Good. >> Good thing there's a me for us. >> I said I feel like I got papers today. >> There is a lot. I feel like I've got a lot of >> She'll give me a big folder today. >> Sorry. Today. All right. I'm going to go ahead and call our meeting to order. Five o'clock. Would everybody please stand for the pledge of allegiance? I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> All right. Thank you all. We're going to uh mission statement and strategic direction. Uh Ross. >> All right. Mission statement. We will empower a community of lifelong learners who drive their personal excellence through meaningful relationship relationships in real world
authentic learning experiences. Uh strategic priority number four, build strong authentic relationships among students, staff, and community members. >> Thank you, sir. Uh conflict of interest declaration. Now is the time to declare if any of the items on the agenda pose a personal conflict of interest. Does anybody have anything to declare? Hearing none, we'll move on to approval of agenda. Have everybody's had a chance to look at it. Justin Jill, anything to remove? Okay. Not entertain a motion to approve the agenda as presented. >> Motion by Tim. Is there a second? Second by Jeremy. All those in favor say I. Oppose. Same sign. Motion carries. Next up, we have uh public comment. Now is the time if any member would like to speak to the board, now is the time to do that. Um there was
a sign up in the back. So if anybody would like to speak we have one. >> You can look here the other side whichever. >> Yeah. >> Did you get that chef? >> This is really hard for me because some of the people that I have issues with are in this room right now. But I want you guys to let you guys know that I don't feel the head of the middle school staff is doing a very good job. My oldest son, right after he had his ocular melanoma and got athetic eye, the kids were calling him a zombie. Came home and told me. I told him to tell the teachers. He told the teachers. The teachers told him to tell him the staff. He did it. It did not stop. I went to the
principal and had a meeting with her. She was to I was told she would investigate. She spoke to my son, some other kids that were overheard, but never the kids that were involved with it. Um, and it was chocked up to kids being kids. To me, somebody has a prosthetic eye. That's not a joke. Um, second of all, my youngest son, he is now in fifth grade. In fourth grade, he's he was okay. So, when he was younger, he was diagnosed with disruptive behavioral disorder, sleep difficulties. He has an IP and a bit. We've made great strides when we were in Doom. Um, elementary was good. We got to middle school and we started having a lot of problems and a lot of setbacks. He did not get along with his um special ed teacher
at that time. And I asked repeatedly, can we please change? Can we get a different teacher? I was kind of blown off and then I was finally told there is nobody else. At the point his behavior got so bad he ended up kicking his teacher who then filed an assault charge on a 9-year-old. Thankfully the judge dismissed it because he is a special needs kid. He was put in the heart room. Um dismissed from there and at that same meeting I was told he was going to be homebound and doing school online. The school could never get their stuff together to give him the assignments that he needed to do. They were making him still work with teachers that he had a conflict of interest with. They weren't trying to accommodate him. They messed his
IEP up so bad in the hours of support that he needs that because they had put him homebound, I decided to enroll him in an online school thinking that he would get more from that. And he is, believe me, he is. Um, and he's himself since he's not in a regular school setting. But I feel like every time we had these IEP meetings, I was told this was going to happen and this was going to happen. And very rarely did it happen. I was told that he was going to go to Wildwood being homebound. They said it would happen within a week. That week came and I never got that phone call that he was going to go to Wildwood while being homebound. I feel that my children were bullied by the principal and some
other teachers at the middle school and I just I know other students that are going through this similar situation and I don't see how it's fair for this to happen to these kids that have special needs. My son has now been diagnosed with ADHD and autism. We just got that report last month. Um, but they gave up on my son. They just said, "You know what? We're done. We're going to make you homebound and that's it." I didn't have a say in that matter. They they kicked him off the school bus. Um, I tried to get my other son back on the school bus. Nobody would call me back. So I now take we live in Peru and I take my son back and forth to school every single day. I just want you guys
to be aware of what is happening in that middle school. these kids are being put in a mold and if students don't fit in this mold then I feel like the principal and the some of the staff there are doing what they can to get them out of the middle school. So thank you for listening. >> Thank you for speaking here. >> Yes. >> Okay. Anybody else? Nobody else signed up. All right. information only. Representative Sorenson, how are you, sir? >> Good. We'll start with you. We want to know. >> What do you want to tell us? >> SSA has been pitched at 2% by the governor, 1.75 by the Senate, and I think if the House had a SA, we'd probably be in the three to four range. >> Uh, we like your thinking
better. >> We might usually get short ended. Uh, I would say it's probably going to be closer to two. I'd like to I mean I guess I'm hopeful that we're we're going to get the larger number for once, but that's also being very hopeful. Um, beyond that, I don't I don't we don't have anything official from the House. That's just kind of my feeling on where our caucus is at. Um, I know the deadline's coming up. February 12th. So obviously we hope to meet the deadline like to get it much sooner. But >> do you feel better about one proposal over the other as far as >> government? The Senate digs in and I feel like they they feel like since they've got their proposal out quick that they can make sense of it. Um
I don't know. I guess for once the house has the governor at a higher number and we can maybe side with parach chiefly the leadership teams and the governor you know and who kind of has the better bargaining position and and generally you know in years past about every year I've been there since the except this year it's been the governor senate verse the house this time we got the governor at a higher number and so that's why I'm I'm hopeful that with the house and house leadership and the governor, we can maybe bump that up from 1075 to two if it's um yeah, I don't sit on education, so I'm not I haven't been in those the specific education committee caucuses. That's where this has been a lot more heavy. This is just my
general feeling from the the caucus as a whole. Yeah, he I you obviously know you know when it's you know the numbers right? Yeah. When it's 2% or you 175 and whenever we do our staff it's going to be right now C price 27 or 28 exactly pitches. We'll probably get to three by the time we get around to settling on the chart. Um you know for us at 2% you know new money is 103,000. We take a 4.2 to uh insurance increase at 45,000. Um and the settlement of just our teachers, it's a 200,000 we throw I you're already you're already paddling uphill. You you know that. Yeah. So >> the largest part of the budget and 70% of what we throw at you guys is salaries and insurance. >> Yep. >> Yeah. There
was a talk and I maybe not I don't think we'll get any legs about a statewide pool for insurance. Is that is that been kicked around again or not? >> That's that's where it'd probably be helpful if I was on education committee. I think that's type of stuff is being kicked around. Yeah. Okay. >> Any more? There was They've been hard to keep track of as always because they come flying in left and right. >> Well, yeah. Um the non-public athletes playing is that one did that get any legit or did that disappear again? I mean everything's alive from last year. >> Okay. It was just >> funnel week. So >> yeah, it was just the you know the private school students you know being able to participate in public school educ or athletics fine
arts if it's not or not offered at their >> it has been offered the last two years. Two years. Yeah. >> Yes. >> I know that was circling again you know or you know it's that the only things I've been kind of looking at are the ones that are kind of grabbing in headlines. I know the vaccine bill. I >> I don't know if I we have a caucus on that bill. >> Okay. >> But >> I can't think that that one's going to make it across the finish line. I get the people I I get the vaccine freedom thing, but that one's a little bit more Europen all of public health, you know, like if I choose not to vaccinate my kids and then stick them in a school, I just I don't know
how we get I don't think you're going to get everybody on board with that one. I think >> weird your craft has made it across the >> I think the only thing on that I would share is you know parents still have that choice and they can still if it's truly apparent schools can require that everybody every one of our parents can say no we don't want to so there's already an avenue >> sure if they truly feel that strongly to not >> I think that one really focused on uh secondary it's like med programs I think is what because there's hospitals aren't allowing med students in the facilities when trying to finish up hours on things when they're not vaccinated. That's just how I kind of read or was watching some of the the
audio on that one was >> there's some didn't even see the audio. >> There's some kids there's some parents that are upset that you know their kid they're in college. They went through all of school vaccines and then they're in college but they can't get into a hospital for placement to finish up >> requirements >> through the med programs. >> There could there could be a couple back bills out there too. >> Yeah, 100%. You guys got any I can keep going. >> You have anything specific? Anything that doesn't have to be education related to just >> thoughts on the property tax? I know there's three proposals out there. There's probably some negotiation behind the scene. Any feeling on how that's going to go or where the house we've heard the house is pretty strong
on, you know, not touching save, but I don't know if that's accurate or not. So >> it is but I I mean to predict anything at this point we're still I would I would I would consider us in the uh information gathering because ways doesn't it's not affected by funnel. So you know none of this stuff has to move now. So yeah, I was everybody else kind of focused on the bills that are >> that funnel and so like we're all kind of like you know you guys have this is an absolute killer for us or this we'd like to see because see that's that's where I'm at with it again said on ways I sit on bros it's a waysville so uh I don't know what how how that they're molding it but I
think they're the way the house is approaching kind of trying to look at all three proposals and maybe what's is there a way to mesh them all. I know the Senate is more of a tear down and rebuild again we're aligning a little bit more with the governor again where we're more trying to look at transparency maybe a cap with excluding some things like schools and and new construction and you know trying to give an immediate relief on the first 25,000 of a house. You know, I don't you're going to have to completely rebuild the property tax system to get any sort of rehab relief from me. Really, what this would be, what I see coming out is something that maybe holds the line and offers the most transparency you've ever seen in trying to
explain exactly your problem text. It it's it's more confusing than should >> I like the idea of that, you know, the older generation not getting property taxed, >> but I'm afraid what that does to the younger generation that's raising kids, paying for daycare, diapers, everything else. So, that's a that's a big concern when you talk about younger generations not being able to pay bills. >> And I understand that the older generation >> fixed income. >> Yeah. I I I get it, but it's just concerning for the younger generation as well, especially housing prices as they are. >> It's the reason we couldn't get anything across the line last session is because when you touch one area, you get zapped by another. So, you're trying to help out our seniors and you inevitably hurt the other
part of the population. >> I'm afraid you're going to hurt housing on top of that, too. So if any of you guys have the magic wand or the perfect name absolutely way I see it is you either have to shoot the property tax payer or the local you know if you get something through you can't please both. No, we've had this conversation show how nuanced it is, you know, and you know, from our district context kind of moving down the path of a save bill and and doing some a project that is pretty well supported in the community because now you're raise taxes, address the needs that didn't happen last time, >> you start taking away that >> uh those funds, that project becomes harder to right >> the fund and our ongoing maintenance. We
felt pretty good through the whole planning phase that we could do this project and cover our ongoing maintenance. That's why we started with the real comprehensive maintenance plan of the whole district, >> right? >> And so kind of played the game and now it's >> now we're kind of in the middle of it. And then on the Senate bill, the management fund, same thing. Um, you know, when we got EMC and you're set next to our insurance agent, so don't shoot me down. But um, when it went to 1% of the assessed valuation, that's one one two million >> that we need to have in, you know, catastrophic >> event. And you don't have to look too far. You know, Greenfield and the tornado and winter set that >> um our our overall levy rate
was going down and the board shows over two years if they a little more management, we have that on hand now so we can cover that. So even if it gets into discussion like hey what about those districts that did that? Can we hold that we pull that portion out? >> Okay. I mean I mean I don't love touching management at all but yeah if you just look at it at what we have right now it does you have to know the nuance of it of the decisions that were made under the situation we're in a little bit. Does that make sense? >> It would make it more difficult to plan ahead. >> Yeah. Four year five years down the road. It would make it more difficult. >> Any other questions for Representative Sornson? >>
As always Bubba. If you need us we're here. If you need info, need data, let us know. >> It might come down to, you know, when when hopefully I don't need you guys on SSA. I and I might I might be sitting in caucus and there might be an opportunity and I might >> one of you up. I'll need quick turnaround. But with with the property tax thing, if I think that I can squeeze something in, it'll it'll need to be quick turn around. So, not to make you on call like doctors, but if you have input, that'd be >> I appreciate last time with the a bill is going through and you kind of just gave me a heads up and we real quick chance to just provide some thoughts. Yeah, appreciate >> really
appreciate that opportunity and >> it's been more challenging to be the voice of 30,000 people all at once than I thought, but I try to at least get you guys in there and get get said what needs to be said. So, >> thank you. Yeah. Thank you, sir. >> You can always reach out, too. If you don't mind, I'm probably gonna >> Okay, next up, uh, building level reports. Justin, I'll kick it to you. >> Yeah. So, we've got, uh, they're all linked in there. Um, so I'll go ahead. Why don't we start the elementary? Let Doug start. >> You betcha. Strate strategic priority number one. uh and creating student opportunities in the real world just getting them out and talking to kids, talking to other people. Um first grade was doing a American landmark
um presentation or project. They started out by practicing when this shaw third grade come down and uh talk to the kids and then we had 90ome um parents and adults come in uh and they all presented their projects to the parents and adults in first grade. So kind of cute and awesome watching these guys explain Liberty Bell and the crack and that everything feel and all that other fun stuff. Uh good deal. So then we move down to number two just uh building uh student opportunities in 21st learning. Uh third grade was working with DNA code and gene sequence. So you can kind of see in the right hand picture they got two uh DNA codes and then they mashed them together to make what that animal would look like whether it was red wings
or purple wings or little green creatures. Um but kind of working the DNA codes then just developing selfworth. Mr. Cam's now in PE and the kids are loving that. Uh he is also a big champion on building kids up which is great to have around the elementary. Uh, and then just building strong relationships with students and staff. Uh, for staff wise, we've been hiding these little snowflakes that you can see in the picture there. And it's like a scratch off ticket. So, if they find one, they get to scratch it off and then they get things like a cover your duty pass or a Plankco chip where they drop down the Plinko board and get a prize or genius days and things like that. So, trying to build some fun into our dold rooms of
January and February. We have we're kind of picking up the snowball. We had our CK's training too not too long ago and they got these coaches calls and um of course everybody's like, "Yeah, I don't want to do that." But then once one does it, it's like, "Oh, it wasn't so bad." And I was like, "Okay, that wasn't so bad. I learned a little bit about myself." So that's starting to pick up a little traction now, too. Uh so it's kind of fun to hear him talk about the calls uh they're getting with their coaches. So that's the elementary question. Good >> Julie. >> Uh so I highlighted for strategic priority number one some more of our project based learning that's happening. Fourth grade did a new project for us this year with national parks
and studied I'm not going to say right basically landscape of whatever the park was. They had to find a feature that was unique to the park and built models for it and they're still on display in the captivity if you get a chance to come on by. Also linked there and I believe Justin sent it to you in last week's update. Sixth grade focus on well the whole building is focused on communication this year in that piece of the pie when it comes to Pog. sixth grade team took sixth graders and we really wanted to share with parents why these skills were important. So, they put the video together. Um, if you haven't had a chance to watch it, it's maybe two minutes long. Um, but they the kids did a nice job explaining why
those pieces are important for them to have as learners. Um, going on down to strategic priority number two, looking at uh 21st century skills, the Husky leadership has really just taken off this year. Kids are doing things um in the building that we often are taking even for granted. Um morning announcements are all studentled. The piece that we added this year, our school counselor, Miss Brockmire, has kids who are writing staff affirmations and she chooses one randomly every week and the child will read the staff affirmation and then they hand deliver it to the teacher afterwards and it's been a really nice way to celebrate staff. Um, I've also got our character champions up there for you to see. Uh, let's in uh strategic priority number three, just building the connections to self and community.
We did a a revisit when students came back from winter break of our social contract. We also did it as a staff and it was really a nice opportunity for us to see, okay, maybe we had 15 words listed on our first social contract and when we reviewed it, we said, okay, these are just things that are kind of embedded into practice. We're doing these really well. Uh, so students and staff rewrote social contracts. And then I've got another uh winter best buddies um activity. This week is best buddies week. So, if you're there this week, um we'll have our lunch groups going and then on Friday we have our large group activity. The last one I just included, this is the narrative and the photos that were for our CPH application for National Showcase
um award if we did receive our email that we've been nominated will now end April if we receive it for the third consecutive year. But I thought you would like to see kind of what the application process looks like, how we write our narrative and share our story because it really is it's called evidence of impact when you do the application. So it focuses on the practices and routines and the relationships and how that impacts students. Um the last two things that I have on there this Wednesday PTO will be handing out cocoa and coffee and circle drive. Um so if you do hear that maybe it's a little bit slower drop off. Um it it potentially they say they have it down so it could be a little bit slower but I anticipate it'll
be a good a good slow. Uh and then we'll have our schoolwide assembly and you're always invited to come and see those as well. >> Any questions? Julie's last one. >> All right. Priority one. I have an update on our showcase. Um we have about 120 students confirmed uh to participate. We have uh about 100 100% of our staff um teaching staff has students presenting a project from their class which is great. Um I touch on our professional development, our PLC alignment supporting this work. Um teams have been working hard together uh putting together um kind of a template for students to use when they're preparing for their presentations. So that's coming along well. Um I also highlighted if you scroll down Jim Height did a Vietnam vet um project where students u created questions
to ask members of the winter community and also one of the grandparents of a seventh grader who came from Wisconsin. So that was really nice. They came they were there all all six sections that Jim teaches. Um the students got to ask questions and learn about their experiences and they're going to turn that into a museum exhibit. um I believe. So that was that was really neat and saw a lot of profile graduate skills being used there and it was nice having the community and Vietnam vets recognized there as well. Uh strategic priority uh two on the 21st century skills. We have our public speaking workshop that's uh coming up on the 17th. Um met with our clinicians last week, went through uh what their day will look like. That schedule's pretty much together. will
be sharing that out soon uh with the clinicians and students. That'll be um a powerful day where kids will get feedback on the project that they're going to present at the showcase and then use that feedback to refine the projects and improve them for the evening of March 3rd. Um shooting priority three uh the idea of self-worth and connections. Um we still are doing everything through this lens of trying to be the best junior high in Iowa. Um and by being part of something bigger than themselves creates connections and self-worth. So I shared our scoreboard with you for our um two uh data we track um attendance behavior grades and the accumulation of differencemaker dollars. That's kind of our metrics because we know how our progress is. Um in uh term two uh data was
was given. We did not meet our goals. Um but we are on our way and this to to drive our work in the building and to keep kids engaged in um everything we're doing. Um and then lastly, uh building um authentic relationships between student staff and community. I did highlight um a project that again Mr. Hightop is doing. It's called the global pantry fund. This is really neat. He's been doing this for a few years where they uh package 20,000 meals for meals for the heartlands. This is part of his global hunger unit. Um this year they are taking it a step further and they've created the junior high global pantry fund. And the goal is um through fundraising to raise the $3,500 to purchase the 20,000 meals. And then anything extra that is collected
um Mr. High top is going to work with students and have them like critically um examine different um uh charity groups that the kids will select and then determine to where to allocate uh funds to different um hunger projects and different groups of people who uh are uh in need. So, we're excited about that. It's kind of a a big initiative, but really an opportunity for students to connect with people um outside of school. And then I have just a number of dates here. On the 17th is our workshop. The 3rd is the showcase. On the 4th of March, we're taking kids to ABC Iowa. The 27th we're going to Agra Vision uh for a second employer visit. And on the 14th of April, we're going to come back for a campus visit. >> Josh
0363500 that you needed. >> He's he's getting there. He's close. He's got about 28 2900 bucks. >> He's been rotary. He's been an optimist. He's been to Hawaiian. >> Yep. And everyone's been very generous. And then he also is doing a um a fundraiser through link through the PTO. >> Um and people have been generous. I think we have 22 individual donors. And then he is heading to um Pizza Ranch. He's going to have some students come and they're going to do like bus tables and they'll have like a donation cup there. So um and then he's going to the woman's giving circle in March. Um pitch that idea there. So, he's he's getting there, but it's a big idea. Um, but I think it could really very powerful to get some money in there,
have the kids being connected to something they've solved. >> Thank you, sir. >> Thank you, >> K. So, priority one for us, uh, we have our career fair on Wednesday. You guys are welcome to come over. It's in the afternoon, started about 12:00 about 50 businesses, colleges, military, branches. Uh they'll all be in the comp gym. Um so our students will do a couple different things. They'll go through and visit with all the different booths and then they'll have three sessions in the afternoon that they sign up for that kind of goes into a little bit more depth. Um, so for example, if you're interested in HVAC, listening to somebody talk about what HVAC is, what kind of training do you need, what does your job look like, sort of so kind of exposive uh
to those things. In addition, we've got upcoming college trips. We've got Iowa State on the 17th, DMAC on the 24th, and then as the spring comes, I think we're in we're at Simpson on like the 5th, maybe the 4th of March. But as the spring comes around, uh, we do more and more trips for for students to get them on campus. We got that. The learning skills priority two, um, the student council put on a really cool assembly with our cyber safety um, around cyber safety. So, I did set it all up. In fact, I had to call and reaffirm with officer McLaren that they had indeed called him. They got that all lined up. So we had officer McLaren and then special agent train come over and talk to the kids about dangers of
maybe posting online some of those things understanding cyber safety brought in an electronic an ESD dog electronic sniffing I don't know sniffing is the right word anyway dog that can sniff out the electronic devices which is kind of neat as well so 100% set up by our student council uh and it's part of the national project or statewide project excuse me uh link there if you guys want to learn more about that. Uh priority three uh to develop selfworth. We got a really cool accomplishment. Our band was selected to perform at Iowa Band Masters uh Association the 99th annual conference in May. Um so that's a pretty big deal. I know we spent a lot of time recording and re-recording and recording again to make sure we got it all right uh to be selected.
And so my understanding is we're the only 3A band in the clinician portion if I was think I probably butchered it but we're the 3A band. The rest are all the 4 band. So that's a really cool accomplishment. >> I think this is the same one if you remember three years back that they can only apply every three years once they're selected. In the last I think three or four times that they could they were selected the first time then have to wait three years to apply. So they didn't make the big band they made. >> So like we can apply mixture. >> Yeah. >> So what are people going to throw pieces at us >> and it'll be like they're going to clinic us but they're going to clinic the people directing us. >>
Warm up band. >> Yeah. >> Like a warmup band. >> Yeah. >> They'll all leave for the main attraction though. knock their socks off. >> All right. Uh we had two wonderful senior nights for wrestlers, basketball players. Um so our winter winter nights went well. Uh you know, honoring those kids is always a detail. Uh and then at the high school, like every week is something in February, which is awesome. Uh so this week's our Valentine's week with different dress up days, activities. Next week is random acts of kindness week. So, our rack club that's led by uh guidance counselors and some students. They have different activities. Then the last week in February is FFA week. Um which is I know our staff's favorite when we have the FFA breakfast, drive your tractor to school
deal. Uh just we hope for good weather that day because it can be brutal if it's cold. So, uh all those things kind of help us get through get through February which we know could be a really long short month. Uh so, it's a good thing. Priority 4, uh, it tastes a summer game, uh, on Thursday, uh, the 22nd. A fun environment. Um, it's a good community event. Uh, we we rolled out the Luxo. Uh, we we've even made upgrades to the show a little bit. >> I heard that. >> Senior night. Just keep getting better. >> Yep. >> Yeah. It's kind of a pretty cool thing. Uh, this past week was National School Counselor Week. So just want to acknowledge publicly the work Cindy and Kathy do at the high school which is a
tremendous work between college career planning, social emotional learning and then also you know working with staff to get kids in the right spots. Uh we got our parent teacher conferences the 25th. Um and then we actually he reached out to us. So special agent Colin Strickland he's from the DEA and he is really wanting to get involved in the school. Um he's come in already and spoke to our CSI class about how they process crime scenes. Uh he went across the hall in chemistry and talked about the need for chemistry in the DEA office and understanding what compounds are in the different drugs and how this isn't just you know what what makes up this but understanding how the how chemistry impacts that. uh he is on board to do a um a anti-drug drinking
uh vaping talk with our kids on Monday, April 13th, which is the Monday before prom. Uh in addition, we'll have a uh we'll have a vehicle out front of the high school um and be sending out different emails throughout the week just talking about the dangers of impaired driving, uh drunk driving, that sort of thing, just to try to help bring more uh more awareness around that. Uh and uh yeah, prom this year we're actually hosting at the Naughty Pine, so it's a little little bit out of town. Um so once again, the need for maybe some of those reminders uh while you're a little ways away is a good good thing. So I'm coming uh we're touring some auditoriums tomorrow, Mr. Gross and I and the music staff and some members from Bray uh
to make sure we understand that career fair. Like I said, we got a band concert on Thursday. You guys want to come for a concert? Um, and I think I've gone through almost everything. 10th grade mock interviews on the 20th of February and should be a name. >> There he questions for Mr. Smith. >> Thank you, sir. >> Awesome. Thanks. >> Um, so for the strate report, it was TLC. So Cory's going to talk a little bit. We started talking a little bit about how maybe to tweak or adjust that plan for next year. So, >> yep. So, normally in February is when we bring like any changes. We are in the process of getting some feedback from staff and from the people who are involved and so we'll we'll be ready for that next
month. But basically what people are up to right now, instructional coaches just finished up dayto days with uh both ELA and uh math at the elementary level, K6 level. Phenomenal conversations looking at data, looking at decisions, interventions, helping the principles navigate those conversations with teams. That's been really good. year one and year two teachers are off getting getting some really good support through mentoring. And one of the things I want to highlight is what one of the groups are up to right now. Uh this is the district lead teacher position for the profile of a graduate work. And so here's where we are at and this is the work that's being supported by Andrea Stewart and our principles and myself and Justin and and it's just it's a team effort and it's been really fun
to navigate from a blank document to where it's at right now. And so that's really exciting and and where this group is going to leave at the end of the year. One of the deliverables is to really look at systemically where we want to be with this profile of a graduate at K3 46 78 912 because we're ready. We're ready to we've got a large team that's had a hand in literally the I can statements and the and all of the language and all of that and we're ready now to start to look at okay what do we want from this from a building standpoint and so this is one of the last conversations we had a month ago and we're going to continue this conversation and one of the goals by our April meeting
is to establish at each level and level could be K6 712 level could be K3 46 78 912 or any configuration of that, but really options of what we want to do with this profile of a graduate work. And so what this document is is what the group went through last month and went through pros and cons of all four options of really what this profile of a graduate work could be. So one of them is option A, which is an annual portfolio defense. So, for example, this could be at the end of the school year where a student has curated artifacts. Staff have helped them navigate that because the biggest goal with this profile of a graduate is that it's not just some cute thing that's on the wall that this is living and
breathing in everyday classrooms. And what does that look like, sound like, and feel like? And on top of that, are kids and staff seeing growth over time throughout these competencies? So, it's not just some buzzword or whatever. and that this is part of the experience that we're putting in front of kids and our staff. So, one of the options we're looking at is a portfolio and there's some benefits and things like that about access and learner agency and visib visibility, excuse me. Second option we looked at is an exhibition of learning. So, this would be like showcase evenings, things like that. And so, like is this something we want from our from our profile of a graduate? Junior High has has has dived into some of this work with the learning showcases where kids can
show off projects. Kids can come and and and grow and learn and show their growth over time. This is another option that we're looking at with the profile of a graduate. You can go to the option C if you want uh the competency checkpoint. So, this was more like a conference format where kids and staff and parents and whoever can sit down and start to look at, okay, here's where I'm at. Here's what I've met. here are the things that I've done. This one is less flashy. However, this really digs into the student owning this process because at the end of the day, that's the wildly important goal with this is that the students own this process and own these skill sets. And then the last one is where these pieces are embedded within coursework.
And so just like standards um that are embedded in coursework, these skill sets and dispositions and mindsets are also embedded as well. One of the things that our staff just finished in January was they were able to showcase with other staff members a lesson that they've built around the profile of a graduate was able to get some feedback and things like that. And that went really really well and it was really neat to see staff proud of the things that they're doing. and we are at that point where okay so we know the what and now we're getting into the how and then another option is is looking at hybrids of of of one or two of these options. So we are wrestling in a good way with the idea of okay so what do
we want to what do we want from this and what do we want this to be? Um, we've been talking for years about could this become parent teacher conferences, a a better version of that. We've talked about things like Seesaw and Infinite Campus and how parents are able to see some of the everyday things more often. Does this give us an opportunity? Junior high's paved the way a little bit with the showcase comp. So, we've been able to see what works, what doesn't. They've even tweaked their processes and things like that. And so, this is the work that we've really been engaged in and are super excited about. But we're hoping by the April meeting that we really walk away with a goal for next year at each building. Here's how we want to deliver
on this profile of a graduate work and then get it embedded in our instructional routines. And so how this uh plays into TLC. One of the conversations we've been having as a TLC team is a large portion of the people involved in a teacher leadership position have been part of this profile of a graduate work. and we're getting to the point where we don't need as many eyes on it. We still need to monitor it and continue to do it and we're seeing other areas in the district that staff are wanting to lead. So, one of the conversations we're having behind the scenes of is do we look at creating multiple pathways for teachers to lead in different areas across the district and not go all in on one team looking at the profile of
a graduate because we've been working for two years on this process. And now we're ready to not give up on that, but to really give that to the buildings and then support it behind the scenes with less eyes on that. And there's just been some excitement and some uh conversation about staff wanting to lead in different areas like capturing kids hearts, like authentic learning and get some professional learning and deliver some professional learning at each of the buildings and things like that. And so we're having that conversation right now. We're hoping in March we'll have a proposal for what we want that to look like. But really that's what we've been up to for for this year. And it's just been really neat and really powerful to see our efforts come and we're seeing videos
like middle school showed where kids are not just reflecting on the standard work, but they're reflecting on how they are performing as a collaborator, as a creative thinker, using the language, using the processes that have come to fruition. And that's just been super and that's just one example of many and just super excited about the future of this work. question. >> Thank you. >> A lot of good stuff often get big. >> Yeah. And we might see a variety and we might see a hybrid of that. But what what I'm excited about is we're really truly like starting to navigate. Okay, what do we want as a K3 or a K6 or and and then just now that all of these things will start coming together. Super excited about that. >> And it'll be the
same for all all the buildings. It could, it might not. That's that's what we're wrestling with. Does a kid need to do a portfolio K12? That those but that these teacher leaders are going to be part of that decision-making process. And we've already started that. We actually started that a month ago and we're going to continue to navigate this until the end of the year. >> Any other questions? >> No. Thanks. Okay. Thank you, Corey. >> Uh moving into the consent agenda minutes. So, we have minutes there from the January meeting, January 12th. We have paid bills. Everybody has a chance to review those. Jill, anything you wanted to point out to us or is anybody any questions for Jill? >> More tuition bills. >> I say a lot of tuition and then aa pass
through and >> any other questions on those? Okay. Um, personnel report is presented. Did I just lose Wi-Fi >> or did >> Well, we saw the personnel report. Hope you all looked at that beforehand. We got some citizen coaches and then >> resation on there for which we'll Oh, there it is. There we go. Um there >> probably not the only board meeting night using probably a lot of >> Yeah. So uh citizen coaches also dishes with junior high numbers that happen. We wait till we actually get kids to show up and then we decide. So there was something added there. Um yeah resignations. Uh Radar's decided to resign. You know >> for how many years? >> 25 I think. Yeah, it's been a while. >> It's been like 26 years. Okay. >> Yeah. So,
um, so he's decided this is going to be the end. Um, Jen Simon's going to separate elementary to something different. Then Ben Stackline is is moving on um for some family reasons. So, we did post for uh Ben's position. Um, we, if you remember last year, we reduced a half of a solo. So, we're really not in a position to to not fill that one. Um, as I mentioned with regards to radars, we're we did reach out to Waldinger and to see if there's a um a service agreement with them and how that plays into our decision on that position. Um, if we decide we need to move forward, we'd probably try and get somebody on board um around right after spring breakish or April to to shadow him to see what's going on. So
that's kind of that is um uh yeah and then we'll post for the elementary um secretary here probably March sometime because they don't start until beginning of next year technically. So >> maybe before we Britney hasn't accepted I don't know if they need >> under >> the letter of intent. >> Intent. >> Yeah. Oh, >> sorry. >> Yeah. So, those are theirs. Any questions? >> So, do we want to remove >> only a letter of intent? >> I say it is just Okay. >> It's not a contract. >> We approved the letter intent. We did offer. >> Okay. >> So, you're approving offer. So, you still turn down >> open enrollment. Uh Jill provided us with that worksheet. There are 12. Did you say 12? That's not right. >> That's 11. >> 11. >> Math.
Not my strong suit. Um 11 out and then five in for the next year. Basic. It looks like all them are for next year. So we'll I think the recommendation is approve those financial report. >> Yeah. If you looking at our expenditures, we're just a little higher than our three-year average. Um, but still in that same range. Um, but in our revenues are just a little bit higher as well. So, um, still on track for seven months in. So, anybody have any questions? >> I think that ch like just I thought about those numbers like why we seem a little higher. I think we just tuitions come out differently than they used It used to be like we all kind of got them at the same time and now >> they build us >> like
our open the open enrollment stuff. It's all just randomly anymore. It's not nearly as yet, >> right? It's not nearly as uniform. It used to be kind of we always got it the same chunk each year. >> We're starting to get now too and I haven't gotten all those yet either. >> And yeah, everything just keeps getting >> it throws it off. statement of position. Anything Jill? >> I didn't see anything. Lots of numbers. Any questions on those? No. Contract Snider and Associates. >> Yeah. So, this is their proposal to update the legal description for the district. It's been a long process to get to where find out who would do this and how. So, this is their proposal to do it. >> Nobody really knows where it is. >> Uh, we looked. Yeah, >>
we went back through what we have here in this office, the big heavy box, couldn't find it. Hollers uh said they don't do it. Asked for recommendations. They recommended center said they've worked with them in the past. So, that's what they'll charge us to update the the legal description for the district. So, >> okay. >> School photography. Yeah. So, we put out an RFP for uh uh school pictures. Um kind of been with Jos for a little bit and there were some some things that came up. Just thought it was a good time to put it out. Um you'll see the uh the bid tab was who turned it in, who didn't. And then ultimately, we would recommend Live Touch uh for uh based on the parameters that on the contract moving forward. Um a
little cheaper. Uh they do offer more incentives. They do bring back the class composite which was a big thing that did that went away near Johnston. So um all those things after reviewing that's who we'd recommend to take school pictures. >> Um next any questions on that? Okay. Next is our food service >> management com what is the M4? >> So yes this is our fourth and final renewal. So, we can only do that four times and then we will go through the RFP process next year. >> Does that mean we get Does that mean we get to try food again? >> You do get to try food. >> Hey, I'll volunteer again, Cory. >> Unless Gina wants to volunteer with us. >> That's a phenomenal day. >> It's a great day. It's travel day.
>> Oh, we know. >> Phenomenal day. >> May stuff. >> Yeah. >> So, yes, we have to start the RFP process early this year. um I think in November, December we have to require that and then I hear it's a very hard to process. >> Yes. Lots of lots of parts and pieces, >> big contract, lots of stuff they submit, >> stuff that goes to the state and back and forth. >> Pretty much it is a long process. So, >> okay. So, 4.1%. Okay. >> And then next, the musical usage agreements. >> Yeah. So, uh, in light of the auditorium being on a commission, um, we kind of went and looked at, uh, three places. So, the stage went to, um, oh, the old high school. What's the name of the >> the apartment complex?
>> Yeah. Apartment complex. Uh, and then the warehouse. And after they reviewed those, they thought the warehouse was probably the best setup. They've got the stuff that they need. They'll allow us to use it um for extended period of time there. So, uh, that's the agreement to use it for musical. >> Any questions on that one? >> Anything I missed on that? You were the one that kind of led the tours. Anything? >> No. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> All right. If no other discussion on those, I would enter a motion to approve the consent agenda. >> Motion by Ross. Is there a second? >> I'll second. >> Second by Gina. Any other discussion? All those in favor say I. >> Oppose. Same sign. Motion carries. Next up on old business, we have the second
reading of the series 100 and 200 on their review cycle. Uh we looked at these last month and these just need approved on their second reading to make them official. >> Did you tell >> I think 104 >> 104 >> has a has the the word students needs to be taken out. It's just not highlighted in there. >> Okay. We do our best. J >> I just Well, and a lot of times I >> Yeah, I'll I'll get it before we put on the on the website. Doesn't change the meaning of it. So, yeah, I will that get that fixed. >> Oh, I see where you're at down there. That Okay. Yeah. Okay. Um I would entertain a motion to approve those on their second reading. I'll make that motion. >> Motion by Gina. Is
there a second? >> Second by Jeremy. Any other discussion? All those in favor say I. >> Oppose. Same sign. Motion carries. Uh new business budget guarantee resolution. >> Something that we try to do every year. Well, we do do it every year. It's just common process. Um this year John Parker's asked that that we have an actual form resolution form that has to be signed doesn't have to see the whole set of minutes. It's just the resolution itself. So that's what's in there for you to sign. So >> in a two second nutshell, can you explain what the resolution the budget guarantee means for the new board members? >> In case we go over the budget, you know, go over our um budget that we have that guaranteed piece of it. So if that's just
in policy, the resolution that we have to follow that stuff. Uh actually this budget guarantee is in the event that um decreasing enrollment your new money doesn't get you to >> Matt Sure >> doesn't get you to um 1% in growth then it allows you as a board to levy your local property tax to get you to 1%. It's a stop gap through decreasing enrollment. So, um, you're just saying that should you need to in 2627, uh, that you would, um, you can do that. You have to have a board resolution to it. And as Jill mentioned, we pass it every year. Um, >> we've passed it every year. I've been on board. >> Yep. And so at 1.75, uh, you would be on budget. We would need it. And at 2%, you would not.
>> Correct. >> It allows you to do that. >> What's the difference in actual dollars? >> 13,000, I think. Remember, is that right? It would be. I pulled it out of my head. Yeah, I was driving. >> I'm pulling out of my >> Yeah, it's probably that's about right. Probably. >> Yeah. >> Um again, just when you're experiencing decreasing enrollment, it's uh it allows you to get at least 1% on that new money. Um if the SSO comes in lower than than you need to do that, um again, gives you a year to kind of adjust that, but it is all local property tax. Yeah. Generated. >> Yeah. When's the last time we used it? >> Uh not this year, but the year ago. No, we didn't use it this year. Yeah, this year >>
we've used it the last >> two years, I believe. And that that was the first time we'd used it for quite a while. >> Yeah, >> it's been two of the last four. >> Yeah. >> Two of the last four uh through decreasing enrollment. >> Yeah, it's all Yeah. due to that number that >> number of students. >> Any other discussion or questions regarding the budget guarantee resolution? Not I would entertain a motion to approve the resolution. >> Motion by Tim. Is there a second? >> Second by Ross. Any other discussion? >> All those in favor say I. >> I. >> Oppose. Same sign. Motion carries. White team lock in. >> We've done this every year when Mr. Smith this year. I thought probably a good idea for the board to know that we're having
students stay spend the night in the building. So, um, again, something they've done, try to be build some team building. Uh, they're scheduling till Friday, February 20th. Um, just again to know that you're aware that that's going to happen and get your approval. >> They've been doing a lock in for years. >> I mean, >> I'll try to remember to get in front of you every year now. >> Aware and know and and can approve it. So, >> any questions? Not. It looks like they're asking us to approve it. So, I'd entertain a motion to approve the request. >> Motion by Jeremy. Is there a second? >> I'll second. >> Second by Gina. Any other discussion? All those in favor say I. >> I. >> Oppose. Same sign. Motion carries. Next up, approval of the
Winter High School 2627 course guide. >> Yeah, I'll just kind of tee it up and I can't take it. But every year is asked to approve the course guide. These are the courses that will made available to the students. Um ultimately not all of them will may be offered if there's not interest but this is what we'll students have a choice to choose from as they build their schedule >> already this year >> changes >> wasted credit >> so when you looked everything that was in green was a change or addition there was a few things in there um that we need to oh now I give you that sheet too of all the different >> thank you for that sheet I really appreciate the cliff >> version so a couple of classes that that
we are adding Um we took >> we looked at a new u yoga and walking class as a PE option. We kids were really interested in that. Terry has run some like little mini units on yoga and and kids have really taken that awesome PE option. Um they also are looking at and I think we'll have enough uh for a sports officiating class um that will get kids >> offici >> right there be able to do this. Yeah, I think we have 16 kids right now that signed up for it >> through ref reps if I remember that correctly program. >> Um, >> all athletics or are they focusing on basketball? >> We asked them to pick two. >> Okay. >> We asked them to pick two. So I think our big ones with football,
basketball, soccer, baseball. >> I think from the 16 kids those are the four. So the idea then is ultimately working with Nick is how do we have a student who does this then go and actually do a competition at like a junior high level and partner up with an official you know in football have them stand by maybe Randy McDonald and learn and then rotate around each quarter learn the different spots so they can they can start to get into the sport and do that. But yeah, so excited about some of those. And then some of it's uh verbiage like in um some of the science classes and math classes. It's more to try to help kids decide what math course they need to take and if that's necessary. So for example, you might be
really good at math, but calcer that you're going to go into. So, you know, just show a different pathway for something. And the plan here is we'll start um if it's approved tonight, we'll start with our juniors on February 18th, sophomores at 25th, freshman 4th, and then the eighth graders March 12. So we'll have allers by early part of March and start building schedule. So >> any questions for Cam on that? >> Thank you for the hard work. >> A lot of work. And thank you for the cliff notes. That's very helpful. >> Hearing nothing. Um, are no other questions or concerns? I would entertain a motion to approve the 2627 course guide as presented. >> Motion by Ross. Is there a second? >> Second by Tim. Any other discussion? All those in favor say
I. >> I. >> Oppose. Same sign. Motion carries. Uh, next up is review board policy 505.05 due to graduation requirement changes. >> Yeah, it's an this one is reviewed annually. So, it's on the sheet that you saw annually uh annually in December. But then Cam mentioned to me that he'd like to make some change regarding health. And so I gave you I'll let him explain why, but I also gave you the chapter 12 language that tells you what it is and the fact that health you have to offer, but it's a local decision if it's actually required for graduation. Just so you can see that that it is an option that the board can decide. I'll let Kim walk through kind of the proposed change and why. So, so every student in seventh, eighth grade
is uh given health as part of chapter 12. When they get to high school, it's an offer on teach requirement. So, it's it's actually just we're required to offer one section of health for those who those who want to have it. Um, so that might be somebody that's uh interested in pursuing that field. Um, and then it doesn't keep us for like when we get a senior that moves in maybe from a different school where this wasn't a requirement, they end up then taking it like online and bridges because they don't want to go in with freshman and take help. It's just kind of like a little roadblock that's that's probably not necessary. So, they're getting their CPR in in freshman PE. So, they're getting that they're getting some basic first aid stuff to freshman
PE, but they're getting the majority of their health in junior high. So I mean the way the policy reads now is that your students are already taking it. >> Yeah. >> So it was already kind of covered. So it's almost like a redundant redundant need there. Um and then the other part is the new legislation around the citizenship test. We probably need to have in in policy that just says that they need to pass that citizenship test to to graduate high school. So So what it does from the credit standpoint is it just it makes it still 52. We didn't drop the credits. It just eliminates them having to use one on health. They could use it in shop or whatever else they would use it. >> Has the state provided you with the citizenship
test? >> No, there was a pilot that Cory said that Ballard we signed up via the pilot weren't selected. Um you remember the numbers outside your head, Cory, how they did on that? >> They without any preparation or studying about half their kids pass it immediately. They they looked at giving it to sophomores um just for the sake of if they don't pass it, they have a time to pass it, but the it's supposedly we're supposed to get it at some point very soon and be administering it. >> I think they they give it to all their high school kids, remember correct? >> Yeah, they gave it to all their Yep. They gave it to all their kids, but about each grade level, they looked at about about 50 to 60% of their kids passed
it without some of them without even having had government yet. So, it just kind of gave us some ideas on like >> Yeah, >> I used to I used to do the one a day. >> Oh, yeah. Class. >> Yep. >> You're going to have to prepare for it. So, >> I don't know why it's been so long to see it. It took him a long time to get it developed and then there was a pilot. We we >> applied to be a pilot school and just weren't selected. Um >> it was taking a long time to >> Yep. Every district in the state applied to be a pilot so they only gave it to like >> I think it was only went to three. Yeah, it was it only went through a hands. >>
Yeah, I think it's it's one of those where I don't think they have the manpower to run it with 300 school districts. So, >> the current plan for that is I think we're going to do it if you're in person taking US government, you'll do it as far as a class. >> Yeah, >> we'll just have to figure it out. For anybody that's taken it like virtually or some other students, we we have to we'll have to work with them on on what that looks like for those guys when we take it. One potential additional change to this that could come back is the bill that's requiring a year long of government. Um it doesn't increase the number of social studies credits you have to have. It just says that one of them has or
you have to have a full year of government. So if they did that US history it's really going to limit what they could take on electives and also um on our teaching side limit what we're able to offer for this too. >> So watch that if that comes out. I'm guessing we'd probably I would hope we get a year. >> Yeah. >> Or longer to make that uh switch. >> Government a whole year. >> They do. >> Yeah. One of the bills. Yeah. One of the bills out there, >> right? >> Um >> so we just have to watch that and then >> if it's four next year, we have to bring this policy back again, tweak it. I'm hoping it would year. >> It's a process. >> It' be the first semester probably. >>
I knew that's what you were thinking, but ever for the whole year. Anyway, that's kind of the background. >> Take out your notebook as fast as you can. >> Yeah. >> Okay. Any other discussion on policy 505.05 with the changes? If not, I entertain a motion to can we approve this on the we need to do a first and second reading since it's a policy change. >> You can wave or do you want to wave? You wave the second reading and approve it and I say bring it back within three months and that'd be fine if if government doesn't change that would allow Cam to move forward with >> with his planning. So you want to approve its final reading by my verbiage on that one's hard to first reading and then you have to
I think then we have to bring it back for review within three months. >> Would anybody like to make that motion? >> I'll make that motion. >> Approve on the first read by waving the review within three months. He also just reviewed December. >> We just looked at it not long ago. >> Yeah. >> Is there a second on that motion? >> We'll see. >> Any other discussion? >> Motion by Gina, second by Ross. All those in favor say I. >> Oppose. Same sign. Motion carries. Uh Justin, first reading of the review of board policy 300 series. >> Yeah, I didn't get through 400. Got through about halfway, but I did get through 300. So, here's the first reading of the 300. And then again, u I included any policies that have changes to them.
And then the document that I have kind of my notes as to why the change for you to review. So um really work I'll work to get through the 400 and get them here hopefully in next month about halfway through them. >> Anybody have any questions on those uh six and his worksheet? I mean they looked all good to me. There's no discussion. I would entertain a motion to approve the first reading of the review of the series 300 as presented. Motion. >> Motion by Jeremy. Is there a second? >> A second. >> Second by Gina. Any other discussion? All those in favor say I. >> Oppose. Same sign. Motion carries. Uh singing Valentine's fundraiser. >> Yeah. So Jared had a conversation about this and whether it should come or not. It is run uh
that's run by our PTO. Only reason they decided is that they are going to have kids go out during the day to do it. Um, so students will be leaving that day during uh Friday to >> PTO. It's the vocal booster. >> Sorry, I did say PTO. It is vocal boosters. Um um having our kids do it during the day. They didn't do it last year. Probably should just have board approval that you know that they're going to be doing that during that day. Um good for the organization. It's good for the kids. Like John said they learned three new uh pieces of music. Is that right? Yeah. To to be prepared. So, um, again, think it's a good thing, but just the fact that they're going to be pulling kids during the day and
having them helping them fundraising price. >> They're going to go out. >> They are. Yeah. They sign up. Did you sign up yet? Was Jackie getting one or not? >> Maybe Jack 40 anniversary this year. That covered. >> All right. Any other questions? >> Right. 40 years she's been up with him. Um, >> you said the other day >> I wouldain a motion to approve the singing Valentine fundraiser. >> Sorry. Go ahead. >> I'm going to give it to Tim. Is there a second? Second by Jeremy. All those in favor say I. >> Oppose. Same sign. Motion carries. Go forth and spread some love. Approval of Green Touch Club. >> Yeah. So, this is a new club that the students would like to start. They threw it at Nick. it won't be paid via stipen
typically how we've done these is let them run for a couple years year or two see if it >> doesn't grow to where it warrants um uh you know paying them for their time. Does that make sense? So they're just asking permission >> uh again that the board's aware that and what the club's going to be meeting about. So um they filled out the paperwork, Nick signed it, met with them, felt fine moving forward. So, any questions? It was I they have a very niceformational sheet that last a very they got some good things to work on. >> Any questions, concerns? If not, I entertain a motion to approve the Green Touch Club application as presented. >> I'll make that motion. >> Motion by Gina. Is there a second? >> Second by Tim. All those
in favor say I. >> I. >> Oppose. Same sign. Motion carries. >> Board member reports. Brooks, you a little more prepared this month. I mean, you're not thrown at it day of. So, >> um, we've got some fun stuff coming up. We have a social coming up on Sunday. Um, from Smash Parks. That's going to be pretty fun. Yeah. And then we have a council exchange visit with Bon Durant. We're looking at the 10th of March. Um, so what happens is we'll go there. Some of our members will and some of them will come to us. Um, and we'll just kind of see how different councils work at different schools. Um, on March 12th, we go to Norwok for the Southwestern Leadership Conference. So, it'll be good. And then we're really just working on the
state project. Um, trying to get that done and turned in. And then mother sun dance is on the 27th, so we're starting to get work done on that. >> Perfect. Thanks, Brooks. Jeremy, anything? >> Really? Spent the weekend at District Swim and kids all did a really good job. >> So, it was good. Seasons. Awesome. >> I went out and experienced the Hype Light show. >> Oh. On the at the in the tuxedo. Yeah. >> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And brought her back to my coffee group the next morning and the results were mixed. I think very kind of the age group thing. I thought it was cool. A lot of the older guys, >> we'll put their pictures on the floor. They'll love it. >> They'll love it. >> Put anchor in. >> They'll love
it. They'll be okay. >> That's how the reviews go up then. >> I thought it was really good. >> Cool. >> Gina, >> I just have been in the buildings a little bit more, been out and about. Appreciate everybody's work. Ross, >> I experienced taste this summer and have been on the basketball board for that. It was kind of nice because we had junior high basketball going on as well. So, we got a lot of North Pole >> trickle in is it was a big crown with Adele and always fun to >> host Adele and do something like that. So, >> yeah, >> I too like the Luxo. Hoping for some LED court lights so that way we can for other activities. Maybe that'd be kind of nice. talk about for prom lines. Can they
use it for can I put something together for grand bars? They've talked about whether or not it be used for that. >> Almost every team that we've played is reset afterwards. So, >> yeah, >> it's much better on the home side than it is on the visitor side. >> Absolutely. >> I've seen it on both sides. >> Is it Reed and Steve are doing that? >> Yeah. Um they they just get better time that they get with it. So it'll just keep getting better. Yeah. >> I was just sorry. >> No, go ahead. >> Ultimately is to get the kids. >> I was gonna say the kids. Yeah. >> Reed and Steve. I think the first one Steve said was about 8 to 10 hours. He said this last one he got between four and
five. And now that he knows all the tricks and stuff he's like we could that could a student could do this. >> Yeah. 20 minutes. >> Yeah. Fair enough. >> I was gonna say spent a lot of time legislatively. I you know try to follow all those uh with this hat and then the state board but just so you know there's a lot of things going on so read those updates that ISB sends out on Fridays I is >> what and both so yeah >> but there may be a time I reach out to you and say hey I need you we might want to call somebody you know call Bubba or Sinclair and a lot of moving parts and pieces right now at the state house so all you got >> yeah so a
few things um you probably aware of what's kind of playing out in Atlantic right now if you're watching the news and um just kind of sparked the conversation in here again about really communicating staff on how to communicate with students. Um we tell them every year I send an email and afterwards that really should be text individual student include a parent, include a coach, include the ad. Um a lot of our coach do a nice job of using you know like a team reach or remind app that goes to everybody. Um uh and through that conversation, our conference talked about several of going to a move to Parent Square. Um they listened to them a little bit about it. They'll be at this conference that we're going to >> doing a demo with them tomorrow
afternoon. >> Yeah. So Corey, they reached out to Corey, too. So we're exploring that. Does it make sense or not? Um just to keep our kids safe and our and our adults safe on kidding. So we'll I'll keep you updated on as that moves forward. Is that something you think we need a a policy on >> potentially? U I spent some time two years ago, Corey. Um and put together a social media guide uh for staff. I worked with allers and other districts and just kind of reminded them about what they post online and communicating and it pulls in relevant board policies. Um, you know, Nick's part of Nick's presentation, I know he talks to staff about interacting with kids and and shouldn't be one-on-one, all of those things. Um, I understand the convenience of
it. I do. Um, and yet, um, just for their sake and the kids sake, >> um, we tried rooms and just sold and underdelled. >> Yeah, the roll out. >> The guy we worked with, >> um, didn't work there with him much after that. Um, but it just didn't go well to the point that our staff were so turned off by it and our parents so turned off by it we punted on it. We didn't renew the contract for this third year. Um, listening to Adele, listening to Ballard, I think even North Pole maybe they felt like this was a better option. Um, ADM's talking about using as their website as well. I don't want to do that. I think our website's really good. Um, and B was like, "We're not switching websites either, but
we are going to the strictly parent all parent communication through this app." Um and she in talking to their superintendent, it interfaces between her phone, her computer, but it's all sent keeps track of all that communication. Um but we may if we decide to go that we may require that that's communication that we use for coaches. Um I don't know all the details. I don't I mean spec I don't want to speculate but it did bring to mind like do we need to be you know something a little more formal in our process of communicating to the families >> that take the the placement of team range. Yeah, if we did um and I think it was I think it was North Pulk who they got it for a year training everybody they let and
let the staff go like one more year whatever platform said okay now hard we're moving to parent square hard on this date um which is what we traded with rooms but they were just so bad at the the roll out implementation was so bad um parent square has been around for a bit um they keep they sent me stuff year after year after year and I just really haven't given it much time until this recent thing and our conversation with Suit Group and Corey, same thing. They've been hitting Cory pretty hard in his email. So, we'll listen. We'll look into it um and see if it makes sense for us to maybe move that way. And at that point, Tim, maybe we do need to put a policy in place on staff communication and I
can work with allers on what that needs to look like. So, um anyway, just trying to be pro proactive in that. Um any other question on that? my question. So, >> yeah. >> Can we can we hook up with the city and the soccer club and the parent square? Same thing. >> Well, that's what I'm wondering because you're going to have all the soccer coaches using team reach or >> Yeah. >> ease of I don't know. >> Yeah, there's a talking to them. It's a cost per student. So whatever your enrollment is, they charge on a uh per student basis. Um >> so I don't know how we navigate that with the others. >> Yeah, I I'm just thinking parents are going to have is it coming to me on team reach? Is it coming
to me on parents square? Is it coming to me on >> you got to be able to compartmentalize it though because >> Yep. >> stuff that I would have sent out the soccer people aren't going to want to know about, right? because you you would be able to control like I was looking I've looked at it like you can control it but it's just >> it'll be a school platform and you know we we even have this discussion as a soccer board as our communication so we make sure there's a board member on everybody's team reach >> that you know so that way there's no >> and I think I think I think your co I mean I think our coaches do right I think they are doing a nice job but to just continue
to communicate to them like that you know to to be sure um that they're not getting themselves in that situation So what would the difference be between parent square and like team reach is >> I don't know enough about it uh team reach is there's no like internal control for the for the district or school like what we liked about and we had a situation well gosh when I was in junior high because they were using team reach for junior high softball and a parent fired back >> um on that platform towards uh one of the players Um, and it just we had to pull in intervene and we really had >> we were using a school. We had no control over the the background of it. this we would have control of the whole
running back >> team reach there's no oversight for an authority board just I mean and the problem too like we've noticed I don't you probably use team reach like we do >> it's got big holes lately like there's gaps like we're we're missing big >> the ads in team reach way more and then you're like this weekend team reach updated so it wasn't working for a couple of hours >> cuz like I'm doing five six basketball and I like and like it literally said update in progress it should be done soon but it said that like most of the day and I was like I needed it for six seconds and like Terra's missing three weeks of information on one of them but I have it in mind >> but no team reach has its
faults I guess my point is >> if you're trying to prevent someone from texting somebody you can't >> no% correct no you're >> yeah if if they want to there's nothing going to stop that um you're absolutely right yeah I don't think >> conservatives >> no I understand completely. Yeah. >> But we've got a policy set in place for inappropriate cont. >> Oh, yeah. >> So, we've got we've already got that ethics um ethics and what have that as well. Yeah. >> Um anyway, just we'll we'll evaluate see if it makes sense for us or not. Um Corey uh Chad and I went to Iowa State. Um they've been working with Chad on partnership with AI and had a really really good meeting. um kind of at the point where they want us to partner
more with school districts um from their lens, how do we work with pres-ervice teachers and get them in a district and how does this look? Um some of the ideas they they applied for a grant that would help fund some of it. Um but also compensate our teachers for some of their time in the work. Um we talked about uh you know back to the design teams we kicked around kid like students uh involved in learning around AI and what that could look like. Um, and so I think it's there's some opportunities for us to work with them on the research side and then on the practitioner side. Um, and we pitched to them. Uh, so they have an AI innovation zone and we spent about a half hour up there in crazy like the
vibe coding that I learned about in in uh Google in January. That's what they're using to write. One of their inventors was walking through how he used it to create is applying for grad school and when you do you have to upload a portfolio of your work and then a lot of times I'll ask questions back or send an email back and forth to you about um responding to a question. He said it's just this constant check email back and forth. He created an app that he uploaded all of his information all the stuff he'd ever done and taught if this question is answered answer the question using this document and just it was all done through vibe coding. Um and so we talk about chance to get our kids involved with learning how to
leverage those tools. Um think there's opportunity for some some really neat partnerships. And then on the profile of graduate work that we talked about um we have an idea of how to use to develop a system that allow us kids to upload their uh documents. A teacher could verify it depend create a dashboard around how they're doing the different profile of a graduate. So then a kid could share that out like here how I am as a communicator. here's my artifacts that the teachers verified. Um, and they had a he said he spent about 30 minutes and had a mockup draft with that >> where like a student could take that on a job interview like almost like a little LinkedIn profile but for a kid for a high school kid and like they could
like so there's something tangible at the end of that. So again um and talk to your like the reason that they are interested in us now is that we've done a lot of leg work with policy development and vetting of tools and so looking for a pilot some teachers that want to uh be engaged in the work. So we'll continue to explore that moving forward see if it uh creates opportunities for us and our kids and our staff questions on that. um ASA conference uh Chad Corn and I are presenting on Saturday around the work that we've done, a lot of stuff that these principles have highlighted um around our four strategic priorities and the work we're doing. So excited to get to share uh our story. Um so that's where we'll be. Um budget
negotiations again, we'll meet on the 18th um to start. As you um heard from Bubba, we're kind of moving forward with 2%, you know, 1.75 to 2% and what that will be for us in SSA. Um I give you a little bit of those numbers there. Um what the 4.2% insurance is. So we'll be with them and start that conversation uh and see where it goes. We'll ideally we'd like to get that wrapped up and contracts out as soon as we can, but we'll see how that how that plays out. Um any questions? uh good conduct policy review. So um we've we had some students that um recently were um advised of the good conduct policy and and met with uh one of the parents and he brought up some good points and in my
time here in six years I don't know we've had the policy have to be used on students are actually involved in things. Um so kind of had a conversation with Nick and Cam and I and decided we're going to take a look at our good conduct and how it compares to the Rakin River. Um is it too stringent? Is it too lenient? um and those kind of things and then decide if we think we need to update it at all. So um yeah, so just going through the process ultimately you guys would have uh to review and approve as part of the handbook. So that's when you would you would see that um coming back to >> that you do or don't need to update it. >> Uh right now we're just evaluating. So we
looked at what other schools in the conference have and um you know we had a conversation surely Nick and K like do we want to reach out broader and I said I don't think that's a bad idea but let's start with the RC we're competing against them and and we and if they're way lenient or more stringent we maybe we should try and see what they're doing we can do whatever we want based on on your approval with your support but at least then we can give you some feedback on how we compare to other you know other um the other conference schools like is there mere presence? How many how many games do they sit out? Um uh yeah, I just haven't had that review in my time here and and talking to Gina
a little bit, she's wondering how long it's been since it's been looked at. So, we'll take a look um and see what if anything needs to change. So um I shared Mass County hazard mitigation survey with you that process uh think there'll be three or four meetings going for the first one about two weeks ago. Um in order to if there's ever a catastrophe we want to apply for FEMA dollars you have to have a plan in place and then the board has to be a board have to approve that plan. All go to all the planning meetings when they get it done or bring it back. We'll approve it. Um but there's a survey that they ask local elected boards to fill out. takes you 10 minutes if you haven't done it yet. So,
um just passing that along. Uh I received an invitation to Winter Urban Renewal Plan Amendment meeting uh Thursday at 1 city hall. I got today. My schedule's already tight for Thursday. Can't make it. So, I don't know if anybody else wants to go on my uh and sit on the meeting for my behalf. Uh usually Corey steps in when I can't. He thinks they're riveting meetings. Um uh so if somebody would like to on Thursday make it basically outlined there um the plans with the facility and how they're going to use TE financing and in and that they're going to amend that plan. So let me know if you're interested in doing it. I'll pass it along to you then. Okay. Um yeah upcoming schedule. Uh tomorrow as Cam said we are taking off at
40. Uh we're going to head up Cena's auditorium, go to Bond Ramps auditorium, go to Sadel's auditorium, and hit Valley on the way back. Those are four that were suggested for us to take a look as we're finalizing plans for the remodel. And then I have the AAS conference uh Wednesday through Friday. So that's where I'll be. Um any questions for me? Yes, sir. All right. Remember next meeting we are meeting on the 25th for budget work session and then we are meeting again on a regular meeting on the 9th of March. Nothing else we are adjourned.
