[music] Hey, feel. [music] >> [music] [music] >> And we will go ahead and call this meeting to order. Can we take roll call, please? >> Miss Atkins, >> here. >> Mr. Bach, >> Mrs. Peterson, >> here. Mrs. Sando, >> here. >> Mr. Sornson. >> Mr. Sturm, >> here. >> Mr. Wright >> here. Approval of the June 15, 2026 agenda. Do we have a motion to approve? Motion to approve. >> Second. >> Any discussion? Vote, please. >> Miss Atkins, >> yes. >> Mrs. Peterson, >> yes. >> Mrs. Sando, >> yes. >> Mr. Sterm, >> yes. >> Mr. Wright, >> yes. Commendations, good news. >> Okay. Um, we have a few things. Uh, first of all, Miss Claire Revy, she um went to invent National Invention Convention and she got second place in second grade. So she

is our national runner up for invention convention. >> Nice. >> Um maybe there next one. So schools USA uh we had several students uh who went off uh to the national conference. You can see up there. Um, so what Skills USA is is it's kind of a you used to have like FCCLA would would would do kind of uh your it's almost like a mix of FCCLA, FBLA and um and a little bit of FFA and uh industrial tech. So it's kind of like all your trades go together for Skills USA. We still have some of the other clubs, but um this is just a opportunity. So, um, as you can see up there, we had somebody go for architectural drafting, somebody go for uh, electronic technology, somebody for engineering, somebody for heating, ventilation, AC,

and refriger refrigeration, and then another person attended just as a Iowa ski or skills USA delegate. So, Evelyn did. So, uh, our girls, uh, qualified for state, unfortunately, got the the eighth seed, which meant they went up against number one right off the bat. And so it was a kind of a tough game to um get into, but um again, congratulations uh for the girls being one of eight uh to qualify for state. So soccer honors um we're still waiting on some of the district and state stuff, but for conference, we had two uh Hawkeye 10 allconerence members, a few allconerence second teamers, and then a few allconerence honorable mention. So snag near our whole team if you look up there. So, good season. Boys, uh, they all of their awards are out. So, we

did have a first, uh, first team Adrian. I think this is the second year in a row that he's been an all-stater. Academic all-state first team. Uh, four individuals there. Uh, an academic all-state honorable mention. The KMA boys uh, soccer team, Adrian also made that. Uh, Hawkeye 10 all conference first team, three individuals, three on the second team, and then a couple honorable mentions. So again, this will be the last time we have the the H10 in front of our awards. We're moving on to the uh um Missouri River Conference next year. So hopefully we continue to have the same level of success. And that's it. Oh, and then uh there's a youth musical going on right now. Um, I just want to tell people if you are interested in going, it is actually the

the fall music or the the high school musical this year was Alice in Wonderland through the Looking Glass. It was kind of a almost like an adult adaptation of of Alice in Wonderland. This one's actually the original Alice in Wonderland. Um, they're doing uh like a junior the junior version. So, um I don't know. Do you know how many they have? How many kids they have? >> I want to say it was like 75 kids. >> It was a huge >> Is it that many? Yeah. >> Mhm. >> I just know they have two Hazen girls. That's that's all I know. So, >> yep. >> Their performances are Friday at 2 and 7 >> and they started clear back in May. Um, as far as, you know, for some rehearsals and stuff and they've been

kind of um going ever since. And this last two weeks they went every day. I mean, eight hours a day last week or not quite eight, seven hours a day last week, seven hours a day this week. So, performances Friday at 2 and at 7. Anybody else? Okay. Okay. >> All right. Then we'll move on to comments and suggestions. This is the first portion of our meeting where we open the floor to any public comment that they would like to direct towards board. So, we'll give it a couple minutes here. Okay, hearing no comments, we will move on to the consent agenda >> where there are some updates. >> Uh yes, there are a couple ads up there. Okay. All right. Do we have a motion to approve the consent agenda as presented? >> Motion

to approve as presented. >> Second. >> Any discussion? Vote, please. >> Mrs. Peterson, >> yes. >> Mrs. Sandout, >> yes. >> Mr. Sturm, >> yes. >> Miss Atkins, >> yes. >> Mr. Wright, >> yes. Reports 6.01, 901 curriculum instruction report. Dr. Herbert. >> Okay. Mine really is short this time. So, um I've shown you before how district leadership team took the board priorities and then um turned those into goal statements, but I haven't kind of shown you the whole big picture of where we're going. And now we have like some lead and leg measures. And then just to show you like the shell of um what our scoreboard is going to look like. So um just to remind people like this is what district leadership team is for. Um there's admin on this team and

then we have teachers on this team also who are selected through our teacher leadership process. But you can see here some of the things that they're responsible for and this is also those things are also built into what the job description of DT is. So as I plan out DT agendas I always try to keep these things in mind like are they having an opportunity to do these things? So um I think having some strong goals um helps make sure that we are able to hit these items. Um so you guys selected literacy and student behavior as priorities. So then DT became responsible for providing what the the structure is to move those things across all of our buildings. So this past year, DT then had this common direction that came from the board and

then a lot of what we did was just talk through and um decide on how we're going to measure success and then kind of building out the system to help us monitor what progress looks like. Um so this year was largely a systems building year. You can see on the far left hand side those are our goals. We have clear goal statements that are measurable. um kind of use that smart goal uh framework. Um so you can see with literacy, we'd like to be 80% proficient everywhere by 2029. And then we'd like to decrease our referrals by 10%. And I'll show you on our scoreboard, you can kind of see like where we stand now and what that's going to look like. So then DT decided we're going to look at some lead and lag

measures. A couple years ago, we read a book called the uh four disciplines of execution. It's so good and it's really what helped us think through lead and lag measures. Um just like if you were trying to like lose weight, you don't wait until you see the number on the scale, you're maybe monitoring some things before you go to see what you need to adjust and adapt. So that would be like your lead measures like tracking our nutrition or some different things like that to see what we might need to change before we get to the end where our lag measures are. So you can see some of the things we've identified that we're going to be looking at as a DT throughout the year. Um, and then I built out this monitoring system and

I'll show you a quick little preview, but it would be our district scoreboard. So it's going to be what DT is going to look at consistently through the year. We have builtin times where we're going to be looking at data that is relative to each of those things. And then I think that helps give me like a board reporting structure because then I'll just be able to take all of that and then come back and share with you guys um all of that information and the analysis from DT. Um so it was really just kind of moving from goals to action. We've got our goal, our lead measures, implementation, and lag measures. So like I said before, instead of waiting till the very end, we're going to look at some different actions along the way

to make sure we're getting the results that we want. Um, so here's just a quick snapshot. Hard to read, but this is what the literacy side is going to look like when we meet SDLT. So you can see our goals at the top. We've got some measurements. If you look K through eight right now with our fast literacy, that's one of our measurements. Our baseline score is at 63%, we want to be at 80%. Um, you can see some other things I do have on there. um buildings have not yet reported out like what specifically their literacy focuses, their BLTs will need to meet to do that, but I just kind of started to play with this and put some things in those boxes. So, as DT meets, these are the things that we're going

to get updates on um and just kind of see where trend lines are going on some of these things um and make sure we've got some good feedback loops built in to be able to send feedback back to building leadership teams. Uh this is very similar, but this is what it looks like on the behavior side. Um you can see we've got baseline major referrals in there. You can see each of our buildings, but the total for the district was 3,151. So we want to reduce that by 10% which would be 2,836. And then you can see there's spots then where we're going to measure our lead measures. So the things that we're trying to put some pressure on to see if that helps move the needle on those referrals. So, we'll be tracking some

of that um as we go through um DT this year. So, again, that scoreboard, this is what it allows us to do is just to identify some of those trends early, spotting some patterns, providing some feedback. Um you know, I think sometimes in some places we set goals and then we just kind of like let it ride and we really should be like checking in to see like do we need to adjust some things whether it's resources or support. Um, and so I really am hopeful that that's what all of the thinking around this and the scoreboard kind of allows us to do is to be able to make some of those adjustments as we go and provide some of that feedback back to building teams. Um, so what comes ne next for um, DT,

our focus is going to be reviewing a lot of that implementation data every single time. Um, supporting BLTs with their the priorities that the district is asking of them. analyzing a lot of that behavior. If you're coming to SCIAK or behavior data [snorts] if you're coming to SCAK tomorrow, we're going to do a little bit of a deep dive into some of that data. Uh DT will recommend adjustments when needed and then quarterly we'll then I'll come back and provide some updates to the board. So this year was really building that system. Next year we'll be using the system to improve student outcomes. So that's DT work last year and this coming year kind of in a nutshell. But any questions you guys have for me on any of that? >> How often do they

meet to evaluate like >> once a month? >> So we have the district leadership team and then we have basically b uh building leadership team. >> Yep. >> So from what comes from the DT is it all disseminated the same way to BLT? Yes. So, we've kind of played with that the last couple years. When I when I first got here was we didn't really have a great feedback loop system back to buildings. So, we've kind of tried to do some different things back and forth. I think we've got a pretty good system now of just getting feedback from those DT members and then disseminating that back to their building leadership team. So, it looks the same. I think the biggest struggle sometimes is there gets to be so much on a building leadership team

agenda because you're trying to do so many things as a building principal. So, it's making sure that we have some dedicated time to dedicate to what these districtbuilding goals are and the the work in progress towards them. >> Good. Any other questions for Dr. Hartman? All right. Thank you. We will move on to 6.02 finance report with Mrs. Rice. >> All right. So, we will start off with the May uh expenditures. or the expenditures through May of this year. Uh so you will notice on here that we do have our um debt service payment on there. So that uh is a pretty significant number up there. Um the rest of our numbers are trending exactly where we would like to see them for May. Um so for this we just have the month of June

left. um which does include uh our August and July payroll for um teachers. So that is why we still have about 25% of that general fund budget left. And then the rest of them are a little bit higher like the nutrition fund that will uh run as a June 30th end date and won't have any payroll to carry over. And then we received our insurance renewal premium summary. Uh so this is for our property insurance and all those that go with that. Majority of the coverages are through EMC. Uh so our property insurance is a 9% increase. Uh the other number I wanted to point out on there, so I if anybody's seeing it, the 546% increase, it's only a $220. So, it is only a $1,200 increase, but it is on the pollution liability

insurance. Um, and then the other number is our workers comp insurance. Uh, it was only a 3% increase. Um, and our uh mod rate actually has been decreasing. Um, so that has been super helpful uh with our increase is in theory uh the 3% would be our 3% increase of our salaries. So, um, that is one of our best increases that we've had in quite some time. So, our total premium, uh, increase will be 6%. Just a reminder, all of these premiums do come out of the management fund. >> What's triggering the 9% on the property when we're making improvements? >> Our property uh, valuations are increasing. Okay. And the way that EMC also works is that we are pulled with all the other school districts. So um while we may not be having claims,

other districts um are uh one of the things they did do last year uh to keep the premiums down was they did put us on the uh wind hail um reduction. So that is a quite a significant deductible, but we did um buy that down in the uh group fund with that. So >> yeah, I just seen insurance increases everywhere. Like I think my homeowners insurance will be fourth year in a row I've had a 20% increase in my home's insurance. Never had a claim in my life. Just unfortunately when everybody around you has claims then that's how insurance companies make their money is everybody's goes up then. So that's we're also adding a fieldhouse. That's a property that, you know, Yes. is something we're adding value to. So, you know, all those things add

up. >> Fair enough. >> And then I wanted to point out House File 251. Um, it's the election responsibility changes. Uh so in the school board elections, which they're not until 2027, but uh in Iowa code, they replace the secretary of school board with the county commissioner of elections 18 times in Iowa code. So in short, what that means is that nomination paperwork is no longer filed with me, the board secretary, but it is filed with the county commissioner of elections. So when it comes down to that next year I will put that reminder out there that the paperwork does not come to me that it uh goes to the county. So I guess there's one day that I'm required to stay at work until 5:00 by law and that no longer is is the

case. So one more day I guess >> that was a requirement. >> Yes, it is required that uh it shall not be filed later than five o'clock and that I have to stay in the office until 5 o'clock. of them that they took that out. So, >> so now I can keep her later. [laughter] >> So, I guess that one day >> 7:30 >> I can uh I don't have to stay till 5. But thankfully it was, you know, always a Thursday. Never happened to be a Monday where I also had a schoolboard meeting that I [snorts] was here anyway. So, so I will put that reminder out there next year, but I just wanted to make everyone aware of that. >> I do want to make a note that she's usually here till after

five. So >> correct. Correct. >> Are there any questions on any of my >> I don't think so. >> Perfect. >> All right. Thank you. [clears throat] >> Um so I just have a couple things. First I'll start with uh construction. Are you guys getting the I think you guys all get the weekly report from from Chase. So, I'll just kind of go over those uh really uh quickly here. So, at the high school, we did have an issue uh this weekend. Um so, we're in just the beginning stages of having the roof replaced. Actually, we're about halfway through where they remove all the rock and then they remove the roof and they put the new rubber down and then they seal it. Uh the new rubber is down, but apparently they didn't have time

to seal it before that storm came through on Saturday morning. And so, it's an absolute mess in there. They had um we had couple of inches of water in our small gym in our kitchen um ceiling tiles coming down the whole nine yards. And so um Surf Pros been in that's the the roofing company's responsibility. So Surf Pro come in on Saturday and they uh um essentially have been in there ever since. So they're they have big dehumidifiers up. They're getting everything out. They'll replace all the ceiling file or ceiling towel basically. to get a whole new ceiling in the kitchen, some drywall repair. Um, mainly trying to get that water out of the gym floor. They got it all picked up, but like for instance, the water is on half the gym floor. That

half is sitting around a 20% he or humidity rate. The other side's sitting at like a six. So, they got to get that 20% down, or else it could buckle the gym floor. So, they're working on that. They they it's they think it's coming a long ways. They'll potentially be done with it on Wednesday is what they're guessing. Um, so hopefully we'll get the roof uh all buttoned up. Um, they said potentially even at by the end of the week except for some um some flashing and that kind of stuff that goes around the outside. Uh the LED lighting project is is uh being close to completed at least on the second floor of the middle school or of the high school. Um mechanical upgrades, you know, they're kind of in the middle of that

as well at the high school. the high school editions coming along. If you guys ever get a chance, I I did a walk through with uh Director Sturm on Wednesday, but if you guys ever want to walk through it, it's it'll be a significant difference from what we currently have in the high school office. So, um this year's uh high school class will be the first that will no longer right now we issue, if you're going back and forth like I West, you can get a key card. There's not going to be any key cards issued any student ever. Um they will all have to enter and exit through the through the office door. So right now they'll kind of exit out of whatever door they want to. That's no longer going to be case.

All the doors are going to have alarms on them. And so tell your high school seniors that you know or high school students that that's that's whole thing has changed. So if they try to walk out of a different door, they will set alarms off. It'll be a deal. Um if you walk if you go to the high school, you'll notice all the concrete has been taken out of the front entry. Um they're going to start to pour that back here uh probably in July. Uh they're going to try to get the outside of the addition completely done. Um in the wait room, the wait room wall projects is almost done. They just are finishing up painting I think today. Turf goes down tomorrow and then I think they're pretty much done by the end

of the week. So uh that'll be nice to get that put back together. Uh the next project we have is middle school. So [clears throat] they luckily didn't have any rain. Um it was interesting the big wall that goes up that they had to take down for the to widen the staircase that was they were anticipating about two days worth of removal for that where basically the because of the rebar and the and the you know currently there's supposed to be some infill and that kind of stuff within the wall. Turns out there was none of that that wall for 65 years has basically just been like stacked brick. So um they pulled out a couple bricks and the whole thing came crashing down. So it what they thought was going to take two full

days took >> less less than a less than an hour so to have completely done. Um but again I mean that thing has stood for forever. So who knows? Uh so that's down that'll be um done. Otherwise if you notice the parking lot the parking lot we're kind of having an issue. So, so our the main drain that goes through the middle school isn't just isn't just ours. Like I mean it's ours, but there are different things coming into it. Primarily the water off of Harry Langden goes in through the inlets and then comes out and connects into our system and then goes out with our system. So even though we have that cut off right now, anytime we get a significant light rain like we had this weekend, that water is rushing in there

and then has nowhere to go. So it was just kind of bubbling under the surface and coming up. So we're going to have to probably work with the city or something to try to try to uh funnel the water elsewhere. I we don't know. We're talking about potentially putting in tube tires like in the outlets or in the inlets to try to make the water continue to run down. We might even funnel it towards the softball field um to try to, you know, in a major rain, you know, just trying to get it to go anywhere other than the parking lot because we need about two weeks of dry weather in order to finish finish the underground or uh piping and then grading so that way we can start look thinking about pouring. So, but

we need two and when I say rainfree, I don't mean like your little storm that comes through. I mean your significant rain. We need two straight weeks of no significant rain for us to do that. So hopefully that'll happen. Then if you go over here to Titan Hill, uh you'll drive around, you'll see that they're just in the middle of replacing the doorways and the windows and that kind of stuff. So um really kind of cooking there. So just uh for just a reminder, the the middle school editions focus primarily right now on the sixth grade hallway or the sixth grade wing and then the hallways. So that's kind of where they're focused on. Um they'll do in a little bit in the office, but they'll do um seventh and seventh and eighth grade. They're

going to alternate classrooms during the uh school year and they'll finish it all up next year. So if people have any questions about what area is getting done, you can just say we're focusing on the sixth grade area this summer. And then a lot of the um HVAC stuff. So all right, any questions about construction? >> I have a quick question. So if we if we flow the water towards the softball fields, could you put like the drainage tiles under there like they do on agricultural farmland so it doesn't flood it really bad or is that >> So there is drain tile in the softball field. Okay. >> But but the water if you notice sometimes when we have significant rain the softball field >> will kind of flood anyway because it's it's a low

area. >> That'll be an inevitability like right now that even that runs off into the into the parking lot. So, >> we have to dam up the water somewhere. And I mean that we had that was such a tremendous amount of rain on Saturday that we started getting the bubbles in the football field again where the water was underneath it. It couldn't drain fast enough so it starts lifting the turf of the football field. Yeah. >> Now it's all settled down. You won't even notice it happened. But, >> you know, just trying to >> It's those rare events that we get, you know, three or four times a year that we where we get, you know, two or three inches in an hour. Like that's that's this that's what we can't handle right now. >>

Yeah. >> So >> we need it not to do that for a little bit. >> So if you know mother nature's phone number, >> tell her to chill out just for uh two weeks. >> Yeah. >> Then she can let loose. So, um, and then the, uh, athletic building, [clears throat] they do have, they're pouring kind of this the I don't know what you call it, like a like a there's a wall that goes around the outside of the of the old building and it's it's about 2 ft deep and then it kind of goes up about 4 feet. And that wall is for two purposes. One, it helps support uh the siding and the building and then two, it it's supposed to be for um for flood mitigation purposes. the city's having us do

that and so that's almost complete once they're done with that. All of our siding and roof is on site so they'll start putting it up. All of the siding has the insulation on it. So should go fairly quickly. So right now they're also working on all the all the underground plumbing that's going to be kind of replaced or and then they still got to pour the remember our floor has to raise a little bit. So they got to pour that too. And then the July 12th is when the other building gets here. So once the other building and they'll start pouring the footings, the foundation for the building and then once once the other building gets here, it'll go up. I mean, you'll see some real action then. But um anyway, any questions? All right.

Uh second thing, I'm going to piggyback off of Dr. Hartman's um presentation. Do you have those? >> The one in >> No, I the the >> strategic plan. Oh, strategic plan. >> Yeah. Pull that up. And then the website as well, but we can do this first. So, we're going to present this to science tomorrow. Uh this is strategic plan. I I also emailed this to you guys. You guys will actually be uh discussing this and voting on it in July. Uh but this is just a kind of an initial draft. If you scroll down um you know this keep going, you kind of see the areas there. you'll see some fast facts. You know, the way we wanted this written was ease like easeability to read like we know we know as a district

school like what we're talking about when we talk about our goals and how we're going to get there and action plans. We want this to be more for the community focus. So something that's not tremendously long. Uh something kind of gets to the point kind of outlines the major um things that we're looking at. So, anybody can pull this up and if you're looking at our school as a place you maybe want to work at or attend, you can pull this up and just say, "Okay, well, here's some information about us." If you keep going down, um, here was the overview, kind of a timeline of how this was developed. If you keep going, uh, so this was that community engagement survey we did last year. Kind of a short synopsis of that. Keep going.

And we'll actually put that engagement survey uh on the website that I'll show you too. Here's our mission and vision. Keep going. Theory of [clears throat] action. So this is the if then. So this is you know if we do these things then we should expect these outcomes. Okay. Priority areas. These were the three areas that you guys had focused on. Opportunity access climate and culture finance facilities. And then you'll see uh each priority has a goal or two. Um so priority one uh the goal was you know by the end of May 2031. We kind of went a 5year uh out May 2031 Central Community School Districts will increase uh state district literacy assessment proficiencies and at least 80 uh to at least 80% at each grade level. So kind of a kind of

our five-year goal. And then uh what that what that what the paragraph tells you is why you know we believe that if we increase literacy that you know our our student outcomes will succeed in all areas because number one thing is students have to be able to read and then if you see there we'll have the uh the action that's our action plan and then how we will measure success and then the lead and leg measure measures which we talked about with Dr. Hartman. Party two culture climate this one is about student discipline. If you go to the next one, priority three, this is uh finance facilities. We broke this in two. We but we have a finance goal and then we have a facility goal. So the finance goal um basically sustaining a level

um that we deem appropriate. It's essentially 15% um is what they want your um unauthorized or uh uh >> unspent authorized budget. There you go. Unspent authorized UAB what they want your UAB to be. So we set a goal of 15%. Um and if you keep going down it talks about how we going to do that. And then the next one is facilities and it talks about the development you know completing the projects that we have at hand but then developing a 5 10 20 30 5 10 20 year u facilities plan. So, and then it talks about who's on the district leadership team just because what what we want people to see is that this wasn't just made up of, you know, and then we'll also have the uh school improvement advisory committee um

up there as well, but we want people to see this isn't just admin and board saying this what we need. We want them to see that this is a collective effort. And then this is just some areas of strength. you know, per the survey that we put out, these were some areas that they uh identified through the survey as areas of strength. Okay. And then if you go to the website maybe. >> Oh, it's down here. >> So, we wanted kind of a landing place that people can go and they can kind of see. So, uh Emma quickly put this together. Um and so you'll see the all the same stuff you had we had in the flyer, but if you scroll [clears throat] down, these buttons are not active yet. We're going to work

on these. But if you keep going, keep going, you'll see our priorities. And then you can click each one of the priorities. And this will be the landing place that you'll see um each one of the goals land under. And then like the like the scoreboard that Dr. Hartman um shared, you know, we can we can incorporate that somehow or some elements of that into it. So not only will people see this is what our plan is, but they'll be able to see on a quarterly basis how we're performing and and toward those goals. So, okay. Any thoughts, questions, concerns initially off the top of your head? Again, we'll we'll discuss this and because you guys will have to vote and approve our strategic plan uh in July, but this is, you know, kind of

the beginning of it. Again, the whole purpose of it, I was I shared this with some different superintendents and they really liked it and they're like they're like, "How'd you land on this one?" And I said, "Because it's short and easy to read." Cuz a lot of times when I pulled up like OPS's is like 38 pages long, you know? I'm like, I don't necessarily if I'm a community member, I'm not reading 38 pages of gar of uh not garbage, jargon. So jargon. I'm not reading 38 pages. Like I'm not going to know what that means. I'm not going to be able to go in the details. And if they want to ask details, we'll be happy to provide details. But really, we kind of want them to be able to see off the top

of their head, this is this is what we're doing. this is because nobody's going to spend that much time going through it. If you really want to contact me and I'll give you all the information you want. Otherwise, if you just want a quick overview, that's what you got. Okay, and that's it. Okay, any other comments, questions? Okay, then we will move into discussion items 7.01 under bleacher storage building purchase. Um, so this is and I sent you guys an email and I'm just I'll just talk about the email, but the uh sent you guys an email. They did come back with um because what you fill out online is like a is like an estimate and then they come through and they get you exactly um what you need. Uh oops, wrong one storage

buildings. So, the actual costs uh for this, so like building their building numbers are different than the ones I put up there, but like what I have up there for building one, which would be the band one, the 12 x 22, that one came in at $8,481.68. And again, that's shipping uh assembly. It's just the metal portion of that. Um, building what we have up there is building two is kind of the the 12 by 55. They had to shrink it down a foot. Um, otherwise there's going to be a lot more. 55 was a standard number, I guess. 56 would have been custom. So, so I was like, "Oh, we'll lose a foot. That's fine. Not a big deal." Um, but it's 15,27125. And then building uh three is a 12 by 35. That

one's a foot shorter again, but it's $10,264. So, it's a grand total of $33,7557. And that is for uh Tri-State CarPorts is the what the company's called. >> What was that total time? >> It's $33,755. So, they actually have an assembly uh a company or like a distribution center out of Missouri and like I think it's like Springfield or something. But they uh um when I talked to her today, I said, "So, what is your because when I talked to her originally a couple months ago, I said, "What is your lead time?" She goes, "Usually 8 to 10 weeks." So, when I talked to her today, she said that actually the colors that we want, which is like a Peter gray with like a little blue outline. She's like, "They already have all that sheet

metal ready to go." because we're doing a standard size. She said originally what they quoted timeline was because we're doing some custom sizes, but because we went a foot shorter in both the other ones, they actually have the standard ones almost in hand and they can start like if we give them a down payment tomorrow, they said they could be here almost by the end of next week. >> So, so I thought that was awesome. >> Do we need to do any other preparation to that concrete that's already poured under there? No, it was already when we poured it, we we already had these types of buildings in mind. So the the concrete's the thickness that we need for footings. So any other questions on that one? All right, we'll move to 7.02 under bleacher

storage fireproofing. >> So um a couple things. One is we were planning on always in these buildings to put some sort of a drywall up. I think our guys are just going to do it themselves. They're going to drywall it and at least try to, you know, make it because those metal buildings can be bitterly cold and and super hot. So, because of when you store anything in there, we kind of wanted to try to control a little bit of that. Um, however, because it is under the bleacher storage, it's not even like necessarily a city issue. I can't blame the city. It's a fire code issue that has to meet fire some different restrictions because it's literally underneath spectators. And so, um, what they're requiring us to do is they're requiring us to do

some like spray foam in or like some of that spray foam insulation and then do um like it's like I don't know if it's double thick or it's two layers of drywall, something like that. And it's a certain coating. And so at that point, we're getting beyond kind of what Jim and his crew were comfortable doing. So we did bid out um some drywall, you know, the the work to people. And this was um so Brett Wallace is helping me do it because he's actually submitting everything under his contractor license because the city wanted us to use one contractor. Well, it's hard when you want to get the building from here and you want to do the drywaller for here and you want to do and they weren't letting us be the contractor. So, uh

Brett's just volunteered as a community member to do it underneath his contract. I thought that was great. So, he is um for spray foam at the center building framing drywall and finish uh $32,350 from Johnson Drywall. The other bid was from BC Drywall and that was 36,425. So, the recommendations Johnson drywall $32,350 and then we still have to because the building originally comes with like a simple rollup garage door, but it's not it's not fireproof. So, we were looking at rollup fireproof doors, but they would have taken a lot of because they're so thick, they would have taken a lot of the headroom and dumped it down to almost 6 feet of headroom when you walk in. Otherwise, it's supposed to be an 8ft opening, but it would have taken 2 ft of it. And

um it was over $100,000 for the five doors, about 20,000 a piece. So then we looked at can we do swinging doors instead, which are a fraction of that cost, and uh we can. They're going to let us do swinging doors instead. So um so switching it to swinging doors. We don't have the the um cuz we just kind of finally got that approval back. So but we're we'll have that probably for the next meeting. will be swinging doors or maybe you know if they are over 20,000 for all of them then I might have to have a quick meeting or something. I don't really know but we'll figure that piece out. Um so that' be the other thing that we're and then a little bit of electrical but that won't come to you guys

because that'll be you know it's simply just running outlets and a couple couple lights in there. So that'll be well below the $20,000 threshold. [clears throat] >> And the doors do have to be fireproof. They have to be fireproof >> or fire they have to meet a fire rating. >> Fire rating. Correct. >> Yeah. [snorts] >> So they have to meet the same rating as the walls and the ceiling. I thought all metal an all metal building would be plenty fire resistant. It's all metal. But apparently I I don't know what I'm talking about. So which is probably true. >> All right. We'll move to 7.03. 3 Northwest Missouri State memo of understanding. >> So, this is just an agreement with them that allows us to um take their students as for internships and student

teaching. >> I think that one's pretty cut and dry. >> Okay. 7.04 202526 district student fees. >> So, there's a couple changes on our district student fee schedule. Uh one of which is LCLC fees have been removed because uh LCEF is going to be taking over LCLC. Um the lost car feard fee like high school students had a lost card fee. So that's going to be gone because we're not issuing any cards because of the new secure entrance. And then the state is requiring a 15 cent increase for adult lunches and secondary lunch or uh second like when you get seconds. So otherwise everything else is staying the same. >> Yes. And the agenda should say the 26 27 students. So, whoever makes that on the agenda, it's incurred. >> On here, it's incurred. >>

Oh, is it? Oh, yeah. Read up there. >> Oh, because it said 2526, but it's for next year. 26 27. >> Got it. All right. 7.05 student handbook updates. Um, okay. Okay. So, I emailed you guys the uh the updates. I'll kind of go over um them quickly and Oh, actually we have them up there. Um so, if you can see up there, uh handbook updates. Can you scroll in just a little bit? Or Dr. Hartman, can you scroll in? We'll go up the top. >> Zoom in. >> Yes. Yeah, zoom in. There we go. Okay. Uh, so elementary handbook updates. So, they just updated personnel, the district calendar. Uh, we have the grievance policy. We changed that as a board last year, so they just dismeared it. Uh, student contact policy. They actually had

it listed twice and so they removed one of them. They updated their discipline matrix a little bit to more align with the middle school and high school. And then the um chronic abs as far as like what are major and minors. And then the chronic absency and tourism they um you guys approved a new policy for that last um last summer and so they added that one but is approved the policy was approved after the handbooks are done. So and then um supply list they updated those. Keep scrolling down. So trying to see if there's anything I mean nothing earthshattering everything is just either updates to reflect current policy or to remove uh repeats smoking drinking drugs. I hope that's not happening at the preschools a lot, but you know that's uh been that too

has been updated. So middle school um so updated staff names updated truency to meet. Okay, so dress code if you look there added masks um unless prevent illness and and face paint. So, we've actually been having students show up in costume both at the middle school and high school. It's funny when it happens at the elementary like the parents are like, "Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry." And they end it. But when they shows up, kids are coming to school at middle school and high school and Mr. Haver's over there shaking his hand head in like in like full costume and uh you know, dressed like clowns or dressed like cats or dressed like you know like like all like I don't know. Anything else I'm missing? Oh, that's pretty pretty accurate. >> Yeah. So,

>> and really it's not like you'd be like, "Oh, are they one of those furries?" Like, no, they literally are just they just thought it was funny to dress up like a cat or a dog that day or they thought it would be funny to dress up as a clown or or to wear really scary makeup, you know? Um, and so, uh, we've kind of just told them like, "No, that's distracting in class." And, and but it's funny like you tell that to an elementary parent and the parents like, "Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry." You tell that to some of these middle school and high school parents and they're like, "Oh, my child's just expressing themselves." And I'm like, "I get it." But if your child's dressed in full clown outfit, like big shoes

and everything, sitting right in the middle of class, that's probably distracting for the other students. Like, I understand that they maybe they're feeling a little funny that day, but like that's distracting. So, we're adding that to the policy. Um, office referrals just kind of match uh current practice. We're actually going to So, office referrals and disciplinary policies are going to have to change anyway because the state passed that new language that we have to create when students were removed from a classroom for a disciplinary issue that if the teacher and the principal can't come to an agreement or when that student returns back the classroom that it goes to a committee level. >> Yeah. And so, we're going to have to update that. We just don't have that guidance yet. and we that those sections

if we adopt if we update our policy after ISB puts out the recommendation after the state puts out their recommendation then we'll probably have to review and revise that before school starts but as of right now I told them I said just update it with what you have and let's go and then uh if you keep going down see so that's about it for middle school and then high school um So this is updated tardy policy. So the first five minutes of class are essential um for receiving key instruction. Learning targets for criteria and information necessary for success throughout the lesson. Um tardies to school and tardies to class are addressed separately. Please review the expectations below. And then they have some expectations there. You'll see in the red what was crossed out, green what

was added. Um keep going. Since I have Mr. Haver here actually, do you do you have any uh just overarching and things that were maybe changed or why you changed them? Yeah, this year we we really looked at starting class um and putting some new policies in place around um kind of a a step procedure in terms [snorts] of consequences and parent notification and if there needed to be uh any supports for the students because we our our tardies to class were something that that were on the rise and one of our school teams, our ASB team decided that would be something we wanted to So some of that language is is part of what we added to our handbook this year. >> Okay. And next thing is we don't have a formal AI policy

yet for like we have an acceptable use policy for electronics for a district, but we don't have anything related to specifically AI because the high school is dealing with it more than anybody. And that's primarily with students submitting unoriginal work that they're getting off of AI. They didn't want to put some policy in there that basically says like, you know, use AI only when it's authorized. I mean, one of the things we want to acknowledge is that we're not going to stop it. It's just like Google back in, you know, the 2004 when I was in senior in high school be like, "No, you can't use Google. You have to go use an encyclopedia." And I'm like, "But Google has an encyclopedia." You know, like I feel like it's kind of the same thing like

chat GPT. I mean, AI is here. it's going to give you pretty accurate answers. We need to teach kids how to use it and not how to, you know, use it appropriately. So, that's really what that's about. And then we we add a section about school resource officer and what they are and what they do and don't do. Um, so school res. Keep going down. Little blurp about Saturday. Saturday school, remove the key cards. This is um the new rule about how to e enter and exit the building during the school hours. So, you can't exit any other place except through the main doors. And then >> there's some old language about talented and gifted students like it references it which I haven't >> so I got rid of that updated some of the concurrent

enrollment stop keep going down uh just clean up the language for early graduation. So the main thing is all early graduation requests must be submitted to the building principal for approval. So before we've had a couple situations where like people would tell their counselor I'm going to retire I'm going to graduate early and then the counselors are busy and they don't relay that information and then the student doesn't show up and you're like okay where's that student? It's like well graduated you know. So it's one of those things where everything should technically go to the building principal so then they can come to you because nobody approves graduates other than you guys. So, keep going down. And so, the activity handbook I told them to bring um in June or in July because uh whether

or not you I don't know if you guys know, but eighth eighth graders cannot participate in high school sports. So, they have to come up with a policy on for us and then we'll adapt our handbook, but it's going to be a pretty significant one. So I just said just wait till July for the activities handbook. So any questions? >> So we had the change in procedure for or change in the handbook for office referrals. Uh part of our strategic plan is a um a reduction in major referrals. Did we tie those two together to look at the wording? >> Um, or do we think that the office referral change isn't going to play any part in >> how we target that reduction in major referrals? >> I I think where you're going to see

it mostly is um is the the language has already changed in the middle school and high school and that's primarily what we're focused on is middle school and high school when it comes to those major referrals. Not that the elementary major referrals, but we we'll know that the data at the middle school and high school is probably most I mean that's going to be the most accurate. We might see a pretty the elementary might see a a decent change from year one to year two, but then we'll just know that's because we changed some language in that building. So, as long as we have an understanding of that, that that should be okay. But >> okay. >> But I don't I don't know that it'll really change it that significantly. I was going to say

the wording seemed fairly vague and generic, so I >> Okay. >> All right. Any other questions? Okay. Then at this time, we have close session for an open enrollment revocation. So close session is recommended to discuss revocation of open enrollment out applications per Iowa code 21.51A. Close session is appropriate to review or discuss records which are required or authorized by state or federal law to be kept confidential or to be kept confidential as a condition for that governmental body's possession or continued receipt of federal funds. Do we have a motion to move to close session? >> Motion to move to close session. Second. >> Was that a second, too? Okay. Any discussion? >> Vote, please. >> Mrs. Sandow, >> yes. >> Mr. Sturm, >> yes. >> Miss Atkins, >> yes. >> Mrs. Peterson, >> yes.

>> Mr. Wright, >> yes. [music] >> [music] [music] >> Hey, [music] hey, hey. >> [music] [music] >> Hey, hey, hey. [music] >> [music] [music] >> Heat. Hey, Heat. [music] >> [music] [music] >> Heat. So, we're returning from close session. At this time, we have comments and suggestions. This is the second portion of our meeting where we open the floor to any comments that they wish to direct to the board. We'll give it a couple minutes here. >> A couple

that came in in between. >> Okay. >> Um, David Bette was wondering if the hand moves have been updated to address SF2428. And then on a lighter note, also for dress code update, do clown shoes include Crocs? [laughter] >> I like the humor on that one. >> So yeah, the first one is I think Brent mentioned it, but the SF4 Yeah. No, it hasn't. Oh, sorry. >> There we go. Uh that's what we had talked about earlier with the with the um disciplined committees. They haven't put it on any official guidance yet. Neither the state or the the education department or the Iowa Association of School Boards hasn't updated the policy yet. So that that'll be something that we'll have to revisit once it's done. But we need to at least get the handbooks so

we can get them put into our because the handbooks are put into uh P school and then you guys can always update them anytime. So hopefully by August we'll have the provisions of Senate File 2428 and their disciplinary um protocols uh updated by that point. So and for the second point on the Crocs, I wish but then my son would only be able to wear his hey dudes um fancy Crocs >> and yeah. >> Yeah, we could require kids to wear them in sport mode so they don't fall off. And then the other one, Andrew, if you can just remind the audience that are added after somebody asked for minutes for today's meeting, but those will be added. Can you just be added whatever time frame after the meeting? >> Yes. So minutes will be

published within two weeks of the board meeting this evening as per Iowa code. >> That's all I got. >> Okay. Then we will move into action items. So we'll go into 9.01 under bleacher storage building purchase.
