this item I will is on re only thing I have to say is I think this would be a fantastic addition to okay if there are no more comments or discussion on that have vot all in favor say I I all oppos say no approve was item up with the classifi resignation of preko teachers a Mal Mr President members of board of M Harley and professional teachers a has submitt a better resignation to Administration 2024 recommend the approval of the resignation of Bethany Mara hope I'm saying that right Mrs C how's the right way to say her last name Mor effective September 26 2024 excuse me may I have a motion on that I'll make the there any discussion I call for the vote all in favor say I I I all oppos say no

approve zero next item certified stien for after school tutor Mr President members of the board Administration is seeking approval the P teacher stiens for after school tutoring from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Monday Tuesday and Thursday following teachers have expressed interest in Tut after school you have your high school teachers list there elementary teachers JM teachers recommend the approval of the above tutoring stiens for the corresponding teachers I have [Music] discuss all in favor say I I all opposed say no approved 5 Z okay next up is the reading intervention schedule Mr President members of the board reading intervention teacher a K12 special competing our doctorate in special education will focus on providing targeted literacy support across all grade levels with the district's emphasis on mowr move onwi reading her schedule will prioritizes students and grade

bands that need the most intervention her expertise will be key to helping students reach critical reading Milestones no board action necessary this is an informational item only turn over to miss Adam who introduce just a quick one reading intervention schedule as what Dr sh has mentioned um she's going to be providing Services cost so um we um put her schedule by detail by period um each teacher needs their planning time so that's going to be her period one and then for primary team um she's going to be attending period to um 20 minutes for kindergarten and 20 minutes for first grade we're hoping it's going to be a plugin approach then periods three and four would be Library specials period five would be intensive on English language um arts for grades 9 to 12 period

six would be for our third graders and then period seven will be for second graders and then on the next slide would show what different resources we have available at our districts um the two and the three interventions we have the rest blast the ISL Amplified an n-class intervention and all of these um resources um our primary teachers from kindergarten to sixth grade they have access to this and these are the same access of Lo that we as well and she certified secondary English uh language arts Elementary and I think she has a so she's got the whole kitten where she at now she's on her way from her home country she had to go back because she was on day one but she's now coming over from she was a former teacher here and

then she went home and so she has she's a really good teer I believe the last year he was here there's for in reading and Ma I'm sorry for professional development we just turned in our Mo on reading literacy plan October 1st so we said for the coming the teachers are coming back this year we're going to provide refresher for those resources then for the new ones that definitely going to training how to access and as a tier two and three intervention the only thing that worries me about these resources is that three of the four of them are computer-based they're not teacher direct explicit instruction that I think is important because I mean we see the mclass intervention that will dig deep into dri awareness I want to see more um science of reading

strategies I want see those big five being hit daily with this intervention because nothing beats That explicit teacher instruction especially when it comes time you know because this all will be fine your phic awareness the teacher needs to start scaffolding fluency you know um phonics the comprehension piece vocab that doesn't come from these computer based intervention strategies plus intervention then the very detailed lesson plan they do but it's very specific for like the needs of each student your awareness right but a teacher needs to scaffold on top of that to get our fluent readers we know that and 20 minutes for your little ones is not a lot of time so I think you need to get most of your B here by not using these computer-based things because when I look at this I'm

thinking are the kids coming in for intervention sitting on a computer and doing these programs I want to see a student coming in and working directly with the teacher Running Records guided reading guided writing yes and that's what okay I'm just saying it's great and I love these programs I use some of these programs nothing beats teacher directed instruction which three of the four of these are not M M plus intervention is what we discussed that the intervention te but it's pieces yeah right it's pieces it's not that whole big five science of reading correct because it's intervention and I I do intervention daily and I hit those big five every day so it's it this is great the intervention for M class is fine but it's only one piece of five different pieces that

need to be hit daily right so you know it just just know to just not too that um we are in the process of evaluating more resources I just emailed you the 995 because you mean these reading resources can be used during class time when teachers pulling small groups this is not what I want to see as tier two and tier three intervention for our students especially when we saw the dibles data last month or two months ago where we have one group of students and now we've identified because we took those students scores out we know these are the lowest scoring students I want to see those scores improving I want to see those students receiving that intensive intervention that's not just computer-based and I agree and it shouldn't be it shouldn't be absolutely

that's it's supposed to be intensive direct explicit instruction instru absolutely that's how it's supposed to be not in front of a computer that's why you know when you see three of these four I'm like it's making me panic because when you have three of four tier two and tier three intervention strategies as being computer-based it's scary but I know the teachers are doing their small group that's the explicit instruction that they do and then while they're doing the small group instruction then when they go back they also have those extra resources the online resour absolutely that's that's why pull out pull plug in tier two and three shouldn't be that are we talking the entire kid are we talking just no I think it was those group of kids that were taken out of the

devil's data so many kids those are our e students it look like um a number of them are Els some of them are Nels but they been identified by M plus um in the report it has the all those kids that were in that red so that tells us that that's the one that we have to focus for for three so what a teacher the student ratio of the of these interventions I mean is that one teacher and 20 kids one teacher and five kids no it a small group um I'm not sure if we have the numbers just a guess where she I don't care this post Ball Park um I know kindergarten has 21 kids so if she's going a divide her group she's going to group it according to data so it

could be one is to six it depends but it can't be more than six I'm hoping it's just five but this is flexible grouping it changes depending on the needs and we are this week when you know since Monday we have been meeting with with teachers individually because they have just different data and we are doing data you know the data talk with them and discussing our next steps we're documenting it and you know those kinds of of things that's entire Index this week and next week is her Dibbles account already set up so she can start with progress monitoring also not yet she um one she doesn't have access to her out schools at or and for some reason it's block there we try to create her an account while she's still there so

she she can have access to all these things it's being blocked would she be the one doing progress monitoring as well she should be she's the intervention teacher just make that you yeah so she's going to be doing that we just want to make sure that her Devil's account is set up and ready to go I'm the one that creates the account it's just that we create the account using you know her her school email and right now it's not active because she has to activate it on her side and it's not making so that's why we stopped Mr Hopkin M Rodriguez so if I hear you correctly do you want a more handson guided reading site word reading fluency meic awareness fluency comprehension and you want you want tier two and tier three to

be more handson versus absolutely interactive writing handson Ed reading and writing absolutely absolutely because they're not going to get that in a computer program no no and I agree I I mean just the the the heart and the pulse of a literacy block program is guided reading absolutely because that's where you're teaching them small group three to five students the skills of meaning structure and meeting their deficits right that's a good I guess that's good resources but as she goes for confident in her in here and looking at the data and regularly looking at the children she could you know gr more into looking at different areas and use different materials I know one time you used guided readers um that has all try to remember if she was trained on that she knows the

execution from the start until the end of the intervention that she has reading effec was we know we know right end engaging all the senses absolutely and and just scaffolding right when you see it or corre Running Records is my go-to I mean I do it daily then you find out exactly where they're they're finding or running into problem high frequency words is it like blending is it your bow sounds you know I mean those Running Records intervention has all those R monitoring to at the same time and it's not computer it's it's basically you know and tangible they're all doing the I don't know what they you know those chips oh yeah Al con boxes the AL con boxes yeah Y and it can be do with be done with sounds it can be

done with letters you know I mean so there's it's so powerful just using an El box % yes it's big would it be possible maybe once the teacher gets here and gets established that we can before the board and speak to us about what yeah thing I want to say GL the that understands all this understand it so I'm glad you're here long story short right Mr is Mr Hopkins our running record is as a students reading if feel like at an emergent level every word that they're reading say she's reading and I'm the teacher working with her I have the text in front of me and as the students reading I'm checking off if they get it right if they're not getting it right making a code of what is what are they having

trouble with they're trained and how to put is it an M for meaning s for structure but that's why it's it's so is it's what she's talking about you're right there you're figuring out okay well this student has a hard time with it's very detailed you start looking at patterns where are they is queing but what's happening then you know that's where my instruction needs to come from so it's so powerful it also builds that fluency because each day they go back and reread this text and each day they increase their word count and they increase their accuracy which is so important for comprehension and yeah so very powerful that is a an item that does not have a vote attached to it so there's no more on to next item which is the first

business item approval of the pre tuition Mr President the board um the 3K flooding Source first things first grant is reducing the number of students flooded from 13 to six a breath down of the cost per student compared to the funding for student is below the administration is requesting increasing the looking tuition from 275 to other option number 1 325 or option 2475 per month her request the last increase for PRK was in May 2016 from 00 to $275 cost per month was 500 in 20 2016 agenda item and backup for the May 2016 me are attached in consultation with Consultants this recommended tuition increases to help cover the cost of inflation which is almost 24% increases 2016 seven possible families will be paying tuition PRK is not funded by the state formula ADM Grant

in tuition based funding supports the program otherwise all supplemental funding comes from ml if the prease to has an i there is some State funding to support that student cost of services not tuition there you have the chart and for your discussion okay before we have any discussion I'd like to make a motion on this i' like to make the motion of we do the increase number one to with any child that is already enrolled in prek be grandfathered in at their current rate of tuition with no increase so basically any child that's enrolled after we make this approval either way wouldn't would have to pay the higher rate but those already enrolled would be paying the current rate okay and with the public knowledge of that this will have to probably be visited again

next year for an additional increase that's my motion I will second that yeah I think so the three that are sort of coming in November are they already enrolled okay okay but yeah I think um as I've said before this hadn't increased in like eight years and it had been increasing just as much as $25 each year we'd be funded at at not even the level I'm here be funding at that highest L suggested so I think we have to do it with the understanding that next year because we we need to catch up minimum wage has gone up PR drastically in the last eight years here so all the wages have the cost so I understand we don't want to have a barrier for any of our students especially the students that's such an

important part of started right at the same time we need to we need to try to catch up with the expenses as they've increased can we make this a regular like June or July I would like it to be June or July and not in August yeah I would say June and that would give people does year actually I have a question that motate when does enroll start for the next year because I know it's before June or July and the past scholarship would relased your applications in April but this last year they released it sometime in May actually it's almost the end of May and they released your application packets for so we should probably discuss this before April so people know coming in when they enroll for the following year no it's going

to be this much i' like I'd like to see that like a February March at the latest yeah yeah we don't want to Blindside people oh you signed up and now we're increasing after you signed up so I I think March sounds like it would be an adequate amount of time before en starts people start schol opportunity to have a conversation with some of the parents to talk with about this and the consensus that I got was to them is more than um child care if it was just child care then that would be a different story and we would be subsidizing child care right this cotat runs such a great program over there that they all feel that it's a big benefit to their children to be in that program and so part of

this issue is because she does want a great program that you know parents want want their kids in there right they want their kids to get ahead and so I I feel like you guys do that this is something that we should support I do support this motion so I'm glad you brought it up a good discuss okay if there's no further discussion on this we'll call for the vote favor say I I any oppos no approve 5 to zero thank next item up is the second reading of the yo Unified School District's governing board policy adoption 801 807 yes Mr Hopkins M of the board most of the following policy advisories are updated to align with language and statute and our Arizona Administrative Code policies baa and igig IGA removed language that was not
