0015.now okay I'd like to welcome everyone to our board meeting tonight at this time I would like to just stand for the like to read one quick statement if I may mr. Lombino then I'll take the roll the New Jersey open public meeting law was enacted to ensure the rights of the public to have advanced notice of and to attend the meeting of public bodies to any business affecting their interest is discussed or acted upon in accordance with the provision of this act the Cliffside Park Board of Ed has caused notice of this meeting to be published by having the date time and place thereof posted in the offices of the borough clerk or a library the borough rec department the office of the Board of Ed and the offices of school numbers three four
002five six and the high school January 13 2020 and notice of afforded to the reporters at the record January 13 2020 this is an official meeting I'll take the attendance now mr. román Gina okay mrs. Abreu here mr. Capano here mrs. Fredo yeah Mr Carr sigue dr. Pantoliano mr. ring court mr. Russo mr. Shelley here Teddy here okay mr. román Gina okay thank you very much just a couple of items I'd like to go over before we look at the consent agenda I just would like to make mention that you know since we were out of school since March we've been giving a grab-and-go lunch at school number three for our free and reduced students and we've gotten permission and we're going to be partnering with the borough to continue that through the end of
003August so we will be promoting it to our parents and students who have been receiving bad light and I think I mentioned last meeting about 1100 lunches per day and fortunately we'll be able to continue that through the summer Mostafa know I don't know if there's anything you want to add to that that's pretty much as mr. Roma Jeana the grab-and-go is going to your points been extended through August 28th and that will continue at number three school and we will be also serving reck students at number six school between the dates of July 7th and July 31st okay and I guess there'll be the the borough will advertise such correct okay I did want to mention I had emailed the board that you know this past April we were supposed to have seven students
004that were traveling to Eastern Europe you know that each year many of our students travel to different countries they've been to Italy they've been to Spain London so on and so forth and with Cova 19 we rescheduled it for August because at the time the company that we were contracted with was not giving refunds but since then because I guess what's continuing to go on the company has agreed to give refunds so all of the students who were going to be going in August that trip is canceled obviously because of the situation but all of the students if they weren't refunds can either get a full refund for the trip or they can receive a credit if they want to use Italy at a later date so that's good news as you know last Wednesday
005June 17th school officially ended for our students this coming Monday June 29th we're going to start our virtual summer school and we're going to be working with students pre-k through Grade eight basically pre-k through six is a remediation program grade seven and eight our middle school program offers students who need the credits in math English and possible some electives and we also run a high school program a grad point program which is a computer assisted Pro for students who are may have failed the course or in need of additional credit so all of the programs that we usually run in person we will be running live this summer to accommodate both our parents and our students so that begins on June 29th and ends July 24th and I'll keep the board apprised of how about
006how that program is running we're also running a summer enrichment program virtually each summer in August we've run programs robotics la marine life and we decided to offer those programs again virtually this week where we're in the process of registering students for that program and apprising lis I didn't think the registration would be as good as it is but it's been very active this week so it looks like all of the classes that we're going to be offering will be offered because we will have enough students in each class a copy of that brochure for parents that might be listening is online and you can still register by contacting school number six but that program will one will run a week in July in two weeks in August just as a reminder our virtual graduations
007this Monday night June 29th we will be running the middle school graduation and then on June 30th we'll be running our high school graduation on July 8th and 9th we're in the process of planning a live celebration and we will get information we'll be going out to the parents of 8th graders and of seniors probably this week at the beginning of next week from mr. Pinto and mr. bottner we will be following all the guidelines from the state as far as the number of people they can attend an outdoor program I believe right now it's 250 but after July 6th I believe it's going to go up to 500 as per the governor and students and parents who will be taking part will be socially distancing and wearing asks though we are planning the program
008for those two dates July 8th and 9th just a reminder if any of the parents that might be listening are we still are registering for pre-k for September you can contact my office and the registration will be online or virtually and same is true for kindergarten parents who are new to the district if you had a child that was in our pre-k program they're automatically registered but if you are new to Cliffside Park and you are registering a student for kindergarten you can contact my office and one of the secretaries will register you and take care of all the paperwork that's needed so I met today with Dave Profeta our athletic director and some coaches and our athletic trainer there have been some guidelines they call it stage one that have gone out for fall
009sports those guidelines are in effect from July 13th until July 26th when a second phase will come out right now the fit the first phase is pretty intensive in terms of taking temperatures no contact the only activity is one coach 210 students they have to socially distance they can work out nothing where it's really being involved with picking a soccer ball or a volleyball over the net or a football where there's throwing the ball around it's nothing like that it's just a coach working with a group of 10 kids and we still have to register all of our students in the sense of they have to get medical the medical forms now from the state are much more intensive in terms of pre pre condition students might have some students still physicals so was decided
010today that at this point really to take part in phase the coaches and Dave Pro Phaedo and even myself feel at this point that's really not worth even doing that because there's so much preparation that's going to go into phase one we're not even sure if we're going to be ready for it yet we as a as a board or you as a board we have not appointed coaches yet for the full season we still haven't heard from the governor or from the Athletic Association what sports if any or if all are going to be held in the fall so because of all these things we felt that we would use this time now to arrange for physicals for students have students fill out the medical forms have parents sign off on the medical forms
011and just in general get the kids ready then on July 13th when phase two comes out from the Athletic Association we can get together as a group look at what the guidelines are and then at that point come up with a plan that we can submit to the board for approval and we can approve that on July 22nd and then if approved we can then move forward with the second stage which is on July 26th so that's really where we're at right now a lot of districts are doing the same it's just very difficult at this point not having contact with the students and the athletes trying to get everything together for July 13th and there also is not that much to do there's also considerations about students not being allowed in the building so
012there's no bathroom system please we'd have to look into how we're going to go about that if students are on the field they really can't go into the building to cool off if it's a hot day or one of the things that we might look into some kind of tent that we could put on the field temporarily if we move forward where the students can at least vote come out of the Sun into the shade so these are the kinds of things that Dave poor feet are looking into and when we get all this information together and come up with a plan then we'll present it to the board and ask the board for their input on these things in the meantime as I get information from the state that's related to athletics I'll share
013with with the board we have a board committee athletic committee I know I forwarded one of the emails to dr. Bentley on Oh earlier in the week just to look over and I'll keep doing that but until we actually put something together and can share it we'll just kind of kind of wait on and see what the next stage actually looks like in terms of whether there could be contact no contact what sports and so on and so forth you know for example volleyball is an indoor sport we can do it outside but it's an indoor sport and at this time they're not allowed in the building the other drawback is that the Burrow at this time I think they're going to be opening up number six school of July 2nd or July 6th I
014should say and they're having a rec program so I don't know how much use were really going to be able to get out of school 6 and the borough is always very accommodating but that's another reason well why wait until July 26 when that field will also become available and we could spread out kids further might be a better idea so that's really where we are with the sports right now and I'll keep everyone informed opening of school again the governor was supposed to give guidelines today they didn't come through today so hopefully by Friday we'll get some guidelines about what September might look like if there are options if there guidelines and I'm sure the one of the things they're going to ask a district to do is put a plan together and get
015it approved as I mentioned last meeting I have a district-wide Committee and will look at those guidelines come up with some ideas share them with the board get the board's input on that and then also inform parents of what September might look like I stop here for a minute does anyone have any questions about anything that I spoke about okay before I look at the consent agenda are there any committee reports just in reference to finance the Finance Committee met with mister Alfano and mr. Roman Gino we went over some potential budget cuts that might come from some allocated the dollars that the governor might have to take away because of kovat 19 Luis put a spreadsheet together and reassured us that we should be okay we might have to cut back on some services
016and scale back on that we're doing I can talk if call if you want me that you want to go into building and ground so you want me to talk about it all right building in grounds as you know we had a building and grounds committee a meeting last week also the facilities but a lot of capital improvements as you know we're undertaking two major boiler replacements at 3 & 5 school classroom floors are being replaced like every year we're fortunate enough where Lou gets creative and puts X amount of dollars a way to make these improvements that don't affect the taxpayer and also we're having some bathrooms replaced under our bathroom replacement guideline we've been doing the last a few years the buildings are really great I was able to walk through a number
017six school with my mask on and everything and they're just cleaning and scrubbing and preparing and waiting for guidance but we're in pretty good shape in that aspect I know we did meet under Personnel Committee that Mike had sent some emails out there was one teacher that's being hired as a replacement Mike can elaborate on that everything else has been quiet that's pretty much it for my committee reports okay thanks mr. Capano anyone else well not so much a committee report as the fact that tonight will be as a board voting to approve the agreement that we've reached between the CPE a in the district it was a long time coming it was a lot of work I want to recognize in particular the late fall Kelleher who was our main personal main representative on
018the board side it is not an easy thing to do at any time as a teacher I was on the other side three different times and I know from that side it is not an easy task but we've reached a four-year agreement two years retro in two years going forward so I'd like to thank everyone involved on both sides for helping to reach this agreement okay Thank You mr. Chappell anyone else okay so at this time what I'd like to do is look at the consent agenda there's a lot in the agenda because June is usually the month when we reappoint staff for September so as you may see and we have a copy of the agenda posted online for the public but I'm just going to point out a couple of items in the
019agenda that I think are worthy of just of just mentioning there's a resolution to accept my evaluation for the 2019 20 school year as per state guidelines were approving that tonight we're also proving my contract mr. feyo's contract director of special services mrs. Rousseau's contract which were agreed upon last year for the following school year I do want to make mention Katarina Waldron I was just notified today who's been a very effective middle school teacher for us certified in special ed science math resigned today to take a position in another school district so I did send out a posting for that position today this year she would have been teaching special ed in in our middle school I wish our the best Allyson Connor who's been an aide with us for a number of year
020years and she also filled in for the last couple of months as a part-time secretary in school number three has resigned to accept the position elsewhere teacher aide Angelus steak house has been with us a number of years is retiring julie busan ik who's been a cafeteria worker working with us for a number of years is also retired so i wish all of those people the their best as they move on to transfers jamie's figlio does who is a high school law teacher is being transferred back to the middle school where she had been teaching for a number of years in the past and barber vitally is being transferred from the middle school to the high school as an art teacher we are appointing three additional virtual summer school teachers because of the number of
021students who were recommended Yahaira Canales stephanie rodriguez and Liz Bautista who be doing ESL they're coming on they will be teaching summer school beginning on Monday Katherine Buccola who's a speech teacher will be doing speech with us this summer she's replacing Lubell Rivera who decided not to take the position the last resolution on page three are the staff members who we rescinded they're working this summer because of going virtual and as I had mentioned before we originally appointed everyone not knowing what this summer would look like but as a result of virtual there will be some areas where we're not offering programs such as phys ed and are and we're rescinding those the resolution for those people to work during the summer we are appointing two additional aides for the summer that'll be working with
022our special ed students because of enrollment Luisa Amaya and Wanda parent that's new to the agenda that was not on when you receive the agenda on Friday and just to mention also Stephanie Rodriguez who's working this summer was an addition a late addition to the and today due to class size at the bottom of page four we have a number of staff members and outside volunteers will be volunteering in girls soccer boys soccer and football all have been fingerprinted and they'll be working with us for the fall season has volunteer coaches that's at the bottom of page four so starting on page five and running through page just bear with me a second page 19 so 5 through 19 we are as we teach here appointing all of our staff our teacher aides our vice
023principals principals supervisors teacher aides bus aides for September and we are stating their salaries as per contract for September 2020 and that's what the information is from 5 through 19 if we jump over to page 23 I emailed you this a little bit earlier just approving the board self evaluation for the 2019 20 school year we're doing that officially well also approving the New Jersey Department of Education school self-assessment for determining grades under the Bill of Rights so that's something that each year the district does a self-assessment of how they've done with their HIV program now that data is already posted to our website on the right hand side in a little rectangle where I have my information and the Board of Education I also mailed you a copy early of what those results look
024like and as we do each year we do very very well on that I think all of our HIV coordinators our district coordinator ray and Rene up does a really great job in terms of addressing all of cases we're also agreeing for the 2020 21 school year as we do each year we bought into a Jewish family service for after-school program so hopefully we will have a live after-school program this September but again it depends upon what the governor's recommendations are what guidelines are mr. sorry everything in defiance a couple of things mr. román do you know thanks to mr. Capanna for the update of our meetings last week with buildings and grounds and the Finance Committee piggybacking on Finance we're working on closing the 1920 school year opening the 2021 school year and starting
025the prep for our 1920 audit some of the resolutions in the back of the agenda one for the open bid threshold that's been increased from 40,000 to 44,000 we have an unused cap capital reserve resolution that's capital money that was not used that we can roll over and use for future years and we also have a right to know resolution that mr. Dano produced two documents the chemical inventory and the chemical hygiene report that needs to go through the state and the county that's pretty much it on the finance side mr. román Jeana I do have one it's not a question from the public it's a statement it just says congratulations to the facade part team was successfully completing another school year so that's a comment from someone who was currently watching the stream of
