010if you sign both you sign both and you keep a cop okay congratulations thank you mr alfano you can bring yourself up on the days so you get down yeah yeah and then i guess this was like generic yeah this is this is ours there you're all set we can get that uh no this is yours okay yours okay all right sure mike you wanna yeah uh mr alfano before we take uh nominations for this year i'd just like to take a moment to thank mr capano uh for his year as uh president of the board of education joe as always it's a pleasure working with you so on behalf of the board uh the plaque says presented to joseph capano board president 2021-22 cliffside park board of education in appreciation for your dedication and
011service to the cliffside park school district so joe again thank you very much thank you i want to just take a moment to uh congratulate uh lisa freda i've worked with lisa for quite some time and i currently work with lisa also at least you've been in nothing but a great asset to this board and i want to congratulate you uh dr pantaliano you came on the board uh three four years ago and you've been a great addition and uh i want to congratulate you and it's always a pleasure working with you because you have your heart for the kids at closet park and clayton i've met you uh over the last few years you're a smart young energetic uh man and i wish you the best of luck the only advice i can give
012you is uh you know listen to these great people up here they all have a good interest learn and you know work with us together [Music] board uh mrs abreu here mr capano here mrs fredo here mr nadroo dr pantaliano mr russo mr shelley mr tarabakia here okay mr unity is not here okay mr romagino and i would now like to take the time to uh ask for a nomination for uh president i'd like to nominate michael russo so that was uh dr pantaliano i'll second that and that was miss and that was mr shelley yes okay can i see a show of hands okay thank you bobby okay so moved congratulations mr russo good to have you michael i'll be bothering you a lot i'd also like to take uh a nomination for the
013office of vice president i'd like to nominate dr pantaliano that's mr capana may i have a second please i'll second right and that's uh mr bakia okay may i have a show of hands fantastic uh show move congratulations [Applause] okay okay mr roman jean i'd like to open up the reorg now i'll go through it quick i mean it's uh we've got about close to 55 vendors and contractors again essentially there's two components to this meeting tonight there's the reorganization which is essentially we appoint many of our vendors and contractors for the upcoming 22-23 school year and so i just like to go through the document it looks something like this it says footsie park board of education agenda for reorganization meeting okay i'll go we just did the uh the odes and again i
014want to congratulate mr russo and dr pontoliano and the president and vice presidency there's a notice here about standing up notice a line item here for standard operating procedures it's a big large binder that essentially everything suits and that's what we do in the business office and throughout the district that was approved a few months ago by cusack so congratulations to everyone in the business office and really throughout the uh the district there's a blurb here about me being qualified purchasing agent for any uh dollars above forty four thousand that's essentially the bid threshold so we talked about that there's a line item here on page three on the bottom you see atra uh they are a janitorial supply company they essentially came in in april and did a pp inventory in regard to covet
015and make sure we have enough inventory for not only uh the remainder of the year but through the summer and then it will come in the summer to do another inventory analysis for the re the 2223 school year a couple other quick items i want to point out is on page seven you see all our state contracts in our county and state approved cooperatives these are essentially contractors who not we do not need to get quotes or to go out to bid because they've already won state contracts or cooperatives where they've done the bid pre-bid and been awarded these bids for certain items such as infrastructure i.t supplies whatever the case may be these contractors are integral to us running our business because we don't have to go out and solicit quotes and bids because
016they've already kind of won those bids so like i said these are the kind of nuts and bolts of who we use on an ongoing basis to kind of run our business let's see go to page nine on the top you'll see two grant writers there there's our grant writer winning grants have been with us many years and our other grant writer millennium again they're a key card we've gotten many new grants over the last couple years including the one we're working on right now is arp that's the biden money uh they've been integral in helping us hopefully obtain approval and we're still in the uh submission stage in regard to working through the op ramp we hopefully will get a an approval in the next hopefully 30 to 60 days that's the large one
017it's over four million dollars in total um page 10 uh you see the e-rate again they're an integral part of our business they go out again essentially work with us on any telecom large telecom projects or i t projects where uh they do the bidding for us and when we win the bid we pay them three percent of the total award and then they get us anywhere from seventy to eighty percent back on the dollar so if we spend a hundred thousand dollars on a project they get a seventy eighty thousand dollars back after we make payment we get checks via ach in the summer integral part of our business really can't do it without them page 11 united federated you'll see to our inspection and our fire alarms i think on the bottom two
018paragraphs extremely important you see preventive maintenance a company called express air they do the majority of our hvac and our air quality again based on coven and all that's been going on the last two years rich lions express air and his staff have really done a robust job for us keeping us filters preventive maintenance anything to do with ongoing hvac so uh excellent business partner page 13 second from the bottom you see aed servicing we've got about 20 21 units defibrillators throughout the district they are serviced by zoll medical corporation obviously extremely important extreme important part of our business and if you go to page 15 on the top cj vanderbeck services all our boilers inspections does all the cleaning the servicing and really sets us up for the inspection from the state and chub
019and that's essentially how we get insured for all our boilers obviously if you can't heat your buildings everything else doesn't doesn't really matter much uh page 16 middle paragraph you see american fire and safety they inspect and certify all our fire extinguishers in the schools and also in all our buses extremely important part of our business again page 17 in the middle you see interstate and toms they do all our maintenance and repairs on our buses as you know we have 23 or 24 buses they essentially keep our pretty much keep our fleet uh rolling very fair excellent business partner and let's see i think that's pretty much it mr almadino unless anyone has any specific questions in regard to the reorganization uh lou um for the record that steve fogerty represent the board again
020as a attorney yes yes steve's in there all your professional services in there dr patriliano it's your auditors yes uh yeah let's take a look let's see bear with me let's see and you have your auditors and you have yours on page 19. uh 19. thank you so you have your uh auditors you have your architects and engineers our main architect and engineer is lan associates we also use remington we have our main auditor which is wilcox and our main legal council is uh is focusing by mandate we have to advertise all professional services okay which we will do uh after the reorganization that will be all their rates and everything get advertised in the record any other questions in regard to the reorganization platform okay okay i'd like to have a motion to accept
021i'll make a motion that's a mr capano may i have a second please that's a mr shelly okay okay i'd like to take a vote on that if i may mrs abreu yeah mr capano yes uh mrs fredo uh mr nadrew yes dr pantaliano yes mr russo mr shelley yes sterbachia yes and mr university is not here okay mr roman gino so moved we will now close the rio organization component of the meeting and we will open up the public consent agenda and i will turn it over to mr roman gina okay thank you mr fano uh just a couple of items i'd like to point out before we look at the consent the agenda for the regular meeting i do want to take this opportunity to thank the public for their support of our
022budget this past year that's very important for the running of our school district and uh having a past budget makes it a lot easier as far as finances go and continuing to provide our students which is our most important commodity with the materials and the services they need so again i thank the public for coming out and supporting the budget uh just a reminder that we are going through a re-registration which is currently in progress as i mentioned before we are re-registering students in grades currently in grades three six and ten once those grades are finished we're going to move on to three other grade levels we haven't decided yet which three so probably within a month's time we'll be finished with three six and ten and i will let the board know what are
023our next uh grade levels and hopefully by the fall we will have done a re-registration of the entire district so i will keep the board informed this week we are registering pre-k students for september uh parents that might be watching the stream of this meeting if you have a child that turns four prior to october 1st you can register for our half day pre-k program we've also finished registration for kindergarten for september for new students but if there are parents uh that may inquire about registration uh they should contact school number four uh they can make an appointment and it's still obviously not too late to register for kindergarten for september and the requirement uh there is age five by october first i just want to let the board know that in may we have
024a calendar posted online but our students in grades three through nine will be taking the new jersey student learning assessments which are the annual tests uh previously called the park assessment now it's called njsla so our students in grades three to nine we'll be testing also we'll be testing science in grades five eight and eleven so there is a schedule posted to our website uh for parents to look at and uh i'm sure notices will be going home from our schools our graduation right now is set for friday june 24th we will be doing middle school and high school graduation on that day the times i'm still working with mr rifus principal of the middle school mr pinto principal of the high school uh to establish times but probably the middle school obviously late morning
025afternoon high school as we always do six o'clock at night and following graduation as we have for the past number of years we will have project graduation also that night in your agenda today you will see that our calendar for september for the 2022-23 school year i made a minor change we're going to start school on september 8th for students rather than the 7th the reason for that is for professional development that we're going to be providing for our staff and in order to uh have a consultant come in on that day we were only able to schedule someone for september 7. so starting a day late doesn't really make that much of a difference as far as the calendar is concerned it just pushes the day further in june so that calendar will be
026posted to the website uh tomorrow for parents to look at there's a copy in your photo tonight and there is a a resolution to approve that that change in the calendar okay before i look at the consent agenda uh any questions from the public no nothing okay um so any committee reports you may want to give an update on the building and grounds i know that the gym floor is in and uh yeah i know you had a meeting that unfortunately yeah they did the gym gym fall everybody gets a chance take a look at the high school gym floor boy it looks fan it looks fantastic we're finishing up some you know duck work lining the volleyball lines that was all happening today so we're we're in the home stretch our goal is obviously
027we're gonna have substantial completion sometime in may so if it does rain on uh hopefully it doesn't happen on graduation we can have folks go into the gym we also had our 2223 capital projects bid opening on april 26 it was five contracts directionally right now it looks like the five contract fell within our budget constraints the five contracts are now with mr fogerty uh i've requested that mr fogerty hopefully review them and send me some award language by next wednesday and then i will ask the board we may have a special zoom meeting shortly thereafter to award those bids so we can kind of kick start the process start our pre-construction meetings so we can kind of be off and running once school is over in regard to we have two really two roof
028replacement projects with masonry one at the high school one at number six called the elementary side we are renovating the high school administrative offices the hr and secretaries we are replacing uh several high school stair tower doors those are the big security metal doors we are also repairing uh above our cafeteria door that faces the field it's a i call it a lentil project it's some loose masonry that really is a really a safety concern that we're going to be doing also so we have a lot of large projects with tight timelines for this summer so the earlier we can get the bids awarded the project's awarded the earlier we can have a pre-construction meeting and maybe we can start some early demo and kick start the project so we have we have a fighting
029chance to get everything done by the time uh surrounding was a september 8th it's when everybody's back students yeah students are back and i guess the teachers have backed several things of course right so that's pretty much kind of the buildings and grounds update mr alfano can you make a request i would love to see pictures of the gym floor because i don't know if i can get over there sure is there any chance maybe you know even if it's preliminary you can take some pictures and maybe send them out on the instagram account or you know on the website or something because i would love to see the gym floor in with those volleyball lines and i want to thank you because i know that this has been not an easy process yes but
030the fact that we're going to have a gym floor and an air-conditioned gym and you know hopefully 50 years into the future the improvements that were made this year even though it's painful because we've got delayed a lot the fact that it's going to be there and it's going to support so many generations of students to come thank you and great thank you dr patrick what's unique about this is that many other school districts have to go to the tax levy and ask for a referendum or dollars here in cliffside park with the great board our superintendent and yourself and the public were able to do all these projects with capital reserve dollars and being fiscally responsible and that's kudos to this board you know for for doing that and to our professionals that work
031for us so that makes me very very proud when we can do a 1.5 million dollar project that does not impact the taxpayer that's important and to piggyback that on mr capano over the last uh nine years we're about 21 22 million dollars in capital projects that have been solely funded by capital reserve surplus where we didn't have to go out for a referendum and put bonus on the on the taxpayer again this coming summer alone the projects i just mentioned are probably total close to four million dollars that we're going to be engaging in so like i said all the support from the board the public the staff is greatly appreciated kudos to you and mr romancino i appreciate that thank you i'd like to give a report i'm not sure how much i
032can say but we have been having negotiations with the teachers union and from my standpoint it's been going extremely well i want to thank them for their professionalism and all that they're bringing to the table and i want to most certainly thank mr o'gino mr fogerty for representing this board and the students of cookside park so well and i'm very happy to say that i believe that when the contract ends we will have a new one in place or be very close to having everyone in place and i know that that was a goal of this board that we treat our employees fairly and then we have a contract in place for them and i believe that will happen so i want to thank everyone and i want to thank the teachers for their part
033in the negotiations you know i'm excited it's great that come to fruition thank you any other committee reports okay if not i would like to just go through a couple of items in the regular agenda uh page two um as always we are approving um some of our staff members attending uh workshops reimbursing them for registration fees and for travel expenses we do that each month uh usually the list is a lot longer but it's getting better with covid hopefully getting to the point where now people can go out of the district and attend in-person workshops as compared to doing everything remotely or virtually we are also approving angelo alvin who stipend for serving as our title one coordinator for this past school year angelo does a lot of work with our title one teachers
034across the district and the stipend is well deserved carly brighanti who had served with us as a part-time title one teacher at school three is moving into a full-time or has already moved into a full-time kindergarten teacher for the remainder of this year to replace the teacher who recently resigned page three third resolution down we are accepting the resignation of caitlyn burke who was previously appointed as a non-certificated school nurse she has rescinded her appointment anne-marie wagner who is a social worker with our child study team we are approving a unpaid medical leave from april 25th and will return back to school april 26th i wish anne-marie well jackie amaya title one teacher at school number five we're approving her maternity leave which will start in september uh jackie will return on or about january
03517th of 2023 uh below that are celia de phillips teacher at school number four she also works on our after school program maternity leave she will also be leaving beginning of september and will also return somewhere around january 18 2023 i wish both of them good luck page four we are approving uh as we do every year our summer school teachers uh this year and i'll talk more about this at our next meeting but summer school will begin on june 27th a four-week program ends july 22nd in addition to our summer school program which we are running for uh students in grades pre-k through 12 actually we will be hosting some students from fairview who will be coming to our middle school program they pay a small tuition our students attend our summer school program
036for a registration fee of twenty dollars and those students are recommended so uh the first group of teachers that you see on the list are working in our summer school program across all of our schools uh the second group of teachers i'm sorry the second group of individuals are our teacher aides who will be assisting in our special ed classes and in some of our kindergarten classes uh top of page five we will also be running our summer enrichment program in fact in your brochure and the new bourgeois in your folder is a brochure that just outlines some of our summer school summer enrichment programs this year things like coding science experiments steam gifted and talented engineering some cooking classes so we always get a good turnout of students that begins august 1st and it
037runs through august 22nd uh parents will be getting that brochure next week and they can sign up for those programs uh so at the top of page five we are approving uh a list of teachers who will be teaching in that summer enrichment program i thank that i thank them for their participation barbara vitale will be uh teaching art part-time in our summer school uh linda ludwikowski will be our summer school director uh and in charge of our 21st century after school program tom mandeel who is our football coach as tom does every year will be running a summer weightlifting program so we do have a number of summer programs going on uh beginning june 27th and like i had mentioned i'll talk more about those programs with the board at our main meeting uh
038page six uh chiro spinella is going to be once again our district-wide integrated pest management coordinator which is a uh which is mandated by the state so we are approving him tonight uh on page seven uh second resolution down we are notifying by letter as mandated by the state by may 15 all non-tenure teachers of their renewal for september i should say they're non-renewal for september and again that's a formality and in most cases 99.9 of those teachers who we give a non-renewal to we then reappoint in june at our june meeting uh people that have been on the board know that we go through this process each year we are adding a half day to our um june 7th tuesday june 7th will be a half day that was not originally on the calendar
039that's the primary day so we are letting students out of school at one o'clock so people that do come to vote there will not be kids in school our staff will remain that day for a staff and service and we do that every year but this year it was left off the calendar so i'm adding it to the agenda uh we do we did have two hiv cases that were investigated this month and as per state law we are including them on our agenda and on page eight we have um just uh a list of all of our summer programs that we'll be running this year the county uh would likes us to approve those programs and we send the county a list of all the programs that are running over the summer so on
040page eight it's outlined what we're actually doing and the dates uh under policies and procedures we are submitting our comprehensive equity plan it actually was a three-year plan that was that was submitted three years ago but as per law each year we just uh signed a statement of assurance that goes to our county superintendent so again page 9 is just a formality and 10 are buildings and grounds requests by staff members pto pta for use of buildings and that's on page 10. and mr alfano i don't know if you have anything in finance that you haven't spoken about a couple of quick items to roman gina again i want to reiterate thanking everyone all the constituents board members public staff getting the budget passed greatly appreciated in may at the work session i'll be engaging
041the board and committee members on really two two major items it's the first iteration of financial positioning that's for 2122 how we look in regard to our surplus as the year comes to a close and how we want to allocate that surplus and the other item would be our first iteration of the summer facilities projects we spoke about the five major capital projects but there's many other smaller projects that i will engage the board and the committee in regard to updates of what's going to be happening uh in the summer in regard to facilities project that's pretty much it mr roman i do want to mention that on may 18th we do have a work session that night we are going to have mrs calabrese mr profito who's our supervisor uh his athletic director but
042he's also overseeing our physical health curriculum and a consultant will be here to talk to the board about the new health standards that are being mandated for september you may have read some articles in the bergen record about other districts having meetings for the public we will be planning on doing that but prior to that i've invited mrs calabrese consultant and mr profito to talk to the board at our work session about some of the mandates that are coming um that are going to be challenges for us come september with the new health and phys ed curriculum and then on may 25th we have our regular uh public meeting okay any comments questions from the public on our consent agenda yes i think i well i don't um did they go last summer or was
043it finishing i'll find out i'm sure the answer to that is going to be yes i think it would benefit everybody but maybe we could nail that down okay i will uh i'll have dave perfido speak to the a.d in richfield yeah and we'll confirm that thank you okay anyone else on the consent agenda motion to accept i don't make a motion all right mr the drill may i have a second if i may please oh second is that mr shelley yes okay i'd like to take a vote if i may uh this is a brew yes mr capana yes but i'm going to stay on page four on uh summer school appointment of marie papano as a nurse so that's a page four yeah thank you mr capana maria capano nurse correct okay mrs
044freda yes mr nadrew yes uh dr pompliano yes mr russo yes mr shelley yes tara bacha yes okay so move mr roman gina okay so um motion to close i'll make a motion it's mr cabana i may i just have a second if i may i'll say
