when he was a nice kid. He was out at the he was out at the high school in the wait or in the wrestling room. What? I was out there Thursday night for band. Was that Thursday night solo contest or whatever? >> Yeah, he was out there. >> You hear us? Okay. >> Yeah, you should hear me. Okay. >> You sound great. This is perfect. >> Awesome. >> Will you read tonight for me? >> I will. >> Okay. >> All right. It is 5 o'clock. I'm going to call the meeting to order. Everybody please stand for the pledge of >> allegiance. I pledge algiance to the flags one nation under God and justice for all. >> Thank you. All right. First off, Gina, will you please read the uh mission for the district and strategic

priority number two? The mission. We will empower a community of lifelong learners who strive for personal excellence through meaningful relationships and realworld authentic learning experiences. Strategic priority number two, integrating 21st century learning skills and student opportunities. >> Thank you. We have a conflict of interest declaration. Now is the time to declare if any of the agenda items pose a personal conflict of interest. Does anybody have anything to declare? Hearing none, we'll move on to the approval of the agenda. Um with not seeing anybody here for the the levy hearing, we'll just go and leave it where it's out on the agenda. We won't change that. So I would entertain a motion to approve the agenda as presented. >> Motion by Ross. Is there a second? >> Second. Second by Gina. All those in favor say

I. >> I. >> Oppose. Same sign. Motion carries. Any visitors or anybody wishing to public comment? Hi John. Hi Gail. Everybody else is part of us. Okay. We will move right along to information only. First up is construction project update. Estus. Hi, I'm Kylie Murphy with us might remember you from last time, but I'm here to provide a budget update for you guys. So, this will be based on our good future discussion document or CD uh budget um page. Um so as you can see here we have the total project budget progression. So this is showing um the uh project budget totals by item from the compared against the original the schematic design the design development and construction document budgets. This variance you see on the right hand side is between the design development and

this construction document budgets. Um, one thing I did want to note is the CD budget is also based on the 50%. So when we reference the CD, it's based on 50% set. So there is still a little bit of design to do, but I just wanted to clarify that. Um, so as you can see, we're currently sitting at a project total of 17,143,46. This total variance is roughly a decrease of $117,64. That is um a decrease of 0.7% from the last u budget update we provided. And um I'll talk a little bit more on the next page compared to the original. But as you can see here, this is the total project budget variance versus the originals. Um, as you can see, we are uh trending or we're not trending over. We are decreasing moving

in the right direction from the previous um design budget, but there is still that gap from our original um budget. And so something we wanted to uh point out is the under the FFN column in the variance you'll see that there's that $86,58 that is for the electrical disconnect in phase 1 A. Um this was something that was originally in the project uh total construction total but we moved it to the FFN due to a longer lead time making sure that it would get here in time. So that's where you see that $86,000 um overage there. Um but we are still there is still some design left to do and we feel comfortable with the direction that the project is progressing with. Um as far as value management options because that large item is larger

than we would like uh there is some options that we are considering. Unfortunately for the stat status of where we're at in the design phase, um there's not any small items that we could change that would be impactful in a large dollar value. Um so unfortunately that does mean sometimes we will have to consider um cutting scope. Um, but there are some things on here that I would like to point out. Um, like removing the cusle panels in the wrestling room or removing the sound system in the wrestling room for those. It's a combined total of roughly $22,000. Um, those are just some things that can be deferred until later. Maybe you get into the space and you're like, we actually don't need that panel in the rooms. Um, we're good to display the sound

is currently at. And so they wouldn't need to be uh crucial for the construction project. They could be added at a later date. Um alternately, some of the items uh we will continue to work on these items um collaborating with Bray as the design continues to move forward. Um we're pretty confident in um from our design meetings that we are moving in the right direction. Um and the market is still strong for bidding. um these will go out for bed. Top will go out for bed in uh late Junish. And so we're confident that um you can see some improvement there. On the next slide, I've got the construction phasing plan. Um this is just kind of high level where we're sitting at. So phase 1 A is site and interior work um with some

security updates and replacing the galvanized piping uh throughout the main hallway. That'll start here uh in about a month, actually, a little less than a month. and that'll be substantially complete on August 21st. And then we decide our previd for 2A. Uh that is the footings and foundations and earth work for the new additions. Um that'll start here in early June. Um and then 2B will be bid as in June with the full project being substantially complete uh towards the end of August of 2027. Um lastly, I wanted to talk through um some district tax steps. Um so again, fates today, our fates are due next Tuesday um with board approval. We're kind of we apologize to them, but we are requesting a special board meeting to approve uh those bids uh the week of

009427. Um this is just to keep contracts moving um to keep that process moving to get contractors out on site and to not cause any delays on from him. Um, as far as 2B, the notice of biders will be posted on uh June 23rd. Uh, the notice of public hearing for plans and specs we will fall between the June 23rd and July 2nd uh weeks. Uh, nothing requesting from you guys at this moment. And then bids will be due on July 14th with board approval sometime in the end of July. That is kind of an overall look at where we're sitting at right now. >> Thank you. >> Uh just real quick before we move on, um the special board meeting the the week of the 27th. Um just while Kylie's there, I wanted her

and Reed to know. I think I told Reed, but I want to make sure. Um Avery's going to have surgery on the 27th that week. So I'll probably out that Monday and Tuesday. Um, so if we could schedule and I I wouldn't have to be there if it doesn't work for the board to meet meet like on Wednesday, Thursday or Friday, but um just want to put that out there as you guys are looking at a date. >> I cannot be here on Tuesday of that week. >> Okay. >> Wednesday works. >> And do we want to I mean, Kylie, do we want to do a Wednesday noon meeting? Is just to approve bids? Um or you want to keep it in the evening? >> Uh whatever works for you guys. Totally possible. open. >>

I have nothing. >> Wednesday would be better for me. It's the week before I open, but >> Do you want to Jared, would you prefer like over the noon hour or do you want to do it at a five? That doesn't I mean, either one will work. >> Lunch would be better for me. >> 29th. >> The 29th. >> That work for everybody. 29th at noon. >> Yeah. >> Let me double check here. >> Jill, that worked for you? Yeah, that can make that'll work for me too. Joe, I have you as the Asmo conference. Is that going to be an issue? >> Would that evening work better if we did five o'clock? >> I mean, would you leave and do it from the conference do that too? >> Because I can do something like

this for you, too. If you >> I can be pretty low on the >> What do you want to do? >> I'll make it work. >> Okay, we'll stick with noon. >> All right. 29th at noon. Got it. >> Thank you. >> Don't mind. Don't worry. >> Gina has to run the June meeting. >> Perfect. >> Yay. >> She did great the last time. She'll do great this time, too. No. >> All right. Let's get back on my schedule. Here we go. Uh, building level reports. >> I linked it. I linked in I linked in the three of them for you. I know that Julie's not there. Corey told me she had a uh a conflict and wasn't going to be there and Josh has the longer one. So, let's uh we'll start with Doug

and then we'll have uh Cam and then we'll jump into Josh's. >> All right. Pretty kind of short here tonight. That's the first one. Uh it is field trip season obviously and they tie into most all of our street priorities but with them then we've got people get going to the the zoo fire stations uh we're working with the master uh growers >> gardeners head um other things like that just tying in everything we we we do to finish up the year here. Um Mrs. Holland was had Mrs. Berg and I in to check out some of the projects they were working on talking about hibernation. Uh anything from Jack Daws to diaramas to to those types of things. Uh great stuff happening there. They presented to each one of us uh over what was

going on working on their presenting skills. And then of course each month we have CK uh Husky Heroes. And this is just a picture of one young lady who got to call home and share some great news uh with a parent or whoever they wanted to call uh that they embodied the CKH uh word of the month. And because we do all that stuff up bottom there, just like other schools here, we are now again a CKH showcase school, national showcase school. Uh and really proud about that. all the work we do uh and the things the staff do to make our kids feel welcome uh and learning and growing in all and all. There we go. Questions? >> Yes, sir. >> Thank you, >> Mr. Smith. >> Yeah. Uh couple of highlights for us.

college anatomy physiology class doing the uh simulation at DMU again the similar this kind of season we're doing the simulations world food prize presentations went again on April 8th April 9 a group of us got to go down to Piper district uh northern Kansas City kind of look at their market value assets and how they did their profile graduates so it was a good trip for the group I think there's some things we can bring back and implement Um, we had a metal casting guest come in talking about that that is an industry for our kids. Couple of pictures were linked there. Um, and he was doing on a really small scale, but got the kids perked up of, you know, after high school, you're looking at a 70 to $90,000 job in metal casting

with pretty limited training. Um, and just kind of talking to them about this this industry. So, uh, that was kind of cool to see. On the 29th, I'll be taking a group of kids to um the 132nd wing in De Moines for an International Guard Career Fair. Um really off of that base, large cyber security um in analytics uh that they're that they're working out there with the sister state which is Croatia. I think our sister Kos, excuse me, Coastal is our sister. um and just kind of the the opportunities that are there for our kids to get some training through the Air National Guard. So, um I guess last couple things I'll talk about. Um also, as Doug pointed out, CK uh this year we got Showcase School, actual showcase school for our high

school. So, again, happy about our staff and the work that they do there. Uh if you drove by the high school today, you saw a B car accident. Um, so that's part of our distracted and impaired driving week. And really it's just a visual reminder of the dangers of texting and driving, drinking and driving, uh, THC use and driving, those types of things. Purposeful as we're doing it this week before prom on Saturday. And then last thing today, we had special agent Strickland, uh, his little brother, and another special agent in from the DEA just talking about dangers of some drug and vape use. what's in our community and then educating our kids about how uh how those people are marketing addiction to kids and using social media to sell and transport and play pretty

yucky. So they do that too. >> And when you came around the corner and forgot that's what the car was doing in the yard, you kind of go, "Okay, like that's right. That's right." Any questions for Cam? Not I think we're on to Mr. Sesame. >> Yeah. Yep. Josh got the longer one. I think his he's able to project it there, I believe. Yep. >> Yep. Yeah. So, just put together a little uh slides here for you guys. Um, we use the rise framework at the junior high and that's the district priorities. I just laid out for uh the students and staff and families have a clear picture of what we're doing. So again, our our overarching rally and cry or mission is to be the best junior high in Iowa and we do that

by um executing on the uh strategic priorities. So I have three documents linked in there. Um you don't have to you Yeah. So you have the strategic planning document on the left that lays out um our lead measures and then our deliverables. Um I feel like we're doing a nice job this year and achieving what we set out to do. Um we kicked off the year at Wildwood uh for self-worth and connections. Um we've taken students to college campuses. Tomorrow we're taking seventh graders to DMAC. We've done um raking leaves do community service and we executed our second showcase. So that just lays that out for you. Um we have a scoreboard which tracks our uh metrics of how we measure progress towards being the best junior high in Iowa. So again we look at

um attendance behaviors differencemaker dollars um and referrals. If you hop back to the presentation real quick. Sorry Jill. >> Awesome. Keep going. So the one uh strategic priority that we really dove into this year and was our building focus was uh strategic priority 2 and it was our profile of graduate and making sure that's getting deployed at the classroom level. So our wig um was having um 100% of our teachers teach at least one PG learning target uh per week for 85% of the weeks. And so I'll have you click into that uh right there that's our PG uh scoreboard. And what that does is it tracks how our uh different departments are doing in teaching our profile of graduate skills. So it's a very clean visual on how we're doing and meeting that wig.

Um what I really like about it one it's very clear. You see how we're doing. Um and then if you go into P tracker in the bottom right tab there you go. Thanks Jill. What this does is it tracks for us uh which uh learning targets were taught from which competency. So, I think this gives us really valuable uh insight into um what's being taught, what isn't being taught, and it allows us to go back and look at okay, do we need to provide some more professional development around this competency? Um do teachers need more ideas and how to uh strategies on how to teach these? So, I think it just gives us some good some good data to look at as we start to make some decisions um moving forward and how we're going

to best deploy this at the classroom level, which is our our way from here. So, um gave teachers has done a nice job with that. Um, how we how we've done this is we have a uh PLC that meets bi-weekly. So teachers identify targets uh that they're going to teach. They share resources and then they come back and review uh outcomes and they also update the scoreboard as an accountability piece during that PLC uh time. Uh we have teacher le PD on building level PD days. So teachers take turns um highlighting how they're teaching the competency or maybe they're we're going to workshop an upcoming lesson or unit and best ways to implement. So teachers have had a lot of say and input and take a lot of ownership um of the of the wig

and then the showcase prep. So our showcase kind of anchored our work for the year. um the idea being that students are going to submit an authentic learning project and they're also going to reflect on uh a PG skill that they um developed and through uh throughout the year and so that became the basis of our projects. Some evidence of success is we had our second annual showcase um and students uh did a nice job articulating their PG uh work and then we had uh who come and highlight what we were doing. So maybe we can get that up and running potentially. >> Nope, that looks like a different one. >> Good morning. It's 6:19 the start of another school week and one central Iowa Trump bonus is celebrating earning the title of top jazz

trump bonus under 18. Northwest High School student. >> So yeah. Yeah. Oh, good. There. >> I watched it when the Justin >> There it is. >> Yeah. There you go. >> And it is parent teacher conference time in central Iowa schools. And one central Iowa school district is bringing a twist to the experience. Instead of a teacher telling the parents how their student is doing, the students are showing and demonstrating what they are learning. What set Junior High's authentic learning showcase is this week's Scholastic Spotlight. Parents are clapping, popcorn is popping, and students are presenting. The winner said authentic learning showcase is underway. >> Sharing all this delicious food and snacks. We have eight people for our snack >> in global size. Uh, we were asked to make a promotional video for the uh, Madison

County Chamber of Commerce. >> I'm also presenting a CPR one. So, um, I'm going to be teaching hands-on CPR to, um, whoever comes and watches mine. >> Anything you could think of, uh, you probably will see it tonight. >> Seventh grade math teacher Corey Bradley is excited about this new way for students to showcase their work and how they are progressing. This was kind of our way of being able to instead of just having parents come in and ask what they're doing, letting the kids kind of talk about what they're doing. Um, giving them an opportunity to show off uh the profile of a graduate that they're working on, the different content standards, things like that. >> The profile of a graduate outlines non-content skills that a school teaches being an effective communicator, growth mindset,

innovative thinker, and critical thinker. >> Good evening. My name is Presby, and this is the wire report. not just a paper, not just a test, but really a real life experience that they can do. >> For example, these over students may just look like they're working the concession stand, but they were the brains behind this business. >> I would say getting these real life skills that I think most schools wouldn't like get with the normal math class. Like with this math class, we've learned how to run a business, what it's like to count inventory, and figuring out, okay, I'm going to price this at this to make how much profit, how much am I going to lose, and just real world skills that I feel like a lot of people may not have. I think

the best thing they learned really is being able to relate to people and customer service and really understand what it's like to instead of just show up and say, "I want this." Maybe some manners and things like that, but also that things aren't free. >> The students are presenting to the parents and community how they made their snapshots here participating get the stamp of approval when it comes to learning and growing in winter. >> Makes me really proud. I mean, we're after school hours for so for these students to be here and to be, you know, have that pride in their project that they're here after school to be able to show this off. >> So, it gives you a picture of the night and how it went and how the P work was anchored

in the showcase. The teachers and uh and students did a ton of work preparing for this night and um just getting ready for what we were doing. You're good. Awesome. And then just the last thing I'll show you is just um a graphic that I had put together kind of shows what kind of some thoughts for next year. Um continuous PG work and our showcase what that's going to look like. Um and it really comes around looking at a portfolio system for for students to begin curating artifacts, continuing to work what a high quality artifact looks at eth grade level. What is instruction going to look like? um do we start looking at kind of some uh badging for students who have demonstrated the number of learning targets per competency so we can start getting

some recognition at the junior high level. Um and then our showcase which will look more like a defensive learning for eighth graders. Um and for our seventh graders looking like a kind of like a dry run or dress rehearsal and getting into the mode for doing that being ready for eighth grade. So >> any questions? Great. >> Nope. >> Thank you sir. Any questions? >> All right, we will move on to consent agenda. We have some minutes. We've got three sets of minutes in there. Um, last board meeting on the 9th and then two sets from the 30th from the special meeting and the budget hearing. Any concerns on those? Okay. Paid bills, Jill. Um yeah, there's any other questions on bills that were made other things that were stating rush. >> You answered mine.

We had the big bill for new hurdles. >> Did you hurt athletics? Yes, >> it was like $22,000 like activities. What is that for hurdles? >> Of course he was. It >> was much needed. Yeah. Any questions? >> Any other questions for Jill on those? Okay. Personnel report. >> Yes. So, I'll take this. Um, obviously we talked about the halftime special ed teacher. We're able to uh get that hired. He's currently um Wilson's currently working as an associate for us. And so, he's going to do finish up the student teaching and be employed through Morningside to to do that. So, uh that's on there. you obviously have the really really high numbers in junior high track. Um so several additional coaches this year to help out with that. So that's good. A lot of kids

out uh for for spring sports. Um and then some resignations. Some of them I've tried to keep you uh up to date on. Um for example, Mr. Licky at the junior high u and then Mr. Johnson special ed and then S. Melo at the uh um at the kindergarten level. Uh we have had a lot of internal transfers. So Angie Ross uh resigned at the middle school. Um D Harvey Lden's going to go to that position. And then um I'm losing my train of thought right now. >> We got Jody Smith and Kim Shaw. >> Yeah, Kim Shaw, sorry. Kim Shaw on reduction at third is going to fifth. And then uh we had um Lizzie Wilson at the sixth grade resin. You approved that last month. Um and Jody Smith is going there. So

we're actually when it all shakes out uh we'll be hiring two kindergarten teachers. Um and then Ryan Jensen has resigned as head varsity wrestling coach. So >> Okay. Thank you, sir. Open enrollment. Jill has that worksheet presented there. So, we are to accept um the ones that she had, you know, three in and four out. And then there was some denials um on ins and on outs, but not on our end. Those were from the other districts. So, any questions on those? Okay. Financial report. >> Yep. That's right. In the statement of positions for you, where we're at right now, and um also the expenditures and revenues for the month. Um we are gosh slowing down a little bit on the expenses for this month at least. And then um we'll be working on the

amendment um for this budget year that we're in right now, which that will be on the May um agenda. So we have until May 31st to amend our budget that we're in right now. So um and that will that's kind of what you should be doing every year anyway and making sure we don't go over those four lines of of instruction and stuff. So Sam, you have any questions? >> I don't think so. uh contracts and agreement. The Schneider is that how you say it? Uh electric disconnect quote. >> Yeah, this what Kylie was mentioning up above. Um Reed sent us that to it this week to approve. Sorry, I'm having a hard time getting it load for me on my my end. Um >> it's hot to load. It must be a >> good

>> Yeah. Mine's having a hard time pulling it up as well, but it was something Reed sent Esta sent us to get to get approved as part for the construction project. So, I don't know why it's not pulling up though. >> Jill, were you able to get it to pull? Oh, there it is. >> Ray, I'm looking to Ray. I'm looking past you, Justin. Ray. >> Perfect. >> We've got to move just the boys room. It's got to come over like to the corner. >> Perfect. >> Thank you. >> What's there is not up to code and everything now. So, we have to do that and it's it's like I don't know how many weeks out but it was a long time. So, yeah, we're trying to get it going now. I was trying to

read it and I was like this is not making any sense to me. So, I was like I'm hoping Ray would be here to answer my question. It's just a we're moving that transformer as we Okay, perfect. Thank you. >> Has to be done. Got it. >> Yes. Okay, that is it for the consent agenda. Any questions on any of those items one last time? If not, I'd entertain a motion to approve the consent agenda as presented. >> I'll make that motion. >> Is there a second? >> Is that you? >> It was Tim. Tim with the second. Motion by Gina, second by Tim. All those in favor say I. >> I. >> Oppose. Same sign. Motion carries. Uh first up under new business, we have a public hearing on plans, specifications, form of contract,

and estimated cost for the junior high, senior high uh school additions and renovations. So I will open the public hearing, Jill, at 5:29. Justin, you going through those documents? Are we just looking at them as presented in front of us? William, I'm just Is there anybody there to make public comment or Yeah, >> I see no one. >> Okay. Yeah. I can't see anybody either. I didn't know if there was. Um >> have eyes in the back of your head. I can turn the camera. >> No, that's okay. That's okay. So, no. Yeah, this is again um working with Danielle and Reed to make sure that all these things are done in a timely fashion. This is a public hearing for the rebid of um B from 1 A and then 2 A. Um, so

you have the public hearing and then you'll approve them here. The resolution adopting them will be the next action. So >> it's the concrete and and >> footings. Um, yeah, a lot of the prep work. >> Okay. >> From one B, 2 A, and 2B or am I off on that? >> I think it's just one. >> So 1 A package B. So if you go back, we approved A, C, D, and E. And we had bid uh we rebid B um that uh this time so they could bundle it with some of the concrete work that's in the Yeah. >> And then the interior. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> Electrol the plumbing >> make sense. >> Y >> okay. Um, as there is nobody from the public to ask us any questions or anything,

Jill, I will close the public meeting at 5:31. Okay. Next up, we have to approve um those plans as presented. Would anybody like to make that motion? >> Motion by Tim. Is there a second? >> Second by Ross. Any other discussion? All those in favor say I. >> I. >> Oppose. Same sign. Motion carries. Uh we're on to the approval of the contracts with the WESA for 2627 school year. Justin. >> Yep. So, we uh it's a little special session. We exchanged our initial offers. Jill and I met with them uh the Wednesday after that and we're able to uh come to an agreement uh which is outlined for you there. So it's a 52 cent uh an hour raise. Uh then aging the scale works out to about a a 3.19 on the base

wage. So right around three where we were at. Um and yeah, so the contracts are there and then the agreement is there as well. We're in a multi-year agreement. If you remember they had some uh they wanted some language changes. Um, we said we didn't really want to explore those because we're in the middle of a multi-year contract. So, >> okay. >> Any questions on that? >> And thank you for the data you got us too on that Justin to Tim's question. >> Yeah, we shared that with them too. So, I mean, um, I think I told you before we had this comparative analytics tool, um, that we we purchased through Frontline that taps us into data across the state. So, I was able to show them when we pulled it up um for you

do, you know, based on certified enrollment 10 above, 10 below um and we're right at the average of those schools for the 10 above, 10 below with our uh salaries for them. So, we're we're not out of line. Um I showed you the RC. We're actually, you know, uh our starting wage is higher than them. Um you know, I showed that to you. So yeah, I think we're um trying to be fisc responsible and still stay competitive with within our conference. >> Yeah, I would agree with that. Thank you, sir. >> Um if there's no other questions, I would entertain a motion to approve the contracts with the WEA for 2627 school year as presented. >> I'll make that motion. >> Is there a second? >> Second. >> Motion by Gina, second by Jeremy. Any

other discussion? All those in favor say I. I >> oppose. Same sign. Motion carries. Justin, your favorite thing. Policy series 400. >> Yeah, sorry it took longer than I thought, but this is a big series. Um, and so yeah, I tried to again give you the sheet that I normally do. Um, that's in there. So, if you click on that's I got to scroll actually see what it's actually labeled for you. Um, >> it's a proposed one, isn't it? Yeah, board policies. Um, yeah, where's it at? Gives you the overview and then I also gave you like all the policies that had changes. So yeah, if you go to the WCSD board policy 400 series proposed updates, that that um link document is my notes going through as I reviewed them with Jane and then

the changes that were made to those policies and then I included those policies as well where they're highlighted or um any of the changes made. Some of it was just legal references were off. Some of them there was some changes on the FMLA. Um we actually the policy you had before somebody had basically retyped the form that is the federal form. ISB recommended using the federal form. So that's what I gave you. And so if you click on that the over it's actually the federal form that we send out when when employees ask. And then Jess um also there was a form that we're using when people request FMLA. um she had switched when she got here that form. So the form that's in there now is is the one that she currently uses. So

okay, everybody read those all, didn't you? >> I did. That's light reading. >> Any questions on those? >> N. >> Thank you for the cheat sheet as always. >> Try I try. Yeah. Um, if there's no questions, I would entertain a motion to approve the series 400 uh reviews uh first reading as presented. >> Motion by Jeremy. Is there a second? >> Second. >> Uh, I'll give it to Gina. Second by Gina. All those in favor say I. >> Oppose. Same sign. Motion carries. We are on to our second public hearing of the night where there's more public again that came in. No, nobody came in. Um Jill will start public hearing B for fiscal year 2627 budget uh at 5:36. Um this is our second hearing on this as required by law to have

any other submitted um emails. We did get the one after our last meeting. The other um Miss Barry said one. So, we probably should make sure we get that submitted. Jill, did you get that? Yeah. So, as long as we submit that in, you guys all got it as well. So, >> she contact you, Justin. >> No, not other than email. >> Just those two emails is all we've received. >> Yeah, >> that's all I've received. Nothing else, Justin or Jill? No other comments? No, just the email that we got um that was that I read the first hearing and then the one that came after either later that night or next morning. I can't remember when it came. >> 8:06 that night >> that I sent to you guys then as well. >> So,

okay. Anything else you want to add to this Justin or Jill before we >> once John Parker finalizes the levy um which is probably about miday we can make a decision whether or not if you want to tell you to reduce it you can't of course increase it need to reduce it again so you can have that discussion again in May >> in May we >> and that is we've done that traditionally for new board members Cammy we would always set it here where we know we're safe but after final review in May we would we'll tick that down a little bit again >> five what 15 what now 15 currently >> right now you're 1565 this would be taking it down a dime to 1555 >> we think we probably better >> yeah so

okay any questions on that anything else we want to discuss not Jill we are out of public hearing at and with that board members you have the proposed fiscal Year 27 certified budget there at a rate combined tax rate of 15.55101 which is approximately 9% decrease from the current tax levy uh or tax rate sorry and at this time I would entertain a motion to approve the certified budget as presented at that rate. >> I'll make that motion. >> Is there a second? >> I'm going to give it to Ross. So motion by Gina, second by Ross. Any other discussion hearing? None. All those in favor say I. >> I. >> Oppose. Same sign. >> Motion carries. Next up, we have first reading proposed updates to board policy 60508, artificial intelligence and the educational environment.

>> Yeah. So, um Chad and his team did some work uh revising this uh policy. Um, and it's something where, you know, as as fast as this is changing, I think we've adopt, you know, changed it or or updated it three times now. Um, so the changes he'd like to add or and are highlighted for you. Um, and again, a lot of it's data privacy and making sure that the tools that we vet um have that in place and there's a certain score that he wants them to score on the rubric uh before they're allowed to be used. So, I think they're they're good improvements to the policy. >> My question is, does he want these to take action immediately? I mean, or is he okay waiting another I mean, till the end of school

year so it takes effect starting next school year. Is there any reason to approve this on the first reading? >> No, I think we're probably okay. We're not vetting a lot of new tools now, honestly. I mean, with the month left, does that make sense? So, um I think we're fine with the first reading here and then second reading and having them in place. Um, he didn't ask for an expedited process, so I don't think we need to. >> Okay, perfect. Thank you. >> Any other questions on that? >> I would entertain a motion to approve the first reading of the updates to board policy 605.08 as presented. >> Motion by Tim. Is there a second? >> Second by Jeremy. Any other discussion? All those in favor say I. Oppose. Same sign. Motion carries. Uh

we have two fundraisers that were submitted. One from uh Mr. Deberg for the weight room fundraiser looking to raise oh what $3 $600 $400 to $600 on some t-shirt sales for what do you had bars squat I can't read his hand I'm not going to lie some bands some other things for the waver room >> um uh doing a it looks like probably some sort of apparel apparel um through Jones Creek. And then the second one is a silly string um silly string a teacher uh from the PTO to be held in conjunction with the um PTO fundays I believe. Is that's how I read that Doug? And is that correct? Like instead of the dunk tank or pie in the face, it's silly string. >> Okay. >> What time do you go out? >>

A lot warmer than the dunk tank. >> Yes, it is. >> I appreciate not having the dunk tank anymore. >> Yes, it is. We we'll find out when it's Doug's turn. >> Yeah. >> So, any questions on those? >> Hearing none, I entertain a motion to approve those fundraisers as presented. >> Motion by Ross. Is there a second? >> Second by Gina. All those in favor say I. >> I. >> Oppose. Same sign. >> Motion carries. Board member reports. Brooks, you're first. We just wrapped up our Von Durant student council exchange. So they came here. It was pretty successful. It was a lot of fun having them over. They were pretty wowed by the anatomage table. >> They everybody should be wowed by the anatom and they were really excited to see that. So um

we have that and then we are starting our husky health day stuff. Um we're contacting all the people we can reach out to and we've had a couple meetings about that and then we are drafting our groups here within the month. So, >> okay. >> Thank you, Brooks. >> Yeah, >> Ross. >> Gina, >> just great things going on. >> Uh, I'll just say as I I said to Tim, I said I drove by tonight after school. There are a lot of kids out for junior high track. A lot of kids out there on the track tonight. So, it's great seeing that. And then, um, just starting my first, uh, step into high school soccer. So, that's been fun. and traveling all over the state for high school boys soccer. A lot more travel to

go. Carol and Gilbert ne or in two weeks. So went to Underwood Friday night. Let me tell you, it's been been nice and warm too for the soccer season. So >> most good, >> Jeremy. >> All was good. I went to the home smash. That was really good. I think >> Oh, the poem the >> Oh, yeah. >> Yes, that was awesome. >> Poetry slam. Fire and solo. Really good. >> They made they made the spot spotlight this morning. Fox did. >> Yeah. >> Spotlight. >> Justin. >> Yeah. Since you uh my update, so hope you have your email uh before the meeting. Uh first thing is uh Sarah Bradley reached out uh Madison County Hospital request. they'd like to get us involved in the uh Chak Town Green um kind of for mental health

awareness. So, they've outlined what they're asking us to do. Um I'm okay with with allowing them to do that. If you are, just wanted you to be aware if you see, you know, the chalk being handed out in that what's going on. So, that's the first one. If you have any reservations, you know, let me know. Um Cam mentioned the Piper USD visit. Uh it was a great visit. um they're probably oh they were near six of their implementation so two to three two to three years ahead of us um but really have kept their profile of a graduate as their north star and have aligned a lot of things to it so Josh mentioned the defensive learning at the eighth grade um they do it at each time of transition where their kids are

reflecting on their uh profile of graduate skills how they're demonstrating them um and then they have a senior senior capstone project that every senior does before they graduate. Um it's very detailed. Um and so I think Cam took some notes with the counselors and in some version of that um will more than likely come back uh probably starting next year um in some form or fashion. So um just again a way for us to continue to try and scale that work up. Um that was a really great visit. Maybe something we would we would want to do again. And again, this came um I saw them present at AASA uh and then I let Cam know about it when I got back and he reached out and set it all up and it was it

was a good visit. Anything you want to add in addition, Cam, or not? >> No, that's pretty good. >> Okay. Um property tax bill I gave you uh that passed the Senate last week and then I shared out ISB's um sample and calculator. They did send out an update today. the FY28 numbers were off um on that calculator that I sent you. Um but that's there. And then I shared, you know, I sent Representative Sorenson kind of my thoughts um on the bill and concerns. Um and I shared, you know, he got back to me today and I shared his response there. So I think that's a long way from being done. Um, and like I shared with him, you know, we we went down this path on save, uh, trying to be responsible to

our taxpayers on not raising property tax with the thought that the plea would be there to help with the ongoing maintenance. If they reduce it at the rate, um, that they is in the Senate bill. Um, and then also the debt service, the pre-leving debt that we've been doing to save interest would go away. Um and then those ongoing maintenance at a reduced ple rate would would be hard. Um it would it would be hard. So I'm hopeful that the you know that they'll stay in firm in the h in the in the house and that they won't uh they'll find a way to address property tax without negatively impacting schools. So just want to share that with you. Uh just day one takeaways from here at the summit. Um attended two sessions by Google.

Um really really good. Um they talk about knowledge graphs and uh they're working to imple to take all the standards from across the country content standards and then break them down into what kids need to know to be able to m uh to master that standard and then they would take student work um evaluate against that standard and they could differentiate in real time on where the kids are struggling. So like it would this kid's right on this standard, here's the prerequisit prerequisite skill that's lacking for them to do it. So really neat stuff that they're working on. And then the second one that I that I went to is um they have an AI certificate uh certification program kind of like a credentiing program uh free uh 10-week um that you can take. um

they was really geared towards colleges and university students, but uh there were several K12 educators in the room and asked and she said, "Well, if you reach out to me, I'll make it available." Um I think it would be a really good thing for our high school kids to have access to. Um I even wrote down on my notes, do we require it? Um walks them through how to develop prompts, what's going on with the A technology, how to leverage it. I think it' be really good for our staff. So, I'm excited to see what um what could come of that. And then the probably the most important thing with everything about AI resoundingly out here, people are talking about the need for the human skills um like our Pog skills. So, the fact that

we're making that a focus and continuing to find ways um and using AI as a tool, I think we're on the right um right direction. You've already heard from everybody here, but the Cage National Showcase District and school, super proud of our staff, all the work that they've done around that. I mean, we've been leaning into this work since I got here five years ago. Um, and the fact that I don't I didn't know you could get recognized as a district, but um really proud of the work that our teachers are doing around that. We'll continue to invest in that, train staff, and and keep that as foundational to what we do. Um, they'll they send us stuff to kind of share out publicly. Uh Jane and and Kendra have been working on that. That'll

start going out I think tomorrow. Uh there'll be a letter that goes home to parents about it and then also uh some social media posts as well. Then I'll talk to Jane about getting it on our website. Um I shared my evaluation with you guys on Friday. Uh I think it was Friday. >> Yeah. >> Last week. Um let me know if you have any trouble accessing that um or anything in there. I thought I had all the permissions opened up and all the stuff I linked so that you should be able to access the artifacts and stuff that I I provided. Or if you have any issue on navigating Simly uh and how to do that, just let me know and I'll walk you through that. Could we could we finalize that in May?

>> My goal is you guys have it all done by the 6th. If you have it done by May 6th, then we can discuss it at the May 11th meeting. How's that sound? >> Yeah, just because that has to happen in open session now. Um, so we just need to have it on, you know, the board agenda if if that'll work. And if if not, you know, June's fine, but just throwing that out there >> probably. Oh, yeah. Let's do it in June when I'm not here. >> Nope. In May when I'm here >> um and uh >> my update uh coming schedule, like I alluded to, um I'm back Thursday. Uh should be around uh this week, the rest of this week and next week. And then Avery is having surgery on her foot

on Monday the 27th. So I'll be gone that day and then I'll probably come home that night and then have to turn around and go up and get her and Mel in Iowa City on Tuesday. So not sure how long how much the day I'll be gone on Tuesday. Could be most of the day there. And I think that's it. Questions for me? >> Nope. >> I think we're good. Next meeting is >> uh the 29th. >> I got my note. 29th at noon, don't forget. >> And then May 11th, regular time. Nothing else. >> Yeah, May 11th. Uh Gina, did you say you're not going to be there? >> I will not be there. >> Um handbooks will come that month. So, um yeah, the goal is to have all the handbook changes done

and you can look at them and give me and if you have any questions, you can obviously reach out and I'll try and address those for you. >> Yep. >> You're in Texas. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> Nothing else. How many more days left? 33. >> 33. Doug's like, I don't know. Just till we get done. >> What? No buttons yet. Come on. The senior button. >> We are adjourned. Pam, can I I'll email you,
