e e e [Applause] good evening everyone good evening everybody good evening that's right I do the same thing with them uh I want to welcome you all to this evening's concert of our orchestra band and Symphony Orchestra my name is Mr Jason price I'm the band director here and next to me here is Mrs conen trash our Orchestra our Orchestra director um before we begin uh we before we begin the program tonight we want to acknowledge the passing of one of our our former music colleagues Mr Blair hson wow now I'm shaking he taught ban and Orchestra at the high school before us from 1993 to 2021 and would later go on to teach at lore and then retire in 2023 he was recognized as EHS teacher of the year in 2013 and received the

0022012 Grammy signature schools Enterprise award on behalf of Ying High School Blair was an accomplished musician himself and we loved working with him and playing alongside him whenever we had the opportunity aside from all of his accomplishments Clair was an extremely kind and warm person who cared deeply about his students and co-workers we thank him for his dedication to music program in ying and for making sure we have a music program to continue for many years to come so uh with that being said we like to dedicate this performance this evening to the memory of Mr D Blair Olen and I'm going to turn it over to Mrs TR to begin our program all right good evening um so again I'm Colleen TR I teach Orchestra at both fiser middle school and new high school

um and like Mr Price said um we just really want to thank Mr Olen for everything he's done for our program it wouldn't be here without him so we have a lot to thank him for and we would like to dedicate tonight him um our first piece this evening is going to be um for the star of County down it's a collection of Irish folk songs um it starts off with like a slow introduction turns over into like an upbeat song that was like used to like s while you're traveling like a long journey the next song you hear is a slow ballad and this one is called for the star County down in this case um the star is a woman so it's like a love song for my star um and the third

the final song is a really upbeat and fast jig or real like an upbeat Irish style um piece of music so we hope you enjoy [Music] for [Music] the [Music] the [Music] for [Music] l [Music] the [Music] for [Music] [Applause] thank you our next piece is called she will hang the night with stars um the title is a quote from an Oscar wild poem um and this piece was commissioned by and uh dedicated to um an orchestra director out in um Marquette Michigan uh Janice Peterson so her school commissioned it dedicated to it uh to her which is really nice um it's just a really beautiful and lyrical piece that will showcase the orchestra's ability to play um very lyrical um in a lyrical and expressive Style for [Music] h [Music] I [Music] h [Music]

oh [Music] the [Music] the [Music] h [Music] you okay our next piece is going to feel much different um it is called lacra and it is uh lacra is a kind of Rhythm that you hear in Afro Cuban music um for example like salsa and lacra literally just means um the shell it's referred to playing the outside of the shell of a of a um timbal which we'll have back here with our percussionists um so this piece is challenges with like really moving rhythms challenging rhythms bow kind of stuff um for the upper strings and for all the strings and there's going to be like a brief shallow feature on this piece also features some of our percussionist from concert band um Eric green will Simon Lauren Harris and Justin trios um so thank you

to them for joining us and rehearsing with us um and to Mr price for helping us make sure we had the percussion element for this piece okay so this is a lasas for [Music] e [Music] l [Music] e [Music] the [Music] the [Music] you [Applause] all right um the orchestra's final piece is going to be it's called Inno and it's an arrangement of winter from the Four Seasons By Baldi um you've heard this piece somewhere like on TV like in a commercial for something um it's used all the time and the composer um really wanted to succeeded in painting several like just images of winter so at first we hear like this kind of like cold harsh like shivering kind of sound like kind of like tonight and then in the middle of the piece

you hear like the nice part of winter um it gets a little like Cozier kind of like warmer sounding in the middle then we get back to that like chilly kind of like literally the strings playing fast it's like supposed to be like the Shivering it's the cold outside so we hope you enjoy um winter from the Four Seasons in barau um after this we'll have a brief transition to bring out uh the concert band thank [Music] you [Music] e e [Music] [Applause] [Music] n e [Music] [Applause] for for for w okay [Applause] see hi again everyone uh while the the band is finishing getting out on stage and getting all set and ready uh I just want to make a quick announcement from our Tempo which is our parent organization that helps to uh

support our entire music program up here at Ying um so Tempo the uing music parent organization would like to thank everyone for their support throughout The Fall season we had one of our best fall fundraisers since before Co that was the pie fundraiser so thank you all for uh getting those pies sold and we hope everybody enjoyed them at Thanksgiving we will be seeking volunteers and donations for our planned April Coffee House event that will feature performances from our outstanding musicians from all uh facets of our program band Orchestra and choir so uh be uh looking out out for emails and if you are ever uh wanting to help support us in those any events from fall through the winter and then into the spring uh please reach out to our uh Tempo through our

email Ying Tempo gmail.com and we would really appreciate any help and time that you can can offer uh I'm just going to turn around see if we're all good to go all right um progressions finishing resetting some things on that note our winter program put this down uh for band I usually gear towards classic band repertoire so music that uh kind of brought band and coner band Wind Ensemble into the classical World realm in the early 1900s and through uh two modern times uh so we each piece is something that I feel that they should perect form before they graduate uh after four years of playing in the high school Ensemble that being said the first piece we're going to perform is just for our percussionists usually in this classic rep they don't get too

much to do because uh early pieces did not include a ton of percussion parts so in order for them to keep their skills up and uh not have Idle Hands back there uh uh we're going to be performing a piece called Avalanche and then we'll dive into the rest of to our program so here's our procussion Ensemble with [Applause] Avalanche [Music] for e [Music] e [Music] [Applause] [Music] all right thanks so much how about one more hand for our procussion section back there our first piece is a March now when we hear March we usually think of parades things like that but a lot of marches in the early 1900s l 1800s were intended for dances uh they were Fox trots and this March castles in Europe was written by a man named James ree

Europe James ree Europe was the first African-American leader of the Army Band during World War One of the army bands during World War I um so it would be fight he took his band over to Europe would be fighting during the day and then entertaining the rest of the troops at their nighttime events um and he was the composer and band leader for the castles who were the inventors of the fox TR during the early 1900s so here is castles in Europe by James Rees Europe la [Music] la a [Music] to the [Music] [Applause] thank you so much our next election is entitled three airs from Gloucester so this piece is in three movements so please hold your applause to the very end there'll be short little breaks in between each movement um but this

piece is written based off of the composers fascination with a couplet a poem from the 10th Century that reads there is no one quite so cely as the Jolly Earl of Chumley so here is three airs from glosser [Music] la a a h [Music] all a h [Music] h [Music] h [Music] [Applause] so always McKenzie our two uh [Applause] soless like you had to do it okay our next piece is really an exercise in just creating beautiful music and really it focuses on control and it starts out and for a long time we'll just stay quiet and bring you along on this journey and then eventually we'll build up into this climactic moment and then bring us back down so it's just a moment for us to enjoy some beautiful music no program no story

just music for music's sake so here is Adagio [Music] oh the a [Applause] [Music] [Applause] all [Music] [Applause] thank you so very much our final piece for this evening is a piece entitled EST Stompy uh EST Stompy is an old 13th 14th century French word which meant ReSound and what that meant at that time was a piece of music that was being played would each section be repeated like for a dance or something like that in this modern interpretation the composer takes ReSound and uses repeated notes and repeated rhythms throughout the piece they be uh this piece is very cinematic in its uh makeup think you can imagine movie scenes and things like that that would go along with the different sections the beginning and end are very bombastic and aggressive the middle is very

romantic so please come along on this journey with us through a stomping thank you so much [Music] la [Music] la [Music] la [Music] la [Music] all [Music] all [Music] la [Applause] [Music] la [Music] a [Music] sh [Music] la [Music] [Applause] w [Applause] thank you so much we just need a few moments to change a few things up for S Symphony Orchestra and we'll be real quick and right back with you thank you so very much for coming out this w another e for [Applause] all right so um coming on stage now is our chamber orchestra um before they play I'm going to take care of a lot of different thank yous but um and give them some time to finish setting up um so a lot of people to thank to make our concerts possible

the first people I like to thank um are our Billy administrators um many who are here tonight um Miss Zabo Miss Jarrett and our dean of students Mr coward and Mr sheffel um we'd like to thank our district admin um Mr mlin is here tonight my supervisor our superintendent Dr Gentile and assistant superintendent Dr bogus uh we'd like to thank the board of education for their support um thank you to Tempo our music parents Organization for all they do they're the ones doing the candy grams they um work on our banquet at the end of the year um so thank you to them for all their hard work um thank you to Neil Ben and the rest of our consal team at uh the high school here they are a huge help when it comes

to setting up all of this the percussion the chairs the stands and making sure our space looks really great for concert nights like this um and finally thank you to our students and to you all for being here tonight their family and their friends um thank you for all your support tonight and also throughout the year so round of applause for yourself for the students all right and now um the first song that chamber is going to play um and by the way chamber orchestra just means a smaller Orchestra so you noticed the orchestra has shrunk from before um so just means a smaller Orchestra they're going to be playing Hungarian Dance number five by Johannes Broms it's another um example of a classical piece that you've heard you're going to recognize it you just

don't know why um it's just like used in a lot of different places and it's a really fun exciting piece it has a lot of moments where it stops and starts again like some pauses and it resumes um but we'll make sure you know when it's over for sure so this is Hungarian Dance number five your [Music] n [Music] l [Music] [Applause] all right so we're going to have a brief um transition while we bring out um the rest of our symphony orchestra group so our chamber orchestra serves as our string section um and then we will also be joined by members of the concert band who together make our symphony orchestra if you went to fiser or know any students at fer similar to our honor Symphony program we're trying to kind of continue

that here except we do it after school so um props to these students for spending time here after school we meet Thursdays at night um it's been a lot of fun working with them they're very different at night than in the morning very like energetic um so just um like props to them for giving the extra time and rehearsal time towards these pieces um the first piece the combined symphony is going to perform um comes from very's Opera AA it's set in ancient Egypt and the scene that we're hearing the music from um there's like an army returning from war and it's like a parade of officers and royalty it's just a very um big spectacle like a kind of like a Fanfare sound um in the Opera like in the stage version they um

like have like a huge set piece there's like is on stage like a whole parade um so I can just picture like big Royal Parade kind of like big entrance um so this is the grand March from AA for for l [Music] a the a to [Music] l a [Music] the [Music] [Applause] okay our final piece this evening is respect as performed by the queen of soul artha Franklin um in this Arrangement you're going to hear um a saxophone solo performed by by Kendall Roman El so just a little bit more about this piece um when artha Frank this isn't um she covered it kind of put her own spin on it um there are changes made to the original lyrics um to kind of include commentary on women's roles um gender roles like in

their relationships things like that and would become kind of like a feminist anthem at one point um it consistently ranked the top of like like most popular songs of all time even in like the 2020s it's still kind of up there um so long story short I think we all know the song I hope you enjoy um our arrangement of respect bya Franklin [Applause] [Music] you [Music] la [Music] [Applause] [Music] la [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] la [Music] [Applause] [Music] thank you again to um all of our students for their hard work thank you for being here and supporting us um throughout the year and especially on our concert night um thank you [Applause]
