004goes it takes a village and i have been blessed with an amazing staff here at cdo our assistant principals mr marco dominguez mr don enright and miss amanda majelli have been supporting and cheering for this graduating class during this crazy school year and they are responsible for maintaining all of the ins and outs of what it takes to make a school run and our counselors teachers and support staff continue to be some of the most dedicated and caring people i have ever had the honor to work with please join me in thanking all of them for their dedication and commitment to cdo and finally later this evening most of you graduates will participate in project grad i would like to thank the leadership and volunteers who work countless hours to make this event possible each
005year we have an amazing group of parents in the cdo community who work tirelessly to pull this evening together i would also like to thank the town of oro valley the oro valley police department and all of the corporate and private donors for their financial support of this incredibly important event designed to keep our graduates safe tonight please join me in a round of applause to show our appreciation now to our graduates tonight is an opportunity to celebrate the accomplishments of the 375 members of the class of 2021. they have been accepted to over 111 different colleges universities military and vocational schools from all across the country so far the reported four-year scholarship total came to just around 6.4 million dollars with all other scholarships coming in at an additional 1.7 million dollars we also
006had close to 1 million dollars in athletic and private scholarships this brings the grand total of scholarship money for the class of 2021 to approximately 9.1 million dollars some of the scholarship and achievement highlights for the class of 2021 include three national merit finalists four national merit commended students one national hispanic scholar one air force rotc scholarship 18 athletic scholarships and 15 students entering the military after graduation as i began to reflect on the class of 2021 i quickly realized that i have a very special bond with all of you that you probably don't even realize you came to cdo for the first time in the same year that i did and now we've spent these last four years together learning and growing you are my first four-year graduating class and these last four years
007have been filled with adventure i asked all of you to share some of your memories from your time as a dorado in these last four years and also some advice for your peers victoria medina shared that going from getting lost my freshman year to knowing the campus like the back of my hand is and being able to help incoming freshmen was pretty great dylan moore shared that his favorite part of being a dorado is looking at those amazing mountains in the morning nothing beats that gabriel lowry's favorite memory is getting snowed on at band practice leave it to reggie romo to share that her best memory at cdo was definitely when miss boulay fell at the assembly during the sack race hashtag rookie mistake jojo taylor and many others shared that some of their best
008times at cdo were cheering at the assemblies and being a part of the dorado den during sports seasons bendrel failed said that being involved in the automotive program and having mr tarbet give us small projects to work on always made the class feel less like a classroom and more like a second home and finally hannah barney shared that every time we had an assembly all the kids no matter what grade always cheered on whoever was performing for one second we were no longer students and just kids having fun there were so many more that i could have shared but i also wanted to share some words of wisdom from your fellow classmates as well nadia escobado says don't worry you are the sun you will rise again quinn aquaro said explore experience the world with
009your own two eyes don't settle joseph zaragoza recommends that you do your best and try not to stress over not knowing things except that you are growing learning as a person and learn from mistakes and continue forward kailyn otterson said don't make your life goals maybes or what ifs write them down and say i will and it will happen and finally andreas silva castellano shared there are so many things to do and so many people to meet find who and what makes you happy and run with it as i then reflected on what i could share with this graduating class i quickly realized you have all made history because you have now been through an entire school year like no other person on this planet at any time you went through your entire senior year
010of high school during a pandemic this is a time in all of our histories where we will look back and realize that our livelihoods were challenged we were challenged to find new ways of learning new ways of communicating new ways of socializing and new ways of surviving you all have faced this difficult year full of changes head on and you find yourselves here tonight because you've risen above it all this ultimately is exactly where i landed when i thought about all of you i landed on the word levitate when you levitate you rise above soar above leave your footing below in defiance of gravity the thing that will always pull us down i think that gravity came in the form of covet this year and the class of 2021 you find yourselves tonight levitating above
011it all so i thought with as near and dear as this class is to me as a principal what could i give them tonight that i wasn't able to give to them during the school year so i asked the entire senior class to stand together for a moment they're nervous already it struck me that you all have not had the chance to dance together as a class this entire school year and in fact likely not since early in your junior year i know you might be nervous our senior formal gala was magnificent and i know that many of you longed for that senior dance so i'm giving you your senior dance right now i thought it appropriate that your song to jam out to together this evening if only for a minute was levitating by

014finish college and start working and then i was dying to marry and have children and then i was dying for my children to go old enough for school so i could return to work and then i was dying to retire and now i am dying and suddenly i realize i forgot how to live so if you take anything away from these past four years please take this get out there and live get your hair wet in the pool find a career you're passionate about invest in that stock get out on that dance floor book that flight ask that person on a date tell people that you love them we get so wrapped up in our own heads we forget that we only have one chance in this lifetime so take advantage of it i'd like

019to say our goodbyes to those with whom we have spent countless hours in the past four years of our lives yet it seems that the time has passed so quickly i still remember when the upperclassmen tried to convince us at the freshman orientation that quote your four years will pass in the blink of an eye i am both humbled and honored to stand here tonight to be recognized among so many other inspiring talented and motivated individuals i know you all don't want to hear any more about the unique times you live in but it must be said that all of us have persevered through this challenge juggling school work extracurriculars and much more with evidence success throughout our last four years at cdo we have learned many life lessons i now desire to share a
020few of these with my fellow graduates number one is to always seek challenge to me personal growth in any sense academically or athletically stems from the ability to adapt quickly to new situations and overcome challenges with a goal in mind this is albeit easier said than done of course but in a nutshell don't make life easy or you'll never grow number two is to explore your passions as cliche as this sounds it's cliche for a reason because it's crucially important pursue what you love and happiness will come to you whether you're going to college or entering the workforce it's time to build a path for the future number three is to think creatively about the world and how about how different people have different viewpoints in life diversity must be embraced and differences in perspective
021are at the crux of understanding the human condition and how we must move forward in life i think that truly embracing these three concepts however simple or complex they may be has shaped me into the person that i am today and i hope that you will also embrace them in the years to come on behalf of the graduates here tonight i would also like to personally extend our apprecia appreciation to the parents teachers counselors and staff that have made our education possible the amount of motivation and care that they have invested in us is unprecedented and the glow of their endeavors eminently shines through the fissures of this year for this reason i am confident that every graduate here tonight is adequately prepared to take on the future so tonight we shall celebrate not only
