001yes okay Welcome to our meeting please stand for the pl Allegiance States i' like to read a quick statement if I may the New Jersey open public meetings law was enacted to ensure the rights of the public to have advanced notice of and to attend the meeting of public bodies at which any business affecting their interest is discussed or acted upon in accordance with the provision of this act the clide Park Board of Ed has CED notice of this meeting to be published by having the daytime in place thereof posted in the offices of the B clerk B Library b Rec Department the office of the board of head and the offices of schools numbers three four 5 6 and the high school on August 12 2020 and notice 4 is the Record 12 2020
002this is an official meeting I like to take the rooll if I may Mr de Bru here Mr capano here Mr Fredo here Gara here pontano Mr rcor Mr Russo Mr Shelly here Teddy here romanino okay again thanks uh everyone for attending our meeting tonight for those community members who are uh watching the stream we welcome you also uh just a couple of items I'd like to go over before we look at the consent agenda uh today around 11 o'clock this morning uh I sent out a swift reach to all uh staff parents and students I'd like to just um read that Swift reach that I sent out if there are parents who are listening that didn't uh receive that message but this morning I did send a message out notifying all parents and students
003that beginning tomorrow Thursday November 19th all Cliff side park schools move will move to all remote learning for all students students will follow their regular schedules Although our schools continue to remain safe with a very low rate of positive cases the rise of covid cases in our community and in many of the homes of our staff have led me to this decision which I feel is in the best interest of our school Community all School offices will remain staffed and open all staff and students will return to our school schedule beginning Monday November 30th please be assured that the district will monitor the current covid situation and we'll make adjustments to our schedule if necessary that will be in the best interest of our staff and students so beginning tomorrow uh as we just mentioned
004uh all students will follow their regular schedule and they will be all remote uh we will hopefully reopen again on Monday November 30th after the Thanksgiving weekend just a reminder two parents um we have our grab and go lunch pickups for all remote students every Wednesday from 4 to 6: pm at school number three uh because we are going all remote tomorrow we are going to have an extra grab and go pickup this Friday uh November 20th at school number three between the hours of 4 and six any student any student can pick up uh a 7-Day supply of breakfast and lunches uh on Friday and then after Friday it'll continue as it's been every Wednesday four to six School number three uh as in the summer uh in the beginning our turnout uh was
005not as good as we had hoped it would be But as time goes on we're finding that more and more parents are getting the message and more and more parents are taking advantage of um the grab and go um breakfast and lunch um giveaways uh so I thank pomptonian I thank Mr Alano working with uh cat Scot who's our cafeteria director for continuing to provide uh these breakfast and these lunches to our our students and uh and our parents October 27th few weeks ago we had our uh back to school nights our parent visitation uh they're still posted to the website so if you did not have an opportunity to visit your child's classroom uh you can go to our website you can click on parent visitation go to your school and go to your
006child's classroom and you'll be able to see a video uh PowerPoint uh from your child's teacher explaining their uh classroom procedures rules and regulations and other information that may be important uh I emailed the um board members last week our high school and middle school newspaper uh is available online uh for our parent it's also posted to our website so if you would like to read the most uh upto-date copy of our high school Courier and our Middle School newspaper please visit our our website for that also just posted to our website recently is our the next version of our CPTV uh if you go to our website I believe it's on the leand side you'll see a number of um videos that our students from the high school make it's called Cliffside Park TV
007and they really do a great job with a lot of uh current information uh school information Community Information and just recently we posted the um the most re re most recent uh version of the of that most recent episode I should say uh tonight in the agenda you'll see we have a change in our calendar uh as I mentioned last week at our work session are are parent conferences that are normally scheduled for December 1st 2 and 3D uh because of covid we have rescheduled our parent conferences for grades prek through five to Tuesday December 8th so if your school principal or your child's teacher has not notified you yet uh they will be notifying you shortly to um schedule an appointment during the school day when they will be able to meet with you
008virtually and discuss your child's progress so that's going to be on Tuesday December 8th uh By Appointment you you'll have the opportunity to as you would in person talk to your child's teacher that will be for grades prek through five if there are parents who have children in grades 6 through 12 uh at any time you can call the building principal or your trial's guidance counter to make an appointment if you would like to discuss your trial's uh progress so far this year and the last thing I just want to mention are winter sports uh tomorrow we're supposed to be getting an update on the winter sports season uh as to whether or not they're going to push it forward to a later date uh whether or not they're going to cancel any sports for
009the winter season you know it's going to be a challenge because they're Indoor Sports uh so tomorrow we should have more information either from the governor's office or the Department of Education or the State athletic association uh once we receive that information as before our athletic director Mr poro will summarize uh that information I'll get it out to the staff and then we will be able to uh discuss that at a further date uh in tonight's agenda you will notice there is a resolution appointing uh winter sport coaches uh based on the fact that we do have a winter season so when I go through the agenda um I will make a point of mentioning that if you have any questions I I can answer those at that time okay I'll stop here for a
010minute does anybody have any questions on anything that I've talked about so far or just anything in general okay uh if not then I'd like to take a minute to look at the consent agenda Mike just want to touch on uh oh I'm sorry I'll do uh I'll do uh board committee report yeahum just it's okay just excuse me I just want to touch on committee uh reports for building and grounds and a little bit with Finance with building and grounds uh the boilers at number three and five school have been complete with any major project like that you have to get the all the Kinks out uh we have some steam trap issues at number five school that we're uh working with Liberty mechanical and uh it looks like uh they can be addressed
011uh within a credit that we have uh uh with the project and it it won't cost additional dollars but this the engineers are still doing an assessment uh we have two or three classrooms that are are not getting heat uh getting a slow amount of heat and it's most likely the steam traps uh in designing the project uh we knew that we were going to encounter that uh but the boilers are up and running and uh they're coming to a close now we just have to address uh some of these steam trap issues at number five school that are minimal as you know uh we're starting to forecast for uh some capit improvement projects going into uh 20 uh 21 and uh we are looking at the an assessment of the high school gym floor
012uh and the hbac Mechanicals there and the windows uh we did have land Associates come in and do an assessment uh we did meet with them uh on uh believe it was Monday or Tuesday I don't recall uh I believe yesterday we met with them Tuesday right and uh we're going to engage them to come back with a proposal with a a design to uh redo the high school uh floor uh put in a a brand new hbac climate control system put in uh Windows uh that gym uh has not been upgraded since its construction in 1969 so a lot of excitement uh with this project we did also look at the possibility of exploring to put an elevator into uh that section of the high school uh it's not cost prohibitive at this time
013but we are looking at uh possibly some uh Community Development grants and engaging the burrow and and working together uh to see if we can obtain some uh grants more than that that's pretty much it once the assessment's completed uh we'll share all the specs and everything as we go along uh and that's pretty much it for my report any other committee reports okay if not uh I will then look at the consent agenda um on page two I believe uh in your packet tonight is a a hard copy of the agenda that was emailed to you uh page two the uh first resolution is we're approving some professional development that some of our staff members uh are doing virtually uh in the upcoming uh days I believe some have already um passed but for
014the most part the majority of them are uh future dates that we are approving um we're appointing Dominica Russo as a high school Italian teacher ba step one Dominica has been with us as an interim sub and uh the state finally after a couple of weeks um sent out her certification so now we are officially appointing Dominica um as a high school Italian teacher VA step one to to begin on page three uh second resolution uh Ahad or Epi Rodriguez uh we are going to um transfer epie from bus driver to bus Aid effective November 16th 20220 at his current salary uh third resolution down we are appointing uh Tamir weiner as a substitute school psychologist at a per DM rate of 125 a day pending her certification once she becomes certified from the state
015which is uh pending as we speak uh we will appoint her like we do with Dominica as a full-time school psychologist assigned to the high school she will begin uh January 4th after we return from the break uh we we are res sending uh a termination of employee number 5721 um whose name is on file with the Board of Ed or my office uh resolution recommended to accept the resignation of James fund full-time bus driver effective October 30th 2020 I believe James relocated and he's accepted a position in another District he has been with us for a number year number of years as a driver uh two resolutions down from that we also have the resignation of Atilla Bali who was a bus driver with us for a number year of years he's applying for
016disability retirement with the Division of Pensions so we wish both James and aella uh best of luck uh Norma Reyes uh we're accepting her resignation as school psychologist uh she has been assigned to the or was assigned to the high school effective January 1st 2021 move over to page four first resolution Anita frankovic who's been out on a medical leave uh is now applying for an unpaid leave of absence uh which is effective or was effective November 9th uh through January 3rd and we anticipate a need of returning um January 4th 2021 after the winter recess um also resolution to accept an unpaid leave from high school teacher Robert venier from January 4th through January 8th with a return on January 11th 2021 uh Kristen philipone who's a special ed teacher at school number three
017uh we're accepting a or approving an unpaid leave request uh for child care that she's requesting from January 4th through June 30th 2021 uh we anticipate Kristen's return with us in September of 2021 she's currently a special ed teacher in school number three uh resolution to readjust the salary of uh Donna Dorset who's retiring effective December 31st right now Donna's on a paid medical leave and uh we did not at the time uh give her credit for the sixth class as contract as a special education teacher and to skip over to uh page five page five is a resolution um that we had similar to flor Sports and now refers to winter sports and really the basis of the resolution is that if appointments are rescinded um the coaches shall be paid appr rated amount
018of their studs so the recent could have to do with the fact that the season either never begins or begins and because of a direct order from the governor uh we have to close schools uh or if the district itself makes a decision there's that possibility so the coaches that follow on page seven um are the page the coaches that we are uh recommending appointment for for our winter season and that would include both High School sports and Middle School sports at this point and again if anything uh has to do with uh the cancellation of sports if it has to do with uh covid or not enough participation to run a particular program then as for the resolution we would resend the those appointments uh each year we have health insurance waivers so the
019people on page seven at the bottom and the top of page eight and the bottom of page eight are Insurance waivers uh that we Grant to our employees that's a big savings for the Board of Education and at the bottom of page eight uh we are also approving non-cash wavers for staff members who uh may have a spouse or a partner uh that received the same state health benefits so those are um as per attracted in state C page 10 Mr sh yes because page uh 10 the resolution on page 10 has to do with Mr romanino himself uh as board president I'll read that it has to do with Mr Roman Gino's Uh current contract which uh began on July 1st 2017 and would expire on July 1st 2021 uh we are resending that
020after agreement and revising it uh with this resolution to begin retroactively on July 1st of this past year 2020 and it will expire on July 1st 2023 and uh this resolution has to do with our approving that adjustment to his contract tonight thank you uh just to continue on page 12 uh we are uh approving uh two or remote half days um the day before Thanksgiving which is next Wednesday so students will be all remote but it will be a half day and the day before uh our winter break December 23rd will also be an all remote half day for students um okay and then that's what's indicated uh on your calendar I will post an update to the calendar tomorrow to our website uh we also have a resolution which I spoke about earlier
021in the evening that uh there will not be parent conferences on December 1st 2 3rd rather we will have virtual parent conferences By Appointment uh for grades prek through five uh on December 8th Tuesday and again if parents are listening in tonight uh if your school hasn't already contacted you they will be uh with appointments uh Mr you have anything Finance couple of quick gu you know on pages 18 and 19 you'll see resolutions for two call Lodge electricity suppliers energy contract ran out for a large electric electricity suppliers help of our consultant went out to bid and we're appointing mp2 and Titan electricity suppliers we do a course benefit compared that the current PCG rates and we get some significant incremental savings over time this will be a threeyear agreement with these two entities
022and uh it's worked very well over the past we've engaged in our in multiple sessions on gas and electric as they as the contracts expire and we compare to public service and we engage with new suppliers as our old the contracts expire also we are uh just about completing our 1920 audit uh we are starting our 2021 audit and we are engaging in our uh 2122 uh starting our 2122 budget process Mr capano mentioned some of the capital projects we are engaging in the one specifically of the high school gym upgrade and we will continue to update upate the board and the public in regard to uh the movement in regard to uh moving those projects to hopefully uh roll out in the summer of 2021 that's pretty much it okay before I call for
