And on the next item, approval of the retention site for new teachers. >> Mr. President, members of the board, implementing a recruitment stipen policy with title 2 funds is crucial to attracting appropriately certified educators in critical areas. By offering stipens, schools can promote diversity and mitigate turnover. This strategic allocation aligns with federal grants priorities and ensures the effective use of resources to recruit top talent in the education sector. The recruitment stipen policy was attached. Teachers eligible for the stipen are Alvis Kadis, Elizabeth Blanchard, and Richard

004Ruon. There is no board action necessary. is a study session item only and I asked Miss Cotay to give a quick update of of uh of this a little bit more about the budget source and the amount miss the funds would be coming from title two also known as improving teacher quality so one of the allowable use of the grant is to provide recruitment siphons for hard to fill um teaching positions any questions or comments on that item and go to the next The extra payday position resignation of Scott M. >> Mr. President, members of the board, Scott Moran, an assistant football coach, has resigned his position from coaching. This is a study session item only, but this is a positive. Now we have at least uh three uh support coaches for girls and we have at least three for the boys. So we have a good good amount for each team. >> Okay. Any

006question or comment on that? >> I have one question. >> Okay. >> Um in Brian Bissell's letter he states that he wants to be a volunteer but in the agenda it says assistant football. So is he going to be volunteering or is he we are we going to pay him for the one game? Um, I'll have this balance talk about that some >> I forgot that's my type. I forgot to add volunteer. >> Okay. I just I just wanted to make sure >> it's a type one. >> Yeah, I was kind of wondering about that as well. And then um if Scott was still going to receive some statement for the coaching, >> Mr. President, Mr. Rodriguez, but Mr. Moore's going to be paid out. It's one game left. He's going to be paid out

007what he's what he's >> any other questions on this and go to the next item. The minimum wage increase hourly decrease for [snorts] interpreting services. >> Mr. President, members of the board, on January 1st, 2026, the Arizona minimum wage will increase to 1515 per hour. The only hourly wage at office schools will need to increase is the hourly rate for interpreting. The district's financial consultant, Mr. Mr. Moore has recommended $17 per hour for before or after school interpreting for parent meetings such as IG, ME discipline and parent teacher conferences. There is no board action necessary. This is a study session item only, Mr. President. >> Okay. Any questions regarding that? The next one which is approval of disposal of broken or obsolete technology. >> Mr. President uh members of the board George Simon IT manager

008has collected and palletized 173 technology items for disposal. The list of the items and pictures of the pallets for disposal recycling are attached per statute ARS 15-341G and 15-342 AACR72131 and 2 CFR 2000 313. school district must complete a request for authorization to dispose of district property form and submit to governing board to approve it prior to disposal trade in sale and transfer. There is no board action necessary. This is a study session item only and Mr. Simon is being proactive and just trying to keep our supply rooms as clean and as possible. So this is a positive >> there's a picture of >> also in talking with Mr. Yon and and and our facilities team uh we also want to be proactive as far as when we have a fire marshal inspections as Chief

009Tibbit has also shared with us to try and have some of the rooms as clean as possible when we have an unannounced fire marshall coming do inspection. Any questions on this item? We'll go to the next one. Consideration and direction of as bylaw change proposal. >> Mr. President, members of the board, the governing board will review and discuss the proposed bylaw bylaw amendments submitted by the Arizona School Boards Association Governance Committee. This is a single vote encompassing multiple updates. All changes are shown in red for deletions in blue for new wording. The proposal requires approval by twothirds of ASBA member boards in order to take effect. There you have the address where where some information is located following the discussion. I believe on Wednesday the board will vote to give direction to his board secretary

010Angelina Van to vote in the matter the board has approved. There is no board action necessary but I just wanted to highlight a few items for you and these are in the attachments. Um, this here is from uh, dear ASBA members and I believe this two-page letter is from the uh, ASBA board of directors. And just some of the highlights here, it says um while many of the proposed changes improve clarity and consistency, several substantive revisions are on the ballot, including eligibility for office, clarifying who may hold the elected office within ASBA, meeting protocols, defining who may address the body with permission of the chair, representation, updating rules for county co-directors based on census data, and verify national appointments, executive oversight, requiring full board ratification of the executive director's contract within a set time frame.

011Committees and leadership defining standing committees, chairs, duties and appointment authority. Emergency and vacancy procedures outlining actions during emergencies and procedures for vacancies and removals. Voting and quorum authorizing electronic voting, increasing quorum requirements and establishing time frames for board actions. Caucus alignment also some other highlights from from the attachments. Um most important questions. Uh this there's a few items I want to share. um counties additional co-directors based on census data. Why is ratification of the executive director's contract included? It ensures full board oversight. Entire board of the proposed change requires that the entire board ratify the executive [snorts] director's contract within a set time frame adding a layer of accountability and transparency. Um the updates clarify how the board should act during emergencies, how vacancies are handled, and the process for removal from office. This provides

012stability and guidance so decisions aren't made in the moment without direction. Uh some other information here um from some of the attachments. The voting league is being sent to each member district board. U electronic voting opens September 18th and will close at 5:00 p.m. on December 16th regarding ASB buy changes. And so um once again the board's electronic board must be received later than 5 p.m. on Tuesday, December 16th. But this just talks about the uh the bylaws you know as you see in the attachment. Article four membership um section two voting powers of the membership. Uh dues of the membership. Article five officers and board of directors and executive committee officers and terms of office. Section two board of directors. one rep from each county. Counties with more than 500,000 people will have one

013additional rep, co-irectors, such as a case I believe in Puma County. Um, section three, qualification. Section five, nominations and elections. Section six, selection of the executive director. Section seven, duties of officers, board of directors and executive committee. Section section 8, executive committee. Section 9, vacancies and removal from office. Article six, meetings and voting membership meetings. Section one, section two meetings of the board of directors and executive committee. Um section three, annual delegate assembly, article 7, committees and caucuses. Section two, caucuses. Section one, nominating committee. And so that's pretty much summary. And I believe uh you guys will have to eventually vote. And that's what ASBA the governance committee has set forward. >> Okay. You said that >> by the 16th I believe. >> Any question or comment on that? >> Is this just is it

014just an agenda item that we we're voting like in the meeting? >> Basically by the December meeting, we have to vote as a board if we support this change. >> Okay. And then one whoever we have is our representative. >> And I can print or or email the bylaws. It's like 12 or 13 pages, but I can print it if anybody needs it. So look at an actual physical copy. [snorts] >> And this is the the login and password that I have to where it it's very just a yes or no. and then the date and then I'm doing it on behalf of the board and then I have to submit. So yes or no and it's the date of the meeting and then >> and this is one where the board also votes on

015who that person is that's the represent >> Well, she just said it would be her. >> Yeah, I'm me. >> Okay. >> Yeah. Unless you one of you guys want to log in, but I have a ASPA login. So, >> okay. >> Are there any further questions on that? And next item up is the first reading of governing board policies 938 through 950. >> Mr. present under the board section E revisions are due to a reorganization that lines similar policy content and maintains comprehensive information for effective board governance and district operations. The policy documents listed above have been removed added due to recontification merged with policy documents containing similar topics or revised. See discussions below for specific information regarding each document. Documents [clears throat] not listed in comparison documents from section 8 did not change.

016The clean copy document on the policy advisory communication provides the revised section in its entirety. Section F includes minor revisions. See discussions below for specific information regarding each document. So I'll just do this how we've done it in the past. I'll just go through each uh policy advisory and state deleted then the policy. Okay. So I'll start with um policy advisory number uh number 937 I believe right? 938 >> 938 deleted policy. So just some of the highlights. >> Anybody have any questions or comments on those items? >>

020Not the next item up is the AO schools online academy report. >> Mr. [snorts] President, members of the board, we had the newest member of our administrative uh leadership team Williams DM students report on the school's online academy. We just thought it'd be a good idea for her to share some information. And uh there is no board action necessary. This is a reportational item only. So Miss would like to uh call on Miss Williams and she will give you an online academy report update. Miss Williams. >> Good evening everybody. Um when we started the new academic year, we ran into a couple of hiccups when we were trying to establish the protocols for operating in the online space and the students that are a part of it and what they're expected to do, how and

021when. And so we had to go back to the Arizona revised statute to see what that said because there is a statute for online education, online program. So, we had to go back to that statute to see what we were in compliance with and what were some of the things that we needed to tweak and to fix in order to make sure that we're in compliance with what the the Arizona statute say with regard to online education or online spaces for online schools. So, um in doing that I realized that we do not have anything in writing. We did not have anything formal to say that this is how our online space operates and these are the regulations that you need to abide by and this is how you are to operate in the online

022space. So that's where this document came from because we didn't have something in writing. So based on what the statute says. So based on what the statute says, as well as going through different going online to find what other schools in Arizona that do have online schools, whether it is that it's all virtual and self-paced or it is that there are situations where it's teacher pace with students who are virtual to see how they have set up their systems, what are the kind of regulations they have, and how those regulations fit into what the Arizona statutes for online um programs have. And this that's what I used to help us to create the um the student parent handbook for the online space because there are certain we ran into queries about oh taking attendance and

023why does this why is this done and why is this not done and and so on. And so we needed a document that laid it out clearly so that everybody knows what the expectations are, how we are going to regulate attendance, completion of courses, um putting information on the transcripts, participation in sporting activities, graduation and all the things that come with it. So one of the major things was the attendance because prior to this the students had to log in in the morning and they had to send an email to the teacher that was in charge to say I'm working on this class or I'm working on that class and there was always this back and forth communication and if they did not log in they would be considered absent or if they log in

024late they'll be considered party. But when we check the statutes, you cannot mark them absent or tired in the online space because the idea is that they can log in at any time within the 24hour day and work for the number of hours that they're required to work. So there is no mandatory logging in at 8:15 in the morning. They if you log in at 400 pm and you do your hours, it's still within the 24hour day. So we so we technically based on the statute, you cannot acrew absences or charities because of in the online space. So we had to make that adjustment based on the number of hours that they would they would use for the year. Then we broke it down to the number of hours per day, number of hours per

025week. So based on how our schedule is set up, we have a 180 day school year. So when we break it down for the number of hours that each student should work for the year, it works out to 5 hours a day, which is 25 hours for the week. So it's any five hours in a 24hour day. And it can be from Sunday to Saturday, any of those days that you can make your 25 hours. So in discussing the in discussing the change with Miss Garcia because she is the one that mostly um interacts with the students in the online space. We decided that how we would calculate attendance would be in a week of um the prior week a prior week basis. So on Monday morning we check the attendance for the week that

026has passed. So for Sunday to Saturday of the week that passed, we check the attendance to based on the number of hours that they have completed because the minimum number of hours is 25. They can do more than 25 if they so choose because with the online space being self-paced, you work as fast or as slow as you choose to work, but you must meet the 25 hours for the week. So on Monday morning, we print out the attendants for the prior week and that's how they are counted as present based on the number of hours that they do. Miss Garcia has been sending emails since we started the process letting them know that there are going to be changes that they need to now use a school issue Chromebook because then it's easier for

027us to monitor particularly academic integrity the type of work that they're doing preventing them from being on sites that they should not be on because Mr. Simon has um configured the the system in such a way that it prevents them from doing certain things particularly when they are in the egenuity um application and so on. We also ex talked about what is expected for the tutoring kind of um situation. Egeneuity has this in builtin tutor chat with a tutor. So you can get a live person to talk with. You can go through any activities or topics that you're finding difficult. There is a live person there to help walk you through what the issue is with that particular topic or that particular activity. So that is also a feature that students have access to. So

028if they are having difficulty with a particular topic, [snorts] then there is someone there that will help them. Um, we also had to remind our students that if they are from the special education department or they have a 504, those accommodations, those services are still provided through eenuity. We can configure it to make sure that if there for their IEPs that the different accommodations for activities and so on are a part of the their their course material. um they have direct contact with their case manager whether in in this case since it's high school is Mr. Delara and he is monitoring some of the students who are online and he's assisting them as they go along. So we needed to remind them of that. We also made sure that we've laid out all the information

029that's necessary for graduation because our online space mainly focuses on high school. We do not at the moment we do not have anyone below high school in fully online. So we have the information set out for graduation. What are the requirements? How many credits they need to graduate and we have also made it clear that you have to meet these requirements at least the Monday before the graduation um exercise or else they cannot participate in in the graduation exercise. Um, state assessments are still mandatory. So, as it gets closer to state assessments, Dr. Berjo will send out emails to remind the students who are going to be assessed that they should turn up for the assessment. So, those are the ninth graders who are doing ACT as file and the 11th graders who are doing

030ACT. She will send out the emails with the dates and where they should meet in order for them to participate in the state assessment. And participating in the state assessment is a requirement by the AR Arizona that they have to um participate in the state testings. Um the online space is dependent on the student. So if they choose to change a class, it has to be based on what they have already completed and what it is that they still need to complete in order for them to make the um the number of credits for graduation. They they they cannot just change the course willy-nilly as they feel. It has to be based on what they c they have completed. if that course has been documented and if it is or if it's a course that

031they know that they no longer need and so they need to change it so that they can take a course that they need. If they no longer wish to be a part of the program, there is a set time frame in which they need to ask to be taken off. However, in the same in the same way that if a student has not attended school for 10 days, they are automatically unenrolled from the school. The same thing applies for the online space. If you have not logged in for 10 days to do any of your work, then you're automatically unenrolled by the on the 11th day. And if they wish to be reenrolled, they will then have to their parents will have to come in, have them reenrolled, and they will have to meet with

032the principal in order to make a plan going forward. Because there needs to be something addressing why it is they were not logging on and why it is that they ended up becoming unenrolled. So their reenrollment is based on the parent coming in and having that discussion with the principal. It's not just the parent saying, "Oh, I want to reenroll." And the process goes um the child find and all of the different aspects of child find still apply to the students who are online. So if a parent or someone knows of a child that is in need and needs to receive services whether from the special education section or anything, Child Find is there to assist. So all the information that someone would need to um be able to recommend or bring attention to somebody

033who is in need. That information is also a part of our um document because it's all important and we we the the whole point of the online space is to give all all children an opportunity to to get an education in the best environment that works for them. So if there is a child that is struggling and they need the assistance, the child find is always there. The numbers are there that they can call in order to get that the information that they need and recommend what they need to recommend. We also have our discrimination policy that we don't discriminate and um for any basis and we also have students at risk or harm. So students who may be experiencing homelessness or anything like that, there is information that um or abuse of any kind,

034the there's information there that people can use in order to get those children the assistance that they need. Um procedures and conduct. Now this is specific to how we operate on the online space. What communication would look like between the students and the teacher that is involved along with the parents. Um the fact that the we while you are in an online space your parents still need to be a part of the process in the same way that they would be a part of the process if you were here in person. So when emails are sent, we are we are expecting that the parents will respond to the emails. They will respond to the phone calls because there's a reason why you are virtual. Sometimes it's because being in person just does not work. But

035you still have to be a part of the process. So keep track of the child's attendance. respond to the emails that are sent about attendance or about um incomplete courses or courses that they're in danger of failing or not passing. We need to have the same type of communication that we would have if that child was face to face because being online does not mean that they're on their own. They still require support from the parents or the guardian. And so that person has to be as actively involved as possible. If there is a problem that the parent or the child feels that the online the teachers who are operating the online space has done something that they are offended by or accused of then there is a process to go through where you can

036go what we call the due rights process. So if there is an accusation of something of breaching some kind of regulation or rule from the teacher standpoint, then there is a process that the parent can go through to have that addressed and also to ensure that the correct um actions are taken in a timely as as timely manner as possible. So all of that information is there and what they should do. We also talk about the communication and the fact that um the contents of emails and phone calls that will be um exchanged there has to be a level of respect and um and humanity attached to those emails. So disrespectful, threatening or aggressive emails or conversations are not are not um something that we're going to access as it is right now. If students

037send an email and certain words or terms are used, those emails are planned. It's the same thing that would happen with this in this situation. If certain language is used within an email towards a teacher or anybody um in the school space, that email is going to be flagged automatically. And depending on the severity of the information in the email, then it may require legal action or some kind of um law enforcement action for that. But we have to en we have to highlight that there has to be a certain level of respect that is given whether that conversation is face to face or online. Being online does not give you the leeway to do and say what you want. There are consequences to things that are said. There are consequences to certain types of

038behavior. And so they have to remember that if this information cannot be posted somewhere publicly for everyone to see, then maybe it shouldn't be information you're putting in an email to send to someone for them to read it. Particularly if that's someone that has to interact with you in an academic space. Um, Edgenuity has an AI detection software and so for activities, particularly the ones that require some kind of creativity, whether it's a story or they're writing a lab or something like that, the AI soft detection software is there to ensure that this information was not taken from from from GPG or somewhere else. and then posted in the space as their own work. Um, if a student is caught, once you do the AI detection, it will tell you what percentage of the work

039is AI and what percentage. So, you can tell whether the student actually did work or they just copied and pasted something from somewhere. So if a student has been flagged for academic integrity, meaning that they have been using AI to do the work and not putting in the time to make sure that they've done it themselves, then this is something that the administration will take very seriously. Their their account might be blocked until um there's a meeting with the parents to discuss um moving forward because maybe the online space is not for you. But we but at the same time it's not the f the first offense is not the offense that will block your account. If you have been warned, if you have been top spoken to about the use of AI for your

040academic work and you keep doing it, then that is where we're going to have the problem and you may have to come in and have a meeting in order to discuss what would happen. Because the idea is that even though you are online, the work has the work should still be your own in the same way that you are in a classroom and you will have to sit and work through that math problem on your own or you're going to have to sit and come up with that story on your own. is the same process that we are expecting you to go through the using AI or any online source as a way of doing the activity and posting all of that all of the information that you found online without crediting the source for

041where you got that information is stealing someone else's work and so that is also plagiarism along with you not having the integrity to actually do the work on your own. So that's important that they need to understand that they need to do as much of the work on their own as possible. Um bullying is an issue whether it's cyber bullying or in person and in this case where we will have cyber bullying or harassing we have as you tolerance to that and even in our online space we are not going to have or put up with any kind of cyber bullying or harassment whether that is another online student or it's the teacher that they are working with. So we have our policy in place to let them know about what is cy what is

042bullying, what is cyber bullying and what are the repercussions if someone is found to be guilty of committing cyber bullying or harassment of any individual whether another student or the teacher. and cheat cheating, [clears throat] lying, and plagiarism go along with academic integrity because it's about making sure that the work is authentically yours. We're not saying you cannot get help from online sources, but give credit to the sources that you got your help from. Do not make it appear as if you came up with all of this information on your own. If you read it somewhere, if you watched a video, if you read an article, tell us where you got it from. We're not you're not going to be punished for saying, "Well, I read this somewhere and so I'm using the information." Where

043it becomes a problem is when you're not telling us where you're getting the information from. There isn't in in acade in in the academic space, there's nothing that is new. It has been done by many people over time. So we know you got it from somewhere. Just tell us where you got it from. That's all. So it goes back to the academic integrity. make sure that to make sure that they are actually doing the work and we explain what it what um the different ways you can plagiarize knowingly or unknowingly and what cheating means and also how it is that we will deal with plagiarism and the like. So we have a table that explains what are the penalties for the different what we call academic misconduct and what could be the consequences for that.

044Um if they have the right to appeal any kind of consequences that they have they have been given and there is um there are steps that they can go through in order to go through the appeal process and have um their grievance looked at misconduct um for discipline records. We still going to keep discipline records because even though you are online, you are still registered as a student in Ala Unified School. So we are still going to have discipline records if we need to have them because being online does not mean that you're in a separate institution. You're still a part of our school. So your discipline records will still be there and it will be populated as needed. And this the grievance process is for the um academic for the um misconduct appeals and

045so on what they can how they can go through it and what we can um they can expect. Um if the pro if the issue that they're having is between the teacher and the student or student and student then we're hoping that an informal process of trying to work out the issue would be better because it's it's less taxing to have it done for them to work it out among themselves than having to go through a formal process. But if they go through the informal process and it's still not um solving the issue then there is a formal process that they can go through that um may garner the result that they wish. So we have that and at the end of it all there is the information about furpa and their rights and what

046they what fura does and what it is that it protects. So all of this is just information that the parents and the students will have. It is their handbook. It is what they will use as their guide for the duration of being in the online space. um at the moment in and this is something that came up today when because every Monday I'm meeting with M Garcia for us to print our attendance and so on and um she was highlighting the fact that there are a number of students that work on the weekend and because they work on the weekend they expect the teachers to be available to answer questions and unlock lock this and unlock that. And we're looking at number one, this might become a problem because the teachers really are not available

04724 hours even though the online space allows you to work in any 24hour for any 24 hours. The teachers are not available 24 hours. At 11 p.m. most of us are in bed. So um we have in speaking about it I reached out to our contact at Tucson Unifi because she has they have an online space and she explained that well they just have set guidelines that the teachers are available Monday to Friday between this time and this time and any queries that are sent outside of that time will be addressed the morning of the first school And we just have to they just have to abide by that. Yes, the the the online program allows you to work but it's not that's not the teachers working schedule. >> So ingenuity is our teachers. >>

048Ingenuity is our teachers. Our teachers >> for the online space is what we do. >> But are they our teachers? I mean, >> but the two we have one of our teachers monitors, >> right? Miss Garcia, >> right? But the tutoring, >> she doesn't grade the grade the assignments. She does that, right? >> Yeah. >> And so all all she does is give them direction. >> Yeah. >> Sometimes depending on what it is, she might have to walk them through a particular process. She may have to un They may do a quiz and they didn't do so well on it and they want retakes and she has to add retakes to allow them to do it over to get a better grade, things like that. But she's not actively grading. >> Would it be all

049right if I asked questions about it all if I asked some questions about ingenuity right now? >> Yes. >> Hopefully I can answer that. So, I've had concerns about ingenuity for a long, long time, right? >> Because I've seen kids do three semesters of work in one semester of high school, right? >> And so that that's concerned me because are our kids just going through the motions but not getting an education? And that's my concern about ingenuity, right? I mean, I I I I'm just saying that. Okay. >> All right. >> The second thing you say that that these kids have to be tested. >> If they score poorly, that reflect on the district or does it reflect on Ingenuity? >> It reflects on the >> district. >> On the district. >> So, do we

050track that at all? Do we track how those kids on Ingenuity are doing? Are are on their test scores compared to kids that that go to school? I need >> re uh according to research those who are fully online does not necessarily do well in like overall >> but I I I want to know >> I can >> how how it affects us right >> you can track that you can track that but how we not yet like we can pull their scores from before and compare it there's a few kids that's really doing well but not everyone this is not for everyone and that's why like what Miss Williams have said um they're given an opportunity to be fully online if they're not doing well I really want to meet with them in fact

051we've met with a few a few and then the question of I don't think this is the right program for your child >> so I don't get along unless it's okay and so can I just not take her class and do her class on ingenuity It depends on the situation. So there are there are situations in fact one came up um this year just very recently where there's what we call um personality clash >> and then at some point um the parents the family requested if the child can take the course online and we have to say yes. And to answer your concern the the concern you mentioned earlier I'm concerned with that too and we have seen that in the past and because of that we we made sure that that will not happen.

052So if it's a credit recovery then yes the kids will be given a chance to take a pre-EST because they have taken the course before they failed it. But if it is your first time taking the course, you have to go through that whole process. There is no shortcut. And I think that's what happened in the past. That was during COVID time. We were new, I guess, in in yeah, in using a genuity as a course, [snorts] not just for credit recovery, but we've learned that from before from I think two years ago that this is not okay. like what can why are they finishing it already then we found out that they were taking a pretest when they're not supposed to. So that's been taken out the kids that are taking the course for

053the first time there [clears throat] for them. they they go through the course one lesson one unit at a time and that's why they need at least 5 hours a day to make sure that they complete this because if they don't do it I don't know how they will complete it >> and we answer to that >> we have some students who work online that are very diligent with what they do online and we have some students that are doing 29 9:30 hours for the week because they are doing more than the five hours and some some are doing eight hours for the day and it depends on the day but some have done a maximum of eight or more hours for the day. Some kids have been diligently doing 30 hours for the week.

054So it just a lot of the work online depends on the child and the support that they have at home and the monitoring that they have at home. We have had situations where students have logged in to education and they have not opened one activity. they have not opened one lesson and they're just they are logged in and it shows that they're in but they haven't done anything and they could they can be on it for an hour and the parents assume that because they are logged in to edge they're working and they haven't done anything. So it depends on the type of student. It depends on the kind of support and the monitoring that the parents and the guardians do to ensure that they're actively working because there are students who will log in

055and go back to sleep and they're logged in for two hours but they haven't done one activity. >> But we don't have a lot of kids, right? >> No, we don't online. >> Yeah, we don't have a lot that are fully online. So, it's easier to monitor them in that way. And Mr. Garcia is very diligent with sending emails to the parents to say, "Hey, they haven't met the hours for this week. This is me." And she has sent a screenshot. These are your hours for last week. You're not making the hours or I haven't seen you lock in two days. What is going on? Is there a problem? Do you need a new Chromebook? Things like that. So miss because it's not a large number, it's easier to keep track of who is working,

056who is not, sending out the emails to let the parents know that we haven't seen them working or they're not meeting their hours, things like that. So that we can keep keep on top of the number that we have, but it's not a large number. So it's easier to monitor that >> just on kids to come out of our school district some least basic form of education. I don't want to just have gone through the motions. >> Yeah. >> Got a diploma and now they don't know the difference between the metric system and >> Imperial >> and the imperial system. Right. I I want them to know I want to have at least some education they leave when they leave our district. Right. >> Yeah. >> And my experience in the past as a football

057coach with my boys that were on Ingenuity, they were getting monstrous amount of work done in a very very short period of time. Right. had kid graduate his junior year got thrown an in school suspension at Christmas his sophomore year and by the time he reached his freshman his first year of junior he had already done the second semester of his of his sophomore year and all of his junior year >> in one semester on ingenuity right that's the concerns that I have you know and so not saying the kid wouldn't spark I say Miss Garcia didn't push him in is school suspension, but I'm just saying he got three semesters back. I told Carol, "Why put El put Carol I put Emma through four years of high school? Just have her get on ingenuity?

058She can graduate after her freshman year and move on to college and she wouldn't do very good." So that's that was my concern. >> We have tweaked it to ensure that they can't do that anymore. particularly if it's not very once it's a once it's the first time doing the course you have to go through unit by unit each activity watch all the videos everything you can't skip through anything else so they have to sit there and actually go through >> I think you and Miss Chrissy are fantastic so I don't have any fears that you're not going to run the program well >> thank you >> I still have a few questions do the students that are doing the computer online stuff, do they get the same holiday breaks that the student so they

059don't have any flexibility in that if all work for them to work a different week? >> They um as far as I know, not right now because the way that we set eenuity up is that it goes with our district calendar. So all the breaks, the holiday, the winter break, fall break, all those things, there are no assigned activities for them. But it does not prevent them from going in and doing work. They can log in as often as they want and work for as long as they want. If they are not if for whatever reason they have to be away, they can work wherever they are. >> Okay? So they it doesn't limit them to just what our calendar says. They if they go on vacation and they go to a different country once

060they have internet connection they can log in and work >> the helpers need something unlocked there. Well, that's >> your answer [laughter] when she comes back. Great. >> Ties into my second question though, which is since we have that flexibility for the students to be able to work on weekends, will there be a time when a student is working on weekend trying to hit their minimum hours, but they're locked out of the next assignment? they can't get in touch with the teacher that I'm on because it's and I can trust me I my program I get calls at 6:30 Sunday morning for >> the emails still come in Miss Garcia still gets the emails regardless um I get for for for her she may have a cut off time on on a particular day to

061say I'm not answering any emails after this time but that's her choice but she still will go through and she'll check She'll check her emails and respond as quickly as she >> Okay. Yeah. I'm just wondering if somebody's working on the weekend to hit their minimum hours and everything they're working on then is locked. They're not able to hit their minimum hours at that point. >> Um but they can still they send the email. Miss Garcia still goes through as best she can on the weekend. The other thing I'm thinking is we have a page that our regular student handbook where the students have to sign that they've received that. I'm wondering if we might want to >> Yeah, we can add here too. >> Yeah, we can we can add that to it. Um,

062one of the things that Mr. Garcia and I were talking about is um having a parent night for the online students. It can be a virtual parent night where they log in via Zoom or whatever, but it would give them the opportunity to ask question to Miss Garcia or myself to give the information that they need. Um, they can get the copies of this and sign it um digitally sign it or whatever and send it and email it back to us. So we can we can definitely add a page that would require the signature of the parent and the child. >> Excellent. >> Did anybody else have the question? >> I have a question. So while the school requires juniors to take the ASVAB, are we going to require the same thing from juniors that

063are doing online? >> We did that last year. >> Yes. >> Okay. >> Anything state based? any testing state they are required to take them. >> Well, as that is not state it's not state required. >> Yeah. Okay. >> Yeah. But we did last year we had them. >> Okay. >> I think this year we have >> five. Thank you very much. >> Thank you. Next item up is possible new. If not then I will make the motion. >> I will second I >> I motion carries. is here. >> Break
