012the chair at 6:17 p.m. is still me. Okay, next order of business is the school board code of ethics. Uh, everyone has a folder. Please return it to me. There are two documents for you to sign and you can return it to me. Whereas each member of the board of education shall possess the qualifications required by law and shall be bound by the provision of the school ethics act in accordance with NJSA 18A12-24.1. And whereas the board of education is required on an annual basis to sign an acknowledgement that he or she received a copy, read and will become familiar with the code of ethics for the school board members contained within NJSA 18A12-21. Now therefore be it resolved that the board of education adopts New Jersey school board member code of ethics to include
013that the school ethics act and code of ethics have been received and discussed that the policies and procedures regarding training or district board of education members have been adopted in policy and that each board of education member acknowledges receipt of the code of ethics for schoolboard members and has become familiar with the code of ethics. First, I will uphold and enforce all laws, state board rules, and regulations and court orders pertaining to schools. Desired changes should be brought about only through legal and ethical procedures. Two, I will make decisions in terms of the educational welfare of children and will seek to develop and maintain public schools which meet the individual needs of all children regardless of their ability, race, creed, sex, or social standing. Three, I will confine my board action to policym, planning, and
014appraisal, and I will help to frame policies and plans only after the board has consulted those who will be affected by them. Four, I will carry out my responsibility not to administer the schools, but together with my fellow board members to see that they were are wellrun. Five, I will recognize that authority rests with the board of education and will make no personal promises nor take any private action which may compromise the board. Six, I will refuse to surrender my independent judgment to special interest or partisan political groups or to use the schools for personal gain or for the gain of friends. Seven, I will hold confidential all matters pertaining to the schools which if disclosed would needlessly injure individuals or the schools, but in all other matters, I will provide accurate information and in
015in concert with my fellow board members interpret to the staff the aspirations of the community for its schools. Eight, I will vote to appoint the best qualified personnel available after consideration of the recommendation of the chief administrative officer. Nine, I will support and protect school personnel and proper performance of their duties. And 10, I will refer all complaints to the chief administrative officer and will act on such complaints at public meetings only after failure of an administrative solution. There's nothing on here for a vote on that, but it's listed as a resolution. So, it's got all the terminology of resolution that board of education adopts the New Jersey school board member code. So, I don't know if you guys want >> Do you need a So moved. >> Yeah. >> So moved. Second. >> Votes.
