mr botters yes ms campbell yes and i am a yes that motion passes five to zero and then madame president i motioned to approve the amendment as adopted second or amended excuse me can we go through that again yeah a motion to adopt the agenda as amended okay miss garcia yes mr consio yes mr bottis yes miss kimball yes and i am a yes that motion passes five to zero board meeting minutes not previously approved somebody like to make a motion on that madam president i move that the board meeting minutes as corrected be approved a second do we need to say the date to birth of the day august 9th of second miss garcia yes mr concious yes mr botters yes miss kimball yes and i am a yes that motion passes five to

zero okay item 2.1 governing board report does anyone have anything they want to report today i do what but it's long does anyone else want to go first i can go first okay first um so i'll just be very brief um i was able to meet with mr deloria at the junior high we were able to walk around and take a look at some of the the buildings there i was briefly able to see the kickstart to kindergarten program at tlc and it looks like it's running really well i know a lot of people were excited about that program and then just this last weekend i was at the asba delegate assembly and i'll talk more about that in a work session or retreat so okay since the last board meeting which was on 23

of august i uh visited peralta trails four peaks elementary desert view and then i visited smes with larry hill and spent about a good hour maybe hour and a half on over there looked at the condition of the facility the infrastructure there looks to be some major cleanup there will be some repair work needed but all in all it doesn't look like it's in too bad of shape also attended the east valley school board consortium dinner in mesa near the end of the dinner they gave their presentation there was discussion concerning some of the recent legislation that was passed by the state legislators there's several policy changes a lot of reinforcement of parental rights and in keeping with ars 1-602 and it looks like uh at our work session we're going to be needing to

look at making several policy changes at least at the school district level uh let's see i also did note that at the current time our football team is doing an outstanding job we're undefeated at 2-0 and we're having a big game coming this friday against combs that's all we've got so um on september 9th i was able to attend a pep assembly and i haven't gone to one of those in a really long time and that was really fun to see so i am grateful that i was invited to actually go to go watch them um i too went and visited the schools um this past month we went to all the different schools it seems that all the principals are doing a really great job and the kids are really back in the groove

of things so thank you for allowing us to come and visit i also attended the consortium at the east valley and that's always really good for us board members to go and kind of see what's happening out in the different districts um normally i apologize but this is um the governing report normally isn't this long but i feel like it's important for me to talk about this as a board member and so i apologize for the length of it being this long but um so mrs pat smith she's um she's been in an education for over 25 years and she's been a principal at desert vista for 11. she's now been named our student wellness coordinator for our district and her new role oversees and implements and it monitors the multi-tiered system for our support

for all of our schools on august 23rd we had a motivational inspirational guest speaker come and speak to the students his name was lance thonbold i think that's how am i pronouncing that right okay and he was a draft pick from the seattle mariners the mlb um and he's a motivational speaker he does a lot of inspiring for our students and some of the things that lance spoke about at our assembly was what you're doing is original everyone has value where are you going and what's your purpose success and values and changes and how you feel about yourself and i know we have students here that actually heard that inspirational speak and i think that um they felt it and they understand they understood what lance was saying whatever that may be to themselves um

i also recognize as a parent and a volunteer and as a board member that our students always were going through a lot and i feel like our kids need to be heard and i felt like they heard what lance was saying and so um finding their the worth as a as a mom as a board member as um a community advocate i felt blessed to be there because i felt it i felt what he was saying as a person and how i can do better as as a mom as a board member as a leader as an advocate for our community and for our district so many of our students they they have a lot of pressure and it's important for us to understand that and i think it's important for those students to know

that we care and that each individual one of our students are struggling in different ways but for us as teachers and principals and parents and volunteers in the board it's important for us to understand that it's not just about academics it's about how our students are thriving and it's so much more than that um so that being said i wanted to quote a couple of things that mrs smith actually said in the article and i want to read it because i don't want to misread what she's saying so it says over the years i've realized that it goes much deeper than academics for students growth and achievement we can forget we can't forget about the needs of the whole learner my belief is that in order for the students achievement to increase we must address

and build a system of support where all the students feel a sense of belonging and their students willingness wellness needs are being met the focus for our students wellness is about providing the opportunity the resource the tools and the connections for the students to be successful in their educational setting so this part i'm normally not this nervous to talk but it's emotional for me because this is the reason why i got on the board as a board member is really to be connected for the kids so last week i had the opportunity to meet a student who's struggling her parents aren't around she is really having a hard time getting through her senior year and i was able to spend an hour with her and talk with her about how we're going to get her

to graduation and how she's going to walk across that stage and and let her know like how she's feeling is not abnormal like we've all been there and so i think that um you know we talked and i hope that i made a difference in what i said to her um and i i think i'm asking the board and the teachers and the principals and everybody understand what our purpose is here sometimes i feel like we get wrapped up in things and we forget really what our purpose is and it's here for the students we're here for the students and we need to figure out how to create that happy health problem solving for for our students and our principals try to do a really good job on top of everything that they're doing they

try to shape these kids and they're dealing with so much more and for me as a parent going down to the schools and doing just mom things and paying my fees and doing the things that i need to be doing i see it and so i just want to commend the principals and the teachers and the staff and mrs wallace um and just ask the board as a whole to not forget why we're here you know we're here for a purpose and the number one reason why we're here is for our students and so that's that's where i'm at so thank you okay i'm going to try to go really quick um so ms garcia that was a very good report that she did i i did walk the high school with dr limeberry thank

you for spending time with me and i have to say the high school looks amazing the interior i didn't get a chance to see it but the flooring the paint it's looking wonderful we walked some classrooms it was nice to see the new ela curriculum being implemented and some of the students that speak spanish fluently we're learning english and actually some students from other parts of the world were in the class learning english so that was really cool to see them at work doing that um i got to see the prospector 500 club in action that was pretty awesome and um also i attended the east valley board consortium and there were some legislative updates that they that will be put in effect at the end of this month some of them are like just

for instance there'll be a moment of silence in every school at the beginning of school start so for two minutes there's more parental rights that are being implemented and so i think we'll be sending that information out to staff and parents i also attended the asba law conference thursday and friday some of the breakout sessions that i sat in on was a criminal law class which talked about the differences that the sros and what their roles are on campus and we will go over that i'm sure in a work session there was one that was called put me in coach which kind of went over addendums and contracts to help understand what can and cannot be paid to certified classified staff we i sat in on the superintendent evaluation which kind of gives the idea

of what you should do when you evaluate a superintendent how you determine performance pay and maybe periodically throughout the year how you touch base and kind of do a check in on your superintendent and how things are going and so and also i attended the friday night homecoming for the football team they're doing good this year 2-0 good job that's all i have okay superintendents report good evening i just want to um thank the superstition area cultural alliance they gave us a seven thousand dollar portable audio system that we can move around and use where n where we have needs so we appreciate that also want to thank mr hill and his team because there was a big storm that came through um sunday night took unfortunately took out a lot of tree branches and

different things um right a lot of different yeah i don't know um but they they got out there quick and and really cleaned things up so we appreciate that i want to thank dr limeberry and coach mckee for just all the hard work they gave to make sure homecoming was a success and a lot of different events and then i want to thank the staff at peralta trail because i was able to substitute teach last week in a second grade classroom and the kids were super helpful and the staff that was there was very welcoming so i appreciated that so thank you okay employee recognition good evening madam president members of the board and superintendent wallace um we're very excited to acknowledge our employee of the month for this month and that will be presented

not on the agenda if the item you are addressing is not on the agenda please do not expect the board to answer questions or discuss the issue with you brenda gifford good evening thank you for giving me a few minutes to speak governing board and members of the community i wish that there were more parents that were still here to be made aware of this i was at a meeting on thursday night and right after that meeting i got an email with a press release that was about an injunction that was filed against the arizona education head kathy hoffman i firmly believe that school should be a place where children are taught how to think not what to think i think that we need to affirm children and build their confidence in every opportunity but

i think that we need to be very careful in how we go about that i was very troubled and i'll just read this to you verbatim because of time limitations last week an injunction was filed against the arizona superintendent of public instruction kathy hoffman due to an online chat space on the arizona department of education website that violates ars 1-602 arizona parental bill of rights the chat room queer chat commonly referred to as q-chat is directed toward young children in the lgbtq plus community ages 13-19 however there is no verification process for users ages they encourage children to chat with unlicensed adults regarding hypersexual topics these topics include generic themes to lure kids in like pokemon marvel comics spiderman to attract visitors to the site in addition to exploit these chat rooms such as sex

and relationships let's talk about substance abuse sex education salliento del closet let's go lesbians and trans non-binary youth back to school basics all things names pronouns bathrooms and gender gear to join the child must answer personal questions about their sexual orientation and gender identity while inputting information as to their date of birth email cell numbers etc the chat also features quick escape button that enables children to exit the chat room effortlessly and allows them to hide their online activities from parents or guardians hoffman is working to actively suppress parental consent and oversight of their children's lives q chap is a sexual predator's dream kathy hoffman is using your tax dollars to push it into your child's classroom in homes one of the organizations behind cue chat is planned parenthood which has become more aggressive in

offering gender transition services to minors including dispensing hormones to trans identifying teens without verifying medical records or parental consent under democrat katie hoffman our schools focus on indoctrination and walkism more than they do on educating our children we call on all parents educators and citizens to insist that hoffman renew court chat from the taxpayer-supported official website of the arizona department of education i'm shocked i'm shocked that this was going on back in may and we were many of us were so wrapped up in the primary election work that we weren't aware of it it was made nationally um aware on some conservative sites back in the middle of i think that you guys should know about it and you should be protecting our kids it represents you thank you roberto rivelas the beauty of the

united states constitution is that it protects everybody's right to express themselves and to protect their freedoms under the united states constitution we're living in a very unusual time where rights are being taken away in a manner that i as a 90 year old have never seen in other world and i'm one whose rights were violated growing up in a totally segregated environment but it takes great people to express their sexuality and their individualism and so i'm sad to hear that there are people in our community who do not protect our constitutional rights but i'm here actually to speak about another topic very briefly we're about to have an opportunity to cast our most for office in public service and i think as a learning on institution this board ought to consider sponsoring a candidate's forum

so that all candidates who are running for the school board there are several running for two vacancies have an opportunity to express themselves on how they will protect the rights of students under the united states constitution i hope you seriously consider sponsoring that as a learning institute so we can have informed voters thank you thank you raymond coming cunningham good evening to you all i'm going to speak to items 5.9 possible action on the cactus canyon junior high school weather innovation project first of all when i read the agreement that associates was associated with this item it only addresses the weatherization of deborah vista elementary school so why is the agenda unfortunately there is a misprint and it's for desert vista it's not for for cactus canyon so we apologize about that it's okay i'm

sorry it's not the only point of contributing as an engineer and businessman i've been unfortunately reading contracts for more than 50 years not a lawyer but i try to simplify it by going to the heart of every agreement which is who is the fund what is the term what is the scope or responsibilities of each party or scope of work sometimes called and uh if you can't figure out what that is you have a very confused contract so we know who the parties are in this case and we know that the term is one year but there's no scope of work it refers obliquely to the weatherization project but it's not a document that's incorporated into this contract so while you can deal with such items as unforeseen conditions unforeseen conditions to what it's on

the phone now you can say well there's another there's a construction contract but this agreement is placing obligations on you to supervise a contract that's not directly referred to this is not this is not good in addition it's very very specific if i can move my screen up just a little bit it's very explicit that any change in the scope work must be implemented by a changeover how can you figure out if there's been a change if you don't even know what the scope of work is with any clearing it can be incorporated by reference it can be incorporated as an exhibit there's lots of ways to make this agreement less confusing and more sensible but as someone who deals with projects like weatherization and so forth i would be very confused if i was

wondering so i think there's a lot of work that should be done on this contract going on if by chance the scope of work involves an extension beyond the minimum standards implied in various laws and regulation then the district is on the hook for taking care of them in the future and again it's really undefined so i think i would recommend that you take some time and effort to try to untangle this the simple confusion in the name is no big deal i would have expected it to be on the agenda rather than the agreement thank you okay the consent agenda would suddenly like to make a motion on the consent agenda madam president i'm motioned to adopt the consent agenda as presented a second candy seconds miss garcia yes mr consio yes mr botters

yes ms kimball yes i am a yes that motion passes five to zero information and discussion items 4.1 multi-tiered systems of support mtss presentation mrs smith good evening madam president members of the board superintendent wallace and community members um what i would like to discuss sustainable system in place strong sustainable system in place and so for that to happen it takes up to two years for that sustainable implementation so what i'm presenting to you this year one and in august this is the timeline and obviously we're taking a look at how are we building that foundational support and what will the problem mean what you're going to see on this timeline is there are four main components number one is building that foundation to strengthen the adult competencies and capacity three is integrate and implementation

of it and then four which is on the second page of the timeline is the actual continuous improvement because we want to make sure that we are going through the four strong implementation phases to have that sustainable system in parentheses you see it'll say indicator one indicator two all the way through indicator 10. what that represents is working with our district level and tss team as well as site principles we're using the mtss startup guide and it references 10 important indicators to make sure are put in place for that strong multi-tier system underneath you'll see little bullets and that's the main focus for that month that falls under the one of the four components of putting that strong system in place as well as what indicated was that model under so currently we're on september

and we have scheduled for myself and robin gonzalez who's our curriculum director to go to each of the elementary sites to present this through professional development and staff aides part of this timeline you'll see starting in january is having those conversations and looking at how are we going to evaluate how we're going to improve systems but also for year one it primarily focuses on the elementary student success teams that are looking at the interventions that are needed for success on the site for students for academics as well as addressing any resource that's impacting that student from accessing their education being the best version of themselves each and every day to get full learning experience in the classroom when you take a look at them we're going to be expanding it to the secondary level even

though verbal conversations are going on now i don't want you to think that we're just focusing on elementary and sully elementary i've had great conversations with mr mayor mr gloria as well as dr ryan berry talking to the counselors and the advisor at the high school our social worker team that we roll on this year so it's been a really great start of the school year bringing that focused team together and making sure we're addressing all the needs of our students academically so our next phase on that is actually after we build that capacity of our staff the full understanding that the adults are going to implement kids it's time for that integration implementation and that is where you'll see in this guide that we do the adjustment is a little off i'm not sure

why but please scroll down a little there are three things that we're focusing on when it comes to multi-tiered systems of support that is prevention for all students enrichment for all students and international students and so to create that the visual on what multi-tier systems of support is about on the visual of the umbrella it's not only about what we do on our school sites but it's how we are having that proactive approach to our behaviors on our school sites it's about that school of community collaboration and connection it's about people's secondary goals how do we build systems that help support all of our students no matter what they choose to do after high school it's about forming strong student success teams it's about making sure that we're working together as a team that family

engagement family is an important piece of our multi-tiered systems of support it's about the professional development and building the capacity of our educators of our school leaders on asia school sites as well as making sure that we're using our curriculum our instructional design that's been adopted by the board but also how do we use the data from our students that we collect academically to make sure that we're putting the right interventions in place um you'll see our district vision and mission but also what is our philosophy for the multi-tier system of support and that philosophy is about all students deserving a system of support that's inclusive and student-centered to meet your needs this guide contains tools resources and strategies to support teachers to focus on that whole learner for growth and achievement behaviorally and socially

one of the things i do want to stress is that this is a living document this isn't a finalized document it will be changing it will be evolving it will be growing over this first year of implementation and as we do make changes i'll be happy to bring it back and share what those changes also the table of contents in this guide what you'll find is not only a loss or returns to understand the multi-tiered system or support system but also what are the different levels of tiers there's tier one which are universal approaches for all students in the classrooms on our school campuses that proactive approach as well tier two is taking it down and if you'll scroll down that's the glossary which is right here so tier two is looking at some students

as far as what are we doing when we identify that a student is having some difficulties within their learning environment in the classroom and how do we put into place in that chart in that classroom targeted in the interventions and then tier three is what you focus on with a few students so when tier one and tier two intervention is on to being successful for that student then we look at more of an intensive individualized intervention to help that student be successful this will also explain the academic immediate tiers as far as what we look at when it comes to tier one tier two individualized interventions now with tier one and tier two those are within the classroom um the classroom teacher the interventionists are working hand in hand making sure things have been in

place in the classroom tier three is conducted by a qualified educator such as a recruiting specialist someone who's trained a social worker to provide that to your intervention for that student this goes into as far as the foundational understandings of effective mtss implementation as i shared earlier we need to make sure that we are doing it and doing it right we need to make sure we have a sustainable system so that way when the day comes when i decide to retire that the system is in place we're not reinventing depending on who's sitting in this chair and so one of the things we want to make sure is clear is that we use evidence-based instruction and interventions within our ntss models when it comes to those interventions that happen in the classroom or that to

agree also when we have the mtss teams come together the student success teams on the sites we want to make sure that we're using that data to based on decisions for that student and so this just goes through the importance of fidelity and preventing those interventions using the resources that have been adopted this will identify who's on our mtss teams at the district level as well as each of the elementary school sites as i shared with you we'll be expanding and evolving the site student success team meetings are held on a weekly basis and then quarterly myself and mr sher the weekly student success team is to look at when tier two interventions are not being successful with the adequate growth of this community by the students they will come up with an intervention plan

if that student is not making the successful gains as expected then you'll see in here the attachments on the mtss request board will come to me mr sherk and i will review that to make to sure further evaluation or stronger intervention this is the process for that has been communicated out to site principles as well as the interventionists as far as tier one who's involved so not only the what but the how and who's involved in it here too your initial sst meetings follow-up ssp meetings and again as i if the student again is not making um progress then that would come to me and mr shirt and we need to schedule that student for a full time including our lead social worker to sit down with the team the parent is involved all the

way through the communication with the parent is from tier two when the teacher identifies that there is a concern with the student that parent is now notified and involved in the process as well these are the attachments of the request forms that are used when a teacher has a concern submits it to the interventionist they supply the information that is needed for that student on strengths and concerns that is brought to the student success team and write the summary this is the summary that the interventionist will complete and at the bottom of the summary is the interventions that have been used at the tier two but then item six is the student intervention action plan and that's what the team puts into place to help support that teacher a person is identified to be that

go-to accountability person to provide this is the request that i talked about that is and also there's some resources that are provided an abc checklist is a resource that an interventionist or the teacher can use that identifies and what is the consequence that after the behavior um and then here are some suggestions for that tier one as far as equitable practices for engagement the learning and then there's some internet and this resources a list of the online internet resources such as ppis world intervention central gov lots of great resources i just have one question thank you for your work this is a lot but um from tier one where the teacher has concern um i know you mentioned on tier two that the parents are being notified but do is there some for tier one

is there any kind of interaction as a t like in the classroom itself okay okay one is using our adopted curriculum with fatality all right it's putting into place our pagan structures and strategies that we've our teachers have gone through the training and making sure that that's for all students okay okay tier two would be more of a targeted small group meaning i have possibly three students and i know specifically this is what they need that may be different than the corporate level research which got it thank you parents should be contacted throughout the process and just whether it's good or bad and you know happening at school there should be parent communication going on which it sounds like there is are not ntss having those positive connections and communication um that's what it's just

to say that kind of okay right how do we make sure that is any other questions ms smith does the parents have to sign off on this like literally like sign paperwork sign off on if let's say we have um so they're notified that they're getting the two through the intervention right so let's say we have our meeting and the team decides that we do believe there is cause for further evaluation that parent is brought in we cannot evaluate a student without the journey so the parent is brought in we share all well along the way the parent is on that journey right so when we do have that meeting that our school psychologists will lead that meeting as far as permission okay so they're involved in this from the beginning yeah before okay and

what are some of the things that the teachers would identify for this behavior academic so academics or or both it can be one the other or both okay i saw students who were struggling academically so the way we approach that the interventions we use are going to be different than whether the what's impeding them from making gains academically maybe sometimes it may be about the student is struggling with academics or behavior oftentimes we use the term is it a i can't or i won't right we need to identify things that student is feeling defeated maybe they're struggling and we didn't identify what that why is we need to get to the root in order to describe what is the correct approach and intervention for that student and communication with that parent is consistently ongoing i

know as a parent a grandmother i want to know if my child is struggling how can i help support not only my child but how can i support you as the teacher what thank you any other questions i don't have any questions i just want to say that specifically under the sst request form that kind of log that sees like it did this work with them did this not work with them i really love seeing the um kind of ideas to give the teacher to use for the student like reduce stimulation that's not something that people may think of needing as necessary but to neurodivergent students who have sensory issues if the lives are too bright they're not going to function with anything so i just i really like seeing all these suggestions here you

know whether um you know i know i'm a very visual person so if i have a teacher that stands and delivers auditory information i'm not going to respond to that so i um one more thing so will you be bringing this back like periodically to kind of check in and give us an idea of how things are going yes in place making um that our interventionism principles you know have input taking a look at it um to really understand how to use the process you know and how to fill those out that's important data collection but also it's a good reference point to use and so actually if i'm not mistaken within this last week we're starting to schedule looking at students who may have been discussed earlier on and has have gone through that

tier one in tier two you know taking a look are they ready to have their initial student success so i'll be happy to bring back um yeah i want to see like how it uh because it's new like how it's progressing how if it's working if it's not working you know things like that right and this is not a pipeline for spend testing right for further evaluation it's not a pipeline for that it's to thank you i do want to say too we've been doing this for years but mrs smith's pride has now had time to focus and put it all together so we know this works because of the work we've done for years doing it doing this themselves right kind of in the classroom we were well teachers or teachers have had the

support of the principals and the rti teams from years ago and it just evolved into mtss okay 4.2 2021 22 prep 301 discussion as well so i just wanted to update you i know there was supposed to be an action item tonight on prop 301 but we had advice from legal to take the school year 2021 to 2022 301 plan back to the 301 committee and have them vote on a revision for them for them to come back to you if they if there's at least 70 percent of them voting to revise that plan and then we would bring it back to you to have you vote on it as an action item to revisit funding going to teachers from for professional for performance pay right so i just wanted to update you and let

you know why it's not as an action item tonight so this will come on um we're hoping to get it on the october one it may have to go a little farther just because of fall break it'll it'll depend on how long we how quickly we can turn around the vote on each campus okay but we'll do our best to get it back to you in october okay 4.3 asba pinal county meeting on october 19th from 5 to 7 pm we we just mrs goff just needs uh if you're interested when do you need to know how about september 28th because we're going on fall break oh okay yeah and each district is on different breaks so just in case whoever's planning things for them where it's at homes okay so september 28th okay action

items 5.1 possible action on the 2022-2023 budget revision do you want to brief us on this miss terry do you want to just give a brief overview on the work that's been done with the board so we brought the budget revision at the last work study and basically we've just revised the budget to include the additional funding that we got with the new budget forms put everything in the mno fund we left the capital the same okay so nothing's been revised since the last one okay anybody like to have a motion on that president i'd like to probably have any i'd like to make a motion on the 2022-2023 budget revision second okay miss garcia yes mr conciou yes mr botters yes ms kimball yes and i am a yes that motion passes five to

zero 5.2 possible action on custodians and building managers addenda at two dollars per hour for hours worked for the 2022-2023 school year this was the funding that we received through essers that will allow us to add two additional hours for hours worked to custodians and building managers okay and this is what will hopefully improve attendance too it'll hopefully improve attendance and just help us with hiring also where we still have some gaps okay somebody like to make a motion on that and and honestly too to just help the people that are here working as hard as they are to fill in some of those gaps also president i'm motioned to approve the custodians and building manager's addenda at two dollars per hour for hours work for the 2022-2023 school year show you okay ms garcia

yes mr concious yes mr botters yes miss kimball yes and imas that motion passes five to zero 5.3 possible action on food service hourly agenda for the 2022-2023 school year based on attached spreadsheet so this is the same um kind of thing as 5.2 except that it come the funding comes from food services because they're self-funded and this was the conversation that you had with director warhaws about her um her tiered approach to that rather than the custodian and building managers at two dollars per hour all right any questions on that um i just don't like to see this the different levels of salad the the amount the two dollars and the 50 cents it's like the 50 cent position there we need more up isn't that true like we're lacking as far as employees

in that department so i just i don't feel comfortable with that so um i will make a motion on the food service hourly addendum to be all two dollars for the 2022 2023 school year based on not based on the spreadsheet so across the board two dollars so is this the conversation i'd like to have a little bit of discussion yeah i don't um is this the conversation that we had with miss karen in regards to not being able to sustain it okay that was if it was in the base of the pay this is the addendum but this was her suggestion right my recommendation would be if there's a change to this without her being present i think we'd have to we'd have to table it and then bring it back to you because

i don't want to vote on something if we don't have funding for it so let's let's table it and then we would bring it back to you i don't want to table it i listened to miss karen and she said she sat and told us in the audience that we financially could not afford this and with all due respect um that was what you were recommending so i'm fine making a motion they um ms warren said it wasn't sustainable in the base of the salary this is an addendum this is separate then what did we talk about the addendum i'm just trying to she was happy she wanted the addendum not she didn't want it in the base of the pay but she's suggesting this amount this is what she's suggesting that she can afford

at 50 cents per hour you're not going to end up getting hardly anybody to work apply and what are you going to do with everybody else if you've got no cafe staff no cafeteria staff so miss wallace can you elaborate um you know in regards to this addendum how you i mean there's obvious being discussion before it got here can you talk to the board about this her i think for her the the 30 000 that she's proposing per year would change so if it went to two dollars it probably wouldn't be as sustainable for as long as what she had hoped so you could do the two dollars and just not it go not have it go as long i don't know if she has other budget things that she can change that she

because her budget's separate it's not coming from the m o or the grant or somewhere that um i don't know how flexible she can be from where she's taking but this was conversation between you and her and this is what was created on something on this addendum that you guys felt that you could financially sustain i it was but i i would feel comfortable taking it back and then being able to come back to you and say for sure if you do two dollars across the board like we've done for building managers and custodians she can sustain it for this long or she can only sustain it through february or she can only sustain it this year but not next year and so i would feel more comfortable tabling it to bring back the correct

information and not make some assumptions based on discussion that we've had earlier so i think it would be fair to consider the two dollars so i will amend my motion to table it so that we can have miss juarez present at the meeting to have the conversation what were you saying does this postpone anything tabling it miss morris is here if you look at robert rules of orders you end up postponing it but since we don't uh i would recommend that we postpone any action on this until we get correct information find out from her as to what she can how long she can sustain it and any projection on that using two dollars an hour across the board okay we can bring that back to you yeah because that just seems more fair so

miss wallace is there a reason why this was presented to the board and i mean clearly there was discussion in regards to the extra pay like is there a reason why we were tabling this has there not been discussion with i think the focus last time when we discussed it in the work session was the base and so we got kind of hyper focused on the base and putting and not the amount of the addenda and i'm i'm assuming that as people look at it it you know with building managers and custodial there's that same kind of hierarchy of duties but everyone's getting two dollars so i'm assuming that as you look at this there's concern now that there's not that same equity across the board and but last time the focus was so much

about the base that i think that piece was missed and this is again out of her this is her she's self-funded okay yeah it's separate money from our budget so i recommend that we uh so mrs campbell i think we need a second right miss kimball already made the motion so somebody needs to second right okay what was your motion against the table oh there's a second okay miss garcia yes mr concious yes mr botters yes miss campbell yes and i am a yes that motion passes five to zero okay 5.4 possible action on cactus canyon junior high students out of state travel the catalina island marine institute and san juan capistrano california on october 20th through the 23rd 2022 is this their yearly trip yes okay exciting somebody like to make a motion on

that president i'd like to make a motion on cactus canyon junior high students how to travel to catalina island marine institute in san juan capistrano california on october 20th through the 23rd 2022. second miss garcia yes mr cancio yes mr botters yes miss kimball yes that motion passes five to zero can i make one suggestion about the trip i know there's always a lot of discussion about follow-up from the trip we are going to ask mr diegos to communicate with the leads of all trips and then they'll share pictures with him and then he'll do an update on social media so that we don't have to worry about catching up with people after trips or missing things he'll kind of keep an eye on things and different trips that happen and then the public will

be able to see that and it'll be pictures that have been taken from that trip and then he posts okay good 5.5 possible action on general education preschool program this is just an approval for the kickstart to kindergarten program that's running at the tlc and we started with the beginning of the school year it's about 16 students currently present in that classroom and their teacher is a certified teacher shannon young who with years of kindergarten experience so it's it really um kids are really learning a lot but having a lot of fun doing it so it's good to see so many students engaged and parents being very excited as they come through for tours to get their students enrolled in the program we really feel it's going to be benefit for those students when they

go into our kindergarten from mrs young who was a previous kindergarten teacher for us and bringing those experiences and expectations of what kindergarten students need to be successful when they get to kindergarten okay somebody like to make a motion i i just want to make a comment i think it's important to have this program my grandson is two and he knows his a's b's and so he's ready he's going to be ready for kindergarten when it's time the concern i have is that we've had a preschool before and the funding didn't do well so this is supposed to be self-funded correct our preschool is not tuition-based this one is not this is tuition-based but we have not had a tuition-based preschool okay the prior one that we closed we have um child care but not

a preschool okay so we had a program but it wasn't in the negative at one time i think we stopped doing that child care child care yeah so with this being a new program being self-funded we just i would just like to make sure that we don't end up where we're just in the negative we want to keep an idea on and i keep an eye on the budget for this and so when we do our budget book mr hazel if you could give a breakdown of the tlc and each category so that we can just keep an eye on that so i just want to remind you that at the tlc it's hard to break down by program because there's three programs running down there simultaneously kids at that age can't be left unattended

and the ratios are very specific so bobby may be hired to work in the special ed preschool but today he's going to be our infant teacher because chelsea called out sick so it's very hard to break it down specifically by program okay but we want to make sure that we're we are and i just want to bring to everybody's attention also that i feel that the preschool program and the child care program is one that benefit that we understand staying in the black and that's always our focus yep or cost neutral but the big focus is that we are catching kids early and getting them ready for kindergarten when they enter our schools so there's not the expense the gap the extra time extra people to get them caught up so there's that balancing act

that we are constantly right i am trying to agree with it it's a good program it's something that's needed to get these kids ready for kindergarten but i just think that we just also have to be financially responsible mm-hmm i have to um say when mrs conley and myself went to visit the tlc it's an amazing program and i think the goal again is to make sure that as students stay here and go into our school system and the work that um mrs young and her group is doing is amazing like the classrooms look amazing the kids are involved in their learning and i think that that is a priority as well to keep them in our school system to be able to have that per diem no i think that's great you'd like to

make a motion on that madam president i motioned to approve the general education preschool program second miss garcia yes mr consio yes mr butters yes kimbo yes that motion passes five to zero five point six possible action on after school activity stipends for 2022-2023 this is i can't get mine to open mr cantrell if you can this is just an it's an update to what we've brought you if you at the bottom we had um not been clear about elementary clubs and intramurals so after school at elementary those club teachers can earn 25 an hour per club not to exceed up to 600. right thank you because before it was different right and it was right right so only that bottom line was added just that bottom line because the clubs at um elementary change

they sometimes are quarterly sometimes they run for six weeks three weeks so it's harder to run them on the same pay scale as the ones at secondary because those usually run for us a season and these are different okay madam president on motion to approve the after school activity stipends second miss garcia yes mr consio yes mr potters yes ms kimball yes that motion passes five to zero 5.7 possible action on peralta trail elementary school teacher stipend for teachers for teaching specials during their prep hour and the amount of one thousand dollars per quarter so this is a stipend that would be given to the 11 peralta trail elementary schools classroom teachers they currently we currently don't have specials out there a special special area staff so we don't have pe we don't have music

we don't have library so miss principal clement and her staff have come up with a rotation that all kids are getting activities at the end of the day but the teachers are doing those themselves so they're foregoing that prep period that they typically get at an elementary school for 30 minutes a day and so this agenda is a thousand dollars per quarter per classroom teacher there's 11 of those teachers so it would roughly be about 44 000 dollars and it's a savings um because typically there would have been two certified staff and one classified staff out there but with it was hard to maintain that because of the the campus has gotten smaller so it wasn't a full-time position for any of those and so we we're trying this this year but we want to

make sure we let the teachers know we appreciate the time that they're giving up right yeah i know it's a lot of work yeah so i'm happy to that we can give this to them and i would just ask that we stay in communication with that site and if it gets to be too much we start thinking about other options absolutely and that's why we went quarter by quarter so that we can um make sure with principal clement that the climate is still okay and things are working okay that was my concern is if they're taking away their prep hour you know how are they 30 minutes just 30 minutes at elementary i know it's tough on teachers to be able to they've been troopers but also you know being that peralta so far out

it's hard to have teachers travel there for these specials absolutely so and we do have um just a reminder we do take our pe teachers from four peaks and desert vista and our music teachers from four peaks and desert vista and they go out on wednesdays so there's some extended time for collaboration with the teachers okay but it's still the other four days of the week that's been tough yeah and like i said if you had to pay for additional absolutely it would cost us more money right somebody like to make a motion madam president i'm move that we approve the recommendation for the addendum paid to the classroom teacher at the rate of a thousand dollars per quarter okay a second president i'd like to second do we not need to add that there's

eleven oh and for all that for eleven teachers eleven teachers eleven eleven teachers well it's okay okay miss garcia yes mr concious yes mr botters yes miss kimball yes and i am a yes that motion passes five to zero five point eight possible action on one additional general sick day on employees with second covet booster vaccine this is an opportunity for staff members to earn an additional sick day in their bank if they get boostered for covid the reason behind it is that we continue to have a lot of absences because of it and so with them taking time to make the choice nobody's being encouraged or forced to do it but if if staff members make the choice to take some time to do that it it benefits us because people seem to stay

healthier with that and not be absent so this helps us okay we aren't mandating absolutely not no we're just booster then no it's just an appreciation for them doing that i can't wait to be over the coped stuff all of us feel the same no more about us somebody like to make a motion madam president i moved to approve one additional general sick day for employees with a second cocoa booster vaccine a second i have a question but oh sorry that's okay i'll i'll second it but i do have a question go ahead um so just in regard just so i'm clear so in regards to the sick day um this is only for staff that chooses to get the cold vision absolutely we don't and we don't share that they send that information to

the hr department to one person who keeps that and adds it in working with payroll so it's not shared out i can't tell you who is and who isn't it's absolutely personal choice so then we're going to be paying them for an additional sick day we are yeah we talked about this in the last work session any other questions miss garcia yes mr conciou no mr botters yes ms kimball yes and ima yes that motion passes four to one can i just add two that the boards voted on this in previous years so we're just extending it because of still having people out with it yeah i just wanted a clarification yeah thank you hopefully this is the last year hopefully yes sure okay 5.9 possible action on desert vista school weatherization project the project

was awarded to jbs contracting in the amount of 849 350 dollars and 62 cents to be paid by the school facilities board exciting okay now the school facilities oversight board is the one that ends up drawing up all the contract paperwork yes they would have all the details correct and do we or do we not get the details or a copy of the of the detailed contract i believe that this is i will speak and then mr hill will correct me if i make any errors this is the general contract to get things moving as the contractors come in and those that are providing the work come in there's there are more clearly laid out of what each of the those contractors will do under that sfb contract this is the contract showing that sfb

has awarded us the funding for that project to begin and then the next steps is are the contractors coming out to bid that project and the work that they they do right but then the details of come from those contractors comes from the contractors but it goes to the school facilities no it comes it comes to us i'm sure sfb has their their copies but we also have we also get a copy they work the contractors that have been working with us are here almost weekly doing check-ins with mr hill as they're working through projects so can you explain in regards to having to do an addendum if there's work in regards to the public speak out like what the process is if so when we did the painting and the weatherization at the high

school one of when sfb awards the projects they don't award on certain things for example there's pony walls throughout the campus of the high school that don't touch a building they're not part of buildings the way the sfb looks at it so when they're doing the painting the contractor brings that piece back to mr hill who then brings it to um director terry and myself to discuss do we have money in our budget to do what it's going to cost to pay ourselves for those pony walls to be painted or do we want to forego that piece of the project and not have that done most of the change order that i saw that came through on that project the change orders that i remember were for things like that there wasn't changes being made

to the initial project it was that that outside fencing the metal fencing is not part of what sfb will pay for so they would have left it the old kind of weathered color we were given the option when they were here painting to pay additionally to have that match and look more like a completed project so each of those projects that comes to us go from the contractor doing the work to mr hill then mr hill informs talks to director terry about the funding then they both come to me we talk about it and then i bring it back to all of you to let you know if where we feel we are with that and if we can afford it not afford it and then we bring it to you to to um discuss

for additional stuff for additional when it's additional changes or work orders and so again i don't recall but mr hill may say different that there were that it was change orders of things that were not these were outside of the par the project not inclusive to what the project included it depends it depends on each building how they connect and what part of the bigger picture they play okay so so we don't do we i don't believe we had work order changes that weren't those kind of projects [Music] so with that one the materials increased and remember sfb pays a portion we have to pay our portion so because the materials increased in the time of when the project was started from what it was bid sfb paid the difference but then we still had

to pay our portion of it but it wasn't it it wasn't an unexpected you know there's i'm i'm trying to think like there need to be a new wall built before they could move forward and it wasn't seen as we did the initial project okay there weren't a lot of surprises we'll say that now this weatherization includes that included the replacement of a lot of doors over there and the ceiling the like seals not the ceiling but the ceilings around the windows the doors weather stripping weatherizing everything okay and then like um you know before they paint if they had to fix the walls the exterior walls or things like that before yeah if some if there was things chipping or that kind of stuff they go through all of that that's all part of

that weatherization what color are you going to choose yes oh what coloring are we going to choose we're going to run with the same scheme through all our campuses so cactus will be similar to the high school and then each elementary school will have two of the main colors that runs their scheme so desert vista's up first so and we don't don't cost the district anything for this one nope so this is all schools facilities okay so this is all oh okay yeah i was yeah we don't we don't pay anything for desert vista deservist is all uh paid by the state then okay right okay somebody like to make a motion madam president i motioned to approve the desert vista elementary school weatherization project to be in the amount of eight hundred forty nine

thousand three hundred fifty dollars and sixty two cents to be paid for by the school facilities oversight board and jbs contracting yeah okay miss garcia yes mr concious yes mr botters yes ms okay 5.10 motion to enter into executive session ars 3-431.03 to discuss the lease of district property known as thunder mountain middle school property somebody like to make a motion madam president move that we uh madam president enter into executives can we do the rostc before we go into executives 12. we can we can do it do that on five two one wow you want to do it on 5 12. i thought that's after that's where you put it that's what we yeah i was going to do it now can we do it now mrs gough yeah yeah okay yeah yeah okay

should it be 5 10 because we're not going in an executive session all right yeah we'll bump those two down yeah because you're doing it before that's what i mean so yeah so it'll basically be five times so national junior reserves officer training corps rotc students out of state field trip to fiddler's co san diego california october 10th and the 14th looking to approve that trip right right so it's an annual trip that they go on every year yeah the concern was that it's now september what's today the 18th 13th and this is for an out of state trip in october but i just want the board to know that is my um i had them bring it because when i bumped into commander lock there's some discussion right now about gas mileage trip costs

across the district especially at secondary because athletics travels band travels njrot's travels njrt had used up most of their funding and they were not going to san diego but we had just currently been funding the bus for the football team to go to their lee williams game and the price is very similar to what njrot was requesting so i spoke to commander locke on thursday night he got the paperwork ready to go and turned it into mrs goff by friday so it could go on this agenda so that was not his error it was me um letting him know that i was gonna i was gonna pay for that if you if it's approved by the board and so i just want that to be clear because there are stipulations on when out-of-state travel should

come in so he was just pulling that trip all together and the kids were not going to travel and i didn't want that to happen well i think it's great that the kids do get to go and we have found ways as you stated for the football team to travel um which is cheaper than using our buses and so i think it's great as a superintendent that you put that across the board and suggested that and so i am all for it when somebody like to make a motion so just to be clear the funding source that is on here 525 and 530. it's pr it's more it's he has funding for lodging food the activities right we're paying for the busing okay or emino not weird right we are emino but you're playing get

your checkbook out okay he's taking 40 cadets so they're going to be taking one of the new buses then correct well we after the work i've done with the football team i'm going to do some work so we're going to see the best way we can go so i once i know if the trip has been approved then i'm going to work with our new purchaser to see if he can work me some magic like he did with the football team and i'll just leave it at that for right now and then let you know what kind of bus they're traveling in once we make the plans okay well this is a good madam president i move that we have approved the trip for the njrotc to uh what is it fiddler's cove i believe

yes and actually it's uh other destinations as well include san diego because they're going to the recruit depot and observe a graduation there and also go to tour the uss midway and also they're going to be going to camp pendleton as well and it's to curb on between october 10th and 14th okay something like the second second miss garcia yes mr concious yes mr potter yes miss kimball yes that motion passes five to zero now back to executive session yep i think we already had a sec or we had a motion made we have to should we do it start over we're going to start over one thing i did want to add would you let the 10 commander luck that upon completion of the trip remember jj's going to do all that updating through

social media now okay yep all right good okay motion enter into executive session madam president i move that we adjourn as you were that we go into executive session to discuss the uh what was it to discuss the lease of uh thunder mountain middle school property as per ars 38-431.03.8.7 [Music] hey miss garcia yes mr concious yes mr potters yes ms kimball yes and i am a yes executive session as soon as you feel in the house or as soon as courtesy madam president i move that we adjourn from executive session okay second second miss garcia yes mr yes mr boggers yes miss kimball yes i'm a yes we are adjourned from executive session closing items requests for future agenda items you had something right your delegate thing oh yeah if we could just get

um on either a work session or a retreat so i can just talk about what i did at the delegates thursday is that retreat material or does it have to go on the work session the delegate update anything else uh yes i was thinking that we should have discussion on a timeline projection for reopening smez and also taking a look at possible school site for the area south where apache junction has been annexing i know that dr horton and brookfield both had mentioned that they had potential sites which ties into something else we have not had a uh presentation from them here at the school board and i thought we brought that on up here a couple of months ago about getting a presentation from them can i answer him yeah i thought we decided
