to begin by expressing my thanks to the entire ewing school community things were certainly not how they were supposed to be for the class of 2022 and all of you connected to our seniors there were many challenges throughout their time at ewing high school but you were always positive and supportive and for that we are very grateful tonight is a night for all of us to be very proud we lost a lot of moments over the past two years or so a lot of experiences and events but not this one not tonight it is an absolute pleasure and privilege to be here to celebrate ewing high school's class of 2022. so kids seniors graduates enjoy this moment take it revel in it celebrate it it's yours you earned it a special note of heartfelt gratitude
and appreciation to principal shmeel and the educators and staff members of ewing high school for all that they have done to help these graduates reach this milestone accomplishment during such a challenging time they work very hard and truly care about their students uh please note that principal schmill is in health and wellness protocols this evening and is currently on the inactive list assistant principal jarrett will step up and assume his role today but ed it's great to have you here and maybe he'll make an appearance by the end of the night i was talking to a student from the class of 2022 and they stated to me you know covet defined my high school experience i thought about it and i responded i said no don't say that don't ever say that that's not the
case what happens to us does not define us what defines us is how we handle what happens to us and and these kids ewing high school's class of 2022 handled everything that was thrown them with at them with fortitude resilience and determination if you're looking for evidence just check out the impressive legacy of achievement left behind by ewing high school's class of 2022. it has talented student athletes who added to the outstanding history of ewing high school athletics with team championships and impressive individual accomplishments including jamie allen threadgill who's whose senior leadership and ability to knock down clutch free throws helped the blue devils girls basketball team to county and state championships this year and sierra reed whose ability to knock down pins under pressure led the ewing high school girls bowling team to a
state title among this graduating class we have gifted students who demonstrated ewing high school's outstanding program in the arts including madison talbert who took the top prize in the prestigious phillip mill hill youth art exhibit and michaela mccloskey whose sculpture is currently being showcased around this state in music and theater the class of 2022 shined brightly on the referendum 18 revitalized ewing high school stage with beautiful choral and instrumental music concerts and the critically acclaimed production of the 25th annual putnam county spelling bee and finally our seniors academic achievement was again highlighted at the annual awards night as over 247 thousand dollars in scholarships were presented to members of the class of including among these are nicholas mcfeeters who earned a twenty thousand dollar scholarship from udc inc and the lakeland university-bound mirror hayes who
was awarded the prestigious debbie marks lake scholarship joining them in these cl this class in front of me are students who are headed to some of the best colleges and universities in the nation or ready to move into the workplace or serve their country in the military i always like to conclude my welcome address by reminding all of our graduates to take pride in where they came from every new beginning comes from some other beginnings end but your experiences here in ewing have been essential and important in shaping the person you are and will become by the end of tonight you will have an alma mater and there is only one place that calls you one of their own as board president mr messina likes to say once a blue devil always a blue devil
welcome to the ewing high school alumni family and as in any family there's nothing that will make us feel better about what we do than for all of you to move on from here and have happy productive and meaningful lives so class of 2022 this is your night this is your time this is your very well deserved moment remember the most difficult journeys often lead to the most beautiful destinations move confidently in the direction of your dreams live the life you imagined thank you congratulations and let's have a great night each year the administration chooses members of the graduating class to speak on behalf of all the seniors this year we have selected two outstanding seniors to represent the graduates i would like to introduce our first class speaker ms danielle bain [Applause] hello everyone
my name is danielle bain and i will be your first class speaker for today thank you all so much for coming here this afternoon before i start my speech i'd like to ask all of you this question if there was one thing you could change about your past what would it be no pandemic the friends you decided to make that math test you forgot to study for believe it or not those answers might be more similar than you think when i walked into ewing high for my first day of school i had no idea where the world would take me i don't think anyone in this room could have predicted what the future would hold and when a need was expressed for a class speaker someone who could condense every individual student's experiences into a
single speech i felt this pull on the surface it felt crazy i've never done anything like this before but i've seen so much with my time here and i feel like a lot of things need to be said over the course of my involvement with this school i've done a total of three sports three musical ensembles and two clubs as a result of this i've gotten to know and interacted with so many people at this school so many different personalities goals outlooks and stories it was such an eye-opening experience within these stories there was one common thread a kind of apprehension a relief a fatigue and it all leads back to one thing it's no controversial statement to say that our high school experience wasn't a very normal one a full year and a half
of being stuck in our homes forced to learn in a way that didn't live up at all to what we were used to we were used to a routine extracurriculars a constant stream of people community and with junior year all of that became a thing of the past how many of us raise our hands how many of us rolled out of bed one one minute before class started or turned off the camera to get a quick nap in the middle of class i'm sure we can agree that to a certain level it was tough if you feel like you didn't you weren't able to recover before the new year i'm right there with you it's important for us to reflect to pinpoint all the ways our experiences affected us this is imperative if we're going
to enter our new lives outside of these stadium doors ready to face them being forced to sit by and watched as the years passed us by was painful for not only the students but our families friends and mentors too you might have fallen behind feeling that the work you were doing wasn't worth it that it was impossible to trudge through without an end in sight you might have done the opposite pushed yourself through every google meet every assignment and all of the eye strain just to keep yourself afloat wondering when the work would just stop coming everybody copes in different ways and is valid to feel left behind it's valid to feel overworked and underserved there's a specific moment from the song omnia soul that i really enjoy it goes but the footprints of the
winter melted to fields of spring one last embrace before i cross the threshold to life we sing to me this is a great metaphor for where we are right now at the crossroads of winter and spring between our past and our future right now our experiences are fresh and raw but with time they can melt into new beginnings to new jobs new schools and new lives even a new world since coming back we've learned how to navigate this new world and all of its changes it's okay to take time for yourself in the wake of all we've experienced in fact it's imperative reflection is the only way we can learn and grow and the only way we can move on completely we can face the future head on and use the things we've already learned
to help us through moving forward isn't a choice it's a necessity now i can sense that my time to speak is coming to an end but before i sit down let me leave you with this another quote from omnia soul this one goes with the strength of orion find refuge from the shore let courage be your ore let passion be your sail wisdom and truth will guide your deep hearts yearning through all travail i'll stay your soul and leave my hearts its song it's time to celebrate enter that new life with vigor go ahead and turn that tassel toss those caps and fill up at every single barbecue to your heart's content you've earned it thank you [Music] now [Music] to [Music] is [Music] remember when and let your heart be saved [Music] [Applause] [Music]
so [Music] is [Music] my oh [Music] can't be swayed remember [Music] [Applause] [Music] oh [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] oh [Music] my peace [Music] [Applause] it is my pleasure to introduce and present the class of 2022 valedictorian medal to thomas valenga [Applause] thank you miss jarrett and thank you to everyone here that made today possible good afternoon and welcome to the graduation ceremony for the ewing high class of 2022 when i was told to write this speech i was given one simple direction make it personal as i thought about how i would do that i actually began to think about the opposite i began to realize how much the people around me influenced my growth during my time in ewing so this afternoon i have a few personal stories and a few experiences that will
show you that the greatest resource you will have in your lives is the people around you since i was a freshman with the obvious exception of junior year i have been involved with a marching band unfortunately i missed band camp my freshman year when it came time for the first football game i had no experience and absolutely no clue what i was doing i was terrified thankfully i had people around to help me like andrew ashton and michael montagna and i made it through my first game okay my peers did not hesitate to answer my questions and soon i knew my music my marching and i knew that funkytown was awesome thank you [Applause] this past year i was the drum major and i had the opportunity to pay it forward as i led freshman
and sophomores through their first year and just to gush a little they did an excellent job many of your first experiences with high school were in sports i know that me alan braden cameron evan and the rest of the senior soccer players had three weeks of practice before we even stepped foot in the building now i have done four sports in high school i played soccer i ran indoor and outdoor track and i wrestled soccer is a team sport so the people around you matter greatly when on the field how they play with you and with each other the communication and work ethic is incredibly important to how each game goes without the people around you you cannot win running track and wrestling are slightly different stories however when it's time to compete you are
alone no one can help you no one can fight for you and there are no substitutions it sounds lonely and scary but here the people matter almost more your teammates motivate you to get better every time you practice if you're gasping for air after running your guts out and you want to quit right then and there they are the ones who run up beside you and encourage you just a little further come on man you got this even if they cannot help you compete your teammates are no less vital to your success without them you cannot win now i know that all of you have had adult mentors in your lives for some of you it was a teacher you talked to when you were stressed or worried and they tutored you or gave you
extra credit for others it was a coach who gave you some tough love and helped you succeed i know two of my greatest mentors were my parents who were always there to help whether i needed it or not i know it was my dad especially who was constantly on my case about everything from big things like completing my ego scout project to simple things like just doing the chores every sunday sometimes it felt overbearing but i know he was doing it out of love whether it be teachers coaches or parents that you talked to when you needed help there have always been people ready to help you and each of them has had a profound impact on you they have helped you get to this arena floor right now where you get to listen to
me ramble on for several minutes i know they're proud but don't keep all that advice to yourselves what i have learned from others i have passed on and that is what i challenge all of you with this afternoon each of you has a unique experience and each of you has your own wisdom and advice to give so when you see someone struggling let it remind you of yourself lend a hand be a friend maya angelou said that people will forget what you did but people will never forget how you made them feel so make people feel confident make them feel accepted be the person that you needed when you were struggling if all of you can do that even once in your life i know that this class will go on to do great things
thank you and congratulations to the class of 2022 [Applause] it is now my pleasure to introduce and present the 2022 salutatorian medal to mark romanowski [Applause] thank you miss jarrett good afternoon my name is mark romanowski and i am honored to be the ehs salutatorian for the graduating class of 2022. first i would like to thank those who have supported me along my journey for without their help i would not be the person i am today i would like to thank all my teachers for your support knowledge and guidance on my academic journey next my friends for shaping me socially and allowing me to gain the courage to lose my metaphorical shell finally my family for instilling in me values to treat others with respect and value family about materialistic and financial pursuits thank you
for always supporting me and my endeavors and for loving me unconditionally now as there are many paths that lead to the same summit the journey i took is only one of infinitely many the path i chose to follow was different from those who came before me and those who will follow despite this all our paths have similar elements that have allowed us to get where we are today of all the elements of success the most important is a person's willingness to believe in their own abilities throughout our lives we often measure our own worth against those who may be more talented wealthy or accomplished we put ourselves in their shoes with our circumstances placing barriers between ourselves and our goals discouraging us from pursuing them but if we block out the outside noise and focus
inward we will find a light this light is our determination fortitude and strength our unique worth all right sorry yes our unique worth that is capable of great things but only if we believe in ourselves when we give into the beliefs imposed on us by others the light dims but when we silence the outside noise and believe in ourselves the light fills our body and we realize the barriers holding us back were the mere shadows of our doubts and fears mlk once said faith is taking the first step even if you don't see the whole staircase in the pursuit of our goals we will not foresee every twist and turn nor how demanding it may be but believing in ourselves is the first step in our journey the next element is a person's willingness to
try and accept their best a major obstacle many of us face is the belief we need to be perfect to be successful as a perfectionist this is a struggle i face daily the truth is none of us are or ever will be perfect but that is a good thing if we were all perfect what can we dream of achieving being imperfect allows us to achieve something that initially seems impossible but through hard work and dedication is within reach to be imperfect is to be human and to be human is to try our best recognizing that it changes day to day thomas edison once said i have not failed i've just found ten thousand ways that won't work by giving and accepting our best every day regardless of our circumstances or the outcome we strengthen our
determination to pursue our goals the next element is one's ability to be humble recognizing their successes in life were not achieved without the aid and sacrifices of those who helped them along their when a person realizes this they become grateful for everything they have and recognize what is truly important in life those they love and care for the last element is a willingness to dream over time many of us choose reality over fiction isolating us from the benefits of dreaming as albert einstein said logic will get you from a to b imagination will take you everywhere i am an aspiring astrophysicist who dreams of studying phenomena at the edge of understanding requiring a union between logic and imagination i found this union through playing the viola connecting the creative and analytical portions of my mind
but this is only one of the many benefits our imaginations can provide they allow us to glimpse a world where a better version of ourselves and humanity exist reminding us that every day positive change is possible but only if we act on our dreams dreaming is how the world's greatest problems are solved how will how we will improve our lives and the world to make a better more inclusive society for us all it is within our power to spark significant change all we have to do to realize this is follow our dreams the only question is are you willing to follow yours as i close i wish you all the best of luck on your journeys never stop being true to who you are remember that out of the billions of people on this earth
there is only one you so why try being somebody else may you all not only inspire others but inspire yourselves thank you and congratulations to the graduating class of 2022 finally it is my pleasure to introduce our second class speaker madison burnett [Applause] hello fellow classmates faculty parents and friends my name is madison burnett and i'm the second class speaker for today before i begin i would like to thank everyone for being here and for everyone who helped us get to this moment getting the opportunity to be together to graduate was something i thought i'd never have to wish for yet just last year that seemed to be the only thing we cared about and here we are i remember being a freshman and begging for the time to go by so i could be
at this moment right here and now i'm begging for the time to slow down we've all gone through a crazy high school experience like no other 2020 and 2021 had gone down in history but the class of 2022 had lived through it our sophomore junior and senior year was affected by the pandemic we really have no idea as to what a high school experience is like without the presence of coven we were faced with we were forced to isolate from those we love and care for forced to look at a computer screen for hours on end and forced to watch as the world was affected by this for me personally it was hard watching myself struggle and feel so alone but then i think back to all the positives that we were given during this
time our class song is called omnia soul which translates to light everywhere when we were going through all of this it might have felt like darkness had surrounded us it but we were still gifted with small light moments where we were able to find happiness we were given this time to spend with our family we are all fixing to move on in our lives and we were granted almost two years at home with our loved ones that time was precious so i'm glad i got to spend it with them with this time it showed how resilient we are we were faced with so many challenges when it came to schooling however it did get us out of a lot of testing teachers worked so hard to provide the best environment possible virtually and showed us
just how important in-person education actually is i and i'm sure the rest of the class appreciates all the staff and teachers efforts through these few years we've came back into the school year ready to put our best foot forward we got to see the football team win the vision championship we got to watch the drama department create an amazing production of the spelling bee we saw the girls basketball team win sectionals clubs were able to resume activities and help students in the community grow school functions were planned and set in motion such as pep rallies spirit weeks and school dances we got to come back into the school year and do what we were good at we were able to have fun with each other again and create memories we'd never forget we get to
look back at our lives here at ewing high and know that we've made a lasting impression we've now we've set an example for all grades behind us and we've shown them what it takes to be a blue devil so this year is our year this time is for us after everything we've been through we finally got to show our school spirit together again we got to learn and laugh with each other in class we got to dance together at prom and now we get to celebrate together we get to look to our left and right and see the faces of our classmates our teachers our family and our friends and we get to say we did this we made it through all of this this is our time to be proud of ourselves and who
we are and who we have shaped to be one last embrace before i cross the threshold as the song says so this is my last embrace to my strong ferocious brave and inspiring class of 2022 you should all be proud of yourselves this is our moment they always say there's a light at the end of the tunnel but this is just the beginning of our journey congratulations to the class of 2022 [Applause] mr shmeel and miss jared it has been one of my greatest pleasures to lead this class through the school year and watch us all grow as a class watching as you cheered and pushed at the final pep rally will be one of my fondest memories from this year i'm so proud of this class coming out as spirit champions may seem like
a small victory to some but i know it meant the world to so many of you and especially to me these four years have truly united us as a class and given us memories to look back on for years to come so thank you class of 2022 for your hard work and dedication this year as the president of the ewing high student council it is my pleasure to present the class of 2022 for graduation [Applause] thank you noemi we accept the class of 2022. today is a special day for everyone here as we celebrate the completion of your formal education with your graduation from ewing high school today each and every one of you should be excited proud happy perhaps even a little sad as this is the last time all of you will be
