this point in time we're going to be moving into presentations Dr Smith the floor is all yours Justin thank you Mr drying so we have pretty obvious from our presentations and won the Colorado World Series this summer and I would say like the entire town was Grew From the entire way and we as well here we talked about it at some meetings and then um definitely had to have you here so it's you know it's one of those um they're all etsd students they're all Eve sham kids and um so we're gonna call them one at a time and then stay on the internet but uh or president Mrs Ryan we're vice president and didn't come up as we hand out the certificates and some of them I think are even missing the practice like
this so yeah I feel like like getting the way of greatness by uh holding them off from the practices but um but we really appreciate everybody coming tonight for this it's really so valuable and so excited for your accomplishment and uh just just good to be happier that you're a part of our our family here so first student Michael appellucci [Applause] we've got Kyle Burgess [Applause] we've got Christopher Cameron [Applause] Drew Gable foreign [Applause] [Music] foreign [Applause] Raven's eager [Applause] bad last Nicholas hot [Applause] Springs Mississippi all right come closer parents you can come closer thank you very much [Applause] please just a quick shout out I wanted to thank Carl again for her wrote up that we were able to move forward to all the Asian families and I also want to thank Denise
West for sending me the video that we were able to forward to all the families too so thanks parents [Applause] and I'll say too after presentations I traditionally say that the families that came from presentations are welcome to stay for the business of the board meeting but if you also want to go to some of you but if you want to if you want to head out um you know please feel free anytime and again congrats to all the boys fantastic foreign we'll take a two-minute recess while it's clearing out [Music] just in case anyone is not aware we have two public comments first public comment is for what is on the agenda and the second public comment which happens later in the evening is for anything that you wish to discuss the meeting will
now be open to the public reinforcing agenda items only however if your questions pertain to student or Personnel items or negotiations we ask that you see the superintendent after the meeting since we do not discuss these matters in public we ask that you limit your comments to three minutes per person it's also crucial please for you to give us your name and address before you speak up and also to limit your comments to one-time per public comment period is there anyone that wishes to speak good evening name and address please 1-1 there we go there we go agenda item uh 8.6 requesting for uh that be tabled and uh modified uh tonight we'll start with common sense although it seems the common sense seems to be so uncommon that perhaps we should call it Uncommon
Sense uh but I'd also like to add some science and some research to uh to the discussion here I think it's all uh we'd all agree that uh your job to also protect the children I think there's that probably ought to be included in the mission statement but uh you know you're all familiar with in loco parentis um and there's a reason why children can't get their driver's license till 17. you can't vote till you're 18. you can't buy a gun until you're 21 because it's also a universally agreed that 12 and 13 year old children do not always make good decisions I think we'd all agree with that and so we've I've reviewed the CH uh PEC curriculum and uh find the performance expectations uh lacking and probably ought to be modified or at
least there should be some additions and I'll uh itemize them later it would be very inappropriate and contrary for most parents wishes to encourage students to alter their biological binary gender and sexual orientation because data shows that it is a clear path from gay lifestyle to transsexual or transgender surgery it's also inappropriate in the curriculum in to discuss transgender surgery and that would be all of the surgeries associated with transgender and I don't think that's at all appropriate also um and just because a doctor can make a living um that on adolescent transgender surgery does not make it ethical the recent research cited below and that's just real quickly NIH uh American Academy of Pediatrics Columbia University it's um from the NIH the pediatricians to universities there's General agreement in the medical community the gender
dysphoria and transgender surgery is a dangerous life path and it should be recognized as dangerous for 20 to 40 percent of the uh uh transgender folks and end up attempting suicide it's awful and it's approximately 5 to 20 times greater than those who are binary and you just can't ignore this data it has to be included in any kind of discussion when we talk about uh you know gender identity unfortunately there's no evidence even that sometimes parents don't make good decisions unfortunately we had a case here just back in July where you know you know somebody's right you know it's a child end up writing a suicide note you know I mean almost you almost sometimes ask where's dyphus um and uh as the old saying misery loves company you know one wonders what's the
motivation okay for somebody to you know encourage this kind of behavior the state required curriculum is offensive to many parents there's a lot of talk about hate you know associated with the issue of sex education and the gay lifestyle but there's two sides um all right we just I want you to know that it's three minutes so are you almost finished I got one paragraph can I just finish this last one okay just yeah okay quickly yep the most important question is is are you protecting children and will you teach your children that a gay and life you know a gay or a transgender lifestyle is risky and dangerous I would hope that that you would also adopt the policy that no District employee is encouraged or is permitted to encourage students to alter a
student's biological binary gender and sexual orientation thank you thank you if you have that and would like to send it to the board I'm sure okay great thank you so much anyone else wish to speak okay seeing none we're going to close that portion of the meeting there's another public comment section at the end at this point we're going to move forward with the approval of the minutes I need a motion to approve item 6.1 and 6.2 do I have a motion Mr cantham Ms Capello any questions or comments regarding the minutes okay seeing none roll call please Mrs Capello yes Mrs Everhart yes Mr physicara I've stayed from both six one and six two Mr Canton yes Mr Meegan yes Mrs Ryan Yes motion carries thank you at this point we're going to move
to item seven superintendent's report and administrative items so I have a motion to approve item 7.1 through 7.6 Mr physicaro Miss Capello before we get into questions and comments I'm going to give the floor to Dr Smith all yours thank you Mrs Ryan so our first board meeting of the 22-23 school year and we just finished up our back to school nights which took place over the last two weeks and it was absolutely fantastic and I and I just wanted to mention them because it's in some ways hard to overstate the the magnitude of those nights for example in Middle School every parent every parent it was their first in-person back to school night for Middle School and then Elementary it would be the majority of our parents who were there for their first in-person
back to school night um and it just felt like I don't know if anything will ever go back to normal but like our new normal that we're back you know and I just want to thank all the staff for the the time that they take in preparing that and the energy that they give to their kids every day which was so palatable in um in their presentations and in the Halls those evenings um other Points of Light so on our agenda for approval tonight you'll see our first batch of extracurricular activities for the year and uh you know our extracurricular programming here is second to none you know you're not going to find a district that has a wider variety a wider range of ways for all kids to find find a niche find belonging
find fun and growth after school through our after school activities and and again thank you to all the staff who volunteer who work those activities it is truly appreciated and without it we wouldn't have the the programming that we do so for families if you are new to the district or haven't had your kids take part in those before definitely check it out you know reach out to the school find out more um kind kids broadcasting sign language dodgeball golf Morning Show Happy helpers sign language I could go on and on but um it's I don't just don't anybody miss out on those and um the I will point out that the activities look a little different school to school depending on the um the interests and the talents of our staff the among my
items is also the re-adoption of our safe return plan so we updated that because we also updated our emergency remote learning plan so every District's required to approve an emergency learning plan for the New Jersey Department of Education we have no intent to need that plan but we are required to re-adopt it so um that's why that's on there and um among the remainder of my comments I want to recognize that it is currently a national Hispanic Heritage Month which runs from September 15th through October 15th and which celebrates the history's cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors are from Spain Mexico the Caribbean and Central and South America our Township's second ever Eastern cultural day is taking place during this this time frame on Saturday October October 8th and if you're interested in
volunteering or performing please check out my updates they have links in there to register and um lastly I just want to um you know thank the staff again because those first weeks we're now like three weeks in are such a critical um inimitable time for making connections with kids and then that personal relationship building the Bedrock the foundation of student growth for the entire year is lead in those first weeks and I can't tell you how many times um you know as you move around our schools you can see that happening in real time as kids make connections with teachers and staff of all roles because it truly is a village effort in that way to help our kids really want to get up and come into school and um and so thank you to
everybody from our bus drivers to our teachers to our paraprofessionals to our administrators I could clerk type business secretaries every rule custodians for uh for seeing our kids for hearing our kids for valuing our kids um and and and making them feel that so that they can learn and then it's my comments Mrs Ryan thank you thank you Dr Smith any questions or comments to the superintendent's report okay seeing none let's go to a roll call please Mrs Mrs Capello yes Mrs Everhart yes Mr physicaro yes Mr Catherine yes Mr Meegan yes Mrs Ryan Yes motion carries thank you moving to item eight curriculum and instruction I need a motion to approve items 8.1 through 8.9 do I have a motion Miss Everhart second Miss Capello any questions or comments to curriculum instruction I actually
just wanted to say something about curriculum and instruction um privately I gave a shout out to the curriculum department but I would like to really publicly acknowledge all the hard work that our curriculum Department did over this summer if you take a look at the agenda there are um one to five different curriculums that they worked on and updated per state standards and sitting down and discussing it with our curriculum supervisors there wasn't really much to add which means we were doing what state wants us to do before the state wanted us to do it so that's a true Testament to our curriculum department so I would like to thank you Miss magulic and your your team so Kudos on a very productive and busy summer um I'm proud of all the work you've done
it's really really impressive um keeping that in mind any other questions or comments on curriculum okay seeing none roll call please Mrs Capello yes Mrs Everhart yes Mr physicaro yes Mr Captain yes Mr Meegan yes Mrs Ryan Yes motion carries moving to item nine finance and operations I need a motion to approve items 9.1 through 9.12 do I have a motion Mr Canton second Mr physicaro any questions or comments pertaining to finance and operations okay seeing none I'm going to ask for a roll call please Mrs Capello yes Mrs Everhart yes Mr physicaro yes Mr Canton yes Mr Meegan yes Mrs Ryan Yes motion carries moving to item 10 personnel of items 10.1 through 10.9 do I have a motion Miss Everhart second by Mr physicaro thank you any questions or comments pertaining to personnel

them good and they come back and they're going to spread all of their greatness with the students so welcome to Evesham to all the new staff but especially those former Evesham Township School District children okay roll call please this is kapow yes Mrs Everhart yes Mr physicaro yes Mr Kenneth yes Mr Meegan yes Mrs Ryan Yes motion carries okay moving to item 11 policy I need a motion to approve items 11.1 and 11.2 do I have a motion Mr physicaro second Miss Capello any questions or comments pertaining to policy none okay seeing them okay roll call please Mrs Capello yes Mrs Everhart yes Professor Caro yes Mr Katherine yes Mr Meegan yes Mrs Ryan Yes motion carries thank you okay moving to committee reports are there any committee chairs or anyone from the board that
would like to um give a report or share a report I think Yuko as curriculum chair I think you covered pretty extensively the curriculum meeting so thank you for that thank you anyone else okay I have um our community outreach our unfortunately Mr lanzawada couldn't be here today because he's had his own back to school night but he did send ahead a report so I will just read what he sent us for the community outreach Evesham Education Foundation their annual fall cigar dinner Thursday September 29th at 6 PM Marco's restaurant at Indian Springs Country Club 135 dollars per ticket that includes a three-course dinner top shelf open bar for three hours and complimentary cigars you can register online if interested at eveshameducationfoundation.org awesome in conjunction with our ptos and ptas movie night Friday October 7th

not have any new business so now we'll move into open public comment the meeting will now be open to the public referencing any items of Interest however if your questions or comments pertain to litigation student or Personnel items or negotiations we ask that you see the superintendent after the meeting since we do not discuss these matters in public we ask that you limit your comments to three minutes per person and also this section is meant for one comment per person please don't forget to state your name and address for us and the floor is yours good evening Corine halibura 13 Olympia Drive also Rice School Preschool paraprofessional the reason I come here tonight is because I don't know if many of you are aware that Lenape Regional High School has now adopted a policy where
they are hiring power professionals full-time with offering them health care for single coverage only and I wanted to bring it to your attention if you don't already know it because I think it'd be something beneficial Ephesian was able to do that right now we have a lot of paraprofessionals coming in at five and three-quarter hours and it's just not working we're robbing Peter to pay Paul we're trying to get coverage for the arrival and dismissal and it's it's not effective and and it's going to become a safety issue I think if we could have people and offer them even the single coverage and we could extend their hours to six and a quarter which is only a half an hour more it would not leave our classroom short-handed during the day some some Powers leave
at 2 30 some leave at 3 15 and we don't just dismiss until about 3 21 and sometimes in a classroom you could be down a para and someone could have an accident or and you need to tend to that child or a behavior and it leaves a teacher with a number of students and it's just not it's just not sustainable so for efficiency and for safety if you could take a look at it and maybe see if that's something that's possible it would really definitely help out race and maybe the other schools as well because I think a lot of schools are having struggling we can't seem to hire enough people we do have good staff in place if we could just give them more hours I think things would work much better thank
you thank you so much anyone else wish to speak okay Mr Jenks where was yours yeah John Janks again most you know me anyway um 39 Carlton Avenue um I I just wanted to add one item uh that I thought that would be appropriate and that's uh the addition of a performance expectation in the curriculum and that would be um something to the tune of examine how gender dysphoria and transgender lifestyle often results in a deadly decision and that's um that's something that I think is is important I I you can't commit you know minimize the uh the data and the uh there I I do have some other questions though for you um and I'll make I'll try to make these as brief as possible um we'll we'll start with some rhetorical things uh
is gender in children malleable for all children or perhaps said in a different way can you change a child's gender I I'm not going to go into the definition of gender we all know it okay all right so so I'm willing to accept uh those those definitions and and adults can cause uh you know gender changes in children and I think you know we know those answers are yes but um and if adults can change them the question is is should they change the uh gender of children um or the the negative would be should they be barred for changing the gender of children and that's whether they're parents or anyone else uh and I I do have a question though when a child registers for School attendance does the district ask the parent uh
the sex of the child and the gender of the child or both um let's suppose an eighth grader comes in and asks um to be it is is a listed as a male and asked to be called a girl what does the school district do how do they respond and that's also true for anyone who's coming in um you know that those are the questions that I think many of the parents uh in this in the district are concerned about um the school and I think the school should develop a policy for all of its employees that requires that a school district employee not a firm a child's gender different than what the child was first registered as unless they of course have spoken to the parent and that concludes my discussion sort of my
questions here thank you very much and are there any more people willing to speak okay come on up to the microphone hi my name is Jessica Harris 209 Poplar Ave and I am here as a parent of a child with an IEP um we knew my son needed more services from the beginning we did our diligence we enrolled him in private Services during preschool and daycare years coming to a district you know that was part of our consideration when moving that this is such a well-renowned district and a good school system before school even started we requested our emails evals began immediately when March came we were presented with his proposed IEP my son was in kindergarten we paid for a full day instruction because we wanted him to get that additional instructional time we
signed up the first day you could drop off the ballot to get in kindergarten we paid in full the day we got the notice we wanted to make sure he was getting an education March comes and the proposed IEP offered him Services otpt speech academic instructional support 24 hours before the meeting I was given the draft which said in order for him to receive those Services deemed necessary by the child study team we would have to change him to half day program change his home school and move him to rice from mes I don't see how that's equivalent that a child who needs additional instructional Services would have to reduce his instructional time so we were put in that ridiculous predicament as a parent so now do I offer my child these services this resource
teacher but shortened his day do I keep him full day with where he's been acclimited you know he knew Mr Feldman by name he sat with him at dismissal he had all these Services he was already receiving speech noted so we had to decide that for him which I don't think any parent should have to decide especially in the district like ours we should have those services at every home school and it should never be presented to a parent to reduce your child's educational time to receive services first grade came we were given the same option the only place my child could receive in-class support was going to Rice he internalized that he has issues with emotional regulation he didn't wanted to know what he did wrong that he needed to go to a different
School he wanted to know he doesn't see his friends anymore he rides a bus with preschool kids because no one else rides his bus but we wanted him to get those services and a major concerning factor is also when asked the child study team couldn't tell me where second grade will be housed so he may have to go to another school next year and the year after and it's really hard because he's receiving all these Services he builds connections with the staff who was amazing and they're doing everything for my child but that inconsistency for peers social I mean he's in a social building like he gets social skills from the counselor but then he gets a new school every year so I just wanted to raise concern to that that we should really be
offering these Services regardless of where the school is and that we shouldn't be shifting our special Educators all over the district they don't know where they'll be one year from the next how can they support their students and that's pretty much it thank you is there anyone else that wishes to speak come on up to the microphone name and address please I'm Karen Schumacher 56 Lady Diana Circle I'm here I I this is my first meeting I've ever attended so I'm not sure how it works obviously I had questions a couple questions about the busing the limit that two Crown Royals facing now do you guys answer me or do I just put out the questions how it works is you um express your thoughts or concerns and if it's something that we can address
publicly we do but if not usually it's not usual back and forth right I I'm sorry that's okay thank you for asking my concern is when we we I we live on two Crown Royal that area when we received a letter in August about the busing being stopped I was led I I felt through reading the letter that this was going to be a temporary type situation because of the lack of bus drivers and everything that was listed in the latter now I'm doing a little bit of research I found out that back in May this was a specific item that was discussed and about the budget cutting the budget and and to cut the 52 families so my confusion is is this a temporary situation or is this something that's going to like in
our development we're so far 0.6 miles I'm 0.6 miles from the school um Williamsburg and Bill of Royale that's closer to the school they seem to have buzzing from what I've heard through the you know the Grapevine like they're closer to the school so why weren't they made into awkwards where our children are further it's just that I I'm just confused I guess and concerned because it was it has created so much havoc in in everybody's lives in that Circle that I know of that I've spoken to of just trying to shuffle the your work schedule and your um I hear that in the morning there's there's no more room in the um before school program so anybody who's trying to get into that is stuck that's not an option anymore so that's my concerns
I was just hoping that somebody could explain to me what the situation is that's it okay Dr Smith said whole dress it yeah and thank you for your questions um thank you for coming to your first board meeting by the way uh just um and that's we would if anybody is listening that has never come to one before please consider because uh we got a lot of room so um the um and you're right and I you know and I'm glad that you mentioned that the roots of that change go back in time um they actually go back May was when our budget was approved for this coming year and that budget contained lots of you know changes in terms of Staffing but also the transportation changes and those changes we're in there only after
many months prior of discussion you know so we um which included uh conversations with our Township so you know different uh traffic studies that were done looking at what are the changes that lend themselves the safest for us to be able to have more a few more kids walking in an incremental way and a few less kids being bussed and the reason initially that we looked at those changes was budgetary because as many people know but in case anyone doesn't know I'll say uh we are going through seven straight years of funding reduction and that might be because I feel like I'm is that it's a static okay um it could be the it's related to the rain I bet you um seven straight years of budget reduction totaling almost eight million dollars um which
needs to be said is impacting us greater than any other District in in the county um so budgetarily was the first reason we were looking at trying to um have a few more kids walking to school what happened in the meantime during the tail end of the covet phase starting really about a year and a half ago was bus drivers became more and more scarce to the point where last year there were times when um it was challenging to bus all the kids that we say we're going to bus every day and that's a very serious situation you know um we needed to be able to continue to do that and that also means when we can't find drivers we might have to make a transportation change like we did in two neighborhoods rice was
one of them that two Crown Royal neighborhood was one of them last year so I would love to say it would be temporary it's certainly I can what I can say is something we look at all the time what makes it hard to say temporary for is two things the uh the driver shortage isn't getting any better and so and we work on that all the time to try to find more drivers and if there's anyone listening I did have a few people I put a plug in my update from last week and I had a few people respond to that who were interested in wanting to learn more so um but we provide all training and pay for all training and all licensing for drivers it's a great place to learn to drive and
it's a great place to drive and make a difference um etsd but um it's not going to go it's not going to resolve itself anytime soon the driver's shortage some of those neighborhoods in rice that you mentioned the other neighborhoods they might be closer to Rice as the crow flies but for different reasons maybe um a lack of sidewalk for example they currently can't be a walking neighborhood to rice and uh I would anticipate as we move forward to this coming Year's budget the 23-24 budget our district is projected to lose another 931 thousand and state eight in addition to other costs and we are going to have to look again at Transportation changes a few more kids walking a few less kids being bussed for uh next fall you know um and then we
don't want to have to do that but that's just the reality that we inhabit at the moment and um I hope that helps and I'd be glad to talk more too uh after the meeting or any other time are there any other members of the audience that would like to participate in public comment okay seeing none I'm going to close this portion of the meeting are there any comments or questions from the board or announcements I actually have one um I wanted to thank and give a shout out to Rice Elementary School this last week we uh Dr Smith and myself were present for um the new flag being presented to the outside of their building it was so cute the kids were all dressed in red white and blue their new principal was there
it was presented by Veterans of the Korean War one of them is actually the crossing guard in King's Grant he also sang the national anthem so it was just a great day the kids were so happy and the flag is beautiful so I would just like to give a shout out and thank you for the invitation and thank you for organizing that um if there's no other questions or comments okay I'm gonna at this time make a motion to go into our second second executive session whereas the njsa 10-4-12 allows for a public body to go into closed session during a public meeting and whereas the Board of Education of Evesham Township has deemed it necessary to go into closed session to discuss certain matters which are Exempted from the public and whereas the regular
meeting of the board will reconvene following the end of the closed session at approximately 8 45. now therefore be it resolved that the Board of Education will go into session for the following reasons as outlined in njsa 10-4-12 superintendent's contract do I have a motion Mr canthan second Miss Capello thank you roll call please Mrs Capello yes Mrs Everhart yes Mr physicaro yes Mr Canton yes Mr Megan yes Mrs Ryan yes motion carries thank you we will see you all at approximately 8 45 when we reconvene no action will be taken after this executive session foreign [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] um [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] thank you foreign [Music] foreign [Music] thank you
