society now where coaches coach for two years three years four years and and and and they've had enough so there Decades of experience uh with these three coaches that we are going to um you know bring up today first up is coach cavas he's our boys basketball team you receiv this 100 [Applause] win we're hoping he's building on that right now we're playing Bergen te senior night it was pretty close when I left so we're hoping he racks up another win but um he's another uh coach C alumni of CLI High School uh coached by Mr jar who's taken all the credit for the 100 wins not for the losses but we'll let we'll let him go for that so we're very proud of uh coach cus and he sorry that he couldn't be here
all right next up is one of the most successful coaches in Clifton history um he's very very well known throughout the state in boys soccer and girls soccer uh started out with girls soccer here and we brought him over to boys probably a little over 10 years ago proved to be a good move uh wins a lot you know 300 wins is is is no easy task when you're playing group four soccer when you're playing the County Soccer brought home several County championships in his time here a few years ago was number one team in the state one group four uh it was a really exciting run every year we're in the mix the last five maybe six years uh we start well we finished in the top 20 the one year we didn't start

that we've had a full uh girls team and this was something that you know Dan and actually his wife uh Susanna is a is an assistant coach really put a lot of time and effort into it um he's the one that that learned that the middle schools two years ago had about a dozen girls who were interested so we got up front of it last year hired an assistant coach for girls had three girls um they just kept pushing it and pushing it and pushing it we wound up with 16 girls in the beginning of the year and I'm pretty sure we ended with 16 girls at the end of the year so it was really great to watch them you know watch them grow and a lot of that is kind of the speech
to divers ility of coach goeta who puts in a ton of hours he actually can't be here tonight because he is on the uh District seating committee so he's out Fair one uh getting ready for for our run um it's the end of we went to the section final again this year uh but now the individual part of the season comes uh districts regions and hopefully we sending a couple of guys to Atlantic City so I'm going to ask Joe G to come up on behalf of his dad [Applause] [Music] [Applause] thank you again everyone for coming out thank you uh our board Commissioners our Administration uh the high school administration for coming out to support our athletes and our coaches um the balls that we given and and the statutes that we're given uh

distri teachers parents principles this board behind me this superintendent the best the best of the best the second relevant thing for today is actually national student volunteer day so you look at all these students that go out and play sports and volunteer to do things in the district it's pretty exciting it's pretty exciting that we're here today honoring folks and kids and students like that CL against substance abuse took on a project U probably a couple years ago with our uh wonderful Health educator Le hawani who is a uh comes out to all the schools and talks about bs don't know they just are what they are what they do um we took out a program to be uh Escape deap we're we're creating banners that are going to be put up throughout the city
uh and what we did was we hosted a banner contest with the high with the students and we picked three we picked three winners we had well over a hundred entries uh we picked three winners we picked one from the uh grade schools one from the uh middle school and one from the high school um but this wouldn't be possible without the support and help of the Board of Education clion Health Department we we have partnered with them for years and and it's a great partnership and we're very very proud of it uh clipon city council uh and of course the members of the winners this year the winners for this this event have certificates and plaques and and each winner gets a $100 Amazon gift card uh School five Alejandro Quinones [Applause] [Music] [Applause]
[Music] did sure you [Applause] [Music] [Applause] our woodro Wilson our Middle School winner from woodro Wilson Raman [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] on come on down [Applause] [Music] [Applause] and our high school winner was is Sophie Hernandez I do not believe Sophie is with us here tonight but we'll make sure she gets her gift card and her plaque I'll actually bring it tomor bring but again you know cing against substance abuse we work very very hard to try to educate the students in the district about the ill effects of alcohol drugs making smoking um and it wouldn't be possible without the partnership that we have with the health department and supportive education this superintendent he has never said no program has push forward U I'm ass his office last week for a meeting for a uh
you know Su we're doing a suicide awareness September uh Dr oazi has been a partner of ours from since he got here I met with him before he even started for the district to talk about CA and what we do and why we do it and he has been a wonderful wonderful supporter of ours as well as our health department John our health officer we wouldn't be able we are all volunteers we are made up of a board of volunteers and it wouldn't be possible without the support of our city council of our Board of ucation Commissioners as well as administrators and uh you know so so I'm I'm proud to stand up here today and give these Awards these plaques will these banners will be displayed throughout the city one will be on uh
the Board of Education building there's a plaque there's a banner there now that's coming down it's probably been up there about 12 or 14 years so we had to buy banners to fit over that because building is probably discolored from the banner being up so long uh the second one will be on the train trestle over between by the shop right Liquor on bson Avenue there's an old ban that's probably been up there for almost 30 years uh goes back to the just say no days with the drug awareness and then the third Banner is going to be on the overpass as you come off the highway going underneath by Christopher middle school so uh again we went to theity we asked them where we can put them they came up with the ideas city
manager is another supporter of ours so it's important for us to acknowledge them them folks because without them our program don't go forward uh again I want and I want to call up Leal come up for for some photos and our our vice president equip against substance abuse happens to be one of the Board of Education commission Judy bord I want J photos also [Applause] [Music] than [Applause] on a final note one last thing I want to say is uh happy early birthday to uh Judy bassard her birthday's [Applause] Monday birthday commission uh thank you m Mr wiow and thank thank you to all the cast um volunteers that help our students so much in in our city okay next I would like to invite um the senior Key Club Treasurer nasle yis to present

we've been talking about uh a framework and how we implemented all of our schools for at a minimum the past four years board meetings tonight we're very happy to promote and to tell you all about the pbsis model sit uh in conversation with our University Partners at University of Connecticut and Ru University they suggested that because of all of our awesomeness we develop model sites these model sites are places our schools our instructional buildings where um our fellow uh our other fellow schools uh and coaches can look to for guidance and support around implementation as well as our outside districts other schools other universities that want to um take a look further or deeper look into what we're doing in in our pbss practices so what is a model site what is the criteria it
involves the following so it's um model sites have to have high fidelity of implementation and and every year we take uh self assessments to make those things happen um these these uh schools uh use datadriven data to drive their decision making so everything that they're putting in place all of the practices all of the decisions are based off of their actual student and uh staff and parent data they are ensuring that uh positive outcomes or they're demonstrating positive outcomes the two schools that you'll see in a bit have demonstrated decrease in office conduct referrals increase in positive School climate um as well as an overall warm and fuzzy feeling in their buildings uh they also promote and EMB boast sustainable PBIS systems you got to understand that the time the labor and the love that
goes into implementing pbsis Frameworks these are things that have to be developed that can be sustained year after year not just something um that happen uh one time and and as evident by the schools that you see toight have been implementing for multiple years then um our schools the part of the criterial was also to effectively uh engage family and Community uh and both the schools tonight have gone above and beyond and engaging our our parents our caregivers our Guardians and the community uh to to engage them with their programs most of uh another important thing that they've uh accomplished and is the recognition and reinforcement system for students and staff do in the idea of changing behavior and outstand up here and talk about it over and over again is we promote what we
want to see punishment does not decrease uh behaviors we have to promote what we want to see we have to teach Behavior as an academic uh as we do with academics and so our schools tonight have uh developed an excellent uh process to doing that overall all they are also committed to professional development the two schools that you that are being showcased tonight as model sites have gone above and beyond in working with all uh our staff in their buildings to ensure that the the the flavor that they bring to the framework is specific to their building and and that they understand that everybody in the building understands and reads the framework so up first um I want to uh welcome the undeniable Blue Wave of school [Applause] 11 come up love to Cate and
