Mhm. >> everyone, I will go ahead and call the meeting to order and we do have six members present this evening. Um we'll start with the approval of the agenda. Moved by De Ward, seconded by Beerbaum. All in favor say aye. Aye. Opposed nay. Passed at 6-0. And we will move into our public forum and I'll read our statement on public comment. Residents of the district, students attending the district, parents or guardians of students attending the district, and district staff members may address the board about any topic relevant to the district whether on the current agenda or not. Those who wish to speak must sign up at the beginning of the meeting. Speaker participation is limited to 3 minutes once per item. The views and opinions of citizens addressing the board do not necessarily reflect
those of the board, district administration, or staff. Speakers are to remember that I will not prohibit the board from discussing specific employees, students, or their performance. Student speakers will state their name and school. Others will state their name and address. And we do not have anyone signed up for a public forum this evening. So, I will go ahead and close that and move on to our consent agenda and I'll entertain a motion. I move the board approve the consent agenda as read. Second. Move by Tidwell, seconded by Tipton. Uh all in favor say I. I. I. Opposed, nay. Passes. Zero. Moving on to reports, we'll begin with our superintendent report. Yes, since this is a short meeting, I'm going to be talking about staff in each board meeting update. I do want to introduce which
you just approved, our new director of teaching and learning, Ali Emery is here. So, yay. Welcome. We're excited to have you. Great. Um the rest of the updates, you have your resignations, fills. Um we do have now what a yellow highlighted means new to the district. All the other positions currently are trans- transfers or transitions to different position. And just an update on elementary principal position, we had candidates um come in. We had um a number of candidates come in. We have selected four. Uh they've been called today to be interviewed on Friday. And that will be taken care of at Mitchell. Uh we have uh two interview teams, three interview teams at Mitchell, two made up of parents and staff, one made up of administrators, and then the fourth one is myself with the
tour and then a writing document. Any questions for Superintendent Graves? Okay, we'll move on to our Chief Financial Officer report. Good evening. So, I'm I'm here today to talk to you about the budget guarantee or budget adjustment resolution. And um Usually I don't um talk separately about this topic, but um when Senate File 2201 was passed Well, what it was passed the same time that we received the 2% supplemental state aid, there was an adjustment to our property taxes um in that in that new amendment, I guess. And so, I just kind of wanted to go over that with you because what it is is it gives um our patrons of our district a little bit of property tax relief. Okay, and so typically in the past when our district's been on budget guarantee or
when any district in the state's on budget guarantee, it's usually our a decline in enrollment or low supplemental state aid, combination of both, which is our case this year. And so, we have we are in it for $172,693. And for FY27, um the state of Iowa is picking up that tab instead of our property taxpayers. And so, that'll come to us in a in the form of state aid. And so, it does reduce our property taxes about 4 cents on a thousand for our local patrons of our district. So, just like um Art had emailed me earlier, you know, like, you know, what does this mean if someone you know, smacks you you know, on my shoulder at the grocery store, you know, what can I tell them? You know, should should we pass this?
And and I say, yes, we should because otherwise, we will not receive this in the form of revenue. And so, you know, our district would have to go without the $172,000. Are there any questions on It's a little different concept this year, so. Yeah, the question I had I'd sent you, it was kind of in relate relation to So, if the state is setting the S SSA, what what they're going to increase it by, but they're also going to cover the gap, what's the point in setting the SSA amount if you're just going to cover the gap? So, it's it just seems a little strange from the way we've always thought about it. And are Do you have any concerns with this new method going forward that the state's controlling that that gap amount versus
us and the taxpayers? Is there anything there that you're concerned with? Well, I mean, to me they could just set supplemental state aid lower every year if they're going to continue to cover that gap. Mhm. So, we would receive it in the form of state aid. And so, they'll give us less state aid because we're not taxing our patrons, you know, for for that gap of funding. So, yes, it is less just funding overall for our district. They're going to set it at 2% that we get 2%, then we're also not getting the you know, 172,000 from our taxpayers. Yeah. Correct then. It is concerning. Sure. Concerning, but also we're not going to turn down the the money as well. Right. Thank you. Um, student representatives, did you want to share Our student representative couldn't
be here this evening, but sent something to share. >> uh to share, unable to attend tonight, and just wanted We put the documents in, but wanted to highlight uh the high school cultural fair. Saturday, April 18th, 1:00 to 3:00 at the high school commons. It's been a good success but also wants the community to be aware of it. Information is in the supporting documents for the board meeting and will also be in our minute. Another way to get that out to the public. Our student reps as we have found out and they're involved with the board. They're very busy individuals. Like I say, students first then board second. Family first then board second. Same thing with kids. All right. Um items from board members? Then we will move on to requests for the superintendent. Um
I did not note any this evening. So our board planning calendar, we will have our next regular meeting on April 20th at 5:30 p.m. Um and at this time we will go ahead and move into our work session. So we'll reconvene around the table in the center there and we will be ending our live broadcast at this time.
