salute pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands one nation under God individual Mr alfana thank you Dr pampiliano I'd just like to read a quick statement if I may the New Jersey open public meeting law was enacted to ensure the rights of the public to an advance notice oven to intend the meeting of public bodies in which any of this is affecting their interests is discussed in accordance with the provision of this act the Cliffside Park Board of Edis cause notice of this meeting to be published by having a date time in place they are us hosted in the office of the borough clerk Borough Library the borough rec department and the office of the Board of Ed and the offices of school
number three four five six and the high school on April 4th 2023 and noticing for forward to the reporters of the record April 4th 2023 this is an official meeting I'll just take the role now Dr patliana yes okay Mrs Abreu here Mr capano here Mrs Fredo Mr Garcia Mr nedrew Dr pantaliano here Mr Rancor here Mr Russo here Mr bakchia here and I don't see Mr uh your nursing okay Dr pantayano yes um in lieu of the superintendent's reporters Mr Roman Gino is not here this evening I would just like to thank a few uh groups out there I attended the fashion show last week the high school had a fashion show and it was absolutely wonderful it was well attended the students had a wonderful time and it was a very successful evening
I believe that Mrs liso is the interim president of the PTA at the high school and Fran stamber was the chair of the fashion show I want to thank them I want to thank all of the parents that attended the staff that attended there were many staff members there and of course the students who without it would not be possible also last night was the awards night and I understand it went for several hours and thousands and thousands of dollars were given out in awards for our very deserving for these seniors so I want to thank everyone who donated so generously to those scholarships and congratulate all of our seniors and their families and the staff for achieving those Awards um also I attended a meeting this afternoon with the chief of staff for assemblyman
Calabrese regarding the Bergen County School boards Association we are asking assemblyman Calabrese to help us receive some funding so that we can do a pilot for mentoring across Bergen County several districts in Bergen County are already doing mentoring programs and they're having great success for their students pre-k through 12. they're seeing some increases in test scores and grades seeing better attendance so we're hoping that the assemblyman will help us out with some funding but they were very receptive and it was an excellent meeting so I thank them for that and then lastly to my fellow board members I have a list of committees in front of you and I know it's a little bit different than you're used to but I thought we could try streamlining some of the Committees because some obviously go together
so I just looked for some broad terms so the operations committee and I was hoping that Mr capano would share that really encompasses the committee's formerly known as facilities finance and buildings and grounds since that all falls under the umbrella of the operations of the district but I thought for consistency purposes it would be better to have the same group of people really looking at the facilities the financing the buildings and grounds and then for the other committee the umbrella would be education but under education would fall academics Athletics and policy and then probably one of our most important committees would be Safety and Security and I would hope that Mr Russo would be our chair for that um and you would be working with obviously the police department and so forth on the Safety
and Security of the district and Mississippi Brew if you would be chair of the education committee but I thought just for consistency purposes even though the conversations would center around several topics if we just look at the district twofold as operations and education and then the umbrella of everything that we do would be Safety and Security so if you wouldn't mind trying it out this way first operations obviously would work very closely with Mr alfano and education would work very closely with Mrs Calabrese so safety security obviously with the district the superintendent and the police department so if you wouldn't mind trying it out this way I think that you'll find that the Committees go together so well that they really are interrelated and it's hard to break them apart anyway and that concludes my
report um are there any comments regarding committees even though they're newly formed and we really haven't had any meetings yet well in reference to operations Dr Pantheon we you know as you know the building and grounds and Facilities has a lot going on uh with summer projects that are going to get started uh Lou alfano and uh chiro our supervisor of the facilities that have been working closely with land Associates on some massive projects coming down the pike we're also working closely with the Pharaoh in reference to the synagogue property that is going to be adjacent to Borough Hall where we've made a decision to possibly make it a High School annex on uh on the second third of floors and we're working closely with some of our principals and getting recommendations for classrooms and
what this Annex would be compromised of so that it's moving along well and Lou I know we had a pre-construction meeting uh that you sent some meeting minutes out to me and everything else is pretty much getting it in line for uh all these uh facility projects for the summer correct yeah we're like we're lined up pretty well like you said the rtu project we've awarded we awarded the masonry product and we had our pre-construction meeting for the masonry and we're going to have the pre-construction meeting for the rtu project next week so so things are moving along Lou right after uh the Memorial Day weekend if we can just have a quick meeting with the people on the expansion committee for the synagogue with the annex for the high school so we can just
go over Mr iavino's uh he wants to start formalizing some things sure I have no further report thank you okay anyone else have any further comments questions not that I can answer questions on the agenda because Mr romanino isn't here but any comments or concerns all right so I'd like to move the consent agenda Mr alfano okay Dr ponciliano would you like to go through some of the items around if you want to I'm not okay I don't feel comfortable going through anything no problem at all I'll sift through it if anyone has any questions or the public again if you go to uh page two and we got a lot going on here is a fair amount of Personnel in this meeting here in May and also the meetings in June we'll be appointing
uh much of our personnel we have a note here in regard to the board self-evaluation on page two resolution recommended so we're going to send them to schools to accept the board self eval from Mr Roman Gina and then as everyone knows Mr Roman Gino is retiring June 30th and the resolution below that is Mr Hayes it's going to be coming on as the interim superintendent effective July 1st other items on page three if you look on the bottom third one from the bottom Mr janushi at the high school will be the new vice principal effective July 1st 2023 as you know Mr Lombardo is going to be moving to school six in the 23-24 school year and directly below that we have Mr Miller who will continue to be our residency officer 23-24 school
year page four is essentially we're using our after-school money summer school money with our Century 21 Grand and our federal funding and again if there's a point of note or op funding I expires September of 2024. so we'll miss that but hopefully our friends at the FED will kick in some more money moving forward but that our money funding expires September of 2024 and our Century 21 Grant expires August of 2023. very similar in page five again we're talking about programs such as pre-kid that are being funded by 21st century and are and again going through to page seven and same thing and then when you have your your pages eight nine and ten okay those are essentially your co-curricular positions that we appoint in May and everything from the academic decathlons to your choral
directors band anti-bullying specialist ESL coordinators literary magazine rotary clubs honor societies all those are being appointed and approved this evening that pretty much runs through 10. and you've got your yearbook advisors and stuff like that next couple of pages after that is again as you know health insurance waiver incentives for those who wave there their health insurance that essentially what they're doing their 10th Group H uh 12 page 13. it's essentially the business administrator who's that's me in regard to uh appointing me for business administrator and board secretary again I'd like to personally thank the board between confidence in me for another year for 2023 2024. I always like to say I treat a job as a privilege not a right so I want to personally thank the board for all their support throughout the
years so thank you for that um page 14 do you have a packet in your folder for page 14. it's kind of one pages on the bullying incident I believe Dr pateliano Who made that recommendation yes regard to the one Pages thank you Miss pavano Mr Roman genos Administrative Assistant put that together I believe there's approximately six in total so you should show you a little packet with one pages in regard to The Bullying incidence okay on page 15 we're approving the right to know we approved this each and every year Mr danho helps me with the chemical hygiene plan along with the chemical inventory the updates that each and every year in regard to writing nothing and then I submit online to the Department of Education but these are the chemical inventory and the
chemical hygiene plan are produced by Mr danho and his team so that's that resolution and then we have on page 16 is the one we do each and every year I call it the njsia I think I'm dating myself but that's what that is with regard to Athletics and then on the next couple of pages we do this each and every year we do it in October and we do it in may we do in District bus evacuation drills emergency drills both in District and out of District so you see they are essentially all the work that has been done in regard to these drills really headed up by Mr Luciano Sergeant Miller again combination of in-district and attic history obviously these are extremely important especially with our special needs students make sure they're prepared
for any potential instances that may uh that may it may occur and that really runs through page 18. page 19 use of facilities you know lots going on CAD meetings International night PTO plant sale all good stuff football Clinic let me start doing some summer Athletics headed by Mr mandeel in football and the athletic director Mr porfido so summer will be here before you know it and it'll be a fair amount of summer activities Going On Athletics wise in the district 20 is essentially agreements for Professional Services and tuition contracts page 21 again to piggybacks on that a fair amount of our special needs students really have school for almost 11 and a half months a year so there's a lot of summer school and Es we call it esy for our special needs students
so you're seeing some of the summer tuition on page 20 and 21. and also on page 21 is the athletic bills being approved and Pages 21 and 22 two of our payrolls one at the end of April and one of mid-may being approved along with our bill list which was sent to the board a few days back that we send a few days prior each and every month this one is the May 2023 Bill list and our reports that obviously that we closed our month of April our Treasurer report our board secretary report in our transfer report that really runs you through the end of the agenda I don't know if there's any questions Mr savastana from the public I'm actually looking at numbers Pages 10 11 and I believe it carries on to 12.
that saves the board a significant amount of money doesn't it sure because those family could run you you know 28 to 30 000 28 30 000 so we're probably giving someone what 2500 to waive a 28 000 package so that's a significance think of it biannually Dr patiliano runs about five thousand in total but again when you compare it to right thirty thousand it's it's a significant percentage not that uh not that I am aware of so that's true I believe that that would fall under the same as the superintendent evaluation so if you would abstain on the superintendent evaluation you would probably abstain on that I believe we got legal guidance signaling yeah but we we had voted already for uh Mr Hayes uh Dr Hazel's appointment and uh only x amount of uh
board members were able to vote on it yeah we had those votes this evening we're just uh approving his uh uh per diem salary per day and everyone please understand he's working at will uh I believe Dr pantolino was a 30-day notice that he had agreed to so yes within 30 days uh if he decides to leave it so we decide to to move on to someone else or or make a full-time uh a permanent replacement well we can always do that yes it's important to note the distinction between an interim contract and a superintendent contract because I know I've even gotten that question well how many years is he there for he can only be here for a total of two years but the contract doesn't give him more than a 30-day notice so
it's really I mean we hope it's a long-term commitment as far as it takes to the time when we can get a new superintendent but it is not a long-term contract such as you would see for a regular superintendent and we're not paying him uh benefits attention attention or any of that so this is where we are as you know we've been under the Helm of Mr Roman Gino for 16. good great years and it'll be an adjustment for the board and uh you know we'll see how this goes with Dr Hayes he's got some extensive experiences superintendent and uh we'll take it from there thank you both for that any other philosopher questions observations from the board no I'm going to make a motion to approve the May 24 2023 agenda that was Mr
capano as first may I have a second if I make that was Mr Russo okay thank you for that Mr Russo okay Dr pantaliano I'd like to take a vote if I may yes please Mrs Abreu yes uh Mr capano yes Freda was not here Mr Garcia uh missed in the Drew uh yes okay thank you for that that was page 11. correct Mr okay Dr ponteliano yes Mr rain Court yeah Mr Russo yes terabakia yeah that is so moved like the popular yes all right on another note uh Lou I know you you thanked this for your your appointment but but I believe I speak on on behalf of the all the board members we want to thank you for what you put in and what you're on a day-to-day basis we know you're
not a nine to five guy uh you come in extensively early I may be in the building at that time and I can see your car outside and you may spend even in a simple 10 to 12 hour day every day so I commend you for that and we appreciate you always putting uh the taxpayer ahead of uh everybody and uh taking care of the finances because you do a great job with it thank you I appreciate it I've worked with you the last 10 years and it's it's just been a pleasant so thank you for that I appreciate the kind words thank you for that Mr Cabana Dr Plantera okay to have a motion to adjourn yes any comments questions concerns anybody last call yes please okay may I have a motion is there
any public I'm sorry anything from the public Mr Savage I apologize no no worries it may have a second if I may I'll say that's uh Mr Drew okay
