Your ability to rise, to adapt, and to keep moving forward >> [music] >> when life gets hard will take you farther than talent ever could. Strength is not found in never struggling. It is found in refusing to stay down. And today we have a powerful example of resilience [music] among us. Julian Herrera is a strong student who has overcome a tremendous obstacle of cancer. >> [music] >> And today he stands here before us as a symbol of courage, perseverance, and hope. Julian, >> [music] >> we are proud of you. We are proud of all of you in the class of 2026, and we wish you all

the best as you pursue your life in the future. >> [music] [singing] >> Let it go. Let it go. >> [screaming] >> Let it go. Let it go. >> [music] >> Let it go. Let it go. >> [cheering] >> Let it go. Let it go. >> [music] >> Let it go. Let it go. >> [music] >> Let it go. >> [music] [music] >> When I wake up in the morning, love, and the sunlight hurts my eyes, and something without warning, love, bears heavy on my mind. Then I look at you, and the world's all right with me. Just one look at you, and I know it's going to be A lovely day. [singing] >> When the day that lies are ahead of me seem impossible to [music and singing] face when someone else instead of

me always seems to know the way then I look at you and the world's all right with me. Just one look at you and I know it's going to be a lovely day. When the days that lie ahead of me seem impossible to face and when someone else instead of me always seems to know the way then I look at you and the world's all [singing] right with me. I just one look at you and I know it's going to be a lovely day. >> having fun and that you find [music] your people. Because it's about who you surround yourself with >> [music] >> and it's about enjoying the ride. >> Graduating class of 2026, this is Mr. Stevens. Um, if I'm going to give you guys any piece of advice going out into the

real world, [music] I would give you this. I know a lot of you guys don't know what you're going to do with your life with career wise or what not. Some of you may already have that set up, but for those of you that don't know or what not, even if you know what you're going to do, the easiest thing and the best thing that I can provide for you guys is to try to find and chase happiness because especially if you don't know what you're going to do, if you do a job that you love, you're not really working any day of your life. And that's something that my grandpa told me and as a teacher now, I love my job, but I don't feel like I work a day in my life. So,

[music] that's my biggest piece of advice I can give to you guys is find what makes you happy, pursue that as a career, and then your life will be so much more happy. Promise you. I trust you. Okay? All right. One word of advice I would have is if you are going to college or university, definitely join clubs, definitely attend orientations, and attend any student activities you can so that you can [music] make a lot of friends and make connections for when you do graduate college. And if you're not going to college, well, just do your best in trade [music] school, and go out there and join clubs either way to make more connections. What's up, class of 2026? Um whatever you guys are going to be doing, so trade school, college, going into [music]

the military, whatever, um follow your dreams, work as hard as you can, uh shoot for the stars, and wish you guys the best of luck, man. Uh word of advice for the class of 2026. Gosh, what could I say? Um I think the biggest thing you need to keep in mind [music] is that we do always want to live for tomorrow, but you always need to think about today. So, whatever you're planning, think about what today needs to be in order to have that future that you want. So, always keep that in [music] mind because we still need to live in today. We can't just always have our heads in the cloud. So, [music] find that education, um whether it be in a community college, in a trade, in military, in a four-year, [music] education

is something different for everyone, but just make sure that you continue to learn so that way you can live in today for tomorrow. I wish you guys the best. In 10 years Uh in 10 years In 10 years >> In 10 years In 10 years In 10 years, I see myself I'm really rich, with like a big car, making millions of dollars. I'll be with a lot of bread. Very comfortable, having big money. Rich, in a city apartment, um, BMW sports car, starting my own aesthetics business, and yeah. Lifting my narrow hoping to own my own business for like med [music] spa, so Botox injections. A construction business owner. I'd be owning my own business, probably like a welding company. That's what I want to do. Be working for my own company, electrical engineering, something

like that. Be successful, take care of my family, and owning a farm. Having my own land, house in the reservation, where my whole land is. Living in on a farm with a lot of animals that I can like help and care for. I'll be working with all kinds of animals and stuff like that. I love animals for sure, so. A stable career in animal sciences or marine biology. Elementary school teacher. Just being a teacher for third grade. Up at either a med school or dental school. Completing my, um, residency to become a family physician. In medical school, and then possibly going to residency. I'll be a CEO. RN A, and have a family. A successful sonographer. I see myself with my own house, and at least one daughter. Being a nurse, helping people out, um,

specifically like little babies that are in need. Being a dental hygienist. I'll be a labor and delivery nurse. As a registered nurse. Nursing a baby still at school, probably. Living in New York with my dream career of being an actor. Myself doing photography with my cousin for his company. Hopefully something with music, something that has to do with it. As a mechanic, but I'd get a nice car by then. In a computer science field. I'll be a welder. Job like a electrician. Just providing for [music] the family. Doing HVAC, or fully pursuing semi truck with my dad. Passing the bar and defending people as an attorney. At school, and I'm going to have a family and a husband and kids. A stable job and a family. Maybe married, and living in California. Hopefully living in

California with my own house, and hopefully a kid as well. Stay at home mom with a kid and a very nice husband. I want to have my degree and be a mommy. I'll serve in the military. I want to be a service member. I want to still be in the military and own a lot of property. Maybe a guard or left tackle in the NFL. Uh team? Either the Lions um or Ravens. Making money from my own streaming. Hey, hey shout out Lil Teebs. SHOUT OUT LIL TEEBS. YEAH. >> [screaming] [screaming] >> SO YOU'RE STILL thinking of [music and singing] me just like I know you should. I cannot give you everything. You know [singing] I wish I could. >> [music] >> I'm so in the moment. I'm so caught up in this. Yeah, we're

just young, dumb, and [music] broke, but we still got love to give. [singing] While we're young, dumb, young, young, dumb, and broke. Young, [music] dumb, young, young, dumb, [singing] and broke. Young, dumb, young, young, dumb, and broke. Young, dumb, [singing and music] broke high school kid. Young, dumb, broke high school kid. We [music] have so much in common. We argue [singing] all the time. You always say [music] I'm wrong. I'm pretty sure I'm right. What's wrong about [singing] commitment when we have all life to live? Yeah, we're just young, [singing and music] dumb, and broke. We still got a love to give while we're young, [music and singing] dumb. Young, young, dumb, and broke. Young, dumb. Young, young, [music] dumb, and broke. Young, dumb. Young, young, [singing] dumb, and broke. Young, dumb, broke high school

kid. Young, dumb, [singing] broke high school kid. Show me take it all [singing] in the game of love. Want to take it all in the game of fun. Young, dumb, [music and singing] broke high school kid. Young, dumb, broke [singing] high school kids. >> So if by the time the bar closes [music] and you feel like falling down, [singing] I'll carry you home tonight. Hello class of 2026. I wanted to tell you guys life will not always be easy. There will be setbacks, disappointments, and moments [music] that test your confidence and your character. But resilience is what matters. [music] Your ability to rise, to adapt, and to keep moving forward when life gets hard will take you farther than talent ever could. Strength is not found in never struggling. It is found in refusing to

We are proud of all of you in the class of 2026, and we wish you all the best as you pursue your life in the future. >> [music] >> Where'd all the time go? It's starting to fly. See how the hands go waving goodbye. Do you know I get so forgetful >> [music] >> when I look in your eyes? Now she's walking backwards and I'm stuck in the shadow blocking the shade. There ain't no way to sweep up the

mess we made. She gets dressed up like a pillow, so she's always in Flowers for the sick and dead. She's on the go. Way too fast and way too slow, she'll turn the stars. In hospitals and funeral homes, and when the fire dies somebody sighs and it's not in the sky anymore. There's nothing to keep you from falling in love. It starts at the bottom, it comes from above. Like pieces of a puzzle, like a hand in a glove. She gets dressed up like a pillow, so she's always in bed. Flowers for the sick and dead. She's on the go. Way too fast and way too slow to turn the storm. In hospitals and war zones, and when the tide rises, somebody sinks and is gone in the blink of an eye. Somebody sinks and

is gone in THE [music] BLINK OF AN >> MHM. >> [music] [music] >> MHM. >> [music] [music] >> GOOD AFTERNOON. >> [cheering] >> Ladies and gentlemen, please stand and remove your hats for the presentation of colors. Oh, say [singing] does [music] that star-spangled banner yet wave >> [singing] >> o'er the land of the free and the >> [singing] >> home of the brave? You may be seated. >> [cheering] >> Good afternoon, graduates, family, friends, and faculty. My name is Caleb Zenthoyil, this year's student body president. Today, I have the high honor and privilege of welcoming and introducing this year's graduating class. The class of 2026 has worked hard to adapt and grow in a changing world and school.

In a changing school district, the graduates today have worked hard to not let a changing environment affect their ways of learning and living. As we sit here today in the cap and the gown, it's not only about the graduation, but the journey you will soon be face-to-face with. For some of us, it might be to earn a higher education. For some of us, it'll be to serve our country. >> [cheering] >> And the rest may leave today not doing either. And that's okay. During our ceremony, we have the high privilege high privilege and honor to listen to some of our graduates. As you look into the audience, you'll see the good support system you have here today. Today, as you walk onto the stage and look into the crowd, take a moment to appreciate the

people who helped you who helped you come here, who came here to see your milestone, your achievement, and to you see you step onto your next journey. After you walked the four or three years of hard work, take time to thank those who came to see you. Rather it be relatives, friends, or even staff, it's still important to show appreciation. Now, message for our graduating class. Tomorrow's future is built on today's preparation and actions. And there will be a time in your life where you'll have to look on past decisions and be proud of them, and look on past mistakes and learn from them. Life can be heavy if you try to carry it all at once. Trust me, I would know. But, stepping into adulthood, the best part of your life, is that the

next years of your life will be about catch and release. Catch what brings you happiness and what you hold dear, and release everything else. And as you step into that journey, be sure not to lose a part of yourself, but be open to grow, change, and develop into the best person you can be. Because now, only you decide what your life has time and room for. So, class of 2026, be proud of today to a better tomorrow. Congratulations, class of 2026. Let's finish what we started. >> [cheering] [applause] >> Thank you. >> [cheering] [screaming] >> At this time, please welcome Aisha Usmani who will deliver our first graduate address. >> [cheering] >> Good afternoon staff and faculty, friends and family members of my fellow graduates, and most importantly, class of 2026. >> [cheering] [applause] >>

My name is Aisha Usmani and it's an honor to speak at our graduation today. Graduation is often described as an ending, but it's also a beginning. Today, we close one chapter of our lives and step forward into something new. It's a moment to reflect on the memories, challenges, and growth that have brought us here. High school wasn't just about the classes, tests, or assignments. It was about discovering who we are. It was the quiet mornings when we didn't feel ready, the late nights we stayed up laughing with friends, and the moments that tested us in ways we didn't expect. Some of our most important lessons didn't come from textbooks, but from the people around us. The teachers and parents who encouraged us, the friends who supported us, and the classmates who inspired us. These moments

shaped us and taught us patience, resilience, and empathy. We learned that growth doesn't happen without challenges. There were times when things felt impossible or uncertain, but we made it through. And in doing so, we became people who keep moving forward, who have learned not just academically, but personally. And it wasn't just the challenges, it was the victories, too. The celebrations, the laughter, and the memories that will stay with us. High school wasn't just a place we went to, it was where we worked hard, laughed, and learned how to be ourselves. As we leave today, let's carry these lessons with us. Let's hold on Let's hold on to the courage, kindness, and curiosity that got us here. Let's be brave enough to make mistakes, bold enough to chase what matters to us, and generous enough to

lift other along Lift others along the way. Class of 2026, this is our moment. Sorry. Class of 2026, this is our moment. We have worked for it, grown into it, and and now it's our steps And now it's our steps forward into what comes next. Congratulations to each and every one of us. We did it. >> [cheering] >> Thank you, Aisha. 023a moment that will stay with you for years. You will remember where you were, who sat beside you, and what it took to get you here. Commencement is more than a ceremony. It marks the close of one chapter and the responsibility that be that becomes with beginning the next. This afternoon, you are surrounded by the people who have been part of that journey. Your family, friends, teachers, and classmates, all here because they believe in you and are proud of what you have accomplished. So, take a moment, look around, recognize what this day represents. The chapter ahead will bring challenge, change, and uncertainty, but you are ready for them. During your time here,

you have learned how to think critically, solve problems, lead, work with others, and take ownership of your learning. Those skills will matter long after today. As you move forward, carry and carry your scorpion values with you. Service, thoughtfulness, integrity, never giving up, and getting involved. Be willing to take risks. Do not let fear of failure keep you from moving forward because growth often comes through the hard parts. You will not own always have every answer and you will not always see the full road ahead. But still keep moving. The roadblocks you face in life do not get to decide who you become. They can shape you, strengthen you, and clarify what matters most. But they do not get to take the wheel. You do. You decide how to respond. You decide whether hardship will stop

you or project you forward. You decide what the next journey in your life will be. So my advice to you is captured in one of my favorite songs by Zac Brown Band. Don't be a passenger on your own ride. Remember, you can always drive. No need to let the road decide where you're going in this life. Your heart will leave you lead you somewhere real. But you got to take the wheel. So don't sit back and let life happen to you. Be present. Be intentional. Trust your values, trust your purpose, and when the road in front of you feels uncertain, remember take the wheel. You got this. After all, you're Desert Edge Scorpions. >> [cheering] [applause] >> And I'm going to send you out with a joke. I've been back and forth with this joke

all day. My family thinks it stinks. But here it goes. What did the principal say to the graduating class? You have class, but not after today. Ba dum bum. Congratulations, class of 2026. >> [applause and cheering] >> Please welcome to the stage our final student speaker, Maya Laureano. >> [cheering] >> Good afternoon, everyone. Friends, family, faculty, and most importantly, the graduating class of 2026. >> [cheering] >> Today is the day we have imagined for 4 years. How exciting. My name is Maya Lariano. For so long, our lives have been defined by titles. An athlete, in choir or band, a leader in student government, maybe even the quiet one, the smart one, or the one who always had it all figured out. These titles followed us everywhere, telling people who we are before we ever spoke.

But high school is a momentary phase, and for most, those rules are central to our identity. But what happens when the season ends, the curtain falls, and the title finally fades? We ask ourselves, who am I Who am I now? Who am I without a label? These past 4 years have been a time of self-discovery, and it is easy to attach yourself to a Uh it's easy to attach your identity to a label. But titles are temporary. Your character, how you make people feel, how you show up, how you express your care, that endures. It is scary to feel like you had it all figured out just to be back at square one. But we were never meant to be the things we did. Change strips away what we thought defined us so we can

see what's underneath. It forces us to meet ourselves, not the label, the position, or reputation, but the person still growing, still learning, and still becoming. Graduation isn't just a time of celebration of what we've done. It's an invitation to reflect on who we are when everything around us changes. Yes, you are an athlete, a musician, an artist, a son or daughter, but more deeply, you are thoughtful, resilient, compassionate, driven, and creative. The late nights when no one was watching, the moment you chose kindness, the times you got back up after falling apart, that is who you really are. Today marks the end of high school, but the beginning of becoming. You get to ask yourself who you want to be. Embrace the uncertainty. Let it change you. Let it scare you because it will grow

you. Don't let fear make decisions for you. Don't let other people's opinions dictate your goals. Live for yourself. Class of 2026, we are not one thing. We are not defined by our trophies or transcripts. We are full of contrast, complexity, and layers. Don't let the years ahead of you shape you, reveal you, and not by achievements, but by authenticity. And finally, I would like to dedicate this moment to my parents. Like many of you, I have been surrounded by love, support, and kindness. But more specifically, I would like to recognize my mom. She has been the greatest example of unconditional love and unwavering devotion to her four children. She gave me my first words, my name, and my strength. Thank you for instilling the idea that I can do whatever I wanted to do and

be whoever I wanted to be. Thank you for your sacrifices to ensure that I have all the opportunities you never did. You are my best friend and my biggest inspiration. I am blessed to reflect the astonishing person you are. I am so proud to be your daughter and I hope to continue to to make you proud in everything I do. I love you, Mom. >> [cheering] [applause] >> Thank you, Desert Edge teachers and staff, for holding us up these last 4 years. Your efforts will always be appreciated. 2026 graduates, as we are joined together for the last time in cap and gown, how lucky are we? Thank you for a wonderful high school experience. Godspeed. >> [cheering] [applause] >> Mr. Eastless, would you please join me at the podium? Oh, yeah. I forgot. May I

please have Caleb Santoyo join me here at the podium. >> [cheering] >> Principal Hand, please approach center stage. Ladies and gentlemen, friends and families, with the power vested in me by the Arizona Department of Education and with the authority granted me by Governing Board President Kristen Acton, members Corby Naylor, Sarah Silk, and with the assistance from Desert Edge High School Student Body President Caleb Daniel Santoyo, >> [cheering] >> I, Superintendent Marcos Antonio Islas, certify that on this 14th day of May in the year 2026, the students present have met the requirements to earn a diploma from the unstoppable Desert Edge High School. >> [cheering] [applause] >> Principal Gretchen Hand, let the records forever reflect this proclamation. Congratulations. Congratulations. >> [cheering] >> Thank you. Thank you. >> Thank you, Mr. Eastless. Today, our students' names will

be read by our incredible Desert Edge faculty members, Ms. Heidi Benkey >> [cheering] >> and Mr. Carlos Zalaya. >> [cheering] >> To our guests, we ask that during the reading of your student names, you are considerate of all students so that each parent can hear their child's name.
