republic for which it stands one nation under god indivisible with [Music] thank you reverend about it all right this time i'll turn it over to dr nick and turn over to miss tate for the spotlight on green cap good afternoon [Music] yes miss maggie grange with risley middle who's here to tell us a little bit about how her first couple of months hello thank you for inviting me tonight to talk about risley middle school and so to start off with our students have been doing very well after being out of school for five months they've transitioned wonderfully and you can tell that the students are very excited to be at risley and it's despite wearing masks you can see the students smiling as well and our teachers have done a great job they've been working
hard and just you know happy to see students again it feels like a school again by having students in the building it really does and so just to let you know at risley because we know that students have missed several months of school as a school we've created a pbis classroom behavior toolkit that we made and our pbis team is made up of teachers counselors and administrators and this toolkit is to provide reteaching strategies for students if they're exhibiting some low-level misbehaviors where we don't want to escalate and also we want our students to understand our pbis matrix of war which stands for respect ownership achievement and responsibility and so we also at risley have a cabs program and this program works with our students with autism and this year our students are doing wonderful
they're creating very positive relationships with their teachers and other students they're doing very well academically and socially as well and we have a great team of teachers and parents in our cavs program that show our students every day that they're very excited to have them and so we also have another program called bridge our bridge program works with students that are mid and even though they may have a learning disability we've been using the racer writing strategy of our students and they recently went through learning about sharks and so outside of the hallway you see that our students created a wonderful display of their learning about sharks and they were very excited about what they learned just two weeks ago we participated in banned books week and this involved our entire school so every morning
each morning we start off with a mystery question and so the students had to put in their answer in the class that got the most correct answer won donuts for their entire class and you know students and donuts that they were all for that for sure and also that gave our teachers and students a chance to learn about different books that are banned in other places such as harry potter and charlotte's web which i was very shocked by because i grew up reading charlotte's web that's banned somewhere else apparently and so this event is sponsored by the american library association my vision at grizzly is that i want the students to be resilient this is the year about resilience i want them to know that they can overcome any obstacle with hard work being responsible
staying focused and being positive and so this is the time to definitely learn that this year because it's so unique and my last thing i want to say is my athletics our cross country team had a great season this year our girls placed second in the championship last week our softball team is number one and so they are playing jamaican middle school in the softball playoffs tomorrow and also volleyball is number two and they're going to be at bhs at the championship tomorrow and we also have football playing at risley tomorrow so we got a lot of exciting games so definitely come out and see us we would love to have you and so thank you so much thank you thank you thank you thank you miss maggie next up we have our national merit

them [Music] step in right there would the parents like to get a photo real quick [Applause] and that congratulations my portion of the agenda thank you brittany [Music] all righty assistant's addressed the board all right there's no citizens to address the board this evening so i'll uh move to uh entertain a motion to approve the agenda as presented moved by dr year again i think it's a second tag mr madava all those in favor jerry you in favor i'll take that as an eye motion passes 7-0 mr mansell is on google phone i guess right he's still there is he still there okay or not yeah yeah that's trouble haven't you on the phone i'm good all right all righty that'll take us down to number six of consent agenda i'd like to consent seven
eight nine ten eleven eight that's right you're gonna take 11 a y'all please yes please no problem uh 11b 11c one which is the good report um 11d one any further additions for deletions i don't have a problem doing two three and four if you all want to but it's okay yes i'm fine with it is everybody okay with that okay we'll consent uh d2 3 and 4 as well so i'll read those back we're going to pull personnel so we'll consent 11b which is field trips 11c which is facilities in one investment the good report 11d one is financial report june 2020. 11d2 has approval of the title one person of prometheum boards d3 is approval of the title one purchase of chromebooks d4 is approval of the bond bus purchase all right here
and those i'll entertain a motion to approve the sentence announced so move dr saying about reverend bobbitt energetic yes please um i don't see anything attached for field trips is that correct it should be attached to ours it's it okay and i can if you want to pull it we can pull it up yeah there's uh the one that we voted on last month which was the one in the week but just gonna fully talk about it that way that's rotc it's rotc and then the one that's talking about last month okay okay it should be on there though i don't have it yeah okay so we'll leave it any conditions or deletions all right i got a first uh dr jurgen a second governor government all those in favor six j are you in
favor i am good okay motion passes 7-0 all right that'll bring us down to number 11 superintendent's report i believe we're going to pull personnel and policy we presented the personnel report at the work session on thursday so any questions there i just had a couple quick questions and i i don't know if this if uh mrs bennett made this a part of the report going forward didn't necessarily be on the report page you can verbally tell us but i wanted to ask if there's any any teachers being hired on that report that are not certified at this time they're being hired on provisional certificates not to my knowledge okay and um second thing and i don't know how the board feels about this how you feel about it maybe it's something we already have
in place i wasn't aware and i know we have waivers and that sort of thing and it's and it's uh it's good to have that flexibility at some point but i'd like us to consider um a way to notify parents when their child especially in advance classes um is is being taught by a teacher that is either not certified or not highly qualified in that area so i don't know how if there's a if there's a mechanism for that as it stands today i'm not sure um seems like we used to talk about how they qualified a lot and waivers been and you know we had to move teachers around and we've had some issues with ap and stuff like that before but um i'd be interested in putting some mechanism in place to make
sure that the principal alerts you know any classes where a teacher is either not certified or not highly qualified in that area if that's the if that's the way we can get you know if that's something we take advantage of i know i know when we used to before we had the waivers right we had to we had to notify parents right as a title one system we had to notify parents if someone was not certified to teach a certain subject or not highly qualified um but the waiver is kind of taking that away you're right i don't have a problem doing that i would just like to pick that part back up if we could yeah i don't have a problem with that okay thank you just uh make a motion we approve personnel
report on a second motion by dr jurgen who did the second uh mr holsey segment with mr hulsey any discussions all those in favor mr mansell you in favor of that yeah okay yes sir motion passes seven to zero policy mr donald do you want to talk about the uh yes sir changing policy i was going to uh leave it to you where you can explain in general where everybody will know why we what we're doing with that can you pull that up chris okay basically what has happened is house bill 444 on july the 1st 2020 said that the state was only going to pay for 30 hours of dual enrollment courses and so instead instead of us allowing kids to just take unlimited dual enrollment courses because their parents had the means to
to pay for more than 30. we've adopted our policy uh where we are valedictorian salutatorian policy where people get that bonus point for dual enrollment to fall in line with house bill 444 and so students would only be able to take 30 hours of free college classes and get the bonus point so that kind of levels the playing field and take someone's finances out of how to play and under the bill they have to be a junior or senior for the classes to be those and the bill does take into account kids who already have hours kids who are juniors or seniors it does take into account and so we put a link to that bill which basically says we're going to follow the provisions of house house bill 444 when we select valedictorians of
auditorium or any grade point average that we do now for the purposes of hope scholarship my wife brought this up actually and she'll be glad i said this for the purposes of hope scholarship and zell miller scholarship we will count the additional point that they are in for dual enrollment just not for valedictorians all right with that said does that make sense it does because i mean you know we don't want to play we don't and we don't really um i guess ga future sort of calculates that anyway it's not really us i mean so we give them the grade we give them the grades right they they weigh in how they weigh them so yeah i think that's fine okay so with all of that said i make a motion that we approve the
valedictorian and salutatorian new policy promotion on the floor with hacking second reverend bobbitt any further discussion that's one more question and this is sort of not really about policy necessarily but so how does that impact our i know there was a push last year maybe the year before to start um like a better term cross training you know teachers at the high school level to be able to teach the college level courses as well are we still moving towards that i mean it may not be as big of a nice as you don't have ninth and tenth graders doing it but we're still going to try to where they don't have to go to the college to get the class are we doing that now i can't remember where we are in that process i
haven't heard about us doing that since i left right and i think that might kind of gone away a little bit because the people who were already we selected the people when they were doing it more so at glen academy than it brought up right okay playing all that mr holly said i know it was just speaking out of gekko i know that would do enrollment as well as uh the career academy and and doing the uh technical institute was doing that as well how they could pay for teachers to come in they would kind of offset some of our budget i think with someone even looking to check i know pete's snail has had that up pretty good about a year two ago and it's uh a little bit all right all right so
motion was made by mr medalla seconded by reverend bobbitt all those in favor mr mansell i'm good marcus yesterday okay motion passes i will look into that too i'm just any other other no other any land legal or personnel i have no i have none oh we okay i don't have any questions answered that we kind of talked about last time yeah they've been answered and anybody can follow me okay okay i got any time and i can get further answers no problem okay okay thank you good with that mike okay good all right all right let's chair uh make a motion to adjourn all right dr you're going with the motion we get a second please reverend okay all those in favor to adjourn mr mantel ready to adjourn let him stay i'm good
chairman i'm good all right uh we adjourn at 6 17. with brett you
