001good evening i'd like to welcome everyone to our our board meeting tonight which is a work session i'd like to first begin by standing for the pledge of allegiance i pledge allegiance to the flag the united states of america and to the republic for which it stands one nation under god indivisible with liberty and justice i just have to take the role if i may uh mrs abreu capano here this is fredo here mr garcia dr pantaliano mr raincourt mr russo here mr shelley here and teddy okay um i'd like to thank everyone for attending to our meeting tonight i'll let uh dr pentaliano to the row how are you dr pantariano okay good uh just a couple of quick items uh before we look at the consent agenda i do want to make mention
002that in your folder tonight uh not in your folder but i emailed you yesterday a copy of the uh njsia athletic rules for the winter season it's something that i would like you to look over and we could talk about our participation i don't know if you saw it on the news yesterday but the governor is allowing winter sports to take place we have wrestling indoor track and basketball both boys and girls so both high school and middle school sports so it's something that we have time to discuss collectively as a board as to whether we want to move forward with those recommendations the season begins december 2nd or 3rd so we do have time to make a decision as you know uh back in august we did appoint coaches for the fall season but
003the fall season only uh so we don't have any coaches appointed for winter sports yet or spin spring sports so uh we will have further discussion uh regarding these sports what i'm waiting for is our athletic develop director dave perfito is reading through the guidelines and he's going to summarize it for us and once we get a copy of that summary i'll share with the board and then we discus can discuss things uh regarding how many students can participate in one location at a time can we have spectators uh what protocol we have to go through which would be the same as outdoor sports with temperature taking and so on and so forth so once uh mr porfido summarizes that for us i think we'll have some more information and we can move forward with
004the decision uh i do want to mention that we received uh documentation from our attorney fogarty and hara regarding our board meetings so beginning next wednesday october 21st the public can attend our meeting we will decide whether or not we will continue to stream the meetings but the public uh if you're watching tonight and we will publicize it on our website that with limited um participation based on the number of um occupants we can have in in a room the public can attend we will have a security guard downstairs so when the public does come in uh he will limit the amount of people coming up he will also take their temperature make sure they have a mask and also make sure at the end of the meeting that they are promptly escorted out of
005the building so i'm just working on the details as far as that's concerned uh that's all i really have at this time i'll have my superintendent's report at our open public board meeting next week but just quickly briefly um schools are running well uh teachers are doing a great job uh our school nurses are doing a great job uh as far as determining whether or not um students should be sent home if they have a symptom so i really feel uh that our schools are safe that we're moving forward in the right direction and hopefully it'll continue that way uh we haven't received any other further direction from the state as far as any of the guidelines are concerned everything that was sent to us in july uh regarding the opening of score remains in
006effect i'll stop at this point before i look at the consent agenda any questions from the board at this point no just just to emphasize that tomorrow we have uh the facilities committee in conjunction with the louis the business administrator we have a virtual meeting with uh our boiler uh installer uh i think it's probably one of our last meetings i know they uh started up uh the boilers uh on columbus day when the schools were closed as with any projects the little hiccups here and there they're fine-tuning them we'll get more information tomorrow so if the facility committee is available but who did send them an email please assignment i did have the opportunity to just go quickly through number four school uh i know uh dr pence leonardo did indicate at the last
007meeting that the schools were impeccable and uh i just have to repeat that again and school's in phenomenal shape and kudos to the administration from the principals to the custodians to everybody and kudos to mike andrew here so that's pretty much it um are there any other commit okay so we publicized it we've made announcements and so far we have 12 kids that signed up uh the heat cup there is that in the middle school the kids get out at 1 15 so the majority of them go home and the teachers are really not free until three o'clock so what i did is i worked something out with one of our staff members to give up his lunch and just flip-flop his lunch and he's willing to work with the students at 1 15. mr
008walker went around to every class and tried to promote it for the most part the interest lies in soccer but he's going to do other things with them and i just i'm hoping that once those 12 students start and other kids hear about it maybe we'll get more participation but right now we do have uh we're going to start this week yeah and now that they uh well we'll talk about the winter sports at a later time but we will do this you know for the time being no problem anyone else okay if we looked at the uh consent agenda uh mr founder you um do you want to make mention of anything with the uh resolution regarding uh doug byrne yes mr byrne affiliated with mancinelli and conti is now going to be moving
009to a fund called burn route effective uh immediately and that's essentially what this resolution is about and once we uh approve the resolution then we will then send it the executed resolution to mr byrne and mr burn will then send it to the county and uh mr alfano just for the record um douglas byrne is just going to be handling any bidding documents for construction projects etc our main attorney is the steve fober that is the correct statement just want to make sure about that and he'll continue to just do uh construction dating projects especially thank you okay uh also in the consent agenda is the first reading of policies and the regulations that we are mandated to uh revise in your packet tonight is something called the policy alert and basically what it does
010is it just summarizes those changes so we're not approving the policies tonight we're just having a first reading there are there's a new policy there's new guidelines there's a policy called gifted and talented students that just refers to the fact that the state is now mandating that a school district has to complete a report annually we've already filed ours with this with the state it was due september 30th and that policy is just referring to that uh there's some policies that have to do with finance that mr alfano has already reviewed and again a lot of them are just minor tweaks to the policies that we've already had uh in place uh so you can review the policy alerts if you have any questions about anything you can either email me during the week or
