I heard it went tremendously. Thank you. Yes, sure.
Any anytime Hey um Mr. Vra, school business administrators report. >> Thank you, Mr. President. Good evening, everyone. Start off with the buildings and grounds and transportation report for custodial daily custodial services continue across all district facilities. Cleaning and sanitation schedules are maintained to support safe and orderly school operations. Classrooms, offices, hallways, and common areas of service regularly. Staff respond properly to building needs and provide support for school events as required. For maintenance, we the preventative and corrective maintenance continues. Districtwide essential building systems are monitored and maintained with activities prioritized based on operational needs. Coordination with outside vendors occurs as necessary to address specialized repairs. Transportation, uh, a part-time bus driver has been hired. Uh, there's some news about her, right? We don't know when she might start, if she will start. Uh, I think we
could talk about that in executive Uh recruitment is on is ongoing to fill one other additional driver position. Transportation services for the period have operated without interruption. Uh speaking of transportation, one of our buses did go down yesterday. So we thank everyone and the public for understanding. We were able to rent the bus from Leonia. So until we get the bus back, uh we will be running at full strength. So right now we're renting the bus from Leonia. So we wouldn't have any delays. So, the delays really were for yesterday afternoon and this morning. I have to commend our our staff for really getting our students to and from school safely. Right. Okay. And Mashios, our prepaid balances for December 2025 at month end is $8,842.17. negative balances are $980.70 and our profit and loss
is right now we are at at a profit of $3,223.36. Uh I do want to thank uh Mashios and their staff for working with us to ensure that the food service program is self- sustaining. Next is uh PF1 is the approval of the monthly facility calendar for February 2026. PF2, this was a last minute addition, I had emailed the board. What happened was with uh there is an away basketball game that's scheduled for Monday and with the impending snow, they were being very proactive. So it was being it's being pushed from Monday to another day. So, that's the reason why it's on there and why I emailed the board earlier today about that. F1 is the approval of payroll for December 2025. F2, approval of the bills list. Thank you, Miss Meta. Uh F3 and
F4 are the financial reports and the transfer report for November 2025. F5 is the approval of Valley Health Systems agreement for the 2627 school year. This is for the drug and alcohol testing and the agreement goes from April 1st of this year to April 6th of next year. So if you were wondering uh F6, this is the approval to amend professional services maximum amounts for the 2526 school year. This was approved back in April of last year, but there were some services that were left blank. Since then, we have filled them in. So the board will be approving the amendments. It was to the behavior analytic consultant, bilingual psychological and educational evaluation, literacy consultant, nursing services, and occupational therapy services. So now they're all filled in. So we are required to have the board approve
it, and then from there we will advertise it in the newspaper. F7 is the approval for a final payment to Lowore Roofing Company. That is just to remind everybody that was the one of the rod grant projects to replace the roof here and it was a total of almost $50,000. We anticipate to get back 40% which is about $20,000. F8 is the approval of the appointment of ATRA janitorial supply for the 2526 school year on a cooperative bid through Hunter uh County Educational Services Commission. Although it's through a co-op, it once it goes over my bid threshold, there has to be something to identify that it's gone over the bid threshold that the board identified it and they voted on it and they approved it. So even though it's part of a co-op, still if
it goes over my bid threshold of 53,000, I have to identify that and we have gone over uh that threshold. F9 is the approval of the January 26 transfers for of preschool education aid for the 2526 school year and F10 is approval of an out of district tuition for the 2526 school year. >> Thank you Mr. Varach. Any questions comments? Hey term superintendent school report Mr. Scariffield. >> I'm blinking. >> Oh, it takes a second. >> Ah, thank you very much, Mr. Banker. Okay. Tonight on the agenda, you're going to see approval of the fire and emergency drill report. S1, S2, the approval of the enrollment report. S3, um, the approval of the harassment, imitation, intimidation, and bullying monthly report. and S4 the approval of school safety data report period 1 September 20 2025 to
December 31 2025 that's our any hibs any violence and vandalism things of those natures trainings that we've done for the staff and the students so that's all uh tucked away and submitted to the state curriculum items approval of student field trips and transportation requests for the 202526 school year was there an addition to that Mr. Varra is why it's yellow these field trips I'm guessing. Yes. >> Yes. >> Yeah. Yeah. We try to get them on as we go so they don't get lost in the shuffle. Um I got to look at personnel 2022. One second. >> Yeah. It was something for Miss Espazito. Mr. Koso. >> Yeah. >> No problem. I just want to get it straight so we're all on the same page. I really didn't look that over first. It's enrollment uh
personnel. Here we go. That's what it was. Okay. Personnel actions. We had um two appointments that were added on here. One was the appointment of a uh full-time custodian and the other one was uh an appointment of a part-time aid, certified aid. Step one. They they were just done and we wanted to move that forward. um accept uh acceptance of a resignation notice, acceptance of retirement. So, we did have one retirement to date. And then CR1, approval of first reading of new and revised bylaws. So, you might be a little curious because you see certain things listed in there. If you do reflect to that page, you'll see that um the sexual harassment um um there's a new one 1552. But if you look at 3362, the policy and the regulation, and 4352, the policy
and the regulation were abolished. What they were were the old policies that were one for support staff and one for teaching staff. We do belong to a um policy co-op, more or less, Strauss Esme. Um I went to a seminar with Mr. Barrow the other day uh and they went over they they said that they've seen a lot of new faces in Atlantic City last time and I thought it'd be a good idea to bring people together to kind of explain what they do and it was really enlightening. So I'm going to pass some of it on to you. When you see these revi you know you catch these things and it's a revised policy is mandatory and you wonder you know why did they change it? Well, they use a lot of different um
things to do that. One, I mean, if the law changes, if any regulations change, but the other part is they'll monitor the commissioner's decisions like they if anything comes and it makes something that may change the policy, they'll update the policy. So, they're constantly working on them. That's why you'll see something like nepotism, which you've heard before, updated, but it's because other things happened and they just want to give us more protection there. So, what they did with those two the sexual harassment policies, instead of having one for support staff and one for teaching staff, they loved it all together because they said you get in situations where two people might be involved, one might be support staff, one might be regular staff, and then you're going back and forth even between title seven, title
nine. So, they've very much clarified things and give you step by step. Um, the two the other big ones that were on there, library materials, that's new and that has to do with the way we procure library materials, purchase, and if you're going to eliminate materials, there's a procedure to do it and it's pretty well defined and everything else. Um, so it tells you how that can be done. And then the uh last one that was a big one um was the I'm trying to see where it is here. I don't even know if it's on here. Well, I think we might have passed it earlier in the year. It had to do with optouts. So they have they clarified how that's done and they reminded us that in New Jersey opt outs for any
kind of um curricular material are covered on are only covered under health family life education or sex education. So those are the three topics. Now there's other things I know that people have opted out for. So what we'd have to do is determine if they fit into one of those categories. Some of them do easily, some of them may be on on the fringe, but they've given us clear guidance on that. So, makes it a lot easier for us to enforce. I mean, really, that's our our, you know, bible here in a school. When you have a situation, you go to the policy guide and you work from there. Uh, they also said with the sexual harassment one, the most important thing is to get your attorney involved right away. So, they advocated that. they
said anything like that and use the policy as your guide. So that is my report. Um if anyone has any questions seeing none. >> Um Mr. Scarfield, can you tell me one more time which policy that was that you're referring to? >> Sir, which one? >> The one that you were just referring to in regards to options for Taylor. >> That was back in I'm believing September, but they went over it. I'll give you the number. You want the policy number? Yeah, if you have it, I have that >> to read more thoroughly. >> I have that and uh and I'll give you the up any updates that they gave us. Let me just see. They gave us a couple of different papers here. >> But we have not approved that policy. >> Oh, yeah.
No, you did early on, beginning of the year. That had to be like August, I believe, that came out the opt outs. Uh I'll give you the number in a second. I don't think it was a new policy. Was it updated? >> No, you know what? It wasn't updated. They just gave us guidance on things and they you know it I'll hand you I'll get you this part. Okay. >> Explanation more more or less >> because what you're referring to is the Supreme Court case, right? The Taylor >> Correct. Mammud versus Correct. and they gave us like a lot of uh information on that particular thing and I'll get that to you uh tomorrow. >> So, do we need to create a policy regarding >> They recommended that we sit and we discuss and we
bring the attorney in and we kind of craft because any policies you get, you have the option to craft it to your particular needs in the district. You just have to follow, you know, the uh the right channels and the right laws. Okay? That's why they want the attorney involved to make sure you're not >> overstepping or missing anything. >> That's something we need to we need to just make it clear so that we don't have any controversy with it because we don't want any of that either. And we don't want people to feel like, you know, well, why were they able to opt out and I wasn't. You know what I mean? I we have to really clarify how and where and when. >> Okay. >> Thank you, Mr. Uh, open public comments on
any agenda or non-aggenda items. State your name, address for the record, address, address the board president. Each person wishing to speak will have five minutes each. Anyone wishing to speak will be given the opportunity to do so. Seeing none, hearing none, close the meeting to the public. Okay. Correspond correspondence to members of the board of education. >> Okay. None. Adoption of prior board minutes. Upon the recommendation of the interim superintendent, the board here board hereby approves the following meeting minutes. January 22nd, 2026 publish public session meeting agenda. Excuse me. December 11th, 2025 work session meeting minutes. December 11th, 2025 work session executive meeting minutes. December 18th, 2025 public session meeting minutes. December 18th, 2025 public executive public session executive meeting minutes. Have a motion. >> Second. >> Roll call. >> Miss Caruso. >> Uh, yes
to everything except I have to abstain on the December the 18th meeting. I wasn't here. >> Okay. So, yes to the 11th of December >> and abstain from >> the the December 18th meeting. Yes. >> Okay. Got that. Thank you, Miss Collie. >> Yes, >> Mr. Sigalini. >> Uh, I'll abstain >> for both 1211 and 1218. >> Okay, Miss Shmley, >> yes. >> Miss Mena, >> yes to December 18th, both public and uh work, but I need to abstain from December 11th. Okay. >> And Mr. Banker, >> I'm not on here. >> Yes. and Miss Laruso. >> Yes. >> Oh, that's weird. No. And >> that's weird. I'm bored. You're there. >> I'm so And Miss Laruso. >> Yes. >> Okay. You're on the next one. important. We needed your vote. want me to wait
a second or >> no? >> Go on. Upon the recommendation of the superintendent, the board hereby approves motions S1 through S4. S1, approval of fire and emergency drill report. S2, approval of enrollment report. S3, approval of harassment, intimidation, and bullying monthly report. S4, approval of the school safety data report, period 1, September 1st, 2025 through December 31st, 2025. >> Second. >> Roll call. >> Miss Caruso, >> yes. >> Miss Collie, >> yes. >> Miss Laruso, >> yes. >> Mr. Sealini, >> yes. >> Miss Shmley, >> yes. Miss Meta. >> Yes. >> Mr. Banker. >> Yes. Okay. Um, curriculum committee, Miss Shemley. >> Thank you, Mr. President. Um, upon the recommendation of the superintendent, the board hereby approves motion C1. C1, approval of student field trip transportation requests for the 2025 school year. Second >> roll
call. >> Miss Caruso, >> yes. >> Miss Collie, >> yes. >> Miss Laruso, >> yes. >> Mr. Sealini, >> yes. >> Miss Shmley, >> yes. Miss Mena, >> yes. >> Mr. Banker, >> yes. >> I'm sorry, Mr. BR, can I actually ask you a question? Under for C1, the transportation provider cost >> it looks a little different than it used to. My presumption is if there just says ERBOE, there's no cost associated with it. >> Uh, no, for CBI that's uh there is a cost because when the students go for CBI trips, the district pays for it. So, it's not a it's not a cost to provide transportation. It's a cost for the students to go to that CBI, that community- based instruction location. >> But the ones that don't have a cost next to
it where it just says erboe, for instance, like C1.3 says, C1.4 says $50, whereas C1.1 just says ERBOE and there's no associated cost. >> No, because some of them there is a cost and other there are not a cost. No, the first two are community service. The others are are community based instruction and most of them there is a cost but that's for our students when they go to these locations that they can uh for example wherever they're going that they are allowed to spend the money. So the district pays for that. >> Okay, understood. >> The transportation doesn't cost anything, >> right? No, I'm just saying I just wanted to clarify if there was a cost for the actual trips. Clearly the food bazaar, right? $50 that they'll be spending there. I didn't know
if no price point meant that's why it was blank. >> Yes, we we don't ask the From my knowledge, I don't believe the teachers ask the parents for funding. It's this is it comes uh from the special education line. Yeah. >> Thank you, Miss Shamley. Personnel Committee, Miss Caruso. >> Thank you, Mr. President. Upon the recommendation of the superintendent, the board hereby approves P1, approve the Kelly Education Substitute List. P2, personnel actions, P3, approval of travel expenditures, P4, acceptance of resignation notification with regret, and P5, acceptance of retirement with regret. Second >> comments roll call. >> Miss Caruso, >> yes. >> Miss Collie, >> yes. >> Miss Laruso, >> yes. >> Mr. Sealini, >> yes. >> Miss Shmley, >> yes. >> Miss Mena, >> yes. >> Mr. Banker, >> yes. >> And that ends my
report, Mr. President. >> Thank you. Physical facilities, Miss Russo. >> Okay. Um before we do the resolutions, um I do have a report that we will be replacing a freezer. Um a part broke and needed to be replaced, but the freezer is no longer under warranty. Um so we're going to replace the freezer and the refrigerator. Um no funds will be used from the general funds. It's going to come out of the um out of the food balance, the food service balance. So that's >> why spend >> That's right. And if we don't use it, we'll lose it. >> Yeah. So, >> it's high, >> right? >> Is the balance high? >> Yes, we have a pretty big surplus, which is not a bad thing. But when you have Lincoln, it's brand new. There was
really nothing there. But I want to say a year or two ago, we showed a lot of attention at McKenzie and then we put another piece of equipment at FA. So, when I was speaking to Miss Laruso and Miss Mena, it just made more financial sense just to purchase a new freezer with a 7-year warranty. And then if you did fix this freezer, what are you going to get? Maybe a year out of the compressor and then if something else breaks down, it just it just didn't make sense. It It just didn't. And plus, we have uh a surplus in food service that we need to spend. So, it it just made financial sense to do that. Um, upon the recommendation of the interim superintendent, the board hereby approves motions PF1 to PF2. PF1, approval
of monthly facilities calendar for February 2026. Approval to amend PF2, approval of district use of facility applications approved at July 20 July 24, 2025 meeting. Second >> comments. >> Roll call. >> Miss Caruso? >> Yes. >> Miss Collie? >> Yes. >> Miss Laruso? >> Yes. >> Mr. Sealini? >> Yes. >> Miss Shmley? >> Yes. >> Miss Mena? >> Mr. Banker? >> Yes. >> That ends my report. >> Thank you, Miss Luso. Um, community relations committee, Miss Collie. >> Thank you, Mr. President. Um, upon the recommendation of the superintendent, the board hereby approves motion CR1. Uh, CR1 approval of the first reading of the new and revised bylaws, policies, and regulations. Second >> comments. >> Roll call. >> Miss Caruso? >> Yes. >> Miss Collie? >> Yes. >> Miss Laruso? Yes, >> Mr. Sealini. >> Yes,
>> Miss Shmley. >> Yes, >> Miss Mena. >> Yes, >> Mr. Banka. >> Yes. >> That concludes my report. >> Thank you, Miss Coley. >> Okay. Technology Committee. Mr. Sealini. >> Thank you, Mr. President. Um, I see that there's no new business uh to discuss. Yes, I would like to read um the report. Okay. Okay. Uh this is the technology report uh from January of this year 2026 information security program plan. The district continues to proactively evaluate all appropriate district technologies to ensure the safety and security of our data and information systems. Planning of unnecess of necessary maintenance and upgrades for both the current and future school year are ongoing and underway. Recent uh vulnerability scams were conducted to identify areas of growth and improvements within our systems and infrastructure. -ate purchasing for the 2020
0342025 2026 school year continues to support technology infrastructure across the district. Uh budgeting for the 2627 school year is underway and work continues to determine district needs in regards for instructional technologies. Initial meetings were held to discuss all anticipated purchases, renewals, etc. to support district infrastructure, programming, and technology needs. As we progress through the budget cycle, the technology team continues to ensure that the technology and support needs of all students and staff are considered when evaluating items and services for purchase. The district continues to evaluate varying technology platforms to help support productivity, efficiency, and instruction within the district. The district continues to evaluate policies and procedures related to appropriate technologies to help support productivity, efficiency, and instruction within the district. Parents are encouraged to download the Parent Square app to ensure all communications at both
the district and school level. The platform will be used for all official school communications, specifically any closing and delays, early dismissals due to inclement weather. The district continues to use Genesis to share and collect data from families through the forms portal to allow for efficient and paperless communications. Forms are updated annually to account for new information. That concludes my report. >> Thank you, Mr. Sealini. Finance Committee, Miss Mana. >> Thank you, Mr. President. Upon the recommendation of the interim superintendent, the board hereby approves motions F1 through F10. F1, approval of payroll for December 2025. F2, approval of bills list. F3, approval of financial reports, November 2025. F4, approval of transfer report, November 2025. F5, approval of Valley Health Systems agreement for 2026 to 2027 school year. F6, approval to amend professional services maximum amounts for
the 2526 school year as approved at the April 24th, 2025 meeting. F7, approval of final payment to Lumar Roofing Company. F8 approval of AT janitorial supply LLC supply it at all distributors on cooperative bid HC cat 252 for the 2025 20226 school year. F9 approval of the January 2026 transfers for preschool education aid for the 2526 school year. F10 approval of tuition extraordinary service contracts and agreements for the 2526 school year. I thought I shortened it after the technology report. It didn't work out that way today. >> That's fun report, isn't it? >> Second. >> Comments. >> Okay. Roll call, please. >> Miss Caruso? >> Yes. >> Miss Collie? Yes, >> Miss Laruso. >> Yes, but F2 I have to recuse myself from check number 34593. >> Okay, recuse. Okay, abstain, whichever is appropriate. >>
Okay. >> Thank you, >> Mr. Sealini. Yes, Mley. >> Yes, but I have to recuse uh in F2. I have to recuse myself from check number 34621. Please >> Miss Mana. >> Yes. >> And Mr. Banker. >> Yes. Thank you, Miss Mana. >> Hey, old business. New business. >> Is it going to be the same thing? >> Okay. Um the National Honor Society um presentation was very very nice the other night and um it was nice to see a good showing of us there. So it was really really nice >> and the kids did a good job and um that's all. Is that what you were going to say? >> I was going to say that. But also um I know Josie mentioned it earlier about the uh basketball team starting. The girls actually came
in second place in their tournament last week. So that was really awesome. Um, so go out and watch the game. >> Congratulations. >> Yeah, >> that was nice. >> No other new business. >> Okay. I would be remissed not to say thank you to the superintendent Scarfield and Mrs. Barlli and the uh Schwikerts, Jeffrey and Mrs. Schwikert um for bringing the children to the senior center on the 13th of January. They performed. They were wonderful. I believe there were 110 children. We usually get that amount. How they recruit them is just amazing. And they were so talented and we're lucky to have them in town and the seniors couldn't have been prouder. Um, you know, to see our future generation. That's it. Thanks. Thank you. Okay, close the meeting. Um, close the hearing public comment.
>> Yeah, I think we did. We could probably take this out, right? Yes. Yeah, it was for >> agenda and yes, it was both. Oh, you did it for both pages. >> Yeah, it looks like >> and yeah, we have to fix that because in the beginning it could be agenda or not agenda. >> I mean, you're really only required to have one >> public comment. Historically, >> I think we should keep two. >> I'm I'm I'm gonna I'm gonna just open it up again because we do have a member of the public that'd like to speak and we do have it on the agenda, but um we'll going forward we can Okay. like to open the meeting to hearing of the citizens. You want to hold or do you want to Hear me? >>
Yes. >> Um, >> if you could also just state your name and address. >> Paul Weiss, 207 River Renaissance. >> Thank you. >> Easter Ratherford 07075 >> 1703. This board of education, like other boards of education in the state, will sometime between now and the beginning of the 2026 27 school year have to figure out where in the curriculum and where in the school day cursive writing is going to be taught. >> Um, I'm totally in favor of it. So that's something you all have to consider and also who's going to teach it out of what subject area and uh with regard to who's going to teach it. If it's a brand new teacher, they'll probably have to learn it themselves. >> True. >> So I just wanted to state that and uh I want
to agree with Mr. Sealini on the fine presentation of the band and chorus at the senior citizen meeting. The students were wonderful. Okay. Have a good year. >> Thank you, Mr. Weiss. Thank you. We're awaiting further guidance from the state, but we do know it's in grade levels three, four, and five mandatory. So, uh, we'll fit it in and it'll fit in. We'll make it work because you know it's funny because I was watching at the National Honor Society the kids had to enter and sign in. We figured what about 45 kids there. I think five or six of them actually sign their name. Everyone else printed. So I thought that was pretty telling. So it's good news. Oh, it's >> You got to sign something. >> It's correct.
