002received 14 968 votes janice null received 13 474 votes elaine barbara giovanni received 13 459 votes personal choice there was 200 votes so for the three-year terms marianne capela lee ryan and janice null um were the successful candidates who who won position on the board for the one year term we had a one-year unexpired term niece katherine received 563 votes and personal choice was 147 votes so uh anish captain it was this the winner of the one year unexpired term at this time i would ask mr donio to come forward and administer the oath of office to the new board members please good evening everyone uh and a happy new year if i didn't get to say happy new year um my privilege to administer the office to the board members our new board member
003our returning board members just very briefly i want to say first and foremost thank you to everyone who serves on the board of education it is uh as you know i have an educational practice that spans the state represent numerous boards of education i can tell you it really is a thankless job it really is a thankless job it's a lot of nights it's a lot of meetings a lot of time away from family so i thank you and i thank you for doing it because ultimately what you're doing has real effects for children and that's probably one of the most important roles in society that anyone can play is to make sure that we're doing good things for children so i say thank you also say thank you to everyone who runs it's not
004easy to put yourself out there not easy to to go through that process and you know it it really is very trying and um i want to thank you again for you know just putting in the effort to to do so i don't think our board members hear that enough so on behalf of the community i don't happen to live here i have a lot of people who work for me who live here and i can tell you that they say that you do a great job and really it's a really important job so thank you now if we will start with miss capello if you want to come up here i'm going to put this down established in the united states and this state [Music] or disqualified according to the best of my [Applause]

015over the other side okay just briefly i wanted to say that i'm happy that dr smith is being cautious for remaining remote next week it you know i have young kids it's very difficult but i think this is a great decision at this time and i'm hoping things will get better as we move forward and so thank you tough decisions as always sometimes last minutes but i know you're always guided by the data and that's very important and as a parent thank you and of course thanks to all of our teachers who are working double time to serve our students they are still doing a tremendous job and i hope everybody had a restful winter break i i i'd like to piggyback off that for a moment miss noel those are some very insightful words
016um yes i i have to say that i i'd heard something um it was a pundit on on the news uh some researcher was on the news and he was talking about covid19 and he had a phrase that a phrase that has just caught my attention and it's one that i think i'll i'll use myself um you know when they were talking about the vaccinations he said that there was a light at the end of the tunnel but he said immediately after that we're still in the tunnel all right um that that is that is equivalent to us and not just with covid but with many issues that we have to face all right there is a light at the end of the tunnel but we have to remember that there's still a tunnel that
017we have to go through and for for this board which i i am look i'm very humble the amount of respect you have poured to me and to miss everhart this evening um and i'm very appreciative of that support my my advice yes we are my advice my advice to the board and to the public and to everybody um is that we are going to make decisions and i have learned in 2020 that no matter what decision i made it just never felt comfortable nothing ever felt comfortable you you never are going to know whether your decision is going to be the right one or the wrong one whatever you do it's just it's always going to feel like you're on a razor line and i would say as advice to listen to everybody be
018respectful and thoughtful to everybody and to hear people's concerns like you like you have been doing all right sometimes our role is not just as a facilitator or policy makers but sometimes our role is to simply be an ear people need us to tell us what they need to say all right and i will do my best to constantly listen as as board president to your concerns and to everyone's concerns i can't ever guarantee that i will make the best decisions because quite frankly i don't know what they are all right and um i just uh for all of us godspeed on this journey and um i will see everybody on january 28th all right thank you and happy new year uh motion to adjourn does ever heart you have something i just want to
