[music] >> Hello Falcons, Mr. Flessner here bringing you our update from our regular June school board meeting. A pretty light agenda this month which can tend to be pretty typical, but let's go let's jump right into the agenda items. So one, we open with a public hearing for our FY26 budget amendment. Now, for those that have really been following along pretty closely like well didn't we already do this? Well, the answer to that is yes, we did. But, really important note. So at the end of the legislative session in Des Moines the legislature finished up some property tax work which also had implications for save dollars which is the state one cent penny. Okay, if you will. Monies that school districts received to take care of things with facilities and those kind of purchases. Well,
all of that was reconfigured at the end of the session and it had a pretty big impact for us here at AP. It really had impact for schools all over the state, but it did here at AP as well. Well, we had not finished our bonding process for our save dollars. So we really had to circle back and and do a lot of paperwork etc. to keep that bond moving forward. Well, part of that was we needed to put some money toward this bond and needed to amend our budget again. So that's what that's all about for those that do follow on closely. So yes, this is an additional amendment that was published in the paper here a couple of weeks ago and we acted on that. Some superintendent notes just really really quick. Um
continuing to to move on with our bonding process. Those funds have been received and we continue to do a lot of facility planning work in the background. We'll start really some things with the the roof in Aplington or on the Aplington building. We'll meet with them later this week and get that on a calendar. Uh looking forward to getting that work started this summer. And as we've shared before, um the high school track will be getting resurfaced as well. That's going to be a really late summer into fall project um just due to scheduling and those kind of things, but we're excited to get uh that going as well. Uh just a couple other things. Some of you that do visit the high school for different events, etc. Done some lighting upgrades uh in some
common spaces. So, in our library, our our lunch room, kind of cafeteria, meeting space uh that a lot of you see when you come to ball games and volleyball games, etc. And then our our auxiliary gym, our small gym, um was all updated with new LED lighting. So, it's kind of a nice refresh to those spaces. Uh and I think you'll notice a difference when you come in and see those. Uh really those are probably the biggest notes I had. Something else I really wanted to share with the board, and I don't necessarily want to go through the entire tire list mostly for fear I might miss somebody, and I don't want to do that. Um you know, we get to this time of the year, uh you know, teachers are gone, students are gone,
uh and you can take a little bit of time to breathe a little bit, even though we've got a lot going on. Uh and I hope all of you that that do take the time to watch this video can take a little time to think back on our school year. So many successes. Okay? Great things happening in classrooms, individual academic successes for students, and then our activity programs. Okay? What a solid season, exciting season for all of our our student athletes, our student participants, our coaches, our sponsors. We had multiple state appearances in athletics. Uh another stellar year in fine arts with all-staters recognized. Um our CTE programs sending kids to national competitions, uh as well as, you know, recently just had a a team championship in livestock evaluation. So, lots and lots of great
things. We know we always areas that we can improve on, but I do hope people take a little bit of time and think through all the different things that were just excellent and and kudos to all of our kids and and teachers and coaches for their efforts this year. Let's jump into some of the agenda action items here quick. So, we talked about the budget amendment. We already knew that needed to happen to continue keep the bonding process moving, keep our facility process moving. Um, so that was taken care of. Also, this time of year, um, there'll be another probably big round after the first July, but just some really legislative policy cleanups that we have here at school. Um, you know, we've got a a pretty sizable policy binder that kind of governs how
our school works. So, there were some cleanup items inside of that. Uh, really then just some some contractual things. Central Rivers, you'll see it on a Zoom. We are going to get a new phone system inside the school district. All right, it's been many many years since that's been updated, so we're having some issues with it. So, it's time to get that refreshed. And and Kelly that's working behind the cameras leading that work uh, to get all new phones uh, set up throughout the school district. Uh, piece on transferring funds. So, if you remember, the funds many year a few years ago used to go straight to the AEA, particularly for stuff like some special ed services. Well, now those funds come to the school district, so you need a mechanism now still to move
money's back and forth to the AEA. So, that's what that agenda item's about. We did purchase some new K-8 guidance curriculum. Really, we're looking at a a more systemic approach to our guidance program through the elementary through the junior high. Okay. So, that's really what that's about. It's been in probably a couple of years in in the conversation to get that moving forward. The last couple of agenda items that are on here, um, the board did act to move to uh help compensate uh some of our coaches that lead our summer work with our student athletes, uh strength conditioning, plyometrics, all those kind of things. You know, we've got 100-plus students that are in and out of here all week. Uh, you know, really just looking to improve themselves, um, which is really kind of
a backbone for all our success in our activities, too. So, that's that piece of agenda item. We are going to replace some flooring here at the high school. Uh, you know, it seems like I know some of y'all say it's kind of new. We have to remember where we're over 15 years into this now. So, it's time to start doing some refreshes on some flooring here at the high school, as well. And then a contract with Taylor Physical Therapy. We are super fort- fortunate to partner with Taylor, um, and have an athletic certified athletic trainer on site, um, for our students and our student athletes and all the various things they do. So, uh Cam, that's been with us all year, did a stellar job. Uh, really excited for the work that she's doing. And
it with that, then there was just some consent agenda items, but things are ending up the school year very, very well. As always, if you've got questions, don't hesitate to reach out to me. I'm I'm here all summer. Uh, would love to have a conversation and visit with you. And as always, go Falcons.
