I'm going to call the meeting to order. Would everybody please stand for the pledge of allegiance? I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> Thank you. >> All right. Next up, we have uh mission statement and strategic direction. I don't know which one. Gina, would you do that for me since I'm gonna get my stuff out? >> Who? I think >> the mission. We will empower a community of lifelong learners who strive for personal excellence through meaningful relationships and realworld authentic learning experiences. And strategic priority number two, integrating 21st century learning skills and student opportunities. All right. Next up, we have approval of the annual meeting agenda, which is this first

one is this uh annual meeting and then we'll have the next one afterwards. So, any other changes, Jill or Justin, that we need for the annual meeting? >> I would entertain a motion to approve the agenda as presented. >> A motion. >> Motion by Jeremy. Is there a second? Second. >> Second by Tim. All those in favor say I. >> Oppose. Same sign. Motion carries. Anybody from the public wish to speak at the public comment? Do we have both public comments or just this one? >> I only sit on this one. Correct. Okay. So, now is the time if anybody wishes to speak to the board. We won't have a public comment in the next agenda item. So, this is the time. Okay. Next up is consent agenda. We have the minutes. um from the

last meeting and then we have paid bills. Jill, >> any questions with any of the bills that were on the list? >> I had one. Give me just a second. I'll get there. >> How many times a year do we make that payment to the AA? >> To the AA. This year it's different. We make a payment to them every month now because of that new >> where the law changed. Will it be Will it be 71,000? >> No. So it's like 47,000 per month and then on top of it is all the other part expenses that we do like printing and other >> contracted services. So >> our total bill for the year from the AAA is what >> soart >> special ed will send them 600,000ish and they get 90% of that allocation.

We keep 10% and then it's based on what we do as far as ordering. um that comes out of media services and um um >> professional service which is the PD right >> so we contract with them for certain things we've done some printing with them so that's truly built on a per service basis so I can't tell you but um if all of it went to it oh gosh that's another 200 like about 800,000 wasn't it last year that they got >> it shouldn't be they'll get the majority of special ed this here by code. Um, but then everything else is built on a on a fee for service basis. That make sense? >> Yeah. Yeah. >> Okay. >> Um, oh, was the Amazon capital service that just says tech 13,155. Was that >>

just kind of a general everything we spent for the month? So, it was tagged in supplies else. >> I can't put everything down that we write. >> No. And that's I just I figured it was it just usually doesn't think that I just was pulled that >> description on >> and my one was Billington trucking. I didn't know what that was and it was for >> sand for the athletic fields after deep. >> Gotcha. >> So they haul in the sand for that. >> And Corey, I had just had uh somebody from the public text me and say the zoom links are not working. >> Okay. Just I let you know. >> Yeah. >> How do they clip them on one? >> She said that she tried both. >> Oh, okay. Somebody on >> cuz

it should be the same one. >> Oh, they're not. Fine. >> Anybody else have any other things on the paid bills and invoices? >> Sorry, caused drama. My bad. I'm just like a storm of drama tonight. Look at me go. >> Look at me go. Uh financial report. Chill. >> Um uh yeah. So I have gotten the expenditures and revenue there for the and the statement of positions. So um expenditures for this year, you know, for this month is just, you know, a little bit lower than the three-year average. Um revenues again is just a little bit lower than the last three year average as well. Um statement positions you can tell the difference between our fund balance from 2024 compared to 2025. So do anybody have any questions on that? >> And then last

up is a review of annual appointments for the 2025 2026 school year. Again, you actually get these in September because I think it's foolish to start the year without having them in place, but it's supposed to be part of your annual meeting this year. Review your annual appointments. So that is who is in the roles that the board has to designate who your attorney is, who your publication is, and all those things. So just again put a agenda for review, but we I bring it in September. So we start the year with them in place. So >> any questions on those? If none, I would entertain a motion to approve the consent agenda as presented. >> Thank >> Motion by Gina. Is there a second? Second by Ross. Any other discussion? All those in favor

say I. Oppose. Same sign. Motion carries. No old business in that one. So next up, we do have to accept into record the canvas of the votes submitted by the Madison County Office of Elections. So you have the one attachment is the actual counts that are certified and then the second one is just the abstract that says it summarizes it there and it's all signed. We just have to approve. Correct, Jill? Okay. Anybody like to make a motion to approve and accept in directive the canvas of the vote submitted by the Mattis County Office of Elections? >> I'll make that motion. >> Is there a second? >> Second. >> Motion by Gina, second by Jeremy. All those in favor say I. >> Oppose. Same sign. >> Motion carries. >> Next up, we have the financial

audit. examine and settle the books for the 2425 school year. I hope everybody read the 75page audit cover to cover because Jill worked very hard at that. >> Well, still and thanks to to Candy still on the situation, but um so yeah, so this is the audit that we'll receive on a monthly on an annual basis and it's done by um Bar >> and Adams. Sorry, >> Alex Bar, >> sorry, >> no worries. So um some of the pages that you want to look at to kind of um review what has gone over for the year is like um page management discussion and an analyst which is your MDNA which is kind of like a storyline of what the year went what you guys went through for the year um in regards to your financials

and your solveny ratio. Um also on page um economic factors is on page 13. Um that kind of tells you too is like you know what our solveny ratio some of the budget areas. Um if you notice on our schedule of findings on page 69 it showed that we had two schedule of findings. One was the amendment of our budget. We didn't amend the budget this year. Um so one of the areas that we went over there that four areas of um expenditures that we have to look at is the instruction support services non-instructional programs and then other expenditures. We actually went over the other expenditures line. So we didn't go, you know, over every line or the whole entire budget, but we went over in one of the lines. So next year we just

one of the schedule findings is that we have to make sure we budget um the amendment every year. And that's what we'll make sure we do that that for next year. But some of the things that probably went over in that regard is maybe you know some of the construction projects or other you know unex unexplained um not not planned expenditures that we had talked about. So or what you guys had budgeted for you know a year ago. So um and then the other thing was a certified enrollment was another schedule of findings which is we just sometimes look at that every year too but um didn't have any questions regarding that. Nice audit Jill. >> It's always good to see as well and it's hard to roll into a new one halfway through like

you said with with Cammy and then with you. So, thank you. Any other questions on the 202425 audit? If not, I would entertain a motion to accept the audit as presented. >> Motion by Tim. Is there a second? >> I'll second. >> Second by Gina. Any other discussion? All those in favor say I. >> Oppose. Same sign. Motion carries. All right. Now we adjourn that one >> meeting. >> Yep. So I will adjourn the annual meeting. We are in adjournment. >> And now >> she's here now. >> I think it might be. >> Okay, perfect. We figure it out. >> Okay, >> we got the late to work. Um Jill, I usually kick this one over to you >> um to start and then whenever we elect the president, they take back over. So it's

all yours now. >> Like to call the meeting to order for the organizational meeting of today's agenda. Um we first like to do an oath of office for the new board members. I have a given the oath of office to chiff um Tim and Ross um because we need to have them done within the 10 days of um when they received the canvas. So we did that in the few days ago. So now I just need to give um a vote of office to the new board members which is Jared and Jeremy for now and then we'll do the >> you want us to stand >> same time or at the same >> can you soly swear that you'll support the constitution in the United States and constitutionally in the state of Iowa and that

you'll faithfully and impartially to the death of the ability to charge the duties of the office of board director in the litter full district as now and hereafter required by law. So now we will um request nominations for um board presidents. >> Second we want to vote for everybody or call for everybody asking for Jerry to be board president. I chair. >> Do you so swear that you support the Constitution of the United States, the Constitution of the State of Iowa, and you'll faithfully and partly to the best of your ability, discharge the duties of the office of fourth president of the Winter Community School District as now hereafter required by law. >> I do. >> All right. Yeah. >> I'll try to be on time next time, guys. Thank you for not pulling that

one against me. Um, election of board president or board vice president. I would entertain a motion or a nomination from anybody for vice president. >> I'll nominate Gina. >> There's a nomination for Gina. Is there a second for that? Second by Jeremy. Are there any other nominations? Going once. Going twice. All right. Do we have a nomination for vice president uh Gina? All those in favor say I. >> I. >> Oppose. Same sign. Congratulations. Now you get to stand up. Oh, I have to do this one. That's right. Or you No, you do it. That's right. You do it. Do you sound soly swear that you support the Constitution, the United States, and the Constitution of the State of Iowa, and that you'll faithfully and impartially to the best of your ability discharge the duties

of the office of vice president, director of instead community school district as now and hereafter required by law. >> I do. >> All right. Now, we have our final our monthly final meeting. Um, any other additions to the agenda for that? Okay, I identified a motion to approve the agenda as presented. >> Motion by Ross. Is there a second? >> A second. >> Second by Gina. Any other discussion? >> All those in favor say I. >> Post same sign. >> Motion carries. We will move into information only. Justin. >> Yeah. So, we're like I think you guys are well aware, we've been engaging in uh planning meetings with Bray and Estus as we move forward on the the construction project. Um they'd like to kind of give you a presentation on where we're at in

that process. So, I'm going to turn over to to Chad Alley and then I think Reed will follow up kind of when Chad's done. >> Thank you. And I think I mentioned to you to Justin at the schoolboard meeting that you would probably end up with me. Okay. Uh, so Matt wasn't able to make it tonight. Uh, he hit another conflict and then John has another conflict. So you did get the C team. Sorry about that. Uh, so you can go ahead and go to the next one if you wouldn't mind. And the next one and this where we're at now currently we are in the design development. We started off in schematic design working with Estus and working on some pricing some overall pricing and now we're currently at the uh project schedule uh

where we're working with uh focus group the core focus group which is the administration team and then we're also working with the uh focus groups which are the um students and staff. my Oh, okay. Go ahead. My My screen is not the same page. There we go. Okay. So, as we've talked every other two weeks, we're having meetings and we're meeting with this administration staff. Now, we're in December. We met this morning with groups. So, we met with the U FCS, the art group, the uh >> Student group. Yeah. Student group, which was very informational and quite fun. today. I haven't sat through one of those in a long time. Uh and then we followed up with the core group this afternoon and did some followup on some budgeting and uh scheduling. We're not going

to show you the schedule today because we did have a little mix up on that. So, we're going to bring that back to you very soon. We'll go to the next one and which we'll go to the next one. Okay. So, here are you know the plans. We have the football field on there. That is the the green field. We're we're leaving it there. It's not part of the project. But phase one would be the parking lots in the front and the back, north and south. We're going to revamp those. We are going to leave that big huge sign in the front. We're not going to move that. It's going to remain there and we're going to work around it. And then the auditorium we talked about today, some of the things uh with the

student group was some of the items that they were real excited about was the the different types of chairs. and then some today was just some really a great information for everybody in the group but uh talked about the different colors of types of chairs so it doesn't looks like it's a full house when maybe it's not a full house and they understood that and they also gave us their their input on what they would like to see um colorwise uh we talked about the wrestling today and then FCS uh your FCS student or FCS uh instructor so I'm trying to that uh sat with us and and we kind of walked through the whole room. We're going to go through each one of these as we go through uh the PowerPoint, but uh we

really really narrowed it down with her today because we know that she's probably going to not be able to finish up. So, uh and then the district-wide improvements and the main hallway, we talked about the renovation of that and moving that up into uh this next summer 26. Go to the next one. We've shown this a couple times now. We're going to have 62 spaces in the front of the high school. Give a little more space than we currently have. Um we're working on trying to get this out of an early bit package. We'll go to the next slide. South Power Fuel line. We talked today about the road going up to it and I'll let Reed touch base on that later in regards to the storm water retention and uh the and the dish

dispersing the storm water. Uh also on this one we have some more lights we were talking about in the past meeting. We brought those in and budget those into the into the budget also. Next one. Now on this slide we're looking at the the red areas uh which are new additions to the buildings. So you have the FCS build the FCS to the north of the current technology building and also the art room. And if we go across to your right or my right I guess maybe not your right but uh that would be the addition for the fly the area above behind the uh auditorium where uh we're going to have to do some pre-cast or I'm sorry today we kind of made a decision we're going to go with seeing you on that

because it was a a better uh budget for it's better for the budget and then the front they give you the more entrance uh more aesthetic please aesthetically pleasing entrance onto the fine arts. And finally, in the back, that is where the wrestling room is. We have a secured entrance on the back that we're working also, which is paint next to the red, but that is the same size of the wrestling room as the boys have to the north. >> So, >> yes, >> the on that screen right there. So, there's the red, that's the long narrow, and then there's the short narrow. >> Yes. >> That just in like >> Yep. right there. >> No, this Yeah, this >> pink the pink the the bottom one. >> Just new entrance. >> Just a new

entrance. >> Yes. >> 80s office. Okay. >> Yep. 80s office and secretary's office down there where controlled entrance. Yeah. >> The pink would be the entrance. Those would be the offices. Okay. It >> has a student entrance. So at the beginning of the day, that's where students will come in after they uh we can go to the next one. This is a better example uh of what the auditorium this is. This is going to be the 750 seats. We've got it down to where we're at 7 750 seats. We had some minor adjustments because of the restrooms. So there was a little bit of um small adjustments on that. Nothing huge to that. It's not like we have to have 23 restrooms or stalls now, but we have the number count there. We need to

go in. Uh the kick out on the back very to Yeah, that is what the stadia seating is where that'll be a little more it'll be more incline coming in. That sits above the restrooms. So that little box sits right there above the restrooms and below them. So that's what I'm trying to say. Then we have the lobby which that is we talked about earlier that we're going to we're working with the student we as had the students today and we asked them a question uh and we're going to follow up with them on the next meeting was how do you want to identify the the entrances of the we have W's on each side and one of the students brought up why don't we use a husky up for the students and leave the

W as what we have runs right when the building is some insurance. So there were just some of the questions we asked them today. There's nothing that we said that that has to be. Yeah, that's the way it's going to be. All right, we go to the next one. Uh this is just a black and white copy of that. Basically, there's nothing. That's the current facility you have. Actually, let's go to the next one. I have to apologize, but I got this 20 minutes before. So, we're going to go now to You're on that one. >> This one. There we go. This is more of the This is the addition to the for the girls um wrestling room. This will stand taller, higher than the boys. So, there's some roof adjustments we have to make

uh because we have the the roof currently for the boys wrestling room flows back to where that's going to stand. So, we have to we have to do some modifications to the roof because that's just going to stand higher. So, the water has to go to another location. We're going to figure that out. That's one of the things that we're doing in schematic design right now. >> Um >> the higher ceiling allows for cheerleading. >> The cheerleading. >> Yeah. So, you have a space that's got mats. And so, that's the rationale behind it. >> When we're not Yeah. When that space is not being used, you can roll out the mats and use it for anything basically. Go to the next one. Find where I'm at now. There we are. Okay. So, alternative education. We

haven't talked a lot about this one. Uh so, when we're looking at all the projects, we're going to look at it in phases. This is going to be the very end, this little final phase because FCS will move from here to the north of the technology building. This will be the last thing that we end up doing. Uh we'll keep everything in place as the projects are moving along and we're going to keep alternative moving the whole time. But finally in the spring of I'm sorry, not the spring, the summer of 2027, we'll begin this project because hopefully we'll be completed with all the other things. >> Gina had a question before u regarding this and I'll walk through. So here's the existing corridor in the weights in that. >> Um she asked about this

entrance right that'll be a controlled entrance like it is now. So kids coming for the alternative program will be buzzed into the classroom um when they because some come for part part days and so that'll be a controlled entrance like they have right now uh on the end of that existing corridor. So sorry that was a question before. >> Nope. She'd asked me that question once said that's a better example. Okay. So the next slide next slide is what we talked about today with the art group and the FCS. And one of the main questions that we had was what do you want that second room the secondary room the back on the of FCS? What do you how do you want that to be? Uh do you want it like a full glass and

the FCS I have to apologize. Miss Brown. >> Okay. >> Miss Brown. Miss Brown made sure that she said, "I don't need anything extra. I don't need like a garage door open. I just want something I can see into the classroom." So, our idea is that we're going to put two doors on each side and have glass in the middle. Uh, you know, it's still up in the air, still schematic of what we're talking about. It's something that she can see both classrooms with. Uh, the other thing that we discussed was the size of the storage room. There was a couple comments about she uses a current refrigerator that she'd like to keep in that area where the all all the equipment is and then she has two. So she wants to keep the other

refrigerator probably the storage room. So we're going to modify some things and and make sure that we can accommodate that. Also in the front of that is the area where it's not like point of uh where the we're going to work with community. There's going to be a we'll call it a garage. It is kind of like a garage where it's it slides up and down. It's steel, stainless steel where they can have a point of they can buy uh food or small or coffee or things in that little area and how that we can get the community involved in that in that little vestibule. That vestibule will be a secured entrance also and you'll be able to get into the we'll call it the the front area but you cannot get through the rest

into the rest of the building from that. There's two doors there that are for secured entrance. Also in that area where they talked about putting a uh we'll call it a >> display case. >> Yeah. Yeah. Well, sorry. >> Display case. >> Play case. I thought that's what you said. display case for art and the art group can come out and they can put some of their other uh some of the projects out there. We'll move on to the next one. This again is just this is where we kind of started off um uh with the uh the graphics and video room. That room will actually uh go below the art room. Trying to think is that the Yes. So uh it'll be in the existing building currently. So, it's very fun that I there's

some interesting concepts we were talking about how we're going to take the front of the building off when we put the new building on. So, and we'll let Reed talk about that. Go to the next one. Again, interior spaces. Uh they're starting to take shape and what we're looking and this is just a 3D model of what we're talking about. And we'll go to the next one. And if I go too fast, please stop me. Again, just this is the FCS room. We've modified this already. So, this one is not the exact what we were looking at earlier. Uh we have a couple things that like I said, we're going to change. This gives you a better idea of the when you walk in to buy from the serving window. Next one, just another model.

Uh we did talk to this one thing we did point out. There's a mop sink that's going to be inside the art room. As you go in the door, that mop sink will be used for both art and for FCS. So, if there's a major spill in the uh FCS room, we can just clean it up and take it to that mop sink and wash it down. Next, this is the things that I haven't been. This is the really touchy feel. So yeah, this is something we went through early on with them about what makes winter set winter set, what we want the spaces to reveal and they're using it as some of their inspiration. So this is um things that are pertinent to our district um that came from all the focus groups, the

students and the admin team and they're trying to incorporate in design and as you see we as we go to through some a couple more a couple more slides you'll see and some things that we have incorporated we'll go to the next one. Uh Megan, our interior designer was here today and sat with all the folks groups and some of she asked the questions to the students which we had the most information from was you know what were some of the things that you really like and some of the things you don't really like and they pointed out here in like the middle uh lower picture with the bright yellow. The student said we don't want that. And we said perfect. We can we can mark that one off. Uh but we gave them some

ideas of what the uh area in front of the fine arts could look like the ceiling wise. Uh there's the bottom left corner. Those are just uh you know some aesthetics that we were looking at. But then also again if you look in the bottom right corner you know that window is a great example of like something similar that we could put into the FCS room. Uh the students didn't like the they definitely did not like the busyiness of the carpet uh the carpet tiles on the top left. But then we also told them these are some of the things that we're incorporating uh within your building. So the the colors, the gray, they really like the grays. They want to do a little more modified gray rather than a a black and a gray.

Uh again, just some that we explain why we came up with those those items. We'll go to the next one. We talked to them about the exterior. One of the things they mentioned was they do not like the white on the top. They asked if we could maybe look at that from a like two different colors of gray, a darker gray and a lighter gray. We'll go back and we'll take that information. We'll go to the next one. This is another north view of that where the fly is going to be located. Then we'll go down here to the next one. This is the FCS with the windows. That is actually that window or that view is going to be of the art room. So they'll have more uh more light now than they normally

have in the art room because it has that one window in the back. And we go to the back next screen. This is what we came up with for the wrestling room with the letters. And I think we talked about this in the last meeting. Uh the Huskies having a back lit. So that's that's showing up at night. And as you can see, the roof line is a lot higher. It's going to be it'll mimic the uh gym behind it. And I think that's we're going into next steps. Okay. Yes. So here our next steps we're t in our in our process. So completed the schematic design in November. Now we're in design development where we have a little more intricate detail for us to come up with and have their numbers get a little

closer. And then in late June or January we should be completed with that and starting with our construction documents which those will go out to Ben. I'll let him talk about that in his next session. And I think, you know, we're going to go ahead and skip that last slide, Mr. Gross, because we changed that schedule today. >> Oh, yeah. >> So, that is where we're at. Do you have any questions? Anything you see that stands out? Like a lot of people have given feedback on it to this point. Anything that you see in some of the initial exteriors that >> What's the What's the floor in the wrestling room? I know the the boy wrestling room has a floor at the gets. Yep. Is that just slab or is it going to be a

pore similar? >> We're still in We're still working on that. >> I think right now it's spec to be just like the one that's in the boys, isn't it? >> Correct. >> Yeah, right now it's false with the sleepers. Y >> um still discussion whether or not we do um hard surface and then two mats or some other type. But yeah, right now expect to be kind of what the boys had. Um, how do you get to the balcony in the auditorium? I was looking >> there's really there's not a balcony. It's it's standing on the back and there's some steps that go up above the back. >> There's a Yeah. Yeah. If you want >> it kind of be like I35 has. Have you been over I35? >> Um, they goes it goes tall

in the back at >> Yeah. We're at the ranch too and it's not actually you enter Auburn the same. >> Okay. So, you can walk up. Yep. >> It's just theirs up into >> DCG has there's several of them that have now they've kind of gone to that correct. >> So there'll be a if I understand it correctly there'll be a walkway kind of right here >> and then the Stacia seating will go up. It says up like it it tells you like you see the steps you just kind of go up. It's it's raised in that back row. It's really nice. >> You just don't have to have a whole another balcony anymore. It's just >> putting seats in the back. So then to connect the two wrestling rooms, are those garage doors or

is it >> No, that was something that they did not want. >> Yeah, >> they didn't want when we went to originally when we talked about it as an admin team. We thought the garage door made sense. >> The coaches didn't um actually thought it would um wasn't a great use space. So there's just a door that'll go between them now, I believe. >> Yes, that's correct. >> They want to keep the mats on the wall. There'll be mats around the exterior except for the and probably on that one door too, but that was part of >> the doors. Yeah, >> I know this might be an addition, but I really like the exterior of the new edition. Is our competition gym going to look more drab than it does now? >> Just the pre-cast

walls. >> Yeah. Yeah. I don't know. >> We can do industrial. Well, well, let's uh >> this cost savings. >> Let's uh Yeah, I know. We'll uh we'll let Reed talk about the next part. I didn't talk about a thing or not. Talk about budget. >> That's why we have to build >> I think you're okay. I mean, from my perspective on that, and I don't I haven't talked to you about this yet, but from my experience in construction industry, when you're close to where you are, and I'm going to not ruin Reed's parade here today, I I think you're in a good spot today. That's what I would say. >> I think um one thing we talked to them about is um it's already hard to get people to the main entrance. I think

when you add this, people are going to really think that's your main entrance to the building. So, we talked about signage and how do we direct them up? I think having that parking lot up front will help. >> The addition of a better parking lot, but I mean, you're going to that Circle Drive will now have a really nice auditorium entrance, a really nice comp gym entrance, football field right there, and then a student entrance as well. That's going to look pretty nice. Yeah. Directing people to the main office. From there, we're gonna have to be some exterior signage and and communication because that'll >> that'll look like a a main entrance really. >> So, my thing with exterior is always making sure it blends and matches with everything we already have and that's whether

it's white, gray, or what >> we're incorporating that that limestone look the rest of the building, >> the capital on the top of it. There was a photo on there or not photo there was picture of a red section of the >> um but >> oh right here >> that is not yeah that color is not the brick >> it'll match the brick color here and it'll go around the other side too >> on the back side of the and that's part if you notice right now on that pre-cast it's got the rust coming down it >> looks worn it'll the paint will cover that up um question I had this is something I think this is what he's alluded You'll see the W on this one. >> There's a W there. There's the W

there. There's a W on the comp gym. There's a W on the main entrance. And I think that's what kids like. Do we break up the student the student entrance, which is this one over here? You put a husky head or something there just to break it up. I don't know. Does it make sense? >> I think that'd be good. >> I think that's what the kids were doing today. They were really helpful. I mean it's we only had probably 25 minutes with them and uh very uh I mean most every child or child every kid spoke in that so they had an opinion most part >> I just love it it's very deceiving because there's not that much green space in the north side of the plan >> right there like an infinite amount

of >> so that red piece that you just talked about >> this right here. Um, >> will it be red or will it be at a darker >> brick with the brick that red >> because it looks like a cover bridge right there. >> That's true. >> I didn't notice that before. >> Yep. That's a good point. >> It does kind of I think it our to match the brick. >> Yeah, we're going to try to match brick. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> Yeah. And this is the line that we got. Excuse me. That white's pretty stark. >> I agree. I Yeah, I like their comment about the white. Yeah, >> I didn't realize whatever we have on the front of that office we put on the top of that. It's not white, but it's

the it's a gray. >> Oh, right here. >> When we redid the high school, the main entrance. >> Yeah, we put it. >> It was It was yellow, >> correct? And then we >> on >> Oh, some of these were yellow originally. >> This right here. >> No. >> Yeah, >> that was like >> yellow fades. >> So, they went with this. >> I think was it this the stripes that they were >> the stripes the students were >> too much contrast. Yeah, they just didn't like the white. >> That was too much contrast. So, they were trying to go a little some contrast. >> Make it look industrial like the gym. Don't worry. >> I hate that. So that was you want to go up there and paint the pictures on it for you.

>> I'll call you up there with a ladder painting or >> All right. Thank you, sir. Any other questions for Chad? >> I'll sit in the backad. >> The inside's great. Just don't worry about it. Just only look at the inside. Tim can see, please. >> I'm well aware. Neither can I. >> So, good evening everybody. I'm Reed Fesping Smith. I'm pre-construction manager construction. I'm joined by Kylie Murphy in the back. Uh we're the team right now working on the pre-construction side for these projects. >> And so we presented our FD budget this morning. or is that see if we came through but I just want to give a go the high level stuff. Uh so Chad just worked through the what we're currently at in design and so I think it's good to remind

everybody we are still in the schematic level. Nothing really set in stone except for the general square of footage of the spaces that we're adding or renovating. Uh the overall uh scope of the work in terms of you know we need the rest of those are changing. Uh although finishes are still going to change as we continue to work with user groups and the staff uh you know colors all that stuff is still at a point where we can change those items. And so what we have is just a snapshot of what we see at the SD drawings. So this was right before Thanksgiving at the SD drawings. This is a snapshot of those costs. It's not what the costs are going to be on the final design. It's not what the costs are going

to be at the final day of construction. So it's a snapshot where we're at today. And uh it's very important for us um when we work with Lisa. I keep harping this to Justin's probably noticed me that we won't always be presenting total project costs, not just construction costs, but we're also providing values we call indirect or soft boss. These are items that the district will be paid directly. They're not going to be coming out of the either prime contractors contracts or our contract as part of construction. So, anytime you build, there's always things that go into that project that aren't there when you leave, like the brick and mortar, it's the insurance, it's the the trailer, it's the supervision, there's all these things. And so, we try to do a really good job of

including all those items. So, we're always updating total garage costs. So, that's what we look at today when we again this is a very high level. There's a 90 plus page I think handout we had today. So, I didn't want to inundate everybody with all that detail, but certainly anybody can help me if Justin has it. And we welcome any questions um that you may have as cutting to the chase uh before I kind of walk through the uh the approach. We're 2.3% over budget right now. Now, it's obviously sensitive uh that your budget's not growing, right? With that number line, we're going to hit that number. Um, but we're confident anytime you're less than 5% at this stage. We feel really good about it. We're trying to pack as much into the project as

we can right now. So, we're okay being a little bit over budget at this point because we have a lot of time left to work with Ray and the design team, especially between SD and D. Uh, DD budget will be coming to you guys uh at the March board meeting. I should have had that probably Valentine's Day I think is our >> So don't do the February know that fire that'll be more critical update of hey where are we at now because there's going to be a lot of detailed bins and drawings from what you just saw do that set that we're going to get and so what went into the budget you have today a lot of the renderings you saw Chad just walk through that's the schematic design we also have the existing

drawings from uh the 2019 project the original uh drawings from the tech center, what was formerly known as the tech center uh before it was a separate building. Uh the auditorium edition from 1997, I believe it was or excuse me 92. Uh and then we also had uh don't have the final geotechnical reports yet, but we have an early draft of the solar warnings that we did earlier in the year. We also have the site survey and we had the assessment reports that Brian Estus and MSA did right now. Yeah. >> So we took all that information. We're looking at the existing systems, the existing buildings and we're making those assumptions to see, okay, what do we have to do to the current buildings to make them look like what you just saw up on

the screen. And so part of those 90 pages was a lot of Kylie and I's assumptions and discussions of Bray. uh we're trying to identify uh and put data to all the numbers. So how many square feet of carpet, how many square feet of epoxy, etc., etc., etc. And so the the third slide you have there is is the summary. So you can see the first line item that is the construction total. So your original column that's what the master planning budget was at. So we'll get to the end of master planning. I believe that was presented in May. Those are the values we had. So, we're at 14,851,000 and some change. Currently for the SD, we're at 15,331 and some change. That's about $480,000 over. That's 3.2%. So, I don't want you to hear

that we're overconfident or or not sensitive that number. Obviously, that's not okay, right? Budget schedule is non-negotiable. We understand that. So, we're going to continue to collaborate with Bray between now and DD to get that back where it needs to be. And then the other items we're tracking, again, those are those indirect or soft costs. Uh we kind of broke those down into three categories. So your design fees, uh pretty self-explanatory, that's going to be bra consultants for all design work. Development costs, these are going to be like your soil borings, your geotechnical ports, uh your utility development fees, uh just a lot of those other costs that come along with that. And actually, if you go to the last page here, this is our current breakdown of all those costs. And so you can

see we're just starting to build that spreadsheet and we have a lot of estimated values in there, but we'll continue to work with Jill and Justin and the team between now and the end of January to really start to flush that out. And then that last section is FF and diesel fixtures, furnishings and equipment, any of the appliances you need, uh wrestling mats, uh you know, head equipment, uh like your telephones, your box, all that different stuff that on the tech side purchase. We're going to start tracking those, breaking it down in detail, but we have a set budget for those items right now. So the when you factor in all the soft costs or indirect costs get this to a total of $386,97 over currently that's where the 3.3%. Any questions? I threw a

lot of numbers at you. As as Chad mentioned, the next steps for us uh we're going to work with prey uh continue to update while detail and drawings. Really a big thing for us is validating our assumptions whether they're right, wrong or uh need to be tweaked. So working with the MP engineers as well, MSA and structural rank of roads. So we made a lot of assumptions on things we can't put link here's you know scope we want to use for the CTV renovation stuff like that we're get all that stuff ironed out so that we get to DD we have a much clearer picture that we're not carrying such a heavy contingency for design at this stage of trailer with 10% right included as well as 5% construction and that's the number we recommend

to carry into the project for any potential unknowns. So, anything that you're going to have in soils, uh, even though it's a limited scoped editions, more so is going to come into play when we tear down the auditorium, we tie into the existing art room. Uh, those types of things, you just you start open up walls. We have the drawings. You have good faith that everybody installed things per the drawings, but more times than not, you're going to find something. So, we recommend keep in throughout the entirety of the project. The intent there is uh not trying to inflate anything but we want to protect that overall budget. So at the last day of construction total project is at or under the total cost of fun questions. >> Thank you for all the members. So

Reed mentioned the on that last page of the fixtures we have a meeting next week where we'll start trying to pencil on what we need and then he'll go back and okay this is what that's going to cost and we'll try and stay within that a lotment as well. So >> okay thank you. >> Thank you guys. >> Thanks Chad. >> Thank you. Um, thank you Mr. Rethm. Strategic plan monitoring. >> Uh, Julie's got the longer one today. So, let's start with Julie. >> I didn't link anything. So, >> what? >> I didn't link anything. You want your reports? >> Uh, yeah. >> Oh, perfect. Holds up in there. >> Yeah. Perfect. Um, so as I shared at the beginning of this year, our theme kind of running through everything we're doing in the house

school this year is vision and power. So looking for those opportunities to empower our kids with your Pog and through their learning experiences. So it's been a busy last 45 days even though it was cool. Um, thanks to Gina for coming and watching the parade. I know you guys had um your conference in De Moine that same time, but it was it was really well done this year. Um every year we seem to get a little bit better. So I've just included uh some of our bigger projects that we have completed the fourth grade morphology parade which is based on the balloons over Broadway. Um with the plan being that 100% of our kids are involved. I wanted you to be able to see if you really stick to 100% of our kids are uh

involved as much as they possibly can be. So, fourth grade, fifth grade, we did something new um with the math standards. This year they randomly drew a mass standard that's been taught and wrote a story about the standard, but then they had to create a parade filled with a shoe box essentially um demonstrating that standard. And it was amazing like it was there's some really really good >> good stories of the kids that mission and power the piece that you don't get to see. you get to see them product, but the teams presented orally their story in their classroom to their um classes and that was put out on seed for parents to see what our how they were communicating about that project. Um the last one on there is the community rent. Uh again,

another successful year with this project. Um sixth grade has really taken it on. This is the one that PBL works out in California picked up through the Buck Institute and highlighted us for last year. Uh so again, the sales of the cookbook, they have a total that we'll present to Chris next week and so very excited. They very close to what we were able to give last year. >> We had someone buy eight. >> We're giving them as gifts. Yeah, that seems to be um a popular >> and we've used it multiple times since we've got it already. >> So, um just really proud of my teams under the work that they are doing, which leads me to strategic priority number two um about the the learning skills and the student opportunities could not be

done if teachers didn't have protected time to work together to plan those things. Uh so we are being very intentional with the time that we do get with teachers whether that's PLC or some PD time. Those are some snapshots of the days before we left for Thanksgiving break. Um we have made sure that in all of our classrooms there's a visual connection to PG. Uh there's discussion about targets. So if you walk into the room, you should be able to see what the kids have identified as what they're working on, whether that's communicator or innovative thinker. And then we're really moved into what that reflection piece. So putting the learning and the ownership back onto our students. But again, that's all done through the protected time that staff has to work. Uh strategic priority number

three, developing our self-worth and connection to others. our Best Buddies program um is up and going really strong. So, I just uh included a few pictures for you to see. That was the Thanksgiving uh activity. Miss Hatton is sharing it with the other Miss Hatton that's in my building this year and there JC has kind of taken the leadership of the program, but it's it's going really well. We have a lot of students who are involved in Best Buddies. if you're not familiar with that. Um I can talk about that but give you answer any questions you might have with that one. So and then the very last strategic priority the building authentic relationships and this one um is really what our building goal is written around. Uh and so I've included the memorable moments

survey. I give that to you every month in my board and report where we're at. And we have teams that look at those student responses. We look for patterns. We look for kids who maybe didn't give us one. We look for is it an academic something that they're starting to point to or is it something more fun and extracurricular so that we can be responsive to that. We decided at the middle school this year to do our CKH midyear survey prior to leaving for Thanksgiving. Um sometimes that's kind of risky, but because we had so many projects being done prior to Thanksgiving, one of our measures or building goal was to increase our family responses on that survey. So, if you were a fourth grade or sixth grade parent and we had eight kiosks set

up and we asked you to do the survey since you were right there. Um, we also had QR codes that they could do their phone in the pickup and drop off line. And so, last year we had 17 families respond. This year we had 36. So, doesn't sound like a huge number when you're talking about a building of 365 kids, but um that's doubling it. So, I was really pleased with that. And you can see there uh we're hitting all of the indicators for National Showcase. So, I just started now on that application that submitted. Um I think it's due January 15th. So I also included there at the bottom for you to see the comparison. Our dashboard through CKH gives us the ability to compare over time. And so not quite for sure what

happened last year, but that is a family responses that we've had. So that's why we targeted this year. And it looks like we're we're meeting our goal that we set out to do. The very last thing that I have for you is just some upcoming events specifically for the middle school. Our band and choir are going to be really busy this next 10 days. It's fun to go and watch them if you have an opportunity. Fifth and sixth grade choirs. They'll go to Astria. They're also um I don't have the date yet, but they typically go over to the senior lunch. um I can't say the name next IP they'll go there and they'll sing during their >> so invite you to come and join anything and everything that you'd like to we are going

to have >> the meal site the national >> the meal site >> meal site meal site yeah I said I'm like see the side but I can't. >> Yep. We're Tammy. Tell me Tammy. >> Yep. >> Busy busy. Super proud of the teachers and the students. >> Questions for keep up the good work. >> Yep. >> Excellent. >> Uh Doug, don't you >> All right. Yep. >> Pictures worth a thousand words. So here's six pictures, 6,000 words. Going quick though. Here we go. Um, first picture up there on the left is just getting out in the community and seeing things, learning about how some businesses work. Even in kindergarten, they went out uh saw the bakery, how they run all their stuff, run their machines. Um, had a great time with that. Down below is

second grade did their coin drive again this year. They try to do it every other year. Um, and they reached out, of course, to to businesses and then they taught F&M Bank again who matched and donated uh what what they had earned in coins. So, a good $3,000 for Crisp as well. Um, really excited about that. Celebrated that through a big school assembly. So, number two, integrating skills, having kids working on scrum boards. You know, as you're as you make a project in anything you do, you have to have okay, what do I have to do, what am I getting done and so on. So, if you look in the right hand side picture, that's the red column is their you can read it or not, the to-dos. Uh the orange column is doing. We

added one for third graders says check in with teacher. Uh and then the green column is the done column. So as they move their things across the board uh when they get all everything on the right hand column uh they should be done with their project for um the holiday holiday coming up here, the holiday market coming up. So you hear more about that. And then third, developing connections with others. Whenever you go to a specialist class, obviously there's fun stuff happen. This happened to be music. Um, and they were working on some folk dancing together as a group making connections. So, this is Bo Dley. There's music if you catch on Facebook. That's awesome. And then we worked with PTO and they did a coffee and cocoa and monster in the drop off lane.

>> Monster. Uh, so if you were there in the morning dropping off the kid, they walked your window and offered you a coke or cocoa coffee or monster. Um, and then asked kind of a donation or no one later. That went really well. I think they liked it. Well, loved it. >> I avoided that drop off even for coffee and cocoa. Doug, I'm sorry. >> Thought it was gold. It was really good. It went you do that kind of stuff. You think I'm going to slow down this wine. It's going to be terrible. >> If they're slinging it fast enough, you'll Yeah. >> Nobody was Nobody got in late. We haven't prayed. I mean, you confuse a few people, but it was it was great. >> Mr. Anker was mad. >> What's that? >> Mr.

Anker was mad. He dropped his kid off and went to make the donation when he only had two $1 bills. He think that was enough. Only the only other bill he had was a 20. So, he put the 20 in. >> That's like a chief game. Good coffee. >> I didn't like the coffee with you. >> Any questions for Doug? >> No, sir. >> Josh. >> All right. Yes. Strategic priority one. We're actively planning our postsecondary visits uh for our seventh and eighth graders. Our seventh graders are going to go to DMAC uh in April and we are working with ABC of Iowa again to bring our eighth graders there. Um, and then we're also planning our employer visits. So, our eighth graders are going to go to the Iowa Worlds February 6th. Um, and

our seventh graders, we're looking at doing something a little different, having them do three little mini employer visits, uh, in one day. So, take them over to Agra Vision, the hospital, and then split the kids at either Jones Creek or Lumberjack. And our goal at Jones Creek and Lumberjack is to have them bring a t-shirt design from idea to creation and learn about the design, the printing, distribution, the sales, all that goes into that. And then I will purchase a few different t-shirts that get they get created as a token of our day together there. Uh strategic priority two looking at um integration of 21st century skills. You want to click on that PG scoreboard. Great. This is the scoreboard that we use uh to track our progress towards implementation of uh the profile of

a graduate. Our uh wildly important goal for the year was to have uh 85% of teachers or let me make sure I get this right. uh will explicitly teach winter state junior high teachers will explicitly teach at least one specific learning uh target from the for graduate learning you know at least one day per week for 85% of the weeks between the 15th September and the 29th of May. So this what you're seeing here is teachers are updating this scoreboard weekly in their PLC meetings and it's a very quick snapshot. It lets us know how we're doing uh with meeting that wildly important goal. Um we've been uh working really hard in preparation for this Wednesday. We have a celebration/calibration of learning where teachers are going to come and bring student artifacts along with reflections

and they're going to do a sorting protocol to kind of calibrate where uh students are at with the production of work aligned for our undergraduates. So um this this gives you a picture of what our PLC looks like um and keeping ourselves accountable to this goal um in preparation um for uh the collaboration of learning. Um actively working on getting a public speaking workshop uh set up. Um we have our keynote assembly um on the 20th where gentleman to come in and speak about the art and science of public speaking and the power that uh comes with the ability to communicate effectively and to hold an audience. That'll be a jumping off point for signups for the authentic learning showcase in March where it's a present a celebration of learning for student projects. Um number

three is uh connection and so forth. We had our um rake uh community service project at the historical society that went really really well to a bunch of leaves. Um and then priority for work uh relationships. We have our holiday party on the 23rd. We're gonna have Santa come back and drop off some gifts um for the kid and do some pancakes and all that good stuff. And then on the 19th, some building notes. We have a utopia project presentations. Seventh grade been working really hard. Uh this year all the core content areas have worked together to have a crosscurricular um component to it. So we have math, science, social studies, work, and literacy. Um so yeah, if you're around on the 19th from 1 to 3, feel free to stop by and watch this.

I got my reminder email today from Mr. Allen because I had not responded. >> Any question, Josh. >> Thank you, sir. Thank you for the leaves being raked and piled very nicely on the pile. >> Uh Cam must be overseeing the concert night. He said he said, "Hey, I got to step out to go get money for the concert." So, that's where he's at. He did link his update. So any questions you have or I can communicate those to him if you need me to. >> Look good to me. >> All right. >> Uh yep, that's all for. Okay. Uh consent agenda. We have a personnel report on there. Um that's there. No open enrollments in or out. No contracts, no agreements. But we do have a list of um early graduates that's been provided

to us. We've already approved some of them because they were >> we had them the first term. So we have a few term two, couple term three, and then a couple um early ones for end of junior year. >> So as long as they've met all the requirements, it's just nice to I always say it's I I'll say this every time. It's nice to have that little little couple paragraphs just to >> what their plan is. >> Yep. Two sentences is y and thrilled to see that. >> Yep. Makes them at least, you know, kind of think about it and Yeah. So, >> any things on those? If not, I would entertain a motion to approve the consent agenda. >> Is there a second? >> Second. >> Motion by Tim, second by Jeremy. Any other

discussion? All those in favor say I. I >> oppose. Same sign. Motion carries. Uh no old business. So we'll move into new business. We have a public hearing um for the 20 uh year FY20 >> FY27 academic calendars. So we will go into public hearing at I have 609. Anybody from the public here to speak on behalf of the fiscal year 27 academic calendars? Anything submitted on behalf of the public? Okay. Do we want to any discuss like Okay. Anybody any questions while we're No. I hate to close it in one minute. I mean >> it is 610. So >> I it is 610, but I mean I want to give it an op option here. No. Okay, Jill, I'm going to go ahead and close public comment at 610. Okay, public hearing me. Okay,

next up, approval of fiscal year 27 school calendars. Mr. Gross, is this you? >> Yep. So as I shared before we found a committee that met um three times Cory I think three other meetings um after the first meeting they gave us some options C and I created four drafts of calendars uh and then based on that feedback in the survey that we sent um kind of settled on the calendar that's in front of you at our last meeting. So big changes for this year uh next year over this year would be um the decision to go to school on the Monday and Tuesday of Thanksgiving break. And what we did is we moved those days to after quarters. So after first quarter that Monday will be a no student day after semester be a

no student day. That also lines up with MLK day >> um to have for a no student day. And then Easter falls really nicely. uh next year where that Monday is actually the Monday after the end of term three for that comp day. And then obviously the big change is moving from a one hour late start on Wednesday to a 90 minute uh early release on Friday. Um and some of the questions that the board had was what does that do to hours? Um it does drop our hours. You know this year's calendar I think is 11:26 11:27. You can see that next year by going that drops it by about 10 hours. Um so that does bring in the potential of if we'd have a really bad year with snow of maybe having to

make up days at the end. It just takes you know 10 hours is um you we figure our school day is a six and a half hour day. So it's you know you know not quite two days but a day you know definitely a day that we're we're cutting out of that time. Um, anything else, Corey? As far as the big change, I think that's it. >> That's it. >> And one feedback I'm sure um you're probably hearing it and Corey and I, we hate to say that we mentioned it last year, but the fact that we're going to school on the 23rd of December this year is is um and we pointed out last year, but they they wanted to get two days. They're not loving it right now. So, that was that. We

don't want to go to 23rd next year, so that it works out. um >> to to not and still get two days that week of Christmas. So questions for me and then the other uh in addition to that that's the counter graph you're used to seeing. I showed you the two other versions that is like a staff and a >> um that's a little more branded um like we have. It doesn't have the hours on calculation that Cory and I like to have on the calendar but so we have a couple of versions that just are transferring that information over. And then the preschool calendar, obviously the big change for preschool is um the day off will now be Friday. So they used to not have school on Wednesday because of the late start. They

just won't have school on those Fridays because of the the 90minute uh early dismissal. >> I'm sure Jess is has been thinking about homecoming parade and all of that with >> we that is that is something we talked about having to be negotiated. we had talked about in the past um letting school out anyway >> and then having the pray after. >> Um yeah, it was >> it just stuck out on the it was I picked up on I thought what other Friday things do we you know is it but really >> Mr. Smith is, you know, can't he's not here and I speak for him, but he's thrown out, you know, making something on a Thursday night and making a little bigger. I don't know what that does for parade, but you know, where

the coronation would be like on a Thursday evening, more people could probably attend it >> Friday afternoon instead of Friday at noon. >> So, yeah, that's something we did bring up in the conversation. It'll definitely need tweaked. Don't want to get rid of the parade. It's a big deal how people show up for it. Um, but definitely something we'll have to navigate. >> Um, one thing I had I'll just I I'm all all for late start early out PD. That what we are here for. Um, I just would like to challenge the building admin, you know, maybe doing some Julie had a little bit in hers this time, but g I'd like to see a little more update on how that 90 minutes is being spent with PD. Um, so we're kind of just seeing

that and you know, we get the process monitoring the students. We see that every month, but you know, maybe a little more on what our our staff is using those 90 minutes for. Um, and I'm not not saying they're not. I'm just, you know, that would just so we can kind of monitor that and see if that's working and how that's working for everybody. >> That's just me. I that that's not I mean >> I think that's a very reasonable expectation. you know, we talked about I think the fear is uh coaching and you know that time and Corey's in a district right now that that utilizes a van meter and Adele and when I talked to um you know Greg about he's like yeah the expectations there PD that'll just our building principles are

going have to make sure that they're not skipping out um that's their contract first and then they they can go coach after like they always have. Now there will be situations when they have to leave which which happened you know now you know they just we can't avoid those having to get on the bus to go travel agree 100% you know Williamsburg's two hours away that's going to be >> so but no I think asking you know a little clear on what we're using that time for I think a reasonable expectation >> and one of the things at the very beginning when we start planning for the next school years there is like right now there is a structured schedule of the Wednesday morning and that would be this will be the exact same conversation

on times and what those days are and what that looks like and then that starts to fill in as school year gets going too. So that same structure that exists for Wednesday will exist for Friday with times and end times and start times and things like that just like it does for now. >> And I don't have a dog in the fight one way or the other with Wednesday or Fridays. Don't care. I just don't want to have to revisit it every year. That was a conversation. No, that was >> we locked this in for like five years. >> That was a conversation. They said, "Well, this would you switch back?" And I said, "There would have to be something >> drastic that occurred >> that um >> we dang it." >> Uh no, that

>> I think it's time to have some longevity to it. you know, the 4 day week that gets shown out there. Um, I don't plan to bring that to you unless you ask me to. I'm just going to be honest as a I you know, our conversation, our conversation is what problem are we trying to solve, right? >> I don't know that it is. And um things that people miss in that when that comes up, I think that you need to remind them, you know, 36% of our kids are on frame reduced lunch. That's one more day that they don't we're not feeding them. you know, one day a week. Now, they have a three-day span where they're there may or may not be getting a meal. We're able to provide them, you know, structured

environment with a hot meal. Um hourly staff like um would you just continue to would you pay them so they don't see a deduction in there? Um I don't know. And you know, you take a bus driver is a really easy one to calculate. That's four hours a day that we base theirs roughly four hours. It's really easy to calculate the impact for them. You know, take that four hours times 36 Fridays or Mondays or whatever, 36 weeks in the year times your hourly rate. That's what they're not going to get paid. Um so all those things are >> well and the impact in the community those bodies that we don't have in seats you could provide when I >> I haven't heard any talk of anyone who would be excited about getting >> there's

there's some rumblings out there. There's there's pockets. >> I just don't intend it. I don't really I don't until I'm directed by you to do that, I don't I don't plan to bring that to you. But I also think this attention span on students being in seat longer. >> Yes. Because they're going to have to extend the day. >> Yeah. So unless this gives me direction, >> I don't plan to do that. So >> any other questions? >> Any other things from the board? I mean, we have to prove it. We got to live by it. They have to make it work. But >> that's what I think that's fine. >> I know from a teacher standpoint, writing a PDS at the end of the day, >> we thought the same thing. >> But if

that's what >> that's what they want, >> but Adele are they'll tell that they love it. >> And the teachers had input on >> the problem. >> Yes. This is largely gonna buy our sc. Okay. That's >> if I heard every time like don't you know what does every time I hear that? >> Well, she didn't know. >> Say one time. >> Yes. >> This wasn't necessarily one of the things where we're like, "Hey, we have an idea like we want." Like it was more the other way around. was good but um >> and you know we bold the public and it was I mean yeah >> 50% said yes they wanted this and then you had a fraction that was indifference and as a a portion of other 50% that didn't the majority or

slim did say that this is what they would >> y okay any other discussion >> good luck administrators keeping your own task for but that's up to you guys want that's fine with So >> with that, I would entertain a motion to approve the calendars, all four of them, the school calendar, the staff calendar, the academic calendar, and the preschool calendar as presented. >> So moved. >> Is there a second? >> Second. >> Motion by Gina, second by Tim. Any other discussion? All those in favor say I. Oppose. Same sign. Motion carries. Okay, next up we have the SBRC. Uh, why can't I figure out school board? No, >> school budget review. There you go. Um, open enrollment out not on prior year's headcount application there for 236,426. Anything else to add to that, Jill?

If we can get money, we always ask for it. >> Authority. authority sorry authority any questions on that one not I entertain a motion to approve the request for the open enrollment out not on prior years headcount in the total of moved >> motion by Gina is there a second >> second by Jeremy all those in favor say I oppose same sign motion carries next up is the SBRC request for English learners instruction beyond 5 years for 11,000 742. Same thing. Anybody have any questions on that? If not, entertain a motion to approve the SPRC request for the 11,742 on English learners instruction beyond 5 years. >> Motion by Jeremy. Is there a second? >> I'm going to give it to Tim. Tim with the second. All those in favor say I. >> Oppose. Same

sign. Motion carries. Next up is the winter set 2627 at risk and dropout prevention plan. >> Yeah. So this is a little more extensive than what you guys are used to and this came out of um yeah there's actually code that need plan when you go to SBRC and ask for modified sub amount for dropout prevention. All these things would be need to be in your plan. Districts had kind of gotten away from it a little bit. Um the DU pointed out that they did an audit um and if the board doesn't approve land that's in your code then your SPRC becomes uh boy >> it's just not valid. >> Yeah. >> So I had actually worked on this in a previous district um pulled that out dusted it off. Kendra took it and ran

it and made it ours. It covers all the required components which you'll see on that what page is it? Yeah, there it is. Um 281.2 2 uh 513. Yep. Spells out if you go through it. Those things are all in there. Um you'll approve it now. Jill's working on the application. They're finalizing that and then we'll have that uh you'll approve the SPRC request for dropout prevention um uh in January. Anything else you'd add on that Kendra? Anything? >> I say I mean it's more robust, but we've had a plan. I mean we've had a >> Yeah, we just had to cross the ice. >> Yeah. Yeah. >> Okay. Any questions on the proposed plan for at risk and dropout prevention? >> Not entertain a motion to approve the plan as presented. >> I'll make

that motion. >> Motion by Gina. Is there a second? >> Second by Tim. All those in favor say I. Oppose. Same sign. Motion carries. Next up is our policies that need annual review. review >> because they're annual meeting kind of this time of year. These are just policies that are identified that need an annual review. Um I put them all in one document I think a year ago, January maybe two years ago. >> Um so it's all one spot. Um asked that you would approve them. Some of these may get tweaked. I doubt it. Um but we're scheduled to go through 100, 200, and 300. >> We're back on those again. >> Yeah. On your fiveyear this spring. But >> I bet that was fun. >> These all have to be annually reviewed. They're all

linked in the notes. Um, yeah, the notes that govern them are there as well. So, any questions on that? But again, just >> major changes. >> So, any questions on those? I entertain a motion to approve the review of board policies requiring an annual review as presented. >> Motion by Jeremy. Is there a second? >> Second. Second by Gina. All those in favor say I. Oppose. Same sign. Motion carries. Resolution for conference expansion. >> Yeah. So, this is a topic we've run around a few times um with the conference alignment committee that was passed last year. Lots of conference movement kind of forcing some movement that probably maybe wouldn't have happened in the past for people to drag their feet. Um so the RSC executive committee um took recommendations from the ads and principles. Uh

we've met with uh Pella and Bane Meter um and would like the board to approve us through this resolution extending a formal invite if it's approved by a majority of the RC boards um then we would get a formal invitation to Pella and Dam to join the conference in 2728 questions. So I know they haven't voted because they haven't had the formal invite but informally have they expressed interest. >> So yeah they have informally. So we had four um schools that were have expressed interest in the past. Um a couple we didn't as an executive committee weren't interested in. U these two we were of the four more interested in. Um in our oneonone meetings I can't speak for them yet but I think there's some interest. um to join the conference. >> Where would

that put us enrollment wise? >> So we would be near the smallest baby would be smaller than us. Um is Ballard still right there? >> I say Ballard's probably about the same still >> right close to us. Um and you see my superintendent update. I think the everybody is decreasing enrollment. So when we uh in our meeting with Pel for example Tim um they're they have class of 200 close to 200 high school now they're 140 >> y >> their elementaryaries are are 140s >> um and I put in there those all of our commerce schools are expecting some decreasing in enrollment um and that's across the state birth rates are down so but we would definitely be on the smaller side we would be bigger than van meter >> um close to Ballard. Um,

and Boon is experienced to be decreasing a little bit, but yeah. >> Was the only one I was really happy about on that. >> Yeah. And that was conversation we had as as a committee, you know. Um, obviously they're they're very talented um in a lot of sports. Um, and I think it also makes our conference really strong. You know, the other two that here's the fear, right? If you don't actively seek who you want in your conference, the conferencing alignment committee, those two districts that we we weren't as interested in, um I anticipate them probably going to the committee and trying to get in. Does that make sense? >> Yeah. >> So, um trying to make the conference as strong we can, trying to find teams that fit. Um yeah, there are pros and

cons with both. Um yeah. Have you guys spent an administrative team talking to the coaching staffs at all about? >> Not really. Um I've had informal conversations with the coaches um but nothing formal. Um yeah because ultimately our option is to stay in the conference as it is or or leave right if the conference votes to go here. >> That's kind of the approach I took right wrong or different you know Tim is um >> well I don't think we need to put it to a vote. I was just wondering if you know I've had it I've spoken to um a couple of coaches informally about it. Um similar concerns. >> Yeah. >> You know, I think you know Pel's they're a bigger school. They're winning lots right now. Um you know I think our

conference is already one of the toughest conference in the state and you add these two teams and it doesn't get any easier. Impella is over 60 miles for everyone but Carile. >> I gave you the Carol wasn't. >> Yeah. Yeah. Just different direction now. >> I sent you the I that document all the information. Yeah. That breakdown earlier too. >> It's really I mean it's >> Yeah. >> Go north northwest or >> southeast. >> Straight on 92 for us and a little north. But um it's not a pleasant drive. >> There's no good way to get there right now. >> No, there's no direct way. >> Yeah. But my biggest fear is that if we don't do something, we're going to end up >> with somebody going Oola's I mean not no disrespect to Oola,

but I would much rather have us remain >> instead of getting placed where we don't want to be played. >> Yeah. >> Or get somebody placed with us than >> Yeah. That's that's the >> And this full disclosure. >> Absolutely. >> Um we can do all of this and that not happen. >> Correct. So the commentary alignment committee they sent something out uh the associations put something out this week and today I was reading um if both if uh both conferences don't unanimously agree >> like to for a team to leave and the other conference team to join then it goes to the committee the community decides >> unanimously >> they have to unanimously agree for example our conference unanimously Carol all the board said yes we're free with you to go Hawkeye 10 said

they're all want them to come that we're being told will be through an expedited process through this committee. Um I don't anticipate um those you know the Hawkeye 10 or the little Hawkeye all of them saying yes and so that could hold that up. There was a lot of talk at convention about there's districts it's moving all >> yeah that could hold that that could hold that up and have to go through the committee. So this isn't a done deal. Um it's just as a conference us saying like hey our board hopefully we'll see how it shakes out. Majority of the board's approved these these teams joining the conference but it more than likely will still have to go through the committee or so would be the lesser two evils is what you you believe

>> that's kind of the discussion >> known I mean we know >> that's the discussion in our conference with versus the other two that were wanting to join before um we threw a full a formal invite at Nevada and we're turned on they need to entertain it yeah which would fit the bottom the schools in our confer a little better. They kept it a little closer for a lot of those other ones. >> Yeah. >> They also the their conference also did a lot of work to try and put together a conference too though. They brought in Woodward Granger and and they got themselves to a 10 team conference right now that they feel at 90 miles. >> Yep. Time on a bus. Yeah. All right. Now's the time. Any would like to recommend to

approve the resolution for conference expansion to Pella and Van Meter for 2728. >> I'll make that motion. >> Motion by Tim. Is there a second? >> I'll second it. >> Second by Gina. Any other discussion? All those in favor say I. Oppose. Same sign. Motion carries. Next up, approval of an added fundraiser. Looks like Miss Kriswell is looking to do a little work with the Junior High Student Council. Uh, anybody like to make a motion to approve that? >> So moved. >> Is there a second? >> Second. >> All those in favor say I. >> I. >> Post same sign. Motion carries. McKenzie. >> Perfect. Perfect. >> Thanks. I know I am. >> So, student council is now just currently working working on winter set or on winter plans. Um, since we're done with our

busy season, just kind of start time really low and just get our school decorated and everything for winter. So, we're now getting into our winter set or I keep saying winter set our winter councils. Um, two of those being our decorating and assembly. So recently, I mean yesterday, we got together just to decorate the hallways just all winter. It was really cute. Everybody came together for that. People got silver court hours, so that was definitely an incentive. Um, next, the assembly. So for the last year of school, so it would be on Tuesday, not next week, but the week after, we're hoping to plan like some games and something fun for the students to do. Um, next, we haven't done this since my sophomore year, I believe, but we are planning a council exchange with

Vanderan again. So, this basically entails us going to Bonant, seeing how they run their school, how they do some student council activities, and then they also come here. So, I feel like that'd be a good experience to branch out a little bit more. Um, next is our Alabaster Christmas, and we're pairing with NHS to go and sponsor like a free store for people to shop at for toys and everything. And this will be at the Redeemer Church at 6:30, I believe. Yes, on December 12th. So, anybody's free to go. Um or anybody's anybody can go. Um but that is basically it council. >> Thank you, ma'am. Gina, >> I don't thank you for everybody for what you're doing. >> Tim Jack, I think they left, but Jackie helped with the interviews at the junior high

and high school and said they were very well organized when the kids did a really really good job and the organization of it was topnotch. >> Jeremy, >> not really anything. The conference was good. >> Um, one of the forms I sent in was about emergency preparedness. I think we talked about that afterwards and felt good. >> Yeah. our firefighters and police officers in case of emergency. And >> there was a there was a good one where I think it was Cedar Rapid a live um hostage. >> Oh, did like a tabletop exercise or >> Yeah. with the kids in the >> Oh, wow. >> Yeah. Yeah. So, very very interesting. >> Yeah. It was just some good comments in general. >> I have nothing. Lots of things going on. It's that busy next couple

of weeks and lots going on and everybody keep your head above water and we got this. >> And it's you slide back in and it's cold, dreary January. So, all right, Mr. Gross. >> A couple things. So, uh, real quick, my benefits channel. Um, so Joe's done a lot of work on the side looking into um the benefits of us maybe moving from our does a lot of our HR uh paperwork. Um feels like this is a better move for us costwise and what it'll produce. There'll be some training to do with our staff, but we'll probably make that change. Won't impact you guys much, but um just how we handle things in terms. No, just hoping to be more efficient. >> Yeah, moving forward more electronic um paperwork and stuff. So, and on boarding

and and exit forwarding like that. >> Big thing is that it ties into teach where I have to post jobs and this will so have to post in multiple spots. We'll still but on the back side a lot of the paperwork that goes between for HR will be handled seamlessly and electronic which will be nice. Um I'm going to skip I'll do my goals here at the end. Um well let's say session again this decline state revenues is starting to uh pop up. I don't know but several of my colleagues are hearing 0 to 1% in SSA. That would be bad. Um >> be real bad. >> We've asked represent Sorenson to come to a board meeting before usually this meeting and in conversation with Jared. Thought we'd hold off. Let's see maybe what the

governor throws out what they're speaking as proposal and then see if I can get him to come here. Um they're still saying property tax reform. Uh >> yeah. >> So again, um once we hear what it is, it may be worthwhile to see if we can get him here and just walk through what that that could mean. Uh crazy, you know, the save is being even come up as a way to that's I don't know how you do that. I don't know how they could do that, but again, that's what's on the rumor rail. Um again, so I think once we hear what the governor proposes kind of chicken out, maybe we ask represent Senson. I'll be at the day on the hill. Are you >> in January? Um >> you're gonna come >> January

11526. Yeah. Um we >> good. It is a good one to come. We go. >> Well, and let me know because then we've tried if there's more like Jerry, we've tried to actually get a sit down >> with Sinclair and Senator. >> Um >> that's a good one. >> We'll know a little better by then what where things are trending. Um so we can I think it's just maybe more time better spent than um like I said it was interesting in our conference just around I mean uh Boon Bonak Carl ADM North Pole Ballard all decreasing enrollment this year um out of ADM as well like one kid that they're down um and so they're all having that conversation about how do you navigate it um and and cut expenditures and those things. Um I

know you guys been on the board, we've taken them as they've come and where there may be some growing pains, I think we're in a pretty good spot financially because of that. Um just going to have to continue to look at those positions when they come open. Um anyway, so that just I thought that was interesting. Thought I'd share. Uh Luxo projection, I sent that to you uh a while ago. Um Matt, Reed, and Steve have done a lot more investigation of it. um they recommended 60,000 which was like a 6,000 lumen. They went and saw a 4,000 lumen. They thought it would be fine. That's about a $45,000. And then anywhere to put the electricity the electricity between, you know, 69 or 6,900 and 8500 um to get that going. They'd like to afford

with it. So I'm probably afford with moving and getting that up and running. Last thing on there is we finalized the purchase of the house that the check was sent. >> I saw a little saw in the expenditure >> took a little bit to get through that navigating that back and forth, but we were able to do that. Um they're updating just uh what was Jennifer updating last thing she had to update once the check cleared. I can't remember the eum to get in their name. But so, uh, when we get down to the facility, we'll talk about what we're going to move forward as far as that rush, but that took care of. Um, last thing is goals. So, uh, real quick, this is a Yeah, I kind of check in for you in

the goals. We used to do this close session. We can't do long, which is fine. Um, I think I've kept you up to date. Uh, yeah, you if you if you seen the board up weekly updates, you're probably okay. um just put some things in there that I've done so far. Uh the articulation of activities document uh the definition of authentic learning. Um and then I put our admin agendas. So if you click on the admin agendas, this is our running agenda for the year. Um it just goes through and um I'll just jump in like every one of our meetings. We start with a lot of our strategic priority, worldly commitments, some of the dashboards. This was the first one of the year. Um, so this is back in August, but it's just a

running agenda. We talk about the strategic priorities every time we meet, what commitments we're making, and then dive into the rest of the stuff. So, um, just keeping that work at the very forefront, um, with our admin team anytime we meet. Uh, the second one as far as the prog graduate is, you know, ours is really making sure that we, um, hold on. Sometimes it doesn't repress the best. Uh so um a couple of documents I worked with Corey just to make sure that all of our staff are integrating these um uh PG. This is the share out that they talked about uh that they're going to do in December and in January uh in November we worked to backwards plan for staff so they were prepared for this little bit of accountability but also

a chance for them to showcase the work. A lot of what Julie mentioned um is built into this and this is you know supported by our work with Andrew Stewart. Um so again just trying to make sure that we are integrating the provider graduate into our lessons. Um and this is the kind of another document that um Corey and Andrea and I coordinator really but um put together that's just keeping this work uh moving forward for our district um and all the buildings are are putting it into practice as well. Um It takes a lot for the same refresh. I apologize. Uh so CKH implementing the um the components of CK this is the traction plan that I developed during our training. I participated in a training with staff last um two weeks ago now.

>> Yeah. Oh my gosh. Yeah. >> Thanksgiving week. Longgo. And this is the plan that I put together based on my feedback around um the areas where I was um yeah they call them what do they call them weaknesses >> strength and constraints >> constraints constraints um probably shock for you um but I'm a a low need to nurture not a feeler which is um so area that I can work on but I want to share I sat through the training staff and have a traction plan. All our administrators did too. Um we built it into our agenda. We were going to do it last week and then time got away from us, but we'll revisit that as a team uh when we meet this week. You know, where where are we all trying to

hold each other accountable and getting better as leaders around CKH. So just some progress there. Come on. Uh this is the information I share with you. uh monitoring historical trends and where we're at. These are all documents you've seen, but it's the beds enrollment that I update, the um comparison by grade level that I update every fall. Uh the fact sheet, you know, this sheet that we worked put together that goes over all of our finances um that Jill and I and then the DO group worked together. And then that historical tax rate trend that's got the last 12 plus years of all that information. So again, just work that I continue to do around um budget management and keeping you informed. Again, these are things that have been linked in in weekly board updates

as well. And then the last one is the the construction project which um yeah, the core planning team minutes. I just linked the document to you. I participate in those meetings every two weeks. Talk to the update here. Um so again, just some of the work I've done around the goals. Any questions, comments for me? About, you know, halfway through the year roughly. Not quite. >> Keep up the great work. >> Well, it's a busy year. >> Good things going on. >> Um, do you have access to this? I don't know if I've ever asked you this. >> Actually, I was going to talk to you about that. I none of us have access to this because I think you all we have is to do the final revision at the end of the year,

the review. We struggle with this at with DT as well at the IASB. There's something you have to do somewhere >> to set up so you can see it before publish. >> Correct. >> Let me dig into that a little bit. >> If all this fails, I'll get you Jesse's contact. He'll get you set up. >> Yeah, that's we moved this a couple years ago to do it all through assembly. So those are in there and then I link and then at the end of the year >> there's an evaluation tab. All I have access to is the actual reviews that we've completed. >> The ones that are finished. >> Yes. But there is a way >> for you to show in pro that give the colors and the dot like Yeah. there. It's just

there's a setting somewhere in there. >> Okay. Um but anyway, it's on here. And so we do this update and I do another one in March. >> I think we do the review and then we do the kind of open it up for you guys to provide feedback after that my evaluation. So >> I think you and Ross would be Tim went through it last year saw the docu. >> So I'll make sure you and Ross have access to that. >> Uh that's what I got for me. Anything else for Justin? >> No. Next meeting is during the new year already. My goodness. January 12th. >> I will need to zoom into that one as well. >> That's when you're on it. >> That's my uh No, that's uh the fellowship in in Chicago. >>

Chicago. Okay. >> Yeah, >> that's fine. >> Everybody else will be here on the 12th. You're not going to be down south where it's warm. >> Not as far as I know. >> It might change tomorrow. >> Yeah, it's real cold. >> He gone. If nothing else, we are adjourned.
