[applause] All right. Good evening and welcome to our spring band and orchestra concert. Uh my name is Colleen Trust and I teach orchestra here at Euing High School and also at Fiser Middle School. Um we have a really great program for you guys tonight. Um most of our pieces have a theme kind of weaving through them. Um they each um have a theme of something magical or kind of fantasy gets um you know really like Lord of the Rings heavy in the second half even. So um some really cool themes weeding throughout tonight. and we hope you enjoy. Um, the orchestra's first piece this evening will be the overture from A Midsummer Night's Dream. Um, it was a romantic comedy by Shakespeare and a lot of kind of crazy things happen. These characters go into
a magical forest at night. Um, there's mistaken identities. There's like love kind of triangle things happening. Um, someone gets turned into like half a donkey at one point. all these crazy things happen and it's caused by this mysterious kind of like fairies. Um, but by the end of it, they're all convinced it was just a dream and they all go back to sleep. Um, so you're going to hear that represented by different themes in the music. It starts off very calm and peaceful. That's the forest. You hear the mischievous kind of fairy theme. You hear a big exciting love theme. And then by the end, it all just kind of settles down and they're convinced it was all just a crazy dream. Um, so we hope you enjoy overturn. >> [music] [music] >> Heat. [music]
Heat. >> [music] [applause] >> All right, you might recognize um our next piece tonight. It was originally from a ballet uh written by Tchaikovski, but it was later used um in the Disney movie Sleeping Beauty. Um, so it is uh the movie uses a lot of music from the ballet as part of like the soundtrack. Um, this is like very peak like romantic era music. Um, a lot of dramatic dynamic changes, different articulations. Um, and just a really beautiful mushy melody that's going to kind of get stuck in your head. Um, and just another fun fact, um, today is Shakovsky's birthday. So, happy birthday, Chaikovski. Um, and we hope you enjoy the walts from Sleeping Beauty. >> [music] [music] >> Are you [music] glory? >> [music] >> How are you? >> [music] [applause] >> All
right, our next piece slows things down a lot. Um, it is a slower lyrical piece. Um, it was written by the composer and dedicated to, um, a music educator who had passed away before it was written. Her name was Miss Dor Stro. Um, and the title is explained in the program notes. Um the folks who knew her described, you know, when you're uh with her, it was like you're in the company of an angel. So it was kind of like a play on words there. Um it kind of represents uh two parts of kind of like what you would experience with grief. Like the beginning is very um somber and slow, kind of like the really sad part. Um and then the second half it brightens up a little bit. It's a little more of
um reflecting on like the good times, the happy memories. Um, so it's a program piece kind of in that way. Um, we hope you enjoy um, In the Company of Angels. Heat. Heat. children. Amen. >> [music] [music] [applause] >> All right, we have one more piece for you, but at this point before we get to our our last piece, um we need to take a moment to acknowledge um our amazing seniors who are on stage. Um so we have on stage here we have Harley, Diana, Ava, Kim, Alyssa, Grayson, Chris, and Morgan who are seniors and orchestra. a round of applause for [applause] them. [applause] Um, so I've had the pleasure of working with these students since they were in sixth grade and like in a weird way they're like stuck as sixth graders in
my mind. Like um just they all kind of look the same. I don't know. Um but just um it's been really actually amazing to see them grow as musicians, as people um over all this time. And I whenever we get to this point, I try to think of like what makes me um think like what makes each senior class like really unique. Um and for this class um we had unfortunately we had co in the middle of our time together. Um was like seventh grade and came back in eighth grade. Um and I just really appreciate how when they came back from that weird year, it was like just ready to go. Let's try everything. Let's get back to it. Um and they're just really ready to make the most of their eighth grade experience,
their high school experience. Try a bunch of new things. Um Um, you know, there was like we were like had to do orchestra outside. They were like, "Sure, okay." Um, I was like, "Do you guys want to go play Christmas music at the mall?" They're like, "Yeah, okay." Um, so all these crazy things it was on board with and I appreciate it. Um, I really also appreciate their patients and all their patients. Um, when I was on leave last year, um, their subs loved them, just loved them so much. Um, so appreciate their patience, you know, during that big life transition for me. Um, and they just really brought great enthusiasm and like spirit to our program. Um, and I know the underassman and myself are going to miss them a lot. Um, but it's
kind of hard to be sad if you know you're going to go on and do so many like awesome things. So, we're sad to be losing you guys, but we're excited for what you're going to do. Um, parents of seniors, um, if you could, you know, drop the secret parenting manual because they came out amazing. I'd love to know how you did it. Um, just I know you have one. Just like share it with me, please. Um, let me know um, how to get those results. But, um, one more time for our seniors. Congratulations. [applause] Woo! Okay. Hi everyone. We are the senior class of 2026. Alyssa, Ava, Harley, Chris, Diana, Grayson, Morgan, and I, aka the goats. We just wanted to take this moment to show our appreciation to our amazing teacher, Mrs. Tr,
but we will always know her and refer to her as Miss Fairy. We have had Miss Fairy as our music teacher since we were all in sixth grade, which is really crazy. She has watched us all grow from silly little middle school kids to young adults graduating in a month and a half and embarking on our new chapters of life. It is safe to say that because of her, we grew our skills and playing ability to what it is today. With her, we grew our passion for music and learned so much. Not only did she watch us grow into people we are today, we grew up with her, too. We watched her get married and have her amazing daughter, Ava, and we cannot be more [clears throat] proud of seeing all of her accomplishments in
addition to being an outstanding mentor. Together as a class, we experienced so much together. The long rehearsals, the inside jokes, the crazy field trip stories. So much of it is what makes the orchestra so special for all of us in it. As our musical journey comes to an end, we owe it all to you, Miss Carrie. Your kindness, humor, and leadership allowed us all to thrive. The memories we had in the orchestra are ones we will never forget, and it's all because of you. We will miss you so much when we all graduate. And to the underassman, keep playing amazing music and share your passion of performing to others. We cannot wait to see what you accomplish. And like our fellow senior Chris has said, and we now quote, "Just put your finger on the
music on the note and play." Thank you. [applause] [applause] These are our seniors. I really appreciate their work and um working with them all these years. Um I almost forgot to announce our last piece. Um our last piece uh is incantations. And this again goes along with our theme of fantasy and magic. Um fantasy and magic. Um in this case like a really dark and evil kind of magic is kind of happening, right? Um and so incantations it can think of like chance being spoken, maybe a little bit of voodoo kind of thing. Um and we hear that first theme or maybe it's like a spell being cast at the beginning. Um, you hear it kind of quietly and it comes back very loud and strong at the end. Um, it's a really fun and
challenging It's challenging piece. Um, but they really stepped up to it. It's a lot of fun to play. I'm saying fun. No one wants to do it. Um, I think it's a lot of fun. Um, it all begins with a solo which will be performed by Morgan, Chelsea, Ava, and Kim up front here. Um, we hope you enjoy this portion of the concert. Um, following this will be our senior string quartet. Hallelujah. [music] Hey, are you Where are you? Hallelujah. >> [applause] [applause] >> Okay. Um, at this time we're going to bring out um our next ensemble, which was kind of part of the last group, but they're have their entrance. Um this ensemble uh the senior string quartet, it is totally student formed. This was all their idea. Uh student form, student rehearsed um
by some of our amazing seniors. They're going to be playing boxenberg curto number two in a bridged version. Um so any music by Boach for strings is famously hard. It's kind of like a right of passage thing to play as a string player. Um so it's going to be a really great piece. Um quartets work without a conductor. They communicate instead using um cues with like their body language, gestures, kind of like musical things. Um so we're gonna bring out our senior string quartet. We'll give him a hand. Yay. [applause] Chamber musicians. They they work without a conductor. So I'll I'll get out of here in a sec. Let them go to get started. Um following the performance of our senior string quartet, um we're gonna hear from our tempo president um who's gonna talk
to some of the parents if that's okay. Um yes. Okay. Um and then we'll have a brief intermission before we bring out the concert band. So um when they're all ready, here is our senior string quartet. [applause] Louder and down. Hallelujah. >> [applause] [applause] >> I don't have a Hallelujah. What about you? >> [applause] [applause] >> Heat. [music] Hey, heat. Hey, heat. Heat. Heat. [music] [music] Heat. Heat. [music] Heat. Heat. [music] Yeah. [music] [music] Heat. [music] >> [music] >> Oh, [music] Jesus. [music] Oh, [music] down. [music] Heat. [music] Heat. [music] Heat [music] up [music] here. [music] Heat. [music] Heat. [music] >> [music] [applause] >> Thank you all so much and thank you all for coming out this evening. My name is Jason Price. I'm the band director here at UI High School. I want to
first thank uh Mr. M and the Corral for joining us for our first piece this evening. [applause] Thank you. Appreciate it. So, our first piece, as you can see in the program, was entitled Procession of the Sorcerers. And that kind of gets us set up for a a program of magical music. We'll be diving into the fairy world and the world of Lord of the Rings, a personal favorite uh novel of mine. But Procession of the Sorcerers kind of gets you into the mindset of these magical beings entering a space. So, uh we're going to continue with that and we're going to go to our next piece which is entitled Fairy Wisps. And just be careful. We might just get brought into the world of the fairies ourselves. >> [music] [music] >> Heat. Heat. Heat.
[music] Heat. Heat. Heat. [music] Heat. Heat. [music] Heat. [music] Heat. >> [music] [music] >> Heat. [music] Heat. [music] Heat. Heat. [music] [music] Heat. [music] [music] Heat. Heat. Heat. [music] [music] >> [music] >> Heat. [music] [music] [applause] Heat. >> [applause] [applause] >> All right. Thank you very much. I think uh you can see the theme here is very programmatic which means there's you a story to tell that is an actual story that's been written or a story that just the imagery just kind of appears to you. And I think with that last piece to me, I just can see the adventure unfold from the pristine beginning to the adventurous be uh middle and then a great climax at the end. So our next piece is a song that was written for the movie The Fellowship of
the Rings um out of the trilogy. And what's really cool that I find about Tolken is he was a linguist first. He was really into languages which he studied ancient languages, modern languages and then when he was young decided to create his own language which was Elvish. So this piece actually features a couple Elvish phrases out of his legendarium and they are mourn utilier which means darkness has come and mourn Alanteier which means darkness has fallen. And this piece, May it Be, is about staying true to your heart through hard and dark times. So here it is. May it be in, which will feature Haley Petrushe on vocals. [applause] Shines bright. >> [music] >> My Wonderful. [music] Our love [music] [music] may The shadows [singing] will fly. [singing] May it be a journey to [music]
[singing] the day. And when the [music] light is overcome, you may rise [music] to bright. [music] And we [music] will [singing] fight [music] our [music] [music] alone. >> [music] [music] [applause] >> Thank you. Thank you so much. Before [clears throat] our final uh selection, I want to pressure and get ready to go. I want to do all our thank yous. Um I want to thank Mr. Brock Mizlin, who is our co uh fine arts coordinator for being here this evening. our one of our assistant principles, Miss uh Jared. Um Dr. Bogus for being here this evening. Um I want to thank Miss Jen Venudi for doing our sound and lights back there. Uh it really look beautiful. Thank you so much. Um I also want to thank our custodial staff for getting and helping getting
the stage ready to go backstage all the rooms. Uh really so much great work for those guys and really appreciate it. Um, and never like to forget, thank all of you so much for supporting your your children in what they do up here. It's so I use I'll say magical to go with the theme of the evening. It's really awesome getting to work with all of them uh every every day and making music with them. It's really awesome. So, thank you for supporting them in that along their whole journey. Um, and I'm gonna turn my back to you for a sec. I want to thank all of you always for your hard work and dedication to what we do, especially our seniors tonight. So, seniors, could you stand up really quickly just to be recognized?
[applause] [cheering] [applause] >> As you can see, it's a very large group. Very, very large group. So, and they have been awesome along the whole way. um all four years they've been up here. Um I this is my fifth year and they've at the high school and they've really been pivotal to what we've been creating up here in their time that we've been working together and I really appreciate it all. It's awesome. You guys rock. So rock on. Okay. And let's do one more. Okay. Um so our final piece is you can sit. [applause] Our final piece is a s an arrangement of a symphony written by Johan Demeage. He was a German composer is a German composer. Uh he wrote this in the 80s based off of his reading of the novel The Lord
of the Rings. So it's not based it wasn't part of the movie at all, but um it's a really epic journey through the world of Tolken and uh we're really excited to perform for you. 022[music] Heat. [music] [cheering] All >> [applause] [applause] [cheering] [applause] >> right. Thank you all so much for coming along on our magical journey this evening and we've got bunch more coming for the end of the year, graduation and all that, but thank you so much for again coming out supporting all of your students in what we do up here and I really really appreciate it all. So, thank you so much and that [applause] is everybody sit down. Don't leave just yet. I have a few things I'd like to say for Mr. Price. I've had you since fourth grade and uh without you, I don't think I'd be here today. Um the amount of opportunities you've given me has been awesome and you've really like grown my passion for music and I can't thank you enough
for that because without you I wouldn't have all the things that I have today. So, thank you for everything you've done for me. [applause] Mr. Price, you have known some of us since elementary school, others you met in middle school, and even a few in high school. But we all share that same love of having you as our music teacher. You have taught us so much of your skill that we couldn't have learned anywhere else. You have given us all an amazing gift, and it's only right to return the favor and say thank you. The class of 2026 as a whole wanted to give you a gift that you would remember forever. [applause] >> Oh, cool. >> [applause] [laughter] [applause] >> We have a couple more words we'd like to say for Mr. Press. >>
Uh, I'll keep it short because we're going to pass it around, but I want to thank you so much. Without you, I wouldn't have decided to keep doing music in college and I couldn't have done my portfolio without you. And I'm so thankful for the time that you took to help me. And I'm so grateful for all the opportunities you've helped me to find. [applause] Thank um I just want to say thank you for all the effort you put in to us. Like hours in your office, different songs, different arrangements, you write your own pieces just for our instruments. I just want to say we see it and we love you. We really appreciate it. You too. [applause] >> Uh this is kind of, you know, off the top of my head, but I would
say you more this year more so than any other year, you kind of made me expect more of myself and of others, and I really do appreciate that. And I think I've grown a lot this year, and you have instilled a passion in music for me probably for life. [applause] Um, I just want to say a few things. So, when I was first coming to high school, I really didn't know what to expect. But that first week of band camp, um, that was an experience that I will always remember throughout the rest of my life. And it really brought me into the high school experience and allowed me to carry it through the rest of high school. It it really brought me into band and being here today and playing this music. Even if this
is my last concert, I'll enjoy it and I'll remember it forever. [applause] Hello, Mr. Cry. Okay. Um, I just want to thank you for everything. Like, band was something that, to keep it real, I was not going to do in high school, but you fought so hard to keep me on my tenor. So that's, you know, I'm making it now. But I wouldn't trade this experience for anything. Like Mr. Price, you made it so easy. Like you made, you know, I know the true meaning of music. Like, and it's not just to sit and play your instrument. It's emotion that you have to feel. And I really think that you helped me through that even when I was going through stuff myself. So I really thank you for that and I appreciate you. And every
lesson that you taught me will be carried on with me throughout my life. And we just thank you and we love you so much. So rock. [applause] Um, honestly, I feel like everyone else said everything so well over me. I feel like there's really nothing more to add. But I just want to say thank you because going into like band camp in like March, like freshman year, I had no idea what to expect. I honestly thought I wouldn't like it, but it ended up being like the most enjoyable thing I've probably done throughout high school. And it really gave me a community to expand my love of music and grow. And that space was entirely fostered because of you. And you know, I like to all the opportunities you've given and everything you've done to
make this program as big as it is. Like there's so many of us and um we're all so grateful for you and we love you so much. Thank you. [applause] [laughter] >> Uh I just wanted to thank you through all high school. I didn't know what to expect through high school and through all the tough times, music really helped. I didn't expect to stay in band since fourth grade, but I did because music helped a lot. So, I want to say thank you and it's really it. So, thank you, [applause] Mr. Price. Okay, I'm going to keep this short and sweet, but I want to thank you for the opportunity you gave me to come back to what I've been usually playing. Um, I remember elementary school, like I didn't really get a feel for
it, but you helped me out through and through. And even in marching band where we just goof around and fool around. You made me feel more comfortable in an atmosphere that I was able to feel comfortable. So, I want to thank you very much. [applause] Thank you all so much. You really all do mean so much. I mean, you all worked so hard and shown your dedication and your passion and we've had a lot of fun all the whole way, ups, downs, hard stuff, all of it. It's been it's been so much fun to work with you all and I really appreciate all of you and everything you've had to say tonight. Thanks. But it's Thank you for being you and good luck in all the things you're going to do moving forward. You You'll
be missed here for sure, 100%. Thank you. [applause] Thank you. [applause] All right. These are beautiful. Thank you. All right, everybody. Thank you so much. Please be safe getting home. [applause]
