002Dr pontano go ahead do you go first yes I have some very exciting news to share this evening our very own uh student council Irene ropos has been selected as Cliffside Park's representative for the 2024 National girls and women in sports day so on Sunday January 14th at Jersey Mikes Arena recers women's basketball host Penn State at 2 all njsiaa member schools nominate one female student athlete to attend the event Irene our representative and three uh of her family members will have admission to the game and she will be recognized during halftime and the njsiaa will provide a certificate and small gift to each athlete I'm very proud of Irene and I'm very proud of the girls volleyball team who have brought the first Banner to Cliffside Park in volleyball I was in the gym
003the banner isn't even up yet there's nothing up there for volleyball so congratulations to the team team to coach brunelli on getting coach of the year for his Division and uh for Irene being recognized as the learo for that team congratulations Irene and we wish everyone a happy and healthy holiday season awesome awesome so I would like to reiterate what I said at our work session and thank our athletic director David porpo for the notes that I believe everyone has and uh glad to have a chance to look them over and a lot of good news in there so public and Board of Education thank you to Mr porfido for all he does for our student athletes and for reporting out on it this evening I'd also like to once again commend Mrs martinat and
004the entire staff at PS number five for the awesome recognition that they received as being an Esa distinguished School award and and over the next few months as the state department communicates more with us regarding uh Commissioners visits and celebrations I'll keep the Board of Education apprised uh regarding the agenda items 29 Personnel resolutions 10 policy and procedure resolutions and four Hib investigations of the four Hib investigations two are confirmed two are only alleged and not confirmed but in each instance parents were notified counseling was provided and one of the confirmed had a student who was suspended for disciplinary reasons um other than that I also wish everyone a happy and healthy holiday season and as your interm superintendent I just want to once again Express to all of you my gratitude I'm truly honored
005to be in clide park and it's we're kind of at the midyear point and I believe in knockwood that we're having a successful School Year and thank you board of education for your support really appreciate it and thank you for your leadership thank you um you had big shoes to fill I certainly did and we have had a very smooth transition in my opinion so thank you very much for all you do for us to the shoes I fill I want you to know I speak to Mr romanino at least twice a week thank you you we um Mr Alano that concludes superintend report okay there's a couple of items Dr Hayes um we are in the midst of getting our bids together effects and advertisements for two major projects we've been talking to the
006board about um doing the external component of the gymnasium lobby at the high school and the addition we'll keep everyone posted on that we're buttoning up the spec with land Associates our architect and engineering firm and we're also going to take on a uh univent project at number six school that will also hopefully be happening in late spring and that will be going out bid the good news about that project is we are getting a rod Grant which will approximately 40% of the cost will be reimbursed through a grant and that's probably based on the allocation and the assessment of the project that grants could be worth in the neighborhood of $700,000 so we'll keep everyone posted on those two major potential bid projects high school gym Lobby Renault and addition and the uh installation
007of all un AG vac at school number six um the full year 23 audit which was the school year that ended in June uh went well I handed out all the booklets to the board the corrective action plans all the key documents have been uploaded we've started ear our early audit deliverables for full year 24 uh our transportation report our enrollment report which is called Assa and our charter school report all have been certified on time and all have been audited and approved by our Auditors so uh we're are now going to get once January comes around we're going to get into the software for the 2425 budget and I'll keep the board and the finance committee apprised of the first blush what we look like in regard to the Gap the Gap is usually
008our expenses exceed our revenues the first Go Round And we decide where we're going to make appropriate cutdowns to balance the budget but again unfortunately timing we don't get our state aid to the very very very end of the process which is the end of February and a week later we have to hit the button and deliver it to the county and the state that's the tricky part of budgeting you don't know if you're going to get the same state aid year-over-year higher or lower we've been running like an EKG over the last four years we were lower year over year four years ago then we were higher then we were lower and last year were higher year over year so we really difficult to forecast when you don't really have a trend line uh
009we haven't got any ction if they believe state will be flat will be incrementally higher so again you're flying a little bit blind what we do in the first blushes of the budget in January we keep it flat year over-ear then we do some sensitivity tests what happens if we get 15% less what does that do to the budget what happens if we get 10% more so we do what if scenarios just to kind of replicate if we do get same state aid if we get higher state a or lowest they we're kind of prepared to understand where we have to make Cuts or we have the flexibility of pumping more dolls into certain line items so we do all that prior to actually getting the formal state aid notice which again doesn't happen till
