So, we're going to do employees first. Okay. Madame President, members of the board, Dr. Papalardo, members of the community, colleagues, families. I'm honored to present our volunteer, classified, and certified staff of the month. And I we received a lot of feedback from our staff because all of these people were um were chosen by

007our staff. Um so I can't mention everything, but I would like to start with our volunteer of the month, Shannon Williams. I've gotten to know Shannon a bit personally and she's a strong person with a very good heart. She is part of our small but mighty a whole whopping two members uh PTO and she's also a member of my site council. In additioning to helping um here, she's also a Girl Scout leader as well. Um and Myth Smith had something to say about you. So Myth Smith said Shannon is amazing. She's always willing to go above and beyond. She offers to come in before school, stay after, help with student council activities and teaching our students how to track sales, etc. She's always donating to our school and classroom like the food drive, the candy

008drive, the paper drive. She also helps with with organizing any student council activity that we are not sure on. We are so grateful for her. Congratulations, Shannon. DVES is lucky to have you as our volunteer of the month. Our classified staff member of the month is our building manager, Michelle Morrow. [applause] She has been a fixture at Desert Vista for over 25 years and knows all of the secrets. I feel like I learn something new every time I talk to her. And if you need to know anything about that school, she is the one to go to. Here are some of the things that staff shared about her. Michelle consistently goes above and beyond to support the DBEES community. She cares deeply about maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming campus. Work that directly contributes to

009creating spaces where students can grow, learn, and thrive. Another staff member said, "Every day, Michelle checks in with the health office to ask what may be needed to better serve the students who rely on those services. When a request is placed, she ensures it is handled promptly and thoroughly. Her reliability and proactive nature make a tremendous difference in our daily operations. And finally, Michelle is a dedicated and hardworking member of our school community, consistently striving to make our school the best it can be. She takes great pride in her work and is always willing to lend a helping hand. Michelle has gone above and beyond to support not only the person that wrote this, but everyone at our school. Her thoughtful decorations bring warmth and energy to our environment, brightening our school in meaningful ways.

010She will be greatly missed upon her retirement, and her contributions will be remembered and appreciated. Congratulations, Michelle. [applause] All right. Finally, I would like to recognize Liz Barentine as our certified staff member of the month. So Liz is half of our dynamic first grade team. Liz is patient and positive with all of her students. She has students track their progress in their BB binders, which means bring everything every day, which also serves as a communication tool with her family so they can assist with learning site words, math facts, reading fluency, and comprehension. One staff member said, "Liz is a teacher that is concerned about her student learning and growth. She tries to do anything possible to help her students. Another staff member said, "Mrs. Barentine consistently demonstrates exceptional dedication to her students. She diligently collects

011and collaborates closely with teams and implements both self-initiated and recommended strategies to support student success. Her patient, kindness, and genuine care for her students are evident in everything she does. Putting kids first is her mission, and it truly shows in her daily practice. And of course, I needed to end with what her teammate Tara said about her. She said, "Liz is a reliable, hard-working, and helpful teammate, one in which I have had the pleasure of working with for the past seven years. She cares about her students, and it shows in the way she interacts with them, plans lessons and activities to meet their needs and interests, and has fun with her students each day. Congratulations to Liz on an award that is welld deserved. Congratulations. All right. And since I'm already up here, I'm going

012to go ahead with my students of the month as well. And it happens to be that I'm recognizing two of Desert Vista's first grade students, which we have our entire first grade team. So, that worked out well for us tonight. Our first Mustang, I saw her. Where'd she come in? Savannah Norton. [applause] >> I knew she was there. She was just hiding in the crowd. All right. So, Savannah is a kind and trustworthy first grader at Desert Vista. When getting to know Savannah, she stated she loves math because she gets an A+ all of the time. Recess is another favorite subject, and Savannah gets to play on the monkey bars. She loves Desert Vista because of all the friends she has, and half of her class are her friends. We all strive for that, don't

013we? At home, you will find Savannah playing with her three-year-old brother or playing with Barbies. and she is lucky enough to have three ballerina Barbies. >> Miss Barentine, her teacher, says, "Savannah is truly an amazing student. She always works hard in first grade, strives for excellence, and is always participating throughout the day." Savannah is also an outstanding friend. She loves to help others, be a role model to others, and assist her teacher whenever needed. Every classroom should have a student like Savannah. Congratulations, Savannah. Keep up the fantastic work. And our second incredible Mustang. I lost him there in the crowd again. Where is Kyrie? There's Kyrie. Come on, Kyrie. Kyrie, Tran, come on up. If I remember correctly, Kyrie was here last year, too. We did this last year, didn't we? Yes. So, if you

014were here last year, he is a repeat offender. In a good way. So, Kyrie is a kind and quiet student. Trying to talk to him. You are not going to get much information from him. He loves math because he gets to write numbers. His favorite thing about Desert Vista is Miss Tardiff who had Kyrie in in kindergarten. At home, you find Kyrie playing Roblox with his brother. And we couldn't get much out of him because he's a very man of few words. Very few words for him. Miss Williams, his teacher, says, "I am proud to recognize Kyrie as a student deserving to be named as Desert Vista Student of the Month." Oh, now we've got the giggles. [laughter] >> I got the one now, too. >> Kyrie demonstrates all the qualities that make him a

015success. I can't look at him. Okay, I can't look at him. Make him a successful student and the characteristics that make him a good friend. >> Kyrie is hardworking, stays engaged in his learning, and always tries his best. He is a kind and respectful friend to all of his peers. It is a pleasure to have Kyrie in my class, and I'm excited to watch him continue to be a leader at Desert Vista. We are proud to have both of these remarkable students as part of our Desert Vista family. Congratulations to you both. >> [applause] >> Now I would like to bring up Mr. Bitterman to introduce the academy students. >> Uh good evening school board Dr. Papalardo, family, friends, community members. Tonight we celebrate our December students of the month as we celebrate scholarship and

016virtue. Uh these students show curiosity, responsibility, and a true love of learning each day. They lead by example, work hard, and inspire others to grow. Our first one, second grader, Isabella Breton, the younger sister of my last month's recipient, is a second grader in Mrs. Rice's class. Isabella is always going above and beyond in everything she does at Superstition Mountain Classical Academy. She works hard each day to create a positive, joyful atmosphere for everyone around her, teachers and classmates alike. Isabella goes out of her way to make sure every student feels included, welcome, and valued in our classroom. She shows strong character by following our school virtues, demonstrating kindness, responsibility, and respect in all situations. Whether she is helping a classmate understand an assignment, participating enthusiastically in lessons, or encouraging her peers to do their

017best, Isabella shines as a true leader. Isabella is an absolute star of a student and amazing person. We're so proud of her um and how she represents our second grade class and our golden wing spirit. Boy, we got to get rid of those ones, huh? Max, come on up, buddy. Maxilliano Cortez Perez in our first grade class. [applause] >> Max is a first grader in Miss Johnson's class at the academy and shines every single day in our first grade classroom. He consistently shows kindness by helping friends, sharing materials, and using his encouraging words. Max demonstrates responsibility by always completing his work, keeping his desk neat, which I do not do, Max, so you're ahead of me, and following classroom routines with a positive attitude. Max works hard in everything he does, whether it's reading, math,

018or giving his best effort during centers and specials. Max is a wonderful role model who shows what it means to be respectful, caring, and ready to learn. Our classroom and school are better because of him. Great job, Max. And from four peaks, we get Miss Johnson. Come on up, Mrs. Johnson. Jackson, my sorry I had it right when I before I came up. >> Thank you. >> Good evening, Madame President, school board members, Dr. Propolo, colleagues, and community members and families. Um, our first student is not here tonight, but I'm still going to um talk about him because we have such wonderful things to say. Our first student from Fort Peaks in second grade in Mr. Burns class is Matias Leose. Mr. Burns says, "Matias is an excellent reader and highly motivated. He is incredibly

019generous and friendly and always strives to do his best with learning. He is an excellent classmate to his peers." When asked, "What do you like most of Four Pinks?" He said, "I like to get to do independent work. I love that we do math up to a hundred and learn high math. This challenges me and my dad and teacher are trying to get me ready for third grade." Mrs. Jackson says that Matias is a very polite and always greets every adult with a smile every single day. When asked, "What do you want to be when you grow up?" He said, "A YouTuber or a police officer. I want to be helpful to the world and continue on the legacy of my father, Charles Lose, who is a police officer. Our next student is Priscilla Judy.

020Priscilla is in Miss Davis's second grade class. Miss Davis says, "Priscilla is a hard worker who volunteers her free learning early finisher time to tutor struggling classmates. She never fails to approach her learning with a smile and a cand do attitude and is a joy to have in class." Mrs. Kelly mentioned that Priscilla is so kind. She is the first to help a peer in need. When asked, "What do you like most about Four Peaks?" She said, "I like the teachers and if we get in trouble, they take it easy on us because they want to get to the truth and to help build connections with us." And I have to tell you, she's never ever been in trouble. So, we loved her answer. It made us all smile. When asked, "What do you want

021to be when you grow up?" She said, "I don't know. I have a lot of dreams, and I can't decide on only one." >> Thank you. We're super proud of you. And I will um have uh her betrayal come [applause] up, Mr. Smith. Good evening, Madame President, members of the board, Dr. Pepalardo, and community members. I am Pat Smith, a proud principal of Peralta Trail, and thank you so much for allowing me to present two additional amazing Bobcats this evening. last governing board meeting, we were for lack of a better word, trapped >> at Peralta Trail with uh 60 being closed down and we weren't able to make it. So, it is my honor to first present to you our November students of the month and I would like to invite up second grader from

022Mrs. Aert's class, Isidora Bagby. Izzy is such a sweet girl and this is what her teacher who is actually here in the audience audience shared with me. Izzy is such a sweet girl. I know I can count on her to do her best and to help others if they are struggling. She has maintained all A's so far this year and is always eager to learn more. Izzy shows what it means to be an academic role model because she does her best work on every assignment and asks for help if she needs it. As her principal, I have noticed what a great citizen Izzy is on campus. Through her words and actions, she is caring, respectful, and supportive to those around her. Recently, when I spoke with her, she shared with me that what she loves

023about second grade is that her friends are very kind and when she grows up, she wants to be a doctor or a physical therapist because she wants to help people. I am so impressed by Izzy and how she is always so caring towards others and how she sets goals. This shows in her determination at school to always do and be her best. We are so proud of you, Izzy. Keep up the great work and congratulations on being student of the month for Peralta Trail Elementary. >> [applause] >> Our next scholar I'd like to bring up from second grade, Miss Craig's class, is Ronan Durham. [applause] Ronin is an amazing young man. He always gets recognized um for awards and so I am so proud and honored to be able to present to him this award.

024and his teacher shared with me that Ronin works hard in all areas of academics and continues to amaze me with his motivation to learn new things and take on new challenges. He never gives up on any task given to him that pushes his thinking and takes him on another learning opportunity. He is thoughtful, respectful, and always has a kind word for his peers and is willing to step up and help guide them if they are struggling with a concept. As his principal, I have had the privilege of many conversations with Ronan and experience his wit and intellectual thinking about things. He truly is kind and it is important to him that others show this as well. He shared with me that when he what he loves about second grade is that everyone is considerate in

025his classroom. When I asked him if he thought about what he wanted to be when he grows up, he said, "Are you ready for this?" Good question. I'm going to put a lot of thought into it and I'll get back with you on that. Ronan is genuine and such a pleasure to have Peralta Trail and is very deserving of this honor. Keep working hard, Ronin. Congratulations on being student of the month. [applause] For our December student of the month, I would like to first bring up our scholar, Caleb Hollyy. [applause] Caleb is in first grade and he's in Mrs. Lavendusky's class. And she shared with me that Caleb is a student who tries hard in all that he does. He is often hard on himself and is a bit of a perfectionist, but that drive

026pushes him to keep learning and trying hard. Caleb is an honorable student and has begun working on his multiplication facts he corrected to me me today. It's division. Um, as a first grader, I am so proud of you, Caleb, is what Mrs. Lavenduski shared and cannot wait to see how much more you grow this year. As his principal, I appreciate the way he is always a focused scholar when I visit his class. He is always eager to share with me what he is learning. His thoughts and the way he questions things is amazing for being only a first grade student. I asked him what he loves about school and he said, "I love doing math after science. Math is my favorite subject. I don't really know why. It is just that I like it when

027a math when math problems are challenging for me. He noticed a NASA sticker and I wanted to share this with you. It was on my wall and he went into a full conversation about where it came from and what he knows about NASA. As he walked away, he had to have the last word in our conversation and he turned around and said, "Hey, I know what 64 / 8 is. And so, of course, I said, "Well, what is it?" He replied with a grid, "8." Like, I should know that. As you can see, Caleb is a wonderful young man who is eager to set learning goals and accomplish them. Way to go, Caleb. And congratulations on your award. Our next scholar is Miss Harley. Come on up, Harley. >> [applause] >> Harley is also in

028first grade and she's in Mrs. Longacres's class. And her teacher shares with me that Harley is a hard worker who perseveres and does her very best in everything she does. She works so hard on mastering her math facts and her effort in reading is outstanding. I have enjoyed watching her grow so far this year and I cannot wait to see more. You are a rock star, Miss Harley, and I am proud of you. For me, kind, caring, and respectful are three of many words I could use to describe Harley. She has a smile that lights up a room and is such a great friend to those around her. At Peralta Trail, we have a kindness focus each month, and Harley is the role model for all of them. Last month was be considerate, and this

029month it is be respectful. Thank you to Harley's family for raising such an amazing young lady who not only demonstrates every day what it means to be these things, but to be one of our top citizens of kindness and our grow philosophy. When I spoke to her to find out what she loves the most about school, she shared, "I like doing math. It's my favorite because reading is a little hard, but math is what I like best and I'm good at it." I asked her what she loves about math since she is one of the best mathematicians. Harley smiled and said without skipping a beat that subtraction is her absolute favorite because she is so good at it. I am so proud of you, Harley, and excited to see the amazing things you will continue

030to do in your classroom and at Peralta Trail. Keep shining bright. You're an amazing young lady and I know you are going to continue to do great things. Congratulations to you on your award of being one of our students of the month. It is definitely welld deserved. Congratulations to all four of our Bobcats. [applause] At this time, I would like to bring up Mr. Paperman, who is the principal at Cactus Canyon Junior High. >> [applause] >> Uh so this month um our first oh sorry madam president school burn Dr. Papalo getting ahead of myself um families um students and uh community and colleagues um our first student is Everett Walker. Ever is always walks into his classroom with a smile, including positivity to those around him. He always has in his education and works diligently

031to succeed in all of his classes. As a student who amplifies school expectations with pride, Everett constantly demonstrates a strong work ethic and a positive attitude toward learning. He is always prepared, actively participates in class discussions, and serves as a role model for his peers. His dedications to academic excellence is inspiring. Additionally, Everett exhibits exceptional leadership qualities by simply being a responsible and reliable student. He consistently uh completes tasks on time, making him a deserving recipient of the student of the month. [applause] Our second student of the month um is Riley Felix. She's not able to be here tonight, so we're going to uh present for next month. Um, up next we have Miss Skin, principal over at AJ High School. >> Good evening, Madame President, governing board, Dr. Papalardo, community members. Thank you for

032being here tonight. My first student I'm thrilled to introduce to you is Sophia Labado. [applause] I thought I saw her come in, but I don't see her. So, um, just so that you know, her favorite subject is culinary. She bakes a lot out of school. She never feeds me, though. Um, she is inspired with the thought of succeeding in the future. It inspires her to do better and work hard. And her favorite school memory so far is eating lunch with her buds. One goal for her this year is to eat more food. And guess what she wants to do when she grows up? She wants to be a bakery or own a bakery or be a chef. And just super fast, Sophia is an exceptional student who consistently demonstrates a strong work work ethic, positive

033attitude, and a genuine curiosity for learning. That's from Mr. Worley. Mr. Walker says, "Sophia works exceptionally well with peers and consistently brings a positive, engaging attitude to class each day. It is an honor to be Sophia's principal. I'm sorry she couldn't be here this evening. Um, congratulations, Sophia. All right, our next student, Caleb [applause] Van Winkle. There he is. All right, let me tell you a little bit about this guy here. Caleb's favorite subject and school is history because it feels like the most inclusive subject. His hobby or activity he enjoys outside of school is playing basketball and baseball. Someone who inspires you. That is his dad because he's always pushed him to do his best. Favorite school memory so far is balancing school and sports. And I love that that's a favorite memory. That's

034a lot of work. So, one goal for this year is to stay above a 3.5 GPA. and when he grows up, he would like to be an athletic trainer. Someone who had a positive impact on him is Mr. Stapleton, his history teacher. And then advice he'd give other students to be successful would be always push yourself. So, real quick, Mr. Roiri says, "Caleb is a thoughtful, hard-working student who consistently puts effort into his assignments." Miss McCain says, "Caleb is a friendly, intelligent young man who strives to do his best each day." Mr. King says, "An exemplary model for underassmen to follow." And lastly, Miss Allen says, "Caleb is outstanding young man and role model." Congratulations, Caleb. We're thrilled to have you at the high school. Um, all right. I'm proud of you. [applause] >> Picture

035time. I lost him. I don't smile. Stay there. Thank you. [applause] >> Congratulations. We're going to take a 10-minute break. >> Oh, already. We always after on to the consent agenda. Would somebody like to make a motion on the consent agenda? >> Madam President, >> do you have food in your mouth? Can [laughter] >> Madam President like to make a motion to approve the consent agenda as presented? >> We have a motion. Would somebody like to second? >> Second. >> Mrs. Ross seconds. Mrs. Ross. >> Yes. Mrs. Garcia, >> yes. >> Mrs. Lean, >> yes. >> And I'm yes, that motion passes four to zero. On to public comments. There is none. On to action items. 5.1. Approval of the fixed asset disposal report. And approval of this fixed asset disposal report identifies district assets

036that are no longer operational. Um, they're obsolete or beyond economic repair. All items are Sky, Jack, and Beline have been reviewed and verified in accordance with the district procedures. Board approval is requested to formally authorize the disposal of these assets and remove them from the district inventory. Somebody like to make a motion on the fixed asset. >> Madame President, like to make a motion to approve the disposal of the fixed assets >> report. Report. >> Report. >> We have a [laughter] >> That's probably >> We've been on the board too long together. We finished each other sentences. >> Word. >> Yeah, [laughter] it is kind of an important word. >> Yeah. >> Okay. We have a motion. Mrs. Ross seconds. Mrs. Ross. >> Mrs. Ross. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Garcia. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Lean.

037>> Yes. >> And I'm Yes. That motion passes for zero. On to 5.2. Approval of the memorandum of understanding with Boys and Girls Club of the Valley. Somebody like to make a motion on the memorandum. >> Madam President, like to make a motion to approve the memorandum of the understanding with Boys and Girls Club of the Valley. >> We have a motion like to second. >> Second. >> Mrs. Ross seconds. Mrs. Ross. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Garcia. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Wayne. >> Yes. >> And on yes, a motion passes 4 to zero. On to 5.3. Approval of the amended rental fee schedule. We discussed this in the work session. and the amended rental fee schedule updates district facility or rental guidelines to grant the superintendent the authority to set and adjust rental fees as

038needed. Um, this change allows for greater flexibility and timely decision- making in establishing appropriate rates. Board of approval is requested to adopt the amended schedule and authorize this delegation of authority to Dr. Papalardo. Um, any discussion or questions on that? >> I know. I know. >> No, I'm okay with that. Thank you. >> I think appropriate rates is the word I'm looking for. Okay. [laughter] >> No, I just I I just want to um just like I said at the work session, I'm entrusting the superintendent to be able to make sure that the fees are fair >> to help the feeder programs for our schools. >> And I think it'll give him leeway to make those adjustments because Some people help with certain things and so the rates can be adjusted accordingly. Somebody like to

039make a motion on the rental fee schedule. >> Madame President, I'd like to make a motion to approve the amended rental fee schedule as presented. >> We have a motion. Would somebody like to second? >> Second. >> Mrs. Ross second. Mrs. Ross. >> Yes. [laughter] >> Mrs. Garcia. >> Yes. Mrs. Lean. Yes. >> And yes, that motion passes four to zero. >> Okay. on to 5.4 approval of the spy glass company audit on our phone and internet in the amount of $37,53840. We discussed this at the work session. The district engaged Spy Glass Company to conduct an audit of phone and internet services. The audit identified cost savings opportunities and service efficiencies. So basically we are receiving this amount 37,000 a year due to their findings. So um would somebody like to make a motion

040to approve the spy glass audit? >> I just have one question just for clarification. >> Sure. >> So did we have in talking in our work session Dr. Papalardo did we did we have to spend money to do this audit? >> So [clears throat] great question. So what happens in the first year right this is the amount we pay >> and every sub subsequent year you will get you will not you will receive these savings or whatever the rate increase is okay so this year we're paying that amount of money to spy glass for finding the savings >> and the savings so what this amount is the savings that they found >> correct >> okay and that will just be an every year savings Right. >> Okay. And it could be more. >> It could

041be more because rates go up, right? >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> Somebody like to make a motion on the spy glass company audit. >> Madam President, I'd like to make a motion to approve the spy glass uh company audit on our phones and internet in the amount of $37,538.40. >> So like to second. >> Second. >> Mrs. Ross. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Garcia. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Lane. >> Yes. Yes, that motion passes four to zero. Okay, we [clears throat] are moving right along here. Okay, 5.5 approval of the governing board meetings and locations for fiscal year 2026. Um, Mrs. Williamson's not here to over this. We did discuss it in the work session. Any discussion? I have discussion. So, um, as we've noticed this year, I am unable to make it to all of

042the meetings. And also, if we are going to require our principles to be at this meetings, I think it would be best if they stay on their campuses as long as possible and make these meetings at a time where the principles don't have to be on campus and can can come afterward. Um, and so if if we could propose the work session meetings to be at 4:15 to ensure that I can be here and and the principles all can be here, I would appreciate that. >> Any other discussion on that? >> So I um just to catch you up because you weren't here. I um requested as you can see the November just for everybody that's wasn't there. I requested then >> November a meeting to be one which is November 10th and then December

0438th um we had already had it one meeting correct for >> Christmas back to back meetings >> but I didn't pay attention I wasn't I I didn't really pay attention to the times I just >> they're the standard times that we've had for all >> I just didn't I didn't bring up the times yeah so I didn't think about the times so I don't know >> yeah you didn't you didn't you don't you didn't have a conflict I I'm the one conflict. My only issue with that December 8th one is that's about my concert time and that's why I couldn't make it to this last work session because it was during during um concert season for me. So the December 8th one would be the only work session, but I missed a handful this year

044because I could not get off of work like I thought I was going to be able to. So, um I'm okay if we keep the December 8th at 2 and I'll do the best that I can and I I'll just read the minutes, but like with all the other ones, but my big thing is like the principles, like I know the lot of a lot of the principles would rather be on their campus versus being sitting here in in a in a work session meeting at that time. So, if we're going to require them to be at the work sessions, I think it should be after they're done with their schooling in case there's an emergency. Like if like with Peralta, like if we were in a work session, you know, would have had to

045excuse herself and go and try to help. But if if she's if the principles are on campus to to adhere to all of the the um emergencies that happen, um I think it just would be best if we we just do it after they're done with their time at school. >> Well, I I'm going to request that we just put this one the next session for discussion because Judy's not here >> and I feel like if we're going to change it, she should be apprised of it because in the work session, the majority was okay with the 2 o00. >> So, The only issue with that is we don't have anything scheduled here on out. >> Well, we can approve the to have the meeting the work session on the calendar for what it's scheduled

046to be. So, we can table the calendar but still approve having a work session for January. >> So, is that two o'clock? It would be the two o'clock until I mean we would have to keep it until we we vote to change it right >> if it if all board members are willing to do that but I don't feel comfortable without right >> Miss Williamson not being here and changing the time when she expected it to be 2:00. >> I understand that. >> So we would have to table the calendar and just motion to approve the January 13, 2026 work session date. And then from there we can do that. >> Checking my calendar. >> Okay. No, I'm good. >> Okay. Cammy, I want to do a motion. You want me to do it? >>
