
student who was recognized earlier this year um I was actually hoping he would be right here standing next to me, but he is um he's actually hard at work in the kitchen preparing uh his award-winning pork dumplings. So, if I'm vamping a little bit, it's uh I'm waiting for uh our kitchen master uh to come out here and join me so I can brag about him just a little bit. And I see one of his biggest fans uh walking in, a couple of his biggest fans walking in in the back. So, uh whe whether you're aware or not, um as a district, Cinnamonson partners with Sedexo, a national provider for our food services, and we have an excellent food services program here, and it is led under the direction of Miss Lisa Friedrich, who will
also be coming out with our uh young honore in just a little bit. Uh we're very proud of of that partnership. But one of the um one of the great things that they celebrated each year, come on up here, Jonathan. I already started talking about you. So just like everybody else, you got to stand here and let me brag on you just a little bit. So uh one one of the great programs that Sedexo offers nationwide is a program called Future Chefs. Uh Future Chefs is a competition uh held annually and it is open to all students in grades three through five all across the United States. And there are literally thousands and thousands of partners who are open and available to participate in this. Uh this year approximately 2,000 recipes were submitted and each
year there is a theme for the recipe. And Jonathan, what was the theme this year? Do you remember? Um Mr. Friedick, do you remember? Yes, it was a main dish. Okay. So So to prepare a main dish in the past, it's been a a healthy take on something or a family favorite. So um recipes were narrowed down uh at each school to approximately six to 10 chefs. So, a couple months ago in March, some of our board members served as judges and we had a variety, maybe six or seven different uh delicious dishes ahead of the board meeting. All right, that is my favorite board meeting of the year. Uh so, we got treated to uh some wonderful treats from our student chefs and it is always a very difficult decision because there are so
many great options. Um and each year's winning recipe and a picture of the dish um so I should say Jonathan's dish was selected as the very best of the student submissions from the Rush School. And then uh essentially every winner submits their recipes to uh a body from Sedexo uh very accomplished and uh talented chefs and food services professionals who review the ingredients, they review the processes and uh several Sedexo chefs narrow it down uh to one winner from every region. And there are five regions across the United States and Jonathan was chosen as the winner for the Mid-Atlantic region which is really awesome. So congratulations And if you haven't if you haven't had an opportunity to watch the video of Jonathan preparing his dish. He basically was just recreating it in the back just
now only he ramped up his volume to about a hundred dishes this time. Right. Uh it's it's fantastic. Thank you to M the very talented Mr. Wilson over at the high school who helped prepare uh Jonathan's award-winning dish in his video. And uh congratulations to Jonathan who's a regional winner. We're so proud of you. And Jonathan's been showered with a number of different gifts along the way. But Miss Friedrich from Sedexo, apparently looks like you're getting even more balloons, even more hardware. And uh congratulations, Jonathan. Did you want to uh real quick, I don't want you to put you on the spot. Did you want to thank anybody or You don't have to. It's okay. I heard he wants to thank his family. Wave in the back. Do you see him back there? Congratulations, Jonathan.
We're really proud of you. All right, Jonathan, everyone. And and one more great surprise. So, we're going to do a little bit of recognition. Uh but then we're going to take a brief recess and everybody who is in the audience is invited to come and take a sample of Jonathan's pork dumplings. They are fantastic. Highly recommended. So, you can't leave this evening until you have an opportunity uh to try the North Atlantic Regional uh award-winning pork dumplings. So, uh make sure you don't leave before that. So, all right. We are transitioning now to the next portion of our presentation. If Mrs. Jones would join me right now. I use the word partner a lot when I talk about uh many of the folks who help make this district go. And I wonder if there is
any partnership as as valued as that between the school district and our various home and school associations. Uh our various uh organizations are made up of parent volunteers who spend countless hours doing wonderful things all focused on improving the school experience for our students. So with that, Mrs. Jones is going to talk about a new initiative that happened this year at New Alb School. Something that added a real treasure to the school. And with that, Mrs. Jones, do you want to talk a little bit about? Thank you. So, I would like to invite our Sihasa members to come up and stand with us. You can bring your kids. Earlier in the school year, um we had a meeting and of course CASSA is always so grateful, gracious, and they always ask us, "What's on your
list of things that you'd like to have us participate in?" So, I had the large idea of, "Well, I tried to earlier move a playset, but in moving that playset, when we got it out of the ground, it just was not safe for our students to use. So I asked the Sihasa to begin fundraising efforts so that we can get a new playground at uh New Wy and to my surprise they said they had some fun money in the funds and they contributed over $13,000 for us to get this beautiful new playset for our students and their goal was to make sure that it was installed for our students to play on this year. So thank you so much for everything that you do. not only this playset, but they give back to our staff.
They give back to our students and our teachers. So, thank you for everything that you've done for us. Thank you. Okay. And we are going to transition now. I think I have to bring up Mr. Creel. It's already there. It's already there. It's all been done for me. So, uh the aforementioned Mrs. Spear uh who currently uh has the title of special projects administrator which means she does an awful lot of stuff and one of those special projects is staff recognition as I mentioned earlier. Last week was educator appreciation week here in Cinnamonson everywhere except for Rush where uh they've continued the party into this into this week as well. Uh but a couple years ago Mrs. Spear came came to me and said, you know, I have a great idea um where we could
really look to make again partnerships with the community to see who out there may be as interested in in saying thank you to our teachers as we are. And wow, was it a huge hit. So with that, I'm going to pass it over to Mrs. Beer is going to talk about some of the folks who were very gracious in supporting this effort this year. Good evening. This past week was staff appreciation week. Each day we did a different activity where the staff could win prizes. Last year, Mrs. Sanders and I drove up and down 130 and around town on two separate days asking for donations. We only collected about 50 gift cards. This year, we had a committee of individuals that helped us. This committee includes Lorraine Everman, Monica her, Jen McNeel, and Megan Shearan.
These individuals are the dream team. These individuals collected over 300 gift cards and prizes worth more than $5,000. Oops. How do I go back? There we go. On Monday, we did a live drawing during school hours. On Tuesday, staff had to answer the question, "What would you name Cinnamonson's pirate?" We have many funny and creative individuals in this district. On Wednesday evening, we had our big event called Wheel of Prizes where we gave out more than 75 gift cards and prizes. On Thursday, we had another quiz where the staff needed to decide what color best matches their personality. And on Friday, the staff was asked to identify another staff member they appreciate and why. Each day, names were chosen at random using a random number generator, and those individuals won a variety of gifts. Every
one of these businesses on the following slides donated either a generous gift card or a prize. I just want to give you some ideas of the prizes that were donated. Bahama Breeze donated a free appetizer happy hour for up to 10 people with unlimited appetizers. Chick-fil-A donated gift baskets that included a stuffed cow, teacher supplies, and gift cards. Dog glide golf, which is new to Cinnamonson, donated a party for up to 40 individuals, and they also donated three 1-hour simulator golf plays. Medford, Hammer, and Stain created a special sign for one very lucky educator. Mayor Monte donated a $100 gift card. And Georgettes will be donating food to our end of the year lunchon. Paige Reese Salon donated a head massage and other items. Pins setters donated a bowling party for up to 10 people
and seasons 52 donated two $52 gift certificates. Lots of sports tickets were donated including the flyers, the Philly and the Philadelphia Union. The Joe Handle, which supported the school district last year, donated generously again this year, giving $300 in gift cards. The Tortilla Press donated a seven course chef's table for up to four individuals. And the Water Street Grill Hilton Hotel donated four gift cards for dinner. They also donated four overnight stays that included a room, parking, and breakfast for dinner. I could go on and on about how generous all of these businesses were to Cinnamon staff. If you are looking for a place to eat, play games, hang out, or get some alone time, I suggest visiting one of the many places that donated. Thank you again to all of the businesses who provided
support. Again, folks definitely rolled out the red carpet uh just to show how much they appreciate. And I know we have a lot of uh new staff who may be in the room this year and I think it is indicative of the kind of family atmosphere we look to create here among our educator staff in Cinnamon. And so with that we have some fantastic and outstanding employees to recognize this evening. U every year the department of education has a statewide governor's educator of the year program where one educator and one ESP from uh every school that participates can nominate someone through a a peer nomination model. uh Cindson has participated in this for roughly the last 10 years and we always take an opportunity to honor these folks at the May board meeting. Uh these
folks will also have an opportunity and are invited to a countywide celebration breakfast on Monday where they'll be recognized uh by the Department of Education and the New Jersey legislature as well. So it's an exciting opportunity to recognize some amazing educators. Uh also our board has a long-standing tradition of recognizing um educators no matter what their role is with the board of education achievement award. Uh, this award also comes with a $500 stipen that can be applied to their classroom, to their learning space or applied to make Cinnamonson a better place for students. And that's really one of the exciting parts is to see how our creative educators can enhance the space that they work in and that their students learn in uh thanks to this grant money that the board has made available to
them. And it's a lovely tradition that we have here and I'm looking forward to recognizing uh some of these fantastic individuals this evening. With that, I'm going to invite my uh principal partners up in just a second to come and read some nomination remarks. But first, we're actually going to start outside of the schools. I'm going to invite my colleague, Mr. Tindle up uh because we also have a board of education achievement award winner uh from our operations department as well. And Mr. Tindle is going to tell you about that individual. You got it. Good evening, uh Mr. Pella, members of the board, honored guests, family, and friends. Uh, it's great pride tonight that uh I introduce young Michael Dunlevy. Come on up, Mike. Michael is a uh 2016 graduate uh through our school system.
Uh he's been with us about six years. Uh he does all the plumbing throughout the district and other jobs, mainly plumbing. So, think about that. All five buildings, he's responsible for the plumbing, water fountains, everything. Uh so proud of him. has come a long way and honored to have him with us. Thanks, Mike. All right. Uh now we are going to recognize the honores from Memorial School. So, uh, if you folks could come up, good evening, everyone. I'd like to introduce Miss Bailey Bond. Bailey is our district's governor educator of the year. Come on up, Bailey. [Applause] [Laughter] So Bailey is the district's governor's ed educational support professional u of the year. Uh so again as Mr. Capella said we have four each of our buildings have a um educator and this is our educational
support professional and the reason she's our support professional is because she is our speech language pathologist of the district. She has been with us for 5 years now in our preschool program. Bailey is an all-star who goes above and beyond for our students in multiple ways providing most accurate and up-to-date language services for our youngest learners. She trains all of our classroom staff to better understand the goals, strategies, and applications that Baly uses to support her students communication growth. You'll often find Baly taking extra time to observe her students on the playground or at lunch to further her connection with them and develop techniques for their learning. Collaborating with administration, staff, and parents, Bailey finds most effective methods to build trust and convey mutual understanding between home and school. consistently advocating for her students and
families. Last year, Bailey tapped into the local cinem education association grants to create connections between communication goals for her students and their families by hosting three evening events which were all all well attended by families, parents, and students. These events create a space for community engagement and learning tools for parents to incorporate into their homes and ultimately reinforce and strengthen our students learning. The programs have been so successful that Bailey organized three more parent evenings this school year with the last one being held this Thursday night. Bailey's level of professionalis professionalism shines as the pride she holds for her work as a parent in the eyes of every child she touches. Bailey's tenacity, commitment, and passion for community engagement make her an excellent choice for this year's district's governor's educational services professional of the year.
Congratulations. [Applause] [Laughter] [Applause] And that's Bailey's fan club cheering away over there. Now, I'd like to introduce our Memorial School Board of Education Award winner, Miss Lydia Gleason. Come on up, Lydia. too, right? Lydia has been an educational support professional for the child study team in our preschool for the past nine years. I can't believe it's my first. Some words to describe Lydia from her teachers that she works with are dependable, reliable, welcoming, caring, supportive, and cheerful. Lydia's colleagues share that she is a wealth of knowledge and ideas and goes above and beyond for both teachers and students in the classroom. She is always a step ahead of the teachers as far as preparing and organizing materials and keeps the classroom running smoothly on a daily basis. In the classroom, Lydia is unbelievably patient and
kind and her students adore her. She provides them with assistance when learning and playing. They want to sit with her, they want to read with her and play with her at recess. She always has something positive to say and makes her students feel special and proud of their accomplishments. Lydia has been a vital member of the preschool team for many years and truly deserving of this award. Congratulations, Lydia. [Applause] So, New Albanesey's Governor Educator of the Year is Miss Olivia Choy. Unfortunately, she's not able to be with us because she just had a baby on Saturday. So, she is home taking care of her precious baby girl. I do want to say a few words about Olivia Choy. So, Miss Choy, I'd like to read a few uh words about her. Um, she works incredibly
hard on a daily basis to meet the needs of her students. She views each of her students as an individual and implements skillful strategies to connect with them in ways that meet their unique and varied needs. Her organization, innovation, attention to detail, and her compassionate heart help her students to succeed and thrive despite any challenges they may face. She approaches her job with humility and dedication, never seeking accolades or recognition. Instead, she's motivated by the small victories her students experience every day when no one else is watching. Olivia inspires students of all backgrounds and abilities to learn. She finds ways to identify her students strengths, recognizing that every student has valuable qualities, even if they also may face some challenges. She uses flexibility, responsiveness, and creativity to design lessons to impact each student how they
learn best. Her classroom is a diverse learning environment made up of children with various cultural backgrounds, both speakers and non-speakers, and three grade levels of students with varying ability. She treats all students with love and respect and is intuitive about how to communicate with each student so she has the best chance of facilitating their success. An ESP from Olivia's classroom stated she will often use silly or funny voices, singing and playing games to keep our students engaged in the lesson. She uses fun reinforcers that students can earn. If one method is not working, she will brainstorm to find another. Olivia has earned the respect and admiration of students, parents, administrators, and colleagues. She is one of the rare people who finds a way to get along with just about everybody. Even though she arguably has
one of the most challenging jobs in the school, she approaches it with joy and gratitude. She respectfully and artfully fulfills her daily responsibilities in a competent and responsible way. Sometimes giving up her duty-free time in order to contribute to the greater good of the students and the school. So for that reason, I am honored to announce that Olivia Choy is the governor's educator of the year for New Albony School. I would like to now invite Mrs. Megan D. Rose up here with me. So, Mrs. Megan D. Rose is our 2025 board of education award recipient for New Albony School. She is one of those people who brightens any room that she walks into. She arrives at school with a positive mindset each day, ready to help out wherever she can, and works hard to provide
the best learning environment possible for her students. With a ready smile for all those she encounters, Megan provides love and support to all of her students that she works with, as well as any student who may have a need in that moment in time. She's also well respected by the staff and students alike. Megan's hard work and dedication do not go unnoticed. She's compassionate, on time, flexible, easy to communicate, and hands down is someone you want in your classroom as an educational support professional. Megan takes direction easily and will always advocate for those around her. She is passionate about her role and makes her day-to-day look seamless. She is always ready to lend a helping hand, share her expertise, and bring joy to daily classroom routines. She often goes above and beyond for all students
at New Albany and willingly steps in to assist any student, even if they are not within her classroom. She offers a calm, warming, and caring environment for all students and has an unwavering ability to deescalate a situation and is not afraid of any challenges. Described by her colleagues, Megan is the best def is the definition of a team player. She is the best classroom assistant you could ask for and New Albany is extremely grateful to have her. It is an honor to recognize Mrs. Megan D. Rose as the New Albony Board of Education award [Applause] recipient. I would like to invite the Rush administrators, Mrs. Genie Apt and Mrs. Kate Millie. Good evening. Mrs. Amanda Kelly, if you would please join me at the podium to be recognized as the Rush School 2025 Governor's Educator
of the Year. Mrs. Amanda Kelly is a member of our fifth grade team who currently teaches literacy and social studies at Rush. Mrs. Kelly goes above and beyond to meet the diverse needs of her students, consistently tailoring her lesson plans to align with student interests and also ensuring that her teaching methods accommodate the various learning styles in her classrooms so that all students feel successful. In addition to her exceptional teaching, Mrs. Kelly is committed to her own professional growth, demonstrated both individually as well as through collaboration with grade level colleagues and departmental colleagues. She has demonstrated an unwavering dedication to expanding her knowledge and skills, most recently learning Portuguese to better communicate with her multilingual students as well as their families, which is yet another example of how hard she works to create an inclusive
classroom where everyone feels welcome. Mrs. Mrs. Kelly's relationship with her students is built on kindness, respect, and perhaps most important of all, trust. She is known for her thoughtfulness, often leaving personalized notes of encouragement for students to find on their desks in the morning. Beyond her classroom, Mrs. Kelly is an active participant in the school community. She can be found volunteering frequently for district fundraising events and is the driving force behind our fifth grade promotion ceremony. Mrs. Kelly's leadership, compassion, and tireless commitment to her students make her an exemplary educator and role model to her colleagues. She is deeply respected by students, parents, administration, and colleagues alike, and I am thrilled to acknowledge her this evening. Congratulations, Mrs. Kelly. [Applause] forgot about her lovely photo. So there she is being recognized. And now I'd like
to introduce Mrs. Jeannie Apt, our brush school assistant principal. Mr. Lions, please join me at the podium to be honored as our board of education achievement award [Applause] recipient. It is my distinct honor to recognize Mr. Rob Lions as the 2025 Board of Education Achievement Award recipient. Mr. Lions has been a valued member of the Cinnamonson School District staff since he was hired in 2001. Beginning as a member of the third grade team and now serving as our project challenge gifted and talented teacher at Russian New Albany schools, he consistently designs innovative lessons and projects that stretch students thinking, spark creativity, and foster a love of learning. He is encouraging of his students ideas and designs as evidenced by facilitating their participation in the steam tank competition each year. With a spouse also working in
the district at the high school, education is truly a family mission, one that has greatly benefited the students of Cinnamonson. We are proud to recognize Mr. Lions with the board of education achievement award this year and thank him for his unwavering dedication, creativity, and impact. [Applause] I could ask our staff from Cinnamonson Middle School to come. Got it. Good evening everyone. It is my great honor, let me see, let me change this here to stand before you tonight and introduce an outstanding educator, Mrs. Stephanie Halabura. Stephanie, could you come on up? Stephanie is a sixth grade social studies teacher and she is our nominee for the governor's educator of the year award. She's a kind teacher that every student remembers. She meets each child where they are, building strong connections not only with the students
but with their families. Parents regularly praise her and her for her approachability, compassion, and genuine care. Beyond her classroom, Stephanie leads with heart and purpose. As the adviser to the junior cinema mentors, she mentors over 30 seventh and eighth graders who serve as school ambassadors, guiding families during back to school night, assisting at school musicals, and welcoming incoming students during their orientation and at Camp Aanick. one of our favorites, right? She also advises the CMS Unity Club, a group of 50 students who promote diversity, equity, and inclusion. Under her leadership, they organize powerful events like the annual senior holiday breakfast, the community soup dinner, and creating moments of gratitude and connection that extend beyond our school walls. Stephanie's organizational talents are second to none. This year alone, she coordinated a flawless field trip to the
Penn Museum for over 200 students, handling transportation, chaperones, and every last detail. She also organized a meaningful visit for our unity club students to the 911 memorial, enriching their understanding and of history and civic responsibility. As a leader in the social studies department, Stephanie supports her colleagues, especially new teachers, with mentorship, collaboration, and kindness. Her professionalism and positivity have strengthened both our department and our school community. Stephanie is more than deserving of this honor. She is a mentor, a role model, and a constant source of light for our students and staff alike. Please join me in congratulating Miss Stephanie Halabura. [Applause] And next, I'd like to call up Miss Bethany Creel. Miss Bethany Creel is our board of education award winner for Cinnamonson Middle School. Bethany is an exceptional teacher, leader and colleague, and she
had many people who reached out to nominate her for this award. So, a lot of the words that uh I am telling you tonight came straight from her colleagues. In the classroom, Bethany has always strived for more than just a good lesson. With over 15 years of experience as a language arts teacher, she consistently reinvented her approach to spark a love of writing in all students, even the most reluctant ones. From exploring the spooky tales of Po to writing tall tales, re researching kid- centric topics, and designing vivid infographics on deadly diseases. She really kept their attention. Bethany brought creativity and purpose to every lesson. She didn't just teach writing. She taught students how to think, research, manage their time, and communicate effectively. Now, wrapping up her first year this year as our new computer
science teacher, Bethany has embraced her new role with a related arts program, impacting even more students. She dove into this transition with enthusiasm, dedicating her summer to professional development and coursework to prepare herself. She does have a little inside help from her husband, Mr. Creel, who is our technology director. Today, she leads with engaging lessons on programming, 3D printing, coding, gaming, AI, and internet safety. Her classroom is filled with excitement and discovery, and students look forward to every project. Bethany is fearless when it comes to reinventing her practice and her classroom, all in the service of her students. As a leader, Bethany helped found and continues to run our National Junior Honor Society chapter, guiding seventh and eighth graders to contribute over 1,000 hours of community service last year alone. She holds her students to
high standards and teaches them the value of responsibility and giving back. Her work has helped shape the NJHS into a cornerstone of excellence at CMS. As a colleague, Bethany is always the first to offer support. She eagerly collaborates on interdisciplinary projects from zoo field trips to bacteria research. inside joke. She's quick to share ideas and resources, and she's always thinking of others. Leaving kind notes or small treats to brighten someone's day. Her thoughtfulness, generosity, and unwavering positivity make her an invaluable member of our school community. Bethany Krel exemplifies everything that we value in an educator. She is deeply respected by her students, their families, her colleagues, and the administration. Her selfless dedication, adaptability, and passion for teaching make her the ideal candidate for the board of ed achievement award. Congratulations, Bethany. And next up, I
would like to introduce our principal of the high school, Mr. Ryan Gorman, and assistant principal, Mrs. Ashley Calfazade. I am honored to recognize Mr. Craig Angelini as the 2024 New Jersey Governor Educator of the Year for Cine High School. [Applause] Mr. Angelini embodies what it means to be an exceptional educator. His dedication to his students, innovative approach to teaching, and passion for education and life outside of the classroom have left an indelible mark on our school. What set Craig's apart is not just his ability to teach, but how he lives what he teaches. As an environmental scientist, marine biologist, and avid outdoorsman, Craig brings a wealth of real world experience to his classroom, making lessons engaging, relevant, and truly meaningful. His students don't just learn science, they experience it, and they grow to love it.
He truly, and sometimes literally makes the material come to life for his students. Throughout his tenure, Craig has made remarkable contributions to our academic programs. He's been a trailblazer in our science department, developing an environmental science curriculum that has grown to include three sections of advanced placement environmental science, a true testament to his vision and dedication. This year, he further expanded our science off offerings by introducing a marine biology course, sparking curiosity and excitement among students eager to explore the mysteries of the marine world. Craig's contributions extend far beyond the classroom. He founded the fishing club, offering students a unique opportunity to connect with nature and learn about ecological systems in a hands-on way. He also spearheaded the district STEM fair, an incredible event where high school students showcase their scientific innovations and teach third
graders from Rush about the wonders of STEM. Through these efforts, Craig has inspired countless students and fostered love of science across all grade levels. If that were not enough, Craig also advocated for, created, and coached our boys lacrosse team. Starting a new sports program is no small feat, but Craig embraced every challenge and frustration with determination and grit, building a program that now offers our student athletes opportunities they might never have had otherwise. Congratulations to Mr. Craig Angelini, Simmonson High School's educator of the year. [Applause] Excuse me. It is my honor to commend this year's recipient of the Cinnamonson Board of Education Achievement Award, Donna Saxton. Donna radiates positivity, commitment, and care. The first day I actually met her at the high school, she welcomed me and instantly gave me this sense of warmth and
comfort. And I feel I felt like I just knew her for years. Honestly, I never told you that, but that's how I felt. Um, even this morning, I was talking to a student who doesn't even have Donna um in her classroom, and she said one day she was having a panic attack, a really difficult time. Um, she saw her in the hallway and just swept her up into a classroom and instantly just made her feel better. Just that's what she does. And that's just a small example of the large impact that she has in our school. At Cinnamonson High School, she brings boundless energy and love to work every single day. Whether she's supporting students in the classroom or simply passing by in the hallway, she just radiates warmth. Her tough love approach strikes the
perfect balance between high expectations and nurturing support. And she helps our special education students thrive academically and personally and socially and all of the above. Um Donna is tireless in her dedication. She works across subject areas. She coordinates with teachers, clarifies assignments, goes the extra mile to make sure the students have what they need to succeed. This year, she took her commitment to new heights during the senior class trip where she went to Disney World as a one-on-one aid for one of our students. Um, for five days straight, Donna was giving her all each day to ensure that her student had lasting memories. She coordinated with other teachers and parents. She shared updates and made the trip unforgettable for everyone that was involved. Um, she uplifts our students, our staff, our entire school community, and
she is a gift to Cinnamonson High School. So please join me in congratulating her this year. [Applause] preview for next time. How about one last round of applause for all of our honores this evening? So, in just a moment, I'm going to ask Mrs. Fitzwater if the board could take a brief recess so that folks could come up and take pictures. Uh but something new we haven't done before. Um if all of the award recipients this evening could please come up to the front and join our board of education in one group photo. We're going to try it. We've never done it before. It's going to be great. Uh very briefly before we take a recess and uh on your way out uh we'll be serving Jonathan's uh pork dumplings. So make sure you grab
one if you are going to leave. Of course you are welcome to stay for the second part of the evening, but it looks like we have some young ones who might need to get some homework done. And we're definitely approaching bedtime in certain situations. So, if all the award winners who are still here could come up to the front. If board members, you can come to the other side of the table. We'll take a group photo. Can we call for a recess real quick, though? Oh, yeah. We're going to take an 8 to 10 minute recess. What's that? You gave and we'll figure it out. So, I got it back together. Pick up two more. Three more on the table. I mean, that's kind of fun. Low key. We're going to move on with the
meeting. I'm not good luck. All right, we're moving on to section 8 correspondence to the board. Uh it was actually a pretty quiet month on my end. I didn't have have much of anything. Anybody uh have anything to share? here. Um I had um two residents reach out requesting the board um amend policy 2431 allow homeschoolers to comm to in our community the ability to participate in school sports. And then I received a phone call very last minute regarding IDEA part B. Um, and they asked if our district would provide training for administrators and teachers on the best way to apply the least restrictive environment for special education students in a general education setting. Um, they also asked if Cinnamon will be willing to partner with allin for inclusive education and if we would apply
for the grant that they offer. So that's my communication. Thank you. And I'm sure you shared that with the superintendent. that started today. Yeah, I will. Okay, great. All right, moving on. Anyone else? Okay, moving on to section 9 committee reports. Uh, we had a curriculum committee meeting this month and Mr. Mer is going to give us the minutes of that. Routine requests for field trips and professional development were reviewed. The committee was informed of two textbook requests for social studies classes, seventh grade geography and AP government. A request to dispose of two textbooks no longer in use was reviewed. Annual memberships that are approved each May were discussed. These include NJSAA, BCSL, the county crisis response team, and the county professional develop institute. The committee reviewed in detail the needs assessment Mr. Garrison had shared at the April 30th meeting, beginning with Memorial School. The needs assessment for New Albany and Rush were also discussed during this meeting. Mark Tindle, head of facilities, attended the meeting to give input as to the projects that have or can be completed inhouse, thus lowering the cost of the referendum. Subcommittees were discussed. During this meeting, we came up with three subcommittees, uh, communications, finance, and construction. These committees will include multiple stakeholders within the community. They have not yet been um filled. Um the next
meeting date was set for Monday, May 12th, which was yesterday at 3 p.m. We did meet again then. 086cafeterium. And more information is on the district website. Thanks. Okay. Thank you. We are going to convene into executive session, but we will not have any business after the uh executive session. Right. So um Mr. Kenny, can I have a motion to convene into executive session? So moved. Second. Second. Thank you, Mr. Minker. All in favor? Opposed? We're moving into executive session. Good night, folks.
