if I may, Mr. Rus. Um, Mrs. Mr. Brew >> here. >> Mr. Capano here. >> Mrs. Fredo >> here. >> Mr. Garcia >> here. >> Mr. Nrew >> here. >> Dr. Pontiliano >> here. >> Mr. Rancor >> here. >> Mr. Mr. Russo is not here. Mr. Bbakia >> here. >> And Mr. Yanuzi is not here. >> Mr. Rinfus. >> All right. Thank you, Mr. Alfano. Thank you, Board of Education. Uh, a couple updates from this week. Uh, it was nice to see a lot of our support staff back in the building. We had our child study team, school counselors, ESL coordinators, after school coordinator all return to the building on Monday. Um, getting settled in and getting prepared for the upcoming school year that's going to start next week. All administrators who conduct uh classroom
evaluations received their training from the strong evaluation system on Tuesday. Uh we did pass with a 100% success rate. Um our school counselors uh also received training. uh their training was in the Colombia screening test and this is a test where um any student who is exhibiting any self harm characteristics or tendencies um would be screened by two individuals in the school. So all of our school counselors are now um fully trained in the Colombia screener. We were lucky enough to have our new teaching staff in this uh in this room this morning. We had our new teacher orientation um that lasted all day today. Those teachers have the option of going into their school buildings tomorrow to set up classrooms and meet with various supervisors or administrators to talk about the specifics of the
upcoming school year. Uh we do have about 30 new staff members. So it was great seeing their faces again um because a few of them were hired um over the last couple weeks, last couple months. Um so it has been a little bit of time since we've seen them. So, it was nice seeing them um back on property today. Mr. Reggusa is our afterchool program coordinator. Um he is still taking applications. So, if there are any families of uh children from preK up to grade 6 looking for an afterchool option, Mr. Reggusa is willing and able to kind of walk you through the application process. Some schools do have weight lists. Um, so it's better or sorry, it's best to get those applications in as as soon as you can. Okay. Uh, during the first
month of school, we will have our back to school nights in all of the elementary schools, middle school, and high school. Back to school nights are a great way for families to meet the teachers, meet the administration in all of our buildings. Those programs begin at 6:00. I will be hosting a meet the superintendent meet and greet at 5:00 before each of the elementary school uh back to school nights. The middle school and high school will be scheduled at a later date. I do want to give a big shout out to uh Mrs. Susan Weiner. She's our director of guidance over at the high school. She's done a tremendous job this summer um as well as the school counselors with limiting the number of study hall classes for our freshman and sophomores as well as
opening up zero period classes for a lot of our high achievers as well as ML students. So, these classes are going to begin before the official school day, giving students an opportunity to take more um advanced placement classes and honors classes before um the rest of the students begin their day at 8:40. And we have about 270 students um taking one of 16 classes during that uh zero period. So, that's uh that's great to see. Another big uh shout out to Frank Savastano and the technology department for getting new Chromebooks out to our fifth graders and our ninth graders. Um just as a reminder, the Chromebooks are expected to be kept in working condition. The chargers that are given to you are loan to you. Um, and you know, just as a reminder to the
families, if any of the Chromebooks or chargers do not come uh returned to the school at the end of the year, um, there will be replacement fees. When parents are logging into the parent portal, the technology agreement is available. So, please be sure to look it over with the code of conducts as well as a few other uh forms of paperwork that do need to be completed by the families. Um, and we are looking forward to seeing the kids next week and Mr. Alfano, I believe that is it for the superintendent report. >> Okay. Just have a few items. Mr. Rinfus, um, obviously we just in the process pretty much closing the year 2425. We've opened the new year. Auditors have been on site. Uh so we should have a pretty good idea of where
we landed in the old year and where our surplus is going to be to help us move forward with some potential capital project for next spring and summer. I'd like to for you to take your eyes on the agenda if I may to pages uh through 24. Those will be resolutions number 62. Number 67 pages 19- 24. resolutions number 62 and we've done a lot of facilities work this summer with the help of our facilities manager Mr. Spanella appreciate the board's support, the staff's report, the principles, and the administrator's resp uh support in the buildings that all the work is being done. So, page 19, resolution 62. This is a redo. Uh I was appointed as the QPA back in May 6th when we did our reorganization, but the threshold changed for a QPA threshold,
the bid threshold from 44,000 to 53,000 at July 1st. So that's the reason why we have this resolution appointing me because the uh the threshold moved from 44,000 to 43,000 for a qualified purchasing agent in regard to the bid threshold. Uh page 20 resolution number 63. Uh as you know we've been working on the cafeteria renovation and we have Blackstone who's currently doing our multi-purpose room. They're going to be doing the opening of the cafeteria door expansion project. Uh we're just waiting on that steel beam. Uh hopefully they're going to have it in the coming days. Then we'll work with the administration and the principal to the best time to do that work, but they should have the beam in in the coming days. That's page 20, resolution 63. Resolution 64, page 21. Um, this
was a project done by ATG restoration specialist from Mrs. Rouses' school number four. Uh, they essentially removed the balcony which is becoming a security and safety issue. They did patchwork and they repointed the masonry. You didn't even know that the balcony you see him Mr. Rinfest. I did you >> you wouldn't know the balcony was there. Just wonderful work. We got a winner in this ag restoration specialist. They really did wonderful and it's done. clean, quiet, respectful, uh very good group, very good group of folks. Um resolution 65, page 22, uh Jose Pardo, one of our local contractors, does very very good work. Uh did some work at school three and room 107, the supervisor's office, and the high school guidance suite. And Mr. Rinfist, I know you comment commented on that. Um the work
was done quickly, efficiently, effectively, and it it just looks I saw the high school guide. I haven't had a chance to walk into school three, but if it looks anything like the high school guidance suite, uh we're going to be very very happy with the work that is done. Also, quickly on page 23, resolution 66, um we spoke about this in our work session. We got Dorgi Carpentry is going to be doing some of the acoustical ceiling work at the high school gym lobby. Mr. Janui, the principal, is aware of this. It's not yet uh started. We'll find he'll be doing the work after hours and during the weekend. He should be done um hopefully in the next week or so. Uh page 24, resolution 67. Again, also for the gym lobby, same contract at
the LOI. It's going to be doing some of the uh cabinetry work uh in the high school gym lobby. He's just waiting on materials. U he comes highly referenced. We got multiple quotes and he was by far the lowest quote and he was uh got very very good references and the good news he's he's a local gentleman also. So that's essentially um kind of the overview of the key facility projects. And I just want to take your eyes to page 28, resolution number 71. The reason why we have this resolution, it's the Hunter County Educational Services Commission. We have to become an a me a member of that commission which is essentially all the cooperative vendors and contractors are part of that and our gym floor multi-purpose room project that we're going to hopefully start
November 5th. Matthysse LLC incorporated is going to be doing the work for us. They are part of this cooperative. So we needed to join the Huntington County Cooperative Educational Services Commission which we are approving tonight. I will send the point person from that cooperative the resolution tomorrow and then we'll be in play to do work with any county cooperatives moving forward in Hunter County. Uh we haven't done much work in Hunter County. Uh we've got Bergen County. We've got a lot of different counties. We're part of Union County, Somerset County, uh Bergen County, ESCJ. We're a part of a lot of county cooperatives. We weren't part of this one. So now we are. So it'll be all set once Matthysse um immobilizes. We expect to get the flooring in in October and then mobilizing November.
So that's pretty much my update, Mr. Rhinus. >> Thank you, Mr. >> Of course. My pleasure. >> I just a question. Is there a fee for joining that? >> No. >> Just have to prove that you're a school district and you have the federal ID number. And uh that's pretty much it. Yeah. >> Okay. Are there any committee reports or any questions from the >> I don't have a committee report but since I looked at the list and I have curriculum I would love to defer to Mrs. Calgary's and maybe you can just tell us a little the audience anyway how the new teacher orientation went the highlights >> yes >> the new math supervisor >> oh yes of course so the new teacher orientation was today and as Mr. Rinus said we um had
uh many of our supervisors presenting and our principles presented today. Um we have about 30 new staff members. Um one of the great things um is that we were able to reorganize our supervisors this year a little bit uh with the shifting of Mr. um Spero becoming a vice principal and Mr. um O'Hanlin assumed his responsibilities. So that left a little bit of an opening with our supervisor. So we were able to um post a position for a an elementary social studies and math supervisor and we were able to um hire Josh Farah and he is um certified in math and social studies. So he was able to work today and you know with the new with the new teachers and we're really really excited because that is something that we've really needed. I know
Dr. Vantiano you've wanted that for a very long time. So thank you to the board of education um you know for that. But really it was Mr. Jinucci's brainchild from the high school that he wanted to reorganize the supervisors a little bit and came to Mr. Rinus and I um with this um idea and we we we were very excited. So um Josh comes to us um with a lot of experience um working with um particular with elementary in particular. So we're really excited and has a lot of knowledge with uh working with data and standards which I'm very excited. So he's working he worked today with Mr. Alban and knows Renaissance and I excel. So we should be, you know, really really set up this year to work with like targeted assistance students. So,
I'm really excited. So, kudos to Mr. Janucci because it sounds like he was able to save a staff member at the high school that benefited the elementary level. That's that's a beautiful thing for a new principal to be able to do. >> And I'm very excited because I know this will probably benefit our math scores at the elementary level, which I know that's something that we, you know, we've hoped for and we've wanted to see. So any support obviously that the board could give, but I think that's going to go a long way in helping us uh already talking about bringing in math nights, parent engagement math nights and beautiful. >> Yes. So that should be coming, you know, to to the table. So, >> well, thank you for your hard work and thank you
both for your hard work and dedication to doing the facilities. You had a busy summer, I'm sure. >> It was. Thank you. >> Thank you. >> I'll see if uh Lieutenant Terbach, you have any any commentary, tenant? >> No, no, >> okay. Thank you. Any any questions Dave from the public? >> Anything else from just one last thing before we kind of wrap up the summer and head back to school um just here in a few days. Just wanted to give a big thank you to the board um for all of your support as well as Mrs. Calib um and Mr. Alfano and the central office staff just for your patience, your knowledge um and you know your overwhelming support whether it's through you know emails or you know texts or just conversations that we've
been having. I truly truly appreciate it and I thank you for that. So for those of you who are wrapping up summer, maybe heading back to uh work yourselves, I wish you wish you well in that as well. That's it. >> All set. Okay. I'm going to take a uh vote now on the agenda. >> Sure. >> I'll make a motion to >> Okay. That's Mr. Garcia. May I have a second if I may, please? >> I'll second. Hello. >> Okay. Lieutenant. Thank you. Okay. We'll go for a vote now. Mrs. Abru. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Freda. >> Yes. >> Mr. Garcia. >> Yes. >> Mr. Nadrew. >> Yes. >> Dr. Pantiano. >> Yes. >> Mr. Rancor. >> Yes. >> Mr. Terabakia. >> Yes. >> Okay. Great. >> Okay. So move, Mr. Rinfus. >> Can
we have a motion to adjourn? >> Thank you, Mr. Rank. >> I'll make a motion. I'll second it. >> Thank you, everyone. All right. Enjoy your Labor Day weekend. I wish you good uh weather. >> Thank you, M.
