022crucial for attracting appropriately certified Educators in critical areas by offering stiens schools can promote diversity and mitigate turnover this strategic allocation aligns with federal grants priorities and ensures the effective use of resources to recruit top talent in the education sector recommend the approval of a 2425 title to retention stipid for new teachers okay I'll make the motion I a second can I ask a question so this is just for people you're going to hire just just to attract provide like an additional motivation to attract teachers to come here and start working yes okay any other question follow no okay okay next item is a certified stien Title One title two and state tutor Mr President members of the board Administration is seeking approval to P teacher stiens for various work performed throughout the year you

023have title two stiens the PLC team leaders the amount per leader Mentor teacher the amount for the mentor teacher title one stien for a curriculum committee chairperson and also curriculum committee members and also for the state tutoring Grant recommend the approval of the above styons for the bond to I'll make that motion I'll second it but I do have a question um is this amount is it a one time payment or is it like like throughout their paycheck one time okay I was just curious okay there's no more questions for discussion all those in favor I all those pass Z okay now we're on the business items the first of which is the 2024 District annual expenditure budget revision Mr President members of the board in accordance with Arizona statutes ARS 15- 905 and 15-

024910 by May 15th the board May revise the school district annual expenditure budget after notice has been given and a public meeting has been held attached is the district annual budget expenditure budget revision superintendent's recommendation is the approval of the 2024 District annual expenditure budget revision and this relates back to the study session item where you saw the PowerPoint and the voice over from uh Tyler Mo rcfo consultant okay you have a motion I will make the motion I'll second it all those in favor I all those opposed passes 4 to zero that's the yes that each of us each of us needs to sign it uh next item is the approval of the 2425 academic calendar Mr President members of the board the 2425 off schools academic calendar has proposed and reviewed this calendar

025meets the minimum instructional days 180 including all state and federal holidays notable changes to the calendar include parent conferences in September and February and moon long spring break of one week recommend the approval adoption of the 2425 academic calendar as stated on on Monday in the study session um quarter 1 and quarter three Fallen spring break will happen right at the end of those quarters which wasn't happening before um quarter one two weeks from the parent teacher conferences until the end of the quarter quarter three three weeks from the parent teacher conferences until the end of the quarter so that students and families can come to the meetings with their teachers see what the grades are and still have time to bring those grades up before the end of the nths it's a positive other

026school districts do it most notably two UNIF school district has this format and it does it is very positive so I I do have one question we have to have a motion in second before we can discuss so I'll make the motion I'll second so I you a question going to be enough time from the start of school to parent teacher conferences to get an actual like grasp on their grade like that's only a month is that going to be enough time because I've had some parents come to me and a couple teachers come to me asking me if that was truly going to be enough time well I believe it will be and talking with Dr sholtz and the leadership team um we felt if we'd rather have at least have some time to

027where parents can just get to know you know what their grades are um they may get progress reports they may not get them as this gives a chance for everyone involved from from our experience these past few years we've noticed that one the parent teacher conference has happened at the end of the quarter and their parents come in we've had feedback as far as that we wish we could have come and talked before the end of the quarter we should it should be plenty of time we'll make sure when we have the the back to school meeting in July with all our staff that everything is set up in order so that teachers make sure you have enough time to you have enough grades to to give the students so that the parents when they

028come in they can have enough grades to talk about but it should be fine it should be fine in other districts um it works out so it is it is it is a change but we believe it's a positive change I think it's a great way to be proactive right and really kind of I don't know as a team as a parent home and school team to really like get a hold of things before they get out of hand so I I mean six weeks is I think enough time to at least know where you're headed and gives enough head time for correction yeah okay is there any further discussion on this we have a vote next item is the 20232 24 performance payout and retention stien Mr President members of the board 2324 performance

029pay data has been calculated by the leadership team the board has being asked to review and award the attack proposition to funds and redention compensation of qualified teachers from the 23 24st school year recommend the approval of a performance pay payout for certified teachers who criteria of the 2324 301 plan and the second payment for retention compensation for returning certified staff performance compensation will be 5614 this month second part of the retention compensation P will be 2814 this month okay do I have a motion I'll make the motion I will second it I favor I okay next item is the approval of fundraisers for Student Activities Mr President members of the board in consultation with Miss ad who was present high school student council adviser the following uh fundraisers are being submitted for yearly approval

030per uniform system of financial records Car Wash dances food dinner sales game concession stand Fall Festival talent show holiday store um Mr guth's favorite smoothie and hot cocoa sale holiday treats Valentine's December uh candygram Thanksgiving cards candy yeah I was gonna say you know what you you're goad I'm sorry it is recommended that the board approve the above list of fundraises for 2425 school year we have Miss here in case there are any questions okay maybody have a motion I'll make the motion I'll second it can we can we make a motion to amend it event yeah where say game concession stand if we can change that to event so Trish made the motion so you'd have to modify your motion to change that wording from just games to include all so I make a

031motion to change the word from game to event con and approve and approve it and I second at that all thank you thank you said it at the same time sorry oh sorry about that sorry sorry okay next item is the approval of the Student Activities treasur yes Mr President members of the board Arizona right taes 15- 11122 States any school district having Student Activities money shall establish a Student Activities fund and appointing Student Activities Treasurer the administration is recommending Angelina V district and superintendent secretary be appointed as the Student Activities Treasurer the 2425 school year recommending that the board approve Angelina Vell as a Student Activities treasure for 2425 school I'll make that motion I will second there any questions or discussion all in favor I okay and the final business item is the

032report on the ad supported tutors Mr President members of the board study smart tutors an endorsed Tut tutoring provider in the state's achievement tutoring program will conduct tutoring sessions from May 28th to July 9th these sessions are tailored for atrisk students in grades K3 focusing on those grappling with meeting Arizona's third grade reading proficiency Benchmark the goal is to close the performance disparities among students emphasizing The crucial role of reading proficiency and academic success Miss will make a report to the board about this ad sponsored program um this uh this is a very good program and so I'm going to turn it over to her uh it's also I believe a good um opportunity for another good partnership for our district Miss Mr presid members of the board thank you for this opportunity to share

033with you a like an opport important opportunity for our kids again it's a tutoring program opportunity over this summer um achievement tutoring program is a program a new program sponsored by the ad for schools with a to c letter grades I know you know High School is a c and Elementary is a b right now but this grades were based from the previous year so only our school qualified but not high school high school has qualified for the state so ad um is using the exra money funding for for this program and they'll only run till early July I do hope that they have extra funding for for the next SCH year oh can only be provided by an approved partner or the qualified School itself unfortunately it's too late for us to do it

034ourselves we didn't know about this program till you know this late second the approved partner is to study smart it will be offered during the summer um Target school again is Elementary SCH a elementary school specifically grades K to three and number of students at at this time is 32 based on the move on and reading de results they're estimating five to eight tutors I'm hoping they'll be able to get that many tutors um 3es to one is the maximum at one tutor to three but it can be at least one it can be a one-on-one the the tutor and and one student so far we have two teacher tutors interested they are in the process of onboarding and that's Miss son who is currently volunteering for us for theer three intervention for three of

035our third graders and we have Miss palit who used to be our kindergarten teacher and they are both very interested in doing this whole program till July 9th um two locations are school and the public library so just in case the school will not be available because they'll be doing something over the summer then then the public library will be the alternative mode will be it can be in person for most part I know both of them would like in person just in case some kids not available it's also available um through Zoom it can be hybrid and focus is just Ela reading specifically again priorities for students scoring well below grade level in the States move on reading test we will be getting this result I believe next week um schedule so we are

036they are now in the fifth cycle so thankfully we we're getting this the fifth cycle this the last one Monday to Thursdays and there it's still TBD to be announced because our our two tutors are still in the process of onboarding and they are still in the process of recruiting more and this by is open for the community members they're thinking of imitating what we've got it's from 8:15 to 1:15 um from Monday to Thursday again study smart tutor is an independent organization they will hire their own tutors if some of if our teacher is qualified you know to apply for them they can actually do that if and then they will reach out to the Target students and their families themselves we will support them in so by providing them the list of of

037kids their their information and I've mentioned earlier that the first priority will be the third grade because again right now we only have two tutors I'm hoping that we'll be able to get more tutors from the community are what you call that our retirees I know we have retirees that's here I'm hoping that they'll be interested to do this and in the meantime I know we have two and in those two whatever the results from ad for the move on and reading they will be our first priority and we have to make families understand that their child if ever if ever their child did not make it then they have to attend this tutorial this sessions which is very crucial you know if you can't read then less likely will be successful in the future

038so attending to this earlier is actually important and this is from the Arizona Revis statute 15701 um it requires that an Arizona student not be promoted from third grade if the student does not demonstrate sufficient reading skills on the reading portion of the Statewide assessment so again it's because of this that we are prioritizing the third grade I do hope that we have more community members that will apply as a tutor then then we'll have more kids that will benefit do we have any questions oh one more thing um can you go back at the end I know we uh the tutorials will be from jul U May 28th to July 9th I after that these kids can retake so they can retake the the ASA and I've just talk to Mr Casey and have

039not told you about this yet but Mr Casey is suggesting that they will take it during the summer and the schedule for that they have a window from June 1 to July 19 so we'll be targeting after July 9th which is the last day of their career for them to retake and whatever the result is then we have to provide more support for these kids that's how we can make them move up to the next grade level have any questions so these these tutors are paid right yes yes and I think $4 an hour and is there any interest among the teaching staff um most of our teaching staff cannot apply but we do have a few that will qualify uh because most of our teachers are J1 teachers and as J1 teachers they can

040only work for the school and this is a different you employer so they this this is only available for current third graders or is it for kids going into third grade also so so the strategy this is the target based this rate but the first the first ones that will be scheduled will be the that will not you know when once we have the May 15 result on meeting whoever did not reach the cut offs for you'll be assigning them the tutor right away and then the current third grade but I do hope that more will step up and apply so we can offer it too this only available for our current students and not Community kids like are homeschooled do you know what um I I think go I can't answer that I'm not

041sure I know achievement uh tutoring program there's a lot more details on who can Avail of the tutorial and Link there's there's a lot there's also a lot more um approved providers can do it in fact parents like this again this is an independent provider they reach out to the families themselves families have to apply or or register your child themselves we are they're just going to make sure that they understand the importance of are these families going to be given like a heads up because I just kind of received call from some third party tutor I want to make sure they're legit is the scho so for this one is yes and there's more available um approv tutors I think through the ad website yes it's very important that we are careful but for

042for this the smart tutors that they they partner with us so we we know that this is legit okay so then okay so we have two two so far and we're reaching out to try to find more what is the screening process and what are the like think it's there what kind of you know I mean like what are the qualifications right because I'm thinking like are we just getting volunteers like you're saying you know um like elderly people in retired in the community like do they have a background to be able to teach this and what curriculum are they going to be doing they actually will provide the curriculum but for our case we can partner with the Troopers and have that available that we provide that so so they're open for that and

043they also mention about providing the the materials elves and to be a tutor I'm not sure if it's in that the slide that sent us basic you have a bachelor I know you have to have a bachelor's and you need to have that ivp print card you know like fingerprint card and when did this program start um um the target is May 28th right after the school ends is still TV because they the eight and according to um according to them the the interest the tutors the the onboarding process a whole lot they're going through a whole lot of training basically okay Bachelors studies Mar the C best yeah there so there there there's a you can see there's a regular screening process they're not going to just okay whoever they're going to check do

044ad they're going to make sure check and we'll double check that they follow the protocol so so they're already going to get screened before the which is good so first I've heard of it right so how are you getting and I know it's not you it's this company right how are they getting out the word to the community that they're looking for tutors um once we have a goal only got you only got 20 days right yeah un our school year is ending the result have have to wait for the to approve we have our Target based from the the thei the middle of the Year dat yes that's that's basically our Target kids and um I'm going to check in with them tomorrow because once they have everything in place and they have a

045go signal from you know from our side then they'll come up with a flyer to reach out and I I believe they have started the recruitment already on their side as well I don't know how they're doing that because you got 20 days to recruit 20 days to vet 20 days to get a a fingerprint card well I they have I like the the the two so far they have their I you know card it's going to be more of a case we'll be lucky to have enough tutors yeah just don'ts they don't have card not W these to people that are ready to go right we may when we have like because you have to have you have to all these requirements and and a is non-notable so there are emergency Subs that we

046can get but they only last the year and then you have to show your progress in obtaining either an an Associates or finishing your B well the beauty for us is we are in a small community like like right now I already have a few in mind to reach out and like um what's her name in my she's in my head I know who she is cinon is the name well you have to have an I know a teacher I think probably probably we should have do more of that after the meeting verus right we can suggest everything's going to go do you have do you have an approximate number of how many students 32 but that's for G3 okay and will this ensure that we meet the requirements of move on when reading so

047the kids are promoting or what's happening after that um so they'll be tested right and then I know they have their own assessment too they have a preassessment and a post assessment this this program and then as long as they show growth and you'll see the results from the the reassessment for the ASA and then whatever the result is you will continue to provide is this a paid position for is okay oh you did say that is there any more discussion on this topic no no then we'll call for a vote oh wait we haven't we to call for a motion first I'll make the motion so there is perfect yeah I was on the wrong agenda item thank you Mercy thank you ma'am okay next item then is possible new agenda items for the

048next meeting does anybody on the board I would like to add one or discuss one um the possibility of getting a handicap us I'll I'll yeah because we're yeah we can't discuss it now since it's not on the agenda but you can put it on the next one you got M from Monday yes ma'am I have yours for June double data yes thank you okay there are no I was one I was given another Aid to add to both June and July but I was given to morning and I can't I couldn't change the agenda so that one Aid will be on the approval for the okay okay okay so next item is to recess into an executive session yeah I have a motion to do so I'll make the motion I will second the

049motion all in favor I I [Music] okay it's freezing in here it is cold here Shing it's
