001um glows and grows list was created off of that. We ended up doing some PD surrounding student talk in the classroom to deepen cognitive understanding which we found based off of the instructional rounds as being an area we can improve on. Uh basically how do we get our kids to think deeper uh through talking and conversation in the classroom. So we started to go through that. Um we're doing our course registration book uh which will bring to the February board meeting just looking through some some different courses and offerings. Um, so that'll come to you guys quick. Uh, we were able to host Skea again. I think we did that after the board meeting on Tuesday, so it seems like that seems to be the regular anymore, but we get snowed out on that Saturday

002we host. Um, so big thank you to the volunteers who did that. Our community, our students uh put on a great deal and our jazz one uh goes to championships, which is fantastic. So um, DMAC biology genetics uh, they were able to go to uni's microbiology lab. Uh, so something Mrs. Kane does in those classes takes them to three different size colleges. This will be our fourth. Uh so students are able to see the labs at Iowa State, Uni, DMU, and Grand View. Um and and it's twofold. They get to see the different science labs, do an experiment there. They also get to visit a campus and see what they like for science. So all those [snorts] campuses are a lot different. So kids get that opportunity, which is super neat. Uh Mr. Hartung and

003I've got some labs in there but just or links with pictures and stuff. Mr. Hartung's marketing class did an authentic learning project with Crisp try to create a marketing campaign that was prior to giving uh giving season. Uh so again working with an area business to create create a campaign with social media focused this time. Uh priority three, I know that student council members uh we'll have this on January 20. Uh they were reached out and did a cyber safety assembly that we'll host. So we'll have Officer McLaren come in, speak to our kids about cyber safety, bringing an ESDK9. Uh so the first time the kids will be able to see that. It's an electronic storage device K9. New dogs that are able to sniff out where people that have images shouldn't be having

004those images where they hide them. These dogs are able to actually find those. So, I didn't know that it gave off a set, but we'll have dog on campus on the 20th kind of just demonstrating some of that. Uh, our student council I might be stealing some of Brooks's report here, so sorry if I am. Student council. >> Okay. All right. Student council did a great job with dress days and and our reindeer games assembly uh at the end of the uh before we went to break there uh which was great. continue to do our student of the month program uh winter said where we're connecting it back to CKH themes and then profile and graduate themes at the same time. So just highlighted that program as well. Uh priority four the authentic relationships. Um

005we've been working to to create good culture climate within the staff. Um and Alpaca and our alpaca pulse has been part of that program. So it's collecting anonymous data for our staff where they're highlighting words and their feelings at the beginning of each month and then we do different activities to uh to bring a broad awareness. So for example um doing mindfulness minutes u every Monday that we send out um just helping people with grounding techniques uh little things to help with mental well-being came about from alpaca um like I don't know festive sweater days, Christmas bingos uh stuff like that that we do with the staff. uh to try to make it uh an increased opportunity for them to share and be together. Um second one I know we did uh oh student of

006the month. Sorry I put that on there twice. My bad. Uh lastly, Renaissance award is continuing to go on. Um so we'll have our next Renaissance here in about two weeks recognizing kids that are going above and beyond for academics and character. So and this week if if you guys see kids out and about, it is a term testing schedule. So it's a little bit different. So may not be abnormal to see somebody at Montros eating a burger at 1:00. So that's it for me. >> Any questions for Cam? >> Josh? >> Sure. >> Yeah. Classic priority one right now is focused on preparing for the authentic learning showcase which is taking place March 3rd. Our goal is to get over 120 students to sign up uh this year to present a project to their

007families, teachers, and wider community. Um I did touch on a couple things that uh got feedback on from the board last time, which was a desire to hear little bit about the professional learning and how that's driving what we're doing. So I thought um the showcase is a great example of building PD, personalized PD, and then PLC work all coming together to make this event a reality. So building PD, we have teachers um leading PD on Wednesdays around authentic learning and PG work. Um I think hearing from their colleagues and different strategies and tools they're using is really effective and kind of it creates drives change. Um and then uh the PLC work is also making this possible as well where staff is meeting uh bi-weekly to look at P embedding PG skills um into

008their instruction and then also in preparation for the showcase which is going to have a PG layer uh to it this this year. Um strategic priority two is uh all around the public speaking workshop. Um, on the 20th of January, we have a keynote speaker coming in to talk about the art and science of public speaking and the power of effective communication and storytelling. Um, and on the 21st, the following day is when students are going to be able to sign up for the authentic learning showcase. So, we thought that was a nice launch launching point. Um, and then on the 17th of February, we're going to have 10 clinicians come in, maybe some board members, district staff, um, building principles, and some community members who will, uh, give feedback to students on their presentations.

009And we're focusing on this idea of being heard, understood, expressive, and standing tall. So, the feedback will uh, focus on that. Um, priority three, selfworth and connection others. just highlighted um our winter celebration or before right before break. We had a a day of uh connections and relationships. We brought the Grinch in um handed out gifts, took the kids to Graham's Cafe, did a pancake breakfast, things of that nature. And then priority four relationships just uh kind of touched on the different relationships the junior high has developed this year or over the last few years with the Iowa Wolves, DMAC Associated Builders and Contractors of Iowa, Aggravision and Madison County Hospital and that we're um in communication to set up employer visits and postsecary visits with those uh entities currently and we've had this is

010year three of working with them and I think it aligns nicely with our um college career and life readiness focus these relationships have been fruitful. >> Questions for Josh? >> Thank you sir. I have the authentic learning showcase on the calendar. >> Another great event. So uh Julie, >> sure. So um you'll notice in my report there are some references to projects that I've talked to you about already. I think the unique thing for us this year at the middle school as we go a little bit deeper with uh the profile of a graduate work and the work that the teachers are doing, those projects um are continuing to kind of resurface as far as the work that we're asking kids to do, which is to be reflective on how did the project get them

011to be a better communicator, a better um innovative thinker, whatever, you know, whichever skill it was that the teacher was looking at. So, um, strategic priority one, I highlighted some of our STEM projects. Um, technology is getting ready to wrap up and we'll do that semester swap where Miss Smothers will head to the elementary and Miss Susman will come up to the middle school and so we'll get some art second semester, but Erica does a really nice job with um, sixth grade in the arcade games this year. We set it up so that fourth and fifth could come and test. And then the kids went back and so they code it, they build it, you play the arcade game. Um, and then this year we just went a little bit deeper with that reflection piece.

012>> I'm glad I didn't have to pay to play any of those games because I think I got swindled. >> But it, um, I would say third year of doing it, we're we're getting better. in strategic priority number two. Uh again like the balloons over Broadway, we're taking that student reflection piece this week when Andrea is presenting the state to work with staff and really getting intentional about okay, how do we want students to reflect on it? What is it that we want kids to walk away with? So, even though I'm bringing up projects that, you know, have happened and some of you were there for, it's the work that's happening on the back end of those projects, that's really u exciting and we're able to look forward to doing it again next year and

013not become kind of stagnant. Oh, this is just what you do in fourth grade, but we're looking at how to make it richer each year. Uh the strategic priority number three, there are lots of kids out and about in the community. Last month um singing for the senior citizens lunch. We also our best buddies program did a really big um activity with kids within the building. We've got really good numbers of kids participating in that this year. If you remember, we were um selected last July to be a Best Buddies like model school for our age group. And so, u we've done a really nice job of just continuing that going and kids look forward to it. As a matter of fact, on lunch today, I was like, somebody asked me, isn't it best buddies?

014No, that's next week. They are really excited about that program. So, keeping that. Um, and then just the last one, the CL relationships with with each other and with our community. We wrapped up our second round of CKH walkthroughs, which the data turned out really nicely. Our memorable moment survey continues to be really strong of what kids say they're connected to at school. Um, so I just pulled in some things that kids say that they enjoy, like trace deaf jokes. So, we've got a student who just brings in the jokes that his dad tells in the morning. But, it's just a nice connection piece that kids are um being able to share those experiences and I think it's being reflected in our culture and school community. With that, um this week our national showcase applications

015are due and those have all been submitted. The narratives have been written. So hopefully we'll look for those results in April. >> Thank you. >> All right. As we all teach these profile and graduate things every day, sometimes there are bigger projects that we really focus on, one or two or three or four of them. Um so today I have two third grade teachers who are going to talk to us about one of those projects. uh and the profile graduate stuff that they hit on during that project. >> Yes. So in third grade last year we started a holiday market and we decided to repeat this activity this year but we did a lot more loading um as far as there >> as far as you introduce yourself. >> I'm Mrs. Bean. I'm a third

016grade teacher. I'm Mrs. Sh. Um, thank you. But we did a lot more front loing this year on our POG skills. Um, I joked that last year I had a country, they were researching different countries and I said they were going to send us into World War II um because of some of our lack of collaboration skills. Um, so we really went back and broke it down um and focused on that collaborator and effective communicator. Um, and a lot of it was getting them to um, respond well to each other when there is conflict, make sure that they are focusing um, also on their role of the project. Um, so here's just a few of the learning targets we used um, that were added after going through the Pog competencies. Um, and then one of

017our big ones was identify and complete tasks necessary to successfully meet a group goal. Um, and mobilize the team. So, you'll see we introduced a scrum board, which we had already practiced with Andrea Stewart during um, those little sessions working on POG. So, the kids all took every single task that had to be completed and they wrote it on a sticky note. Um, so that all ended up in the to-do column and then each student felt that responsibility when they went, they had to go up and choose one thing they were going to work on. Um, whether it was researching something or making something for their board and then they would move that to the doing column. Um, and that really showed who was kind of moving things along in the group. And if you

018weren't moving things along in the group, like where do we need to go look or what do we need to work on? Um, and here's a few pictures. So, you'll see kind of the process of word here. Some messy piñatas because they have to make a craft to go with it. Um, and the final product was a busy little market. Um, the kids sold their crafts to get donations for the pop pantry um as well. So, they kind of had that in the back of their mind. this whole um project that end goal was to get a big donation to the pop country picture before Christmas break. >> And then our last little thing are some reflections. Um my favorite is probably the top one because I have a student who can feel a little

019bossy sometimes. Um and when we were focusing on how to um communicate with our partners maybe when they weren't getting their part of the task done. um that was one of her big goals was that she was going to grow and that she wasn't going to use that bossy tone with her groupmates as she was offering them some tasks to work on. >> Um so you'll kind of see a various various levels of like how they felt they were being collaborators during that time. That is essentially that little project there. Um but yeah, our kids were super proud of themselves. It was a really fun fun little event. >> This is the second year of the market. >> Second year of the market. It's kind of the first big year of adding the PG work

020in which definitely I think helped it run it a lot smoother. That scrum board was really really helpful in them getting all their tasks completed. And going forward the scrum board will help with different projects that we're doing. So we'll be doing some research here on animals with our science and reading unit and the scrum board to refer to as well. And it really keeps them, you know, organized and responsible as to what they're to be doing as well for us to look to see what needs to be done. >> Uh yeah, so the scrum board I did has been fabulous for us. It's a great organizational tool, >> especially for third graders. >> Thank you. >> Yes. >> Thank you. ladies. >> Did you make it to the Christmas market? >> I did not.

021I had >> I went last year >> and lost a lot of money again. >> No, we that's why we made the shift from quarters to actual. >> Thank you. Anything else, Doug? >> No, sir. >> Perfect. All right, Justin, we're going to move on into consent agenda uh minutes. Jill, we have two sets of minutes. One from organizational meeting and then one from the annual meeting. Paid bills. Anybody have any questions or concerns for Jill on paid bills? >> We're starting to get our tuition in. Um first semester open enrollment bills are coming in and waiting for the rest of those to start and along with special ed will come here in the next month as well. So, >> thanks ladies. >> Thank you. Other than that question, >> any questions? No. Okay. Personnel

022Justin, do you have anything to add? >> Uh, no. You'll just notice on there that um Haley Tank is is is going to resign at the end of the year. And you'll notice by all the things that she's resigning for that she filled a lot of roles for us. And so we will start the process for advertising for that position um soon uh in the hopes of finding the best candidate possible. So wish her the best of luck moving forward. Um and you can see she was highly involved in our district. So >> okay, uh open enrollment. We have a recommendation to approve what was presented. We have we have six out and four in. Um my question do we need to notify anybody with the whole district boundaries reshifting with or Maxburg that if

023they have or h I just there anything that we need to do to make sure they're meeting deadlines and don't miss out on anything. >> I can follow up on that for sure. >> I just didn't know like if they know >> that they have to open enroll if they hadn't already. I think >> I think because they were already open enrolled in Jared. >> Yep. >> If they live in what we get from that district, it wouldn't be in an open enrollment, but I think most of them already had the open enrollment in, but we can check. Um, real quick update getting um we've been Jill and I have been working with the county auditor and also our attorney who then gave us a civil engineer to get an updated legal description of our

024district. Um, so we're in the process of trying to get that which will also help with um our tax base and what our cess valuation is going to be. Um, so we're in the middle of trying to get that updated but I think back to the open enrollment those students who are open enrolled in this year if they become part of our district won't need to would be anybody who um is going to be in the Nawway Valley and wants to come to us. Um they would have to fill that out anyway meet deadline unless I'm missing something on that Jill. >> No, I don't think so. >> Yeah. I just want to make sure I just with everything changing that's been kind of my only concern is making sure that we nobody gets missed

025or misses the deadline just because they didn't know with the new >> that would be >> yeah I think we can let them know but I think really it's just anybody who is in the portion we're not going to get that doesn't want to go to Nawway Valley would want to come to us would need to fill open which they would have to anyway. >> Okay. Thank you sir. Yep. >> Uh financial report. >> Um just looking at your revenues and expenditures and stuff. Um expenditures were in the same percentage or pretty close to the percentages as the three-year percentage. Um as well as your revenues. So um kind of on track with the three-year percentage um and statement of position. Dam any questions? >> I did not. Okay. I will I will be attending

026the ISF work budget workshop tomorrow. So that's what we'll be working on is getting things all lined up for the next school year. So So I'll be tomorrow. >> Y agreement. We have fiscal year 26 Indianola sharing for boys and girls swimming. Any questions on that? Okay. And then approval of early graduates. Looks like we have a couple new ones that wanted to get hopped on there. Uh Cam, is that correct? Just >> Yeah, there was three that [clears throat] Yeah, there's three that were there. One gave me all the paperwork, one gave me part of the paperwork, and the other one I've yet to receive the paperwork. So, >> that's what I noticed. >> Yes. The one that I've yet to receive the paperwork on, I I don't believe that would be significant. It

027might [clears throat] be like three and a half weeks before the end of the school year type of thing. >> Okay. >> Uh from the breakers program. >> Okay. So, uh the one young lady that had the partial paperwork um is not not here and has already u met all the graduation requirements from alternate program on the eastern part of the state. So, for us to get that that paperwork it was Yeah. So, Did you have anything, Justin? >> No, just Cam's trying to wrap those up and as long and um the one towards the end of the year, we can take that application later as well. We just try to do it as close to semester as we can, but we've taken them just about anytime that we get them. So, >> and if

028you notice on two of those two of those two applications you have, there's not a parent signature. Neither of those students are living with. Okay, that answer was going to be my >> Thank you for the clarification on those. >> All right, if no questions on any of that, I would entertain a motion to approve the consent agenda as presented. >> I'll make that motion. >> Motion by Gina. Is there a second? >> Second. >> I'm going to go Jeremy. >> Any other discussion? [laughter] All those in favor say I. I oppose. Same sign. Motion carries. First item of old business is the second reading of board policies um that require an annual review. Those are the ones that we went through last month and this is just their second reading. So we've read you

029all should have read those once. Um a motion to approve those on their second reading. Motion by Gina. Is there a second? Second by Tim. Any other discussion? All those in favor say I. I. >> Oppose. Same sign. [clears throat] Motion carries. All right. New business. SBRC request for mod modified supplemental allowance, right? MSA. >> Yes. So, this is extra money or authority that we get for district um at risk and dropout prevention program. So, that's the amount that we'll be requesting. >> So, we're requesting the $521,09. Any questions on that? Would anybody like to make a motion to approve that request? >> I make a motion. >> Motion by Jeremy. Is there a second? >> Second by Gina. Any other discussion? All those in favor say I. >> I. >> Oppose. Same sign. >>

030Motion carries. Uh, a five-year pedal and safe facility project update. Justin, is this you? >> Yeah, I'll I'll kick it off and then turn over to Ray. So I gave you um three documents there. You know the maintenance plan that we went through last year where we took a a real hard look at all of our facilities. Um it pre produced that 200 and some page document. So what I went uh did was go through that document and pulled out anything that they had put needed to be replaced in the next you know three to five years and put it on that document. Some of it's going to be handled through the construction but there are things um that we just need to take on over the next few years. So, I tried to pull

031that into the the maintenance planning document. Um, and then Jill's giving you kind of the breakdown of what we're going to fund through SAVE, what we're going to fund through Peeppel. Um, as we go into construction, you know, obviously SAVE allows us to do a lot of the maintenance of the building. Um, if you remember, there was like $4 million in, you know, maintenance that that they had indicated over that we needed to address. A lot of that was ADA compliance. Um, which we can do kind of when we get time and it's only if you go into construction that you have to bring it up to code. But so Ray will go through the projects that him, Jill, and I went through here about a month ago and identified that we're going to take

032on this year and we'll start chipping away at those those projects that were on that three to five year maintenance. I also asked Nick and to identify some of our athletic needs. Um, you'll probably see if you've been over by the middle school that, uh, the new chain link fence around the junior high baseball field, uh, that fence was in pretty bad repair, tore up. Um, so that's something we're taking on. Um, and Ray will just kind of highlight what we plan to do this year and and Jill's provided you, you know, where we're at with those two budgets and where we're going to fund those projects from. Go ahead, Ray. >> Okay. Um yeah, we we start out with the pebble uh this this sheet here that that Jill made. Uh I said the

033the chain link around the junior high baseball, most of that is complete. I think they finished up most of it uh today for the 4oot stuff. The around the back stop, that is something we'll do next summer when we do the softball, but that got that field got irrigation as well. This coming summer, we'll put irrigation in the junior high softball and get new fence around it and the dugouts as well as well as uh the infield will get replaced and some new material put on that which will Yeah, it was it was needing that in a bad way. Um and a maintenance bus garage. Um we we got a new pickup. We got rid of some stuff uh and got a new pickup. We got a new Bobcat tool katum for doing some maintenance

034stuff like that. a lot of the ground stuff and snow removal. So, you'll see us run around with that. Um, it says on here, lift to remove the old radio tower. With the new radios, we don't need that big tower that we've got currently out there. And so, the guy that got us the radios has a guy that will climb it and take it down, but he he had an injury to his shoulder, so it's going to be possibly this summer we get that done. But, um, not a ton of stuff. We're going to we're going to redo some concrete out there. Um, we're going to get a new walk-in door there. Elementary school. Um, we're getting a new sidewalk on the the west parking lot, the south side of that parking lot. There's just

035it's kind of a little skinny walk. It's hard to it's hard to clear snow off of. And we had somebody request that we do a better job at that. And once you look at once cars are parked there, it's near impossible to get anything down it. So, does that make sense? Does that make sense to you? The new parking lot that we just did, it's the little >> Okay. It's only like three foot wide and so we're going to make it a little wider. Um so we can take care of that a little better. Um the there's a couple of rooftop units we're doing at the elementary. One over the um one over the kitchen and one over the art room. And then the art room ceiling is still really high from when it used

036to be the gym. And it's I mean it's hard to keep clean and looks it looks pretty gross and stuff over there. So we're going to put a drop ceiling in similar to this new lighting. Um, and then we'll extend the duct work down to that level. It'll be about about this high, about 10 foot high. So, um, we're going to do that. Um, then there's another rooftop over the kitchen that those two are the oldest units on that building that need something done with them. So, uh, those were suggestions from our, uh, evaluation from Estus. Um there's some playground uh equipment uh that was purchased by PTO and the Hoy uh foundation and the school chipped in a little bit for that but it is in but it's just weather permitting as soon as

037it gets decent for enough days they'll get that stuff put in as well. I think that's going I think Doug said on the north side of the existing is that we're still thinking there. So getting that in there. Um what else? Uh some of these other things that they suggested replacing round door knobs with lever locks again that kind of goes into some of our ADA compliancy. Uh the restroom stuff we're not doing yet. Most of those are the little restrooms between the kindergarten rooms. So that's going to be a little bit more of an issue, but these door locks will get finished up. Um we we did some weather stripping in the office windows. Doug said that made a big difference. So we're going to work on getting all the north windows on that

038side there. some new weather strip and stuff on there to keep them going. We're going to upgrade our phone system and it this is on the on the elementary list, but it's throughout the district. So, it will it'll help it'll save us a bunch of money um from all the copper lines that we have coming in. And hopefully, it'll be more consistent without all the static and everything else coming in because they don't upgrade, they don't upkeep any of those copper lines. And so this will be all internet based uh phone system and new vestibule heaters in the stair towers. So when you come in uh and or you go from the first floor to the second floor, it's not free. We're we're going to rework those and do them a little different than what

039they were originally because we hope not. Knock on wood. We hope not. >> So answer will you go back to that one? So I it says one to three years. Is that happening like in >> that is something that we're doing that's something we're doing this summer that yeah most of these things I've spoken about are things we're doing this yeah because there there's some things that are in here in the one to five yeah everything that I spoke about is something we're we're going to try to knock out this summer on our list here. So yeah >> can I interject? >> Yes sir. >> Just some clarity on that. Gina when I put that together I just put the recommendation off of the actual evaluation. So it says one to three. they said in

040the next one to three. Um, we'll tackle those and as we take them, we'll remove them from the list. But, but that's how they get on there. So, >> so if it has a dollar amount next to it, that means we're working on it now. If it doesn't have a dollar amount, that means we're not working on it yet. >> No, I pulled dollar amounts. The some in some of the maintenance plan, they provided a dollar amount. And if they did, I plugged it in. And if not, Ray's working on getting a dollar amount for those. We just kind of went through the list and prioritized one what we felt we had the capacity to do >> and what what made sense based on the other work we were doing. Does that make sense? >>

041Sorry, Ray. Go ahead. >> No, that's right. Uh so then jump to the high school. Um there's the the life skills lab. They they were asking they would like to have a dishwasher in there so they can show those students how to load unload dishwasher um and u and maybe a new stove. We're having to get So, we're having to we're having to rework some of the cabinetry that was in there, but we've got that all made. We've got it in. I'm hoping to get that done over spring break uh for those projects. Um what else we had? Junior high is getting a new kiln for the art room. Corey had ordered for them. uh middle school. Um the the restroom remodel is for Jill Hatton's uh bedroom and we she asked for a I

042mean a a standalone restroom for her students instead of having to go out and around or to a nurse's office. So we got that in for that is currently done. Um we're we're working on getting pricing for replacing the carpet and we're going to do like one grade at a time. I think fifth grade was correct. Fifth grade looked like it was maybe in the worst shape. So, we're going to do those classrooms, paint all the walls, put new carpet in, and then next year we'll jump to fourth or sixth, whichever Julie sees uh fit to do there. Um, but we're still in the pricing process for that carpet, but we found some that is a carpet tile that will work in there. So, that's that's the Pebble. So, you jump to the save. Um,

043for activities at junior high, uh, gym bleachers. Um, there was some concern about those not having rails to climb up in them. I mean, they're, you know, they were original equipment for it. So, I talked to a guy about re reworking them to make that all work, but it was going to be super costly and then and we're going to lose a several seats. So, so this guy Anyway, we're getting all new ones here. uh this summer. Um and it actually shouldn't lose any seats, maybe even gain just a few. Um the basketball hoops in the pinrod gym, the south one, the motor shot in it, was stuck up. We got it down so it's usable, but um we're going to replace those and then service all all of them in that gym. the um

044administration. We're going to get we've got to get some radon mitigation for this building because we we went through and did radon testing in all the buildings. Some of them were questionable. We did some different work as far as ventilation and stuff and got everything down to acceptable levels except for this building. So, we're going to have to put some sort of mitigation to draw the radon out from underneath the slab and get it out in the out in the air. So, that will happen this summer. Um, again, I guess more paving at the bus garage. Uh, lighting replacement and the media center. That that was something that we did last summer, but it's complete. So, if you've been in there, that looks a ton better than that old ceiling did and new lighting in

045as well. We got a new water heater, the elementary high school bell systems. We got that done before the school started uh this year started. fire suppression. We're still in the process of updating all of our existing stuff. This is our last year to be in compliance with that. So, we should be we should have that all going. They're putting in voice command um and some new strobes and and different devices there to get us up to code in the building. Um this says lighting replacements, but they're actually it's it was skylights in the media center. So, the high school Yeah. high school library has two skylights and they were just deteriorating from sun. I mean they were they've been here since I've been here so at least 10 12 years old but the sun

046just took its toll on them. So we have two new ones there and then also two in the junior high commons that we replaced this year. So because yeah all all four of them were were in rough shape. Uh high school also uh there's seven rooftops that still need replaced. We're doing three of those. We're fighting off that this summer. So once school's out, we've got them on order and everything. So once school's out, those will go in right away. Um, junior high, those skylights, uh, we did replace a water heater in the junior high, middle school, a drop gate. Uh, it's we had the one drop gate that was there originally. We put another one in on that gym hallway so that so students that didn't need to be out in the cafeteria, me,

047some things cannot get out there. um vape detectors. We're still working on that. And there's a a couple of water heaters in in the middle school that need replaced as well. That's mostly what we're there. There may be some other little things here and there that that we're doing, but those are most of the major projects unless something else comes up due to construction. We we had a bunch of trees moved. I don't know if anybody noticed that. um getting ready for the parking lot and the addition on the north side of the tech building and auditorium and we had I think six or six or seven trees. We moved two from out here that are going to go away for the parking lot and and uh some from middle school. We moved them around

048by the softball field and stuff. So >> they said I'd rather kill them. But >> so any questions for me on did we get the security the locks and stuff fixed out at the high school? >> Christensen told me the other day at coffee that there were bungee bugs holding the doors. >> That was on the one of the mornings fixed. The system was Nick the system wasn't locking down like it was supposed to fix. It's all >> good there. >> Yeah, that was that was some programming in there. Yeah. Yeah. I talked to the guy that does it. It was Yeah, it was a programming issue, but >> I think we got that taken care of. >> Yes, sir. >> Anything else? >> Hopefully you guys can see that a lot of the things

049that came up were were kind of working through that plan and I think it was a good thing for us to to have somebody go through and identify some of the things. It definitely helps us identify where we need to invest those resources. Um some of them also like I said get shift is going to get shifted to the construction project at the high school that was on the plan as well. So um yeah got a lot of things a lot of things going the right direction. >> Do you want us to approve this as presented or is this just >> uh we kind of just give you an update. So you'll approve it when it comes back is paid for when the bills come through but kind of so you know how it's going

050to be allocated. Um, typically how this works, we always have these and as Ray tries to get people lined up, some of it comes to fruition. Sometimes they can't get it done. For example, the fence at the junior high baseball field was supposed to happen last year. We presented on it. They didn't get to it till over Christmas. So, it's just really so you know where we're going. You'll approve the bills when they come. Does that make sense? >> Okay. Uh next up is the 26 27 initial staffing plan. >> Yeah. So I gave you just kind of an overview uh the only um you know the position that really we're going to we're going to look to and hopefully with through attrition is with classes below 100 in the elementary. You know we're at

051four sections in in first and second grade. The eighth grade or the third grade class isund so 120 Doug something like that. Um >> they'll be getting a class of 90. So, we're going to move that to four sections um hopefully through attrition. Um and we're hearing about some other individuals that that may be looking at addition other jobs. Um as I said before, anytime that happens just because of our enrollment, we need to take a look and see if that's a position that we we can fill should fill uh moving forward. So, that's we'll do that um as we as those positions become available. Um yeah, so just kind of give you where we're at right now with what we know. Um but as things change, um we'll uh we'll look at those as

052well. You know, if you go back to the board update, um 244 of the 325 school districts in Iowa are facing decreasing enrollment. Uh you're probably, if you're watching the news, seeing what's happened in Boone, Iowa, um trying to avoid us from getting in that situation. if we can take positions as it makes sense. Um it's kept us in a pretty good financial position. Uh so we just anytime that happens, we're going to take a hard look and see if it's, you know, something we need to bring back or not. So questions for me? >> Will you you said something about numbers at the elementary to start with and I didn't quite >> Yeah, Gina. So the um we'll have if everything stays as uh it is right now our first, second, and third grade

053next year will all be less than 100 kids. >> Okay. >> And so that's why we'll be going to, you know, four sections or in those versus five. Um you know, if you go back when they were they were running 120s and and that they were they were running 24 to 25 kids a class. That's where they'll be next year. Um, now our preschool looks uh the numbers look pretty strong. We're hoping that that kindergarten class comes in, you know, if you follow trends based on who you have in preschool, what you pick up. We're anticipating that class be 110 or higher, which would be nice. Um, and we'll just see, you know, if that's a trend that continues or not. And if it is, then we'll we may have to shift teachers around again

054or add a section back. But it's based on what we know now going into next year, um we'll be looking at making, you know, third grade of four sections as well. >> Thank you. >> Yep. >> Any other discussion on that? >> Okay. [snorts] Board policy review series uh 10200 on our fiveyear review process. >> Yep. actually you'll see um you know the board set we changed this board policy I think uh last time we did it and you have a 5-year rotation on when you're going to evaluate uh all the the policy series um so in 2026 we need to do 100 200 300 400 I was able to get through 100 200 uh and Jane was able to make those changes uh for January so we'll take the first reading of those uh

055I gave you an overview of of the changes based on my comparison with ISB and how we actually operate in our district and I also uploaded a draft policy with those changes of those two series. Um, we'll bring them back in February for a second reading and I am hopeful that I'll have all of 300 and 400 done in February to take our first reading of those in in February. So, we'll work through those over the next couple of months. Um, there's any questions on the recommendation or changes I've made, you know, let me know and I can we can, you know, adjust them and bring them back as well. Um, you know, these are pretty standard operating uh policies. You know, I changed some just grammatically and then some have been changed recently with,

056you know, just some changes in law when you look at the uh bullying and harassment forms and we actually changed some of those back in July. So, just first reading of policies that we have to review, you know, all of them at least every five years. Anybody have any questions? Thank you for the the cheat sheet, Justin and Jane. >> Well, the they're my notes to Jane. So, if you look, I'm like, what is this? It's it's me communicating to Jane what I wanted to change. So, >> yeah, that was very helpful. >> Y >> any questions on those or any of the verbiage change? Okay. Um, if no other discussion or questions, I would entertain a motion to approve the updates um and review of the board policy series 100 and 200 as presented.

057>> Motion by Tim. Is there a second? >> Second. Second by Jeremy. Any other discussion? Not. All those in favor say I. >> I. >> Oppose. Same sign. Motion carries. Next up is uh establish two public hearings for the certified budget process. >> Yes, it's that time of the year. Um so yes, it just kind of give you some history of what you guys have now done us now two maybe three years now doing it this way. Um so March 30th would be our public hearing A and April 13th would be our public hearing B along with certifying the budget at that time as well. Um, we'd like to also do a, and I didn't have that in here, but a budget workshop. You guys did one last year at this time. Um, February 17th.

058I was wondering if that would be possible for you guys. If that works for you, >> I'll be out of town. >> We We looked at that week. I And if we could find Is was that Jeremy? Sorry, I can't. >> Is there is there a day that works better for you, Jeremy? >> I'll be gone that whole week. Um >> back next week >> Jill we want to look at that next. I just think with um because of the way this plays out in the the two public hearings. I think if we could have some or all the board members there to hear why we're establishing you know kind of where we're at what the budget's going to be would make sense. I know. I I think I can see Gina's head nodding, but

059I can't tell. >> I I think it's if we can have everybody, it's best. Um especially with the three new board members. >> Yeah, that's kind of what I was thinking, too. Um and we talked Jared, this is something we probably need to talk about, too. We brought in other people to do an overview. Um when we've had new board members, I think Gina, you probably remember we had, was it Larry Seagull that first year you were on? >> Do you remember Gina? >> Yeah. So Jill and I have talked about do we need that or not. Um you know we have the comprehensive financial financial projection model that we're working on and Joel will go through the budget hearing tomorrow if that's something you thought was beneficial. We can maybe talk to Ken Sturgis

060who's now the Larry Seagull and bring him out or or if you I think Jill could do a nice job too. Um but I think we can find a date that all the board members could be here that would be beneficial. >> Everybody make it Monday the 23rd. I prefer my 24th >> 24th. Tuesday the 24th. >> I cannot meet for the 24th. >> I can be here any other day that week. >> 25th. There's high school conferences at night. >> Yeah, they're from 3:30 to 7:30. This would take probably 45 minutes, I would say. Um, can we do five o'clock on the 25th or no? Does that leave you enough time people those of you that have high school kids? >> I'll just send Terra. >> Yeah. And and I can Does 25th work

061for you? >> Let's do the 25th and at 5 o'clock. >> February 25th. >> Yep. February 25th for the work session. >> Does that work with our timeline? I didn't even look. >> Yes, it will. >> Should work. >> Yeah, that should be fine. >> Is that okay? I apologize. >> No, it didn't. No, that's I think because that'll still get us all our other dates for the public hearings. >> Yeah. [clears throat] >> So, we're going to do So, what we need to do is approve. We're going to do a work session on the 25th and then a public hearing on March 30th and a public hearing on the 13th of April and then we will have the board meeting and adopt the budget at the 13th as well. >> Yes. >> Okay. The

06230th would be an early meeting. So, we would be done by 6:30. >> The 30th. >> 30th. >> The 30th. Yeah, we'll do it at five, right? >> Okay. >> And that one usually I think last year we were in and out, Justin. We I mean, >> uh, God, is that I think >> two years ago, the first year we had it, it was a little longer. >> Yeah. >> People show up. All depends on who shows up. Um, >> yeah, but they'd all be at 5. >> Yeah, >> that's the plan. Yep. >> So, we need a motion for those for February 25th at 5 for work session, March 30th at 5 for the public hearing A, and then April 13th 5 public hearing B. Would anybody like to make that motion? >> Okay.

063Motion by Ross. Is there a second? >> Second. >> I'm going to give to Jeremy again. He's sneaking in there. Second by Jeremy. Any other discussion? All those in favor say I. >> I. >> Oppose. Same sign. Motion carries. Remember those dates. Educational impact proposal. Justin. >> Yeah. So, um, as you know, Chad and the team's work with AI is is starting to get recognition kind of, um, all over the country actually. So, Educational Impact uh reached out to Chad after I think they heard a podcast and maybe his work with MIT and and some of the stuff we've shared. Uh they're getting um requests for professional development series around uh AI. They create online professional development content and they do it by videotaping uh teachers who are implementing and then building curriculum around it.

064Uh they reached out to Chad. Chad asked me if it was something we're open to. Um, I asked for them to kind of give an overview of what that would look like. So, essentially the teachers would have to agree to it. They'd have to be on board and then any student in the classroom, the parents have to sign off on them being involved in it. And I included those kind of forms that they sent us there. Chad is um reached out to the team and there's several teachers that that um express some interest in in being involved. Uh and then what we get in exchange for that is um free access to their entire on online uh PD catalog for a year. Um so again just seeing if the board is okay with us moving

065forward again the teachers opt in the the students would have to you know parents have to sign off that they could be involved and then they would be on site and do the some of the recording around uh the use of AI in the classroom. I think it's awesome. >> Yeah, I have nothing against it. I mean, long as everybody signed off and >> all the forms are there. >> Yeah, you >> Sorry. Didn't mean I can't not trying to interrupt. Hard me to see who's speaking. So, I apologize, Jared. Um, >> do we know any doing this? >> I believe it was going to be April or May would be the earliest if I remember correctly. Um, >> you know any other schools? Any other schools? >> Oh, do I know any other not

066around AI? Um, they showed us their online catalog. Uh, and we looked at some of their courses. Um, and we would make the catalog open to all of our teachers, but I'm not sure of other schools in Iowa. Um, they're out of the, um, East Coast, if I remember correctly, or East. Yeah. Any other questions? I don't have any questions. There's no questions. I would entertain a motion to approve uh the educational impact proposal as presented. >> Make that motion. >> Motion by Gina. Is there a second? >> Second by Tim. Any other discussion? All those in favor say I. >> Oppose. Same sign. Motion carries. Uh, next up, looks like we have a couple additions to the fundraising. Um, one for junior high, one for high school. Any questions on those from anyone? If

067not, I entertain a motion to approve those as presented. >> Motion by Jeremy. Is there a second? >> Second by Ross. All those in favor say I. >> I. Oppose. Same side. Motion carries. Brooks, we're up to you. Put you on the spot. Your first night right there. >> I mean, I don't have much. Um, he kind of talked about a little bit. Um, his stuff, just the reindeer games kind of stuff that went really good. The assembly was nice. Um, not really. They didn't give me anything. So, I was told I was coming today. >> Well, thank you for coming. So, I don't know. But, and we appreciate it. So, thank Brooks. Uh, Ross, >> Gina, >> I just wanted to tell Kim that when the girls, little girls played at the varsity girls

068ball game, how sweet it was and my granddaughter asked her the next day, um, her favorite thing. And she said when I was at one end of the court and they kept telling me, "Shoot, shoot. Go after that ball. Don't let it go out of bounds. It's still in." So, she really looked up to those high school kids. So, they are doing awesome with her kids. >> Thank you. >> Perfect. >> Um, kudos to everybody making it through that Christmas buildup and, you know, going I think that Tuesday was a lot of fun by everyone. Um, I was in the buildings, several different buildings that week, week before. A lot of great things going on. So, kudos to all building administration and all staff. It it is a lot of fun those weeks. And then

069I'm sure this last week was fun as well and high school finals and all of it. So downward slide second half of the year. Here we go. >> Okay, Jeremy. Perfect. >> Justin. >> Yeah, a couple things. One, uh just want again thank you for supporting me in this Google fellowship today has been been great. Um you know the admin team's already seen a couple things from me on some things that I learned today. So I'm sure they're super excited as well. they are. >> They're smiling. >> Um, no, it's been really good just to network and one it's also reaffirming with the good work that we have going on in our district. You know, able to share our AI journey, our authentic learning journey, um, and all the great things going on in Winter

070Set. So, just thank you for supporting me, uh, allowing me to do this. It's been a it's been a good thing. And, uh, it's worked, too. I have a transformational opportunity that I've got to present on here in in uh April at the conference. So, working through and finalizing that. Um so, again, just thank you for supporting me and in and doing that. Um next thing is uh TLC update. If you remember two years ago, we made some changes to TLC and said that every two years we're going to kind of look at uh that program and and what to do. Um, we're hearing some of those people in those roles may be looking to move move on. Um, and so we're going to take a hard look at it. Uh, Cory and I have

071been working on a way to try and get more people involved in some of the decision- making in the district. Um, you know, this year we're using some of it to support our uh, instructional leadership team that's helping with the POG work. So, we're looking at how do we continue to use those funds to get teachers involved in the work that's going on in our district around our strategic priorities. Um, we met with uh a smaller team earlier this week. We will take it to the district-wide team kind of our initial ideas uh here in a couple weeks and then we'll kind of try and finalize and bring that back if there's any changes and um just again trying to make sure we use those funds to move our district forward around our strategic priorities.

072So, uh be on the lookout for that. Um legislative session kicks off. Uh I think tomorrow the governor is going to give us her state of the union. Um it's um yeah, who knows? Um is kind of what I would tell you. You know, with her going I think this is the first time and I don't know how many years that um there won't be an incumbent on the ballot uh running for governor. And so in her last year, a lot of speculation on on what that means. Um I shared with you I think the some pre-filed bills from the the DE um has filed that if they pass could impact you know some of the stuff we do some we have in place already. Um I just think we're going to have to stay

073really attuned and probably have to engage in some advocacy. Um this you know their budget is they're going to have to pull off reserves to pay for it. Um which could mean for some tough economic times for districts. Um and yet uh they said that they plan for this. So hopefully that means they can fund their priorities. So I will in the in years past I will just pass along information as I get it. Um if you have information that you want to have so you can advocate let me know. Be happy to to get it to you. Um I think sometimes from board members or parents or community members it um maybe goes a little better than when it comes from me. But happy to supply information to you um if you want uh

074if you're going to advocate. Um construction update. We continue to meet uh every two weeks. Uh we're starting to hone in on a little tighter uh time frame and phasing of the project. Um still trying to narrow in the budget. They came back with a a new kind of look on the auditorium which looks really nice. Um and I sent it to Reed, a text to Reed while we're sitting there. I said, "Uh, does this look like dollar signs to you?" And he's like, "Yeah, we're going to have to do some work um to to get that back within budget." So, we continue to try and refine that project, uh stay within the budget that we have, um and tighten down the time frame. They will be back uh in February with an updated should

075have some 3D drawings and renderings for you to look at. Um Cam's already working with staff as far as you know packing up the rooms and what that's going to look like. Um we're going to have to find a place to house some of this stuff. We don't have a lot of room. So we'll work through that, but you'll get an update. I believe it's in excuse me in February. Um and oh along with that we're going to have to ne uh relocate um probably bridges and or heart next year um because those rooms as you know are getting remodeled for the auditorium. So we were looking at using the dental office next to us uh for one of them next year. Uh won't do a ton of remodel there. We think it's got heating.

076It's got um you know bathrooms. Matt can get us Wi-Fi over there. may put in a camera or two um just on the parking lot, but probably going to have um heart or bridges uh operating out of that space um next year just due to construction. Um and some sad news, I'm sure all of you probably saw, but uh you know, the passing of Logan Smith, you know, a recent grad over the weekend, um terrible tragedy. I didn't realize all the connections to the families in Winter Set that have also had some some pretty tragic events last couple years. So, I just want, you know, heart, you know, prayers and goes out to the family. Uh, you know, kind of a huge tragedy um for our community. So, sad to hear that. Any questions uh

077for me? >> Um, you brought it up. I just want to make sure. Um, is anybody able to go on January 26th to Day on the hillbai and right all three? Justin. >> Yeah. And I've registered for that. Um, >> I'll be there. >> There was also an email that came out today. I think you probably got it from ISB about an advocacy webinar on uh, Tuesday the 20th. Is that right, Jared? >> Uh, I just looked at it. Yeah, something like that. I >> think Tuesday I think Tuesday the 20th 12 to one where they'll go over the the state of the budget. I I sent you the ISF slides in my board update um and the webinar recording. It's long. It's an hour. >> There's two one on the 20th on the condition

078of the state and then one on the 22nd on the condition of the budget. >> Give me condition of budget. Um those would be good if you want to go advocate. They'll uh they'll give you some good information, some talking points and and share where the budget is at. Um, if you have questions over the ispis slides and webinar I sent you, they did a nice job of of going over that and some of the what they're hearing as well as what could be included in legislation coming up. >> But if you're able to go, it's all day. It's 9:30 to 3 or really it's 9:30 to noon to 3 as you go advocate at the Hill. So you can meet your representatives, you can. Justin and I try to get in with um Sinclair

079if we can or Sorenson. Um but you we start at the historical building do some briefing with um AA ISB SAI and then we go to the capital and >> the uh that seems to be about our only opportunity to get engaged with Sinclair due to her role as the uh you know president of the Senate pretty busy but we usually able to meet with her uh during that day uh and then obviously represent Sorenson is is usually available as well. Let Jill know if you want to go to that. She can get you registered. Okay. Nothing else. Thank you, Justin. [clears throat] >> Oh, thank you. >> Future meeting, regular meeting on the 9th and then no meeting on the 17th, but it'll be the 25th. So, if nothing else, >> um, I asked

080Jill to uh and I create a calendar invite maybe for those board meetings. We'll send it out Google calendar invite so they get on your calendar. >> Okay, >> Justin, I was contacted by Kathy Hendricks's family >> about a trust in Kathy and Bud's name. >> Okay. >> And I said I would get them a name or a contact person. Who would I steer them toward? >> You can send them to me and then I'll probably get them set up with a foundation um education foundation and Kenna Johnson's the president of that. But if you put them in contact with me, I'll make sure that they get in contact with uh the education foundation. They manage a lot of those um trust for uh for the district. >> Okay. I'll let Tom know that. Thank

081you. >> You bet. >> Nothing else. >> We are journ Thank you all. >> [clears throat]
