e e e good evening hello everyone good evening I'm Mrs Lan I'm one of the assistant principles here at uen high school I'm so excited to welcome you to our spring instrumental concert I can tell you I stuck into a rehearsal earlier this week and our students Miss TR and Mr Price have an amazing show prepared for you this evening let's all take a moment please and silence your cell phon you'll one them going off the and then join me in welcoming our students to the stage [Applause] good evening my name is Colleen trass I teach Orchestra at both Fisher Middle School and here at buing high school thank you for joining us at our spring instrumental music concert um our first piece we'll be playing tonight is one of my pieces um it's called
Finlandia I wrote down notes because I always forget to tell the really interesting stuff about these pieces um so Finlandia is a piece that was composed as um a political demonstration and we don't think of classical music as music for protest or in that kind of way but it was um celus wrote the piece about Finlandia struggling to break free from its rule under Russia um his words about theace he describes we fought for 600 years for our freedom and I am part of the generation to achieve it my Finlandia is the story of this fight it is the song of our battle our hym of Victory so you hear like a struggle at the beginning and eventually like a Triumph and a big kind of Unison moment so I hope you'll enjoy Finlandia for
[Music] for [Music] for [Music] for [Music] la n [Music] for [Music] for [Music] for [Music] for [Music] [Applause] all right our next piece is called Waltz Number Two by Dimitri Shas kovic it is sometimes also ni named um the Jazz Walts um interesting fact about this piece it was originally written orra so strings but also accordion guitar um instruments for know it's enough to make up a dance um like a band for a dance and you'll kind of hear that in this case it's a a waltz it's a very dramatic piece it changes from dark and kind of Broody to kind of a bright Waltz um changes up a bit quickly with Dynamics and stuff like that so this is Waltz Number Two for [Music] for [Music] for [Music] for [Music] l e [Music] [Applause]
okay so the orchestra has one more piece for you um and you'll see the string players back out here later for chamber orchestra for Symphony Orchestra um but really quick while we have all of our um seniors out here with us we have to acknowledge um our seniors who we have on stage um so if we could give a quick Round of Applause for Ashley G Ashley T valer Rebecca andam I know your names I was just so nervous about forgetting one of you that I had to read it off a list I'm so sorry you know how I forget things like a lot um so those are our Orchestra seniors um would like to thank them for their hard work and dedication to our group um I first met this group as um sixth
graders so like picture them but like smaller cuter like sixth grade Orchestra kids um and you know it's really amazing seeing them grow from sixth graders to where they are today um like they were like really goofy like always really fun to work with um and just seeing like what amazing musicians they've become but also like athletes and like leaders in their school it's incredible um and I didn't high school so it it was amazing because eighth grade year got cut off short with Co and it was really sad like I'm not going to get to see them we to finish this so it was such a gift finding out that I get to work with them again it was like no one gets a chance like that so um it's really been a privilege
working with all of you um I know like we probably dve each other crazy at some points between now and sixth grade um over some things but um I appreciate your commitment to the group and for everything you've done like I've tried a lot do things with this group I'm like hey let's go play the ball you're like okay um let's go like on a field trip and like all these things so thank you for trying these things out and for having such a good sense of like um I don't know like very like positive attitude even if you don't think it you guys really are like a positive and really fun group to work with and we're going to miss you next year but we're excited for what you're going to accomplish so um
one more time for our seniors on stage you're the more label but all we're all here um make sure we acknowledge them here our final piece um with this group at least again you're going to hear more strings um later on our final piece is going to be Symphony 104 by heyen he has over 300 complete works um which is a lot including 106 Symphonies he's a really interesting composer because even if you haven't heard of him he worked closely with moard and bovin who we've all heard of um he's considered pretty much the person who created the modern and modern string quet so even if we haven't heard of him we've heard of the things he's influenced um he's known for inserting little like pranks or jokes in his music and they're not going
to be obvious like we're not going to have like any weird sound effects or anything but um he would insert things like sudden Dynamic changes or Melodies changing suddenly when you wouldn't expect them to or loud things in weird places so really interesting composer good sense of humor um and this is symphony e e [Music] e [Music] for e [Music] [Applause] surprise y [Applause] hi hi everyone if they want to um I had an entire speech prepared but before this last song decided to unintentionally steal my entire essay so I'm going to have to wing it um I wanted to talk about how much Miss bar has done for us she explained that you know she's been here with us since sixth grade that's a really long time she's seen us since every single embarrassing
phase of our life um so she she has that she's going to live with that and we just wanted to say sorry wanted to show our appreciation through all these gifts that we've gotten you we wanted to make this the best and the only greatest senior gift you're going to get so yeah we worked hard and we just love you and there's like I have so much I want to say but I I can't say it because I'm shaking my heart hurts I'm shaking so um but we worked hard to show our admiration for you and I hope you felt that please please hey guys um I'm I'm to know that we're actually like graduating and we're not going to be here like next year um this is our last as a family and I'm
just nervous [Music] oh oh yeah um so want to have a special good night for Miss Barry please clap for her again that was the Y Orchestra and of course always appreciate it but like genely the best gift is just getting to work with them and do this concert with them and like of course I love the seal so much but um really it's been a privilege to work with you all so thank you for your kind words and for your hard work over all these years um you're going to see a lot more this we're not done yet we still have syy we still there's a lot left um so you're see a lot more they're playing um I'm so proud of how they're doing so far though so I can't wait to keep
going tonight um at this point we're going to have a bit of a transition while we bring out the con B so be was what we take care of that um thank you [Applause] [Music] uh thank you Mrs TR another round of applause for the orchestra before I talk about Tempo i' would like to thank the UN was faculty for all they do for our students and especially the music department Mr Price Mrs TR and Mr M uh for those that don't know me my name is George I'm the current president of tempo the U music parents organization Tempo supports the music program for fundraising efforts volunteering roles such as the Maran band groupies and organizing events uh we are looking for more volunteers to serve on the board help plan pull off our events
including our end ofe banquet and others if you're able to help please reach out through faculty our Facebook page or email um the visit our table to learn more about our sponsorship and booster program uh end your banquet and tonight's Redberry fundraiser and one last thing I'm sure miss is looking for more kids to come out to the Color Guard from the marching van next year again thank you for your time and Mr Price gets back out [Applause] I h for comeo e [Music] right good evening everyone thank you for being here this evening uh the group behind me is our concert band and in the springtime I like to do a theme of some of some sort uh that carries through all the pieces for the program last year was geographical features of planet
Earth this year uh I decided on the theme of light both physical real light and metaphorical and each piece is either one of those or both of those in some way the first piece we're perform for you this evening is titled a beacon of light now that could be a lighthouse guiding ships into Harbor or it could be a person that has guided a group of people in some way and was a beacon of light for them so without further Ado here's Beacon of light [Applause] [Music] e [Music] [Applause] [Music] la [Music] [Applause] [Music] la e [Music] [Applause] la [Music] for [Music] la l [Music] la [Music] [Applause] thank you very much our next piece is based off inspired by physic form of light black light now this piece is written in what's called a
minimalistic style which was a um style of classical writing that kind of came about mid 20th century so 1950s and the idea is you take little motifs or little ideas either rhythmically or melodically and range them in a way that creates the bigger picture um it's funky it's weird it's cool it's all these things that black light kind of does to the atmosphere that you're in so here is black light y [Music] for [Music] la [Music] oh [Music] a [Music] for [Music] oh [Music] [Applause] all right thank you very much Catch My Breath a little bit two big ones there in a row um our next piece we're going to totally change musical directions slow it down and this piece is entitled onata Lux which can you know can be translated a bunch of different
ways from the LA if you're a spiritual person it could be light born of light um a more uh a different way is like first light so it could be the first light of the day it's a really beautiful piece and I really hope that you enjoy onata Lux [Music] all e [Music] for [Music] l [Music] [Applause] hello um as Orchestra did we want to thank Mr PR everything he's done I'm going to say something and then Michael's going to say something I just wanted to thank you so much for everything you've done with all of us and with me for all three years that you've been here which is practically all the time I've been playing Co but without you to be honest I would personally be going into music or doing how well
I am today with your passion in conducting and how you to teach us technique even if you don't play the specific instrument it's just really impacting me even today during blacklight when you started stomping like a gr person but you know it works um but every opportunity given all of us and me and all the seniors here we're all just really really thankful for you um once again I just want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart like since having you from fourth grade in La you taught me everything I know about drones and percussion and you really have like sparked my interest in like also as Lauren said going to music like helping me prepare for college auditions like anything like inside or outside of school like no matter what you've
always been there fing and just from the band like when you came to the high school I feel like there was a there was a flip that switched and you just made band so much more like loving and everybody wanted to come and do really appreciate it love hydranges um no all all the seniors though there are few this year they're Mighty and they like I'm so glad they they came came back after Co when I got up here and it's just been a lot of fun to have them along for the journey and seeing most of them if they were at lore or and and fiser I could see them the whole way along their musical journey and that's been a lot of fun to watch and be a part of and uh they
are always a part of the Ying band and always are welcome back and we really all of us I think can say that we all love you and are so glad to you be a part of our Lives musically and otherwise so thank you all okay thank you seniors awesome and [Applause] okay kind of going along with this idea our final piece isled Fuego the alma or fire of the Soul so think of that thing that person that whatever that you are passionate about and that is what that that light that burns within you that makes you go every day um this piece is um the uses two Spanish dances the Pasad and flenco and I think you really will enjoy Fuego de Alan so here we go for e [Music] la [Music] e [Music]
[Applause] a [Music] [Applause] [Music] la [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] e [Music] w [Applause] thanks everybody sorry question um our next group is our symphony orchestra so just give us about one or two minutes and get switched up and thank you so much again for your uh presence here tonight and for your support and uh we have a little bit more left for you so thank you so very much for for for all right so on stage now uh we have some string players back out here um this is our chamber orchestra and this year we tried something new we tried rehearsing after school with a group of string students um anyone who wanted to kind of do an extra group outside of our Orchestra class and this group is they learned an additional uh strength
piece it's going to be Symphony 25 the first movement by Mozart and they're also going to serve as our string section for the symphony group so chamber orchestra SL our symphony strings um it was new this year and I appreciate them um again trying something new with me saying um we rehearsed after school 600 to8 on Thursdays so I appreciate them staying late staying up late to re pieces um this piece is one of Mozart's most recognizable pieces uh you hear it um I feel like in commercials it was in the movie amadas which is about him um and fun fact about this piece he wrote it when he was 17 uh which is around the same age as some of our students um kind of an overachiever um and at the time the the
trend in music was um writing dark and stormy kind of music so he kind of was following that style so this is the first movement of Mo Sy 25 [Music] for [Music] for [Music] for [Music] e e [Music] la [Music] for [Music] e e [Music] for [Music] for [Music] for [Music] [Applause] so now we're going to bring out our woodwind brass and percussionists uh joining us on percussion also with Mr Price our band director thank you for playing with us um so uh our first piece that we're going to play with the our full Symphony group now is March SLO uh this was written by chovsky when there was an ongoing war between turkey and Russia um so you're going to hear moments where it's REM of a military March very March sounding other times
we have um folk tunes Serbian folk music and at the very end of the piece um chosi quotes A Hymn in this piece or like a song kind of like church hymn and he actually uses it in another piece called the 1812 Overture so at the very very very end you hear the trombones play this theme and you might recognize it from another famous piece of Czech hovsky so this will be March love for [Music] e [Music] h [Music] la [Music] la n [Music] n [Music] [Applause] all right so um and by the way I didn't get a chance to thank uh the woodwind brass percussion players thank you for joining us in this group after school and for your time after school take the extra time to rehearse these pieces with us it's really
great having a full Orchestra at the high school I know we have a Fisher I just hope you continue this um our final piece that we'll be performing for you this evening is the plan um the planets is by British composer gusta Hol he became very interested in like astrology and kind of like those characters so he wrote a piece called the planets one for each of the planets um we're going to be hearing Mars first which is uh the character it gets is the bringer of war the bringer of death it starts off very soft almost like a sense of like Dread and just like really dark um it gets very violent and loud as it gets on and we have Jupiter which is the bringer of joy and we hear a beautiful him
and Jupiter followed by a kind of like dance like section so this is the planet [Music] over [Music] h [Music] for [Music] all [Music] for [Music] l [Music] oh to [Music] [Applause] you thank you again for joining us for our H spring instrument music concert hope you enjoyed everything uh thank you for your support of our students um and encourag them to continue performing um we really appreciate it thank you for
