[music] >> Hello Falcons, Mr. Fleschner here bringing you our update from our May school board meetings. Now, one of the first things you're going to note is we did have a couple of meetings already in May and that happened for a a couple of different reasons. Um, one really pretty sizable agenda for May 18th and lots of end of the year items and things that uh, you know, school board members like to get to and I I'd like to get to to celebrate with our students. So, we opted to split the agenda uh, and kind of take it on in two different parts. But, let's get into the May 18th items. One of the first pieces you're going to notice on this is a budget amendment um, to our FY26 budget. Now, amending budgets is
not necessarily a bad thing. Honestly, can happen pretty much annually. But, one of the biggest reasons and drivers behind this is really some of the facility project work and paying for things um, as we go with that. So, we had to amend the budget. All all good place there. Um, some of the next few items were really just again some final paperwork that go along with bonding funds uh, and getting us ready for our our facility project. Uh, next couple of pieces are some contracts. These are end of the year items that typically do get kind of pushed into May uh, for teacher leadership programs and our Western outreach contracts. We get all those finalized. Uh, we did table a couple of items out of the May 18th agenda. So, a full roofing project on
the Applington building and the resurfacing of the track here at the high school. We've talked about that a couple of different times, I think, over the last couple of months. Um, and really the biggest reason we opted to table this is uh, as many of you may be aware, um, there's been a pretty sizable property tax reform um, finalized with the legislators. Now, there's still lots of questions on how all that goes together yet. But one of the things we do know as a school, uh the penny sales tax that saved dollars are going to be uh calculated differently for school districts going forward. Okay? Um really a decrease in funds, and that's going to help offset some of the property tax um reform work. So, that we needed to really go back and and
fine-tune and get a sharp pencil out to make sure we've got everything put in place um with all that new legislation. So, we opted to table those uh for a couple of days. The last couple of pieces um were some policy kind of clean up items. Uh and then a service agreement um with Central Rivers uh AEA uh for technology support things and some professional development services. And then some final hirings uh really kind of concluded the May 18th board meeting. So, let's jump into May 21st. So, we're able to get a meeting scheduled for on Thursday. Uh some items in here. One through the technology budget. Kelly's working behind the camera today. Um does a great job outlining all these things that kind of keep things moving in classrooms and supporting teachers and students.
Uh so, we talked through what those look like. We did put a request for proposal out to our area banks um to help us with our bond proceeds. Um and the board did act on those as well. And next one is some fees. This is always again an end of the year item. We did maintain our substitute pay. Um it's $130 a day. Um and then set school fees. So, right now there are going to be no increases to school fees. Okay? And there'll be a a minimal increase in lunch, but it's only the adult price. The student fees will stay the same. Something is pretty exciting that we're looking forward to starting the fall with is free breakfast available for all students. So, keep eye out for more information on that. Um but that's
an exciting thing going into the next year. Some again end of the end of the year items getting ready for next year. Um you know, bread bids, dairy bids, those kind of things were approved. Um we put fuel bids on here and did approve. We've worked with Quick Star uh here in Parkersburg, and we've typically uh contracted diesel, but right now, kind of a little bit of volatile a volatility in the market, um we're going to hold off on contracting any of those things ahead. Also looking to put another uh community sharing agreement in place. Um sharing library services or librarian services um with the city of Aplington. Um this still needs to be approved by the city of Aplington, but the school board here at AP has approved that um to share somebody help
with oversight in our libraries. Uh then some end of the year pieces here. Copy release agreement. These are things that cycle through themselves about every uh 5 years or so. And then the board did approve uh moving forward with a re-roofing project for the Aplington building. Um put that proposal out. I think it was total of seven bids that we received. It actually came in under what we were estimating it uh to be. So our our plan and and goal is to have that building um re-roofed this summer, ready to get started in the fall. The board also did approve resurfacing the high school track. Um I had a few people question me, is it going to be red or is it going to be black? Well, the one we're going to put down right
now is going to be black. Um but that's work probably going to get into the fall. Um we're going to have to work around the kind of the football season a little bit. Um but that's the time we had available, and we need to get that resurfaced. Um so that will be done as well. Uh couple of things out here finishing up. Uh shared guidance counselor position. We're going to also share uh Mr. Flanigan. We've done this in the past um with Grundy Center. He's going to be helping out um not only in AP, but also helping out in Grundy Center. And then uh made some assignments for some administrators. Okay, we're going to have some things shifted around a little bit um next year. Again, trying to plan a couple of years ahead it
um I'm with that. So, starting next fall um Emily Williamson, who's currently 3-5, will actually move into a 3 through 6 principal position. And then uh after lots of kind of deliberation and and and discussion, um I'm actually going to take the 7th and 8th graders. So, I'll be spending a lot more time in Applingtin um working with the 7th and 8th grade students in that principal position. And yes, we'll still be taking on all the superintendent things, but um I think long-term it's going to be a really good plan for the district and give us some flexibility as we move forward there. And that really concludes a lot. Okay, but if you as always, if you got questions, don't hesitate to reach out to me. Love to talk to you about the things we've
got going on at school. And as always, go Falcons. >> [music]
