Okay, Mr. >> Great. Thank you, Mr. Alfano. Welcome to the board of education meeting. Uh, thank you board members for making it in person as well as virtually. I know we have some uh who are not able to be here because of the difficulties with traveling abroad, um, scheduling vacations, but we thank you for your efforts in attending whichever way you so choose. Uh just a few updates uh from the summer uh events that we have going on. Um we are finalizing most of the job postings that we have within the agenda this evening. We will see a number of recent new hires that we are thrilled to have joined the Cliffside Park team. We are down to, I believe, just two maternity positions within the district, which is a great sign considering we still
have about five weeks left until uh the first day of school. Um, a couple weeks ago, we did receive the preliminary NJSLA scores from students who took state testing last spring. Um so we're in the process of analyzing those scores and looking forward to sharing them with students and parents um in the fall. Uh we also have a few updates with our policies and guidelines. We are in the process of having a number of those policies updated after working with and speaking with uh Strauss Esme uh the company that the board of education has been using for a number of years. We got back a fair report, but we do have a number of uh policies and guidelines that do need to be um updated just a bit. Two weeks ago, we received word uh
from our QAC review um that we are a highly effective district. We received an 80% rating in all five of the categories. So, thank you to Mrs. Calibris and the other members of the administration, teachers, support staff for making that highly effective rating um come to fruition. There is one um resolution I would like to point out, Mr. Alfano, if we could jump ahead to page five. So, resolution number 20, one um appointment that is going to be approved tonight is the appointment of Michael Sporto as the high school vice principal. Mr. Sperto's been in district for a number of years as a special education teacher, a coach, uh middle school teacher, a and most recently um the supervisor of pupil personnel. So, we interviewed a few candidates and Michael Spuro um will be named
as the high school vice principal and we are looking forward to seeing him thrive in in this new role. Okay. And that is all I have, Mr. Alfano. >> Thank you, Mr. Ryan. First, I have a couple of resolutions I want to bring to the attention of the board and the public. Um resolutions uh 69 and 70 may help with the pages are pages 25 and 26. >> I'm sorry. It was an echoing of the HBC unit if you could talk a little bit. >> Of course. Of course, Mr. Capan. Um so resolution 69 and 70 pages 25 and 26. Those are our two uh capital projects that are going on. Uh Blackstone is doing a multi-purpose room at number six school and K&D is engaging in the un ventilator project at number six school.
Both are progressing um very well. So uh fingers crossed in regard to that. Um on page 29 which is a resolution 73 uh we are investing in our food service business uh bringing on three new uh steam tables for our elementary schools which is not only going to help us in regard to you know bringing on new equipment which will be more efficient and effective but also giving us the ability to really drive some incremental sales and potentially cost savings both on the revenue side and the expense side. We expect then to be delivered in the next two to three weeks. Alex Rosenberg from Paltonian, our food service provider, a great help in regard to getting that off the ground. Um, >> so those are for the elementary schools. >> Yes, that that is correct,
Dr. Pathiano. That's for schools three, four, and five. Okay. Page 32, resolution 76. It's our June reports. Those are our fiscal year-end reports that uh will be going down to the county secretary report, a treasury report, and our transfer report. And then on page 34, which is resolution 78, we work with a consultant and contractor who provides us a consulting data and direction in regard to getting the best deals for kilowatts in themsel benefit. And this will be Smartest Energy that we will be engaging in September on a 36-month contract for as a kilowatt electricity supplier. Uh they do incremental analysis. They go out to bid on the open market for uh energy and uh they do cost analysis and directionally they're incrementally smartest. Energy we're going to be engaging are about 2 cents lower
per kilowatt. When you you think of two cents, you don't think of it's a lot of money, but when you annualize that over a 12-month period, it could be anywhere from 25 to $40,000 in savings. They have a tracking mechanism in place to make sure that those savings are continuous over the 36-month period. It's fixed versus public services uh variable costs and we are in one they call it one fixed billing. So even though we've engaged Smartest Energy to be our kilowatt provider, uh we we are still be we still bill through public service. So the bill still goes through public service. So we only have we call it one bill. We have multiple suppliers for gas and electric, but the billing goes through PSENG. And I just want to mention pages 36 and 37
we'll be awarding the to Matthysse the five school gym floor project on page 36 resolution 79 and on page 37 resolution 80 will be awarding to Murray paving concrete for the high school paving project. That's pretty much it. Mr. Rice on my side. Okay, >> I have a question. >> Thank you. >> I have a question. >> Sure. >> Number 74. What needs funding for optimal comprehensive universal screeners? What are universal screens? >> What's the P? >> It's a grant page 30. What? I'm just curious for >> Oh, the f Oh, the focus. The focus grant. >> Yes. >> I I can engage uh Mr. Alban. It's a brand new grant that we got about $7,600 and I can give an overview. I don't want to misspeak. It's actually a brand new grant that we
just got allocation for. >> Oh, I never saw it before. >> Brand new. They call it focus Dr. Pantalana because of the funding optimal comprehensive universal screeners. That's the acronym. >> I don't know what universal screen. >> Does it have to do with the universal screeners that the prek have to use? So, we have to I think >> I think Mrs. Calibri, your theory is correct. Yes, I remember Angelo explaining. >> So, the Department of Education said that we need to select um a universal screener for our uh preK. Uh it's K through two actually. It's K through two. So, it we were >> Mrs. Calibration, not to interrupt, you're you are correct. I found I found some notes from Angela. We were considering using Dibbles, but we're very lucky that Renaissance, the program, you
know, the the big company that we've been working with, they have a universal screener that's kind of like built in. And we we've been training all week with them, Mr. Savisano, myself, uh, Miss Vela, and um, Miss Weiner, the director of guidance up at the high school. Um, Miss Weiner actually spearheaded this with Miss Vela and Mr. Savastano and Mr. Alban and they put together what we call a power team and um it's like a data power team and it's under it falls under the MTSS umbrella and now this the universal screeners will come out of there and they're really through for through K through two. >> So the screen question is a tool yes to screen students I guess for placement and so so we've already looked at my notes. Yeah, Angelo he had
to explain it to me too. So it is a universal street. They have a couple of them that you can use, but we have a built-in one in Renaissance. >> Thank you. >> And how I understand this could be a yearly allocation. >> Oh, that's good. >> Could be a yearly application. We'll see. >> Thank you. Good question. I learned something too. Thank you, Mrs. Calgary. >> Am I hearing? >> It's rain. >> Oh, it's rain. Okay. I thought something was happening to the ceiling or something. >> You need the rain though. car on it. >> Not too much though on Oak Dean. >> Okay. >> Keep it away from Oak. You know that. >> Oh yes. >> Yeah. We we have our challenges there on Oak. >> Not only the houses there, but our
our basement. >> Correct. >> Um Mr. Ran, that's pretty much wraps up my my overview. >> Sounds good. >> Want to check uh any questions from Dr. Pantheon, any questions? No, >> I have committee reports. Mr. >> Okay. >> Any committee reports? >> It's kind of a committee report. >> This started with the renovation project for the high school lobby >> and the board uh decided that we were going to recognize certain groups of students, especially ones that weren't recognized by the Coast Park Hall of Fame. So, we're going to have a cheer for the cheerleaders, a cheer wall of fame. and I met with coach Van Deal and actually Laura Sandra who was a cheerleader um in the '9s and we're going to start recognizing some cheerleaders every year every other year but in
conjunction with that we would like to you know depending on proper approvals we would like to run an alumni brunch before the homecoming game. So, the homecoming game is September 20th. What we would like to do is invite for a fee any uh graduates of Coast Park High School or probably anybody who attended here at all uh young alumni alumni to the alumni brunch on September 20th and that would be the homecoming game. So, our vote would be to have the brunch for the alumni and then have them stay and attend the homecoming game. And then at the homecoming game, we would recognize uh some of our former cheerleaders and some of them will be recognized with a plaque on the wall in the new lobby, very similar to the Hall of Fame. And then
we would also not only like to recognize our cheerleaders from years ago, but we want to actually, and thanks to Mrs. Calibri, we want to recognize some of our more recent alumni. So the goal was to at least recognize at halftime the two cheerleading squads that have recently won the league. I believe it's the squad of 2020 and the squad of 2024. So these are all in preliminary discussions, but we didn't want to just do the cheerleaders from years ago. We wanted to make sure that we involved the young alumni and have them come back as well. Maybe not necessarily with a plaque, but at least a recognition at halftime, you know, of the two squads that have recently won the league title. We're in preliminary discussions. We have to meet with Ponttonian. We're going
to see if they can actually cook the brunch for us. But we will be selling tickets for the alumni brunch. And our hope is anybody who attended Cliffside Park High School, come to the homecoming game and come to the brunch beforehand. Meet up with your, you know, old friends from school. Come back to town. Enjoy. Great. And then at halftime, we will support the cheerleaders. And I want to thank Coach Mandal because he's been very supportive of the cheerleaders. And I do appreciate that and I want to thank Laura Sander who actually coming out of cheer retirement to help spearhead this. So uh more information to come. >> That's great. Could even get the uh culinary students involved. >> That would be wonderful. See I want to I want to bring alumni and young alumni
uh together. So hopefully we'll have as many young alumni as we do uh more distant alone. >> Sure. Love it. >> Are there any other committee reports anybody would like to share? Frank from the public. Thank you. >> Done. >> Yeah. I want to make a motion to approve the agenda. >> Yep. >> I'll second it. >> That first was uh Mr. Capano and the second was Mr. Russo. Okay. >> Okay. We'll now take a vote the agenda. Mrs. Abru's not here. Mr. Capano. >> Yes. >> Mr. Sprader was not here. Mr. Garcia is not here. Mr. The Drew. >> Yes. >> Dr. Pantaliano. >> Yes. >> Mr. Rancor. >> Thank you, Mr. Rancort. >> Mr. Russo. >> Yes. >> Mr. Terabakia. >> Yes. >> And Mr. Yanuzi. >> Yes. >> Okay. Okay. Mr. Ryan.
So moved. Right. Well, good. Motion to adjurnn. So moved. >> Okay. Thank you, Mr. Capana. Thank you, everyone. >> Enjoy enjoy this.
