It is with great honor that I ask you to please rise for the class of 2026. I love took it down. I climbed a mountain and I [music] turned around and I saw my reflection [music] in snow [singing] covered hills till the landl that draw me down. Oh, mirror [music] in the sky, what is love? Can the child within my heart rise above? Can I [music] sail [singing] through the changing ocean tides? Can

[cheering] My name is Coopert Dale and I am the senior class president for Canyon Deloro High School. Please remain standing as the CDIO Army Junior ROC will perform the presentation of colors, followed by the
pledge of allegiance and the national anthem. This evening, our national anthem will be performed by seniors from CDL's choir and CDL's advanced ASL seniors will be signing the anthem. I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. By [singing] the dawn [music] early light, what so proud we [singing] held at the twilight last gleaming? stripes [singing] and bright stars through the perilous [singing] fight. Oh, [singing] say does that star spangled [singing] yet for the [singing] land of the free and the home [singing and music] of the brave. [applause] [cheering] You may be seated. Well, good evening and
welcome to Dorado Stadium for the commencement exercises for the graduating class of 2026. My name is Tara Boule and I'm the proud principal of Canyon Deloro High School. I would like to start this evening by welcoming our honored guests from Amphitheater governing board. Please welcome board president, Miss Vicky Cox Golder, [applause] board vice president, Mr. Matthew Copek, [applause] board member, Miss Deanna Day, board member Dr. Michael Gemma, and board member Miss Susan Zebrat. And from Amphitheater's district leadership team, please welcome Superintendent Mr. Todd Jagger. Associate Superintendent for Elementary Education, Miss Tassy Call. Associate Superintendent for Secondary Education, Mr. Matthew Munger. [applause] Our Chief Financial Officer, Mr. Scott Little, Director of Human Resources. Mr. John Hastings, [applause] Director of Curriculum and Assessment, Miss Elizabeth Hawk, [applause] our Executive Manager of Operational Support, Mr. Rich Lanasa, [applause]
Executive Director of Student Services, Miss Kristen McGrath. [applause] Director of 21st Century Education, Miss Julie Valenuela, [applause] Director of Communications, Miss Michelle Valenuela, [applause] and the executive assistant to the superintendent and the governing board, Miss Jen Anderson. [applause] Also joining us tonight are some other principles from around our district. Please join me in welcoming from Donaldson Elementary, Principal Andrew Spaniac. >> [applause] >> from Harelson Elementary. Principal Stephanie Hayes [applause] from Innovation Academy, Principal Michael McConnell from Mesa Verdie Elementary, Principal Tim Rip. [applause] And from Cross Middle School, Principal Chris Gutierrez. [cheering and applause] Thank you all for being here with us this evening. As this is my ninth year at CDO, my experiences over the years have taught me to start this night with one thing, by saying thank you. As I mentioned at graduation
each and every year, it takes a village. And I have been fortunate to work with such extraordinary staff here at CDIO. Thank you to our assistant principles, Mr. Marco Dominguez, Miss Jennifer Flag, and Mr. Brent Spencer for managing and leading much of what it takes to make a high school run. and our counselors, teachers, and support staff year after year continue to be some of the most dedicated, wonderful, and caring people that I've ever had the honor to work with. Please join me in thanking all of them for their dedication and commitment to CDO. And finally, later this evening, lots of wind. There we go. Most of you seniors will participate in Project Grad. I would like to thank the leadership and volunteers who have been planning and working to make this event possible. We
simply cannot pull this event off without them. We have a dedicated a dedic excuse me a dedicated group of parents in our community who work tirelessly to pull this evening together. I would also like to thank the town of Oro Valley, the Ora Valley Police Department and all donors for their financial support of this incredibly important event designed to keep our graduates safe tonight. Please join me in a round of applause to show our appreciation. [applause] Now to our graduates. Tonight is an opportunity to celebrate the accomplishments of the 413 members of the class of 2026. You have been accepted to over 121 different colleges, universities, military, and vocational schools from across the country. So far, the reported year four-year in-state scholarship total came in to just around $7.6 million with out ofstate scholarships coming
in at at least $1.8 million already. This brings the grand total amount of scholarship money, including athletic scholarships for the class of 2026 to just under $10 million. [applause] Some of the scholarships and achievement highlights for this class include three National Merit finalists, four National Merit Commended students, two Dorance scholars, one Flynn semi-finalist, one NOTC scholarship recipient, 11 committed college athletes, and as we know right now, at least 18 enlisting in the military. [applause] On top of all these amazing statistics that I just shared with you, each year I asked the senior class to share some advice and some of their fondest memories as a dorado and advice for their peers. So, we'll start with a few memories. Grady Kern loved it when Mr. Ronstat sang at the assemblies. I think we all did. Darien
Castle shared that her favorite memory was freshman year when the school flooded and everybody was swimming in it. That is true. Yes. Na Lopez remembers going to the 2023 football state championship game in Phoenix. And speaking of state championships, I'm sure I'm sure this will be their favorite memory. We are joined by four seniors and their families tonight who just returned from winning the 5A state softball championship up in Phoenix. [applause] Phoebe Rose remembers taking a picture with a donkey at the A+ celebration last year. Maddie Design shared her favorite memory was winning state runner up in the state championship for golf with her four best friends. Chadwick Butterbrought remembered the engineering cardboard boat races up at the aquatic center while Alexander Elliot had fond memories of eating sandwiches with friends under a tree and
talking about current events. Grace House says that it's at CDO where she met her people, the ones that made her comfortable to be happy. Angelina shared, "The view of the mountains is gorgeous. It makes me forget that math absolutely cooked me." Madison Reynolds just loved being greeted by Filipe every single day. I think many of us did. While Francisco Rivero shared that his fondest memory was of him being a new dorado in immediately bonding with his new baseball teammates, saying that when he knew this is when he knew that being a dorado is much more than just being a student. It's about being a family. There were so many more that I could have shared, but I also wanted to share some words of wisdom and advice from your fellow classmates as well. Bailey Morris
advises us to find our future because it is waiting for us. Sienna Natali reminds us to stay curious, always work hard, and remember that it's okay to not have everything figured out yet. Jolie Lebrun says that to let curiosity be our compass, resiliency be our shield, and kindness our guide. While Jake Peterson reminds us that to be cringe is to be free. [cheering] [applause] >> Tori Robertson said, "High school taught me that confidence comes from stepping into unfamiliar situations, not from repeating what already feels safe." Christina Laguna Warder quoted Maya Angelo and said, "I can be changed by what happens to me, but I refuse to be reduced by it." Scarlett Bowman reminds us not to get it perfect, but to get it going because life is a work in progress. Samuel Teague tells us
that there's a reason the windshield is bigger than the rearview mirror. Focus more on what's next than focusing on the past. And finally, Gabriella Gonzalez reassures us that the tassel was worth the hassle. [laughter] So now, class of 2026, I've shared some of your inspiring statistics, memories, and advice. But I have one more memory for everyone here tonight. Did you know the Disney Cars movie is 20 years old this year? But many of us remember how it made its way into our kids' lives. Whether it was watching the movie on constant repeat or zooming a Lightning McQueen across the dinner table, the class of 2026 chose Race to the Finish Line as the class motto this year, and it was inspired by the Cars movie. It really is fitting for a graduating class because each
stage of your life can often feel like a race. As you all cross the stage today, it may feel like you've come to the end, but as soon as tomorrow hits, you become Lightning McQueen again as the new rookie. A new track is waiting for you. Whether it's college, careers, military, or wherever life takes you. And just like McQueen, you'll face sharp turns, unexpected obstacles, and challenges you never saw coming. The question is, will you learn the new track? Will you keep going when things get difficult? Will you chase your own version of the Piston Cup? Along the way, we'll realize something else that Lightning McQueen learned. Success is not just about being the best or crossing the finish line first. It's about the people beside you. The friends, family, teachers, and teammates who helped
you get there. After all, where would Lightning McQueen would be without his buddy Tomater or his teacher Doc Hudson? None of you made it to this moment alone. And wherever your next road leads, those lessons and relationships will continue to guide you. Because remember that every new goal in life is a new Piston Cup. Every new track will test you in different ways. And it's up to each of you to keep moving forward, adapt, and push yourselves to reach the finish line. So, class of 2026, you being here tonight already proves that you know how to do that. So, graduates, start your engines. [applause] And now I would like to call the senior class speaker to the stage, Izzy Castillo. [screaming] [applause and cheering] Good evening. I'm Isidoro Castillo, your senior class speaker, and we're
here to celebrate 13 years of hard work, and I'm thrilled to be crossing this finish line with you all tonight. The 2026 Daytona 500 winner was 30-year-old Tyler Reic. In the course of the race, Redd crossed the finish line 200 times, but only after lap 200 did he see the checkered flag. In our 13 years of schooling, we have seen a multitude of finish lines. Completing elementary school, eighth grade promotions, and driving tests each came with their fair share of challenges. Some of them may seem silly now, but at the time, they were each the most difficult thing we are yet to encounter. On each and every lap we've taken thus far, some things are yet to change. Most of our work will be done last minute. Somehow, the closest bathroom deal on campus has
always been closed. and I still have a peanut butter and jelly every day at school for lunch. But the unchanging nature of those parts of the race aren't what keep us going. We're motivated by overcoming the unexpected. We're eager to see what our next turn will be. And as we head into this next lap of our lives, the track will have changed into something we're unfamiliar with. Another journey will unfold and our pit crews will be filled with friends new and friends old. So, when you feel like you're running out of gas and you can't seem to overtake the car in front of you, remember to paraphrase the great Lightning McQueen, it's not only about thinking you can, but also about thinking never thinking you can't. In a race, it's just as important to look
behind you as it is in front. But for us, its purpose is not to avoid being passed, but rather to appreciate how far we've come. We should look back with gratitude for those who've helped us come so far. Our parents for picking out our outfits before we knew it was good for us. Our teachers for doing a good job that's not always given its student merit. And the landscapers for bringing an end to the flood on campus freshman year. We should look in the rear view this evening with our pride being tempered by humility. Because truth be told, none of us would be here tonight if we were on our own. For me, I'd be stuck in the Taco Bell parking lot after locking my keys in the car for the second time in a
week. And now in our 13th year, as we approach this finish line, that checkered flag remains absent. For each of us, this is one of the most exciting things we are yet to accomplish. But more remains ahead. So whether you spent this school year as a part of a slow pitch softball team, >> you did your best to not let senioritis get to you or you rep Dorado Den at every game, do not let the lack of a flag man discourage you. Be proud, be excited, and at least pretend to be inspired by a word by my words to you this evening. And finally, to our biggest fans cheering us on as we cross this finish line, thank you. [applause] >> Thank you, Izzy. I would now like to ask our student body president to
come to the stage, Carter Dupo. >> [cheering and applause] >> It looks like Yep. This is you. The wind. >> Good evening everyone. My name is Carter Ddepo and I'm so grateful to get to speak to you tonight for the very last time as your student body president. I would like to thank my parents, my brother and sister, my friends, and of course my teachers who have done nothing but support and believe in me. As we sit here tonight, we are celebrating all of our hard work, but all dedication, but also the world of change we are about to experience in three months. Instead of buying school supplies and comparing our schedules to see what teachers we have, we will be spread out across the state, country, and world beginning our next journey. I would
like each of you to take a moment and reflect on your time here at CDO. Think about the people, moments, and things that shaped you, inspired you, motivated you, and gave you hope to keep going during your toughest times. Those are your eeky guy. Eekyu is a Japanese concept meaning purpose in life. [snorts] An eeky is supposed to be something that gives you hope and motivates you. In simple terms, it's your reason for waking up each morning. It may even change daytoday. So often we are focused on attaching purpose to big things such as a career or a college major. But Eeky Guy teaches us that small things like eating lunch with friends, dressing up for football games, taking Instagram photos for prom, or listening to music each morning on the drive to school can
give us hope and motivate us to continue on our paths. I know that is what my eeky guy have done for me. They have helped me realize that so many of my hopes for not just me, but all of us. I would like to take these last moments to share those. Class of 2026, I hope you go to college, trade school, or into the workforce and begin following your dreams. I hope you keep close to you those who have helped you grow throughout this stage in your life. I hope you don't let the actions of others dictate what you do and how you do it. I hope you never allow yourself to lose compassion and empathy. I hope you succeed as often as you can, but I hope when you fail, you pick yourself back
up. I hope when life gets heavy, you allow others to help you carry it. And Dorado, most of all, I hope you leave here tonight proud of the mountains you've climbed while getting through high school. And that you are as proud as I am to have been a Dorado. I'd like to say goodbye by using my eeky guy for tonight, Hannah Montana. She once said, "This happy ending is the start of all our dreams, and I know your heart is with me. We might be apart, but I hope you always know you'll be with me wherever I go. Thank you for making high school something worth crying and reminiscing about. I'm really honored to have been your student body president. For the last time, have a great day and remember, it's great to be a
Dorado. [applause] I would now like for our senior class saludiatoran to come to the stage to address her fellow classmates. Piper Casey. [cheering and applause] Hello, class of 2026. I'm Piper Casey, and it's my honor to be speaking up here tonight as your saludiatoran. Before I begin, I would like to thank the teachers, staff, friends, and family who helped all of us get here tonight. And personally, thank you to my dogs, parents, my older brother, and my friends who are the reasons I have laughed more than I have cried, but are also the reasons I will be crying tonight. I love you guys. Around a month ago, one of my best friends and I were saying goodbye at the end of my driveway. And while standing there, we witnessed something truly spectacular. A bright yellow
and orange light erupted across the night sky above us. A shooting star. I turned to her and yelled, "Make a wish." But that feels a bit silly in retrospect considering my wish was standing right beside me. And that's what I want to emphasize tonight. There have been and there will be many chapters of your life. You will go places you've never been and have new experiences you never imagined. They will be beautiful and chaotic and confusing and profound. High school was one of those experiences. Your most recent shooting star. It appeared almost out of the blue. It sparkled and burned. It was beautiful and chaotic. And then just as suddenly as it came, it was gone. But it granted us one of the best wishes. Friendship. the people who stood beside us while we watched
it go by. So, while I hope you see the most stunning places and have the grandest experiences, my true hope for you is that along the way you meet the people who will stand by you through the ugly. Those who call to just see how you're doing. Those who make light out of horrible situations, but hug you really tight when it still sucks. Those who will dance it out with you. And those who will wish on you when they see a shooting star. Because experiences begin and end in the blink of an eye. It's the memories that last in the people you share them with. Congratulations, class of 2026. Thanks for the memories. >> [applause] >> And now I would like to call up our validictorian, Anukica Peterson. [applause] Good evening, faculty, family, friends, and
most importantly, the class of 2026. Growing up, I think many of us believed life would begin at some perfect moment, a point where everything made sense and our lives finally felt put together. But standing here now, I don't think that's truly the case. On my drive to CDO, I often listened to Noah Khan and one lyric from his song Young Blood resonated with me. Start your life in the middle of the jungle. A jungle feels like a more accurate description of where we are right now. Not standing before a neatly mapped future, but in the middle of something uncertain with only the next step ahead. In getting here tonight, we've already taken many memorable steps. learning that the steps that shape us the most aren't the easy ones. They're the ones where things don't quite
go the way we expected, forcing us to adjust, try again, or keep showing up when quitting would have been easier. And over time, that adds up. These actions turn doubt into confidence, effort into progress, and small repeated decisions become the reality of who we are. And graduating isn't just a milestone. It's evidence of everything to it took to get us here. The late nights and early mornings, the failed tests and endless test corrections, the teachers who pushed us, and the loved ones who believed in us. Most importantly, it showed the way we used the time we were given. Because that's what it comes down to, time. It moved whether we noticed it or not, and it's going to keep moving. So, what matters now isn't waiting for the perfect moment. It's recognizing that moments don't
wait. It's easy to think we'll have time later to try, to risk, to begin. But later is never guaranteed. And someday it's just time passing without us in it. Instead, we start. We start even when it's uncomfortable. We start even when it's unclear. We start before we feel completely ready. And when things don't go the way we hoped, we don't fall back to the beginning. We move forward with more than we had before, with experience, with resilience, and with a better understanding of who we are. So, class of 2026, start even if it feels like you're in the middle of the jungle. [applause] And now, please welcome Amphitheater governing board president, Miss Vicky Cox Golder. >> [applause] >> Good evening, class of 2026. This is a big moment. The future you have been contemplating over
the past few months, maybe even seven, even years, and is probably starting to feel very real right now. What comes next? What will you do? What kind of world is your generation going to inherit and build upon? You are living in a time where change is happening faster than ever, especially when it comes to technology. When you were freshman, everyone was talking about Snapchat and Tic Tac. Tik Tok. [laughter] You can tell I'm not part of that generation. Now, so much of the conversation around technology has shifted to artificial intelligence, already changing so much about how we work and live. Some people find the development of AI exciting, while others find it unsettling. That's to be expected when something so powerful is introduced into our lives. some people. But tonight, I want to remind you
that you already possess your own powerful AI, ampi intelligence. It can be downloaded, coded, generated, or replicated by a machine. Your amphitheater intelligence is built through years of learning from teachers who challenged you, playmates who shaped you, coaches who pushed you, and experiences that helped you grow. It was built through the values of the promise of a graduate through thinking, discussing, questioning, creating, struggling, and eventually succeeding. Your amphitheater intelligence is built on how you learned to keep going when things became difficult. Remember, class of 2026, you leave here with more than data and knowledge. You leave here with judgment, resilience, creativity, and humanity. And there is nothing artificial about that. On behalf of the Amphitheater governing board, congratulations class of 2026. We are proud of you and excited for your future. You are the pride
of Afi. [applause] Thank you, Miss Coxolder. I would now like to invite our superintendent, Mr. Todd Jagger, to address the class of 2026. Thank you, Principal Boule. Well, good evening members of the governing board, tireless educators, distinguished guests, [music] the families who have sacrificed so much to reach this day, but most importantly, the Dorado class of 2026. >> [cheering] [applause] >> When I sat down to think about what I wanted to say to you tonight as you launch your lives as adults and as a father of three myself, I found my mind wandering back to the very end of a book that I'm guessing most of you have not read in quite a while, but it's a book that I read to my children. aa Milner's The House at Pooh Corner. Most of us recognize
Winnie the Pooh as a symbol of early childhood, of simple days and honeypotss, and of friendship and adventure. But I was reminded most of the very last chapter of that book, which I think is actually written for a moment exactly like this one. It describes the day Christopher Robin had to leave the 100 Acre Wood and in a sense say goodbye to his childhood. He is growing up and he has to go away to school to begin the serious part of life. Before he goes, he takes one last walk to a place called Gallion's Lap with the one who has been his constant companion, Pooh Bear. For the last several years, Amphitheater Unified School District and this school have been your version of that 100 acre wood. This has been a place of safety, of
discovery, and of expeditions with friends. But today, the serious world is calling your name. And like Christopher Robin, you are standing at the edge of the trees, looking out at a horizon that is as vast as it is unknown. In that final scene of Milliey's book, there's a poignant tension. Christopher Robin is learning about weighty things like mathematical factors and the kings of England. And he realizes he can't just stay in the forest and do nothing anymore. And as he looks at his old bear, he asks Pooh a heart-wrenching question. Pooh. Whatever happens, you will understand, won't you? I suspect that many of you feel that same tension today. You're excited to leave, to start your careers, or to head off to universities, the military, or trade training, and to finally have the autonomy you've
craved. But there is also a part of you that wonders if you are leaving the best part of yourself behind in these hallways. So I want to tell you today that you're not leaving anything behind you. You're carrying it with you. Christopher Robin gave Puh a mandate that has become one of the most famous pieces of advice in literature and I give it to you now as your superintendent. Always remember, you are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think. Class of 2026, those aren't just sweet words from a story book about a little boy and his bear. They are a description of who you have become and who you are in this very moment at the edge of the forest. You have navigated a world that changed beneath your
feet. You've tackled rigorous academics, stood up for what you believe in, and reached this finish line with a resilience that proves you are ready for whatever lies beyond this forest. There is, of course, another phrase that is often invoked in graduation speeches. This one is found in the Bible, First Corinthians. When I was a child, I spake as a child. I understood as as a child and I thought as a child but when I became a man or a woman I put away childish things. That quote probably perfectly captures the pressure you now feel to grow up and indeed you have to do that. However, as you move into the world of mathematical formulas and grown-up responsibilities that worried Christopher Robin, I have an urgent request of you. Do not lose your sense of play.
In Mil's story, the tragedy isn't that Christopher Robin grows up. It's the fear that he will become so busy being important that he forgets how to be joyful. The world will try to convince you that adulthood is a synonym for joylessness. It will tell you that there's no time for the silly old bear parts of you and your spirit. But I want you to look at the most successful people in the world. The innovators, the healers, the great leaders. They are almost always the people who kept their sense of wonder. They are the ones who can still laugh at themselves and find magic in an ordinary Tuesday afternoon. So as you go out to change the world and you will change it, keep a little bit of the 100 acre wood, this 100 acre wood
in your pocket. Keep your curiosity. Keep your ability to imagine things that aren't there yet. Never become so educated that you lose your sense of awe and always strive to remember the friends who are sitting around you today. Mil ends his Winnie the Pooh collection with what I think is one of the most beautiful and sweetest sentences in all of English literature. It goes like this. But wherever they go and whatever happens to them on the way in that enchanted place on the top of the forest, a little boy and his bear will always be playing. Your time in the amphitheater district and here at CDIO is becoming a memory. But that doesn't make it any less real. The versions of you that grew up here. The version that struggled with that math test. The
version that cheered in the stands. The version that walked down the hallway and laughed with friends until it hurt. Those versions of you will always be here. They are the foundation of the adults you are becoming. So hold fast to the friendships you forged in this place. They are your constant companions in a world that can sometimes feel cold or indifferent. The people who knew you when you were still a young cub are the ones who will help you remember who you truly are. And one other thing to remember and one other ask [music] from me please is that you will never forget that you will always be someone's child. Not all that long ago, the people in these stands looking down at you tonight on the field here once looked down on you as
you crawled along the floor or as you sat in their laps with your very first books, perhaps even Winnie the Pooh. And they dreamt of this very moment. Ever since then, they have lived their entire lives to ensure this moment would happen in yours. So when your mom and dad, grandma and grandpa, and your other family and friends gather with you here on the field in just a little while, please be patient and let them dwell in this moment with you as long as they might like. and let them take each and every picture they want to and don't complain about it. [cheering] See, [screaming] but but most of all most of all, let them hug you until they decide to let go because that's what they're doing. and it's so hard for them to
let them drink in the memories of all the moments you were their child. And let them gush with pride as they continue to imagine all the things you will do. Class of 2026, the sun is high and the path is wide open. Go forth with the bravery, strength, and intelligence we know you possess. But every once in a while, find a quiet spot, look back at the forest you leave here, and remember how to play. Congratulations to each and every one of you. [applause] Thank you, Mr. Jagger. This next part of the evening is a very special time for everyone here and we want to make sure that all family members have a chance to see and hear their graduate being announced. So, we're asking all of you to please remain seated until the last
graduate's name is read. Superintendent Jagger, if you will again, please join me at the podium for the presentation of the Canyon Deloro High School class of 2026. Superintendent Jagger, I have the honor to present and recommend the assembled diploma candidates of the 2026 senior class of Canyon Deloro High School. Dorado, will you please stand?
