Excuse me, ladies and gentlemen. We're not starting yet, but there is a cell phone someone found outside. So, if anybody's missing their phone, it is nicer than my phone. So, I have no problem taking it home today. But if anyone is missing a cell phone, I do have one up here for you. So, the gentleman going up the aisle Yeah. Oh my god. Oh my god. All right. [Music] Good evening everybody. Good evening. Thank you so much for coming out to our third annual jazz appreciation month spring jazz concert. It's a lot of words. Um featuring our Fischer Middle School stage band and the new high school jazz band. So for a number of years, Mr. Silio and I had been talking about getting this concert going. And three years ago, we were able to
finally coalesce everything to get this going. And our first concert was jazz through the decades where uh we just bounced back and forth going through from the 1920s up through the '7s. We kind of keep that same spirit over the last two years, but we've expanded and just kind of changed certain things up, but we still go through a variety of jazz styles and uh decades. uh through jazz history. So, uh we're going to start us off this evening over on the high school side. Um this year I've kind of geared a lot of our repertoire towards a bit more modern repertoire um with a few of the classics mingled in there as well. So, we're going to start off with a tune called Get After It, which is going to feature our guitarist, the
senior guitarist, Emma. So sit back, enjoy, and we'll be bouncing back and forth all night. And uh we'll see you at the end. Thanks. [Applause] [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] [Applause] Heat. [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] Heat. [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] [Applause] [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] All right. [Applause] Heat. Heat. [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Mr. So here, thank you. Mr. Price is here for the high school jazz [Music] band. So Mr. Price won the coins to uh the coin toss, so he got to go first. So now it's my turn. So we have uh the Fisher Middle School stage man here for you tonight. And the first song we're going to play is called Work Song. And it's a composition by Matt Adly for his brother Cannibal Adley's band. Hope you enjoy it. [Music]
Heat. Heat. [Applause] Heat. [Music] Heat. Heat. Heat. [Music] Heat. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Heat. Heat. [Music] Heat. Heat. All [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] right, nice job over there. Sounded great. All right, for our next selection, we're going to bring up one of our vocalists, uh, Miss Ayanna Robinson. You have some fans over here. This song is also going to feature uh, one of our uh, tener players, Mr. Elias Martinez. [Applause] So, we're going to do a Duke Allison tune. Uh, the title Do Nothing So You hear from me. Do nothing till you hear from me. Pay no attention to what people see on anyone's dream is over. [Music] You should take the words of all the you true life and see with someone new. What does that mean? I'm true. The words in my
heart reveal how I feel. Some kiss my memory. And may we hold a [Music] [Applause] th Heat. Heat. [Music] [Applause] True. That I'm untrue when we're aart. The world in my heart. Reveal how I feel. So kiss me my glory. And our hearts may hold your mouth until you hear it from me. And you never will. Until you hear it from me. And you never will. All [Applause] right. Excuse me. Thank you so much. Okay, we're going to stay over on the high school side for one more tune before we throw it back over to the middle school. Um, our next tune is a another contemporary arrangement. It's called 727 South Broad Street. And what's really cool about this tune is it utilizes a style that we don't usually hear too much um in mainstream,
but it's called Second Line. Second Line is a style of music from New Orleans. And what it is a part of is at a funeral, I'm going to get a little sorry funeral if you first have the Jurge. So a slow reflective music that is in front of the family and then you have the family and then behind the family you have the second line which is the celebration of life and it has this more upbeat uh kind of push to to the music. So this song utilizes that style of second line as well as swing. So, this is going to feature our Barry player, Kendall Romanowski. And here's 727 South Broad Street. [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] [Applause] [Music] Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. [Music] Heat. [Music] [Applause] [Music] Hey, hey, Heat. Heat. [Music] [Applause] [Music]
Heat. Heat. [Music] [Applause] [Music] Heat. [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] [Applause] Mr. Piano. Thank you so much. You're very welcome. Next song we're going to play for you is called Stolen Moments. It's Oliver Nelson tune from one of my favorite albums of all time, Blues in the Abstract Truth. If you ever get a chance to check it out, it's really on heavy rotation. my house and it's one of my favorite records of all time and when I have the right ensemble I always pull this one out for them. So this is called Stolen Moments. [Music] Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. [Music] Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. [Music] [Applause] Heat. Heat. [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] Heat. [Music] [Applause] Heat. Heat. [Music] [Applause] [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] Heat. [Music] [Applause] Heat. Heat. [Applause] This is like
a really fancy game of pingpong with the music. Okay. Um, so the high school is going to perform uh a piece of music now that is from a larger work uh called the Cuban Fire Suite. This was written by Johnny Mercer for the Stan Kettton band. The San Kenton band was a progressive jazz band in the 1960s and '7s and um this is just one small portion of it. This is called Ricquardos and it's going to feature a few soloists. It's going to feature our alto player Joel Torres. It's going to feature uh Joe Parsons on trumpet and also Isaiah Robinson on trombone. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] Heat. [Applause] [Music] Heat. [Music] Heat. Hey. Hey. Hey. Heat. Heat. [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] [Applause] Heat. Heat. [Music] Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. [Music] [Applause] Oh, hey. Hallelujah.
Hallelujah. [Music] [Applause] [Music] Heat. Heat. Check the walls. Check [Applause] our Ayana one more time for you. [Applause] So, we're going to throw it really, really far back and we're going to uh do a Gershwin tune entitled Summertime. Summertime is a part of a larger piece of uh music for Porgi and Best. It was a a musical and we're going to do a modern spin on it. and we're going to take it from a classic swing into a bit of a funk for you. So, here is our uh updated arrangement of Summertime by Ira George, sorry. And I and I [Music] Summer [Music] time. Easy fish in the country. [Music] for your darling rich. [Music] One of these morning you going to rise up sing. Then you spread your wings and you'll take to the
sky. till the morning [Music] you daddy and Mary standing in my [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] Summer is easy. [Music] picture when the cry is [Music] high. Oh my daddy. [Music] Little baby, don't you cry. Don't you know that I can just [Music] [Applause] And Martinez, you're up. Thank you. Okay, we're back up and the first song we're going to play for you now is called Haven't Met You Yet. Uh you guys may know it as a Michael Blue tune, but we're going to have Avery sing it tonight. So, hope you guys enjoy. [Applause] [Music] I'm not surprised. Not everything lasts. I broken my heart so many times. I trapped myself in. I talked myself out. I put it all up. I tried so very hard not to lose it. I came up
with a million. I thought I thought of every possibility. And I know someday it'll all turn out. You make me work. So you work to work it out. I promise you that I'll give so much more than I get. I just haven't met you yet. I'll never give up. I tiny wherever you are and bright. I know that we can be so amazing. And baby, your love is going to change. And now I can see that we [Music] possibly they say oh there in love I want to fire you by you. [Music] I know that we can be so amazing and being in your life is going to change. And now I can see every single [Music] possibility. And I know it'll all turn out and I'll work it out. I promise you, kid. I'll
get more I get I get I get I get you [Music] know you make me work so you work it out and I promise you get so much more than I haven't met you yet. I [Music] just I [Music] said I just met [Music] you. I just haven't met you yet. [Music] [Applause] Congratulations. All right, we are going to slow it down and we're going to play a ballad for you uh titled To You. It's by Thaad written by Thaad Jones and and he wrote it for his big big band which was another big band of the uh uh like 70s early 80s and it's almost coral in how it's written the the chords and how they move through the piece and very lyrical and this is going to feature our senior trombonist Mr. Lassie
Sumo who's going to come up. All right. So, here is to you. [Music] Hello. Hallelujah. Hallelujah. [Music] Ever heaven? [Music] 4. Hallelujah. [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] Heat. Heat. [Applause] [Music] Come home. [Music] Mr. [Applause] President, we have one more vocal chart for you and we're going to bring up our junior tener player, Alex Newberger. She's going to sing for [Applause] us She's going to sing for us a great big band uh chart called How High the Moon. So, here is that with Alex. [Music] There's music, how faint the heaven, how high the moon, there is no moon above. When love is far away [Music] too, till it comes true. That you'll love me as I love you. Somewhere there's music. It's where you are. There's heaven. How near how far the darkest night would shine
if you would come to me soon until you still [Music] [Applause] [Music] by moving up. Somewhere there's music, it's where you are. Where there's heaven, how near aart the darkest night would shine if you would come to be until you will. How hallelujah. [Music] [Applause] Back to you. Okay, we have two coming up for you. Uh, first one we're going to play for you is called Cantaloupe Island. And this is a Herby Hancock chart that he actually recorded twice, but our version's uh the second recording. And on the flip side, we like to see everybody that's working so hard down the middle school and eventually come up and be working with us. And it's great for these guys to see like where they started, came from, and worked their way up. So, all around this is just such a really fun and exciting event to be part of. I have to tell you, it kind of scared them a little bit. They heard their songs, they're like, "Oh my goodness, we have to play that kind of stuff." But they're going to be ready.
