al-Qaeda against the United States in 2001. On that morning, 19 terrorists hijacked four commercial airliners scheduled for travel from East Coast to California. American Airlines flight 111 Logan Airport Boston flew into the north tower of the World Trade Center complex in Manhattan at 8:46 a.m. United Airlines flight 175 Logan Airport Boston flew into the south tower of the World Trade Center complex at 9:03 a.m. Both 110 story skyscrapers collapsed within an hour and 41 minutes. American Airlines flight 77 Washington Dallas International Airport flew toward Washington DC and crashed into the Pentagon at 9:37 a.m. causing a partial collapse. United Airlines Flight 93 Newark International Airport also changed course towards Washington DC. It was believed that this flight was targeting the Capitol building or the White House. Flight 93 passengers revolted against the hijackers and the
aircraft crashed into a Stony Creek Township field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania at 10:03 a.m. Hence the very famous phrase for those flight 93 passengers roll to retake the plane. The attacks killed 2,977 people, making it the deadliest terror attack in history. A total of 343 firefighters lost their lives on this day. A total of 72 law enforcement officers lost their lives on this day. A total of eight on duty EMTs and paramedics lost their lives on this day. Three other EMTs not on duty lost their lives as well. Mr. President, members of the board, colleagues in attendance, and community members of Aaho Unified School District, I would like to ask if you can please join me at this time for a moment of reflection and remembrance for all those who lost their lives on September 11th,
0032000. Thank you, Mr. President, members of the board and those in attendance. Um, uh, the next thing I wanted to share is I did send everyone on the board a football game parking protocol. I wanted to make sure everyone got that uh um that email that I sent yesterday. Just as a reminder, please if you have any questions, please let me know. We're going to make the appropriate uh corrections. We're going to make sure our school safety team members are at the north softball gate to allow entrance for handicap parking, senior citizen parking, and for first emergency responders parking. I have directed Miss Dona to order five handicap parking signs that we will place on the fence to the football stadium. We will also be ordering appropriate signage to place on the fence at the
entrance to the football stadium for senior citizen parking. In addition, the red entry gates to the next to the district and school offices will be unlocked to allow for parking next to the rock wall. This will allow members of the community to enter the campus and walk onto the football field to football field stadium. Football stadium. Our campus security chief Tibbit will be extra vigilant in the security vehicle monitoring the campus. Our facilities team will also make sure to have more lights working so that the path to the stadium is clear and safe. We will make sure to send out a communication on school messenger on our own Facebook and in the Aaho confer News to all of our AUSD community before the game. And so that being said, it was a great start to
the 2526 school year with our Aaho high school graders winning the game against arrival event 28 to 24. So we will make those appropriate corrections to have the best possible accommodations for the next. Okay. And uh my final uh parts of the superintendent report, we have our our exceptional dibbles team of Miss Barees, kindergarten, and Miss Silvano, third grade teachers. They're going to present to you the Dibbles assessment. And so, uh here they are at this time, Miss Bare, and Miss Sando. I'll turn it over to you guys. >> So, good evening everyone. I am Jenny Barez. I am one of the mower coordinators and I also have here Miss Anna Sabano who is the new my new uh mower coordinator partner. So uh for this evening I will present to you the beginning of
the school year result for our dibbles assessment. So let's just have a little recap of what is dibbles. Bibbles is a literacy assessment collected by teachers interacting with students one-on-one. It is administered three times per year. So we have a beginning of the school year, middle of the school year and end of the school year. And lastly, um is to identify reading difficulty, monitor progress and inform instruction especially for struggling readers. [Music] Okay. So this school year we have two kindergarten classes. Um let us start with our mid my class and kindergarten class. So as you all can see here in our data we have 50% of the students are at well below benchmark. Um 30% of the students are at below benchmark. Um and then 20% of the students are at and above benchmark.
So with this data you can see that the um relevant strength of uh our students in kindergarten we have 50% are is phmic awareness and the area to focus is decoding which we have 90% of the students are struggling with. Now let us move on to Miss Iris's class. Um 80% 84% of the students are at well below benchmark. 11% are at below benchmark and we have 5% of the students are at and above benchmark. So for their relative strength we have phonmic uh awareness. Um 16% of the students are at benchmark and we have 95% of the students are at well below benchmark. Now for this presentation we identify the different um categories for spad um e students and our j students. So out of seven students spad students six of them are well
below and one is at below benchmark. For our e students seven of them are at well below benchmark. And lastly for our JM students um out of seven students we have four of them are at well below and then three of them are at below benchmark. So this is the combined class of of the two kindergarten classes. So we have out of 39 um students 13% are at least at benchmark. So as you can see 66% of those we have um the students are at well below benchmark. So for their uh for the strength of kindergarten we have phoning week awareness and for um the area to focus is in decoding. So before we proceed to um first grade do you have any questions for this one? N okay so let's proceed to first grade
which we have miss in class. So 44% of the students are at below benchmark well below benchmark 28% of the students are at below benchmark and we have 28% of the students are at and above benchmark. So for the relative strength we have six no sorry 78% of the students are at benchmark and above benchmark which is decoding and for the area to focus we have 83% of the students are at and below at no sorry well below benchmark and below benchmark which is word reading. So for our sped students in first grade, three of the sped students uh three sorry two of the two sped students are well below benchmark and the other one is at below benchmark. For our um EL students out of four EL students, two of them are at well
below benchmark. One is at below benchmark and the other one is at benchmark. And for our JM students uh out of the six students, four of four of them are at well below. The other one is at benchmark and the other one is above benchmark. So this will be the last part for my report in first grade. Do you have any other questions? Thank you. Now let us go to second grade which is Miss Abellia's class. So 52% of the students are at below well below benchmark. 26% of the students are at below benchmark. 22% of the students are at and above benchmark. So for the relative strength we have here um the word reading. So 30% of the students are at benchmark. For the area to focus it is letter sounds and basic comprehension
where we have 87% of the students are at below well below benchmark. So for our sped students out of four sped students three of them are at well below and the other one is at below benchmark. For our e students four of them are at well below benchmark. And lastly for our Jon students out of seven uh students four is at well below one is at below benchmark and the the other one is at benchmark. Now let us proceed to our third graders. So just like the kindergarten class we have two uh third grade class. So let's start with Miss Sano's class. 39% of the students are at well below benchmark. 6% is at below benchmark. And then we have 28% for at benchmark and then 20 the other 28% is above benchmark. So for
this class the strength is in letter sounds and in decoding. So as you can see 61% are at benchmark for letter sounds and we also have um help me add 44 >> 61 61 sorry >> 61% of the students are at benchmark for decoding and lastly for area two focus we have basic comprehension um six 72% of the students >> so let's go to the other third grader class which is um Miss Pishot's class. 47% of the students are at well below benchmark. 24% is at below benchmark. Um 30% of the students are at and above benchmark. So for their strength as you all can see it is word reading we have 53% of the students are at benchmark and for the areas to focus we have three letter sounds decoding and reading fluency. Now
to combine all the third grade class um we have >> 43% are at least benchmark and then we also have their strength which is in word reading and their area to focus is basic comprehension for for the strength they have 46% for word reading uh the students are at benchmark and then for basic comprehension we have 32% of the students Sorry 54 54% of the students are at well below benchmark. So for our third grade class uh three sped students out of three sped students one is at well below and the other two is at benchmark. For our e students five of them uh four is at well below and the other one is above benchmark. And lastly for our JM students they have 10 students three is at well below uh three is at
below one is at benchmark and lastly three four above benchmark. So this is the um devil's assessment result for uh kindergarten to third grade classes. So as you can see uh I think it's the third graders who has the most students. It is perfect because um we are focusing on third graders since they will be um having the test for um what's as a AAS. >> So for K to3 students um 27% of the students are at benchmark and 52% is at well below benchmark. So this is um from kinder to third grade. So this is the result for beginning of the school year. Just to um give you a summary we have here um for kinder for first grade and for second grade and third. So most of the right now for beginning of
the school year as you can see most of the result uh we have for well below and below benchmark uh our focus is for them to uh get >> go down and then for at benchmark and above benchmark our focus is for them to go up. So right now for kinder we have 66% for first grade we have 44% in well below um 52% for second grade and 43% for third grade. So these are the BOI scores or the identified challenges for our beginning of the school year. So the first one especially for kindergarten it is their beginning of formal education. And so most of our kids uh it is their first time going to school. Some of them went to prek and some of them went to Head Start. But most of our kids
it's their beginning um formal education. And we also have what we call summer break. So right now what are we doing? So we have here tiers one, two and three. So for uh for our class for from kindergarten to third grade we have allotted two hours of um literacy block. So part of our two hours we have our tier one which is our whole group. So this is where we introduce our um lessons every day in phonics our phonics instruction. And for tier two this is where we do our small groups. So every class we have at least four to six students in every group and then for small group we will all the students will be given different um instructions and strategies to support where um to support the needed um do you call
it the needed skills for the different students and for tier three this is what we call our double dose of intervention because we we have given all the students uh intervention in small group for tier three. We have another intervention for those students who are really struggling especially our students who are at well below benchmark. So our plans we have here our instructional support or our instructional assistant which is Miss W Miss Wendy right Miss Wendy. So Miss Wendy will be with us to help us with our uh struggling students. So those identified students who are at well below and at below benchmark uh will be pulled out from the class and then Miss Vindy will give them support especially on the um skills that they need. We also have we have to tap JOM
or EZ funding and title one for our JOM students. And lastly >> JOM EL and all the identified struggling um students and lastly we have fall inter session. So those students who are identified the well below and at below benchmark um they will be invited for our fall break uh inter session. So I think that's all for our dibbles beginning of the school year um result. You have any other questions? Do I guess for your tier three? What um I guess who's doing the tier three? So it's going to be Wendy Robertson. And is that a pull out? um some of the identified um students will be pulled out by Miss Wendy, but also the teachers will also do um ERP intervention since it is embedded on our schedule. And what does that look like?
>> The last part of our schedule. >> Yeah. Last part of our schedule. >> And the last part of our schedule in the afternoon. >> So that's another small group. >> Yes. It's another small group, but this one we target the well below um benchmark students. So let's say for example I have three students who are at well below benchmark. I will call those three students. So I will give them different instructions and then the other students will be given um >> independent work >> the you have small group for tier two and three and it's >> tier two sorry tier two for the literacy block in the morning and then we have a separate schedule in the afternoon for tier three. Okay. And then so Wendy's going to be pulling those same route with
kids in addiction. >> So didn't we hire a reading interventionist? What happened to that job? >> Oh, say it again. >> Didn't we hire a reading interventionist? And what happened to that physician? >> I believe we had it. I'm correct, Miss uh M. Mercy. Last year we had we had Misso was helping out with Dr. told the third grade for the oral reading fluency part. I was the first last year was they first did the test right on the state assessment. So Dr. Bome was actually kind of she was in our library working with different groups but she was going there helping out specifically with writing. So she was helping multiple groups whereas Mrs. L was also helping get the students ready for the board. She was also still helping out in other areas like
with keyboard. So what we have right now based on the need We have we have real high kinder and third grade numbers. So we wanted to kind of follow the best practices model of of having a smaller class size. So we have two kindergarten classrooms I believe both of them with 18 students more or less from below. And we have both third grade classrooms with that same number 18 students and below to really maximize just them getting that more individual attention and and just trying to that's where the biggest need was at the start of the year. It's it's a great challenge because we had we had a higher number of in this cohort in this early primary cohort from years past. So that's where the the the idea we had became as far as
trying to get an instructional assistant. in addition to help, but we saw the need that we had to have um our teachers that we had that we had in class to lower that class size and to use. So, so on a daily basis, all the students all day because of that best practices strategy of a smaller class size are getting more additional instruction in a smaller class setting and now we're going to have Miss Progress and also pull out those students to give them extra help as well. So is that really of interest in the classroom as well offering these tier two and three tier three? >> They are they are in the form of of the classroom teacher. As far as having a reading interventionist per se, we don't have that right now. We
we have we have we had the we had the based on the enrollment numbers it was an urgent need to try and have those classrooms smaller class size. So that's that's the focus that we have right now. I see that and I mean I could see that in a teacher being able to offer that tiered support. I'm just curious because we're hiring another >> person to support our teachers, >> right? >> When we hired someone last year to do this >> and that and that's and that's that's that was set up we had um I don't want to say unfortunately but it was it was it was great to see our numbers go up. So our our kinder numbers were and third grade numbers would have been very high. And so we just had to
get like in the last the last few weeks before school started. We had to get creative and really try to keep our class size especially at those K3 testing grades. Um we had to try to keep them as small as possible to accommodate teachers as well. So >> I think it's wonderful. I think it's great and I think it's going to be a great asset. I'm just wondering what are we doing with our previous reading interventionist? Well, uh, they're in the classroom now. They're they're in the classroom. As far as we have an additional third grade class and we have an additional kindergarten class, we >> the reading interventures that we >> they're now they're they're the teacher. They're the teacher in the classroom now. >> Because our our enrollment went up, >> right? Our
enrollment went up. We had to address the need of of the big class size. >> So, this was a last change. Basically, it's not weeks before. It's days. >> It's days before the the beginning of the year. >> M one of the one that's on there. She's not a teacher. >> Miss B. I mean, she's not one of the teachers. >> No, she she she was helping last year in that role in that capacity. >> Yeah. >> She she's help she's helping out working in the library, helping different grade levels now. She's not she's not just helping the primary. She's also helping I believe the high school level as well. She's helping >> for elementary. >> She's helping a lot of different grade levels right now. >> We're we're going to revisit this once we
have all our teachers. But again, like we had to make last minute changes. It was open house and we see the Jewish number. >> So last minute you had to make changes. They're ready. They were ready with whatever I asked them to prepare for. But I was, you know, I appreciated Miss Alano and Elder Romeo for the last minute changes because they and and and Miss Leo as well. We have we have to split kindergarten and we have to make changes to our third grade and I know Dr. Bman was supporting as well at the elementary where we don't have all our teachers yet. We are going to revisit this once we have um the sixth grade that will be joining us very soon. >> Okay. I was just curious because you know I mean
we hired someone last year and we're being asked to hire someone again this year. I'm just making sure that the resources that we're we've hired are being used >> appropriately. Okay. Thank you. >> I just I just wonder what you did wrong. >> You got both my grandsons in your class. Oh yeah. No, both of them were because uh we started our beginning of the school year earlier so that we will be able to identify um the needs of the kids. So now since we have identified those kids, we'll be able to give them support. So the earlier the better so that hopefully fingers crossed for mid uh middle of the school year we'll be having higher score. Yeah, she she shared with me earlier that she has started the progress monitoring. We just ended
the window on Friday. Progress monitoring is starting right away and that's crucial. >> Well, thank you very much. >> Thank you so much. >> Next item on the agenda is the awards and recognition. >> Yes, Mr. President, members of the board, I will turn it over to our teachers. Um they are here to present. We have two students. Two of the other high school students are on the volleyball team. So, we're going to have them come back in October. So, I'll turn it over to our high school teachers. We have Miss Bautista and Missingo. You guys got it. um to present this one. Um let me read a little introduction. This month we recognize a student who despite just starting their high school journey and even as a new place on campus has already made
a lasting impression. For the very beginning of the school year, this student has shown determination, eagerness to learn, and a positive positive attitude that uplifts those around her. Her ability to adopt quickly, participate actively, and display bold respect and kindness has set a strong example for fellow freshmen. We are proud to honor our student of the month for freshman class, Kamali Mes. [Music] I would like to read the certificate. This certificate is awarded to Kamali Masquez who are being selected by your teacher for your outstanding academic achievement based on excellent and growth in your in your classroom. You have modeled great behavior that follows follows the Aaho Unified School District rear expectation of being responsible, respectful, and ready to learn. Thank you for serving as an exceptional student leader in the AU school district. Hey,
let's go. >> Good evening to everyone. Um I'm Mrs. Maliko, a um a high school math teacher. Um the same certificate will be given to Sam Bess. Uh we have chosen her as our the sophomore superintendent awardy for this month. Sam has consistently demonstrated responsibility, punctuality, and a genuine kindness toward her peers. She's always prepared for class and goes out of her way to help her classmates. Congratulations Sam and thank you for being such an inspiring example to others. And also I would like to thank also your mom for having Sam and Sam is a transfer student >> and then when we have her we were really we really appreciated her so much. Okay. because she's been helping our class especially in my class the mathematics uh in in our algebra class and now in
geometry class that she's really good at it and that she's very kind enough to offer help to whoever is in need. So thank you ma'am for your support always for Sam and Sam congratulations >> one two Mr. President, members of the board, I believe that concludes for our awards and recognition um as well. And so I know we have our parents here and teachers. Normally you're welcome, you're welcome to stay for the meeting. We understand also if you have to get home and have dinner or do homework. So at this time we'll uh parents or teachers and students would like to uh to leave the meeting, you can do that as well. That's fine. Thank you so much. >> Thank you. So, next up in the meeting is the public comments. >> And before we
do that, I'll say visitors are welcome to speak on agenda and non-aggenda items. Comments are limited to three minutes and we request comments be made from the podium. Please state your name and relationship to the district prior to making your comments. Please note that members of the board may not discuss items that are not specifically identified on the agenda. Therefore, action taken is limited to directing the administration to look into the matter, responding to any criticism, or scheduling the matter for future consideration. And I have Mr. Clifford Evans. That's me. Want me stand right here? >> Yes. Okay. U my name is Clifford Evans. I live right over here on the corner of Ala. I call it 85. First house passed the fire department. Um it's a sad day that I have to bring this
up to the board here, but uh of course we know what happened to a commentator today. He was murdered. Uh we had a 13year-old boy also that they served a warrant on. He was uh getting ready for a mass shooting. And it's very very very sad where we are entering into a society of a lot of anger in our culture and we don't see it subsiding anytime soon and that's the sad part. And I'm affiliated with a company out of Toronto, Canada. It's called Extract One Technologies. That's spelled XT Rac. word one oe technologies and it's a very fast growing company and what they provide is security at your doorways and what a lot of the things that I hear because I follow this quite often because of being affiliate of this company is one
statement I always hate to hear I can't believe it happened here think about that that's the sad part But the system that they have far right up to the present date is the best available. You can set it at an entrance way. You only have to have one person and that person doesn't even have to be where that system is at. You can have it at every door. It works off one platform and he can be sitting in an office. It cuts your security expenses down by about 66%. That's the good thing about it. When you go by this system, you don't even know you go by. There's no wand. Whoever is carrying a backpack, they don't have to take it off. They don't have to move the backpack around the system. You don't have
to take your iPads. Everything can walk straight through this system. It not only detects the individual who is either carrying a weapon or a firearm. It will detect a weapon down to one inch, but it will also show exactly where at on that person or in the backpack where it is located. It has approximate a 90% accuracy rate. Nothing is perfect, but that is a very high uh accuracy rate. Now, I'm going to name six different occupations off here. Arenas and stadiums, ticket venues, attractions, workplaces, casinos, schools, and healthcare. Which one of them six do you think has the highest probability of somebody being attacked with a weapon or firearm? Anybody got any idea? It's it's the medical the hospital. In fact, not too long ago, an individual just did an exam on an individual.
The person got up and shot and killed. No, no rhyme or reason whatsoever. And and it's coming on stronger and stronger. We're in and what we have to do, we have to be proactive. We have to be on the offensive because we never think it's going to happen in the school system where we are at. You could have somebody walk right through that door right now. I am a licensed firearm carrier, but I know in the state of Arizona I am not allowed to carry it on the school grounds. That's law. I'm I'm a veteran and I make sure I follow my law. But the problem is you could have somebody enter any time during the week and you never know it. And that's the sad part of it. But that's why one of the
things that was really touching me is where I live. I get to see the parents and the grandparents walking their children to school in the morning. And I got watching. I said, you know, I got to go to the board and mention this to them. You can get grants. The systems all cost differently. They've got three different types of systems. ever how deep you want to uh x-ray something, that's the system that you get. Of course, the better that you go, the more expensive it's going to cost you. But you can get it on subscription if you wish, or you can buy it outright. You get a grant to purchase it. And then if you ever have any problems with it, they'll be more than happy to send it tech to correct the problem. Have
any questions? No. No questions at all. Okay. Is this the first time that the board's ever been presented with something like this? >> We usually don't have vendors come to the board. >> Well, I'm not a vendor. >> We're not allowed. >> No, I'm not a vendor. No, I'm not a vendor. Okay. I'm a private investor. All right. And I invest in different companies, but I am no vendor. And what I'm saying is that it it it is the right thing to do to highlight something and to make sure that we fully understand what is taking place in our society. And that's the only reason why I'm here. You got the name. I've got two different uh things I've uh printed out here. And uh may I approach the board? >> No, you can leave
>> over there. Okay. There you go. There you are. >> Thank you. >> You're welcome. If you don't have any other questions, I will leave. And thank you for allowing me to present that today. Thank you very much. >> Thank you, sir. >> Good evening. >> Okay. Next up, I'm going to make a motion to adopt the consent agenda. >> I'll second it. >> Any discussion question? We'll have a vote. >> Okay. All those in favor say I. >> I. Um any objection? >> Okay, motion carries. Four to zero. >> Aware of our high price security team that we have. >> The first item up here on personnel is the certified employment of substitute teacher Mary Helen. >> Mr. President board, Mary Helen, a teacher at schools for 35 years and a substitute for an
additional six from 2014 to 2020 has applied to be a substitute again for all schools for the 2526 school year. Teaching certificate and fingerprint card are valid recommend the approval of the appointment of Mary Halis as a substitute teacher for the 2526 school year. >> Okay, I have a motion. >> I'll make the motion. >> Second. >> If there's no question or discussion, we will call for the vote. >> Okay. All those in favor say I. >> I. >> Any opposed? Motion carries four to zero. >> Next up, we have certified classified employment of instructional assistant Wendy Roberts. >> Mr. Mr. President, members of the board, the administration has posted an interview for an instructional assistant position for the Apple Elementary School. The elementary instructional assistant will work six hours a day with students from
grades K to two, K2, also K3. Wendy Robertson is being recommended to for hire as the instructional assistant. Recommend the approval of the employment of Wendy Robertson as a as a elementary school's instructional assistant. And after looking at the data, we can see right away um that she will be very uh very helpful with the K3 reading support, guided reading, decoding, comprehension, sign words, vocabulary sheet, all of that. But she's going to be working directly with each teacher and with their lesson plans. >> Okay, I will make that motion. >> I'll second. >> Okay. And if there's no question or discussion, I'll call for the vote. >> All those in favor say I. >> I. Any opposed? Motion carries. 4 to zero. >> Next up, we have approval of additional additional hours for parro workshop.
Mr. President, members of the board, the ESS department would like to schedule a deescalation basics training for our ESS staff on Tuesday, September 17th from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Is it Tuesday or was it supposed to be Wednesday? Wednesday, September 17th from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. This training will include 15 pair professionals and two teachers. Compensation is requested for 15 pair professionals for two hours of training as it will focus on strategies to manage challenging behaviors, promote student safety, and better prepare staff to support our students effectively. Funds will come from idea basic. Recommend the approval of the two additional hours for 15 care professionals for deescalation training on September 17th, 2025. Sir. >> Okay. May I have a motion? >> Make a motion. >> Second. >> Providing that training. >> Who's providing the training?
>> Oh, this training will be from from our ESS department, right? >> The special education director, >> right? Mr. Delar will be providing the train like train the trainers more or less, right? >> They'll be they'll be providing the train. Do you hear anything further? >> Okay, then we'll call for the vote. >> All those in favor say I. >> I. >> Any opposed? >> Motion carries. Four to zero. >> Okay. Next up, we have certified and classified employment for fall inter session. >> Yes, sir. Mr. Mr. President, members of the board, um, eight teachers and four parent professionals from K12 will work with students who need additional support and math and ELA during the fall break from October 6th to the 9th for 5 hours per day for teachers and four hours for parents.
The teachers in need to be have expressed an interest in teaching working fall session. You see there we have the names are Bare SO Romeo, Sesno, Fis, Mr. Hernandez, Mr. Mr. Speda, Miss Mano, instructional leader, Miss Williams, par professionals, Miss Staglan, and the safety monitor will be at Chief David recommend the approval of the above list of teachers, teachers, aids, and safety monitors to be employed during the fall 2025 interession from October 6 to the 9th, 2025, sir. >> Okay. May I have a motion? >> Make a motion. >> Second. Any discussion? And that's the vote. >> All those in favor say I. >> I. >> Any opposed? Motion carries.
